Structure
The general structure of army units is as follows:
- Battalion: Five companies, usually headed by a Lieutenant-Colonel or a Colonel, supported by multiple officers and NCOs. Approximately 1000 people.
- Company: Four Platoons. Usually headed by a captain or a major, often supported by other officers and high-ranking NCOs such as Warrant Officers. Approximately 200 people.
- Platoon: Four squads. Usually headed by a Lieutenant and supported by 3-4 NCOS (one Sargent, several corporals in charge of their squads). Approximately 45 people.
- Squad: 8-10 people including the squad leader, usually a corporal. Most squads operated as part of a platoon, though they could be deployed independently as smaller units for specialized work such as raiding.

Unit Types
(incomplete!)
- Infantry - Soldiers armed with rifles, machine guns, and short range alchemical explosives (grenades): the most common unit.
- Artillery - Things what go boom! All companies would contain an artillery support unit
- Mixed Division - Mixed unit incorporating infantry with sorcerers, usually companies or platoons divided into specialized squads.
- Magical Support - By the end of the war, most of these units were dispersed into mixed divisions.
- Chasseurs - Specialized Infantry raiding units, usually organized at the squad level
- Warforged - There were two companies of warforged put into service, under the command of human officers
- Shadar-kai - One company of shadar-kai soldiers (who were either already citizens or served in return for citizenship) was fielded. Initially under the command of human officers, who were gradually phased out as more shadar-kai proved themselves worthy of command. Known colloquially as "The Blackbloods"
- Other specialized units for scouting, alchemical warfare, intelligence, communications, etc... though often a platoon would have a few individuals specializing in these rather than a fully dedicated unit.
