Ye Olde Adventure Worlde session 57
Summary
Laris meets with Rab Kisri Abratu of the Green Steel Legion and denies him passage beyond the pass. Eyllia and the Houses of Elemental Order engage the Quom but do not find what they expect. Induriel reports to Saḫḫiru regarding his dream, and they attempt to strategize. Abratu returns to the pass with a merchant train, but Laris allows only a single emissary with wares to pass through, escorted. Korivan communes with the local spirits, the Mountain and the Lightning, who are in constant combat. They tell him he should seek Orcish allies, though the Lightning grants him its power in advance of the coming battle, while the Mountain bides its time until he has fulfilled his assigned quest.

The Greel Steel Legion are denied entry beyond the pass
<YOAW_Narrator> A day or so after Laris's induction into the Hrieffen, scouts will report an approaching column of imperial cavalry.
* Laris will get people to prepare for incoming troops, but hold until we see what they're doing.
<YOAW_Narrator> Signals passed from lookouts higher on the cliffs indicate it's roughly a century or horsemen, following the path to your current fortifications.
* Laris will have the archers in ready position then
<YOAW_Narrator> The column approaches, flying an Imperial Turathi banner, with the banners of the Green Steel Legion and House Allatu flying beneath.
* NPC1 is now known as Captain
* Captain is at the head of the column. He holds up a fist to halt them before the gates of the newly-made wall.
<Captain> I am Rab Kisri Abratu of the Green Steel Legion. Who commands here?
<Laris> I do. Laris Valerius Corvis, Lugal and Legatus of Nesu Abamatu.
<Captain> (in Thantopolitan elven) Salwe, Legatus. We seek passage through the gate here.
<Laris> What is your intention if you pass through?
<Captain> Scouting. We're conducting operations against the orcish tribes in these mountains. I'd imagine you've had trouble with them as well.
<Laris> Interestingly, we have not.
<Laris> We offer our protection to those on this side of the pass. As such, I cannot grant your request.
<Captain> You're offering protection to the orcs?
<Laris> Correct.
<Captain> I wasn't aware Nesu Abamatu claimed dominion this far south.
<Laris> Then I'm sure you'll be pleased to update your information.
* Captain nods.
<Captain> That we will.
<Captain> Does your protection also extend to responsibility for the actions of your orcish subjects?
<Laris> We do not claim lordship over them, but offer them shelter if they wish to accept. Their previous actions are not our concern - only what they do once they have sought out our assistance.
<Captain> So they haven't accepted shelter thus far?
<Laris> Some have. Others have not yet had the opportunity.
<Captain> Do you plan to curtail their actions beyond these mountains?
<Laris> We do not plan to venture beyond this range at present. You are welcome to curtail whatever actions you feel need curtailing on your side.
* Captain nods slowly, eyeing Laris.
* Captain orders his troops to come about and return the way they came.
<Laris> Salve, Rab Kisri Abratu, I trust we'll meet again.
* NPC2 is now known as Rufus_Metillius
<Rufus_Metillius> So now they go back and we all get to go home, right?
<Laris> If only...
* NPC3 is now known as Varinia
<Varinia> We'll keep an eye out.
* Laris nods
* Laris is still probably somewhat recovering from the Hrieffen ceremony and appreciates the help ;)
The expedition against the Quom does not meet expectations
<YOAW_Narrator> True to Eyricia's word, the fleet sails the next morning to deal with the Quom threat.
<YOAW_Narrator> The Wyrm's Suspire leads the flotilla, but Eyllia and the Drake are meant to sail ahead as forward scouts, having received a heading in the previous evening's meeting of the captains.
* Eyllia is on deck, monitoring the ships progress, and her crew's readiness for the upcomming battle
* Captain is now known as Lysa
<Lysa> Good to get another shot at these bastards.
* Eyllia nods
<Eyllia> The archers need to watch for thier casters... make sure they know
* Lysa nods.
<Lysa> They'll be ready.
<Lysa> Don't want to get hit with that stuff again.
* Eyllia shakes her head no
<YOAW_Narrator> Keeping in sight of the fleet, the Drake is still the first to sight the quom ships, anchored off one of the islands in a defensive screen. On the island itself, their fortification is already well underway.
<Lysa> That's not good...
<Eyllia> This was never going to be easy
* Lysa nods.
<Lysa> Yeah.
<Lysa> Well, nothing for it, I guess.
<Lysa> Just have to do the damn thing.
<Eyllia> Just means more work after we get rid of the ships
<Lysa> Are we going to be a part of that, you think?
<Eyllia> Maybe they will just up and surrender once thier fleet is gone
* Eyllia shrugs
<Eyllia> I don't undertand these Quom
<Lysa> What do you mean?
<Lysa> I mean, they do seem...strange.
<Eyllia> Just they way the prisoners acted... bah, lets not dwell, we have pressing concerns
* Lysa nods.
<Lysa> I'll go talk to the archers.
* Eyllia gives the orders to start the harassing action
<YOAW_Narrator> The rest of the fleet moves to surround the quom ships as the Drake moves in. The Suspire begins her approach, though it will take some time to get into position.
<YOAW_Narrator> (Roll me a Command test and an Awareness test, please)
<Eyllia> !roll 4d6
<Eyllia> (that shold have worked?)
<YOAW_Narrator> (Huh. Maybe we have the wrong Heather)
<Eyllia> (can we get the right Heather!)
<YOAW_Narrator> (Terry, you can just use the google dice roller and tell me what you got for now)
<Eyllia> (14 command)
<Eyllia> (22 awarness)
<YOAW_Narrator> The Drake's crew know their business, and the ship makes a smooth approach just into firing range.
* Remote is on (Ctcps,Events,Raw)
<YOAW_Narrator> The other ship's crew seem to have taken defensive positions behind the strange crenellations the quom ships boast, but a single figure on the upper deck holds aloft a large, shining crystal, waving it back and forth.
<Eyllia> Archers!
* Eyllia points
<YOAW_Narrator> The Drake's archers loose a volley. Several arrows find their mark, sending the figure bloody to the deck.
<YOAW_Narrator> A moment later, a second figure stands, waving the crystal desperately.
* Eyllia gets ready to lead the boarding action and trusts the crew to do what needs to be done
<YOAW_Narrator> The quom duck for cover, and there is no answering volley of fire from their ship. The Suspire moves to engage one of the quom ships, but it looks as if the quom are trying to come about in an attempt to break through the line.
* Eyllia points the break and orders a cut off course
<YOAW_Narrator> The quom ships are certainly slower than the Drake, and can easily close with the first of them.
<YOAW_Narrator> The quom prepare to resist boarders, though these certainly look less well-equipped than those previously encountered.
<Eyllia> Time to drive these invaders from our seas!
* Eyllia rouses her crew
<YOAW_Narrator> That elicits cheers from the crew.
* Eyllia leads her crew into battle
<YOAW_Narrator> The Drake meets the other ship with a booming crash, knocking several of the defenders off their feet. The Drake's boarders make their way over and the melee begins.
<YOAW_Narrator> (Roll a Fighting test and an Awareness test, please)
<Eyllia> !roll 10d6
* Korivan rolls for Eyllia: [ 10d6 ] getting [ 6 1 4 2 6 6 3 2 6 6 ] for a total of [ 42 ].
<Eyllia> (so 33 fighting)
<Eyllia> !roll 4d6+6
* Korivan rolls for Eyllia: [ 4d6+6 ] getting [ 2 6 4 3 ] for a total of [ 15 ] which, after the modifier [ 6 ] totals [ 21 ].
<Eyllia> (21 awareness)
<Eyllia> (sorry 34 fighting)
<YOAW_Narrator> Eyllia fights at the forefront of her crew, cutting down quom as they fall back to the upper deck.
<YOAW_Narrator> Caught up in the moment, it takes some time before she realizes many of them beyond the front line are unarmored, unlike the one's encountered previously, and mostly wielding harpoons and other ship-born implements.
* Eyllia will call out in primordial
<Eyllia> Drop your weapons and surrender and quarter will be given!
<YOAW_Narrator> They falter, but, after a moment, they begin throwing their weapons to the deck.
<Eyllia> Sieze the helm, find who is in charge!
* Eyllia looks at the other ships... are they similarly equiped
<YOAW_Narrator> From what she can see, yes.
* Eyllia curses under her breath
* Eyllia finds Lysa....
<Lysa> What's going on?
<Lysa> This was too easy.
<Eyllia> Get our flag raised on this ship and try and signal the Suspire.
<Eyllia> These arent the same forces we encountered before
* Lysa nods.
<Lysa> Aye, captain.
<YOAW_Narrator> The crew will bring to Eyllia a robed older quom, a large crystal hanging from her necklace.
* Rufus_Metillius is now known as Quom
<Eyllia> who are you? You are Quom are you not? Where are your soldiers?
* Quom looks over the deck, where several armored quom lay dead.
<Quom> We are Quom, yes. And you see where our soldiers are.
<Eyllia> You've come before in ships full of fighting men, not a small company of defenders.
* Quom sighs wearily.
<Quom> Others of our kind have come. We are new to your world.
<Eyllia> Not here to find pieces of your god?
<Eyllia> steal our allies
<Quom> We *are
* here to recover fragments of Lakal, but we do not take captives, nor slaughter innocents.
<Quom> Others of our people are...hasty in the eternal endeavor.
<Eyllia> And thier hasty actions have brought this reckoning down on your ships and people.
<Eyllia> If you wish for any of them to survive, signal the rest of your ships to surrender as well
<Quom> I will try.
* Quom will move to the top deck and begin signalling.
* Eyllia goes to Lysa
<Eyllia> Leave a team to secure this ship, I need to get to the my mother
* Lysa nods.
* Eyllia will head to the Drake
* Lysa will order a group of marines to secure the quom ship.
<YOAW_Narrator> (Taking the Drake over to the Suspire?)
<Eyllia> (yes)
<YOAW_Narrator> The Suspire will have halted its action for the moment.
* Varinia is now known as Eyricia
* Eyricia will be waiting on deck.
* Eyllia swings on board
<Eyricia> Captain, what's going on?
<Eyllia> These Quom are not the fanatics we encountered before.
* Eyricia frowns.
<Eyricia> They did seem less prepared.
<Eyricia> You spoke to them?
<Eyllia> I captured one of the ships and thier captain and if they have any sense they are signalling the rest of thier ships to surrender
<Eyllia> before we leave them totally broken
* Eyllia looks out in hopes that the remaining Quom are dropping sail
<YOAW_Narrator> (They are.)
* Eyricia nods.
<Eyricia> We'll keep the rest of the fleet in formation for now as a precaution, but I will need to speak with these quom.
* Eyllia nods
<Eyllia> I'll take the Drake and round up some of the captains
* Eyricia nods.
<Eyricia> So ordered.
* Eyllia nods and heads out
* Induriel goes to find Sahhiru and May after his dreamland encounter
* Sahhiru can be found in his quarters, going over accounts for the city and troops.
<Induriel> Sahirru.
* Induriel 's demeanour makes it clear this is a solemn visit, not a social one.
<Induriel> I have news. I have once again been in attendance upon Lady Morelos.
<Induriel> And she was not alone.
* Sahhiru frowns.
<Sahhiru> Induriel, come in. Please, sit.
<Sahhiru> This sounds serious.
* Induriel enters and sits.
<Sahhiru> Though I suppose it ever is with Lady Morelos.
<Induriel> I'm afraid so. She was not acting on her own behalf, though... or at least, not exclusively.
<Sahhiru> How so?
<Induriel> She arranged this meeting in the Dreamlands so I could speak with Lord Damasuhu.
<Induriel> He communicated to me his, ah, *disquiet
* over Mamitu's hesitation to cleave immediately to his Emperor's cause.
<Induriel> He asked about Aethrennar's position on the matter.
* Sahhiru frowns and nods.
<Sahhiru> And your answer?
<Induriel> Not whether we recognize his Emperor - what our commitment is to Nesu Abamatu, and specifically to its current ruler.
<Induriel> I told him that we had concluded an alliance. He asked for clarification as to whether it was between the states, or the rulers.
<Induriel> I had to say it was the states, though there is regard between the rulers as well.
<Induriel> I then tried to calm him down, urge him not to jump to any rash conclusions about what Mamitu's hesitations mean.
<Sahhiru> How did he take that?
<Induriel> He pointed out, quite rightly I'm afraid, that preparations for a defense have already begun.
* Sahhiru nods.
<Induriel> He did say that Emperor Dananu would surely welcome Mamitu with welcome arms should she recognize his authority, and asked me to counsel her thus
* Sahhiru smirks.
<Sahhiru> And do you so counsel?
<Induriel> I promised to convey his words.
<Induriel> If you're asking for my own opinion...
<Induriel> Well. I warned him that Mamitu would make up her own mind, whatever I might or might not say.
<Sahhiru> That's not precisely an answer.
<Induriel> Oh, of course I think it's unreasonable for him to come and assume you'll throw your support behind him simply on his say-so!
* Induriel snaps.
<Induriel> Completely unreasonable.
<Induriel> However... he seems impatient. I don't think you'll be able to put him off very easily.
<Sahhiru> Do you think Alcarinel will think the same?
<Induriel> I shall certainly advise her thus! I do not think Aethrennar is in any hurry to throw support behind a new Empire.
<Induriel> He did... intimate that a match between her and the new Emperor could be something to explore. :/
* Sahhiru smirks again.
<Sahhiru> That's clever of him.
<Induriel> I must of course pass on that... not suggestion, it was more of a hint.
* Sahhiru nods.
<Sahhiru> It's not an inconsiderable notion, really.
<Sahhiru> From an abstract point of view.
<Sahhiru> Alcarinel could do worse.
<Induriel> Is he powerful enough for it to be an equal match, at this point|?
<Sahhiru> Not at all, I would imagine, but it gives her a claim as the successor to Ratha.
<Sahhiru> No longer Queen, but Empress.
<Sahhiru> As I said, clever on their part.
<Induriel> Huh. Assuming that is Her Majesty's ambition.
* Sahhiru smiles.
<Sahhiru> It is every ruler's ambition, Induriel.
<Sahhiru> Else they would not rule.
<Induriel> Actually, I was wondering about that... *is
* Dananu the rightful heir?
<Induriel> There is still an actual *dragon*, after all.
<Sahhiru> No.
* Sahhiru chuckles.
<Sahhiru> There was no provision for passing the throne.
<Induriel> Exactly.
<Sahhiru> Ratha was immortal. Still is, I suppose, wherever Lord Asmodeus put her.
<Sahhiru> But House Allatu was the most powerful.
<Sahhiru> Leaders of the priesthood, held in high regard by Ratha.
<Sahhiru> If any have a claim, it would be they.
<Induriel> But there is no *blood
* claim, is there?
<Sahhiru> There were rumors...
<Sahhiru> But Turath was not Arkhosia.
<Induriel> If one goes by bloodline, isn't Lord Gladius the foremost claimant, should he choose to stand on it?
* Sahhiru chuckles.
<Sahhiru> No. Gladius is no kin of Ratha's.
<Sahhiru> Should that be the measure, it's possible some lost scion of Arkhosia would be the closest blood relative of Ratha.
<Sahhiru> Arkos was her brother, after all.
<Induriel> But no such claimant is known to exist.
<Induriel> Lord Gladius *was
* an Arkhosian, though, back when that mattered...
<Induriel> Would he not have some idea, if it comes to that?
<Induriel> It just strikes me that it could be a good thing if the line of succession required a bit of disentangling before anyone could assert a definitive claim...
<Sahhiru> We could speak to him.
<Sahhiru> Arkhos had mortal children, but most of Arkhosia was wiped out.
<Sahhiru> And Turathi wouldn't accept them, in any case.
<Sahhiru> I would imagine Dananu's claim is more one of divine merit.
<Induriel> Most of is not all. And whether the Turathi would accept such a claimant or not, that person would surely take precedence as a target for Dananu, no?
<Sahhiru> That depends upon his aim.
<Induriel> It seems to me that you could do with something to make sure Nesu Abamatu moves down on his list of priorities.
* Induriel sighs
<Sahhiru> Right now, I think he wants the legitimacy of holding former Turathi territory.
<Sahhiru> But you're right.
* Induriel frowns
<Sahhiru> It would behoove us to see if it is possible to dissuade him.
<Sahhiru> Distract him with another prospect.
<Induriel> I'm afraid you're right too. And yes, I think you need to distract and delay them as much as possible.
* Induriel frowns
<Induriel> Sahhiru... I fear for Mamitu's personal safety.
<Induriel> Damasuhu assured me that they have no desire to raze Nesu Abamatu to the ground... only to ensure they have a compliant leadership there.
<Induriel> He did not say as much, but I fear assassination is not off the table.
* Sahhiru nods.
<Sahhiru> Damasuhu himself was a feared instrument of Ratha's, employed in just such a manner.
<Sahhiru> We will be vigilant.
<Induriel> Of course. But...
<Sahhiru> Hmm?
<Induriel> Well, I hate to bring it up, for a number of reasons. But it occurs to me... Mamitu is already being courted by a number of candidates for her hand in marriage.
<Induriel> What if she were to hint that she would gladly entertain similar courting from Dananu? Or from his own candidates?
<Sahhiru> I had considered it, but I don't believe he will be satisfied with courting.
<Induriel> I fear it could be dangerous... but it could also buy time, if they truly believe she may pick their candidate.
<Sahhiru> I doubt they would allow her time to choose. They know we're preparing to defend.
<Induriel> They do. :/
<Induriel> What else is there to be done, though? Surely Lord Damasuhu does not wish to waste his resources on attacking Nesu Abamatu if he can possibly avoid it... is there no way to provide him with altenatives?
<Induriel> (alternatives)
* Sahhiru sighs and shakes his head.
<Sahhiru> I do not know.
<Sahhiru> I will...look into it.
* Induriel nods
<Sahhiru> Perhaps if Queen Alcarinel were to consider his proposal, that might provide some disraction.
<Sahhiru> Though it could present us with larger problems.
* Induriel raises an eyebrow
<Sahhiru> I'm merely considering all options.
<Induriel> Well, I suppose that might delay any attack, if they were afraid to offend her by attacking an ally.
<Sahhiru> Perhaps.
<Sahhiru> But...it is a gamble.
<Sahhiru> I merely have to find the gambit with the greatest chance of success.
<Induriel> Do consult Gladius - I'm sure he has much wisdom to offer.
<Induriel> I'm afraid that Morelos has also taken an interest... naturally, I suppose, since what happens does affect her.
* Sahhiru nods.
<Sahhiru> We must endeavor to put forth that we will be the better alternative for her domain.
<Induriel> As long as you realize that she's also a factor in all this - an active one.
* Sahhiru nods.
<Induriel> She said that she was "acquainted" with Dananu. I can only speculate as to what that means. :/
<Sahhiru> I'm not likely to forget.
* Sahhiru smiles.
<Sahhiru> Yes, he has contacts among the Courts.
<Sahhiru> He's a servant of a powerful fae.
<Induriel> Which one?
<Induriel> (Unless we all already know that, in which case scratch the question. :P )
<Sahhiru> He is called the Huntsman, among other titles.
<Induriel> Ah... of course. As he left, Morelos asked Damasuhu to give the Huntsman her regards.
<Sahhiru> Damasuhu and his master share certain proclivities.
* Induriel sighs
* Induriel raises an eyebrow again
<Sahhiru> They are both hunters. Of any game.
<Induriel> Ah.
<Sahhiru> In any event, thank you for bringing this to me.
<Sahhiru> We shall have to discuss it with Mamitu.
<Induriel> You're welcome. I'm sorry it isn't good news. :/
* Eyllia (vess@CPEbc4dfb296af3-CMbc4dfb296af0.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com) Quit (Ping timeout: 378 seconds)
<Sahhiru> It's information, which is better than not having it.
<Induriel> I know, I know.
<Induriel> If Damasuhu arranges another dream meeting, what shall I tell him?
<Sahhiru> Hmm.
<Sahhiru> For now, tell him that Nesu Abamatu welcomes friendship with House Allatu.
<Sahhiru> Try to be nonspecific, of course.
<Induriel> I don't think he'll fall for that.
<Induriel> I'm sorry to be so blunt, but...
<Induriel> Well, I'm pretty sure he'll see that for the temporizing that it is. :/
<Sahhiru> What else would you tell him? That we mean to resist, and it's best he strike now?
<Sahhiru> Hmm.
<Sahhiru> Perhaps you can intimate that the Queen might favor House Allatu's rule of Nesu Abamatu. If we can feed them false information...
<Induriel> I'll just have to think of something, I suppose. :/
* Sahhiru nods.
<Sahhiru> As an aside...
<Induriel> Yes?
<Sahhiru> Should things go poorly, you have no tie to this city.
<Sahhiru> Or, rather...
<Sahhiru> I'm sorry, that sounds different than it was intended.
<Induriel> :/
<Sahhiru> What I mean is, I would hate to know you were harmed in our struggle.
<Induriel> Oh, Sahhiru...
* Induriel moves over to him and kisses him deeply
* Sahhiru kisses back.
* Induriel pulls back slightly when the kiss is done
<Induriel> I have no fears for myself. Don't you, either.
* Sahhiru smiles sadly.
<Sahhiru> I fear for us all, Induriel.
<Sahhiru> It is my nature.
* Induriel smiles, but doesn't say anything. He just leans in and hugs Sahhiru for a while.
No one believes you are a merchant train, Abratu
<YOAW_Narrator> A few days after the previous encounter, lookouts report several riders with a baggage train approaching, flying the same banners as before.
* Laris will go to see what fresh hell this is.
* Sahhiru is now known as Abratu
* Abratu approaches the gates.
<Abratu> Salve, Legatus Corvis.
<Laris> Greetings, Rab Kisri Abratu. What can I do for you today?
<Abratu> We come to trade for supplies in Nesu Abamatu.
<Laris> I see. What supplies do you bring for trade?
<Abratu> Furs. Spices from the south. Incense.
<Abratu> Various goods and suchlike.
<Laris> And what are you interested in trading for?
<Abratu> Food and cloth, mostly.
<Abratu> Basic necessities.
<Laris> I'm sure you would not mind if we inspect your trading caravan. For security, you understand.
* Abratu frowns, but nods.
* Laris will send out some soldiers to inspect it, then.
* lan_phone (uid135102@id-135102.charlton.irccloud.com) has joined #gnomeland
* Quom is now known as Rufus_Metillius
* Rufus_Metillius will come to Laris once the inspection is over.
<Rufus_Metillius> Well, they're carting what they say, though I still don't like it.
<Laris> No, neither do I.
<Rufus_Metillius> Can we turn them back without it becoming an incident?
<Laris> Probably not, but I also don't think we can let them through without it becoming an incident of another kind.
* Laris sighs and will go back to the battlements to talk to them again.
<Laris> I hope you understand that we have standing trade agreements with other parties. I can't allow someone to simply bypass those. I am but a military leader - I don't control our trade relationships.
* Abratu frowns.
<Abratu> What does that mean for us?
<Laris> If you wish to send one representative, with a sample of your wares, to Nesu Abamatu, I will ensure that they arrive safely and have an opportunity to present their case to Lady Mamitu.
* Abratu looks angry at that, but, after a moment, nods.
<Abratu> Can you spare a few guards? I can't imagine this area is completely pacified.
<Laris> I would have it no other way, of course. We wish to ensure your security.
* Abratu nods.
<Abratu> We'll make camp, then, and await word.
<Laris> Very well.
* Abratu will appoint a representative, with a single animal loaded with wares.
Korivan communes with the spirits, who council him to see more Orcish allies
* Korivan will take a party of booyagh out to set this up - somewhere they're not, like, gonna get ambushed, but somewhere that's a bit out of the way in the kind of places spirits like
<YOAW_Narrator> (What sort of place are you looking for?)
<Korivan> (good question! I imaging the kinds of places spirits might like would be like.... either a cave, if we can find one, or some very high place?)
<YOAW_Narrator> (*nod
* That's kind of my question. Those two have somewhat different resonances. ;) )
* Korivan will aim for some place high
<YOAW_Narrator> (Roll me an Endurance test and an Athletics test, please.)
* Korivan rolls [ 3d6 ] getting [ 3 6 1 ] for a total of [ 10 ]
* Korivan rolls [ 2d6 ] getting [ 1 3 ] for a total of [ 4 ]
<Korivan> (these are not my best skills :()
<Korivan> (I thoght I had better endurance at least :x)
<Korivan> (oh wait that was an old sheeT0
<Korivan> (I do have better endurance :V)
<YOAW_Narrator> (Heh)
* Korivan rolls [ 4d6 ] getting [ 3 1 6 4 ] for a total of [ 14 ]
<Korivan> (I assume 'resiliance' is not an applicable specialty... not ride for athletics)
<YOAW_Narrator> (Actually, Resilience would be in this case)
* Korivan rolls [ 1d6 ] getting [ 2 ]
<Korivan> (well 15 then :p)
<YOAW_Narrator> Korivan has a rough climb of it up the tallest of the nearby peaks, but he perseveres, tired but undaunted.
<YOAW_Narrator> There is an outcropping of rock near the top of the mountain with a commanding view of the valley and surrounding area.
<YOAW_Narrator> The wind is strong and biting, as though fighting his very presence.
<Korivan> (perfect)
<YOAW_Narrator> (How do you want to go about setting up the ritual? Usual drugs, fire, and blood? ;) )
* Korivan will have prepared some offereings, and also some other riual materials to bring him closer to thier world
<Korivan> (so, yes ;)
<YOAW_Narrator> (Roll me Will, please)
<Korivan> (rituals?)
* Korivan rolls [ 7d6 ] getting [ 6 1 3 1 5 3 5 ] for a total of [ 24 ]
<Korivan> (22 if so)
<YOAW_Narrator> (Yeah, rituals)
<YOAW_Narrator> Korivan and his picked booyagh assistants prepare the ritual fire, burning fragrant (and hallucinogenic) herbs and inhaling the smoke while petitioning the spirits to attend him.
<YOAW_Narrator> There is a distant rumble of thunder, and a tremor in the earth, though whether mundane or spiritual is beyond distinction.
<YOAW_Narrator> A flash of lighting practically in front of Korivan is followed by a deafening peal of thunder. Korivan looks up to see a being of ruinous black clouds, hurling bolts and scouring the face of a massive stone behemoth roaring its defiance.
<Korivan> Great and Angry spirits! YOur strenght and wrath are ...awesome @_@
* NPC1 is now known as Storm
<Korivan> We, the Hrieffen, seek your attention - your aid in a coming conflict of our own
* NPC2 is now known as Mountain
<YOAW_Narrator> They pause, and Korivan can feel the weight of their gaze upon him.
<Korivan> 9sec dog)
* Storm 's eyes are bright and furious, orbs of lightning almost too bright to look at.
* Mountain is stoic and impassive, its eyes fathomless pits in the earth into which things disappear forever.
<YOAW_Narrator> (For a second, I thought you were saying you needed 9 seconds for the dog, and that seemed both very short and very specific. ;) )
<Korivan> (back, sorry - hades peed on the floor because I didn't recognize his 'desperate to pee' sign, then I had to take him out, then clean it up, then take two more pairs of socks away form him)
<YOAW_Narrator> (No prob)

<Korivan> I am Gaath Hrieffen Eryvet Korivan!
<YOAW_Narrator> They do no speak, but their attention falls upon Korivan's will like an avalanche, like a hurricane gale.
<Korivan> @_@
<Korivan> I respect your great strength, and the strength of your battle
<Korivan> Soon another conflcit will come to your battleground
<Mountain> This is only right and proper. The mouse respects the tread of your horse.
<Storm> Good. Conflict makes us strong.
<Korivan> Yes!
<Korivan> We too seek to make ourself stronger
<Korivan> In this way @_@
<Mountain> Such is the way of all things.
<Storm> Why do you speak to us of such things, raindrop?
<Korivan> Strength seeks strenght - our enemy is marshalling its forces, as we and our allies marshall our own.
<Mountain> Who is your enemy?
<Korivan> They are... the death throes of Turath, seeking to be reborn @_@
* Storm crackles.
<Storm> Bah, servants of an usurper who would be lord.
<Storm> The world is well rid of them.
<Korivan> Yes
* lan_phone (uid135102@2001:67c:2f08:3::2:fbe) Quit (Quit: Connection closed for inactivity)
<Mountain> What do you want of us, little pebble?
<Korivan> To call upon your strength.... when the time comes @_@
<Storm> You wish us to fight your battles for you?
<Korivan> No. We are warriors.
<Korivan> But there are .... many ways to fight @_@
<Mountain> Yes...
* Korivan looks to the mountain "YOur strength you lend might to our warriors - to help them withstand, and deal, the mightiest of blows" - and to the Storm "And yours, to give their strikes speed and fury and precision" @_@
<Storm> You are a servant of the Astral as well. Why should we lend you our strength?
<Korivan> I am a servant of Bane! God of war and conflict and strenght!
<Korivan> It is he who taught us to test and improve ourselves in this way @_@
<Storm> He aspires to rule as well. How is he better than your enemy's master?
<Korivan> Bane aspires to rule through conquest! He makes no false claims, his strength will speak for itself, through his chosen people @_@
<Mountain> You are not *our
* people.
* Disconnected
* Attempting to rejoin channel #gnomeland

<YOAW_Narrator> (that was it)
<Korivan> No. And we do not seek to claim them, or your lands @_@ We came to fight... to protect what is ours, and to stand with our allies, who have granted sanctuary to th orcs who have been...persecuted by this would-be empire @_@
<Storm> The orcs. They know our strength, and respect it. What orcs do you ally with?
<Mountain> We and they have tested each other time and again.
<Korivan> We would welcome any ....to stand with us againt this foe @_@
<Storm> Seek the Stormeye, and I will aid you.
<Mountain> Delve into the domain of Ahgrath Stonesleeper, and I will aid you.
<Korivan> I will... do these things, great spirits @_@
<Korivan> Though the battle.... comes swiftly
<Mountain> Respect is earned in time.
<Storm> But there is merit in striking quickly, as the bolt.
<Storm> Do you so wish our strength?
<Korivan> Yes.
<Korivan> I do not forsake my deals with spirits.
