Summary

Session date: 2023-04-16

THE ATTACK: Day 3 of the Therma Alba visit

Lamont and Nik take a walk through the gardens, but Lamont becomes more and more agitated until finally they are attacked by demons! After some minor injuries, they make it to the chapel and meet up with Coifárë. They equip themselves with weapons and armour and retreat through a back entrance towards the main house. Along the way, Lamont manages to activate the magical effect of Nik's family's heirloom shield, ashing several demons and injuring the pursuing cultists.

Victorina flees from the pools at the start of the attack, and makes it back to the house.

Lavinia is attacked in room by a flying demon and manages to choke it to death with pastry cream before passing out (story)

Leonora and Magga hear a commotion on the ground, and arm themselves to go investigate. They check on Nenea, and make it outside and find Akan Nabari fighting valiantly but defensively after being ambushed at the pools. They help him defeat his foes. Magga takes him back to the hose for safety, and Leonora presses on to find Yadda. She finds her in a hedge maze and they kill a few demons together.

Rosalie saves Juno from a demon while the Magus is controlling her undead in defense of the estate. They retreat to the house to look for Sébastien

Sébastien and Chitara are canoodling in bed when they hear screaming. They decide to retreat to the wine cellar and start gathering other guests to come with them for protection. They run into Victorina, who comes along with them and others to try and secure the cellar. Agatha appears to help direct them and others. Juno and Rosalie also join the group. Chitara is able to cast an illusion to hide the door, while Agatha can direct guests how to bypass it. Juno also erects a ward for safety. Shortly afterwards, Lamont and Coifárë bring Nik to join the sheltering group. They leave with Juno to go and look for others who may need assistance out on the grounds.

Having been recalled early due to his 'father's illness, Gueiris looks back and sees smoke rising from the estate. Realizing he has been tricked, he rushes back, and encounters some demons and cultists along the way, defeating several (story). He heads to Lavinia's room, and manages to revive her by initiating his soul bond and lending her some of his strength. They talk, clearing up their previous misunderstanding and redeclaring their mutual love. After clearing out a few minor demons together, they decide to take shelter there.

AFTERMATH

Nik finds his parents and the family are all grateful for each others' safety. He tells them about his escape and about letting Lamont use the Amathalis and using his dragonmark. They tell him they are proud of him :3

Coifárë brings Lamont to be treated after suffering further injuries in the fighting, and leaves him in the care of Mikethelas. Lamont tries to return the shield but is turned down for the moment.

Roalie offers her assistance to Mikethelas as he is treating the wounded.

Leonora seeks out Akan after the fight to check up on him and discuss the attack.

Rosalie finds Lamont amongst the wounded while making her rounds and gives him some tea. He apologizes for breaking another date, but they renew their plans to meet up in Highmark.

Victorina and Chitara discuss Sébastien. Sébastien comes to check in on Chitara and give her some information, after which the two retreat to a secluded pool to calm their nerves with a bottle of nice wine.

Coifárë tells Nik Lamont is injured. They go check on him in the makeshift hospital, and they help him back to his room where they can talk more privately (and also seduce him).

Session

A Lovely Walk in the Garden

Lamont: will be waiting for Nik out in the garden, and smiles to see him

Nik: joins Lamont at the gardens for our planned walk. He wears a pale blue robe and has his hair down apart from a little braid at each of his temples that are tied back together.

Nik: Hello! Do you want to walk somewhere that will have more sun, or more shade?

Lamont: is wearing a green coat over an embroidered pale blue wasitcoat, but is carrying his sword today as well

Lamont: I have no strong preference, The morning sun isn't too overbearing - perhaps you could show me some of your favourite spots, in case I missed any in my previous ambling

Nik: I would be delighted to 🙂

Lamont: then, please.

Lamont: gestures for Nik to take the lead

Nik: will lead the way through the garden, to a glade of willow trees that circle a small pond.

Nik: This is where I used to go and read, if I didn't want someone to find me right away.

Lamont: oh, I think I passed by here a few days ago, and I meant to return and take a closer look, but then I couldn't find it again

Nik: It is not easily seen from the main house.

Lamont: I can understand how the seclusion might appeal...

Lamont: will go and look down into the pool

Nik: It's fed by a spring but it is not like the other hot springs in the area, it's colder and I understand has some sort of beneficial minerals.

Nik: says with a slight shrug of 'that's what my dad told me'

Lamont: Health benefits, I presume. It's a beautiful spot., with the willows

Nik: Yes, well, it tastes sort of like licking a copper piece or something, so it's probably extremely healthful.

Nik: says with a smile

Lamont: I admit I can't claim to be fond of the tat of any of the springs here, but I think that's not mostly how you are meant to take them.

Nik: nods

Lamont: but this one you are? Should I try it?

Nik: I mean... it is an acquired taste, if you wish to, I think the spring is the least bad.

Lamont: smiles

Lamont: well, maybe it will help my headache

Nik: gestures to where the spring actually bubbling up, where there is indeed a cup fastened by chain to a marble pillar.

Nik: Oh, your head is still troubling you?

Lamont: It's tolerable

Lamont: will go and dip the cup in the pond, making a face as he takes a sip

Nik: smiles at that

Nik: About as bad as you expected?

Lamont: you described it well

Nik: I gather that a small amount is all that's recommended.

Nik: Which is fortunate for those of us who were made to drink it regularly 😉

Lamont: Yes, I'm glad for you - and perhaps another reason one might not think to look for you here?

Nik: Perhaps. I mostly relied upon the willow branches to conceal me. I was smaller and if I wore green, I might practically blend in.

Lamont: nods

Lamont: turns around, scanning the space

Nik: Did you wish to keep walking? We can, of course, I don't mean to restrain you here.

Lamont: do you have anywhere else to show me?

Nik: Certainly 🙂

Lamont: then, shall we?

Nik: will lead the way to another section of the grounds, this one decorated with several well-worn marble statues, interspersed with cypress trees and little nooks where one can sit.

Nik: It is a little sunnier here, at least at this time of day.

Lamont: nods, scanning broadly around this area as well before stopping to appreciate any of the details

Lamont: what are the statues?

Nik: Nymphs, I think. At least, they are much too lively to be noble ancestors, I surmise.

Lamont: eyes one

Lamont: Perhaps they're just meant to be demonstrating proper attire for the pools?

Nik: laughs at that

Nik: Perhaps! They are rather indecorous, but I enjoy them.

Lamont: nods. "I think they loook quite nice here."

Nik: Mother wanted them put a bit out of the way, I think 😉

Lamont: I can't imagine any guests would complain, but perhaps I am underestimating the commitment to decorum of some of my peers.

Nik: chuckles

Lamont: I would think it most impolite to let any such sentiments reach your lady mother, however

Nik: I think it was her own preference, when she arrived here as a newly-wedded lady, but I admit it was before my time that they were relocated.

Nik: But it is a good place for them.

Lamont: ahhh, yes, I see

Lamont: It does suit them.

Lamont: says, scanning around again

Nik: Are you looking for someone?

Lamont: hmm?

Nik: You seem a little distracted, is all. I wondered if there was something on your mind.

Lamont: oh - no. My apologies.

Nik: No need to apologize.

Lamont: would you like to sit? or continue on?

Nik: Perhaps sit for a little?

Nik: gestures to one of the little benches

Lamont: will sit then, leaving space for Nik to join me if he so desires

Nik: sits next to you

Nik: I have been meaning to tell you... I tried as you suggested, with other people, to, ah, broaden my horizons.

Nik: says a bit shyly

Lamont: oh? yes...

Nik: Coifare took me to a ceremony at the temple of Sehanine, which was quite enlightening.

Lamont: nods, seeming tense

Nik: Does that trouble you? I was trying to follow your advice, as much as I could.

Nik: asks gently

Lamont: No.

Lamont: smiles tighty, and seems to look past you

Nik: Ah... well, I would be pleased to tell you more, or to change the subject if you prefer. I don't wish to cause any offense.

Lamont: I'm not offended.

Nik: All right...

Lamont: I'm sorry, perhaps I am too distracted for this conversation

Nik: Is something amiss?

Lamont: says looking around again

Lamont: frowns, and stands up, hand on his sword

Lamont: I'm not sure.

Lamont: is facing away from Nik

Nik: looks around, a bit puzzled

Lamont: I can't fathom what could be amiss here but... I have such a strong sense of it

Nik: Because of your mark?

Lamont: nods, still scanning the area

Nik: Well, I admit I don't fully know how it works, but I don't think there is any likelihood of danger here?

Lamont: ...

Lamont: whirls suddenly to the entrance of the cyprus grove, sword slashing at a grotesque, toothy creature with outstrected arms ending in sharp claws

Nik: jumps up, startled

Nik: tries to run towards Lamont but is grasped on his way there by another of the monstrous creatures, and screams

Lamont: turns sharply when he hears Nik scream, and

Lamont: slashes forward at the creature that has grasped Nik, trying to force it to let him go

Lamont: Let him go!

Nik: pulls away from it, with a tearing of silk robes, and is able to get out of its claws, though with some scratches on his arms.

Lamont: Nik - run!

Nik: looks around for where to run to, seeing other similar creatures in the distance.

Nik: Come with me!

Lamont: says, caught between the two creatures for the moment, only able to keep one at bay while the other lunges at him from behind, slashing him across the back with its claws

Lamont: I'll be right behind you

Nik: looks reluctant to leave Lamont, and scared

Nik: The chapel - we can get there, if we go that way...

Lamont: says, trying to keep his voice steady, advancing at the creature in front of him, trying to get it to back off a bit so that he can get free

Nik: points to an unmarked path through the trees

Nik: will head that way, but keeps looking back for Lamont

Lamont: nods, narrowly missing another attack, but taking anther grazing slash in the shoulder as he breaks past the wounded creature with a disabling thrust of his sword, and chasing after Nik

Nik: grasps frantically for your hand and will run to the chapel

Lamont: takes your hand

Lamont: are you alright?

Nik: Its claws scratched my arms when I pulled away. It's not too bad...

Nik: is clearly bleeding a bit, despite his protests

Lamont: where does this path lead?

Nik: it goes to the chapel, just not the main way.

Nik: what are those things?

Nik: some kind of demons?

Lamont: I think so.

Nik: what are they doing here??

Lamont: I don't know, but there's more. I'm not sure they're alone.

Nik: you're hurt 😮

Lamont: looks back to see if they are being chased still, then willl squeeze Nik's hand again and step ahead of him, sword at the ready

Lamont: It's bearable

Lamont: 's back is pretty bloody

Nik: oh, no, please, be careful...

Lamont: I will - it would be easier with armour.... even just a shield -_- Stay behind me for now

Nik: nods, sticking near Lamont

Coifárë Joins the Party and They Raid The Chapel For Weapons

Coifárë: will be in the chapel, having been at morning prayer/meditation, but will be heading towards the door after hearing some sort of commotion outside.

Lamont: I can see it...

Lamont: pauses though

Nik: Run straight for the door, we can close it...

Lamont: nods, looking off to the side

Nik: is there something there?

Nik: asks, following your gaze

Lamont: Yes.

Lamont: It's liketh other one, but nastier I think

Lamont: You run, I'll keep it distracted, and I'll join you straight away

Nik: No, Lamont, please, just go with me, I can't bear to leave you!

Lamont: Nik, I -

Lamont: (I don't think we're quite there yet - just about to make a break for it :x)

Lamont: GO to them.

Lamont: I swear

Nik: looks back and forth, and then nods and will run as fast as he can to Coifare at the temple.

Lamont: points to the demon with his sword, hoping Coifare can see it.

Lamont: will charge it as soon as Nik takes off, just planning to keep it distracted

Coifárë: Get inside!

Coifárë: yells ostensibly to both of them.

Nik: stumbles over the threshold, making it inside, turning back as soon as possible to see where Lamont is

Nik: Coifare, it's a demon - demons, I don't know how many!

Lamont: will start trhing to make his wasy to the chapel, moving more slowly to defend himself as best as he can

Coifárë: Nik, are you okay?

Coifárë: Lamont, you get inside this chapel right this instant!

Nik: is lightly wounded, his white under-robe stained with blood, but not extremely hurt.

Coifárë: throws out a flash of sacred radiance at one of the demons near to Lamont.

Lamont: will make a break for it nd run once the things is distracted

Coifárë: will keep throwing magic at the demons until Lamont is inside the chapel, then slam the door shut.

Lamont: stumbles in the door

Coifárë: Nik, the chapel is consecrated ground, yes?

Nik: nods

Lamont: leans against it a moment to catch his breath

Nik: Yes, will it keep them out?

Nik: comes over to check Lamont's injuries

Lamont: has added one more serious gash on his sword arm to the collection

Coifárë: The lesser ones, at least, but we don't know what all is out there.

Nik: Oh no...

Coifárë: Oh, Lamont!

Lamont: Theres'... I saw something else, with them, in the trees

Nik: what sort of something else?

Coifárë: will move to take a look at Lamont's wounds.

Lamont: I wouldn't swear it, but thought I saw a number of tieflings...

Coifárë: Gueiris?

Coifárë: Nik, give me your hand.

Coifárë: places a hand on Lamont's shoulder as well.

Nik: takes your hand, confused but obedient

Coifárë: channels Corellon's gift, at the very least managing to close Nik and Lamont's wounds.

Narrator: (They've got a little bit of Lay on Hands, at least 😉 )

Nik: oh... thank you 😮

Coifárë: You're welcome, of course, but that's about all of it I can manage for the day.

Lamont: No, not him.

Nik: nods

Lamont: seems somewhat better, anway, and massages his arm once the cut there closes, leaving the ones on his back only partly closed and the rest healed

Lamont: thank you.

Coifárë: I counted a half dozen at least, and...

Coifárë: pauses a moment to listen.

Lamont: (quietly) These were with the demons, not attacking them. They're.... hunting for stragglers I think. We can't stay here long.

Coifárë: It sounds like quite a bit more out there somewhere.

Coifárë: nods.

Lamont: I would give quite a lot for at least a shield -_-

Nik: Lamont.... did you say you could use a shield?

Nik: looks around

Coifárë: Nik, would your family take it terribly amiss if we availed ourselves of some of the armament here in the chapel?

Lamont: mmhmm.

Nik: I think it would be quite acceptable under the circumstances....

Narrator: (I'm assuming several of the statues have perfectly serviceable weapons, and/or ones on their altars.)

Lamont: looks around

Nik: will go to the statue of Sehanine, which has a perhaps-atypical round silver shield on its arm and, making a respectful bow, take it down

Lamont: ...If you think it's alright....

Nik: holds it out to Lamont

Coifárë: will return to the statue of Corellon to retrieve a spear from its place of honor on the altar, saying a prayer of thanks.

Lamont: Thank you.

Nik: It's an old family heirloom, nobody uses it now, I'm sure it's fine.

Lamont: should I... pray? Thank her?

Nik: It can't hurt.

Lamont: Then... thank you lady, I will try to honour it, and return it when everythign is safe

Lamont: says to the statue

Nik: It's, um, it's the Amathalis, like my family's namesake. the pale shield. I think it can do some special things but I don't know, um, exactly how to make it work... My father just told me that only some people can use it.

Nik: I mean... I think anyone can hold it up to make it block a sword. but for the magic parts...

Lamont: oh. well. That will be enough, I think

Coifárë: has a small smile on their face the boys don't get to see.

Coifárë: has a more serious face as they step closer, testing the heft of the spear.

Lamont: straps it on his arm carefully

Coifárë: All right, do we have a plan? Make for the main house to regroup with everyone?

Lamont: We should try and make it back to the house, and round up any other we find, yes

Lamont: there will be greater safety in numbers, and anyone else alone in the gardens will be vulnerable

Nik: nods

Nik: I can take us through some of the less-obvious routes if that would help?

Lamont: considers

Lamont: yes. if we can get you to safety, maybe we can find some others to lead a party out and rescue anyone in need

Lamont: but we can still aid anyone we encounter along the way

Nik: nods

Coifárë: nods.

Lamont: is there a back way out from here?

Nik: well there's the mausoleum... we could get out through there, it's underneath but it has an entrance to the back...

Lamont: Alright, let's try that. they waiting for us to come out the main door

Coifárë: Lamont, left flank, I'll take the right?

Lamont: yes.

Nik: Wait!

Coifárë: stops.

Lamont: also stops

Coifárë: What is it?

Lamont: turns back to Nik

Nik: will go to Lamont and give him a kiss

Lamont: is surprised

Lamont: Nik....

Nik: is basically trying to put every unspoken word and wish for Lamont's safety into the kiss, in case it's his last chance.

Lamont: I'll be alright

Lamont: says, trying his best to sound reassuring

Coifárë: smiles.

Coifárë: We all will be.

Nik: goes over and gives Coifare a kiss as well.

Lamont: was already blushing a bit, but more so now

Lamont: (idk idk maybe' its just the adrenaline >.>)

Nik: Please, be safe.

Coifárë: will be sure to give Nik a very passionate kiss.

Coifárë: Safe is relative. And, just to complete the set...

Coifárë: goes over to give Lamont a deep kiss as well.

Coifárë: Now I feel blessed by the Seldarine. Shall we, gentlemen?

Lamont: just needs a moment to reboot, but nods

Coifárë: grins.

Lamont: ....yes.

Nik: nods, determined

Coifárë: will flank Nik as he directs them where to go.

Lamont: falls in on the left of their little formation

Nik: leads the way down to the mausoleum underneath the chapel, picking his way through the family vault to the back entrance.

Nik: Sorry, sorry, noble ancestors, just passing through...

Nik: can see to lead Lamont in the dark at least ;)

Lamont: will try not to fumble around too much.... though perhaps the shield might glow just faintly, also....

Nik: (true 🙂

Nik: will guide us to the back of the temple, where there is effectively like a cellar door opening up from the ground (probably made for being able to bring coffins down here)

Nik: should I open it?

Lamont: yes, but let me go ahead

Lamont: will try and position himself so that Nik can open it but that he can be the frst one out in case there is anything there

Nik: will open the door but let Lamont and Coifare go first through it, in case of danger

Coifárë: moves such that their spear is ready to cover Lamont if there are attackers.

Lamont: steps out into the light, blinking slightly, and looks around before beckoning the others quietly

Coifárë: follows along, taking up the rear to keep Nik protected between themself and Lamont.

Lamont: will gesture at a copse of trees a little to the left, where movement can be heard

Lamont: then gestures the other direstion, and will head that way, shield at the ready

Coifárë: keeps an eye on the trees and follows Lamont's lead.

Lamont: can get us that far safely without being noticed by the demons or the cultists with them, but proceeding further looks like it will be more challenging

Lamont Goes Super Saiyan

Lamont: (quietly) Do you know the sigil they're sporting? I know I've studied it but I can't place it.

Coifárë: (q) Primordial, I'm pretty sure, but I can't say beyond that.

Lamont: nods

Lamont: I can grab their attention, for Nik to run past.... you can lend your aid where ti is needed most?

Coifárë: frowns, concerned.

Coifárë: You've already been injured. Perhaps I should provide the distraction.

Lamont: I have a shield, and i feel... suitably reinvigorated. This is what I'm trained for...

Coifárë: glances at Nik.

Nik: I will go where you tell me, I trust your judgments

Lamont: Good.

Coifárë: (to Lamont) No heroics. I have a fine voice, but my lyrical composition is terrible. You don't want to be remembered with a song that doesn't rhyme.

Nik: I can write poetry but I'd rather not have to for that occasion!

Lamont: I shall do my best within the bounds of honour, but I certainly don't intend to die here.

Lamont: gives them both a fond look and then will charge out towards on of the smaller groups

Coifárë: sighs, and gives a strange half-smile.

Nik: will run in the other direction, to get past them

Coifárë: That man may be the death of us both, if he doesn't get himself killed first.

Coifárë: follows after Nik to fend off any enemies they might run into.

Lamont: will fight defensively, trying not to get penned in, and try to withdraw back towards the others, as more demons drift over, attracted by the confrontation and potential prey

Lamont: (idk if the others are watching or just trying to get through, but we can say, either way, there is a very bright flash of silvery light that probably anyone in the area would have a hard time ignoring)

Nik: glances back to look at that

Coifárë: That...strikes me as unusual...

Lamont: is booking it back towards you. All the demons proper that were around are basically ash, and the cultists looking surprised and singed

Coifárë: Please don't take this as an insult, but I'm assuming that was the shield?

Coifárë: will say when Lamont catches up.

Lamont: yes, go - I don't know if it can do that again

Coifárë: (quietly, in elduar) Praise be to you, Moon Maiden, who watches over these imperiled lovers.

Nik: also in Elduar will say, "you'd better be including yourself in that" under his breath as he passes by.

Coifárë: spares Nik a smirking glance at that.

Lamont: Come on - there are still more of them

Lamont: looks between them like 😩

Nik: yes, let's hurry

Coifárë: will follow along with the other two.

Lamont: will forge ahead, then

Lamont: (And unless ether of you have more things they want to do here, possibly we can make it back to the thouse without further major peril? Maybe some minor peril, L&C can heroically kill a few demons together, Nik's heroes 😍 )

Narrator: (Heh, that works for me)

Victorina Runs Back to the House

Victorina: Victorina lounges in one of the numerous hot springs, reflecting on the weekend. Despite the rocky start, things have been going well. She met with several people who showed at least polite interest in the Cause. There'd actually been some fun moments too. The guest of honor was a good dancer and didn't try to force conversation on her. And these hot springs were nice; maybe that could be something the surveyors back home could look into?

Victorina: She's jolted out of a half doze by the screaming; not the joyous kind of screaming that was normal for this weekend. But the other kind, the kind she heard during her childhood at the family home. Screams of fear and anger.

Victorina: She'll race into the main building wearing nothing more than a bathrobe.

A Rather Uncouth Visitor

Lavinia sighed and lay back on the bed. She knew she should be outside, enjoying the springs and beautiful weather, but she didn’t want to.

Why had she ever thought he would be satisfied with only her? He was handsome, dashing, powerful, courageous, more interesting than anyone she had ever met. And she was just… herself. Boring. Predictable. Plain. Weak.

Of course he would need more than what she could offer. Maybe she could learn to live with that. Maybe…

No. She couldn’t live that way. It wasn’t her. She knew that now. She would rather die a penniless old maid than spend her life with someone who did not… could not.. Love her. She had narrowly escaped that fate twice now. She wouldn’t fall into it a third time.

Lavinia pushed herself to her feet and went over to the second story window. It looked out over the garden and she had to admit that the view was quite stunning. She could see the shimmering water in the many pools, the lazy movement of the willow trees. In the distance a group of tieflings stood among the trees.

Strange. She didn’t recognize them…

Then she heard a scream from somewhere in the gardens and her eyebrows knitted in concern. She leaned forward to get a better look.

The window exploded.

Lavinia found herself tossed backward into a large oak dresser. Her head thunked against the front of it and she slid gracelessly to the ground, covered in glass shards and already bleeding from half a dozen shallow cuts on her face and arms. Her vision swam. Blindly, she put an arm out and grabbed the handle of one drawer, using it to pull herself to a sitting position. As her vision cleared she silently thanked the gods that none of the glass had gotten into her eyes. When she saw what was now in the room with her, however, she almost wished that it had.

Scrabbling around in the shards of glass was a monstrosity. It pulled itself up and stood in front of her. It was just taller than her, and covered in a thick, gray, stony hide. Misshapen, batlike wings spread out behind it. Its mouth gaped wide, revealing multiple rows of sharp teeth.

Lavinia screamed. All things considered, she felt that she was quite justified in it.

The creature lunged at her and she instinctively threw herself to the side. It crashed into the dresser and shattered the front of it, sending petticoats and even more intimate things flying about the room as it tried to extricate itself from the clothes and splintered furniture.

Lavinia scrambled across the floor on her hands and knees. She hastily grabbed for the embossed leather portmanteau that was stored under her bed and hauled it out, flinging open the side panel and rooting inside.

The creature found its feet again and started towards her, jagged claws extended. She finally found what she was looking for and grabbed it out of the luggage. She hauled back with both hands and put all her meager strength into swinging.

The rolling pin connected with the creature’s jaw and the handle snapped off in her small hand, but she heard the demon grunt and its head spun sharply. It fell back, partly in surprise and partly in pain.

Lavinia didn’t think. She was far beyond the point of rational thought. She simply ran towards the door of the room, as fast as her legs would carry her.

She grabbed the knob and was about to yank the door open when a sharp pain blossomed in her shoulder. The creature had grabbed her and sunk its claws into the flesh of her upper arm. It pulled her backwards and tossed her down onto the clothing strewn floor.

The creature pounced on her and slashed with its claws, tearing away part of her pink dress, but it came just short of cutting into the flesh beneath.

Lavinia looked down at the torn fabric and suddenly a wholly irrational wave of fury overtook her.

“That was TAFFETA!” she screamed up at the creature, and swung her small fist in its direction.

The creature was caught off guard, but at the last moment it opened its mouth and her fist sunk into its maw almost to the elbow. The creature bit down and Lavinia felt its needle-like teeth sink into the flesh of her forearm.

She screamed, but at the same time the dragonmark on her now-exposed shoulder began to glow with a golden light.

The creature looked momentarily surprised, then curious, then increasingly panicked as it opened its mouth and tried to grab her arm to remove it, but Lavinia leaned herself up and into the creature, keeping her hand jammed in its mouth. The creature’s belly began to distend and after a few moments a fluffy, pale yellow cream started oozing out from its mouth around Lavinia’s arm. The creature fell backwards and her arm came free of its jaws. It convulsed on the floor, desperately clawing at its throat for a few more seconds, and then lay still.

“Choke on crème pâtissière, you ugly bastard….” she said weakly, and then promptly fainted.

Leonora and Magga Link Up With Akan

Leonora: is lounging around in bed, enjoying a late start to the day with her dear husband.

Leonora: Mmm ... this is nice. We should come here more often, just the two of us.

Leonora: rubs Magga's chest playfully.

Magga: We could do that. It's a nice break from the rigours of the social season. and from demons.

Leonora: Well let's see how our business goes ... but yes.

Leonora: pauses.

Leonora: Did you hear that?

Magga: Hmm? hear what?

Leonora: Listen!

Leonora: sits up and waits, listening attentively.

Magga: pauses to listen more closely

Leonora: There, again!

Magga: It did sound like someone screaming.

Leonora: And ... dretch? It can't be ...

Leonora: activates her dragonmark and hops out of bed, starting to put on whatever clothes are nearby.

Magga: gets up to find his stash of weapons in a case under the bed

Leonora: You brought the thin one too, right?

Magga: Have a little faith in your husband, I don't travel unprepared.

Leonora: I swear by all the gods if you didn't bring a sword for me, you'll never hear the end of this!

Magga: hands you your sword once he opens the case

Leonora: nods.

Leonora: Don't suppose you have a breastplate or something in there?

Magga: That may be a steeper request. Ring of protection will have to do.

Leonora: I'll take it.

Leonora: What did Yadda say she was going to be up to?

Leonora: says, throwing on clothes haphazardly.

Magga: Breakfast in the garden, I think?

Leonora: All right, Nenea is next door still I think.

Leonora: can hear the sounds getting louder - clearly more obvious that this is not just one random attacker, or some half-dreamt delusion.

Leonora: My love, are we together or separate in this?

Magga: Where would you wish me to be? I can go to find Yadda, or I can make sure Nenea is safe.

Leonora: Nenea is best to just stay where she is. Yadda can be more useful. Do we have a blade suitable for her?

Magga: looks back into his case and pulls out a long dagger

Magga: Will this do?

Leonora: nods.

Leonora: Hand it here.

Leonora: Come, we need more information.

Leonora: takes the dagger with one hand, Magga's hand with the other, and they head out of the room into the hall, then around the corner to the next room to find Nenea.

Nenea Spargo: will have opened her door to look out into the hallway.

Nenea Spargo: My lord, my lady, what's going on?

Magga: follows you with his weapon in hand, once he throws on a bathrobe

Leonora: It sounds like an attack. Big, small, I'm not sure.

Leonora: But this place is ill-prepared for a demon attack, and many of the guests won't be well-armed.

Leonora: You will stay here. Magga and I are going to fight.

Nenea Spargo: nods.

Nenea Spargo: I could try to gather the other guests and staff?

Leonora: pauses.

Leonora: We don't know yet how many the enemy are, or how they are distributed.

Leonora: I admire your desire to help, Nenea. But you would be putting yourself at great risk.

Magga: It might be good to find whatever passes for security here, in case they haven't already been alerted to the attack.

Leonora: nods.

Leonora: All right. While we're together, we can move silently. But you are not to engage with demons, do you understand me, Nenea?

Nenea Spargo: nods.

Nenea Spargo: Standard protocol, yes, my lady.

Leonora: We'll get you to safety, and then you stay there.

Magga: takes a look out in the hallway and pronounces it all clear for now

Leonora: All right, let's go.

Magga: I'll lead the way. Heading for the courtyard if we get separated.

Leonora: My love, how many guards did this place seem to have? Seemed like just a handful, no?

Leonora: says as they travel, still within the area of her dragonmark's effect.

Magga: Hmm not many, although some folks might travel with a personal guard as well. I'd guess we can expect maybe 10 trained warriors, maybe a few more if we're lucky? Some of the guests no doubt have martial skill as well, of course.

Leonora: Right. Let's go then.

Leonora: says grimly.

Magga: heads out to search for whatever security guards they might have here

Nenea Spargo: trails after them on high alert.

Leonora: turns the corner to see a foul creature turned the other way. She moves silently and swiftly in her bubble behind it, then stabs it in the back of its scaly neck. It falls.

Leonora: looks back, then waves them all forward.

Magga: Hm some of them are in the house already... not good...

Leonora: There seem to be a lot. Not just a singleton or pair. A raid, something with some coordination perhaps.

Leonora:Magga, up ahead! Can you smell them?

Magga: Yeah, there's at least two.

Leonora: looks at Nenea, then Magga, then back ahead.

Leonora: All right, it's got to be us, then.

Magga: nods, will blow you a kiss, and then turn the corner to face the attackers

Leonora: moves quickly through the halls, which are not heavily infested (yet). She encourages/orders anyone who looks like they can't fight to barricade themselves in their rooms.

Magga: keeps moving along with Leonora, keeping an eye out for attackers

Leonora: leads us out to the grounds, where we can get a better sense of the scope of this attack.

Narrator: The demons seem to have spread out to wreak havoc throughout the grounds, though you can hear some pockets of fighting here and there.

Leonora: and Magga head towards the nearest and loudest fighting.

Leonora: With me, love!

Magga: looks up at her cry and will go to her side

Magga: is momentarily distracted by a bright flash from somewhere in the gardens

Magga: Someone did something radiant over there...

Leonora: nods.

Akan Nabari: is in a small area where several of the paths meet, surrounded by the corpses of cultists and demons. A tall demon of shadow and flame and an armored cultist are the only enemies left standing, but Akan is clearly on the defensive, wounded and wearing only a robe tied around his waist.

Leonora: rushes over to the warrior.

Leonora: knows she is outmatched by this demon but is hoping it doesn't notice yet.

Magga: hurries there as well, greataxe at the ready

Nik: (maybe we can flank it 😉

Leonora: (sure)

Magga: aims for the demon's knees

Leonora: creates a bubble of silence around herself, then slides around the creature on the side away from the cultist, hoping that Akan can take care of that side of things.

Akan Nabari: is very happy to take advantage of the flankers to get the better of his two assailants. The unfamiliar blade he wields pierces through the demon's skull (seemingly the only genuinely solid part of it) as it turns, howling, at Magga's attack.

Narrator: The cultist, for her part, steels herself, but recognize three on one is a losing proposition.

Leonora: tries to prevent the cultist from making an escape.

Cultist: Kossuth will cleanse you all in his blessed holocaust.

Leonora: stabs the cultist.

Magga: Shut up.

Akan Nabari: genuinely laughs as the cultist falls, having been occupied with the two more obvious targets.

Akan Nabari: Well said, Lord Wengal. My thanks to you and Lady Wengal. Please excuse my indecorous attire.

Magga: No worse than my current garb. Grabbed it off the hook on the door but I think this one is the wife's, it's a bit on the small side.

Leonora: The bathrobes suit you, I think.

Akan Nabari: smirks.

Leonora: Nabari, are you hurt badly?

Akan Nabari: My mark prevented much of the worst, but...

Akan Nabari: winces.

Akan Nabari: I'll be in need of some more time in the pools, I'm sure.

Akan Nabari: stumbles slightly.

Magga: looks over to Leonora

Magga: Do you want me to take him back to the house?

Leonora: If you would, love. It should be mainly clear all the way back. I need to go after Yadda still.

Magga: Of course. Take care, but take heads.

Magga: will help Akan up, steadying him.

Akan Nabari: My thanks. Are you sure you'll be all right, Lady Wengal?

Magga: gives a little chuckle at that

Akan Nabari: I mean no offense; I almost wasn't until you two arrived.

Magga: No offense taken, by any means. I'm glad we could make it in time to help.

Akan Nabari: As am I, my lord.

Akan Nabari: chuckles and winces.

Leonora: I hope to be all right, Nabari.

Leonora: That's all of us can do.

Leonora: The situation is chaotic still, and I aim to impose some order.

Leonora: looks out across the broad grounds.

Akan Nabari: I believe you will.

Leonora: And thankfully, once that's done, there should be enough time for a hot bath.

Magga: Come back soon, dear. I'll be keeping watch for you and Yadda.

Leonora: kisses Magga, then heads off.

Akan Nabari: Your wife is quite the woman, my lord, if you don't mind my saying.

Akan Nabari: will say to Magga once Leonora has left.

Magga: She is remarkable.

Akan Nabari: sags against Magga.

Akan Nabari: Now, if you don't mind helping an old man back to the house...

Magga: Buck up there, you'll be back in the saddle soon enough, fighting demons or whatever other terrors await.

Magga: will escort him back to the main house

Leonora Finds Yadda In the Hedge Maze

Leonora: is lightly wounded but nothing serious at all. She enters the garden area, looking around for signs of Yadda in the chaos. Seeing none immediately, she descends further into the area, sword in hand.

Leonora: Yadda!

Leonora: shouts into the din, probably without effect given the commotion.

Yadda: upon seeing smoke and flying creatures divebombing the spa guests has headed into the resort's hedge maze to find cover. Along the way she has picked up a large pair of pruning shears to use for defense.

Yadda: pokes her head up above the hedge wall upon hearing her name, seeing Leonora a few rows over.

Yadda: Over here!

Leonora: On my way!

Leonora: navigates as quickly as she can, considering just hacking her way through for a second, but not wanting to dull her bloodstained blade.

Yadda: hears a screech overhead and looks up to see that her shout has attracked the attention of one of the smaller flying demons. She quickly starts running through the twisting hedgerows towards her aunt.

Leonora: turns a corner and finally runs into Yadda, almost literally.

Leonora: Ah! There you are!

Leonora: Here, we brought this for you!

Leonora: hands you a long dagger, which is probably at least marginally better than shears.

Yadda: We've got company!

Yadda: takes the dagger and turns around, standing next to her aunt as the demon swoops down at them.

Yadda: Thanks!

Leonora: dives to the ground in a half-roll.

Yadda: steps to the side as the creature dives, using her long arms to swat at it with the dagger, scoring a hit on its leg as it goes past.

Leonora: scrambles to her feet and advances at the creature, stabbing it in the face.

Leonora: Foul thing!

Yadda: rushes over to make sure that the creature is dead before throwing her arms around her aunt

Yadda: I'm so glad to see you!

Leonora: Same.

Yadda: Is uncle alright? And Nenea?

Leonora: embraces the large girl awkwardly, sword still in hand.

Yadda: realizes she may be crushing her aunt and lets go of her

Leonora: Yes, fine. Magga and I just took care of some business out in the courtyard with Akan Nabari. Nenea is going to be safe and stay put.

Yadda: nods, relieved.

Yadda: Where do we go? Have they overrun the estate?

Leonora: They tried. My sense is that their numbers were not nearly enough. I don't think they had anticipated so many of the guests participating in a spirited defense.

Leonora: If it had just been the Amathalis guards, then the outcome would surely have been different.

Yadda: I managed to take one by surprise in the maze and then I tried to stay as hidden as possible. They are fierce, but they don't seem very intelligent, thank the gods.

Leonora: nods.

Leonora: It just doesn't seem coordinated. More like the things that I take care of in the backyard on quiet summer evenings.

Yadda: laughs at that

Leonora: Well, let's get the hell out of here, anyway. 'Trapped in a maze covered in demon blood' is not how I imagined dying.

Yadda: looks down at the blood and grass stains covering her floral print dress

Yadda: Ugh! My dress is ruined!

Leonora: We'll get you a better one.

Leonora: Next season the fashions will have changed anyway - this one was only ever going to be wearable for another couple of weeks.

Yadda: sighs

Yadda: I know, but it was from Mythragal!

Yadda: Ah well... let's go

Leonora: leads the way.

Yadda: will fall in step behind her aunt, brandinshing her dagger.

Rosalie and Juno Link Up and Look For Sebastien

Juno Morticia Auspex: will have moved to the main house entrances, setting up (temporary) skeletal sentries at each one. She's now directing a group of her osseous servants in battle with a small knot of demons in the outer courtyard, surrounded by a shadowy aura of necromantic energy.

Rosalie: will be coming around the corner in time to grab heavy marble bust and smash it over the head of the cultist behind Juno, his body thumping as it falls

Juno Morticia Auspex: glances back at hear the thud. She grins, her irises red and her fangs extended in the adrenaline of battle, but she smiles and nods respectfully at Rosalie.

Juno Morticia Auspex: My hero.

Rosalie: grins

Hello again.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Are you all right?

Juno Morticia Auspex: will start retreating towards the doorway, her skeletons holding the line.

Rosalie: I'm okay! looks down at the marble bust and grimaces I should like a new weapon, though.

Juno Morticia Auspex: holds out her hand, and a length of bone forms into a serviceable club, which she offers to Rose.

Juno Morticia Auspex: When I said I wanted practice on my corporeal manifestations, I did not think it would be tested so soon.

Rosalie: takes the club and bounces it up and down in her hands a couple of times

Well, I say you're doing just fine, if my words have any weight.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Is it self-aggrandizing if I say I will take your compliment in the highest regard?

Juno Morticia Auspex: will have retreated to the doorway with Rose, her skeletons blocking the entrance.

Rosalie: grins again

Not at all, and if it is, I won't tell anyone.

Juno Morticia Auspex: A very gracious savior indeed.

Juno Morticia Auspex: I think it best we make a tactical retreat and try to regroup with anyone else we can find. My constructs can only hold them so long on their own.

Rosalie: nods, serious now

Rosalie: And I must find my brother. He's useless in a fight.

Juno Morticia Auspex: You got all the family martial prowess, then?

Juno Morticia Auspex: turns to move further into the manor, leaving her skeletons to hold the door.

Rosalie: shrugs a shoulder

What little there is to be had. Seb is exactly like my father, and my mother... my uncle showed us the basics.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Well, given said basics just saved my life, you and your uncle have my gratitude.

Rosalie: smiles

I shall send him your regards.

Juno Morticia Auspex: grins again, then her face goes immediately serious as she grabs Rose to pull her back as a cultist comes out of a doorway swinging a sword where Rose had just been. Juno throws up her other hand in the cultists direction, and there is a quiet rush of chill wind as a bolt of shadow streaks out into the cultists chest and he falls with a hole in his chest where the magic eats away his clothes and flesh. Juno stumbles, off balance as her cane clatters to the ground out of her outstretched hand.

Rosalie: quickly looks around for any additional foes then, seeing none, assists Juno up and checks her over

Well, now. I think we're even.

Juno Morticia Auspex: winces as she works to get to her feet.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Think nothing of it; I would have relished being in your debt.

Rosalie: laughs lightly, somewhat strained

Then you can be in my debt after I help you heal later.

Juno Morticia Auspex: gives a still somewhat pained smile.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Something to look forward to after the battle, then.

Juno Morticia Auspex: regains her footing and retrieves her cane.

Narrator: (Can we have Agatha pop up to direct them to the cellar?)

Agatha Grimsby: Pardon me, but the others are gathering in the cellar for safety. This way. points

Juno Morticia Auspex: Thank you, ma'am.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Shall we?

Rosalie: holds her club in a defensive position, just in case

We shall.

Sebastien and Chitara Head to the Cellar and Pick Up Victorina Along the Way

Sebastien: is definitly a shameless sleep sprawler

Sebastien: yawns and throws an arm around Chitara

Chitara: has compensated by just using him as an elaborate body pillow

Mmm, morning?

Sebastien: Morning my dear....

Chitara: yawns and smiles

You may have ruined me for normal pillows, cutie

Sebastien: I'm glad you find it a comfortable arrangement, I admit I'm growing fond.

Sebastien: says with a cheeky grin

Chitara: Mmm, me as well. Lots of sex, comfortable sleeping arrangements, what's not to love?

Sebastien: hmmm, perhaps a lack of coffee, but I believe that can be amended promptly! Shall I ring for some?

Chitara: Coffee would be-

freezes for a moment

Did you hear that?

Sebastien: Hmmm?

Sebastien: sits up with a stretch

Sebastien: hear what?

Chitara: It sounded like screaming.

Shifts out of bed to peek out the window

Oh, shit, they do not look friendly.

Sebastien: Who now? Screaming?

Sebastien: will come over and look out with you

Sebastien: Oh my! :o

Chitara: Hm, how are you in a fight, Seb?

Sebastien: Well... I have studied the blade, of course, as expected but... frankly I've never been a serious student, nor did I come armed to a spa :o

Chitara: Perfectly reasonable. I didn't bring weapons either, but I don't precisely need them. Perhaps we should find a more defensible room?

Sebastien: Well, not seriously. Of course its fashionable to carry but tits not intended as a practical weapon....

Sebastien: That sounds very sensible! I'm not sure what such a room would be - one without windows?

Chitara: nods

Maybe the wine cellar? We can grab anyone else who's not properly armed that we find along the way and bring them, too.

Sebastien: That sounds like quite a sensible place to shelter!

Sebastien: will hesitate as he throws on some clothes quickly so as not to be indecent, and take his flashy useless sword

Sebastien: Maybe they won't know its just for looks?

Chitara: belatedly remembers to put on clothes

Can't hurt. And if worse comes to worse, a showy sword is better than nothing at all

Lamont: Indeed! Should we... knock on any doors?

Chitara: Yes, we should. I'll take this end of the hall, you take that side, and then we meet in the middle again?

Narrator: (Presumably other folks will be beginning to open their doors to see what's going on as well)

Chitara: (presumably, yes! So it probably doesn't take long to wrangle people and let them know to go to the cellar)

Sebastien: can order some people about to assist with this, at least!

Victorina: "Chitara! Do you know what's going on?" cries Victorina.

Chitara: Victorina!

relieved smile, though her eyes are glowing ominously

Demons. For some reason, there's a bunch of demons out there. Seb and I are trying to get everyone to the wine cellar for safety.

Victorina: "Oh for the love of - this is supposed to be civilized lands. What are demons doing out here?"

Sebastien: That's what I said! We were having such a lovely time.

Chitara: I really wish I knew. It seems... unlikely. But we'll need to get to safety first, and worry about answers later.

Victorina: "So where are we heading? I thought I heard someone mention the cellar?"

Chitara: Yes, the wine cellar seems safest, and also easiest to defend. I suspect our warriors will be out engaging them, but I can at least shield the cellar door to keep us safe

Victorina: "Are we sure about that? How many entrances and/or exits does it have? I mean, it serves the entire resort, doesn't it?"

Sebastien: We can figure it out I'm sure - blocking off a ew doors seems a better prospect than anywhere else!

Chitara: Yes, and unless they're deliberately looking to kill us all, staying out of sight will do plenty on its own.

Sebastien: Shall we then?

Chitara: glances around worriedly

But we'd best get down there before they get into the house, it's easier to hide if they never see us to begin with

Sebastien: which way is it?

Victorina: "Let's take the servants' stairs there. It'd be more direct."

Chitara: Sounds perfect. And they're just over here.

Sebastien: looks a little shocked

Sebastien: Well... I suppose n an emergency....

Agatha Grimsby: will appear close by and be waving people to the correct area

Agatha Grimsby: This way! This way

Victorina: "What? You object to taking the servants' stairs?"

Chitara: smiles at Agatha

Come on, Seb, I promise the servant's stairs won't hurt you.

Sebastien: Well, I should, but it's as much for their sake as mine - but let's go!

Victorina: Victorina gives Chitara a glance that says, "Promise me this is just a fling and you're serious about this guy."

Chitara: winks at Victorina as they hurry down to the cellar

Sebastien: Will hustle along with everyone else, confidently telling everyone else where to go now that he's aware

Chitara: once they're in the cellar, Chitara looks around worriedly

Okay, we need to find every door into this cellar so that I can cover them. Victorina, Seb, would you mind helping scout them out?

Victorina: "Of course."

Sebastien: Where did that ghost go? she should know, she works here, didn't she say?

Narrator: (I'm assuming there's only the one entrance, though I suppose there might be more, especially if there are cave systems with the springs and whatnot)

Chitara: (I would assume only one, but it doesn't hurt to be thorough)

Chitara: She's still gathering stragglers, but...

dropping her voice

Truthfully, people are panicky and giving everyone a task will help keep them calm

Lamont: (yeah maybe one from outside to carry large thing in)

Sebastien: Ahh, very clever. I can certainly help with that!

Chitara: Wonderful.

Beams and kisses his cheek

I appreciate it

Sebastien: beams back at her But of course!

Sebastien: You there, you four, stop cowering, we need to secure the other entrances!

Sebastien: _will start directing people to keep them busy, getting some others - careful with the wines, man! - to empty some racks we can use to block them off

Victorina: Behind his back, Victorina rolls her eyes and continues pulling a heavy table towards the stairs they came down on.

Chitara: Victorina will likely be disappointed to see the slightly goofy smile Chitara wears for a moment as Seb goes off to be helpful

Don't block it yet, there's still people coming in. But here, let me help get it close

Rosalie and Juno Make it to the Cellar and the Door is Magically Hidden

Juno Morticia Auspex: will be coming down the stairs with Rosalie.

Rosalie: calls out

Seb!

Chitara: grins I was hoping you'd make it down. And who is this formidable woman with you?

Juno Morticia Auspex: Oh, good, others have made it down here. Everyone all right?

Juno Morticia Auspex: Juno Auspex, at your service, though perhaps introductions should wait for after we're all safe.

Sebastien: Rose! I'm here - are you alright?

Chitara: Lovely to meet you, did you see anyone else coming down? I don't want to lock anyone out, but I need to seal the door

Juno Morticia Auspex: will turn and start tracing glowing runes on the doorframe.

Rosalie: nods to Sebastien

Juno Morticia Auspex: I didn't see anyone else, but Ms. Grimsby is still gathering people, I think.

Chitara: Hmmm.

bites her lip thoughtfully, eyes glowing more intensely

A soft seal, then. Stand back for a moment, please?

Juno Morticia Auspex: will do so.

Chitara: steps up to put a hand on the doorframe, which vanishes in a flash of blue

Alright, the door is invisible, now. That lovely ghost woman-Ms. Grimsby, you said?- will be able to see it and get people through, but our attackers will not know it's there.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Fantastic. Illusion?

Juno Morticia Auspex: says, impressed.

Chitara: nods

It won't hold up if they're scouring the place with magic, but it's good enough for the moment.

Sebastien: What about the rear entrance?

Chitara: Lead the way, I'll give that one the same treatment.

Juno Morticia Auspex: You go. I'm going to see if I can put up a ward without interfering with your working.

Sebastien: Wonderful 😂

Chitara: Wonderful, thank you!

Lamont and Coifárë Get Nik to the Cellar and then Leave With Juno

Lamont: stands by the wall they've been direct to

Lamont: ....is this right?

Nik: Yes, right there.

Nik: well, it should be?

Lamont: runs the edge of the shield along the wall

Chitara: peeks her head out at hearing Lamont and Nik

Oh, I made it invisible so they wouldn't find us

Lamont: she said it was hidden...

Chitara: Come in quickly

Lamont: oh!

Lamont: (idk if Coifare is also with us)

Lamont: will go in though

Nik: enters as well

Lamont: Miss Kitus, hello.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Nik! Thank goodness.

Juno Morticia Auspex: will give him a hug.

Chitara: Are you alright?

Nik: I'm fine, is everyone here safe too?

Lamont: steps back to give her space to do so

Juno Morticia Auspex: Are you okay? Stillmarch?

Lamont: Yes.

Lamont: we're alright.

Chitara: We do have a couple healers down here, I think. If you need them.

noting the blood on both of their clothes

Lamont: says though he does look still not 100%

Juno Morticia Auspex: nods.

Coifárë: They both took some minor wounds, but I did what I could.

Lamont: Save it for someone in greater need - they were targeting people alone on the gardens.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Take a moment to catch your breath, but perhaps we should consider moving back out with what fighters we have to recover any stragglers.

Coifárë: nods.

Lamont: That's what I had planned

Lamont: there certainly will be others who need help, if we can get to them in time

Chitara: swears in Akhasic

I can keep this cellar safe as long as they're kept busy, try to send them here

Lamont: ...I don't suppose anyone here has any armouring spells >.>

Rosalie: grips her club

I can help, with a partner.

Chitara: grins

That I can do for you, Stillmarch. May I?

Lamont: yes, please.

Chitara: Puts her hand on his shoulder, briefly illuminating him with blue light

Alright, it's not chainmail, but it'll help

Lamont: thank you

Lamont: looks to Juno

Lamont: are you coming out to fight, or staying here to protect those ho are gathered here?

Juno Morticia Auspex: (to Rose, Seb, Nik, Victorina, et al) Can you hold here to protect people as we send them this way?

Rosalie: nods

Sebastien: Of course, - Magus was is? We'll be just fine.

Chitara: Yes, I can

Chitara: I've got a couple blasts saved up if I need them

Nik: nods

Lamont: turns to Nik. "Do you want the shield?"

Rosalie: to Juno Do be careful, I'm not out there to play hero for you.

Nik: No... you keep it.

Nik: I think you need it more than I do right now.

Lamont: I'll return it soon

Lamont: looks to Coifare. "Are you coming or staying here?"

Juno Morticia Auspex: smiles at Rose.

Lamont: me manages not to add the 'with Nik' part outloud >.>

Juno Morticia Auspex: I'm asking you to play hero for me here, so Stillmarch and I can go do so out there.

Coifárë: I'll go with you and Magus Auspex. The door will hold.

Lamont: nods. Then - let's go.

Coifárë: and Juno will follow out after Lamont.

Narrator: (Is anyone else going? I wasn't sure if Chitara was)

Chitara: (Chitara is staying behind just in case one of the attackers gets through)

Sebastien: will cast a glance between his sister and the Magus as the latter is heading out

Chitara: Catches Seb's eye and winks about them

Sebastien: raises his eyebrows, but smiles

Gueiris Returns to Therma Alba

Gueiris suspected something was off when he had received the letter recalling him back to Highmark this morning. Referring to his Uncle as his father, while true in a sense, his Uncle is his adopted father, was just not something he and his adopted family have done. His own desire to escape from the uncomfortable miasma that Therma Alba had become for him, most definitely coloured his decision to simply accept the letter, without question. When he had looked back and saw the black smoke from Therma Alba, he knew he had been duped. The regret over his selfishness burned in him.

That was at least a half hour ago, and a handful of minutes after he chose to leave his horse behind after a hard ride. No point in endangering the beast, and his own abilities were just as likely to harm the poor thing, as his enemies. Gueiris was no lancer or horseman. Feet on the ground was best.

One hundred yards separated him from the courtyard of the guest house. Shouts and the sounds of conflict could be heard from the estate. The brush had provided convenient cover so far, but it was open terrain from now on. Easy spotting for the two cloaked figures at the edge of the courtyard, if their attention was towards the road. They seemed more focused on inflicting harm on stragglers from conflicts deeper inside. Several crumpled forms lay motionless near them.

It must be some sort of raid, Gueiris thought. There were no signs of sufficient force to take and hold the estate. The reason for such an attack escaped him. It mattered not. Breathing deep, he brought his elemental power forth. His skin turned black and took the appearance of molten rock, fissures of red heat cracking through. Waves of red flames danced along his arms, and his eyes burned with power. Gathering elemental power caused earth to rip up from the ground around him and swirl as it coalesced into stone spears.

One of the figures turned, their attention drawn to the sound, despite the distance. Gueiris could make out red hued skin and horns on their now visible cloaked head. Tiefling like himself. It changed nothing. The earthen spears launched out from Gueiris, projected by his magic. At that range, a hit was not guaranteed, but the oblivious one of the pair was not aware of the strike to evade it, even as their ally cried a warning. The heavy projectiles slammed into them, crumpling them to the ground in a heap of blood and broken bones.

Gueiris ran, even before his strike had landed, closing the distance between him and the remaining tiefling. One hundred yards to go. She looked down in surprise at her companion. Eighty yards. The surprise of the attack and the charging form quickly vanished from her face. Out of her cloak came a crossbow. Sixty yards. She levels the crossbow at the charging form, taking aim and firing, all the while calling out in Primordial. Gueiris brought up his arms to shield his face as the bolt deflected off the stone-hardened skin of his forearms. Forty yards. Panic grips the woman’s face as she fumbles to reload the crossbow. Earth begins to rip up and trail from Gueiris’ hands, like hanging chains drug across the ground as he runs. Twenty yards. Forgoing the crossbow, the tiefling draws a curved blade from her waist and takes a tentative step back. Just out of sword reach, Gueiris plants and lashes with the chains of earth. They slam through what little defense the curved blade provided and rend large gashes of flesh from the woman. Screaming she drops to her knees. The earthen chain crumples to dust in Gueiris’ left hand and he raises an open palm to the crippled tiefling. A blast of flame erupts out of the hand, searing away any remaining life. Gueiris steps by the smoking form as it crumples motionless, and into the courtyard.

The courtyard is in disarray, although not the disaster Gueiris had feared. Yes, several bodies of guests and staff lay scattered about, and the debris of a still burning overturned carriage blocked the roundabout, but it was not the wholesale slaughter he had feared. The guesthouse doors looked intact, although several windows had been smashed in, even on higher floors. Fear clenched his gut, as he scanned those that were broken. Lavinia’s was the fourth on the left. A gentleman would have truly given her privacy, but while he would not have disturbed her, it didn’t mean he hadn’t tracked down where she was staying, and even considered knocking on her door. Right now, he would have given anything to have done so, to be there when this… this…

His thought was broken by the large monstrous form lumbering quickly towards him. Amateurish, getting distracted before ensuring no more enemies were about. The beast stood over 9’ high on slate grey hooves covered in shaggy brown fur. A maniacal horned ape head crowned the demon. Snarling, it launched gout of flame from its mouth at Gueiris, likely the source of fire for the burning carriage. The attack passed harmless over him, shield by not only his infernal heritage, but by the fire magic that burned in him.

Gueiris responded with an arcing slash from the remaining earthen chain, the sharpened stone cutting into the demonic flesh, less effective on a beast of such size. It roared in anger, swinging its meaty clawed hands at Gueiris. He spun away, trying to make space from the beast, avoiding the initial strike, but taking a grazing hit to his shoulder on the second. The stone-hardened skin soaks the blow, preventing the claws from tearing any flesh, the force of the impact causing Gueiris to grimace. He needed to end this quickly.

Stepping into the reach of the demon, he formed a blade of obsidian, powered by both his earth and fire magic, and drove it into the wide chest of the monster. The tip sunk half a dozen inches into the beast, a killing blow to a mortal, but only an inconvenience to a demon. A roar of glee and triumph burst from it, as it raised its massive clawed hands for a rending strike to finish the gnat in front of it. Gueiris smiled as well, pouring magic into the blade which exploded with a column of molten glass, driven straight through the demon, tunneling a hole through its chest two feet in diameter. The force of the blast, staggering the beast backward to the ground where it lay motionless.

Gueiris took a moment to gather his breath and scan for more threats. Spending his magical power so quickly would leave him vulnerable until he could refocus. The innate elemental power of Therma Alba would allow him to recover quickly, but facing another threat like that demon in succession would be risky. Fortunately, no other opponent presented themselves, hopefully scared off by how quickly the large demon was dispatched.

Lavinia!

Back to scanning the windows. His heart sank when he spotted the broken window. No time to recover. Jets of flame from his hands propelled him through the open window, where he landed in a roll, a blade of flame forming in his hand, looking for danger, or worse, the fate of the woman he loved.

Gueiris Finds Lavinia and They Are Reconciled

Lavinia: Gueiris lands just inside the open window and scans the room. The floor is covered in broken glass and scattered underclothes. A broken rolling pin lies in two pieces near his feet. Near the door to the room is a small winged demon, its stomach oddly deistended and leaking a yellowish cream from its mouth into a spreading puddle on the floor. Lavinia is in a crumpled heap nearby. There is blood around her on the floor, but not enough to seem immediately fatal.

Gueiris: plunges his flaming blade into the head of the demon for good measure after assessing there are no other threats. His molten flesh fades away revealing his red tattooed skin, before he scoop up Lavinia and takes her to bed to assess her condition

Gueiris: his fear subside somewhat seeing her chest rise and fall with her breath

Lavinia: has teeth marks in her upper arm that seem pretty deep as well as claw marks on her shoulder and a large knot on the back of her head. Her other injuries are just minor cuts.

Gueiris: a makeshift bandage is wrapped around Lavinia's arm from the remainder of his torn and burnt shirt. He places his hand on her forehead and the dragonmark on his chest glows softly. The link made, he flows some of his vitality into Lavinia

Gueiris: Please wake up

Lavinia: gasps and opens her eyes, looking around frantically before settling on Gueiris.

Gueiris: has a visible look of relief

Lavinia: What... what happened...

Lavinia: Is it dead?

Gueiris: if it wasn't I made sure it was.

Gueiris: Therma Alba is under attack... demons and others. I don't know why.

Lavinia: reaches up her uninjured arm to put a hand on his face.

Lavinia: You... came for me...

Gueiris: Of course I did. If something had happened to you...

Lavinia: And... you have no shirt.

Gueiris: Well a demon had burned most of it off already, and I needed something to cover that bite.

Gueiris: And how else was I supposed to live up to all those novels.

Lavinia: laughs and then winces in pain at the movement.

Lavinia: I thought... what about Juno?

Gueiris: Like I said in my letter, that was my Aunt making my life difficult... its always been you for me.

Lavinia: ...letter? What letter?

Lavinia: seems genuinely confused

Gueiris: I sent it to you after your invite... it explained how I was going to be showing up, that Juno knew my interests lay elsewhere... you never got it?

Lavinia: I never... oh. OH.

Lavinia: Oh my gods.

Lavinia: But she said... OH!

Lavinia: I thought... I thought I wasn't enough. That I was...

Lavinia: seems lost for words.

Gueiris: I thought you couldn't stand what was happening... that I wasnt being true enough to you... I can understand if you did feel that way... I can only hope you do not.

Lavinia: Do you... love her?

Gueiris: No. I just met her a week ago.

Gueiris: I love you.

Lavinia: looks up with tears forming in her eyes.

Lavinia: I love you too.

Gueiris: gently, fighting the passion for fear of hurting her, kisses Lavinia

Lavinia: melts into his arms like ganache.

Lavinia: kisses back as much as she can with her injuries

Gueiris: combat experience pulls him away from this moment

Gueiris: we aren't safe yet

Lavinia: glances over at the dead demon.

Lavinia: The others... is everyone else all right?

Gueiris: I don't know.

Lavinia: We need to find them.

Gueiris: Agreed

Gueiris: Are you strong enough to move? I can lend you more strength, but it will limit me if we have to fight.

Lavinia: I think I can walk. Luckily it wasn't my leg that it tried to eat.

Gueiris: I can honestly say this is the first time I've seen custard used as such an effective defense

Lavinia: Well... revenge is a dish best served sweet.

Gueiris: ... so they never suspect?

Lavinia: I don't know how that even worked. I thought I was dead.

Lavinia: I didn't know I had that in me...

Gueiris: I'm ever so glad you did

Lavinia: smiles and leans against him to stand.

Gueiris: and ever so sorry I wasnt here to make it unnecessary.

Lavinia: I'm sorry you weren't able to come to my rescue in a dashing manner. I'm certain that I broke all sorts of societal conventions by rescuing myself.

Gueiris: I think I can accept how things turned out, since you are still alive.

Gueiris: Where to first? I expended quite a bit of magic when I arrived. As long as we don't run into another big beast that was in the courtyard, I should be able to handle it.

Lavinia: Kitty and Mother were out on the grounds. I hope they would have had the sense to retreat inside. We should make our way downstairs and see who made it in.

Gueiris: Lets check this building to see if there is anyone needing help. You'll have to hold on to my tail if you need steadying.

Lavinia: blushes

Lavinia: Oh um... of course...

Gueiris: the arcane tattoos on his skin flare red, and his flesh resumes its molten rock appearance

Lavinia: 's eyes widen at seeing that.

Gueiris: heat radiates from his body

Lavinia: puts her hand near his shirtless back and feels the waves of heat coming off of him.

Lavinia: blushes even deeper.

Gueiris: one more thing... assuming you hadn't already realized, I had to use my dragonmark to wake you.

Lavinia: I know. I could feel you... like you were breathing into me. It was...

Lavinia: ...intense.

Gueiris: I would like to keep the link going... as a precaution, if you are willing.

Lavinia: Of course. I trust you.

Lavinia: I'm so sorry I ever doubted you.

Gueiris: Lets see who we can find.

Lavinia: nods.

Gueiris: the pair explore the guest house. They find broken rooms, a small handful of staff and guests beyond any help, and a pair of small winged demons, which were quickly dispatched after a small scuffle.

Lavinia: Gods these poor people...

Lavinia: Where is everyone else? The main house?

Gueiris: Likely so, taking shelter. Its a good sign that we are finding so few. It means anyone who had less serious injuries likely made it safety.

Lavinia: I hope so...

Lavinia: Should we try to make it there?

Gueiris: I still hear fighting going on.

Gueiris: considers

Lavinia: Do you have enough magic?

Gueiris: I could make it... its just making sure you are safe if we encounter more enemies.

Gueiris: No, we should find a place to hold up here. If you weren't already injured, I would suggest something different.

Gueiris: I can regain my magic, and you can recover some strength.

Lavinia: I think that's wise.

Gueiris: There is a linen closet. Grab a few thing. We can use the cellar. I'll barricade the door. Even if we get trapped inside, I can make a tunnel out, if needed.

Lavinia: will grab some candles and some pillows from one of the guest couches and follow him.

Lavinia: Are you hungry?

Gueiris: I could eat.

Lavinia: will create some tea and sandwiches and scones with clotted cream once they are safely ensconced in the closet.

Lavinia: It's almost like a picnic... except for all the blood.

Lavinia: (Is Gueiris injured at all?)

Gueiris: once he resumes his normal appearance, there is a large bruise on his shoulder.

Lavinia: You're hurt...

Gueiris: It's nothing. I'll be fine. Once this is over, I'll take advantage of the healing springs here.

Lavinia: Thank you... for coming back for me.

Gueiris: I was glad to, even if I wish I hadn't needed to.

Gueiris: Still interested in traveling? It's not normally this dangerous, but it can be.

Lavinia: thinks about that for a moment and looks down at her injured arm.

Lavinia: When that thing burst into the window I was terrified. I couldn't even think. I just... acted. And then when it tore my dress I was angry but... when it bit into my arm everything became so clear. Everything else fell away and I just felt... powerful. I can see how someone could get used to that.

Lavinia: And I think I could face any danger if it was with you.

Gueiris: smiles

Gueiris: You lived. That monster didn't. It speaks highly of your instincts and ability.

Gueiris: I know I would be happy to have you traveling with me.

Lavinia: Do you still think I might have an aptitude for elemental magic?

Gueiris: You definitely have some magical aptitude. I can try and work out the details when we have more time and under much better circumstance, if you would like.

Lavinia: If you are willing, I think I'd like to know.

Gueiris: I am honored that you would have me try.

Gueiris: and thank you for the tea.

Lavinia: smiles.

Gueiris: I need to meditate, and you need to rest. Lets try not to distract eachother.

Gueiris: gives a wry grin

Lavinia: Oh...

Lavinia: I was hoping that maybe we might... share another kiss?

Gueiris: How can a perfect gentleman deny such a request?

Lavinia: will shuffle closer to Gueiris and lean up for one more kiss.

Gueiris: will pull Lavinia close and kiss her deeply

Nik's Parents Find Him in the Cellar

Falmar Amathalis: and her husband will search for their son in a panic after things have calmed down enough.

Nik: will be found helping people in the cellar

Falmar Amathalis: Nikincë!

Nik: Mother!

Nik: will hurry over to her

Falmar Amathalis: says loudly as she rushes to embrace her son.

Nik: I'm all right. Are you both well?

Nik: tries to reassure her

Mikethelas Amathalis: We took some guards out on the grounds to head off the attack and got pinned down, but we're okay.

Falmar Amathalis: You're sure you're well? Breathing easily? No troubles?

Nik: Yes, I'm fine. I got a few scrapes when we were running away from the demons but Coifare helped heal me and they and Lamont got me to safety.

Mikethelas Amathalis: smiles at that.

Falmar Amathalis: We shall have to thank them both.

Falmar Amathalis: I was so worried.

Nik: We took refuge in the chapel, until we could get away.

Mikethelas Amathalis: In the chapel?

Nik: nods, looking slightly abashed

Nik: I thought, because it was an emergency, it would be all right for them to use some of the arms and armor there...

Nik: Lamont said he really just needed a shield, and Coifare could use a spear, so...

Mikethelas Amathalis: Did Lamont use the Amathalis?

Nik: Yes.

Falmar Amathalis: I'm sure that's perfectly all right in defense of our home and son.

Mikethelas Amathalis: Oh, of course!

Mikethelas Amathalis: I'm not upset, just...did it work for him? I saw a large flash of light and wondered...

Nik: Yes, he did... something. I didn't really see what, but it seemed like it killed a lot of demons in a burst of light.

Falmar Amathalis: Thank the gods for that.

Mikethelas Amathalis: Indeed.

Narrator: (I don't think Falmar has really let Nik go this whole time.)

Mikethelas Amathalis: looks thoughtful.

Nik: They brought me back here and then left again to go try to find others. I haven't seen them since...

Mikethelas Amathalis: I'm told the attack has been driven off, some I'm certain they're safe around here somewhere.

Nik: Does anyone know yet what happened? why did they attack?

Falmar Amathalis: Too many heroes today, I think.

Mikethelas Amathalis: We're still figuring that out. It might have something to do with some of our guests. I'm going to talk to Hraal Cziernos about it in a bit. She seemed to think she might be able to get some information.

Nik: nods

Nik: Can I do anything to help? I mean with anything.

Mikethelas Amathalis: Well, I'm going to be seeing to the wounded.

Falmar Amathalis: And I will need to make arrangements for the casualties, and of course we'll need to see to our guests, to reassure people and keep their spirits up.

Nik: nods

Nik: I think... I did something with my dragonmark, when we were taking shelter. I don't really know, but I could feel something happen.

Falmar Amathalis: Really? Something new? Nikincë, that's fantastic!

Mikethelas Amathalis: Are you feeling all right? It can be draining calling upon them in unfamiliar ways.

Nik: I feel fine, there was just so much happening that I didn't have time to reflect upon it until later.

Nik: But I think I was able to help Lamont and Coifare with it.

Mikethelas Amathalis: We'll have to take some time to look into it. We really don't know what all your mark can do.

Nik: nods

Falmar Amathalis: I'm so proud of you, and thank the gods again you were able to help your friends.

Nik: I will help you if I can, Mother, if you need any assistance with handling the guests.

Falmar Amathalis: Thank you, that would be most appreciated. I suppose we shouldn't leave them to stew unattended.

Mikethelas Amathalis: We should take a moment this evening to say a prayer for the dead, and of thanks for the living, but, yes, we have work to do for the moment.

Mikethelas Amathalis: You did very good, Nikession; we're both very proud of you.

Nik: blushes, smiling

Nik: I just wish there was more I could have done to help.

Nik: I should practice my archery more, or ... or something.

Mikethelas Amathalis: You've got plenty of years to work on it.

Nik: but I want to help people now...

Falmar Amathalis: You will be. There are many ways to serve your people.

Mikethelas Amathalis: She's right. I haven't picked up a bow in earnest in...decades.

Falmar Amathalis: And I can't remember the last time I wielded a sword in truth.

Nik: sighs a bit

Nik: but you did when you were my age?

Mikethelas Amathalis: smiles sympathetically.

Mikethelas Amathalis: Different circumstances. But maybe you can go train with your cousins for a bit when the season is over, hmm?

Nik: maybe...

Falmar Amathalis: frowns at that, but doesn't say anything.

Falmar Amathalis: A consideration for another time, my dears. Our guests await.

Nik: Yes, mother.

Mikethelas Amathalis: Yes, my love.

Nik: will go with her to help deal with calming down the guests

Coifárë Brings Lamont to Mikethelas For Treatment

Mikethelas Amathalis: is seeing to the wounded in 'hospital' wing, presumably just after his scene with Nik and before his scene with Rose.

Lamont: will come in and look around, on his own two feet with some assistance from Coifare, looking bloody and a bit singed

Mikethelas Amathalis: looks up and waves the two over towards an empty bed.

Mikethelas Amathalis: What happened?

Coifárë: One of those little fiery goat demons got a cheap shot in.

Lamont: yes, that

Mikethelas Amathalis: frowns and nods, and begins checking Lamont over.

Lamont: I would rather return to the fight if possible....

Mikethelas Amathalis: I think you're out of it for now, and I'm told the fight is essentially over, Lord Stillmarch.

Coifárë: (to Lamont) You're in good hands here. I'm going to go help with the prisoners.

Lamont: pauses and nods

Lamont: Very well...

Coifárë: will squeeze Lamont's (unwounded) arm for a long moment, looks like they might say something more for a second, nods, and leaves.

Lamont: also looks like he might wants to say something more, but will pat their hand instead and just add a 'please take care'

Mikethelas Amathalis: Well, this is certainly more acute care than you needed before you arrived. I hope you'll be able to visit someday in a fully healthy state.

Lamont: waits until they are gone, and then turns back to Mikethelas

Mikethelas Amathalis: tries for joviality as he gently sees to Lamont's wounds.

Lamont: I hope so too, your grace, though somehow I find this easier to bear

Narrator: (Maybe not joviality. Geniality?)

Mikethelas Amathalis: Oh?

Lamont: It's painful, but that all..my energy remains, for which I can thank you, I believe

Lamont: But also, if I am off the field, then I believe I have something to return to you, as well

Mikethelas Amathalis: does not look surprised at that.

Lamont: will remove the shield

Lamont: I can return it to its more pristine state, if you prefer

Mikethelas Amathalis: smiles softly.

Lamont: I hope you take no offence at my use of it.

Mikethelas Amathalis: I'll make sure it's seen to, but you can hold onto it for the moment. I do rather have my hands full.

Lamont: nods

Mikethelas Amathalis: It was used in defense of my home and my own blood. I cannot imagine a better use.

Lamont: yes, your grace

Lamont: it was my honour to do so

Mikethelas Amathalis: We are not in Highmark. Mikethelas is acceptable, curiate if you prefer.

Mikethelas Amathalis: You have my thanks.

Mikethelas Amathalis: I'm given to understand you were able to utilize the shield to its full extent.

Lamont: nods

Lamont: yes, the once, at least

Mikethelas Amathalis: I believe that is the usual limit.

Mikethelas Amathalis: And you did so in getting my son to safety, I'm told. We are in your debt.

Lamont: Not at all, your grace

Mikethelas Amathalis: I haven't seen it's full use since...well, in some time.

Mikethelas Amathalis: It's no small thing, the attention of the Moonweaver.

Mikethelas Amathalis: Perhaps you should remain on guard.

Mikethelas Amathalis: says the last lightly.

Lamont: ...

Mikethelas Amathalis: This may sting.

Mikethelas Amathalis: applies a salve that does, indeed, sting greatly.

Lamont: nods and will brace himself for whatever is coming

Lamont: will lir down and doze for a bit after he is finished being covered in goo and bandages and whatnot

Rosalie Helps With Treating the Wounded

Mikethelas Amathalis: will be tending to the wounded in a large hall dedicated for such, the area in Therma Alba most like an actual medical facility.

Rosalie: will join him there

Curiate Amathalis?

Mikethelas Amathalis: Lady Doumens, good to see you are uninjured. How may I help you?

Rosalie: I was hoping to assist you here, if you have need? I've developed an interest in herbals, and it would be good for it to be useful

Mikethelas Amathalis: I would welcome any assistance. I'm currently applying cedar, mullein, and thyme sicut vapores ("as vapors") to prevent any Abyssal taint from setting in.

Rosalie: looks intrigued

I had not read of this combination, yet. I am going to have to broaden my reasearch.

Mikethelas Amathalis: They're all cleansing herbs. Cedar is also good for protection, mullein in breaking curses, and thyme helps bring rest. Mullein also aids in clearing airways, so it's made its way into a lot of my workings since my son was born.

Rosalie: nods

Admittedly, my knowledge of cedar is limited to scents, but I am enjoying learning of their other uses.

Mikethelas Amathalis: Yes, my wife is particularly fond of your . She says it reminds her of home.

Rosalie: smiles

Rêves de cèdre, yes! I am especially pleased to hear that. I fought hard for that fragrance. It's the beginning of my project to expand our reach and incorporate scents from other regions.

Rosalie: Anyway, I had hoped I might learn from you, as well. Not now, of course, but in the future?

Mikethelas Amathalis: You are of course welcome here at any time, and I would be pleased to offer you what instruction I can. I do my best to foster good healing throughout the Confederacy, not just in my own home.

Rosalie: Of course! I feel like we can all learn from each other. I look forward to your instruction.

Mikethelas Amathalis: is happy to let Rose help him attend to the wounded for a while, explaining what he's doing and why as he works.

Mikethelas Amathalis: (Later, as they're finishing up for the moment) Lady Doumens, would it be impertinent of me to ask a favor of you after you've been helping me this whole time?

Rosalie: Not at all, Curiate. What do you need?

Mikethelas Amathalis: Given your invitation, you must be at least familiar with my son?

Rosalie: nods

Indeed. Although I have been able to make a more informal acquaintance since my arrival.

Mikethelas Amathalis: I'm glad to hear that. He would be mortified for me doing this, but I was going to ask you to help keep an eye on him during the season. I'm so very glad he's getting the chance to have a normal young adulthood now, but...I worry he's going to rush in and get attached.

Mikethelas Amathalis: And you seem like you have a good head on your shoulders.

Rosalie: smiles a bit

I would take the compliment, though when it comes to matters of the heart, I fear it may be unearned. I'm a bit of a romantic, just...shy, I suppose. But I will certainly do my best to look out for him. I count him as a friend and would hate to see any ill befall him.

Mikethelas Amathalis: You have my utmost gratitude.

Rosalie: Of course. Mikethelas Amathalis: will be tending to the wounded in a large hall dedicated for such, the area in Therma Alba most like an actual medical facility.

Leonora Checks In With Akan

Akan Nabari: will be sitting up in bed in the healing hall.

Leonora: comes in and looks around. She has some slight bruises but isn't in need of serious healing.

Leonora: sees Akan and waves over at him.

Leonora: heads over towards him.

Akan Nabari: looks up and smiles at Leonora's approach.

Leonora: They probably told you to lie down. They always tell you to lie down, even if it hurts more.

Leonora: looks the older man over.

Leonora: You'll be fine.

Akan Nabari: chuckles.

Akan Nabari: I think I'll manage, yes. You look like perhaps you could stand to speak to our host yourself, though, if I can say so without seeming less than gentlemanly.

Akan Nabari: Lord Wengal was most gracious in helping me make my way back to the main house.

Leonora: I'm fine. There are others who need the help more.

Leonora: Tell me, Akan, do you have any sense of how it all started? These cultists, are they the same ones you've been working against?

Akan Nabari: nods.

Akan Nabari: Geyr Erythnul. They think they're Bael Turath come again, the insane bastards, only with worse patrons.

Akan Nabari: We knew some had escaped our raid, but to strike so heavily, so soon, so close to Thantopolis...

Akan Nabari: shakes his head.

Akan Nabari: I'm not sure how they accomplished it.

Leonora: You think they knew you were here, specifically?

Leonora: Was this aimed at you?

Akan Nabari: I'm worried that is the case. Obviously they're no fans of mine, and they sent a particularly powerful demon seemingly right for me. I'd be very curious to learn how they knew I was here.

Akan Nabari: I would hate to think so many people were hurt on my account.

Leonora: I would suggest, if that is the case, that they're not very smart. Given the prominence of Therma Alba, and especially given how many important figures were here, this will attract all sorts of attention.

Leonora: And while I'm sure the attention was the point, the response to this will be ... disproportionate to the relatively minor damage caused here today.

Leonora: I'm sure the proper folks in Nachtur, when they learn of this, will be highly displeased.

Akan Nabari: nods.

Akan Nabari: Across the Confederacy, really, though I know Nacthur has more experience with their like than most.

Akan Nabari: Hraal Cziernos said she would be getting in contact with her people back there as soon as possible to see what they can find out.

Leonora: Magga and I will surely do the same.

Leonora: Is there any evidence of any of the staff here being involved, in advance?

Akan Nabari: I don't know, but Curiate Amathalis said he's going to be looking into it, so you might ask him.

Leonora: I intend to. I feel terrible for the poor man. First event of this sort at Therma Alba in years, and this happens. He must be devastated.

Akan Nabari: I think he and Lady Amathalis are still too livid to be devastated just yet, but it is certainly a tragedy.

Leonora: Well, of course.

Leonora: I may be from Nachtur now, but my family and the Amathalis have a long history. This will not be forgotten or forgiven.

Leonora: Is there anything else you can remember from the attack, that might be helpful in providing some context?

Akan Nabari: That last cultist, the one that you dispatched? I know for a fact she wasn't part of the group at .

Leonora: So they regrouped to somewhere else? And if so, how much of their strength did they send at us?

Akan Nabari: My thought exactly. Not only were they able to regroup with allies, but to do so quickly and within stable Nerathi territory. That's troubling.

Leonora: I don't suppose any of them were captured? It's not like we were prepared for this or able to hold them. We're lucky there were as few fatalities as there were.

Akan Nabari: I believe there are a few. They're being held in the guard barracks.

Leonora: Who is leading the investigation?

Akan Nabari: Hraal Cziernos and the Amathalis's are going to question them, but I'm sure they'd welcome the aid of a Palatine.

Leonora: I will make the offer, of course.

Leonora: I'm glad to see you are well, Akan. Or, well, better than you were a few hours ago when we fought side by side.

Akan Nabari: smiles at that.

Akan Nabari: And I'm glad to see you safe as well...Leonora.

Leonora: I'll check in on you again, I'm sure, before we return to Highmark. I'm not sure by how much our plans will be delayed by this, in any case.

Leonora: For now, I'll let you rest up.

Akan Nabari: I should be happy to see you, and your husband, again before any of us leave. Please give Lord Wengal my regards, and thanks, as I said.

Leonora: Until then.

Leonora: nods, turns, and leaves.

Akan Nabari: smiles, nods, and will watch Leonora leave.

Rosalie Brings Lamont Tea

Rosalie: approached Lamont and rests a hand on his uninjured shoulder

Your grace?

Lamont: 's eyes flick open

Lamont: ... Lady Rose?

Rosalie: nods

Yes. I brought you some tea. It should relieve pain and promote healing.

Lamont: oh, thank you

Lamont: will sit up

Lamont: winces slightly as he does so

Rosalie: assists him with sitting up

Rosalie: I had heard you got caught outside. I was worried for you.

Lamont: nods

Lamont: at the start yes, but we made it to the house, and I set back out with others

Rosalie: nods

That was very brave. And the others you were with, are they unscathed?

Lamont: I believe so, for the most part

Lamont: We did our best to keep the enemies away from Magus Auspex and Coifare is quite competent with their spear....

Lamont: I was doing quite well, for a time >.>

Lamont: but I suppose if the others are well, I have done my part.

Lamont: says, partly trying to reassure himself, you'd guess

Rosalie: Well, you did just recover from being ill.

Lamont: nods

Lamont: I suppose so, though I did feel quite recovered.

Lamont: you are putting your herb studies to good use, then?

Lamont: will try whatever tea she's given him

Rosalie: smiles I'm learning, which I do enjoy.

Lamont: I'm sure your assistance here is greatly valued by many, as it is by myself

Lamont: has a round (slightly singed and bloody) shield by his side also

Lamont: I am sorry but I thikn I must put you off once again, regarding our planned walk...

Rosalie: laughs lightly

I should think an attack is a good excuse.

Lamont: yes. Perhaps when we are both back in the city, we can try again. I would still like to see that museum....

Rosalie: smiles

I would enjoy that. And you must know you are always welcome at Harcourt, should you wish to visit.

Lamont: nods

Rosalie: Third time is the charm, as they say.

Lamont: thank you. You and your brother have been very kind to me, and I appreciate your friendship

Rosalie: Of course. Smiles

Chitara and Rosalie Talk

Rosalie: will be mixing up medicines

Chitara: comes in to join in with a polite nod

Rosalie: nods back and smiles

Rosalie: How are you doing?

Chitara: Oh, alright. Glad to be keeping busy. And yourself?

Rosalie: Very much the same. I am glad to see you made it through unscathed.

Chitara: Oh, and the same to you! I can't tell you how relieved I was when we found you.

Rosalie: sighs

And I, you. I know I have you to thank for my brother making it to safety.

Chitara: Honestly, he kept up with me much better than I expected

tiny cheeky grin

Rosalie: laughs lightly

Rosalie: He takes direction well. I've been working on him since birth.

Chitara: Well, you are an excellent teacher. Takes orders and has good instincts in a crisis? I'd take that any day

Rosalie: Thank you. We worked on the instincts. Mostly it was via pranks, but the result is what matters.

Chitara: laughs

Well, I can't argue with the results

Rosalie: tilts her head slightly

And how is that going?

Chitara: Pretty well, I think. He's pretty good at being domestic, for someone apparently disinterested in the idea

Rosalie: Ah, yes. We did not have the best models for domestic bliss, perhaps there is a bit of novelty in it.

Chitara: You know, you might be on to something there. Who doesn't enjoy a bit of novelty?

Rosalie: smiles

Variey is the spice of life.

Chitara: laughs

Is that a thing people say here?

Rosalie: Some, yes. The interesting ones.

Chitara: It's a vivid metaphor, I like it

Rosalie: Good. I am glad to hear it's going well. Hopefully, I'll be helping to plan a big party soon. With your permission, of course.

Chitara: Oh, of course! I'd love your help. I have no idea how those sorts of things are handled here.

Rosalie: It'd be my pleasure.

Chitara: I'll look forward to it.

Victorina and Chitara Discuss Sebastien

Victorina: ---Hours later---

Chitara: Chitara is kind of chilling in a corner by the outer door, trying to both avoid attention and avoid people noticing she's worn herself out a bit

Victorina: Victorina will sit beside her, offering a glass of wine. "Here, your boy toy says the vintage is good."

Chitara: She smiles and takes it. "Oh, thanks. I could definitely use a drink."

Victorina: "Just..." she hesitates, "I apologize, I'm not sure how to ask this without offending you."

Chitara: "Go ahead, we're friends after all. I trust your intentions."

Victorina: "Well, just how serious is your relationship with Seb?"

Chitara: "I take it you're not a fan?" She looks amused. "I know he seems like an odd choice, but he's sweet and honestly I am under orders to marry someone with a Mark, ideally someone human, to try to strengthen our case. Seb is a pretty good choice for that."

Victorina: Victorina rests her chin on one hand. "I don't know him as well as you so maybe I'm missing something. I was sent over here to marry as well. But I have no intention of doing so. Let me be a spinster."

Chitara: "Truthfully, if it weren't for the cause I'd likely do the same. But... politics make things complicated"

Victorina: "Politics make everything complicated."

Victorina: "Do you at least like him enough to spend your future with him?"

Chitara: Chitara considers that carefully. "It's early days, but I think so. He's sweet, willing to follow my lead, and... not inclined to possessiveness."

Victorina: "Well, all we can do is hope it stays that way."

Chitara: "He also comes with an excellent sister, which is a bonus. I'd like to be able to enjoy my in-laws."

Victorina: "Also a fair point."

Chitara: She sips her wine with a tired smile. "I had considered Coifare, but they seem to have interests elsewhere I could not compete with."

Chitara and Sebestien Talk and Find Some Wine

Sebastien: will come find Chitara a little while later

Chitara: has migrated out of the cellar to a parlor where she's lounging and trying to snack

Sebastien: There you are my dear - I got a little swept up there for a bit but it seems like everything is settling down and under control now

Chitara: smiles at him

Oh, hi. Yes, seems like things have settled down. Thanks for having my back with all of that.

Sebastien: Well, of course - you just seemed so sensible about the whole thing, who woudln't listen to that?

Chitara: Well, I do have a knack for keeping my head in a crisis, I suppose. But we make a pretty good team.

Sebastien: Yes, I quite think so! I'm glad we were spared the worst of it. I understand that some people were caught out in the gardens or in the pools. I suppose being a late sleeper can be a good habit after all.

Chitara: laughs

Yes, it would have been inconvenient to have been bathing naked. I think some folks here might've keeled over from shock if we were stuck running around naked

Sebastien: Hmm, well yes I suppose there's that as well, but I'm afraid their fates were worse than being seen indecently :/

Chitara: ... Ah. I didn't realize we had found casualties. Victorina made it to us from the baths, I'd hoped the others had likewise found safety.

Sebastien: i'm afraid not, though I'm given to understand that we had several stalwarts among the guests who helped beat them back, or it could have been much worse!

Chitara: Yes, we were lucky that we had so many warriors staying here. It could have been much worse.

Sebastien: yes, lots of chatter about what happened and why - this close to Thantopolis is quite a daring target! I heard they were some kind of cult.

Chitara: A cult? How strange. I assume that's not common here?

Sebastien: Well, I'm not sure. I guess they've been around a while, popping up every so often and causing trouble all over the place. Especially in Nachtur I suppose. No religious fanatics out your way?

Narrator: (There very much are, Gale)

Chitara: Theoretically? But I'd never run into any of the summoning demons to attack a random place variety

Sebastien: Well, I assure you it is a first for me as well!

Chitara: That's good, at least

Sebastien: I suppose, from certain perspective, however I'd rather have continued my streak

Sebastien: mues

Chitara: smiles wryly

Well, I would have as well. This was all a lot more exciting than I was expecting from a house party at a healing spa

Sebastien: Mmmm, yes. I think they're giving all the staff some time to pull themselves together, but the pools are still available if you might like to find one to relax a bit after all that? I see you've managed to find a glass of wine but I expect I can rummage us up a full bottle?'

Chitara: Um... if we can find one that hasn't just had corpses pulled out of it?

Sebastien: Oh yes - there can't be so man of those, I'm sure we'll be fine.

Chitara: Alright then, I could use a hot bath. It's been months since I've used this many spells in a day.

Sebastien: Well then - I think you have certainly earned a little rest, or whatever else ou might like in tribute ^-^

Chitara: laughs and grins

Well, the two of us and a bottle of wine? I'm sure we can find some interesting ways to relax

Nik and Coifárë Talk About Love and Lamont

Nik: will take the opportunity after Lamont dozes off to get up and try to fix his hair with whatever Lamont has on hand for a comb ;)

Coifárë: will just be lounging idly in bed, variously watching Nik and looking at Lamont wistfully.

Nik: comes to sit by the window and work the tangles out

Coifárë: (elduar, of course) Do you want some help?

Nik: oh... if you like, sure!

Nik: says, also in elduar

Coifárë: will get up with a characteristic lack of self-consciousness and come over to help Nik.

Coifárë: How are you feeling? It's been quite a day.

Nik: I'm .... I'm not sure. I feel good, of course, but it's just been a lot to think about.

Nik: What about you?

Coifárë: sighs, and leans forward to kiss Nik's shoulder.

Coifárë: Right this moment, I feel very good indeed.

Coifárë: In a broader sense...as you said, a lot to think about.

Nik: I wish this hadn't happened when... when Lamont seemed like he was doing better.

Nik: Now he's hurt again and everything seems like it's a mess.

Coifárë: I think he still is, all things considered. I still have my concerns, but...I think he's turned a corner.

Nik: you think so?

Nik: asks hopefully

Coifárë: Before, it seemed like he felt there was no way out. Now, he seems more ready to find the path.

Nik: I hope you're right. But what do you think that path looks like? For us?

Coifárë: smiles softly, though Nik can't see.

Coifárë: Which 'us' do you mean?

Nik: I don't know. I don't know what you want, or what Lamont wants... I know this is nice, but I don't know how long it can last.

Coifárë: I think that's the question, going from here: what do each of us want? For myself, I also agree this is nice, and I would like it to continue, but...

Coifárë: stops combing for a moment, looking away.

Nik: hm?

Nik: looks over his shoulder to look at you

Coifárë: I worry that I can't give what either of you might want.

Coifárë: I mean emotionally, of course. Otherwise, I'm more than capable.

Coifárë: smirks.

Coifárë: Or, not even emotionally, just...

Coifárë: sighs.

Nik: turns more fully around to face you

Nik: What is it you're worried we want?

Coifárë: I think Lamont wants a commitment, something official or...binding.

Coifárë: Maybe not right this moment, but at some point.

Coifárë: And I...want everything. I want to taste and touch and feel and love and...

Nik: nods, listening

Coifárë: looks down at their hands where they're holding the comb, avoiding Nik's gaze.

Nik: I think... there are different kinds of love, and I don't think Lamont would want to bind you into a kind you weren't happy with. I can't speak for him, obviously. But ... maybe it's good that there are three of us, if it means we can be different things to one another when that's what we need.

Nik: Maybe that doesn't make any sense, I don't know... I'm new at this.

Coifárë: looks up to smile at Nik.

Coifárë: Every love is different, so we're always new at it.

Nik: smiles at that

Nik: I'm sure he cares for you and he wouldn't want to hurt you.

Coifárë: I don't want to hurt him, either.

Coifárë: And I'm worried I'm going to, when he's already been through so much.

Nik: if he needs something like a commitment, then... maybe I can give him that?

Nik: if he wants that, I mean...

Coifárë: Nik...do you want a commitment?

Coifárë: From me or Lamont, but I'm sensing more from him...

Nik: I know I'm young, and everyone is going to say that I shouldn't decide on something like that so quickly. And if everything was perfect we could take time and not rush into things, but everything isn't perfect, so...

Coifárë: will reach over to take Nik's hand.

Coifárë: Nik, those sound like explanations and reasoning for how you feel, but it's okay to just feel a thing.

Nik: but it isn't as though I just met him, I really have known him for several years now, even if just through letters...

Coifárë: There are successful matches based on much less.

Coifárë: Even for our people.

Nik: Then... yes. I want that with him.

Coifárë: will let go of Nik's hand so they can hug him.

Nik: hugs you back

Nik: I don't know you as well, but I do care for you, you're so wonderful and kind - I know I wouldn't want to get in the way of what you and Lamont share, and so maybe... well, it's not that I would insist on having him all to myself, you know? Not that it's my place to say, at any rate, but I like you a lot.

Nik: stumbles over his words a bit, trying to express himself

Coifárë: pulls back, a big smile on their face.

Coifárë: Nik, it's okay. I care for you, too, and I want you and Lamont to be happy.

Coifárë: It's all right for us to all have different feelings for each other, and, if you want to be with Lamont, to marry him, I will happily do whatever I can to help you achieve that.

Coifárë: I like you a lot, too.

Nik: I just... don't want it to become a situation of jealousy or competition or anything like that. Or for people to think that's what's happening...

Coifárë: Well, people will think what they want to think, we can only do so much about that.

Nik: nods

Coifárë: But, for my part, I don't feel competitive or jealous with either of you.

Coifárë: Just...happy.

Coifárë: Worried, sometimes, and earlier today, terrified, but mostly happy.

Nik: I don't want you to feel like you are less important. I just... would like for you to be happy and to always feel loved and welcomed no matter what.

Nik: But here I am speaking as though everything is settled ... Lamont does get a say too, I suppose 😉 I shouldn't be so presumptuous.

Coifárë: laughs.

Coifárë: You should probably talk with him about it, yes.

Coifárë: Though I think he's in a place to actually consider it this time.

Coifárë: And he'd be a fool to say no.

Nik: blushes at that

Coifárë: As an aside, I think neither of us can ever teach him Elduar. It's way too fun to be able to talk around him.

Nik: laughs

Nik: I will try to talk about it with him tomorrow, maybe...

Nik: it seems like after we leave here everything will go back to being so much busier again, and then maybe it will be more difficult to find a good moment >.>

Coifárë: nods.

Coifárë: Well, then, I look forward to celebrating when we get back to Highmark.

Nik: if we wake him up we can celebrate more right now... 😉

Coifárë: I mean, I'm not going to say no to that...

Nik Checks on Lamont and They Go to Find Coifárë

Nik: brings Lamont his usual breakfast tray the next morning, maybe a bit sparser than usual given the Extenuating Circumstances, but still a decent meal

Nik: good morning!

Lamont: greets you still in his dressing gown, but also with kiss once the door is closed and the tray is set down

Lamont: Good morning

Nik: kisses you back

Nik: did you sleep well?

Lamont: very well

Lamont: and you?

Nik: I feel very, hmm... invigorated 😄

Lamont: smiles

Lamont: I was thinking after breakfast I could use a bath, if you'd care to join me

Lamont: of course, there's no rush...

Nik: That would be lovely 🙂

Lamont: says and goes to kiss Nik again

Nik: I was hoping we... mmh 🙂

Nik: says, interrupted momentarily by another kiss

Lamont: mmm, sorry, you were saying...

Nik: mm, just that I was hoping we'd get to spend a bit more time together today, even with all that's going on.

Lamont: I'd like that

Lamont: I still need to return the shield....

Nik: nods

Nik: We can do that, I'm sure

Nik: moves a few dishes to set things out for breakfast, revealing the letter

Lamont: will sit down, and then frown as he sees it

Lamont: what's this....

Nik: oh, I don't know. I suppose it came with the morning post?

Lamont: picks it up and looks at it, then sets it down without opening it, his relaxed attitude from before gone.

Nik: what is it?

Nik: asks, concerned

Lamont: It's from my uncle.

Nik: oh.... 😦

Lamont: I'm sorry. I'll look at it later.

Nik: but it's going to worry you until you know what it says

Nik: predicts

Lamont: stands back up to go and put it aside

Lamont: :/

Lamont: will turn away from you and break the seal then. It's short, and doesn't take him long, but you can still seen his tension increasing line by line, so that he is practically shaking by the end of it.

Nik: comes over and puts a hand gently on your shoulder

Nik: what does it say?

Lamont: how....how dare he write such things

Lamont: is just furious

Lamont: thrusts it at nik so that he doesn't just completely crumple it

Nik: looks at the message with a frown

Nik: he's going to ... come get you? why?

Lamont: What does he want

Lamont: shakes his head, uncertain

Lamont: To upset me, to make me feels like like a fucking... child...something more than that as well, I'm sure.

Lamont: 's fists are tightly clenched

Lamont: I'm sorry. I should control myself better.

Nik: You know... you can ignore it. You can pretend you never got it. Mail is so unreliable, maybe it was accidentally lost, who knows.

Lamont: and then what?

Nik: I don't know. Leave before he arrives?

Nik: Do you want to... we could go and talk to Coifare about it? Maybe they will have some other ideas.

Lamont: ...

Lamont: alright.

Nik: hugs you for a moment

Nik: makes sure to gather up the breakfast stuff though >.> food is still important.

Lamont: calms down enough to at leas put one arm around your waist

Lamont: (Like gather it to take with us?)

Nik: (yeah I'm bringing snacks)

Lamont: ...I should dress

Nik: mmm, perhaps

Nik: at least a robe

Lamont: nods, as that's probably the easiest thing, wouldn't be too out of place for here, and also probably he wont need his valet's help to sort it out :p

Nik: (so we can head over to Coifare's room I guess?)

Lamont: tries not to let frustration get the better of him, and can pull together somethig Acceptble

Lamont: (yeah, probably we can get directed there)

Coifárë: will be having breakfast next to the window of their room overlooking the garden.

Lamont: will mostly follow Nik, as he's not entirely sure where we are going.

Nik: taps at the door

Nik: good morning! can we come in?

Lamont: vaguely wonders if they'll even be there...

Coifárë: Come in!

Coifárë: is in a light morning robe, but not dissimilar from what they've been wearing around Therma Alba anyway.

Lamont: follows in after Nik

Coifárë: Oh, well, this is a nice morning surprise.

Lamont: 's mood is probably pretty evident

Coifárë: Or...not? What's happened?

Coifárë: stands up to come to where the two of you are.

Nik: sets down the tray somewhere

Nik: Lamont got a letter from his uncle...

Lamont: nods, as Nik beats him to the punch

Coifárë: frowns.

Coifárë: What did it say?

Lamont: Just show them.

Coifárë: will take the letter and look over it.

Coifárë: What the hells is this?

Lamont: It's just his typical......

Lamont: can't think of the word, and shakes his head, waling over to the window

Coifárë: So...you never got this, right?

Lamont: huffs

Coifárë: You can just head back to Highmark before he gets here?

Nik: That's what I said! it would be easy enough for a letter to have gone missing with all the confusion here. We could just leave...

Lamont: to what end?

Lamont: asks, turning back to the others

Lamont: Shoudl I rush back to Highmark and see him sooner?

Coifárë: Well, we'd already talked about finding ways for you not to go back to Griffin's Crest just yet.

Nik: nods

Nik: maybe you don't have to go back there?

Lamont: looks between the two of them, because he was not actually part of that conversation (afairemember)

Coifárë: You have options, is what I'm saying.

Coifárë: Just because you're in Highmark doesn't mean you have to be where he is.

Nik: we wondered if you could be "appointed" as a guard for the Ahkasic delegation, maybe now more than ever after all that happened? Or if you don't want to do that, there might be other options.

Coifárë: nods at what Nik just said.

Lamont: appoint - appointed by who? What for?

Nik: for their protection, but really to get you out of the house for a reason he can't really argue with?

Lamont: what... why woudl I be protecting the akhasic delegation?

Coifárë: Why wouldn't you, if they asked? It'd be a diplomatic honor.

Nik: Chitara would be in on it, of course - it wouldn't be a problem. but like I said, if you don't think that's a good idea, there could be other places you could go instead of home.

Lamont: It's... not so simple

Lamont: and I can't just avoid him forever

Nik: no, but maybe if he's planning something, doing something different than he expects will throw him off

Coifárë: And it doesn't have to be forever, but getting some breathing room seems like a good idea.

Coifárë: Therma Alba has been a necessary retreat, yesterday's events notwithstanding, but this would be...an advance along a different front, let's say.

Coifárë: smiles.

Coifárë: You're a cavalryman; it's a flanking maneuver. 😉

Lamont: 's face shows a complicated mess of emotions at that, but he nods

Lamont: There's no telling if he does have anything planned, other than to distress me.

Nik: well ... then doing what you want instead of what he wants is probably a good choice

Nik: what would you want, if you could just go anywhere?

Lamont: I don't know. I'd rather have stayed here, but he's poisoned that notion...

Nik: 😦

Lamont: I could go....to Stillmarch, I suppose, but I expect the staff would notify him promptly.

Nik: it would take him time to reroute and travel there, though, surely? And ... maybe I could ask my parents to delay him here a bit too, although I'd have to do it carefully...

Coifárë: Oh, yeah, there's an idea.

Coifárë: Surely they'd want to show him the proper hospitality.*

Nik: nods, looking to Lamont

Coifárë: (elduar)Especially if they had arrangements to make...

Lamont: was about to speak but glances at Coifare instead

Lamont: ...

Lamont: It would require careful timing. Stillmarch is between here and Highmark. There's a portal, but not from the manor.

Nik: (in elduar) I didn't get to ... say anything about that yet...

Coifárë: shrugs, but does make sure to make significant eye contact with Nik for a moment.

Coifárë: It's a quick enough ride back into Thantopolis from here.

Lamont: nods

Nik: maybe just for a couple of days? and then back to Highmark? leave him following in your trail.

Lamont: anything longer term would take some time to arrange...

Coifárë: nods.

Lamont: ...Would you come with me?

Nik: of course

Coifárë: Gladly.

Lamont: thank you.

Nik: and I will ask my parents to ... agree that no letter arrived, and delay him a bit if they can.

Lamont: I already owe them so much.... please convey my gratitude

Nik: of course

Nik: gives Lamont a kiss

Lamont: kisses back, trying to relax

Nik: let's have breakfast and then I can go talk to them...

Coifárë: smiles.

Lamont: nods, but will probably just pick at fruit unless more thoroughly cajolled or enticed.

Coifárë: will go track down Nik after they're done helping out with whatever they can.

Nik: has been helping his mother with getting various logistical things sorted out to make guests more comfortable

Coifárë: will try to get Nik's attention without interrupting.

Nik: sees Coifare and smiles with relief, coming over to talk to them

Nik: Are you all right?

Coifárë: smiles softly.

Coifárë: I am. I came to tell you - there's no need to worry, but - Lamont was injured while we were rescuing some guests and staff.

Coifárë: He's fine!

Coifárë: will interject quickly.

Coifárë: Your father is seeing to him.

Nik: looks worried, but nods, trying to not freak out too much

Coifárë: Just some minor cuts and burns. I thought you'd want to come with me to check on him.

Nik: Yes, please - if it's not any trouble? I don't want to bother him if he's trying to rest, but ... maybe just to check on him?

Coifárë: smiles and will offer their arm.

Nik: will take it gratefully

Coifárë: will head back to the convalescence hall with Nik.

Coifárë: How are you doing? I'm glad to see both of your parents are all right.

Nik: I'm all right, I suppose... just a little shaken up. I'm trying to focus on what I can do to help, to keep busy, so I don't think about it so much.

Coifárë: will pat Nik's hand on their arm with their off hand.

Coifárë: If you need to talk, or just be distracted, I'm here.

Nik: Thank you... and thank you for helping look after Lamont. He is... well. maybe he needs the extra set of hands.

Coifárë: chuckles at that.

Coifárë: brings Nik to the convalescence hall.

Nik: will look for where they have put Lamont to recover

Lamont: is trying to be a good patient and just rest

Nik: rushes over to his side once he spots him there

Nik: Lamont, are you all right?

Lamont: sits up when you approach

Lamont: Nik! Yes, I'm alright.

Lamont: My shoulder is a little sore still

Nik: Lie down, it's okay, you don't need to get up...

Lamont: but that may be the salve

Lamont: sihs, and will lie back down

Nik: Coifare is here too...

Lamont: they are?

Coifárë: walks up behind Nik.

Lamont: looks around for them, sitting back up a little

Coifárë: I went to let him know you were here once everything settled down.

Lamont: smiles and will lie back down when he sees them

Lamont: Thank you

Coifárë: smiles.

Coifárë: How are you feeling?

Lamont: better, seeing you both. I wish it were somewhere more private...

Nik: well, if you are ... somewhat recovered, we could take you back to your room. It might not be a bad idea for you to remain another day or two.... for a full recovery.

Coifárë: Yes, for a full recovery.

Lamont: I feel it sh1ould be more restful, in any case. And I'm certainly not against the idea...

Lamont: or remainig, I mean.

Nik: Do you need a hand? Getting up?

Nik: I mean. If you want to go to your room, that is.

Nik: says a bit hastily

Lamont: I'm sure I could manage it, but I will not turn away your aid. I woudl like that very much

Coifárë: smirks.

Coifárë: (in Elduar) Smooth.

Coifárë: pats Nik's shoulder affectionately.

Lamont: notices their smirk

Coifárë: Shall we, then?

Nik: sniffs with lightly wounded dignity and says 'I'm doing my best.' in Elduar

Coifárë: (E) I'm teasing. You're doing just fine.

Lamont: looks between the two of them

Nik: offers his hand to Lamont

Nik: Oh... the shield is still here. I guess we can take it back later...

Lamont: will take it, but still do his best to get up from the cot with the least assistance

Lamont: Your father said he woudl see to it, but that I should hold it for now...

Nik: nods

Lamont: though if you took it back, I'm sure it would be fine

Nik: I hope it was useful?

Lamont: Extremely

Lamont: will lean over carefully to retrieve it, and his sword

Coifárë: Saved both of us, multiple times, I'd wager.

Lamont: yes, I would say.

Nik: Oh... that's good, but also terrifying.

Nik: I'm glad you are safe. I was worried about you both.

Coifárë: Speaking of keeping us safe...did you...do something before we left the chapel?

Coifárë: Things were so hectic at the moment that I didn't sense it until later, but it felt like dragonmark magic.

Lamont: I wondered...

Nik: I think I did. I don't really know what it was, but I could feel it drawing on my mark. It was something that helped you?

Coifárë: Absolutely. I felt...invigorated, which I initially chalked up to...well, I think you know.

Lamont: nods

Nik: blushes

Coifárë: looks around conspiratorially.

Lamont: ...shall we go, then?

Coifárë: And, I mean, that did help on its own.

Coifárë: Oh, right, yes, of course.

Nik: I feel like it's my fault you were caught out in this.. if we had not been walking in such out of the way paths, we might not have run into the

Nik: says as Lamont gets ready to go

Coifárë: If you two hadn't been out on the paths, I would have been caught alone in the chapel.

Lamont: Not at al, Nik. It was at my invitation.... nd who could have predicted this?

Lamont: nods to Coifare as well

Nik: but you knew, something anyway, didn't you? you brought your sword, and you said you felt uneasy...

Lamont: yes...

Lamont: frowns

Nik: maybe I should listen to you more closely, then. When you say you have a headache, for instance.

Lamont: shakes his head though

Lamont: It doesn't always mean anything

Lamont: will try and move us along so maybe we can talk more freely

Nik: will go with you back to your room where we had breakfast a few short hours before

Lamont: sort of realizes that now he is alone with you both and in his room :x

Coifárë: will stand coyly against the doorframe once you're all inside.

Lamont: It was... very difficult to square my impressions this morning with the setting, in any case, until it wasn't

Lamont: I am so glad that you were both there

Nik: your impressions... told you there was some danger?

Lamont: yes

Lamont: it was so vague at first

Lamont: I think it must have gotten stronger as they actually approached the estate

Coifárë: That's very powerful, but...it sounds like it's hell on your nerves, Lamont.

Nik: Especially if what you sense doesn't always come to pass? You said it doesn't always mean anything when you feel like that?

Lamont: I don't have very much experience with such extreme situations. It was like an ambush but... more

Lamont: I don't know if I've been in a situation like that where something hasn't come to pass of its own accord...

Lamont: I just meant. I have headaches often enough. They can't all be related.

Nik: Mmhmm...

Coifárë: Well, rest can help with that, at least some.

Nik: nods

Lamont: nods

Nik: are you feeling like you need more rest at the moment?

Nik: we could certainly get you into bed.

Lamont: ...

Lamont: blushes

Coifárë: smirks at that approvingly.

Lamont: I... I'm not sure...

Nik: no?

Coifárë: I mean, we can let you rest if you like...

Nik: I don't want to impose on you, if you would prefer...

Coifárë: will step up to put their arms around Nik from behind.

Coifárë: I mean, we don't want to overtax you.

Coifárë: reaches up to brush Nik's hair away from his neck, keeping eye contact with Lamont.

Lamont: I don't know.... no I do know what I would prefer

Lamont: I...

Nik: if you know what you want, then why not?

Lamont: I'm just.... afraid. It's foolish. I don't want either of you to go.

Nik: then that's easy, we'll stay 🙂

Lamont: nods

Nik: in all the commotion I doubt anyone will note our absence.

Coifárë: People are occupied; I'm sure we can find ways to occupy ourselves.

Coifárë: says in between kissing Nik's neck and glancing over at Lamont.

Lamont: I would.... like that @_@

Nik: makes sure the door is locked, just to be sure.

Lamont: will, after another moment’s hesitation, come and join them the way we did...
