Fedifre Ula

Fedifre (458-481-), known as Oleander and the Token-maid, is a saint whose physical appearance is a strikingly pale red-haired woman of about twenty-two. She is believed to have been born around 450 in western Basai, and to have been brought to southern Khutu by her early followers at the urging of Eluli Ula, who was seeking at that time to consolidate power by attracting powerful saints. Fedifre's ulajeta is a large temple complex surrounded by thousands of acres of highly fertile land, located around halfway between the Pardopasu and the city of Onighus. The Fedifri are notable in that the only way to be adopted into the lineage - and in fact, the only way to retain Her favour - is through ritual self-sacrifice followed by rebirth as a revenant, a risky proposition with every chance of failure or serious harm. To sacrifice one's life to Fedifre for the reward 'token' of her loyalty is not for everyone, including many raised around her cult, but it is attractive given the wealth and power She commands and bestows on her revived followers. Detractors (including many at Nemnosti) characterize Fedifre's cult as abusive and vampiric, or even heretical, but that has not stopped it from being very successful. Fedifre herself is an exceptionally charismatic, bold leader who has inserted herself into many of the key political and social movements of the past two centuries, most notably, in taking action against the Hulti, where Fedifre's early cult was involved in the vigorous slaughter of the Old Folk in southern Khutu and northern Daligash. Fedifre and Nemnu Ula have had a long rivalry, with the latter finding Her junior to be crass and exploitative.
