House Callais
A historied Vanilorran house, associated with the beauty and elegance of classical Elven culture. House Callais is known as a patron of the arts, including especially those focused on capturing and recreating the beauty of nature. They maintain a number of publicly accessible 'refuges', or parks, throughout the city, the most famous of which is The Wilds. In this expanse of forest in the heart of the city, the natural world is allowed to run its own course with only subtle interference from House Callais druids. These maintain winding paths through the woods so that visitors can experience the grandeur of nature. The house also maintains several smaller cultivated public gardens spread throughout the city, including a sculpture garden containing art by some of the most famous Nerathi artists, and an arboreal palace designed around an ancient Tree of Life that some scholars believe dates to the original foundation of the settlement.
Although the house is traditionally based in Vanilorra, a small branch has been operating, and dominating elven affairs, in Highmark. While this expansion of the house's prestige is valued, elders are concerned at the personal power and influence wielded by the head of this branch, Jesseryn Callais.
