Romaz

Romaz is a city in Malfan and is the southern capital of the country, with around 17,000 inhabitants in total. Romaz is a city that emerged as a mixture of Omban, Umnakan, and other indigenous societies on the south fringes of the early Omban Empire, and then, in the third century during the conquest of Malfan by the Empire, took on greater strategic importance, and was the site of the Treaty of Romaz in 271 that confirmed Malfan's incorporation into the Empire. Located on the west shore of the Lake of Winds, Romaz is a major agricultural center for livestock and is the home of the Grand Chief who holds an annual conclave here. Its architecture is a mixture of classic Omban architecture and disparate elements drawn from many societies. Romaz is around 90% Hulti, far more than any other Omban city, and prizes its religious independence fiercely, and regards itself as the guardian of the rights of all southern Malfanders. The recent Third Council of Romaz in 757 sought to reaffirm the role of Malfan and Romaz in particular in protecting Hulti everywhere. The political authority of Romaz exists in tension with the northern (and far more Omban) capital of Zipus.
