Summary

Session date: 2023-03-04
In Game date: 9 days after the masquerade

Nik, Coifárë, and Gueiris meet to discuss the former's concerning letter about Lamont. They decide to see if Nik's father can get in to see him and if they can perhaps get him away to their estate at Therma Alba. Gueiris also suggests spreading rumors about his uncle, in case he really is trying to usurp his ward and might get cold feet. Nik and Coifárë go to start this endeavour by talking to the Doumens and Leonora.

Leonora spies Duke Harcourt and his sister across the room. The parties make their introductions, including Yadda, Leonora ('s husband)'s niece. They discuss the game, and the duke invites Leonora to come visit. They discuss the absent Marquess of Stillmarch and are soon joined by Lord Evenor and Colmacil Vilyawén. They make further introductions and discuss Nik's outlandish hat before Sébastien slips away to the betting tables. Evenor once again brings up the topic of Lamont, and mentions he has been ill. Rosalie excuses herself and the discussion breaks up.

Katherina and her sister talk about the game and (of course) boys, until they are interrupted by a real live one! Gueiris stops by their family booth, and the sisters press him for stories of his adventures, until Katherina decide to give him and her sister a chance for more private conversation. She interrupts them again before anything more intimate happens - or their mother returns!

Leonora locates her husband and they have a family tête-à-tête with Yadda, discussing their new acquaintances and Yadda's expectations for the season.

Coifárë brings Victorina to meet some nobles (Ardith Aethlin, Vedran Callais, and Aleyn Harrowden) with connections to some of the churches in the city who may be able to help her spread her cause, and to carry a letter to Roscoe, the god at Shom, to curry his support as well.

Rosalie and Sébastien discuss her disinterest in the game, their family situation, and Lamont, whim they decide to try and visit.

Coifárë and Leonora meet up again and discuss how the season is progressing, including Lamont, Magga, and Yadda, with a suggestion that Nik might be good company for her, and that Coifárë could help her explore the city.

Nik asks Coifárë about their relationship with Lamont, and then spills about what happened when they were trapped together while out riding and his feelings.

Juno Morticia Auspex stop in to see Lamont with urgent paperwork that requires his personal approval, nd is concerned fro his health.

Nik badgers his father to look in on Lamont. His father is granted the opportunity to examine him, and slips him a secret note from Nik. Overall, he is also pretty concerned, and tells Thurston to consider bringing him to their healing springs to recuperate.

Session

Introduction

Narrator: The Windsday the week after the Sehanine Masquerade marks the beginning of the Highmark Foosball Association Council's Cup Tournament (usually just called the Council Cup). Thirty-two teams from around Highmark and its territory compete for the Council Cup trophy, and the best players are likely to go on to play for Highmark's team in the Nerathi League, the Highmark Hydras. The tournament will last through the end of the week, culminating in the championship game on the following Moonday.

Narrator: (Foosball is a game something like American football with weapons and magic, an 11 on 11 skirmish ostensibly focused on getting a ball into the opponents' goal)

Narrator: Favorites this year include FA Rocksprings, the Dawnridge Drakes, and the Undertow Hellhounds (affectionately called the Underdogs).

Nik, Coifárë, and Gueiris Discuss Lamont' Situation and Possible Solutions

Nik: is mingling around the area, wearing a vibrant violet jacket, cravat, and slim grey trousers. He has also acquired, somewhere, a noisemaker and festive hat.

Gueiris: spots Lord Evanor in the crowd and navigates to meet him. Guieris is wearing black trousers and navy jacket with silver buckles. The outfit looks warm, but the heat does not touch him.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will be making the rounds in a seafoam jacket, vest with a subtle leaves pattern of embroidery, and cream trousers. They have accompanied this with a gold cravat showing their support for the South Crown Royals. Their hair is their natural green today, and they're sporting their normal gold eyes.

Gueiris: Lord Evanor, I'm glad I could run into you.

Nik: oh, hello there, Lord Kyrnon!

Gueiris: waves Coifare over

Gueiris: I must admit I found your letter, concerning. Since I have tried to visit the Marquess, but he is not taking visitors.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: makes their way over.

Nik: Yes, I found the same when I tried to pay him a visit. I hoped maybe it was just that perhaps... I had offended in some way and he didn't want to see me, but if it's everyone...

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Lord Evenor, Kyrnon, I was hoping I'd get a chance to see you both today.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: You're talking about Stillmarch?

Gueiris: nods

Nik: Yes, I'm worried about him..

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Or, honestly, Lord Evenor, I hope you won't find me too forward I we dispense with titles?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I'm worried about Lamont as well.

Nik: certainly, that's fine! I'm on a first name basis with Lamont AND his horse.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: smiles.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Briar is a good girl. I hope she's also doing all right after your adventure.

Nik: I think so? At least, as far as I could tell, but I am far from expert in such matters.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: nods.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Did I hear correctly you both tried to visit Lamont and were turned away?

Gueiris: I was hoping you could elaborate on what you said in your letter. Specifically on how ill he was when you last saw him, and the concern regarding his uncle.

Gueiris: Yes. We had plans for further training, which Lamont never showed.

Gueiris: So after the letter, I enquired about him at his home.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I had a similar experience. I sent a note, but didn't receive a reply, and was told he wasn't taking visitors when I called in person.

Nik: Oh, well, yes, I can try to. My father is a healer, and he examined Lamont, and felt that his illness was serious but not severe - that he should recover with a bit of rest. So it did not seem like such a grave illness that he could not receive visitors, at any rate.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: frowns.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: You mentioned Lamont had some concerns in regards to his uncle?

Nik: looks a bit more uncertain at this, but nods

Nik: We have corresponded for some years, and I know that he and his uncle have often had their differences. From time to time, Lamont has indicated more than a usual degree of apprehension about his uncle's behaviour towards him. While he was feverish, he seemed afraid to even return to his house.

Nik: I don't know... perhaps I am reading too much into it.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I think we can afford Lamont the favor of taking him at his word, illness aside.

Gueiris: Tensions at home could help explain the stress he's obviously been under lately

Nik: I thought... well, perhaps it's a foolish idea. but I thought if we could get in to see him, somehow, or get him out, that we would know if he was truly just unwell, or if there was some bigger problem.

Nik: I tried writing to his mother, as of course she would have more right to demand to see him, but I don't know if she will be able to respond in time.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: nods.

Gueiris: That would be the most legitimate means of gaining access

Nik: but she is not in Highmark, so it might not be possible.

Gueiris: That leaves less legitimate means

Gueiris: frowns

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Yes, I called on her when I stopped in Mythragal on my way to Highmark, and I believe she has her hands full with Fritz's schooling at the moment. There's no telling how soon she could get here.

Nik: If we cannot gain access ourselves, perhaps... I could ask my father to call on him. It might be more difficult to turn him away, due to his rank and reputation, and we could try to get a message to Lamont that way.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Perhaps some sort of invitation that would be difficult for Lamont to refuse or Lord Thurston to gainsay?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: That would also work, at least for the moment to assess Lamont's current state.

Nik: and as he did, at least, briefly, treat Lamont, he might have some reasonable interest in following up to see that he is recovering?

Nik: He could even issue an invitation for Lamont to come to my family's estate at Therma Alba to recuperate, if his illness is serious.

Gueiris: It would let us know if we need to take additional actions.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: nods.

Nik: So... you don't think I'm overreacting? My father seemed to think that it was nothing out of the ordinary.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Your father is less familiar with the situation than the three of us.

Gueiris: Lamont has been off about something. I dont think he would cut off communication willingly.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: He's clearly been under a great deal of stress, and while he has a tendency to withdraw into himself, this feels extreme.

Gueiris: hmmm... in the meantime, we could try and have hints dropped about Lamont's absence, imply his uncle is trying to usurp his fortune... put pressure on him to make Lamont available?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I'm amenable, if you don't think that will cause Lamont further headaches.

Nik: already people are whispering that his illness is extremely grave, that he is practically at death's door.

Gueiris: so it wont be hard to swing the conversation the way we need

Nik: it was nothing more than a chill caught while out in the rain too long. If he was of a sickly constitution, perhaps, but Lamont is quite hearty, it should be nothing he couldn't shrug off with a couple days of rest.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: nods.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Giving all the more reason to admit a renowned healer like your father.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: It sounds workable.

Gueiris: it would be good to have a public conversation... someone outside of our group bring it up with Nik, to have him counter.

Nik: I'll try to bring it up if I have the opportunity.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I heard Lamont called upon the Doumens last week before your ride. Perhaps one of them might ask about him unprompted?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Or with little prompting, at the least.

Gueiris: I saw their box was occupied.

Nik: Perhaps, yes, that could work.

Gueiris: Have either of you met the Doumens?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Nik, have you had the pleasure? Perhaps we could introduce you...

Nik: I have not!

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Well then, we shall have to remedy that, won't we? 😉

Gueiris: I'll leave that to the two of you. A pair is a happy coincidence. A trio is a scheme.

Gueiris: Say hello for me.

Nik: Certainly. Thank you, and we'll let you know what we're able to determine.

Nik: (did we want to barge over into room 1? 🙂

Coifárë | Vilyawén: (to Gueiris) Are you out of the stockade just yet? Perhaps I'll see you at the club later?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I think I saw the Feigrsteinn box occupied, by the way, if you're making the rounds. 😉

Gueiris: I was planning on going over to the Feigrsteinn box... I've escaped the stockades, but I still need to be careful.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Ms. Allement should be around here somewhere as well, if you think you can avoid a scene.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: (to Nik, offering their arm) Shall we?

Nik: will take Coifare's arm

Coifárë | Vilyawén: *will lead Nik off into ic1, I believe. 🙂

Leonora Introduces Yadda to Sebastien and Rosalie

Leonora: has just grabbed a glass of wine and is standing in the shade against a column, watching the preparations for the match. She is wearing a high-necked teal sundress with three-quarter length sleeves, and is adorned with a gold necklace of almost-impossibly-cut clear crystals.

Sebastien: is wearing a suit with a waistcoat and hatband in the colours of his favourite team, the Underdogs, currently escorting his sister to pick up some refreshments

Leonora: spies Duke Harcourt from across the room, and acknowledges his presence with a slight nod.

Rosalie: is arm in arm with her brother, looking around the crowd

Sebastien: nudges his sister when he notices

Yadda: is hanging behind Leonora, trying to stay in the shade and looking both bored and anxious at the same time

Sebastien: Rosie sho is that?

Rosalie: Hm?

Rosalie: looks at where he's pointed

Rosalie: Oh, that is Lady Wengal.

Sebastien: probably just nods back to Leonora rather than pointing, he does have manners (just no sense)

Rosalie: Lady Leonora Wengal.

Sebastien: Oh, lady Leonora - should we go say hello?

Rosalie: seems distracted but nods

Rosalie: Sure, brother.

Sebastien: will steer her in that direction, then

Sebastien: (to Rose) Everything alright?

Rosalie: gives him an airy smile

Rosalie: Of course, I was just looking for... it doesn't matter. Shall we?

Sebastien: Righto!

Sebastien: will smile at Leonora, as we approach

Leonora: Ah, Duke Harcourt and Lady Rosalie, how good to see you here.

Sebastien: Good day Lady Wengal! so good to see you!

Sebastien: Well I wouldn't dream of missing the first day of the cup :)

Yadda: shrinks back a bit behind Leonora.

Leonora: Naturally. I don't know all these Highmark teams. But in Nachtur, the Knights are the new craze, and I have to admit I've become a bit of a fanatic.

Leonora: And please allow me to introduce you to my niece, Lady Yadda.

Leonora: nudges Yadda forward a step with her foot deftly.

Yadda: will curtsy to Sebastien and Rosalie

Rosalie: Pleased to make your acquaintance, Lady Yadda.

Yadda: My Lord. My Lady.

Sebastien: Oh - your niece you say? Very pleased to meet you, Lady yadda.

Leonora: Yes, it's her first season. First event, actually. She was still in transit and just got in yesterday morning from Nachtur.

Yada: Pleased to meet you as well, My Lord.

Rosalie: I sympathize, Lady Yadda. My first season was a whirlwind, and I forever felt out of depth.

Leonora: Duke Harcourt and I never properly met, years ago when I was young and unmarried, though I think we may have been intended to be introduced. Never in quite the right moment, I suppose. We were all young and new to this, once.

Leonora: The Doumens family are very important here in Highmark, and His Grace is one of the key scions of that clan.

Sebastien: Oh yes and really I think the match ought to be quite a lot of fun for a first time out! If you havent' picked a tea I simply must argue in favour of the Hellhounds. They've got some really remarkable players this season.

Leonora: Hellhounds, you say? All right, I'll bear that in mind. Lord Wengal keeps up more on the local developments, and I'm sure will be at the betting parlor.

Sebastien: then I expect I shall meet him there :D

Yadda: Aren't they from Undertow? I understand that is a rather... lower scale...neighborhood.

Leonora: I suspect your grandfather spent a lot of time in Undertow, once upon a time.

Rosalie: Sebastien adores an underdog.

Sebastien: They are! Wonderful fighting spit=rit, I say. I have been a fan since my uncle took uus to meet the players when I was younger.

Yada: blushes slightly at that

Leonora: And you, Lady Rosalie, are the Hellhounds your team as well?

Rosalie: Oh, I'm a bit of an oddity in this, I'm afraid. I don't follow any of it.

Leonora: Oh, I completely understand. If not for my husband I'd be the same way.

Rosalie: laughs

Rosalie: It's the same with my brother.

Leonora: They are remarkable to watch, though, even if you don't understand the game that well.

Sebastien: Well its not for lack of instruction - I'd think she's humoring me to be here today, but I think she might be otherwise distracted!

Rosalie: He gets so enthusiastic, it's hard not to enjoy.

Leonora: Enthusiasm is a quality much to be desired in many pursuits.

Leonora: How has your season been so far, Your Grace?

Rosalie: eyes Leonora a little

Sebastien: Grins at Leonora's remark

Sebastien: Oh, well, I've been enjoying myself, trying not to get too distracted with Parliament nonsense to enjoy myself, you know ;)

Leonora: Ah, are you working on anything of interest at the Parliament? I do try to keep abreast.

Sebastien: Oh, nothing particular, its just getting started I suppose.

Leonora: I see.

Leonora: In Nachtur, there is always so much work to be done. So much has been done, you'd be amazed - but so much still that requires constant attention.

Leonora: It's exciting, but coming from the old Thantopolitan families, where things move rather more glacially, it's a big change. But Lord Wengal and I find it amenable to our personalities.

Leonora: You should visit sometime.

Sebastien: Oh yes, my uncle has been saying the same thing for years - I suppose I should!

Yadda: The city has indeed changed a lot since I was a child.

Rosalie: It can be a bit difficult to keep up with the change, I'm sure.

Leonora: Here, too, things have changed though. For my husband's people, for certain, since the last time I was here. But also just in general.

Sebastien: nods Yes, it does seem that way, yes, you see such a mix of people all throughout the city. Rather fun, I think!

Leonora: Does your family still have an estate in East Crown, Your Grace? I seem to recall, perhaps wrongly.

Sebastien: Oh, we're in the West, actually!

Leonora: Ah, apologies. West, East, so many crowns.

Sebastien: Four of them! :D You should come and visit - Rose is always saying we needs more social connections, eh Rosie?

Rosalie: You would be most welcome.

Leonora: We are taking a modest place in Laurel Grove called Inglenook, while we're here. It's lovely, full of flowers and old architecture in the neighbourhood.

Leonora: Forgive me if this is impertinent, but are either of you familiar with the Marquess of Stillmarch? I had hoped to see him here today, but haven't spied him.

Rosalie: We are, yes. We took tea this past week. I had thought to see him today as well, but I have been unsuccessful.

Sebastien: Oh Stillmarch! No, I haven't seen him I'm afraid.

Sebastien: I think we were meant to go riding?

Rosalie: nods

Leonora: Ah, pity.

Rosalie: Indeed. I was hoping to speak to him about our museum visit.

Sebastien: Oh yes that's right - speaking of uncle Derenn, eh?

Rosalie: nods

Sebastien: I believe he said he could be available for that

Rosalie: It certainly aligns with his interests.

Leonora: takes this all in, trying to figure out who is in charge.

Leonora: Hmm, I see.

Sebastien: Well of all involved I should hope ^-^

Sebastien: In any case - should we encounter the Marquess, I'll let him know you inquired after him."

Leonora: Thank you, Your Grace.

Nik and Coifárë Join the Conversation

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will lead Nik over to where Leonora, Yadda, Sebastien, and Rosalie are.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Duke Harcourt, Lady Wengal, Lady Rosalie, how nice to see all of you. Have you met Lord Evenor?

Nik: bows politely, while holding his ridiculous hat

Rosalie: I have not! A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lord Evenor.

Leonora: Lord Evenor, a pleasure.

Leonora: smiles warmly.

Leonora: What a charming chapeau.

Yadda: eyes Nik's hat and supresses a giggle.

Nik: Oh, thank you! There was a vendor outside and I simply could not resist.

Leonora: Naturally.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I think it's eminently festive, my lord.

Leonora: Please allow me to introduce you all to my niece, Lady Yadda Wengal.

Leonora: She has just arrived in Highmark yesterday.

Sebastien: Oh yes, I quite like it - I have one like it somewhere, but Rose will never let me wear it, so I must compromise!

Nik: good day, my lady!

Yada: will curtsy again.

Yada: Good day, my Lords

Rosalie: elbows Sebastien lightly

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will take Yadda's hand and give it a kiss with a rakish look.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: The pleasure is ours, my lady.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: gives Leonora a sly wink.

Yada: will blush and smile genuinely

Coifárë | Vilyawén: How are you all finding the festivities?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: (to Sebastien) Your grace, you simply must wear it. You could set a new trend.

Sebastien: chuckles I shall keep that in mind, my Leid - if I can find the thing!Sebastien: And so far its quite exciting, though I should try to get to the betting before the match gets underway

Rosalie: says softly to Sebstien Try to stay in budget this time.

Sebastien: pats his sister's hand reassuringly, but doens't make any promises

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Is Lord Wengal joining us today, my lady?

Leonora: Yadda, Lord Evenor, like you, is here for the first time. His family, like my own, is from Thantopolis.

Yada: Oh. How are you finding the city, Lord Evenor?

Leonora: Yes, Lord Wengal is here. He is with some of his friends, surely placing some clever bets and talking endlessly with those who know the fine details of the foosball teams here.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: *will avoid paying too much attention to Sebastien and his sister's exchange, propriety's sake. Likewise, his exit.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: An avid fan, is he?

Stillmarch: (still here but probably about to leave ;)

Nik: It is quite an exciting experience! There is certainly much to discover.

Sebastien: A clever gentleman - perhaps I should go and say my hellos now - what do you think ROse, are you in good company here?

Rosalie: nods Of course. Have fun, but not too much fun.

Leonora: I'm sure my husband would get along famously with you, Your Grace.

Yada: I have not yet had the time to see much of it. I only arrived here this week.

Sebastien: Wonderful - Good day to you all, and welcome to the city, Lord Evenor and Lady Yadda! I hope you have a most wonderful time.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Your grace.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: nods politely as he exits.

Nik: Thank you, sir!

Sebastien: And to the rest of you as well - enjoy the match! will bow politely and slip away to the betting

Yadda: Good day,Your Grace

Coifárë | Vilyawén: He certainly seems in high spirits, Lady Rosalie.

Rosalie: laughs

Rosalie: You know him, my Leid. He does love his games.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: (leaning over to say more quietly to Rosalie) If only they returned the affection as ardently.

Rosalie: sighs Indeed.

Nik: I say, have any of you happened to hear from Lord Stillmarch recently?

Leonora: How strange of you to mention that, we were just discussing that topic. I had hoped to see him here today.

Rosalie: My brother and I had tea with him last week. I was hoping to see him enjoying the festivities, as well.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Oh, is he not attending? I'd hoped he was well enough to show.

Leonora: Oh, is he ill? I hadn't heard.

Rosalie: looks concerned Well enough?

Nik: Yes, he was taken ill after he and I went riding together, but I didn't think it was so serious that he would be laid up for several days.

Rosalie: Oh dear. I will have to see if my brother and I can take a basket around.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: That was some days ago, though, was it not?

Nik: Yes, four days ago. Well, five, if you count from the day we set off on our ride, four from our return?

Rosalie: My. Well, I shall have to send an inquiry. I should hate to think he is ill.

Leonora: I wrote his uncle shortly after the Sehanine masquerade.

Nik: oh, are you previously acquainted, Lady Wengal?

Leonora: Yes, I know Mr. Allard from years ago, I think it was my second season here in Highmark? He is older than me, of course.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Of course.

Leonora: The Marquess lost his father when he was just a child, and Mr. Allard has been his guardian since, I believe.

Rosalie: A familiar tale.

Nik: Yes, it's very sad. Of course I am sure that Stillmarch's uncle is looking after his best interests, but in such tales, that isn't always the case....

Nik: leaves that hanging

Rosalie: looks thoughtful

Rosalie: Well, in any case, I am pleased to make your acquaintances, but I must find my brother and make sure he isn't getting into too much trouble!

Leonora: A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lady Rosalie.

Rosalie: will make her polite exit

Nik: A pleasure to meet you, Lady Rosalie

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Good luck, Lady Rosalie.

Lavinia and Katherina Talk About Boys... Again.

Lavinia: is in her family's private booth with her sister, watching the game excitedly in a sky blue dress ribbons and a large, elaborate hat.

Katherina: leans out over the edge of the booth, peering towards the court with her opera glasses "Oh I just love Foosball...

Lavinia: smiles and leans over as well.

Lavinia: For once we are in complete agreement!

Katherina: the uniforms alone.. oh my!

Lavinia: rolls her eyes.

Lavinia: Of course that's what you would notice, Kitty.

Lavinia: You have no appreciation of anything finer than a well sculpted backside.

Katherina: Oh so you knw just what I'm talking about I see ^-^

Lavinia: sticks her tongue out at you.

Katherina: it's not just that, though. watching hem put those backsides in motion is quite thrilling. And it just looks liek so much fun, even when the sparring turns more serious....

Lavinia: It's so thrilling! It's what I imagine it must be like for the adventurers. All that excitement and danger!

Katherina: Yes! Sometimes I think that would be such a delightful life, seeing so many fascinating parts of the world, having all kinds of adventuress.... Much better thanwatching from up here, that's for sure.

Lavinia: sighs wistfully

Lavinia: I imagine Lord Kyrnon has had many such adventures.

Katherina: I bet he'd take you on an adventure >:D

Lavinia: Kitty! You shouldn't joke like that.

Katherina: Oh, you don't think he would?

Katherina: asks with complete(ly false) innocence

Lavinia: I don't even know if he's truly interested in me as more than a curiosity. I don't know why he would be.

Katherina: there you go, underestimating yourself again. I suppose he might be here, maybe you could see him?

Lavinia: Without a chaperone?

Lavinia: Really, Kitty

Katherina: And we can judge his tastes a little better - see if he is rooting for a proper team ;) A little like Lord Evenor and his novels, I think ^-^

Lavinia: I swear, sometimes I have no idea what you are talking about.

Katherina: And pfft - mother is around if you're concerned, but you talked to him at the ball unattended... didn't you? >>:D

Lavinia: That was... different...

Katherina: Oh was it? Please do tell me how so ^_^

Lavinia: Well... It was only for a moment. And he caught me unawares...

Katherina: Long enough to form a complete infatuation!

Lavinia: blushes deep, deep red

Lavinia: I am not!

Katherina: There's nothing wrong with an infatuation, especially with an eligible young man, you know. You don't need to be so defensive about it.

Lavinia: I am not being defensive!

Katherina: laughs

Katherina: You are though! has a single other gentleman, even among your fiances past, ever piqued your curiosity so?

Lavinia: sighs deeply.

Lavinia: It doesn't matter.

Katherina: Lord Algernn was quite well travelled as well, so it can't just be that.

Katherina: And why not?

Lavinia: Because there's no possible world in which someone dashing and handsome like Lord Kyrnon would be at all interested in someone as plain and boring as me.

Katherina: You never know what someone might prefer in a match, Vinnie. You can't read his mind.

Lavinia: I suppose that's true. After all, some of us find even ancient elven fossils to be worthy matches.

Lavinia: supresses a grin.

Katherina: laughs again Oh Vinnie, I just said I'd like to kiss him, not *marry him. No thanks to that!

Lavinia: Kitty, I would dearly love to see the man or woman you WOULD care to marry.

Katherina: Well I hardly see the point in worrying about it just yet.

Lavinia: You may not, but I can assure you that mother will. As soon as I'm married off she'll be onto you next.

Lavinia: It might behoove you to head her off at the pass, so to speak.

Katherina: Just one more reason I don't think you should be in such a rush :V Think of your poor sister!

Katherina: puts her hand to her forehead dramatically Force to marry - I should simply perish instead!

Lavinia: I half believe you would!

Lavinia: Just to spite mother

Katherina: Oh Kitty - I just thought of a fun game. I shall name three gentleman and you must make a choice for each - which to marry, which to have an indiscretion with, and which one should simply perish. It's just a game though.

Lavinia: Kitty! That's horrid!

Katherina: Okay! Your gentlemen are.... Lord Kyrnn.... Lord Evenore... and Councillor Callais ^-^

Lavinia: I shall not be part of such... iniquity!

Katherina: Well then... if you won't take it... I shall have to, hmmm.... have in indiscretion with Lord Kyrnon - very sorry Vinnie, but just to test his resolve to you, you see - then Marry lord Evenor so that you can still be with your true love after he's come to his senses and renounced me, and we shall then have to kill Lord Callais and destabilize all of Highmark ;)

Lavinia: You are a wicked child. I really don't know where you get it from.

Lavinia: It has to be from Father's side

Katherina: I'm hardly wicked. I'm not really going to try and have an indiscretion with Lord Kyrnon just to test him. You know that right? if you do like him - or anyone else, you just need to tell me, that's all. And I will be the very best sister.

Lavinia: sighs.

Lavinia: I know that, Kitty. For all the trouble you get into, you've never been anything but the best and most loyal of sisters.

Lavinia: I don't tell you that enough, perhaps.

Katherina: Well, I know it, so long as I am reassured that you do, That's enough for me.

Lavinia: Besides, if you so much as looked at Lord Kyrnon wrong I would suffocate you with ganache. Rose flavoured.

Katherina: laughs

Katherina: *What about Lord Evenor then? Completely out of the picture?

Lavinia: Lord Evenor is nice enough. He would make a fine husband, I'm sure.

Katherina: But for you?

Lavinia: I would not complain.

Katherina: Hmmm... is that damning with faint praise?

Lavinia: No, certainly not. He is a pleasant enough person, and handsome in his own way, I suppose. I believe he would be a perfectly... acceptable.

Katherina: shakes her head

Katherina: I though he was quite handsome - very elegant, in fact!

Lavinia: Oh?

Lavinia: Did you now?

Katherina: well I do have eyes Vinnie! But I had thought you were taken with him... I suppose all pale - no offense to Lord Evenor - when compared to one's heart's truest desire, though!

Lavinia: He certainly seemed more taken with you.

Katherina: Is that it? Because we both like novels?

Lavinia: Marriages have been built on less

Katherina: demoted to 'acceptable' on account of having... well. Middling tastes in books?

Lavinia: Well, middling taste in siblings, perhaps.

Lavinia: grins.

Katherina: hah!

Katherina: See, now you're showing some spirit. but see, there, I cannot tell where your disposition truly lies with him. Are you angry that he might favour me because of an interest of your own?

Lavinia: I... I'm not sure if I know myself.

Lavinia: Certainly of the two he would be the sensible choice.

Katherina: Is he?

Gueiris Shows Up and Gets a Few Moments Alone With Lavinia

Gueiris: spots the sisters in their box and will wave to announce himself and start to come over

Katherina: He's young, and elven, and - OH Vinnie!

Lavinia: 's eyes go wide all of a sudden

Lavinia: Lord Kyrnon!

Katherina: waves

Lavinia: I.... wasn't sure if I would see you here today!

Gueiris: Hersir, It's good so see you. I take it, that this is your sister?

Katherina: curtseys

Lavinia: Yes, My Lord. May I present my sister, Katherina Whitbottom Orsino.

Gueiris: It is a pleasure to meet you. I do hope I am not disturbing your conversation. You both seems very engrossed.

Katherina: No Not at all, you interruption is most welcome into our little sisterly squabbles

Lavinia: Oh, no, not at all! We were just discussing... sports.

Katherina: I have heard of you, and am quite pleased to meet you, my lord!

Gueiris: Hopefully nothing too scandalous. I'm not nearly as brutish as some may say I am.

Lavinia: Brutish? Who would say such a thing?

Katherina: Oh, not brutish at all I shouldn't think.

Katherina: giving him a good look over

Lavinia: Have you been enjoying the game, my lord?

Gueiris: I didn't realize you had such a keen interest in Foosball.

Stillmarch: (has it actually started yet?)

Lavinia: Oh, I find it very exciting! I don't really have the head for numbers and statistics like some who follow the sport, but I do love the drama of it.

Katherina: Yes, we were talking about how exciting it must be to play. have you ever done anything like it?

Gueiris: I've played some games when I was traveling with the company. A nice distraction during down time, and good to keep some skills sharp.

Katherina: It seems like so much fun - but what is the company you speak of?

Gueiris: Your sister never told you? I spent years traveling with my parents mercenary company before they passed, and several years afterward.

Lavinia: I imagine you must have had all sorts of adventures, travelling that way.

Katherina: She told me you were well travelled but not that you were a mercenary :D

Gueiris: Its given me the opportunity to experience many places, some more exciting than others.

Katherina: Well you must tell us some stories! I believe we have some refreshments in our box.... though our MOther is no doubt retuning soon, so you will have toi get the most exciting ones out of the way first ;)

Gueiris: The skills of House Maranue are not best left idle...

Gueiris: I would not want to impose.

Gueiris: looks to Lavinia

Lavinia: No, please!

Lavinia: I mean... you are more than welcome

Gueiris: Thank you

Gueiris: Before we get into stories, I would like to accept your offer of a carriage tour. My cousin, I guess now, my sister, Jazlyne would join us, as chaperone, if that is acceptable. She is married and most respectable.

Lavinia: Oh, of course, My Lord. That would be wonderful

Katherina: oooooh

Lavinia: nudges her sister discretely in the ribs.

Gueiris: As for stories... what would you like to hear more about... exotic landscapes, interesting cities, or dangerous encounters?

Katherina: Oh! I just mean, when Vinnie mentioned riding earlier, I thought she jad men on horses - or ponies I suppose...

Katherina: And Vinnie you must pick.

Lavinia: Oh, ummmm.... dangerous encounters, I suppose! That sounds quite thrilling!

Gueiris: Such things can be thrilling... the heart pounding, events whirling about you, peals of thunder from magic bursting around you.

Gueiris: They are also very serious, and sometimes tragic.

Lavinia: listens raptly.

Gueiris: The Company, we were known to be capable. Most times when we were hired, it was to prevent battle.

Gueiris: Many times, such skirmishes just end when to the two sides meet and realize the cost... in money and lives, just isnt worth it. They find a was to talk it out.

Katherina: sensible I suppose.... but that can't always be the case....

Gueiris: shakes his head "no"

Gueiris: Too much invested to walk away... too much idealism or pride.... sometimes you just have to fight.

Katherina: Have you ever lost a fight, my lord?

Gueiris: I've been injured before. We've had to withdraw when ambushed or ordered to by our employers.

Lavinia: Oh! You've been injured?

Gueiris: I have a few scars, yes.

Gueiris: I'm young and I have a few unique tricks that I've have helped manage to avoid any lasting injuries.

Lavinia: Did your parents teach you to fight, My Lord?

Gueiris: Both my mother and father trained me.

Gueiris: saddens

Katherina: how exciting....

Gueiris: I do miss them dearly

Lavinia: Oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to... bring up old wounds.

Katherina: Oh - have you lost them both? I'm so sorry, my lord, I was unaware :(

Lavinia: I should not have asked.

Gueiris: You have done nothing wrong. It was several years ago.

Gueiris: It was always going to have come up eventually.

Lavinia: We lost our father as well, not long ago.

Gueiris: I do appreciate your concerns.

Katherina: Oh, well - perhaps you should tell us a happy story about the then :)

Gueiris: That is hard for both of you, as I know all too well.

Gueiris: I will, if you will do so of your father afterward.

Lavinia: Oh, I can certainly tell you about him, although I am afraid I'm not much of a storyteller.

Gueiris: I'm sure you are as eloquent in voice as in writting.

Katherina: yes - don't let her undersell herself, my lord! She has quite a talent for it, and needs to surround herself with whose who will correct her, and lift her up as she deserves.

Lavinia: glares at Katherina.

Lavinia: I certainly don't need anyone lifting me anywhere, sister.

Gueiris: is glad his skin already has a red hue

Katherina: smirks But where are my manners? We promised you some refreshments - excuse me for a moment please, then I shall expect that story!

Lavinia: will look back as Kitty skitters away and then turn back to Gueiris, blushing slightly.

Katherina: busies herself elsewhere in the box for a bit

Lavinia: Ummm... I am glad to see you today... Gueiris...

Gueiris: I'm enjoying being here with you... even if my words have been a little grim.

Gueiris: I know that is not what I am feeling.

Lavinia: Oh....

Lavinia: What... what are you feeling, then?

Gueiris: boldly takes her hand

Lavinia: glances around but does not stop him.

Gueiris: I'm feeling that you make it easy for me to me, to enjoy conversation...

Gueiris: ... I look forward to talking to you.

Lavinia: I feel that... simply listening to your voice... everything around me disappears.

Gueiris: I may have traveled much already, but this... this is not something I have experience in.

Lavinia: My Lord... I have been engaged twice now, and I still have just as little experience in... whatever this is. I know that I'm not brilliant or courageous or stunningly beautiful... but I find myself hoping that whatever meager charms I do possess.... are enough to interest you.

Gueiris: I guess we just blunder together then

Gueiris: smiles

Lavinia: will take his hand in both of hers smaller ones.

Gueiris: (Monologue) How did I let myself fall like this? This feel so nice. She is kind, pretty, and honest. I have to try to follow through. Stop thinking that its too good, too right, fits all the needs of your family, and gives you an out from your aunt, that it can't be true. Do the work to make sure its real.

Lavinia: I... I would like that.

Katherina: coughs politely Goodness Vinnie! Do you think I should get out enough for mother as well?

Lavinia: will jump and pull her hands back as if shocked.

Lavinia: I... Kitty.... I was just...

Gueiris: moves his hand back

Katherina: Well - here we are - and an extra glass just in case ^-^

Lavinia: turns deep red in the cheeks

Katherina: returns with a tray of drinks Of course Vinnie made all the snacks so you can be sure they're extra delicious!

Lavinia: Oh... ummm... yes.

Lavinia: Please, help yourself, My Lord.

Katherina: passes out drinks to all, in a regular sized glass for Gueiris just what we needs, hmm, a little drink to cool off before the match starts ;)

Gueiris: Thank you

Lavinia: Yes it's... a bit warm today.

Leonora, Magga, and Yadda Discuss Family Business and Prospects

Leonora: takes Yadda off to their box to track down Magga.

Leonora: You did fine, dear. Just fine.

Leonora: says to Yadda as reassuringly as possible.

Magga: will already be seated there, and smiles to see the pair of you enter the box

Magga: Ah, did you manage to find some refreshments?

Yadda: Thank you. I hope I wasn't too awkward...

Leonora: It's the only way you'll become less awkward, putting yourself out in situations like that.

Leonora: Magga, darling, have you bet away all our riches?

Magga: I have been quite restrained, thank you.

Leonora: Very good.

Leonora: We had a lovely conversation with Duke Harcourt and his sister, Lady Rosalie Doumens. Interesting family.

Magga: Oh, Duke Harcourt. He's quite a lively fellow, good fun all around.

Leonora: What were your observations of that interaction, Yadda?

Yadda: As you say, they are very interesting. Lord Doumens seems very... lighthearted. Perhaps a bit too much so. His sister seems much more down to earth.

Leonora: Yes, I rather suspect that the gods have blessed one of the two Doumens with acumen.

Yada: Is he really as bad as all that?

Leonora: Oh, I couldn't say. Merely that Lady Rosalie seems to control the purse, and to guide her brother's fortunes. Sad, really, that they do not seem to have an older relative to guide them both.

Yada: He seemed sweet, at least.

Leonora: He seemed perfectly genial.

Leonora: I did drop your grandfather into the conversation, so at least those who might be interested would be able to make the connection. He's quite well-known here in Highmark.

Magga: That's certainly the case.

Yadda: Yes, but is it in a good way?

Leonora: Well, let's put it this way. If there were a serious suitor, which I don't necessarily expect this year, and I sense that perhaps you don't either - they're going to have an opinion on Pop-pop's activities.

Leonora: If they don't, they're not serious, and are simply looking to play with you. Perhaps to say they've tupped a bugbear. And we don't want that, now, do we?

Yada: blushes.

Yada: Ummm... no.

Leonora: So it's better to get ahead of it. Let the ones who can't imagine being part of this family select themselves out.

Yada: But isn't the point to... entice suitors?

Leonora: There will be some other, perhaps a social climber, someone truly ambitious, who will see your family ... our family - not as a weakness but as an absolute asset.

Leonora: And that person, or their family, we want them to know who you are.

Magga: Now, dear - you don't need to scare her quite that badly. Let her have a bit of fun in her first season.

Leonora: Well ... your uncle is quite right about that, too.

Leonora: You are very young, and your grandfather and I are in agreement that my role here is simply to show you around and get you comfortable this season.

Yadda: I still don't know why I couldn't have stayede in Nachtur...

Leonora: You may end up finding a partner in Nachtur, in time. But even then, it will be of immense value that you have been here, that you know this place and its strange workings.

Leonora: You're a clever young lady and someone with a lot to offer a marriage - someday.

Yadda: It's just... very strange here.

Leonora: Enjoy yourself, enjoy the foosball - and keep your eyes open.

Leonora: The strangeness is part of the point.

Leonora: We use it - and by we, I mean, the old families - to exclude those who don't understand or can't manage its mysteries.

Yadda: I'll try to learn what I can.

Leonora: Lord Evenor seems like someone who you could get to know. The quiet sort. Good Thantopolitan family.

Yadda: Did he seem a bit eccentric to you?

Leonora: Evenor? You mean with the hat?

Yadda: nods.

Leonora: I wonder whether his friends set him up for it. Colmacil Vilyawen has a sense of humour.

Magga: Well, if one can't dress a bit eccentrically at a foosball match, where can one?

Yadda: Vilyawen... Was that the one who was very... dashing?

Leonora: Yes, dashing indeed.

Leonora: They're quite popular, as I understand.

Yadda: Very handsome as well...

Leonora: Coifárë is ... yes, that's well noted, dear.

Leonora: A perennial attendee of such events.

Magga: chuckles to himself

Leonora: Oh don't tell me you wouldn't, given the chance!

Leonora: scolds her husband lightly.

Magga: Attend their events? I could be tempted.

Leonora: Let's stick to foosball for the time being.

Magga: Yes, darling.

Leonora: A bit concerned about Stillmarch, though. Apparently he's ill? I may have to rethink some things.

Yadda: Rethink what?

Leonora: Ah, that's a longer story, not to worry. Nothing to do with you, dear.

Yadda: appears a bit confused but does not pry further.

Leonora: I know a lot of this is confusing, Yadda. But it's all ephemeral, gossamer and ornament.

Leonora: All these people have the same insecurities as anyone else.

Coifárë Introduces Victorina to Some Old People

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will continue to mingle in the nobles' common area, sipping some lemonade, when they spot Victorina.

Narrator: (What's Victorina up to at this point?)

Victorina: Victorina has been wondering the area in a tasteful suit and wearing a sash across the front reading, "Rights for Ebenmar" and sipping some kind of drink.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: approaches, smiling.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Ms. Allement, you look well. Are you enjoying the games?

Victorina: She's silent a moment before responding. "I'm not very familiar with...foosball, I think it's called? I suppose it's enjoyable for those who like that kind of entertainment."

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I take it you're more inclined here towards other matters?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: nods towards Victorina's sash.

Victorina: She straightens her pose, adjusting the jacket while doing so. "Of course."

Coifárë | Vilyawén: smiles genuinely.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I admire your dedication. To that end, may I introduce you to some people? We discussed previously my helping you with such, and the opportunity presents itself.

Victorina: She smiles and waves with her drink, "I do remember. Please, lead on."

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will offer their arm and take Victorina over to where she spotted the Harrowden/Callais/Aethelin's earlier.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Councilors Rihtbraeden (Ardith's holding title), Lord Laekseid, Gaath , I hope we're not interrupting.

Narrator: (Presumably some of the younger kids are still around, but I would imagine Mhireen, Saiya, and Macen are closer to the action.)

Narrator: (Sorry, that should have been Councilors Rihtbraeden and Laekseid)

Vedran Callais: Oh, Colmacil Vliyamen, yes> Good day :)

Aleyn: Oh, not in the slightest! Good to see you here, Coifare.

Ardith Aethelin: Good to see you, Colmacil Vilyawen.

Vedran Callais: gives his husband a curious look

Ardith Aethelin: smiles at Aleyn particularly.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: May I introduce Ms. Victorina Allement of Ebemar.

Vedran Callais: Well met, Miss Allement.

Aleyn: Pleased to meet you, Ms. Allement.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Ms. Allement, may I present Prelate Ardith Aethelin, her husband Lord Vedran Callais, and their associate Masque Aleyn Harrowden.

Victorina: She smiles and curtsies as is proper.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will use Ardith and Aleyn's ecclesiastic titles for that (I'm not sure Vedran has an official one?)

Stillmarch: (I don't think he does, no)

Ardith Aethelin: A pleasure to make your acquaintance.

Ardith Aethelin: You're quite some way from home.

Ardith Aethelin: says pleasantly.

Victorina: "Quite. But it's for a good reason."

Vedran Callais: gestures to her sash So I see!

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Yes, Ms. Allement is quite the partisan for her people. I thought she could benefit from making your acquaintance.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: (to Victorina) These three were all instrumental in helping Nachtur achieve its current status as a member of the Confederacy.

Ardith Aethelin: No need to overstate our importance, Colmacil. We each do our part.

Stillmarch: Masque Harrowden's family hails from Akhas as well

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Oh, that's right! I almost forgot.

Aleyn: Yes, well, some of them. I've had the opportunity to visit a few times.

Victorina: "Did you enjoy those visits?"

Aleyn: Oh, certainly! when people weren't trying to murder us, it was great!

Vedran Callais: chuckles Isn't that always the way....

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Lord Laekseid and Masque Harrowden were adventurers in their youth.

Ardith Aethelin: smiles at that comment.

Vedran Callais: Oof, you make us sound Ancient!

Coifárë | Vilyawén: You must forgive me, of course. The arrogance of youth.

Aleyn: chuckles

Vedran Callais: grins It's alright.... I suppose we have children nearly old enough for their first seasons now...

Coifárë | Vilyawén: smiles.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I remember seeing the Thunderbolts trounce the Adventuring Academy representatives at an event not so dissimilar to this back when I was...younger. ;)

Aleyn: Yes, they remind us often enough that we are quite elderly and out of touch!

Vedran Callais: Oh, I hadn't thought about that in ages.... Aleyn were you with us then? I think ... no?

Aleyn: No, that was just before my time, I think, although I was also there in the crowd.

Vedran Callais: nods thoughtfully Right....

Coifárë | Vilyawén: A match, which, if I search my memory, also featured Alek of Ebemar. Ahkas has been present for a lot of Nerathi history for past century and more.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Ms. Allement has been attempting to garner support for her state's recognition, and I thought there might be some to had from ecclesiastic circles, perhaps?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Or any, really.

Vedran Callais: If that's the sentiment in Ebemar, then I'm sure its worthy of support

Victorina: "It's such a pleasure to hear such words from someone of your stature."

Vedran Callais: I admit I'm somewhat out of touch. I usually rely on occasional letters from my cusin, but I think he's been workign on other issues further east.

Aleyn: glances at Ardith as she's usually more in touch with the political nuances of a given issue

Ardith Aethelin: I'm given to understand it's still a contentious issue, but the public mood is has been shifting significantly towards Confederacy membership. Does that sound correct?

Victorina: "I know the people of Ebenmar feels ready to formally join the Confederacy. But I'm feeling some reluctance from the government here about adding new members."

Ardith Aethelin: chuckles mirthlessly.

Ardith Aethelin: That's...an understatement.

Vedran Callais: The confederacy doens't like to change, and it's had many changes forced on it twice in the past ten years already

Vedran Callais: I'm afraid that its only going to increase the resistance for some, especially some of the more conservative houses.

Ardith Aethelin: nods.

Ardith Aethelin: We helped our allies drag the Houses kicking and screaming into recognition of Nachtur, then recognition of Mag Tureah was necessary to end the Fomorian War. Shom, well, it's difficult to argue with a god, even one as nice as Roscoe.

Ardith Aethelin: smiles at the thought of the warforged deity.

Aleyn: I'll never get over the fact that the guy whose face is on the pemmican cans is also a god.

Aleyn: says lightly

Vedran Callais: chuckles

Coifárë | Vilyawén: It's very good, as far as pemmican goes.

Ardith Aethelin: He would be thrilled to hear that, my leid.

Vedran Callais: I think the profits mostly go to the orphanages...

Vedran Callais: looks at his partners We really ought to visit him soon

Ardith Aethelin: I would think he would likewise be in support of Ebemar's recognition, should that be the city's preference. If you'd care to write a letter for direct petition, Ms. Allement, I think we could see it to its destination.

Victorina: She's resisting the impulse to jump up and down like a little girl. "Is there any specific wording I should use in my letter?"

Vedran Callais: Roscoe's not the most formal person - just be honest and clear

Ardith Aethelin: nods.

Aleyn: It can't hurt to mention the pemmican, either.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: gives a small laugh at that.

Rosalie and Sebastien Discuss Events

Sebastien: has been of exceedingly good cheer, as his team is keeping control of the field quite well this half

Sebastien: Just fantastic play! Sis you see that, with the ice elementals? ingenius!

Rosalie: Indeed, quite exciting.

Rosalie: I assume your team is winning, brother?

Sebastien: Well of course they are! Go Hellhouds!

Rosalie: I am pleased to hear it.

Sebastien: frowns You haven't been paying attention at all have you?

Rosalie: smiles

Rosalie: Not really, no.

Sebastien: I wasn't sure why you'd agreed to come, you know - you never seem to care much or these events

Rosalie: Well, I do like to support you. But it was also a good chance to meet new people, too.

Sebastien: Would you care to stretch your legs some? They'll be a show of course, but there's time before that and the next half

Rosalie: If you're willing, I wouldn't mind. I find myself out of sorts today. Some exercise might do me well.

Sebastien: out of sorts? Well I can't imagine how pleasant it would be to read with so much excitement around you...

Rosalie: It's easier than you'd think, but I confess I haven't made as much progress as I usually do.

Sebastien: well what' on your mind, sis?

Rosalie: I was thinking of our circumstances, really.

Sebastien: looks puzzled

Rosalie: smiles wryly

Rosalie: We need to marry at some point, the both of us, you know.

Rosalie: I just wish we had a little more guidance.

Sebastien: Oh Rosie, I know...you always seem to hate it when I press you on it though. As for me, I'm not even thirty. You know Uncle Derenn would give us whatever guidance we requested.

Sebastien: He was quite pleased to hear about your invitation to Stillmarch, I think

Rosalie: Was he? looks uncertain

Sebastien: Yes, I thought so. Mentioned something about knowing his father.

Rosalie: I wonder if he knows his uncle.

Sebastien: his uncle?

Rosalie: Yes. After you went to make your bet, Lord Evenor said the Marquess was ill. I wondered if we might pay a visit?

Rosalie: But Lord Evenor said something that made me curious, too.

Sebastien: Oh no - well that explains why we haven't heard form him I expect.. And of course my dear, just let me know when.

Sebastien: But what did he say?

Rosalie: Something that made me wonder what state we'd be in if Uncle Derenn were not as well-intentioned as he is.

Sebastien: shocking to think!

Rosalie: Indeed. In any case, I would like to visit just to make sure he is well. And I thought I'd call upon my favorite chaperone. nudges him with her elbow

Sebastien: smiles indulgently. Well of course. Just let me know when.

Rosalie: nods

Rosalie: I don't mind talking about these things, you know, or being "pressed" about it. I just haven't practiced this type of social intercourse, so to speak.

Sebastien: Well - that is a change of tune, no matter what you may say! He's apparently made quite an impression. I like him quite well too, you know, though more so if he would play cards again. I tell you Rose that was quite a thing to watch! I'm not surprised to hear he's taken ill, though. He seemed a little peaky even then, though better when he came to tea, hmmm....

Rosalie: Oh, honestly, Seb, I just didn't want you to press him. I don't mind your teasing, but I would absolutely die if you teased me in front of others. Do you think he's often ill, then?

Sebastien: Well I can't say, I hardly know him well. I had heard it said that he's been covering something fairly dire but he seemed eager enough for riding, I didn't put much stock in it.

Rosalie: Hmm.

Sebastien: Perhaps if we visit we can learn more?

Rosalie: nods

Rosalie: That sounds like an excellent idea.

Rosalie: Perhaps you should write him this time. I did it last time.

Rosalie: But I get to read it first!

Sebastien: Oh you think we should write first? I thought you just meant to stop in. But yes, I suppose I could.

Rosalie: Well...would it not be rude to call without invitation?

Sebastien: Well, one of the things I do enjoy about being a Duke, Rosie - sometimes, you can be as rude as you like, and no one can say a thing :D Of course, I can write, if you prefer.

Rosalie: sighs in frustration

Rosalie: I do wish Mother had counseled me more before she left for her travels.

Sebastien: Well... you could try to write her for advice....

Sebastien: he suggests uncertainly

Rosalie: rests her head momentarily on his shoulder

Rosalie: I don't know where she is, Seb. says softly

Rosalie: She hasn't written for a while.

Sebastien: Ahh, yes, I thought so. Sorry, Rosie, but then - well what advice do you suppose she'd even have :/

Sebastien: gives his sister a lil hug

Rosalie: smiles faintly

Rosalie: Well, we shall have to do it for ourselves, as usual.

Sebastien: And look at us - We've done quite well I should say. My looks and your brains, we're unstoppable! :)

Rosalie: laughs

Rosalie: We are, aren't we?

Rosalie: lightly swats his arm

Rosalie: Maybe we could already be out riding and just happen by Stillmarch?

Sebastien: Oh goodness, I shouldn't think so, it's not in the city's stable lands. But do you think they've taken him back to his estate? His address is just in East Crown, isn't it?

Rosalie: Oh. I did not think of that.

Sebastien: This really has gotten you quite worked up then, you always think of everything :o

Rosalie: blushes Well, I've also been a bit busy. We're investing in a new line of parfums for the Season, and I've been working on that.

Rosalie: Well, then, perhaps a note first.

Sebastien: Very well, I shall compose a note once we are returned from the game. And if I don't - please do remind me!'

Rosalie: I shall. Thank you, Seb

Rosalie: Now, what about you? Anyone catching your eye?

Sebastien: grinsOH the season is always wonderful for turning out all the beauties of the nation! There are several who are quite eye catching, for certain.

Rosalie: rolls her eyes

Rosalie: For marriage, Seb.

Sebastien: Oh, well that I'm less sure of, you know there's only so much you can keep in mind at one time

Rosalie: laughs and nudges him Do keep an eye out, Seb, and try to keep it in your mind occasionally.

Sebastien: Just for you my dear, I shall try.

Coifárë And Leonora Discuss Lamont, Yadda, and Magga

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will be wandering around, paying idle attention to the match in progress.

Leonora: sees you across the room and comes up behind you.

Leonora: Well ... hello there, stranger.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: smiles.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Hello yourself.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Having fun?

Leonora: Well, sure. I've only been a foosball fan since the Knights started up in Nachtur, but Magga pays close attention.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: So he's having fun, I take it, if currently occupied.

Leonora: Oh, he's around. As is our young niece, Yadda. This is her first social event ever in Highmark.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: She seemed very sweet. Very polite. You should try to set up more time for her and Lord Evenor to interact. I think they have similarity of disposition.

Leonora: I mentioned him to her, after our talk.

Leonora: Do you have a sense of how serious he is, or how serious his parents are, about setting up a match this year for him?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: This year? I'm not really sure. I rather got the impression their goal is more to get him some experience outside of Therma Alba. I don't think he's had much opportunity for travel or visitation.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: In truth, he seems rather lonely, but a good sort. I think he has a big heart.

Leonora: That's good. Honestly that makes me feel better about having him talk more with Yadda.

Leonora: You understand that her grandfather has a strong personality, of course.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: So I've heard, but I don't believe I've had the pleasure. Is he set on finding her a match this season?

Leonora: No, I think rather the opposite. He knows that he has, in me, a resource to introduce her to the ways of the season in Highmark, things that he, as a youth, could never have dreamed of.

Leonora: My role is not to play matchmaker, but rather to prepare her for making her way in this complex place.

Leonora: She is only just turned sixteen.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: A daunting task for anyone, I'm sure.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Oh, she's practically a child.

Leonora: Quite so. Her height can be misleading.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I hope she's enjoying herself, at least.

Leonora: Today, she is completely overwhelmed. Which is fine.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: It occurs to me that I suggested Lord Evenor's company, but I'd be happy to show her more of Highmark while she's here. Properly chaperoned, of course.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I know the city can be overwhelming to those unfamiliar.

Leonora: Magga himself is spending some time here to ensure he is familiar with things in Highmark, though of course more in the political realm.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: How is that going, if you don't mind my asking? I'm not usually one for politics overmuch, but I was just helping a friend of mine make some connections.

Leonora: Well enough, I suppose. There are still some who won't give him the time of day, but fewer than would once have been true.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: rolls their eyes.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Allow me to apologize at least for my family and countrymen. I know Aethrennar is something of a holdfast of conservative thought.

Leonora: Magga is possessed of immense courage and perseverance. He is not one to be daunted easily. Or, rather, those who would be the daunters, do so at their peril.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: smiles at that.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I wish him well.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: How are you faring thus far in the season?

Leonora: Well enough, I suppose. I have my own matters to attend to, which are of some delicacy.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Your effort to secure an heir?

Leonora: Exactly so.

Leonora: Not nearly so simple as it might seem at first glance.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: No good prospects as yet?

Leonora: Well ... frankly, I had some hopes set on Stillmarch, but if he's ill, that won't do.

Leonora: But all of this, I must insist, Vilyawén, ought to stay discreet enough until the time. This is unorthodox enough as it is without tongues wagging.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Oh, of course. I know I myself may have a reputation for certain indiscretion, but I assure I keep the strictest confidence.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: And I wouldn't discount the marquess just yet. I'm sure he'll recover soon enough.

Leonora: Anyway, he's not the only prospect. But one must be careful with these things. They create attachments that extend far beyond the moment, as much as we pretend otherwise. Or rather, as much as my father pretends otherwise.

Camilla: He's hoping you can accomplish this without a long-term entanglement?

Leonora: I think so, yes.

Leonora: Definitely without a formal entanglement. A one-time payment.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: That's something of a contradiction. A more blooded match would likely want more involvement, whereas a patrician match with less ties would be less likely to provide the dragonmarked heir you need.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Quite the predicament. I'm sorry.

Leonora: I'm sure he knows that. It's obvious, really.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: nods.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Knowing something and taking it to heart are often two different things.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I'm happy to help however I can, but, obviously, this is a truly delicate matter.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: And I'm sadly unable to offer much direct assistance.

Leonora: No, but you might be so kind as to keep an eye out for likely names. My secretary Nenea is excellent, but, shall we say, does not know the intimate conditions of Highmark nearly so well as you do.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I do try to keep abreast of the ins and outs of high society.

Leonora: tries very hard not to giggle.

Leonora: Yes. Exactly.

Nik and Coifárë Discuss Lamont

Nik: will see Coifare again, perhaps at the halfway point of the match as people are taking a break?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will be refilling their drink, maybe something a little stronger this time.

Nik: oh, good afternoon, are you enjoying the match?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I'm enjoying being at the match, certainly. Yourself?

Nik: Well, it's certainly a lot of activity! I admit I am not entirely sure what's happening half of the time, but the half I do grasp is very interesting!

Coifárë | Vilyawén: smiles and nods.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Is your family with you today?

Nik: My father was otherwise occupied, so I am in attendance with my chaperone, but she's... rather easily distracted, with so much happening.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: A fine trait in a chaperone, in my opinion. 😉

Nik: smiles slightly at that

Nik: May we speak in confidence, Colmacil Vilyawen?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Oh course. What's on your mind?

Nik: speaks more quietly so as to avoid being overheard

Nik: About Lamont...

Coifárë | Vilyawén: nods, and will maneuver Nik a little bit away from the crowds, though not to a secluded enough place for it to be remarkable.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: What is it?

Nik: looks rather awkward as he tries to think how best to ask this

Nik: Am I correct that you and he were... close, at one time?

Nik: I am sorry if this is an impertinent question.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: smiles and suppresses a laugh.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Since we're speaking confidentially, yes, Nik, Lamont and I were...close.

Nik: Oh, I see, yes.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Why do you ask?

Nik: Well, when we were out riding, some... things... happened... and...

Nik: seems somewhat at a loss for words

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Oh ho! Things?

Nik: blushes

Coifárë | Vilyawén: asks encouragingly.

Nik: It seems indiscreet to speak of it >.> but... I thought maybe it would be more than that, but Lamont said it cannot happen again, as he needs to, well, focus on his intention to marry.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: frowns at that.

Nik: I only want to ask... is that how he often behaves? or is that ... unusual for him?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: takes a moment to give that its due consideration.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: You have to understand, when Lamont and I had our dalliance, it was at a different point in both our lives, even being not too terribly long ago. I'm inclined to say it is unusual, in that I don't think Lamont is the kind of man to pass time with a person and discard them. He made similar comments as to it being unwise for him to renew our acquaintance at the Sehanine Masquerade.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: looks around over their shoulder to see if anyone is paying any particular attention to the two of them, and will lay a comforting hand on Nik's shoulder.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I believe circumstances have conspired to render Lamont unable to indulge his more gentlemanly impulses, and I'm truly sorry if that's left you in the lurch.

Nik: oh, it was my fault, not his, and particularly now that I know he may already have been falling ill at that time, perhaps he was not thinking at his most clearly....

Coifárë | Vilyawén: nods.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: If you're asking if it's out of character for him to have dallied with you...Nik, you're very beautiful, he's very handsome. It's perfectly natural to appreciate one another in that manner. Corellon made the world beautiful so that we can take in that beauty.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Ahem. So to speak. 😉

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I don't believe either you or he did anything wrong, however much wider society might hypocritically judge.

Nik: Oh, no, I don't think it was wrong either. But... I have little expertise in such things, and it seemed

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Lamont...has a tendency to judge himself most harshly, I think. I wouldn't take it too

Coifárë | Vilyawén: squeezes Nik's shoulder and gives him an encouraging nod before letting go.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: As to expertise, well, that just comes with practice.

Nik: well, it seems as if I shan't have much opportunity to practice, even if he wasn't sick, since he said it

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Lamont isn't the only person in the world, however good a man he may be. 😉

Nik: No, I suppose not...

Nik: But I feel quite affectionate towards him, and I don't know most other people as well as him. I

Coifárë | Vilyawén: You don't know that's true, really. He's sick, for one, and if what he said about his uncle is true...

Nik: Well, I suppose if what he wishes is to be married so he can be at liberty from his uncle, it's quite

Coifárë | Vilyawén: It is a predicament, to be sure. Hopefully we're catastrophizing, but, if not, well, we'll just have to help him as best we're able.

Nik: sounds as if he's been going over these things a lot and has formulated this reasoning to help himself try to feel less bad

Narrator: (Oh, hey, now that I think of it, would you care to monologue?)

Nik: (sure)

Nik: I really do not have any claim on Lamont, even if we have been together in such a way. After all, he's been with other people too and it hasn't meant that he fell in love with them. And if he must marry, then I can't imagine he would want it to be to me, so it's foolish of me to imagine such things. Real life is not a romance novel, and affairs of the heart don't often work out that way, or so it seems. He has more practical considerations to worry about. I should listen to Coifare and turn my attention to others, if that is how things are going to be. I'm sure they know best. But... I can't simply stop my feelings for him so easily as that.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: looks at Nik for a long moment, considering.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: You care about him a lot.

Nik: Yes, well... even aside from all of this, he's the closest thing I have to a friend, and I'm worried about him.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Oh, Nik. I know we haven't known each other very long, but I think its safe to say you have friends.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: But I'm worried, too. We'll all figure this out together.

Nik: I'm glad that it's not just me. I've been so worried the past few days, and... it's a relief to talk to someone else about it.

Nik | Dhuxul | Nary: smiles hopefully

Coifárë | Vilyawén: smiles back reassuringly.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: You, me, Gueiris, we'll make sure Lamont's okay, I promise.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will move to head back to rejoin the festivities.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Now, tell me, have you ever been to a temple of Sehanine...?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Oh, absolutely. One you specifically requested, in fact.

Nik: Well, then if you're offering, I'd be glad to accompany you 🙂

Katherina and Lavinia Meet With Nik to Discuss His Sausage and Orgies

Lavinia: and Katherina will take the chance at half time to stretch their legs and wander down to the more public areas, around the snack tents.

Nik: has purchased a sausage of uncertain origins and is wandering around taking in the sights

Katherina: chatters about nonsense as we wander through the crowd

Nik: still has his ridiculous hat also

Katherina: smacks her sister in the arm

Lavinia: Ow! What was that for?

Katherina: Oh my gods - is that Evenor? :o

Katherina: giggles madly

Lavinia: O.o

Nik: Ah, ladies, good day!

Lavinia: Is he...

Lavinia: Oh! Good day, My Lord!

Nik: waves and comes over in your direction

Katherina: grins brightly and waves

Nik: Are you enjoying the match so far?

Katherina: Good day my lord! I see you are enjoying yourself!

Nik: Well, it is my first time, I figure one should embrace the local customs and experience it to the full 🙂

Lavinia: Ahhh... yes.

Katherina: And yes, jut stretching our legs.

Katherina: That's so fun though! I don't think I've ever seen anyone wear such an...accessory up in the boxes

Nik: Now, I was told that Duke Harcourt has one but his sister won't permit him to wear it 😉

Nik: but perhaps it will be a new style in time!

Lavinia: laughs.

Lavinia: Well, more ridiculous fashions have certainly happened.

Nik: I must admit I am somewhat at a loss as to how to undertake eating this sausage, though. The bun is far too small to contain it.

Katherina: Oh what I would give to see that!

Lavinia: It does seem very... unwieldy.

Katherina: snickers

Katherina: One bite at a time, I imagine. Though of course if you think it's large....

Katherina: I can't fathom I could even get my mouth around it.

Nik: It's certainly large enough to share, if you wanted some too 🙂

Katherina: picture of innocence

Lavinia: turns deep, bright red.

Lavinia: Aha... Um... no, thank you. Perhaps Kitty would be of more assistance in that particular area.

Katherina: And what have you got slathered all over it? Careful it doesn't drip all over your lovely clothes, my lord...

Nik: It was... some kind of sauce. It is all quite excessive, in any case, but I am enjoying it considerably.

Lavinia: Is it... supposed to be quite that color?

Nik: I have no basis for comparison!

Katherina: It does look quite...saucy.

Lavinia: So... how have you been finding the match, My Lord? Is this your first time attending?

Nik: Yes, it is! I admit that I have little idea what's happening most of the time, although it's quite exciting! So much activity and excitement!

Lavinia: Yes, it's one of my favorite social outings. One cannot help but be excited, although the game itself is often a bit... brutish. But there is a lot of strategy to it as well.

Katherina: Well I've been watching for years and I still only know about half the rules. It's so enjoyable to watch though, it hardly matters.

Katherina: I think it would be fun to play, thought!

Lavinia: I'm not even sure the referies know all of the rules.

Nik: Goodness! Are there leagues where one can try it out without quite such stakes?

Katherina: I'm sure there must be... But it must requre some kind of martial training or adventuring experience, or at least serious arcane study or practice, hmmm...

Lavinia: Are you thinking of trying out for a team, My Lord?

Katherina: Vinnie what do you think I would be suited to?

Lavinia: says with a grin

Katherina: Do you think its too late to learn the sword? Or maybe magic?

Nik: Oh, I hadn't imagined such a thing, but it would be fun to try! I can't imagine I would be very good at it, but that's often more fun, isn't it?

Lavinia: Oh, I think perhaps a bard would suit you best, what with that sharp tongue of yours.

Lavinia: That's all mother would need. Her heart attack would be assured.

Katherina: Oooh! I should pay more attention to my music lessons, then, hmmmm. And yes - if everyone is on the sasme level it can e very fun to learn together

Katherina: Though a good coach would be essential

Nik: Yes, as long as perhaps someone there understood the game, it would be quite enjoyable!

Lavinia: Well, Then perhaps we should expect to see you on the field next season!

Katherina: I shall have to let you know if I find any sort of beginner league, then we can both try it out ;)

Nik: laughs

Nik: Please do!

Nik: And in the meantime, I have been invited to another occasion, a ceremony at the temple of Sehanine. Have you ever attended such an event?

Lavinia: Oh, ummm... what sort of ceremony?:

Katherina: eye go wide Oh really? by whom :o

Katherina: I've heard so many stories of such ceremonies but I've never dared to attend one....

Nik: Well, Colmacil Vilyawen proposed the excursion. I admit I don't know much more about it, but they said it was one of the sights to see in the city.

Lavinia: Kitty, don't you even THINK of it!

Katherina: well why not? Is it wrong to get a little religious once in a while?

Katherina: Does Sehanine not deserve our worship?

Lavinia: You know full well why not.

Lavinia: Those events are for... adults of... certain persuasions.

Katherina: Oh I heard they are for anyone....

Katherina: what happens in the ceremonies stays in the ceremonies, and all

Nik: looks quite puzzled but smiles gamely

Katherina: It doesn't count for anything meaningful

Lavinia: Well, I suppose you could go. But certainly you'd need a chaperone. I'm sure mother would be willing to go with you.

Katherina: waves her hand dismissively

Katherina: laughs Mother? I can't imagine it!

Katherina: Her head would explode!

Katherina: (to Nik)Did this friend of yours tell you anything about it?

Nik: Not too much, no.

Katherina: looks at her sister

Lavinia: Well, I'm sure it will be... educational...

Katherina: Well... the full moon ceremonies are said to be....

Lavinia: elbows her sister in the ribs discretely.

Katherina: glances around and makes sure no one is watching, then cups her hands around her mouth and says very quietly, ignoring her sister's elbow, "orgies*

Nik: oh, my!

Lavinia: BY THE GODS KITTY

Katherina: I can't imagine inviting someone and not letting them know such a thing!

Lavinia: How do you even know that word!>

Katherina: What! Vinnie it's only proper to let him know!

Katherina: And why shouldn't I? you clearly know it.

Lavinia: I... have no idea what you're talking about.

Nik: well, ah, perhaps it's not such a ceremony, I don't know. I meant no offense, Hersir Feigrsteinn, I apologize if I have given such.

Lavinia: Oh, no, My Lord, of course. No offense taken at all. I know that your experiences are somewhat limited.

Lavinia: I apologize for my sister's frankness.

Katherina: Well it certainly would be an experience...

Katherina: And I don't think I have anything to apologize for.

Lavinia: You never do.

Nik: It's certainly no need to apologize. I do assume my acquaintance would say something before we should attend such a thing, they are quite thoughtful and would certainly not spring something like that unannounced!

Lavinia: I would hope not!

Katherina: Well, very good then. But if you do you go....

Katherina: steps out of her sister's smacking range

Katherina: You shall have to et me know all about it :D

Nik: smiles at that

Lavinia: seems at quite a loss for words.

Nik: It was lovely to see you both, I hope you both enjoy the rest of the match! I shall endeavour to eat this sausage without further mishaps 🙂

Lavinia: Ah... yes, My Lord. Lovely to see you as always.

Katherina: . o (I'd watch him eat that thing... small bites and some well timed licks....>.>)

Solos

Lamont has a Visitor From High Command

Lamont: Centurion Auspex will be asked to wait if she can't be deterred by explanations that the marquess is quite ill and not receiving visitors, probably for about half an hour, at which point she will be brought into a parlour to find him there, looking pretty crap, honestly - pale and a bit gaunt. he is wrapped in a fancy dressing gown and seated with a blanket over his lap.

Lamont: Lieutenant Auspex.... please excuse me if I am not able to greet you properly

Lamont: sounds about how he looks, exhausted and drained

Juno Morticia Auspex: looks prim and proper in her uniform, carrying a satchel of correspondence and leaning on her cane.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Nothing to apologize for, Lt. Stillmarch. Allow me to apologize for imposing upon your convalescence.

Juno Morticia Auspex: I assure you, if these could wait, I wouldn't have insisted.

Lamont: nods

Lamont: Of course

Juno Morticia Auspex: I have correspondence for your review, as well as quartermaster charts, all standard and far from pressing.

Juno Morticia Auspex: hands over a sheaf of papers.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Most importantly, and genuinely pressing, however, is the need for you to review and sign this order.

Lamont: takes them, lloks at them with a furrowed brow, and sets the aside

Lamont: Order?

Juno Morticia Auspex: hands along separately a more official-looking document.

Juno Morticia Auspex: The 2nd Machel Cavalry is being recalled to Highmark.

Lamont: will take it and look, trying to marshall his shattered concentration

Lamont: Oh.

Juno Morticia Auspex: So your signature is needed on the order to make it official.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Standard Highmarker officiousness, meaning no offense, of course.

Lamont: of course.

Lamont: Are they.... withdrawing my leave?

Juno Morticia Auspex: Well, I don't have any orders to that effect, no.

Lamont: says, still starring at the document, and then nods

Juno Morticia Auspex: It's entirely possible they'll just be redeployed to the field, honestly.

Lamont: right.

Juno Morticia Auspex: But Yondon is mustering troops to assist in the south, and no one wants to be left out.

Lamont: says, sounding just completely resigned

Juno Morticia Auspex: Is everything all right?

Lamont: shakes his head, and then winces

Juno Morticia Auspex: frowns.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Is it your illness? What did your physician say?

Lamont: I'm afraid I don't have anything to sign with to hand...

Narrator: (How sick would you say Lamont is?)

Juno Morticia Auspex: I have pens and ink with me, wax, all of that.

Juno Morticia Auspex: will produce such from her bag.

Lamont: (Pretty bad, not quite at death's door, but probably shouldn't really be up and about)

Lamont: my physician >.>

Lamont: Mu uncle's physician. Say I am 'difficult'... and my humors are...entirely unbalanced.

Juno Morticia Auspex: frowns.

Lamont: thank you

Juno Morticia Auspex: Did they prescribe anything?

Lamont: Oh, yes...

Lamont: stares at the paper until he can at least figure out where to sign, and does so in something that is a far cry from his usual perfect calligraphy

Lamont: looks at his hands to see if he even has his signet on

Juno Morticia Auspex: I don't want to gainsay a professional, but would you like me to...?

Lamont: to...?

Lamont: looks confused

Juno Morticia Auspex: raises her off hand, just barely wreathed in a ghostly green luminescence.

Juno Morticia Auspex: This just seems like more than simple imbalance.

Lamont: oh.... by all means

Juno Morticia Auspex: closes her eyes, though misty bits of the same energy leak from their edges as she passes her hand slowly through the air near Lamont.

Juno Morticia Auspex: frowns more deeply.

Juno Morticia Auspex: I'm not exactly a healer, Lt. Stillmarch, but I think you need to see one, and soon.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Do you...have one of your own?

Lamont: My uncle manages all such matters.

Lamont: says, but badly restrained resenement and, again, resignation

Juno Morticia Auspex: Of course.

Juno Morticia Auspex: You might try to impress upon him the need for further treatment.

Juno Morticia Auspex: They'll need you fighting fit if the 2nd does get sent south.

Juno Morticia Auspex: tries to sound at least a little upbeat, but is clearly concerned.

Lamont: I see.

Lamont: I'm sure they'll be fine.

Juno Morticia Auspex: nods.

Juno Morticia Auspex: If you can apply your seal, I can leave you to your rest.

Juno Morticia Auspex: I am sorry for interrupting.

Lamont: can probably just about manage that

Lamont: No, no.... It was good to see....anyone from the outside world

Lamont: And thank you, for your concern

Juno Morticia Auspex: nods.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Hopefully we'll have a chance to catch up when you're feeling better.

Lamont: nods, and his brow furrows like he is trying to sort out his thoughts, or say something

Juno Morticia Auspex: will pause a moment to give him a chance to speak.

Lamont: I assume it will take some time for them to return

Juno Morticia Auspex: nods.

Juno Morticia Auspex: Presumably.

Lamont: Ahh. The unit healer was.... quite good.

Lamont: sighs

Juno Morticia Auspex: I'll see if maybe something can be done to get them here sooner.

Lamont: I'm not sure it would matter.

Juno Morticia Auspex: It couldn't hurt, right?

Lamont: sighs again.

Lamont: I suppose.

Juno Morticia Auspex: gives Lamont what is supposed to be a fortifying nod, and will take her leave.

Nik and His Father Visit A Sleeping Lamont and His Uncle

Nik: has been anxious about Lamont, since being unable to get in to see him personally, and keeps bringing it up with his father when he has a chance.

Nik: Do you think you could just check in on him? As a healer, since you did tend to him, even just a little on the ride home? I know it's probably fine but I'm worried about him.

Mikethelas Amathalis: sighs.

Mikethelas Amathalis: Nik, it would be rude to impose, but...if it will make you feel better, I suppose it wouldn't be taken too amiss.

Nik: smiles in relief

Mikethelas Amathalis: I'll messenger a note over while you go get dressed for a visit, hmm?

Nik: Oh, thank you, and maybe I can write a letter for you to give to him while you're there? just a little note, nothing too much...

Mikethelas Amathalis: shakes his head and sighs, but smiles indulgently.

Mikethelas Amathalis: If you insist.

Nik: or you think I could go in? I don't want to impose, like you said.

Mikethelas Amathalis: Let us wait to see what sort of state the Marquess Stillmarch is in before we make that decision.

Nik: nods

Nik: I'll write a note and wait in the carriage unless they say it's all right for me to go in...

Nik: Thank you, father! You're the best 😄

Mikethelas Amathalis: Well, I won't argue with that, but go get ready.

Nik: hurries off to go write that note and get ready

Mikethelas Amathalis: will write a short note and send it off with a messenger, then has the carriage brought around.

Nik: will accompany him but is prepared to be disappointed

Nik: do you think we could invite him to come to Therma Alba to recuperate, if he's able?

Nik: asks hopefully

Mikethelas Amathalis: With any luck, he won't need that level of care.

Mikethelas Amathalis: But I don't see why you couldn't invite him to visit regardless.

Nik: Oh, good. Because I already said that in the note....

Mikethelas Amathalis: chuckles to himself.

Narrator: The trip to Griffon's Crest is pleasant enough, the early spring sun shining down and helping to dispel some of the lingering chill.

Mikethelas Amathalis: will call at the front door, and a servant will see him to the sitting room before retreating to inform Thurston there is a guest.

Thurston: will come to the sitting room promptly, looking a teeny bit worn out

Thurston: I hadn't anticipated callers, but I am pleased to see you both. I imagine you're here because of my nephew?

Mikethelas Amathalis: Ah, yes, our apologies for the imposition, but my son has been particularly concerned about your nephew since their ride, so we were hoping to check in on the marquess if it wouldn't be too much trouble.

Thurston: Oh, I'm very sorry to say that he is quite asleep at the moment. I hate for your visit to go unfulfilled, but under his condition it seems cruel to wake him

Mikethelas Amathalis: If you wouldn't mind, I could examine him somewhat without waking him, just to put my son's mind at ease.

Mikethelas Amathalis: You know how it is with worry. No news simply feeds the fear.

Thurston: considers that for a moment

Thurston: I can't see any reason you shouldn't. He's so particular about doctors, but surely he'd allow his friend's father a look.

Mikethelas Amathalis: nods and will turn to give Nik a cheering smile.

Mikethelas Amathalis: stands and will let himself be taken to Lamont's room.

Mikethelas Amathalis: How has his condition been?

Stillmarch: is in bed, looking like hot garbage, but stirring slightly

Thurston: He's been... fitful. Recovering a bit, then regressing. He wasn't in the best health to begin with

Mikethelas Amathalis: frowns and nods.

Mikethelas Amathalis: will move over to examine Lamont more closely, taking care to be quiet.

Mikethelas Amathalis: lightly touches Lamont's forehead and channels power through his dragonmark.

Mikethelas Amathalis: That should help him sleep, if nothing else.

Stillmarch: 's brow furrows as though in pain or concentration, and it looks like he is trying to open his eyes for a moment, before he relaxes

Thurston: I do appreciate that

Mikethelas Amathalis: places a hand on Lamont's chest, sliding the note from Nik into Lamont's surreptitiously.

Stillmarch: (nightshirt I think)

Mikethelas Amathalis: It's been, what, a week now? Thereabouts?

Thurston: Nods worriedly

Thurston: I had hoped he'd be on the mend by now

Mikethelas Amathalis: I would have thought he would be. You've had a doctor in to see him? Or a cleric?

Thurston: My own doctor has been tending to him, yes

Mikethelas Amathalis: He may need further care, if his condition doesn't improve. He would of course be welcome at Therma Alba, if it becomes necessary.

Thurston: smiles

Thurston: I do appreciate it. If his case becomes that severe, I will contact you immediately.

Mikethelas Amathalis: Please do. Let me know if there's anything we can do to help.

Mikethelas Amathalis: We should let him rest, as you said, and I can allay some of my son's fears.

Mikethelas Amathalis: will thank Thurston for being a gracious host, and apologize again for the imposition.
