[DiablotinNarrator] It is drawing near to the end of the year, the holidays that divide one year from the next, and the grand festivities that will accompany them (including a certain triple Imperial wedding...) [DiablotinNarrator] For the Rhenean Antiquarian Society, the end of the year is a time for reflection on achievements of its scholars over the past year, formal induction of new members, and some modest celebration of its own. [DiablotinNarrator] The usual assortment of members is there, as well as some new faces in the crowd. [DiablotinNarrator] The Society's hall is nicely decorated for the season, and there are refreshments provided, though perhaps somewhat sparser than usual. [DiablotinNarrator] New members can join the Society either by being sponsored by a current member (as most of you did) or by paying a one-time, rather substantial sum of money, on top of the regular membership dues. Most people who wish to join, perhaps understandably, attempt to secure a sponsor. [DiablotinNarrator] Rather than the usual structure for a meeting, a single presentation followed by discussion and snacks, the end-of-the-year meeting takes a different form. [DiablotinNarrator] Vianca, as head of the Society, will speak briefly about the current state of the Society as a whole, and introduce the new members. Then any member who wishes may come to the podium to announce discoveries they have made or briefly describe the research they have conducted over the past year. Finally, food and drink are served and people can mingle and talk. [Vianca] Good evening, and welcome. It's lovely to see you all once again, here to celebrate the end of another successful year of the Rhenean chapter of the Imperial Society for the Study and Preservation of Antiquities, Manuscripts, and Historical Curiosities and the Improvement of Knowledge.

  • Ysabeau wonders if there actually ARE other chapters, or whether it's simply an affectation.

[DiablotinNarrator] (there are) [Vianca] A number of our members have made important discoveries over the past year, but I'll let them tell you about those in due time. I would be remiss, however, if I didn't mention the recent publication of our own Jeremiah Harbottle's excellent piece of scholarship, "The Houseless of Aveyrone." [Vianca] Having read a preliminary copy, I'm sure it is bound to become the definitive work on the subject.

  • Alma makes a note to purchase a copy.

[DiablotinNarrator] There is polite applause from the assembled members. [Vianca] On the whole, the Society is thriving, with a current membership of forty-six scholars, an increase over last year. [Vianca] This is fortunate, as I fear that our beloved hall will need some repairs, particularly to the roof, in the near future, and the added membership revenue should help to offset those costs. [Vianca] Speaking of our new members, please allow me to introduce your newest colleagues! [Vianca] His Grace Loick Silveira, Duke of Brissarthe, sponsored by Symon Tourigny. His Grace is a student of his own family's illustrious history. [DiablotinNarrator] The Duke is a strikingly handsome young man, tall and broadly-built, with shoulder-length silvery hair tied back stylishly, and impeccable clothing. [Vianca] Noémi D'Avin, sponsored by Terceira D'Avin. Mlle. D'Avin is a talented sculptor and pursues research in that field as well. [DiablotinNarrator] The new Mlle. D'Avin is tall, perhaps about twenty-one, with blonde hair cut short, which makes her look rather austere. [Vianca] Ser Danyel Rackley, sponsored by Sister Alma de Béziers. Ser Danyel's interest is in the foundation and early years of the Order of the Spoke. [DiablotinNarrator] Danyel looks a little embarrassed, but nods politely. [Vianca] Bessa du Champe, sponsored by Tiphaigne Deverara. Mlle. du Champe studies the pre-emergence evidence for knowledge of House Rat.

  • Alma smiles at him.

[DiablotinNarrator] Mlle. du Champe is quite short, in her mid-twenties or so, with light brown hair, prettily dressed. She is not beautiful, but has a certain elegance in the way she carries herself. [Vianca] Brother Sirron Arganty, sponsored by Sister Jacona Gallion. Brother Sirron studies prophecy and divination within the Church. [DiablotinNarrator] Brother Sirron looks to be around thirty, short and rather plain, apart from an unfortunate wine-coloured birthmark that mars his cheek. [Vianca] Terral Eichorn, sponsored by Enoch Walther. M. Eichorn is a natural historian with a particular interest in magical creatures. [DiablotinNarrator] M. Eichorn is in his mid-twenties with short, curly brown hair, tanned and vigorous-looking, as though he spends a great deal of time outdoors. [Vianca] Odeliève Hysell, sponsored by Verity Arguelles. Mlle. Hysell is interested in the history of the theatre in Diablotin. [DiablotinNarrator] Mlle. Hysell is a very pretty young woman of perhaps twenty years of age, plump, with wavy chestnut hair. [Vianca] Rickard Liebe, sponsored by Benalda Grenrake. M. Liebe has a wide variety of interests, ranging from the ancient history of the Empire to modern feats of engineering. [DiablotinNarrator] M. Liebe is young, and probably looks younger than he is, being very short and painfully thin, with lank black hair. [Vianca] Now I shall turn the floor over to the rest of you. Please do come to the front if you feel so inclined, and share with us something you've been working on. These are not formal presentations, so don't worry about whether it's too incomplete or trivial to be worth mentioning. Every piece of knowledge is valuable, after all.

  • Ilphere glances over at Sanadhil.
  • Vianca waits hopefully for someone to begin.

[Sanadhil] . o O (May as well get this over with :p)

  • Sanadhil galnces around and sees if anyone else is about to step forward, and nods to Ilphere before making his way to the Podium assuming they aren't.

[Sanadhil] Good evening everyone - and especially to our new members - I look forweard to hearing about your own research efforts in the coming year. As a relatively new member of the Society myself, I would also like to thank the more established members for providing such a welcoming atmosphere, open to new investigations into the past as well as modern reseaerch [Sanadhil] I would particularly like to thank Mlle Elizabeth Lawfeld for sponsoring me at our meeting last year, and Mme Belden for her advice and leadership. [Sanadhil] As some of you know, I am interested in the early foundations of the Empire, and have made a number of interestingf discoveries to that end. [Sanadhil] I am currently working on more structured presentations to that end, but I'll just give you the highlights for now - hopefully you'll finf them as fascinating as I do

  • Sanadhil smiles]

[Sanadhil] I have had the good fortune to be able to organize two expeditions into the Shadow Plane this past year, the first with the assistance of Mr. Seth Argo, to investigate ties between that plane and the peoples living in the area at the time of the foundation of Aveyrone.

  • Sanadhil nods to Seth

[Sanadhil] We discovered there the remains of an ancient city - Sarasagel, which closely mirrors Diablotin in its structure. [Seth] . o O (Well, there's that , at least!) [Sanadhil] I believe that some of the expedition members may be developing their own research to further explore some of those connections. [Guillame] . o O (If I could find a way to connect the underworlds :/) [Sanadhil] Persoanlly, since the second expedition, I have become much more interested in the religious practices of the peoples here at the time of the foundation, and myself and Mlle de Quessenet are currently investigating early references to religion in the area and in neighboring Plascencia to try and piece together more details of how the Empire as we know it came to be. [Sanadhil] I won't take up too much more time here, but if any of you would liek to speak further about any of these, please come and speak to either of us. Thank you.

  • Sanadhil nods to Ilphere, and will step down
  • Ilphere smiles back..!

[DiablotinNarrator] Melia Walther steps up and speaks briefly about her discovery of a series of letters, long thought lost, between Athenais Kester, mistress of Emperor Deniel IV Rademacher, and various government officials, nobles, etc. suggesting her role in effectively running the Empire was greater than previously known. [DiablotinNarrator] Navis Culpepper speaks about a possible earlier version of the legend of Airamis and Ilvena, predating the reign of Dvora Blessing, which sheds new light on the origins of the tragic story.

  • Ysabeau listens closely.

[DiablotinNarrator] Anstine Kypros talks about his investigation into the negotiations around the integration of Psyra into the Empire, and the deals that were made behind the scenes, later reneged upon by Aveyrone.

  • Seth steps up to the podium.

[Seth] Dear colleagues, thank you. As M. Orecalo has already indicated, we have been undertaking some very important research over the past few months, much of it relating to discoveries made in the Shadow Plane. [Seth] As a result of these, I am pleased to announce that I have initiated a new research project into the history and creation of our city's greatest architectural treasure, by which of course I mean the Arch itself.

  • Ysabeau gives Dom one of many concerned sidelong glances he has been getting since beginning his black mood about a week ago.

[Seth] While this is a topic upon which much speculative ink has been shed, I am happy to report much promising initial data is coming to light. [Seth] I welcome any further insights from any of you whose various specialties may overlap with my own.

  • Seth steps down.

[DiablotinNarrator] Symon Tourigny provides a demonstration of an early musical instrument he's attempting to recreate. It looks like a krumhorn and sounds like a cow dying, but everyone applauds politely anyway.

  • Ysabeau applauds more enthusiastically for her friend. :)
  • Ilphere will say a quick word... :)

[Ilphere] Good evening everyone...! [Ilphere] Over the course of my investigations over the past year into extra-planar influences on the cultures of Aveyrone, I have, as an aid to my research, done some investigations into dream travel and the planes of dream... [Ilphere] I rediscovered the late Emperor Ruchard Rademacher's thesis on Dream Travel, written in (blah year), which proved to be most fascinating...! [Ilphere] Among other theories on the nature of the planes of dream, the thesis contains a description of a previously unknown spell which he refers to as 'Dream Walk,' similar to the Plane Shift spell which I expect many of you are familiar with...!

  • Ilphere briefly describes the spell.

[Ilphere] He also makes reference to a technique of lucid dreaming by which one could travel between dream planes, whether one arrived there by natural sleep or by using this spell... [Ilphere] After careful study of his writing, as well as some other evidence, I have come to believe that the Emperor did not 'disappear' but rather chose to leave this world for the Dreamscape...! [DiablotinNarrator] There is quite a murmur of interest at that. [Ilphere] I thought that the Rademacher historians among us might be particularly interested in that possibility... If anyone would like to discuss it, or the Dream Walking Spell, which I have now successfully cast, I would be happy to do so...! [Ilphere] Thank you for your time...! [DiablotinNarrator] Applause! [DiablotinNarrator] Enoch Walther comes up next and discusses the possible location of an intriguing ancient ruin to which he intends to pay a visit, and asks for volunteers to accompany him, perhaps in Second-month of the new year. [Ilphere] (what kind of ruin) [Sanadhil] (yes @_@) [DiablotinNarrator] ("ancient" ;) [Ysabeau] (and where is it?!) [DiablotinNarrator] (you could ask him more later :) [Ilphere] (is it buried in sand) [DiablotinNarrator] (anything is possible..._

  • Ysabeau hopes there will be music or legends there.... ;_;

[DiablotinNarrator] Theodore Sleyght shows off some artifacts from a recent excavation south of the city, including some interesting glassware and pottery.

  • Alma mentions quietly to Danyel how it might be interesting to visit a ruin in THIS plane.

[DiablotinNarrator] (Anyone else have anything they wanted to report?) [Ysabeau] (no... nothing coherent to tell anyone yet, for me) [Guillame] (Yes... but I'm taking a phone call) [DiablotinNarrator] (np, we can wait :)

  • Alma chats with Sleyght and wonders what she could learn from his trinkets :3
  • Guillame takes the podium

[Guillame] Good evening... this is my first address to the society, so I hope you'll be patient with me.

  • Guillame smiles nervously.

[Guillame] My research is into house Rat society prior to the exodus from the undercity, and is still at a very early stage. [Guillame] There are two avenues that I've had some success in. Firstly, the lack of any strong, common knowledge about a very recent culture seemed strange to me, and upon investigation there has been some suggestion that the history may have been deliberately obscured. [Guillame] Second, I have documented compelling evidence that the special talents and abilities of House Rat are greater than is currently understood. There is also evidence that some of those abilities may have been severely diminished by the exodus, although how is not clear. [Guillame] Thank you.

  • Guillame leaves the podium for the next speaker.

[DiablotinNarrator] OK.. after everyone who wanted to speak has finished their little talks, you are free to mingle, chat, etc. [DiablotinNarrator] (whether with each other or NPCs, although... maybe only one NPC at a time, for my sanity -_-)

  • Sanadhil will look for Walther
  • Ysabeau looks for Walther as well.
  • Guillame will look for Fern

[Guillame] (But not right away)

  • Dominik looks for something to nibble on and find a dark corner to watch
  • Seth will look around for his compatriots to arrange a discussion later, when we have more privacy.

[Enoch] (sorry, Alma still wanted to talk - rewind briefly :)

  • Alma will step up towards the end and take the podium.

[Alma] Those of you who were here for my induction may remember that I have an interest in the funerary customs of the Empire and beyond. [Alma] In my exploration of the Empire's various customs, I came across reference to a custom practiced in what is now the Duchy of Demavand. The inhabitants adhered to a shamanistic nature cult and, believing that the body itself had inherent spiritual value, they practiced ritualised cannibalism of the deceased. [Alma] What is perhaps more interesting is that, for a time, this practice was tolerated by the Church and the Empire. I hope to compile a detailed report to submit to the Society, as time allows.

  • Alma will step aside politely.
  • Alma also wants to talk to Walther at some point :3

[Enoch] (ok, now I think you can talk to folks... :)

  • Enoch will talk to everyone who wants to talk to him, which seems to be a lot of you.

[Sanadhil] Good evening, Mr. Walther [Enoch] Good evening. [Ysabeau] Good evening, M. Walther, M. Orecalo! [Sanadhil] Mlle Chanuier

  • Sanadhil nods to her

[Sanadhil] I am very curious to hear more about this ancient ruin you've discovered

  • Alma notes with amusement that the two of you have convened on Mr. Walther and will join the trio.

[Sanadhil] It sounds very intriguing [Enoch] Ah, well, it's difficult to say at this point, of course, but I have hopes that it could be. [Ysabeau] Indeed, I am very curious about them as well. Where are they, exactly, M. Walther? :D

  • Ilphere drifts over to the group of the curious...
  • Alma nods a quiet greeting to the assembled.

[Enoch] They are quite far to the northeast, in Kholm. [Ilphere] (what do I know about Kholm?) [Ilphere] (is that K: geography?)

  • Sanadhil would also liek that roll!

[Alma] (21 geo, 9 hist) [Enoch] (sure, or k:noble if you want to know who's incharge there) [Alma] (noble 17) [Ilphere] (21 geo, 38 hist) [Ilphere] (25 noble) [Ysabeau] (K:G 20 K:H 11) [Sanadhil] (26 geo, 28 history) [Ysabeau] (nat 20 for my K: nobility for a 28) [Enoch] Noble rolls: - Danyel's family, the Rackleys, are in charge of Kholm. Geo people, it's at the edge of the Empire, bordered by desert and mountains. Hist. it's been part of the Empire for not quite 1000 years, Empress Roslin Marcox was the one who conquered it, along with Demavand, but she died on the return trip. [Ysabeau] (And a 25 for Bardic Knowledge 'cause you never know when it'll come in handy) [Enoch] (also, San, you believe that's where that Sharpears guy was from...) [Sanadhil] Thats' quite a distance.... [Sanadhil] (I was just thinking that :x) [Ysabeau] Why, that's near the Silver Desert!!! [Enoch] Indeed, it is, but I have certain resources that could shorten the trip considerably. [Sanadhil] Oh?

  • Ysabeau looks very excited, now.

[Enoch] Well, that could at least take us to Kholm itself, if not directly to the location of the ruins, which I have not yet explored. [Sanadhil] that would be quite helpful, definitely

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] How did they come to your attention]? [Enoch] Certain very old maps... I can show them to you if you are curious. [Sanadhil] Always

  • Sanadhil smiles

[Sanadhil] I would like to hear more about your plans for the expedition as well [Enoch] Well, I am willing to take whoever wishes to accompany me, up to the limits of the teleportation of course. I would hope to explore for perhaps a week or two, depending on how much there is to see. [Sanadhil] of course [Ysabeau] I've been interested in going up that way, so if I can manage to convince my professors to grant me leave to go, I'd love to! [Ysabeau] Um... if you'd have need of my particular skills, that is... [Enoch] Of course, I'd be delighted.

  • Ysabeau calms herself down, remembering all her obligations here. @_@

[Alma] Please keep me informed as well. I might be able to increase the size of your party, for that matter :) [Enoch] Thank you, Sister, that's good to know :) [Ysabeau] . o O (Muri is getting old enough to take care of herself for a week or two, if she's comfortable with it...) [Ysabeau] What sort of ruin is it, aside from being ancient? A temple, a town, something else, something as yet undiscerned? [Sanadhil] Well I am definitely interested as well - can you tell us anything more about them at this time? [Enoch] Well, they already seem to be ruins by the time of the maps I speak of, which are from the 7th century, so they are certainly a good deal older than that.

  • Ilphere listens with interest...!

[Ilphere] Do you have any theories yet as to who might have left them behind...? [Enoch] I am not even certain they're human, to tell you the truth.

  • Sanadhil nods
  • Ilphere nods as well...

[Sanadhil] There is an Elven population in that are. They are nomadic now, but they may not have always been... There could be other possibilitues as well. [Alma] All the more reason I'd be interested in going... [Ilphere] What is the terrain like in that area...? [Enoch] There were various other races inhabiting those parts prior to their incorporation into the Empire... elven, as you say, and possibly also kobolds, goblinoids... [Ysabeau] I've heard there are gorgons there so we must be equipped to deal with them. [Sanadhil] hmm... [Enoch] The terrain is reportedly fairly desert-like, though I haven't seen it myself.

  • Ilphere looks thoughtful...

[Ysabeau] It's close to the Silver Desert so that makes sense. [Alma] Gorgons? [Alma] With the ... snakes for hair? [Ysabeau] Yes. [Ysabeau] I thought there might be some links to the structures we've discovered in the Shadow Plane. [Ysabeau] And their ancient inhabitants, perhaps. [Sanadhil] that woudl be quite remarkable... [Enoch] Well, I will keep you informed as I make my plans, if you decide to accompany me :) [Sanadhil] I am hoping the ruins may tell us something of the groups that came south to form the Empire [Alma] It would be an excellent opportunity for me to examine objects that might belong to other species. [Ysabeau] That's why I want to go! Also, in case there's any relief sculptures of musicians playing ancient instruments, of course, and maybe, just maybe, some musical scores! [Ilphere] I would be interested as well, although it will unfortunately depend on my other commitments in the next few weeks...!

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] Hopefully by second month, you'll be a little more free. [Enoch] I would be glad for any help any of you can provide. [Ysabeau] Keep us posted, please! [Sanadhil] Yes, please. [Ysabeau] Maybe if there are artifacts related to music there it could give me some ideas for my thesis! [Enoch] I will, certainly.

  • Ysabeau is flushed with excitement, eyes sparkling brightly.

[Ysabeau] Thank you, M. Walther! [Sanadhil] Yes, I look forward to hearing more :)

  • Ysabeau will bustle off to Symon if things seem to be winding down in this little conversational knot.
  • Sanadhil will let other people accost him if they like, and waits to see if he can waylay Ilphere

[Alma] M. Oracalo, we might speak later, before you leave, as I've learned some additional information from the items you brought the other day.

  • Dominik sits quietly and listens

[Sanadhil] Ahh, of course.

  • Alma will step away for now, back to Danyel, to ask him about Kholm

  • Alma will return to Danyel's side.

[Alma] It seems Mr. Walther's ruins are located in Kholm. Your family's Duchy, if I'm not mistaken? [Danyel] Why, yes, it is :o [Alma] Do you know of any ruins near the Silver Desert? [Danyel] I admit, I haven't explored there much at all. I haven't even been there since I was quite young. [Danyel] But it certainly wouldn't surprise me. [Alma] Perhaps we might have time to accompany him. You could visit your distant relations :) [Danyel] I would enjoy that, certainly :) [Alma] I think we'll be teleporting... I admit it unnerves me a [Alma] little [Danyel] Oh? Why is that? [Alma] Well, if you're not familiar with the destination, it can result in ... mishaps. [Alma] I know I can scry the location first, but I've never cast the spell before... [Danyel] Ah. Well, we shall hope that doesn't happen. [Alma] I suppose I ought practice first. [Alma] Well perhaps tonight then... [Alma] I'll send Marielle home with the carriage and we'll teleport home!

  • Danyel chuckles.
  • Alma looks vaguely excited at the idea.

[Danyel] All right :)

  • Alma will chat with Danyel for a bit.
  • Danyel is happy to talk with you, as he seems to feel a bit out of place here still ;)

  • Guillame calms his nerves with a snack
  • Seth grabs a glass of wine and heads over to see Guillame.

[Seth> Hello, M. Rionet! [Guillame> M. Argo

  • Guillame smiles weakly

[Guillame> How was that? [Seth] Very interesting. [Seth] I wasn't aware your research was leading in that direction. [Guillame] I wasn't aware of where my research was leading at all until it did... the field is pretty dry. [Seth] What exactly do you mean when you speak of the talents of the members of your House? [Guillame] Well, I'm fairly certain that they believed in a kind of future-reading - those who could do it were called 'seers' - and if so, that the ability still exists in two or more people living today. [Seth] Really? How fascinating! [Guillame] And... there are others, but they are even more far-fetched, and I'd prefer to confirm them before I reveal them... I could be mistaken, or misled. [Seth] Is that at all like the woman you knew in the Shadow realm? [Guillame] Another, rather. [Guillame] Yes, exactly like that. It seems that without training, seers are often unable to understand their ability, and become quickly unintelligible, and possibly factually mad. [Seth] The one you knew in the other world ... she spoke of Aden ... have you learned anything about that? [Guillame] No, not really. He's a friend of mine, so I spoke to him about it, and gave him the warning. [Guillame] He's working with people that could be seen as his former enemies, so he was already wary of treachery... I'm not sure whether that's the trap in case or not, but it's all he could think of.

  • Seth nods.

[Seth] I actually wanted to speak to you on a related matter. [Seth] My current line of research has me investigating the architectural works and tunnels under the city. [Seth] I was wondering if your people had any old maps or plans describing the ways they took to negotiate the undercity, in decades past. [Guillame] Yes... you found evidence of a construct down there, if I'm not wrong? [Seth] Well, we found evidence that there might have been a tunnel used to move the construct. Although its arms still hang in the Greysmoke Temple. [Seth] But in fact, my interest is in locating the lower Arch and visiting it. [Guillame] I don't know of any surviving maps. As I hinted before, it seems increasingly plausible that there was an actual effort made to wipe out the history and relics of the undercity. However, I will certainly make some enquiries for you, as I continue my research. [Guillame] Oh? [Seth] Yes. [Seth] Since the other Seth's visit, it has been much on my mind.

  • Guillame remembers Char's encounter with the lower arch

[Guillame] I hope you'll be more... cautious than he was? [Guillame] Not that the two of you are really that alike. [Seth] I hope so. [Seth] Although, having done it once, safely, it is clearer now what I should expect. [Guillame] Do you intend to enter it? [Seth] I do. [Guillame] I can see why you would, but... [Seth] I have recently mastered the same power possessed by the other me, to enter into stone. [Guillame] . o O( So quickly..? O_o ) [Guillame] Does the idea not worry you - the impact it could have? [Seth] The impact ... on me? [Guillame] On others... but on the other hand, how can we know the truth about our arch if you don't investigate? [Seth] Precisely my thought. [Seth] But I need to find a safe path there first. [Guillame] I'll do my best to help with that. I trust that if you do undertake an expedition that crosses the undercity, that you'll include me? [Seth] If it is possible. It may be that the only route is one that is inaccessible by normal means. [Guillame] That's likely so. [Guillame] Tell me... is that ability to travel through stone one that could be taught, or is it inherent in being... you, or him? [Seth] I don't know. I do know I didn't really learn it ... more that the changes within me over the past weeks made it manifest that I could do so.

  • Guillame nods

[Guillame] Certainly my research has been impeded by the fact that all entrances to the undercity are blocked by rubble. [Guillame] Are you not able to travel directly to below the area beneath the arch, from the Down? [Seth] I'm only able to travel through short distances, and only through stone. [Guillame] Hu- h.

  • Guillame cuts short a "Hum."

[Seth] What is it, M. Rionet? [Guillame] Nothing, no. I was thinking of something else, I'm afraid. [Seth] Well ... no matter. [Guillame] I hope to be able to speak to Fern today - I'll ask her about any surviving maps first, although I expect I'll have better luck recreating one with help from other contacts.

  • Seth nods.

[Seth] I imagine so. [Seth] Oh, that reminds me ... have you had a chance to investigate the matter of the man calling himself Martan? [Guillame] I have... maybe we can talk about that in a less social setting. We could meet in the next week, and I could let you know if I think a map could be arranged, too? [Guillame] Is anyone else involved in, or interested in, your expedition? [Seth] Not yet, although I do not intend it to be a secret one. I shall certainly speak to the others about it, if not tonight, then soon. [Guillame] Well, thanks for including me, Se- M. Argo. [Seth] You are most welcome. [Seth] Well, I should go - I expect to be swarmed by individuals asking me about my new research. [Seth] I would not want anyone to think I am unwelcoming. [Guillame] I hope it's not too tiresome!

  • Guillame will go looking for Fern, or Bessa, again.

[Bessa] (Bessa is talking to Alma atm, you could join them :) [Seth] (yup)

  • Alma will also tell du Champe about the rat in the temple :3
  • Alma will approach Bessa when she appears free.
  • Bessa looks up to see you approaching, and smiles politely.

[Bessa] Good evening, Sister :) [Alma] Good evening, Mlle. du Champe :) [Alma] I heard that you are interested in learning of awareness of House Rat during the Empire's history? [Bessa] I am, yes. I believe there are definite indications, perhaps not fully understood at the time, that some people knew of their previous existence, or indeed their continued existence. [Alma] Mr. Seth Argo *indicates him* is interested in the city's architecture, as well as the great constructs of the Empire. [Bessa] Oh?

  • Bessa glances in his direction.

[Alma] There are a pair of arms positioned curiously, quite high, within the entry of the Greysmoke Temple in Rhenea. He suspected they might have belonged to the construct Schesutte. You can read about the details in his papers.

  • Bessa nods, perhaps a bit puzzled as to what this has to do with her.

[Alma] Well, I accompanied him to the temple, and we were able to fly up to examine them, and while we did find indication that they may have belonged to a construct, what was even more fascinating was that cupped within the hands was the figure of a rat. [Bessa] Really? :o [Bessa] That's fascinating! [Alma] Yes, it was quite surprising. [Bessa] I'd love to see that sometime. [Alma] I could likely arrange that for you. You may wish to speak to Mr. Argo as well. He has theories that the construct may have been whisked away via the sewers, I believe. [Bessa] How remarkable... [Bessa] Certainly, I'd be glad to speak with him. [Alma] Additionally, I find myself with an unusual power for a priest. I can learn things of an item's previous owners... race, sex, house, etc. Odd, but you can ask Mr. Sleyght as to its accuracy. If you've ever need of such a thing, feel free to get in touch. [Bessa] Really? How interesting :o How did you learn that you could do this? [Alma] Intuition, I suppose? Like an curious child, sometimes I would find something interesting and wonder who owned it, what they'd been like. One day, it ... coalesced into a genuine ... impression.

  • Bessa nods, listening.
  • Seth wanders over from talking with Guillame.

[Bessa] Oh, here he is now :) [Alma] Now it's almost routine ...

  • Guillame approaches too, and waits for an invitation to join the conversation

[Alma] Ah yes, Mr. Argo... M. Rionet. [Bessa] Good evening, gentlemen. [Seth] Good evening, ladies. [Alma] I was just telling Mlle. du Champe about our excursion to the Greysmoke Temple. She's quite interested in speaking to you :) [Guillame] Thanks, and good evening to you both too. [Bessa] Yes, it sounded fascinating! [Seth] You told her about the rat, then, I presume, Countess? [Alma] Yes indeed.

  • Bessa nods.

[Bessa] A visual representation - and in a temple, too :o [Bessa] Do you know who might have been responsible for placing it there? [Seth] Indeed, it was most remarkable. But alas, we do not know precisely. [Alma] I was meaning to take another trip there, once I could do the floating myself. Mlle. du Champe would like to be shown the figure, so I believe soon might be a good time to go again. Perhaps I could learn more from the hands, or the figurine. [Seth] Yes, certainly. Mlle. du Champe, are you a relation of Loch du Champe? [Bessa] He was my grandfather. [Guillame] I must say, I'm rather excited about your area of research - it's one that I considered, and I'm very glad that you're undertaking it, Mlle DuChampe!

  • Bessa smiles.
  • Seth nods.

[Bessa] Well, I hope I'll be able to find something worth presenting - it's a little intimidating :) [Seth] Most of us are extremely eager to see so many new members here, with such interesting projects.

  • Alma looks Bessa over while she's paying attention to Seth, wondering just how heavy she is.

[Guillame] Oh, I think we all understand that feeling. [Bessa] (hee, she's pretty short... maybe 120 lbs or so?) [Bessa] That's good to know. [Bessa] Well, if you are going to pay a visit to this temple in the near future, please let me know, and I'd be glad to accompany you. [Guillame] My own research topic was not nearly as well-stated as your own, a few months ago, and I'm glad merely to have found an avenue to explore. [Guillame] Maybe we could arrange a regular meeting of those undertaking research relating to the history of house Rat, to share recent findings? [Bessa] I'd be delighted. [Bessa] It's such an important subject... [Guillame] I certainly think so - it's important to my house, at least, and I think that it has the potential to be important to everybody.

  • Bessa nods.

[Bessa] Our house, M. Rionet :)

  • Bessa corrects you politely.

[Guillame] Oh, excuse me for misspeaking!

  • Guillame is a little horrified at himself

[Bessa] Not at all - it's a common misapprehension, as my grandfather was of House Ox :) [Alma] Loch du Champe married across houses? I was not aware of that. [Bessa] It is... slightly complex, but yes. [Bessa] My grandmother was raised in House Ox, and felt herself to be part of that House, but had been born as a Rat.

  • Alma quirks a brow.

[Alma] Interesting. [Alma] Well, your grandfather was well acquainted with Matriarch Pasith, it is not terrible surprising that he took her message to heart. [Guillame] Fascinating, indeed! Does your family continue to identify primarily as House Ox? [Bessa] Both of their children, my father Alexior and my uncle Velten, who is the Reverend Father, have become part of House Rat. [Seth] You must excuse me. I see some friends to whom I had meant to speak. It was a pleasure meeting you, Mlle. du Champe. [Bessa] Nice to meet you too, M. Argo. [Guillame] (Do I know their family? G is kicking himself ;) )

  • Seth departs and heads off to find Ilphere.

[Bessa] (Alexior is the 'emperor' of House Rat, and apparently also her father :) [Bessa] (but I don't think you knew that specifically, so no need to kick yourself :) [Guillame] (Yeah, kicking himself. I know Alexior!) [Alma] I've been long curious as to the "Emperor" business... [Bessa] Some of my cousins and siblings have chosen to join House Ox, others, like myself, consider themselves to be part of House Rat.

  • Bessa smiles.

[Alma] Is it a form of protest? [Guillame] Well, I'm extremely happy to meet you. [Bessa] A pleasure to meet you too. [Bessa] Yes, I would say it is, and a recognition of the long line of rulers who led House Rat during our centuries of exile. [Bessa] My father doesn't actually believe he rules an Empire, but he does believe that House Rat would be better served by having our own homeland.

  • Alma looks disappointed by that.

[Bessa] Really, the title descends through my mother, Char. [Alma] What is her philosophy on the Empire? :)

  • Bessa smiles.

[Bessa] Much the same as my father's. They agree on this, at least ;) [Alma] That's a shame... all the Empire needs is a little time. [Bessa] That is what my uncle Velten believes, or else he would not have become a Reverend Father. [Guillame] If you'll both excuse me, I must find Fern... she can be a little elusive some times! [Alma] Good evening, M. Rionet :) [Bessa] Certainly - it was good to meet you properly, M. Rionet :) [Guillame] Good evening!

  • Guillame wanders away

[Alma] I consider us finding Rat's place in the procession of Houses to be one of the most important issues the Empire faces at present.

  • Bessa nods.

[Bessa] I concur... certainly there is no obvious reason why it should not be next, so far as I'm concerned. [Bessa] But of course no one wants to postpone their own House's accession to power. [Alma] I agree completely. The Empire has had some time to recover from the shock of the change to succession... now it's time to take that step. [Alma] If I live to see the next Emperor's chosing, I will do my best to influence House Owl to do the right thing. [Bessa] It's good to hear you say that, Sister :) [Alma] No one should live on the outside, Mlle du Champe... and House Rat has done so for far too long already.

  • Bessa nods.

[Alma] Well, I had best let you mingle some more :) [Bessa] I hope we can talk again soon :)

  • Alma takes her leave.
  • Guillame is looking for Fern, but if somebody beckons him he'll totally join them.

  • Ysabeau joins Dominik in his shadowy corner, having been unable to chat with Symon yet. She leans against the wall next to Dom.
  • Dominik nods an acknowledgement

[Ysabeau] Did you hear? Some of us might get to go to the Silver Desert! [Ysabeau] I hope Ilphere can come, so that you can... [Dominik] whats in the silver desert? [Ysabeau] Gorgons, among other things. [Ysabeau] Like in Theron's dream.

  • Dominik nods

[Ysabeau] There are also elves that don't much like strangers, I guess. [Ysabeau] Maybe kobolds and goblins! [Ysabeau] Lots of things to fight. [Ysabeau] Have you ever seen a kobold?

  • Dominik shakes his head "no"

[Dominik] One of the Warlords a few years back came from a region that was plagued by kobolds

  • Ysabeau smiles.

[Ysabeau] Boden of Gouge, right?

  • Dominik nods

[Ysabeau] He was pretty well-known for his intense dislike of kobolds, among other things. [Dominik] among other things yes [Ysabeau] One of my little collection was based on him, they say.

  • Dominik smirks
  • Ysabeau grins wickedly.

[Ysabeau] I saw one, once... [Dominik] A kobold?

  • Ysabeau nods.

[Ysabeau] When we were moving to Diablotin. [Ysabeau] It was dead... they attacked the little caravan we were with. Luckily some of the adults were good fighters. It looked a little like a bipedal dog. [Ysabeau] Kind of weird, really. [Dominik] That was quite some time ago. I'm surprised you remember. [Ysabeau] I felt a little sorry for it. [Ysabeau] Oh, not that long ago... I was nine when we moved. [Ysabeau] Old enough to remember.

  • Dominik nods

[Ysabeau] It reminded me a little of my little dog, Lady. [Ysabeau] We had to leave her behind in Greywatch. [Ysabeau] I hope she had a good life. [Dominik] I don't like dogs. [Ysabeau] That's too bad, because Rye likes you. [Ysabeau] He doesn't bark or anything when you come to visit. [Dominik] I know how to handle dogs. [Ysabeau] I can understand why you might not like dogs in general, but I hope some dogs can be excepted from your rules. [Dominik] we'll see.

  • Ysabeau smiles up at you.

[Dominik] I don't think I'd like kobolds very much. [Ysabeau] Maybe not. I'm not sure that many people *do* like kobolds, so you're probably in good company. [Ysabeau] Would you want to come to Kholm, if you can? [Dominik] I'd go on this trip with you, if I'm able.

  • Ysabeau slips her hand into yours.

[Ysabeau] I'd like that.

  • Dominik looks down at your hand in his... seeming as if he wants to say something, but remains silent

[Ysabeau] Did you see Verity's new girlfriend? [Dominik] Who? [Ysabeau] Mlle. Hysell. Odeliève. She's kind of cute. [Dominik] I didn't really notice. [Ysabeau] I did. It sort of hurt a little... I don't know why it should.

  • Ysabeau leans her head against your arm.

[Dominik] Maybe you regret leaving her... just a little.

  • Ysabeau nods.

[Ysabeau] Like I told you... I still care for Verity, even now. [Ysabeau] But I have you, and I'm so much happier with you... [Ysabeau] Verity was lovely, but our relationship was really quite one-sided. The ball was always in her court. [Dominik] I'm not someone to make people happy. [Ysabeau] You keep saying that, yet my feelings put the lie to your words.

  • Ysabeau smiles up at you.

[Ysabeau] I know something bad happened... [Ysabeau] You can talk to me about it if you like, or not. It's up to you.

  • Ysabeau turns her head downwards again, leaning it against your arm once more, and stroking your hand with her fingers.

[Dominik] Why are you so kind to me? So patient. I don't deserve either.

  • Dominik is tense under your touch

[Ysabeau] Because I want to be. [Ysabeau] Because I...

  • Dominik stands quickly

[Dominik] You don't understand. I don't understand and haven't been able to work it out myself.

  • Ysabeau looks up at you, wondering and startled by your sudden movement.

[Ysabeau] What don't I understand?

  • Ysabeau reaches her other hand to clasp your hand between hers.
  • Dominik looks down, emotions very torn on his face.

[Dominik] I've made such a mistake and I didn't even know I was making it. [Dominik] and I don't know how to deal with it. [Ysabeau] Well... sometimes it can help just to get it off your chest. [Dominik] I can't... not here. [Ysabeau] That's fine. We could go somewhere else. The meeting's pretty well done, anyway. [Ysabeau] I mean, if you want to talk about it. [Dominik] Stay, enjoy the meeting... I need stay a while longer anyway. Then after. [Ysabeau] All right.

  • Ysabeau pulls your face down gently for a quick kiss.

[Ysabeau] Would you like to visit the refreshments table with me?

  • Dominik glances at his empty cup

[Dominik] might as well [Ysabeau] Great.

  • Ysabeau smiles warmly.

[Ysabeau] Follow me into the light, my shadowstruck lover.

  • Ysabeau grins impishly; must be a line from some song or something.

[Dominik] [m] I'm not dead yet [Ysabeau] [w] Neither am I.

  • Ysabeau leads Dom out towards the glittering refreshments table.
  • Dominik notices Ilphere, Seth, and Sanadhil engrossed in conversation.

[Dominik] that's always and interesting omen.

  • Dominik heads that way
  • Ysabeau follows

  • Sanadhil waits for Ilphere to step away form Walther, and becons her over
  • Ilphere picks up a pastry and saunters over...

[Sanadhil] This expedition has reminded me of something else Phedre said - an exciting prospect, I think [Ilphere] What is that...? [Sanadhil] She suggested that it is possibly not only the Serpent who used an Arch to communicate to its followers, initially. [Sanadhil] We know the houses were nomadic, and had traveled some time before they arrived here [Sanadhil] *that* would be an exciting find! [Ilphere] yes... yes...! [Ilphere] Oh Sanadhil... [Ilphere] Theron's dream... [Sanadhil] oh? [Ilphere] There was an Arch, buried in sand. [Sanadhil] :o

  • Sanadhil 's eyes light up
  • Ilphere nods excitedly.

[Sanadhil] We must go on this expedition! [Ilphere] I agree...! [Sanadhil] What it would mean.... [Ilphere] There is no way of knowing whether the dream was literal, of course... but my feeling is that it is a definite possibility...! [Sanadhil] I think this is something we can safely tell the others. [Sanadhil] M. Argo will certainly be excited, I expect [Sanadhil] I expect the most resistance from the Countess, as always... [Ilphere] Of course...

  • Ilphere rolls her eyes.

[Sanadhil] I had the most frustrating conversation with her the other day...

  • Sanadhil shakes his head

[Ilphere] I can imagine... [Ilphere] About what you said the other day...? The Serpent...? [Sanadhil] Among other things... I admit I've blocked most of it from my memory.

  • Ilphere nods with sympathy...

[Sanadhil] We were discussing my interview with the Reverend Father [Sanadhil] She seemed concerned that I didn’t divulge everything I know in great detail... The fact of the matter is, I let him lead the conversation, and answered all he asked until I was dismissed :p [Ilphere] Ugh... [Ilphere] But listen. Sanadhil....! [Ilphere] There are other things in Theron's dream journal... Oh, my... [Ilphere] About the destruction of the Rat...

  • Sanadhil shakes his head, trying to dismiss the lingering frustration

[Sanadhil] oh? [Ilphere] Theron saw a huge pair of stone arms crushing a rat... [Ilphere] Like the ones Seth spoke of...!

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] I wonder if the Golem wasn't used against them somehow? [Ilphere] Exactly...!

  • Ilphere has become very animated, waving her hands around, although still keeping her voice relatively low.

[Sanadhil] what there much else of interest? [Ilphere] Oh yes, oh yes...! [Ilphere] The Rademacher Patriarch... Thaleus [Ilphere] He said the Wheel must turn true... [Ilphere] And then there was something with the serpents from Phedre's hair - a clear marker of her association with Vrag, biting him,,, and the black ichor dripping from his face, just like in my own visions... [Ilphere] Sanadhil, I think there really may be some association between the Rademacher line and the Serpent, or the Arch, or both... Some kind of association...

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] it seems likely [Ilphere] Something they did... to ensure that the wheel would turn the way they thought it ought to... whatever that was...! [Sanadhil] Do you wonder of there is any connection between the wheel and the arch? [Ilphere] The blackness... it is a mark of our... taint... if that is the right word... [Ilphere] I do not wonder. [Ilphere] I am sure of it...! [Sanadhil] but what? [Sanadhil] hmm [Ilphere] But what, indeed... [Ilphere] Ever since I saw the stars turn above the Arch... I have thought there must be a link...!

  • Sanadhil nods
  • Sanadhil shakes his head

[Sanadhil] Maybe it is a matter of simple geometry :p [Ilphere] I do not know... but I don't think so... [Sanadhil] or... balance, perhaps? [Ilphere] I need to figure out what this all means... Something is trying to tell us something... [Ilphere] And in Theron's dream, he was punished for his inability to understand...

  • Sanadhil nods

[Ilphere] The Smith, the patriarch... smashed his legs with a hammer... [Sanadhil] :o [Sanadhil] have there been any notable Rademacher patriarchs? [Ilphere] I believe that Thaleus Rademacher is the one represented in these visions. [Sanadhil] Hmmm - he is quite early, isn't he? [Sanadhil] and important...

  • Ilphere nods...!

[Sanadhil] Hmm [Sanadhil] I suppose any records that old are not easily accessible [Sanadhil] have you tried? [Ilphere] I have been sifting through what I can, but so far no luck... I am hoping that perhaps a Princess might have more access to them...

  • Sanadhil smiles

[Sanadhil] That would be convenient [Ilphere] He practically created the Way of the Wheel...

  • Ilphere murmurs to herself...

[Ilphere] The Wheel must turn true...

  • Sanadhil nods

[Ilphere] What are they trying to tell us...? [Sanadhil] if we knew what they did, it would be easier... [Sanadhil] is the Almas Genera a later text?

  • Ilphere nods...

[Ilphere] It's believed that much of his writing was incorporated into it. [Sanadhil] perhaps there is a church scholar who has tried to distinguish those passages... [Sanadhil] it may be worth a careful study

  • Sanadhil frowns a little though

[Ilphere] Very careful...

  • Seth wanders over to join your conversation.

[Sanadhil] indeed [Sanadhil] Good evening M. Argo :) [Seth] Good evening to the both of you. [Ilphere] Oh, good evening Seth...! [Sanadhil] What did you think of Mr. Walther's expedition? [Ilphere] we are both very excited about it...! @_@ [Seth] Well, it is most intriguing. [Ilphere] (this is obviously an understatement) [Sanadhil] yes quite [Sanadhil] There is a slight possibility that it may have some relevance to your own interests as well [Seth] Oh? I'm afraid I don't see it.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] I still believe that the Serpent was a human god. [Sanadhil] And we know that the other tribes that came here came likely from the east... [Sanadhil] they had travelled some time... [Seth] Yes, I agree. [Ilphere] Oh Seth, the Arch...!

  • Ilphere blurts out, unable to contain herself.

[Sanadhil] It is possible that the Serpent cult is not the only one to have had one! [Sanadhil] I was considering this... [Sanadhil] And it turns out that Theron Rademachr has had a very suggestive dream along the same lines...

  • Ilphere nods rapidly.

[Sanadhil] Of an arch buried in the sand.

  • Sanadhil is almost grinning with excitement

[Seth] Another arch ... how curious. Still ... I would want some confirmation that there is such an arch before we journey so far. [Sanadhil] now, surely there must be many ruins scattered across the landscape.... but the possibility is incredibly exciting [Sanadhil] He plans to use teleportation to bring us to Kholm [Sanadhil] and travel to the ruins from there [Sanadhil] which makes it a much more feasible time commitment [Dominik] To the silver desert eh?

  • Dominik comments as he arrives

[Sanadhil] he was speaking of being gone a matter of weeks [Sanadhil] It is not in the desert proper - on its border. [Seth] It is not that I am unintrigued ... it is rather that I feel quite loath to step outside the city for any reason. The ... the other Seth experienced palpable pain upon doing so. [Sanadhil] :o [Sanadhil] hmm. [Ilphere] Oh my...! [Sanadhil] I suppose there are other physical manifestations of the connection with the city....

  • Ysabeau slips up beside Dominik, having made a quick detour to grab him and herself something to drink.
  • Ysabeau passes the glass to Dom.

[Ysabeau] There you go.

  • Sanadhil nods to the two new arrivals

[Ysabeau] Can I get anything for anyone else? :) [Seth] Yes ... In fact at some point tonight I should speak to all of our little group, together. [Seth] I have news.

  • Dominik nods a thanks

[Ilphere] Oh...? [Dominik] maybe you can bring a bag of dirt or a small memento to remind you of home. Make it hurt less. [Seth] Well ... perhaps. [Sanadhil] or some other kind of precaution [Sanadhil] potions, or similar [Seth] Is M. Walther amenable to having his research agenda altered for such a purpose? [Sanadhil] His purpose is to explore the ruins. [Sanadhil] I don't think it requires any alteration! [Seth] Perhaps not. Would there be others accompanying us, though? [Ilphere] Precisely...!

  • Ysabeau looks curious, having missed the point about which Seth is speaking, but is too polite to interrupt.

[Sanadhil] Possibly - but I don't see the harm [Sanadhil] I'm not certain who all is interested [Sanadhil] Honestly, there may be some interest from some of the new, younger, members, but the rest rarely seem interested in these ventures.

  • Alma and Danyel happen by the group as they head for some refreshments :3
  • Guillame is looking for Fern

[Alma] Good evening all. Discussing Mr. Walther's proposal? [Ilphere] Oh... yes! [Dominik] Can't keep these people from exploring strange far off places.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Alma] I would never have guessed the Society would be so adventurous. [Sanadhil] Why not? [Seth] We've been to a foreign plane twice in the past few months. [Danyel] (someone wave over Guillame :) [Alma] Ah, sorry, I meant before I joined, Mr. Argo. [Sanadhil] Hmmm... [Ysabeau] I've *always* wanted to travel!

  • Sanadhil glances around the group, and will wave over Guillame when he wanders by
  • Guillame joins the group

[Sanadhil] I live to visit exciting places - the travel itself I can do without. [Ysabeau] I just haven't had the means, nor the freedom, really, until recently. [Alma] You must admit it seems rather bookish from the outside :) [Guillame] Hello everybody... what's going on? [Sanadhil] we were discussing Mr. Walther's expedition...

  • Ysabeau nods enthusiastically.

[Sanadhil] But I believe M. Argo wanted to speak to us all about another matter? [Alma] Oh? [Ilphere] It is full of exciting possibilities...! [Ysabeau] Oh? [Seth] Yes ... well, a few matters, actually. In the interest of keeping everyone informed about things, as we had discussed.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Seth] But I suggest we do so in another chamber - perhaps the cellar would be best to insure that we are not interrupted?

  • Sanadhil smiles

[Ilphere] Certainly... [Ysabeau] The cellar? [Sanadhil] the others will think we are raiding the wine stocks [Ysabeau] How curiously appropriate.

  • Ysabeau says dryly.
  • Sanadhil eyes her
  • Guillame sighs, and mentally resolves to find his mentor later.

[Guillame] (again ;) ) [Sanadhil] Shall we, then? [Danyel] (we can do solos at the meeting if people still have people to talk to later :) [Alma] I suppose...

  • Seth will lead the way down.
  • Dominik is thinking about raiding the wine

[Seth] So first of all, I have a brief demonstration for you.

  • Seth stands beside the wall and melds into it.

[Alma] :o

  • Alma casts Detect Magic

[Ysabeau] Uh, that's impressive and a little creepy.

  • Sanadhil casts arcane sight

[Ysabeau] You're not turning into Char, I hope...? [Ilphere] Fascinating...! [Ilphere] Your abilities are increasing...! [Sanadhil] no no...

  • Sanadhil says to Ysabeau

[Dominik] Now ill have to keep an eye on walls floors and ceilings. [Sanadhil] Certainly not.

  • Seth steps back out.

[Ysabeau] That's a relief. I'd rather not spontaneously develop tattoos and implanted bells. [Alma] (Is it a magical effect?) [Alma] Mr. Argo, is this... something you brought back with you? or... something you've come to... understand? [Seth] While I am not turning into Char, Mlle. Chanuier, I do believe I am gradually, and relatively spontaneously, acquiring those abilities, through ongoing communion with the city itself.

  • Ysabeau half-smiles.

[Seth] In speaking to the Warlord I have come to think very differently about my abilities, although she does not understand them any more than I do. [Ysabeau] What are your beliefs, M. Argo? [Ysabeau] About them

  • Ysabeau clarifies that she doesn't need your religious views.

[Seth] I believe they come from the city itself. Perhaps from the remnants of the souls of dead emperors, perhaps from ... something higher. [Ysabeau] And why would you have been singled out for this? [Seth] And soon, I intend to mount an expedition to the under-Arch itself, to meld with it as I did in the dream realm. [Alma] Are you certain that's wise? [Ysabeau] Or do you know someone or some others who also have these strange abilities? [Alma] You've just begun to manifest this... change... [Seth] I do not know of any others and I do not know any reason why I should have been chosen for this. [Seth] Certainly I do not think it to be without risk, but the traveling through walls is not risky.

  • Sanadhil eyes Ilphere
  • Ilphere meets your glance but keeps quiet.

[Sanadhil] would it not be easier for you to travel down through the upper arch? [Sanadhil] and for that matter - have you considered joining with it in a similar way? [Seth] I have considered it, yes. But I'm not sure I can travel through from the upper to the lower arch. [Seth] And it would be quite conspicuous. [Sanadhil] hardly. [Guillame] Well... we at least have an idea of what to expect in the lower arch, and, if I understood things correctly before, isn't the upper part the bit that takes people's souls? [Sanadhil] The arch receives little attention, other than from the order [Sanadhil] Not necessarily [Sanadhil] When the matriarch passed through the first time, it was through the lower portion [Alma] We truly do not know the nature of the parts of the Arch. [Seth] I do wish to find out if I can speak to the Matriarch again, from this side. [Ilphere] That would be most interesting... [Sanadhil] indeed [Seth] But at any rate ... this trip need not be soon. I have much research to do before I can go. [Seth] I simply brought us down here for my ... demonstration. [Seth] Now let us return to the festivities!

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] thank you.

  • Seth avoids the temptation to travel upstairs through the walls.

[Alma] Mr. Argo, I would very much like to perform a divination before you attempt anything like that... it seems very very risky.

  • Sanadhil heads towards the stairs

[Seth] Of course, if you wish, Countess.

  • Dominik heads up

[Alma] While we did learn valuable information from Char's similar experiment... it was rash at best.

  • Seth doesn't answer that.

[Ysabeau] Did you have anything else, Seth? [Ysabeau] It's taking us rather a long time to grab a few more bottles for the revelers. :) [Seth] The rest is less urgent. [Ilphere] Yes... I have something to discuss with you as well M. Argo, but it can wait...!

  • Ysabeau follows everyone up.
  • Vianca approaches you as you emerge from the cellar.
  • Alma sighs and heads upstairs.
  • Guillame heads up too
  • Sanadhil nods to her as she does
  • Ysabeau smiles for Vianca.

[Vianca] May I speak with you for a moment, Mlle. deQuessenet? M. Orecalo, if you are also free...? [Sanadhil] Good evening, Mme Belden. [Sanadhil] of course. [Ysabeau] Oh, there was something I've been wanting to ask you, too, Mme. Belden!

  • Ilphere follows Sanadhil upstairs...
  • Vianca takes you aside for a moment.
  • Ilphere goes along...!
  • Ysabeau stays near so she can ask her question(s).
  • Sanadhil goes with Vianca

[Vianca] [q] It was some months ago, but you may recall I had hoped to contact the husband of the late Matriarch, Rab Belden?

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] [q] have you heard from him?

  • Ilphere nods eagerly.

[Vianca] [q] He has arrived in the city - in fact, he is here, in my office upstairs - and is willing to speak with you about the matters we had previously discussed. I was uncertain if you wished for your friends to be present for this conversation. [Ilphere] [q] I think... it would be simpler if they were not...

  • Ilphere thinks of whiny, judgy Alma.
  • Ilphere looks to Sanadhil for his opinion, though.

[Sanadhil] [q] Considering all that is going on... it *may* make sense, nevertheless - is there space? :o [Vianca] [q] You could speak in one of the study rooms, I suppose, if my office isn't large enough. [Sanadhil] [q] Would he be willing to speak to all of us? I know you had said he is quite reclusive [Vianca] [q] I believe he is willing, given the subject matter under consideration.

  • Sanadhil sighs a little, andlooks to Ilphere before nodding

[Vianca] Very well, then. [Ilphere] [q] I just don't know... If you think it is wise, though, then all right... [Sanadhil] I'll go speak to them

  • Sanadhil turns back and beckons over any of the group who have stuck around
  • Ysabeau is very nearby, actually.
  • Ysabeau smiles at you, waiting patiently for her turn to speak with Vianca.

[Sanadhil] (anyone else? I'm not going out of my way to collect folks ;) [Seth] (sure!)

  • Seth heads over, sounds like fun!

[Guillame] (Yeah, I'll stick with the group)

  • Sanadhil eyes those remaining

[Sanadhil] [q] We have a very timely opportunity this evening, it seems

  • Ysabeau comes over.

[Ysabeau] [q] Hmmm?

  • Ysabeau looks puzzled and curious.

[Guillame] [q] Oh? [Sanadhil] [q] To speak to Rab Belden - Matriarch Pasith's Husband [Ilphere] [q] Rab Belden is here! [Ysabeau] :O [Ysabeau] Really?!! [Alma] Pardon?

  • Guillame blinks

[Sanadhil] [q] we need to keep this discrete. [Ysabeau] [q] I mean, really?

  • Ilphere nods.

[Sanadhil] [q] we should reconvene in one of the study rooms upstairs, and Vianca will bring him in [Alma] ...

  • Seth nods.

[Dominik] [q] I can guard the door if needed.

  • Sanadhil will head upstairs
  • Ilphere heads upstairs as well.

[Alma] Was he involved in the movement of the Arch? [Sanadhil] Hopefully that will not be necessary [Sanadhil] That is what we are hoping to discuss

  • Guillame will follow them
  • Seth follows along.

[Ysabeau] (28, then for BK)

  • Vianca will join you in the study room shortly, with a man. He's perhaps in his mid-twenties, with short brown hair, pretty average-looking.
  • Vianca is now known as Rab

[Rab] Good evening.

  • Sanadhil blinks, this not being what he expected
  • Ysabeau curtseys gracefully.
  • Ilphere looks at the man quizzically.

[Sanadhil] Good evening, Monsieur? [Ysabeau] G-good evening, sir. [Rab] Vianca tells me that she considers you trustworthy, so I haven't bothered to try and make myself look seventy.

  • Ysabeau is surprised by how young he is.

[Ilphere] M. Belden...? :o

  • Ysabeau blushes prettily.

[Sanadhil] I'm sorry... I don't understand. [Rab] Yes.

  • Ysabeau surreptitiously checks his ears for pointiness.
  • Alma briefly concentrates on Rab to make sure he's not undead.
  • Rab is not undead, or an elf.

[Alma] (or not living?)

  • Ilphere supposes it would be rude to cast detect magic...
  • Rab is alive.
  • Guillame tries to follow what's going on, but is rather confused

[Alma] You are the widower of Matriarch Pasith Belden?

  • Sanadhil glances at Vianca for confirmation

[Sanadhil] (and SM's :V) [Rab] Yes, that's right. [Dominik] nice trick [Ysabeau] . o O (I think I'd have liked her!) [Rab] It's not a trick. [Sanadhil] (a hahaha, rolled a 1, total of 14 ;p) [Rab] I don't know if any of you are familiar with the Seventh... [Guillame] (sm 36)

  • Sanadhil blinks again

[Ilphere] (K:... religion?)

  • Alma 's jaw drops
  • Sanadhil eyes Alma

[Rab] (sure)

  • Guillame shakes his head

[Sanadhil] I have heard of them... :o

  • Ysabeau 's bardic heart skips a few beats.

[Ilphere] (39) [Sanadhil] but I know little of the details [Sanadhil] ... [Guillame] (K religion 18) [Sanadhil] I suppose we ought to make introductions, rather than staring, my apologies. [Rab] (I: you'd have heard of them, as heretics who got themselves executed...)

  • Seth nods.

[Rab] No worries. [Alma] You're one of the Seventh, then? [Rab] (G: with an 18, you don't know) [Rab] Yes, I am. [Ysabeau] I'm Ysabeau Chanuier... pleased to meet you. [Ilphere] Ilphère deQuessenet...! [Sanadhil] Sanadhìl Orecalo [Ilphere] We are all very glad that you agreed to meet us..! [Guillame] My name is Guillame Rionet, of House Rat. [Dominik] Dominik Rademacher [Seth] Seth Argo. [Rab] Well, I wouldn't for just anyone, but Vianca is family :)

  • Alma leans a little into Danyel.

[Guillame] (^^ SM?) [Alma] Sister Alma de Béziers. [Sanadhil] Nevertheless! [Rab] (Danyel will also introduce himself.) [Sanadhil] Mlle de Quessenet and myself had originally hoped to speak to you about the moving of the arch [Rab] I understand you're interested in the Arch, yes. [Sanadhil] But we may have further questions now.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Rab] I wasn't present at the time it was moved, but I had the story from Pasith, of course, as well as others who were there. [Sanadhil] Could you tell us what you do know, please? [Sanadhil] we have uncovered one account, by Kalman vak Andras, but the more we know, the better

  • Rab will relate the basic story of the moving of the Arch.

[Rab] (which perhaps I can write up and post later, as a time-saver?) [Sanadhil] (sure) [Ysabeau] (sure) [Ilphere] (awesome)

  • Sanadhil consideres and jots down some notes

[Guillame] (ace!) [Seth] (he mentions the girl, right?) [Rab] (yes) [Seth] What about the girl? What happened to her? [Rab] She disappeared. [Ysabeau] What was her name? [Rab] Pasith later attempted to locate her, but not knowing her name or much about her, it was unsuccessful.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Seth] Did she simply vanish on the spot, or travel into the Arch itself? [Rab] My understanding is, she stepped beneath the Arch and vanished. [Rab] They were uncertain if she was even human - some considered her a manifestation of the force in the Arch itself. [Seth] Hmm. [Sanadhil] what was the goal in moving the arch? Did you know what would happen? [Rab] They believed that it would release the Rat, and end the process of ... feeding souls to the Arch, so to speak, which they considered worthy purposes. [Alma] They had to know that it would also release Vrag... [Rab] I don't think anyone fully understood what would happen, though. But Pasith had Communed with Ox, and was encouraged to proceed with moving the Arch.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Rab] An avatar of Ox assisted in the process, in fact. [Rab] So anything that was done, was done with the consent of the gods.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Rab] What that says about the gods... I admit I don't understand it myself.

  • Ysabeau looks a bit stunned but also pensive.

[Sanadhil] hmm. [Rab] I have a record of what she asked during that Commune.

  • Rab can provide that too (in a post ;)

[Sanadhil] that would be excellent, thank you! [Ysabeau] Yes, thank you...! [Sanadhil] Do you know anything about the Serpent?

  • Ysabeau is a little overwhelmed to be in his presence.

[Rab] I know of its existence. [Ysabeau] Is it a human god? [Rab] I don't know. [Rab] If it is... I don't know what that means for the cycle of lives.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Rab] Rat was confusing enough... [Seth] What about the Center? [Sanadhil] Still is, perhaps [Rab] I have been there, once. [Ilphere] What is it... what is it like...?

  • Ilphere wonders about her experience...

[Alma] Did you pass through Their presence? [Rab] I remember it hazily... it's as if my mind tried to put it into a form I could comprehend.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Rab] It was like a large, white room. [Rab] I could feel presences there, but not see them. [Rab] And they spoke to me. [Ilphere] :o [Ilphere] Yes... [Ysabeau] How many of them were there, do you know? [Seth] Not ... grey, or cold? [Rab] Not at all - bright, and neither warm nor cold. [Seth] Hmm ... that doesn't make sense. [Rab] No?

  • Rab smiles slightly.

[Rab] Sometimes it doesn't make sense to me either.

  • Alma looks at Seth

[Alma] What do you mean? [Sanadhil] It fits with ...Phéria's vision [Ysabeau] How many, do you know..? [Seth] I presumed that the place where I was, where the other Seth saw ... uhhh ....

  • Seth trails off, not sure how to finish that sentence.

[Alma] The Centre? [Rab] I had a sense of several, but I couldn't number specifically, I'm afraid.

  • Ysabeau nods.

[Ysabeau] I understand.

  • Ysabeau smiles warmly at him.

[Ilphere] That does sound the same, yes... [Sanadhil] Can you tell us about the Seventh?

  • Ysabeau nods eagerly.

[Sanadhil] You're... special servants of the Gods? [Ysabeau] What do you do? How do you come to be? [Rab] We are individuals who were selected to return to this world after our final normal lifetime. How we're selected, or for what purpose, I don't know. [Rab] As for what we do... we try to help, I suppose. [Alma] Do you work together? [Rab] We have certain advantages - we age very slowly, for instance - but we aren't much more powerful than a normal human. [Rab] Some of us do. [Ilphere] Are there... a lot of you?

  • Rab says to Alma.

[Sanadhil] and... help what? [Ysabeau] Or whom? [Rab] Help this world. Help people. [Ysabeau] Are you all humans or are there elves who become Seventh, too? [Sanadhil] that's.... a very vague calling. [Rab] Well, it's up to us as individuals how we choose to interpret it. [Alma] M. Orecalo says that the Order of the Black Down may be looking for someone who they think is, or will become a Seventh... to put them towards Vrag's purposes...

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] Indeed

  • Rab nods.

[Ysabeau] A female. [Ysabeau] Supposedly she'll be in the palace. [Ilphere] Possibly... Chancellor THeonee... [Rab] I'll do what I can to help you. I'll be remaining in the city for a while - I'm not sure just how long, but a few months perhaps. [Seth] I also need to speak with you, sir ... about a personal matter. [Rab] Oh? [Seth] It need not be today. [Rab] Very well, then.

  • Seth says gravely.

[Rab] I've travelled far to be here, and I'm quite tired. I hope we can speak again before too long, though. Vianca can put you in touch with me. [Alma] Well, then we will leave you to rest.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Ilphere] We will look forward to seeing you soon... and thank you again for coming...! [Sanadhil] Yes we greatly appreciate your assistance [Seth] Thank you for this. [Guillame] [q] Thanks... [Rab] I'm glad to meet all of you.

  • Alma will dawdle just a smidge.

[Ysabeau] Thank you, sir...

  • Sanadhil will leave him then, stepping out into the hallway to mingle some more

[Alma] I just have one quick question... [Rab] Yes?

  • Alma asks when the others have left.

[Alma] Do you know Eza Arguelles?

  • Ysabeau curtseys and leaves...

[Rab] Oh, yes, I know her well :)

  • Guillame goes

[Alma] So she's... Seventh? [Rab] I haven't seen her for many years, but yes, she is. [Alma] Her daughter, Sister Biatrix, told me about her, but it was just... hard to believe, even from a friend.

  • Rab nods.

[Alma] I guess I owe her an apology. [Alma] Thank you :) [Rab] You're welcome.

  • Alma smiles sincerely and leaves quickly.

  • Alma will approach you, sans Danyel, near the end of the meeting.
  • Sanadhil will fetch himself a glass of wine having hardly had a chance since the meeting

broke up [Alma] One of the study rooms is free, if you'd a moment, M. Orecalo.

  • Sanadhil nods and will accompany her
  • Alma will shut the door after us for some privacy.

[Sanadhil] This is about the items, or something else? [Alma] The items. I have had the opportunity to examine the articles further. [Alma] I was still unable to discern their character, but I did learn a little bit more. [Sanadhil] please go on.

  • Sanadhil listens

[Alma] It was with great shock ... [Alma] ... that I learned the succubus is over three thousand years old. [Alma] Older than the Empire itself. [Sanadhil] hmm. [Alma] 3023 years old, to be exact... if I'm not somehow mistaken. [Sanadhil] it is very possible [Alma] I'm not sure if that will ever be of use to you... perhaps you can drop the tidbit to increase your mystique? [Alma] It is possible, but I don't think it's likely some sort of spell. Why hide your age but not your race? [Sanadhil] I meant possible that he is that old - I don't doubt it. [Alma] Ah, yes.

  • Alma sits in a chair and sets down the cufflink and button

[Sanadhil] It makes me wonder, though, why he would care to meddle in human affairs [Alma] Who knows? [Sanadhil] indeed. [Alma] It's likely though, that he is of malicious character. [Alma] All of our experience with demons and devils shows a clear predisposition.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] you've had many? [Sanadhil] or are you speaking more broadly? [Alma] I mean us... the Church, the Empire.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] I am familiar with their tendancies

  • Alma glances at you when you say that...
  • Alma looks away.

[Sanadhil] . o O (I thought so). [Sanadhil] And I don't expect Earric is any different, in that regard. [Alma] Well, perhaps in three thousand years, anything is possible. If you see any sort of indication... perhaps that he might be willing to atone... we should know as soon as possible. [Sanadhil] Atone, I doubt [Sanadhil] However I do believe that given the choice between exile and death, he would happily chose the latter. [Alma] I believe we have experience with the success of his sort of agreement. [Sanadhil] we have? [Alma] Don't we? [Sanadhil] ahh, from the Shadow Plane, you mean [Sanadhil] the dream [Alma] Yes. [Alma] I believe the demons of his type are generally of unpredictable nature. [Sanadhil] He may have betrayed his promise to Ysstvelt - but he chose freedom. [Alma] Do you have evidence that he is not free now? [Alma] Otherwise there's no real reason to proceed as if it's an option. [Sanadhil] I have nothing that I could convince you with, I'm sure. [Sanadhil] But I suspect it. [Sanadhil] And I prefer to leave the option open [Alma] Well, I suppose that's not up to me anyway.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Alma] Perhaps he is important enough to Phedre's support that such an "easy" option will be preferrable. [Sanadhil] was there anything else? [Alma] As well... [Sanadhil] yes? [Alma] I'm not sure what rites you participate in, exactly, M. Orecalo, but seeing as the succubus is known for its enchantment powers, and Phedre herself is a bard... you might want to make arrangements with someone, perhaps Vianca Belden, to have yourself confirmed as ... [Sanadhil] I have already done so. [Alma] Good, good. [Sanadhil] And I should soon have the ability to break enchantments myself.

  • Alma looks relieved.

[Alma] Yes, but once the mind is compromised... [Alma] Anyway... that is good. [Sanadhil] I assure you, countess, I have given these matters great consideraton. [Alma] Yes... the more dangerous the situation, the more I'm inclined to worry, nonetheless. [Alma] I think that's everything though... [Alma] I don't think that I will be able to determine anything more from these items... perhaps if I think of something I will mention it again, if you still have access to them.

  • Alma stands and smooths out her robes.

[Sanadhil] of course. [Sanadhil] Thank you [Alma] Have a good evening, M. Orecalo. [Sanadhil] you as well.

  • Alma leaves the study room first.
  • Sanadhil will take a moment to finish his wine and relax before rejoining the party.

Solos

  • Sanadhil will temporarily sign out that ring of chameleon power from the society :V
  • Sanadhil also wears his...cloak
  • Sanadhil is also dressed in black
  • Nycaise is waiting for you at the appointed time.
  • Sanadhil makes sure he has some kind of timepiece as well
  • Sanadhil will cast nondetection in advance as well, and meet as directed

[Nycaise] (sundial? ;) [Sanadhil] Mlle L'Averti. [Sanadhil] (:V) [Nycaise] M. Orecalo.

  • Nycaise has her hair covered and wears a suit of leather armor.

[Sanadhil] Thank you again - do you have any further instructions? [Sanadhil] . o O (Should have thought of the hair, hrm) [Nycaise] How long do you think you'll need? [Sanadhil] That depends on how things go. Two hours maximum perhaps? Likely less. [Sanadhil] if that is too long... [Nycaise] No, that's fine.

  • Sanadhil nods, and will use the ring to make himself look more Shadar Kai
  • Nycaise eyes you.

[Nycaise] That looks all right. [Sanadhil] any suggestions for improvement? [Nycaise] No, you should pass a casual inspection.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Nycaise] Which is hopefully all that will be needed. [Sanadhil] Hopefully it won't be an issue at all

  • Nycaise nods.
  • Nycaise takes the scroll from its case and lays it out flat on the table.

[Nycaise] (The black surface seems to shift and move.) [Sanadhil] will it take us back to the library? [Nycaise] Yes, it's attached to that location.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Nycaise] Do you want me to go first? [Sanadhil] That's fine

  • Sanadhil will cast greater invis, and slip through
  • Nycaise follows.

[Nycaise] Two hours' time, then.

  • Nycaise says to your general vicinity.

[Sanadhil] Two hours. [DiablotinNarrator] Looking back through the portal, you can see the room you left at the Society, but with its colours removed.

  • Sanadhil looks around, and if there is noe one about, will cast Zone of Silence, and then Locate Creature on Dozilva

[DiablotinNarrator] You are in the Shadow Plane library you have visited once before. The shelves of books and scrolls are very tempting... ;) [DiablotinNarrator] There is no one you can see, apart from Nycaise.

  • Sanadhil checks the shelves to figure out how the library is organized, if it is, so that he can find his way back :x

[DiablotinNarrator] You seem to be in the poetry section. [DiablotinNarrator] You can sense the direction Dozilva is in, fortunately.

  • Sanadhil will make his way towards her, then, being careful despite his spells and other precautions

[DiablotinNarrator] You travel down - the library seems to be organized in a big spiral, you think.

  • Sanadhil pays attention to signage :x

[DiablotinNarrator] You pass a shadar-kai man in a grey robe, but he doesn't seem to notice you - absorbed in his reading. [DiablotinNarrator] After a short while, you reach what you think must be the ground level of the tower. Dozilva sits at a desk of pale stone, dealing with someone who's protesting that he saw the book on the shelf just last month, so how can it be missing?

  • Sanadhil waits to see if she can make them go away on her own
  • Dozilva seems accustomed to dealing with annoying patrons :p But still, won't your invis have run out by now?

[Sanadhil] (True)

  • Sanadhil will cast suggestion while the dude is arguing and not paying attention to me :V

[Dozilva] (hee, ok) [Sanadhil] YoOu should take her word for it, and come back another time and see if its been found, perhaps? [Dozilva] (he agrees that seems like a sensible idea and departs) [Dozilva] Why, thank you.

  • Dozilva says to you once he's gone.
  • Sanadhil smiles at her, wondering if she will recognize him in this guise

[Dozilva] I judge by your...unusual accent that you're a visiting scholar?

  • Dozilva says with a slight smile.

[Sanadhil] Yes, visiting from very far away. [Sanadhil] And somewhat overdue, perhaps? [Dozilva] Oh? [Dozilva] Ahhh.

  • Dozilva nods.

[Dozilva] Come to borrow another book? [Sanadhil] I came to see you. [Dozilva] I see... [Dozilva] Well, perhaps I can take a short break. It's quiet.

  • Dozilva stands.

[Dozilva] Would you care to walk outside?

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] Sounds lovely.

  • Dozilva comes around the desk, then, and will lead you out of the library and into a foreign city.
  • Sanadhil looks around all curious like

[Sanadhil] . o O (So dark, and no stars... hrm) [Dozilva] (it seems to be a seaside city? At least, it sort of sounds/smells like one. The buildings are built of white stone, and the roads slope steeply, as if the whole thing is built on a cliff or something.) [Sanadhil] I'm sorry it took me so long. [Dozilva] I had begun to think you would not come. [Sanadhil] Things have been somewhat chaotic... But I hadn't forgotten.

  • Dozilva nods.

[Dozilva] You've learned the language well. [Sanadhil] I've been practicing. [Sanadhil] Although my accent is off, isn't it?

  • Sanadhil blames Sendhel.

[Dozilva] It's somewhat old-fashioned.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] That would make sense [Dozilva] Oh? [Sanadhil] I took another expedition to Sarasagel. [Sanadhil] One of my companions cast a spell that took us into the dream of the sleeping queen... [Dozilva] I see... [Sanadhil] It was very complex [Sanadhil] a sort of mirror of my city, only as though your people had never been driven out.

  • Dozilva listens.

[Sanadhil] theere were different versions of ourselves there, who belonged to that place [Sanadhil] and we lived as them for a while, having forgotten our true selves.... [Sanadhil] Eventually, she kicked us out.

  • Sanadhil smiles

[Dozilva] That must have been very... disconcerting. [Sanadhil] It seemed a lot longer than it was. [Sanadhil] And.. Somewhat. [Dozilva] So you had time to pick up the language. [Sanadhil] I already read it, but strangely there is little opportunity to speak it in Diablotin. [Dozilva] Heh. [Sanadhil] how have you been? [Dozilva] Oh, I keep busy. [Dozilva] But, it has been a little boring.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] then I'm doubly sorry. [Dozilva] You came here to entertain me, I hope? [Sanadhil] To entertain you? [Dozilva] To make it less boring.

  • Sanadhil raises his eyebrows, wondering what she means by that? :V

[Sanadhil] ahh, well, I hope so - though I can't stay too long [Dozilva] How long? [Sanadhil] I need to be back at the library in...

  • Sanadhil checks the timepiece

[Sanadhil] a little over an hour and a half. [Dozilva] Ah... that's not very long at all. [Dozilva] At least, I think it's not. [Sanadhil] not especially, I'm afraid.

  • Dozilva looks at your timepiece.

[Sanadhil] Unfortunately, I still have no way of coming and going on my own. [Dozilva] I have been reading about your world. 'Hours'. How interesting. [Sanadhil] how do your people mark time, then? [Dozilva] Changes in winds, tides, how plants grow...

  • Sanadhil nods

[Dozilva] When we grow tired, when we wake up... [Dozilva] Do you wish to see more of the city, or my home...? [Sanadhil] is it close? [Dozilva] Close enough. [Sanadhil] (is she hitting on me? :V) [Dozilva] (sm check) [Sanadhil] (28) [Dozilva] (you think she is waiting to see how things go ;) [Sanadhil] (Fair enough ^-^) [Sanadhil] Then I would be honoured.

  • Dozilva will walk with you to a narrow alley that tunnels into the cliff. Turning there, she leads you up a rope ladder to her ... apartment? room, anyway.
  • Sanadhil looks around the alley as well as the room
  • Dozilva 's living quarters are quite small, just one room, but with a window that looks out over the black ocean.
  • Dozilva 's mostly got books, it looks like.
  • Sanadhil is shocked ;p
  • Dozilva draws up the ladder after you.
  • Sanadhil casually peruses her bookshelves as she does

[Sanadhil] Its very cozy. [Dozilva] Small. Someday maybe I can have a bigger one.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Dozilva] We don't have tea, but I could make you some broth. [Sanadhil] I don't want to be any trouble. [Dozilva] It's not often I have such honoured guests.

  • Sanadhil feels a little out of his depth in terms if etiquette :V

[Sanadhil] ahh, thank you then.

  • Sanadhil looks around the tiny little room again, and smiles
  • Dozilva gets two small bowls from her shelf and scoops some kind of powder into them, then adds water warmed over the fire.

[Sanadhil] What kind of broth is it?

  • Dozilva offers you one and keeps the other for herself. It's kind of ... salty and tasty, maybe like miso? ;)

[Dozilva] Made from seaweed. [Sanadhil] ahh.... its quite good :)

  • Sanadhil says after an experimental sip
  • Dozilva seems pleased that you like it.

[Sanadhil] It reminds me almost of something from back home... [Dozilva] Oh? [Sanadhil] A soup [Sanadhil] It's similar... I don't know if I could describe it though :o

  • Dozilva nods.

[Sanadhil] so, you live here, you work at the library, you read a lot... [Dozilva] Yes. I'm quite boring. [Sanadhil] I doubt that. [Sanadhil] Why did you get sent after me, then? [Dozilva] It's part of my job, to find lost books. [Dozilva] Normally it doesn't take that much effort. [Sanadhil] ahh [Sanadhil] How did you track it down? Magic?

  • Dozilva nods.

[Sanadhil] and the creature you had with you? [Sanadhil] was it.. yours?

  • Dozilva lets a little snake coil down her arm.

[Dozilva] Niskic. My... companion? [Sanadhil] ahh, I see :o

  • Dozilva pets it affectionately, then sends it off.

[Sanadhil] He...? seemed much larger. [Dozilva] There is a spell... makes things larger than they are? [Sanadhil] ahhh, of course.

  • Sanadhil shakes his head, as though he should have thought of that

[Dozilva] More impressive ^-^ [Sanadhil] quite, yes!

  • Sanadhil mentally reexamines that conversation for intentional double entendres o_O

[Dozilva] (heh)

  • Dozilva sips her broth.
  • Sanadhil also

[Dozilva] ...Will you let me see you in your true form?

  • Sanadhil glances at the only window which looks out to sea, and lets the spell effect fall

[Dozilva] Mm. I prefer you this way. [Dozilva] Your hair... [Sanadhil] ahh... yes. [Sanadhil] ¬_¬

  • Sanadhil still misses his hair :(

[Sanadhil] I was... ill. [Dozilva] It looks very nice.

  • Sanadhil runs a hand through it somewhat self consciously

[Sanadhil] It will grow back.... eventually :/

  • Dozilva reaches over to touch it, not at all shyly.

[Dozilva] It is not bad like this. But if you want it longer, it will only take time.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Dozilva] What color is that called? [Sanadhil] Blonde. [Dozilva] I read about colours in books, but I never understand which one is which. [Dozilva] Blonde.

  • Dozilva says admiringly.

[Sanadhil] Sort of a dark-ish blonde, maybe? [Dozilva] Darkish blonde. [Dozilva] And your eyes... what is that colour? [Sanadhil] Blue-green? [Sanadhil] Or green-blue? [Dozilva] Two colours at once?

  • Dozilva looks from one to the other.

[Dozilva] They are both the same... [Sanadhil] they are.... they are sort of in between colours, maybe? [Sanadhil] This is green...

  • Sanadhil uses the ring to make his clothes change colour
  • Dozilva blinks.

[Sanadhil] and this is blue, see?

  • Dozilva nods slowly.

[Sanadhil] I didn't mean to startle you... [Dozilva] It's all right... it's not as bad as when I first came to your world. [Sanadhil] *that* must have been disconcerting...

  • Dozilva nods.

[Sanadhil] I can only imagine. [Dozilva] I had to close my eyes, it was too much, even in dark. [Dozilva] The dark time is called night, yes? [Sanadhil] yes, night. [Sanadhil] You haven't been during the day, have you? [Dozilva] No. [Sanadhil] You should sometime, if you can. [Dozilva] I can visit at any time... [Sanadhil] Well, then you definitely should. [Dozilva] To visit you? ^-^ [Sanadhil] Well, I would like that, yes. [Dozilva] I would like to see you in day. [Dozilva] I can imagine it... a little.

  • Sanadhil smiles

[Sanadhil] I should be careful, you might find someone else more interesting to look at. [Dozilva] Would you be jealous?

  • Dozilva asks, with a slight smile.
  • Sanadhil smiles a bit

[Sanadhil] I might. [Sanadhil] I do have a friend who would like to meet you though, but she is getting married. [Dozilva] And what do men in your world do when they get jealous? [Sanadhil] that depends on the man. [Dozilva] Do they kill one another in dramatic fashion? [Sanadhil] They're not *supposed* to, though it happens occasionally.

  • Dozilva nods.

[Sanadhil] I'm not really the violent type though. [Dozilva] No? [Sanadhil] I don't like violence.

  • Dozilva nods.

[Dozilva] It is quite wasteful. [Dozilva] Over foolish things, anyhow.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] yes...

  • Sanadhil smiles

[Dozilva] So, what would *you* do if you were jealous? [Sanadhil] me? :o [Dozilva] Yes, you. [Sanadhil] I don't really know :o

  • Sanadhil considers

[Dozilva] Ah.. so it has never happened. [Sanadhil] Not yet. [Dozilva] Is that because women love only you once they meet you, or because you have never loved anyone? [Sanadhil] ... [Sanadhil] I couldn't say. [Dozilva] Oh? [Sanadhil] . o O (what am I even doing :p) [Dozilva] If I am going to visit you in your world, I might need to know these things. [Dozilva] Whether I am going to be one of many. [Dozilva] I had not discussed what might happen if *I* grow jealous ;) [Sanadhil] I was starting to wonder. [Dozilva] More than likely, I would simply leave and not return. [Sanadhil] That would be disappointing. [Dozilva] I am not much of a fighter myself. [Sanadhil] No? I still wonder what you would have done if I hadn't given you back that book.

  • Sanadhil smiles

[Dozilva] Oh, empty threats ;) [Sanadhil] But there is no one back in my world worth being jealous of on my account.

  • Dozilva nods.

[Sanadhil] what about you? [Dozilva] No pretty girls or boys with blonde hair or blue eyes?

  • Dozilva teases, you think.

[Sanadhil] There are plenty, but they are mostly not very interesting. [Dozilva] Well, much like the people here, then.

  • Sanadhil smiles

[Dozilva] I have never met anyone who captured my interest for longer than a few ... intercourses? I'm sure there's a better word for that. [Sanadhil] o_O [Sanadhil] that.... entirely depends what you meant by that [Dozilva] A few times in bed together. [Sanadhil] ahh. [Dozilva] (her room doesn't seem to have a bed, you notice, now that she mentions it :o) [Sanadhil] (I was wondering about furniture) [Dozilva] (shelves built into the walls, low table - you sit on the floor.)

  • Sanadhil glances around, trying to process that and not being sure what to make of it, hrm.

[Sanadhil] Well it depends on how crude you want to be [Sanadhil] A few times sleeping together? [Dozilva] Well, I know what is crude for my people, but I don't know for you. [Dozilva] But you are not sleeping... [Sanadhil] no, generally not.

  • Sanadhil wonders if he is blushing, not having really expected the conversation to take this turn :V

[Dozilva] A silly term, then, but if it is correct, I will use it. [Dozilva] 'Sleeping together'.

  • Dozilva tries it out.

[Sanadhil] you could also say 'fucking'. [Dozilva] That sounds more ... like what it is. [Sanadhil] Its more... crass... possibly more honest, yes.

  • Dozilva nods.

[Dozilva] So did you come here because you want to be... fucking... with me? Or am I misunderstanding? [Sanadhil] I came because... [Sanadhil] I wanted to see you, and to let you know that I hadn't forgotten. [Dozilva] Oh. [Sanadhil] I hadn't really made any assumptions about fucking.

  • Dozilva nods.

[Sanadhil] I wasn't sure what you wanted. [Dozilva] I'm curious what it would be like with you. [Sanadhil] But I think you're very interesting, and very beautiful. [Dozilva] Good. [Sanadhil] And... I certainly wouldn't want to disappoint you, since I did come here to be entertaining. [Dozilva] We don't have time now, not to do proper fucking. To be in too much of a hurry makes it less good, don't you think?

  • Sanadhil checks his timepiece though :x
  • Sanadhil smiles

[Sanadhil] I was thinking that [Dozilva] I can be patient. [Sanadhil] how patient? [Dozilva] A little patient. [Dozilva] Don't make me wait another season ;) [Sanadhil] would you like to go to a party? [Dozilva] A party? [Sanadhil] As I said.... a friend of mine is getting married. She's marrying a prince, and his brother the emperor is getting married too, and their sister. Three Imperial weddings all in one day [Sanadhil] and then, a very big party. [Dozilva] Is it the kind of party with fucking? ^-^ [Sanadhil] its a wedding [Sanadhil] generally they go that way

  • Dozilva nods.
  • Sanadhil says with a smile
  • Dozilva takes a deep breath.

[Dozilva] All right, I will do this. [Dozilva] What do I wear? [Sanadhil] hmmm.... [Sanadhil] Something very fancy. [Dozilva] Do I need to change how I look? Will it be a problem?

  • Sanadhil considers, this is sort of an off the cuff plan :V

[Sanadhil] It might be. [Sanadhil] I could let you use this ring, though, most likely. [Dozilva] That would be good. [Dozilva] Then I can take it off when you want to see me as myself.

  • Sanadhil smiles

[Sanadhil] Yes, that too. [Dozilva] How will I know when?

  • Sanadhil frowns

[Sanadhil] it is soon, I could tell you the date, but I don't know if that means anything here [Dozilva] Not really. [Dozilva] How many sleeps? ^-^

  • Sanadhil tells her

[Dozilva] All right. I will come again to your house?

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] yes [Dozilva] I will make sure the others in the library know I will not come in, then. [Sanadhil] I'll arrange a carriage, even [Dozilva] Then I will see you then.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] I should be going back. [Dozilva] As should I... I have been away from the desk for longer than I should. [Sanadhil] I hope you won't get in any trouble. [Dozilva] Not too bad. [Dozilva] It will be worth it ;) [Sanadhil] good. [Sanadhil] I hope so :) [Dozilva] Not so bad as losing a book.

  • Dozilva teases.

[Sanadhil] Well, I'll try to stay away from the stacks on the way out, then. [Dozilva] But they are so alluring... ;) [Sanadhil] Its true! [Dozilva] Here, you can borrow this one.

  • Dozilva offers you a book from her shelves.

[Sanadhil] There is so much here that I'd like to learn about [Sanadhil] Thank you :o

  • Sanadhil looks at the title

[Dozilva] "The Arrow of Desire". Famous poetry here.

  • Sanadhil smiles

[Sanadhil] I see [Dozilva] Maybe it will give you some ideas. [Sanadhil] I'm sure it will.

  • Dozilva smiles.

[Dozilva] What is customary for saying goodbye in your world? [Sanadhil] for *saying* it? [Dozilva] A gesture. Hearty handshake? Rubbing tongues together? Something else? [Sanadhil] that depends on the people [Sanadhil] Often, it is enough just to say it [Sanadhil] But for you....

  • Sanadhil will lean forward to kiss her
  • Dozilva kisses back enthusiastically.

[Sanadhil] . o O ( ! ) [Dozilva] The tongues one, then.

  • Dozilva says once you've stopped.

[Sanadhil] Mmm.

  • Dozilva lets the ladder fall so you can climb down.

[Sanadhil] the tongues :) [Sanadhil] I'll see you soon.

  • Sanadhil will climb down

[Dozilva] Yes.

  • Dozilva follows you, since she has to go back to work.
  • Sanadhil panicks and reinstalls the illusion

[Sanadhil] ...distracted -_-

  • Dozilva smiles slightly.
  • Sanadhil looks around the alley, hoping no one was around to see

[Dozilva] (you think you're safe)

  • Sanadhil will offer her his arm
  • Dozilva accepts it after a moment's consideration.
  • Sanadhil will walk her back to work, then :x
  • Nycaise is waiting for you by the portal.

[Nycaise] Everything go well? [Sanadhil] Very. [Nycaise] Good, glad to hear it.

  • Sanadhil seems thoughful

[Sanadhil] and for you? [Nycaise] Uneventful - I did some reading.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Nycaise] Let's go.

  • Sanadhil nods again, and will step through the portal
  • Nycaise follows you.
  • Sanadhil is not hiding his book this time though :V

  • Dominik arrives several hours after the Society meeting. It is dark and cold.
  • Ysabeau has been sitting up working on something downstairs and answers the door quickly.
  • Ysabeau ushers you in with a kiss and a smile.
  • Dominik will duck inside quickly to avoid letting more heat out than is needed
  • Ysabeau speaks quietly so as not to wake Murienne.

[Ysabeau] Would you like something to drink? [Dominik] If you have something warm, otherwise no.

  • Ysabeau asks as she helps you with your cloak and hangs it near the fireplace to warm and dry any precipitation that may have fallen on it.

[Ysabeau] There's some leftover mulled cider. I'll reheat it.

  • Dominik takes off his gloves, heavy woolen cloak, and unstrap his sword belt.
  • Ysabeau helps you with the cloak and you probably know a good place to hang your sword, by now.

[Dominik] thanks [Ysabeau] You're welcome.

  • Ysabeau smiles, then goes to put the cider on again.
  • Dominik will find himself a seat and wait for Ysabeau to return

[Ysabeau] (Our house is looking less homey 'cause we've been packing up the few little trinkets and stuff we had in preparation for moving to our apartment... just the furniture and curtains left, really.)

  • Ysabeau returns before too long with a warm mug of spicy cider.

[Ysabeau] Here you go, Dom.

  • Dominik hasn't waited well. He looks very uncomfortable.

[Dominik] Thank you

  • Dominik takes a deep drink

[Ysabeau] You're welcome. [Dominik] I barely know where to start.

  • Ysabeau sits down on the couch next to you and pulls her feet up off the cold floor, rearranging her skirts so she can sit curled up in a warm ball, with one arm propped over the back of the couch so she can face you.
  • Dominik is still sitting facing straight forward off the couch, hands wrapped around the warm mug of cider

[Ysabeau] Wherever you'd like, Dom.

  • Ysabeau watches you with warm concern and a certain amount of expectation, I suppose.

[Dominik] You remember the dream I was with someone. Laurine.

  • Ysabeau nods.

[Dominik] She is someone I know. Her full name is Laurine Talavera. I used to train with her under Halden of Gouge. [Ysabeau] Oh. All right. [Ysabeau] Is she all right? [Dominik] sort of? [Dominik] I hadn't seen her in a while, until recently.

  • Ysabeau nods, listening, and perhaps a tiny bit guarded.

[Dominik] Before we were together, Laurine and I were... a little bit more than friends. [Ysabeau] Okay... [Ysabeau] She's pregnant, then?

  • Dominik nods

[Ysabeau] Oh. [Dominik] I just found out a week ago. She never told me. It's been months. [Dominik] I don't think I would have found out if I hadn't bumped into her brother at the training grounds. [Ysabeau] So... are you leaving me, then? [Dominik] That's not what I want... and its much more complicated. [Ysabeau] Okay... [Dominik] Laurine doesn't want me to marry her or be with her... she doesn't think of me that way. [Dominik] I have to accept what she wants.

  • Ysabeau swallows back her tears and nods, trying to understand where this is all going.
  • Dominik looks over at Ysabeau

[Ysabeau] That's good. [Ysabeau] That you'd do that for her... [Ysabeau] I'm sorry if it hurts you that she doesn't want to be with you, though... [Dominik] I care for you very much Ysabeau, but I would have left you to marry her... so my child wouldn't have to go through what I went through, if it was what she wanted... or if it was even possible.

  • Ysabeau nods.

[Ysabeau] I know. I know you're that kind of man. [Ysabeau] That's why I thought you might be trying to tell me that you were leaving me. [Dominik] I'm a horrible man. [Ysabeau] You're not a horrible man. [Ysabeau] You're an honorable man.

  • Dominik hands tighten around the mug, but he stops and sets it down before he breaks it.

[Ysabeau] So, what *have* you decided? [Ysabeau] And do I get any say in it? [Dominik] I don't know...

  • Dominik shakes his head
  • Dominik looks at Ysabeau

[Ysabeau] You'll have told her you want to be part of your child's life. [Dominik] Of course I did. What else could I do...

  • Ysabeau nods.

[Ysabeau] Nothing, really.

  • Ysabeau smiles through misty eyes.

[Dominik] I wish that were the worst of it. [Ysabeau] ... [Ysabeau] So... what else happened...? [Dominik] I found out who my father is. [Ysabeau] Oh, Dom.

  • Ysabeau slips her arm from the couch back to your back, stroking your shoulders gently.

[Dominik] I never would have done what I had done if I had known... how was I supposed to know? [Ysabeau] Who is he?

  • Dominik looks down at his hands.

[Dominik] Who could possibly be the worst person it could be? [Ysabeau] Oh...? Oh.

  • Dominik looks at Ysabeau

[Dominik] What does that make me? [Ysabeau] Dom, you can't beat yourself up about that. Like you said, how were you supposed to know? [Ysabeau] What does that make you? [Ysabeau] Not really any different from one of those nobs who marries his cousin, I suppose. [Ysabeau] You're half-siblings, right?

  • Dominik nods

[Ysabeau] So the blood the child has is half from one line, and a quarter each from two other lines. Just like if Theron or Zivia married a cousin and had kids with them. [Ysabeau] Does Laurine know? [Dominik] No she doesn't know and I'm not going to tell her either. [Dominik] I've caused her enough problems. [Dominik] Her father isn't telling her either.

  • Ysabeau nods.

[Dominik] I feel like I'm falling into a dark pit... [Ysabeau] You mustn't let yourself feel that way, Dom. [Ysabeau] This was beyond your knowledge or control. [Ysabeau] You've got a little son or daughter on its way who will want to know you the way you never got to know your own father. [Ysabeau] You need to be there for your baby, and he or she needs you to be there, too. [Ysabeau] So stay strong and just make the best you can out of the situation. [Dominik] was it that same way in the dream? was she my half-sister? [Ysabeau] It might be that you'll only be known as 'uncle Dom' but you can show your child all the love a father would. [Ysabeau] We can work this out. [Ysabeau] I mean, you and Laurine can.

  • Ysabeau looks a little embarrassed.

[Ysabeau] Or whatever.

  • Dominik looks at Ysabeau

[Ysabeau] I don't know about the dream. [Ysabeau] I suppose it may have been. [Dominik] I will not choose to leave my child out of my life.

  • Ysabeau nods.
  • Dominik sits back and turns to face Ysabeau

[Ysabeau] That's why you must stay strong, mustn't let yourself fall into that dark pit. [Ysabeau] So you can be there for your baby.

  • Ysabeau is looking downwards and tucks a lock of hair behind her ear rather self-consciously.

[Ysabeau] If Laurine wants, and you and I are still together, when the baby is old enough to be away from its mother, maybe we can take care of him sometimes... [Ysabeau] When she wants a break. [Dominik] Things are such a mess right now, who knows how it will turn out... and I feel there is little or nothing I can do about it.

  • Dominik is frustrated and trying to keep his voice down
  • Ysabeau nods.

[Dominik] what if Alestin buys her a husband and she accepts...

  • Dominik leaves the rest unsaid

[Ysabeau] Well, that's kind of what I was trying to get at with the whole 'Uncle Dom' thing. [Ysabeau] There are ways and ways to work things out, Dominik... [Dominik] I know... I know... [Ysabeau] You just have to talk with her and work out what would be the best way to handle it for the three of you, since being a family doesn't seem to be an option. [Ysabeau] I'm sorry that that can't be, Dom... but I won't lie. I'm also kind of glad because I don't want to lose you.

  • Dominik leans into Ysabeau
  • Ysabeau holds you close.

[Dominik] It's a void of a mess to drop on you [Ysabeau] It's not, really... I hope I can meet your baby sometime. [Dominik] I hope so too [Ysabeau] The truth is... I'm afraid that... what I did to my daughter... I didn't have the money for a healer so I did it myself. And in all that time since, I've never gotten pregnant again. I may not be able to have my own children. [Ysabeau] So I'm glad that you will have one. [Dominik] I'm such an oaf... all this must be awfull for you. [Ysabeau] It would only be awful if it does make you decide to leave me. [Dominik] right now this is the happiest place I know... where would I go. [Ysabeau] To the palace, I suppose, once Ilphere is married. [Dominik] the palace never smelled this good

  • Ysabeau smiles wryly and nuzzles her face into your chest.

[Ysabeau] You can't be serious.

  • Dominik smells your hair

[Ysabeau] We had fish for supper and it's still thick in the air. [Dominik] I just want to forget about all this mess, just for a few moments...

  • Ysabeau nods and kisses you.
  • Dominik kisses her back

[Ysabeau] Murienne is not likely to come down until morning...

  • Dominik nods understanding
  • Ysabeau kisses you again and goes to work on your breech-fastenings.
  • Seth arranges to meet with Ilphere at the palace at least a few days before the wedding.

[Seth] Ah, good morning, Ilphere. [Ilphere] Hello...! [Ilphere] How are you...? [Ilphere] I haven't seen you since the other day, with Rab, and I had something I wanted to tell you... [Ilphere] Unless I already did..? [Seth] No, I don't believe you did. [Ilphere] Ah, well! [Ilphere] It was about Schesutte...! [Seth] Oh!

  • Seth brightens considerably.

[Seth] What is it? [Ilphere] My cousin Theron had been keeping a journal of his dreams, or visions... [Ilphere] One of them may pertain to Schesutte... [Seth] Really? How so? [Ilphere] There were two giant arms, possibly stone...? Encircling a rat, crushing it. [Seth] Oh my! Wait, did you know about the Greysmoke Temple? [Ilphere] Yes, I recalled it from your presentation...! [Ilphere] Theron, of course, would not... [Seth] Hmm ... very curious ... [Ilphere] Indeed...! I thought you might find that of interest! [Seth] This Theron ... what sort of man is he? [Ilphere] Not a particularly nice one...? [Ilphere] How do you mean? [Seth] Trustworthy? [Ilphere] That, I could not say... [Ilphere] Although he is my cousin, we are not close... [Seth] But he is a Rademacher ... wheel-maker

  • Ilphere nods.

[Seth] The idea that the Rademachers, or a Rademacher patriarch or emperor, was responsible for producing the Wheel as we know it, regularizing it by eliminating the Rat ... and perhaps others ... has some appeal to me from a philosophical perspective. [Ilphere] It is very intriguing...! [Ilphere] Oh, Alma would have a conniption...!

  • Ilphere laughs musically.

[Seth] Yes, well we shall not be taking it up with her. [Ilphere] No indeed!

  • Ilphere agrees.

[Seth] Although this new scholar, Bessa du Champe, has latched on to Sister Alma quite closely, it seems. [Ilphere] She is welcome to her...! [Seth] She told her about the rat in the stone arms. I think she shall be making a trip to visit. [Ilphere] Ah well... [Ilphere] What did you wish to see me about, anyway...? [Seth] Well ... in part, about matters relating to all of this. [Ilphere] Oh...? [Seth] I wanted to ask your advice about my planned trip to the under-Arch chamber. [Ilphere] On what aspect...? [Seth] Well ... I do not know what to expect. Given that Vrag is ... not trapped in the Arch, yet apparently Vrag still has some connection to the Arch, as the Black Down cult centers around its veneration. [Seth] And I thought, given your expertise, you might have some thoughts. [Ilphere] You intend to merge with the lower Arch again, correct...? [Seth] I intend to merge with the lower Arch for the first time, but yes, in emulation of what the other Seth did. [Ilphere] Yes, yes... [Seth] Although to be honest, I am unable to know for certain whether there even is such a distinction any longer, or whether the two Arches are fully merged. [Ilphere] Well, your communication with the Matriarch would suggest that they are...

  • Seth nods.

[Ilphere] I would be most interested to hear whether you encounter her again, and if so if she recalls the other experience...! [Seth] Indeed, it is fully my intention to replicate the experience as closely as possible. [Seth] I'm afraid Sister Alma does not see my trip as well-founded. [Seth] And I'm not sure about M. Orecalo either. [Ilphere] Pff, Alma. [Ilphere] I would not worry about Sanadhil, though... [Seth] Well, yes. [Seth] I don't worry, so much as I do not understand him. [Ilphere] He is hardly one in a position to look down on risky scholarship, after all...! [Seth] Indeed - which was why I was surprised he seemed against me trying the under-Arch. [Ilphere] I am sure he will be just as eager as I to hear what you might learn...! [Ilphere] What makes you say that...? [Seth] He went to some pains to emphasize that I could get the same knowledge from using the Upper Arch. [Seth] But from my perspective, duplicating the prior experience is the only way to know for sure that it is the same thing. [Ilphere] Ah, I am sure he was merely trying to present you with all possible options to consider...! [Ilphere] But I do agree...! [Ilphere] One must be sure...!

  • Seth nods.

[Seth] Absolutely. [Seth] I intend to go shortly after the wedding, certainly before this proposed trip to Kholm.

  • Ilphere nods.

[Seth] I am still not sure if I will go to Kholm, even if I am able. [Ilphere] No...? [Seth] I want very much to know if there is another arch there, of course. [Ilphere] Oh of course... leaving the city...! [Seth] But this thing, this transformation, it has changed me deeply in ways I do not understand.

  • Ilphere nods...

[Seth] I ... did not ask for this. I do not know whether it is because of our trip to the Shadow Plane, or because of our trip into the dream-realm, or something unrelated. [Seth] But whatever it is, it is ... right. [Ilphere] I do understand... [Seth] It is the closest thing to a religious experience I have ever had. [Seth] And yet it is so clearly unrelated to the Seven Gods. [Ilphere] Well, unless we wish to discount all other cultures across the planes, the Seven are not the be-all and end-all of deities... [Seth] I agree, although we had best keep that opinion to ourselves. [Ilphere] Yes... that is evident... [Seth] Listen, Ilphere ... I do not know how things will go over the next weeks and months. We both shall have many changes in our lives. [Seth] I wish you to know that ... I wish you well, no matter what. [Ilphere] Well... thank you!

  • Ilphere smiles.

[Seth] ... [Seth] Has M. Orecalo spoken to you about Nash? [Ilphere] I don't think so...? [Seth] Hmm. Well, my conversation with her was very enlightening. [Seth] She is, of course, the girl who was the arch-guardian. And like Nash in the other world, she claims to serve the Center. Not Vrag, nor our gods, nor the Arch itself, but the Center. [Ilphere] Hmmm... but the Seventh do not know much if anything about her... [Ilphere] Does she know of their existence, I wonder...? [Seth] I suppose not, although I intend to press Rab Belden on the matter when I speak to him.

  • Ilphere nods...

[Seth] I do not know what Nash knows of them. [Seth] I do know her ultimate intention is definitively to recapture Vrag within the Arch. [Ilphere] Only Vrag...? [Seth] I do not know whether she intends to capture another entity to counterbalance it, or if so, which one. [Seth] I would think there would be at least an entire House, presumably many more, averse to re-capturing Rat. [Ilphere] Indeed...! [Ilphere] To what end does she intend to return the Serpent to its prison? [Ilphere] Does she plan to see the Arch's old function restored...? [Seth] Because she believes, firstly, that the City has not been whole since its release. [Seth] She took me to the Eternit Bell, which lies dormant, bereft of its once-mighty link to the emperors' lifeforce. [Seth] And she warned of the risk to the succession and the emperors if there is no test. [Seth] But more than that, I believe she fears the harm Vrag will cause if not captured. [Ilphere] Capturing Vrag is one thing... [Ilphere] Letting it choose our ruler... I am not sure... [Ilphere] :/ [Seth] Nor am I. [Seth] Do you think it was Vrag granting me the vision I had at the Arch, I mean that the other Seth had? [Seth] Of Laeken, and of the queen? [Ilphere] It is possible that it is something about the Arch itself that provides these visions... [Seth] Nash hinted to me that the souls of dead Emperors remain in the Arch, or in the city. [Seth] That that might have something to do with my newfound powers. Although whether those relate to my visions, I don't know. [Seth] Perhaps I should find a way to take someone with me to the under-Arch area. [Ilphere] Or it could be some residual energy after having been inhavited by the rat and the serpent for so long... [Seth] Perhaps, yes. [Ilphere] It is also possible that the restored arch could be... temporarily occupied by powerful entities inclined to grant such visions, and then depart, but... [Seth] A hostel for deities? Hmm, interesting hypothesis. [Ilphere] I do not know if I believe that... Given that more than one person has had a similar experience - the arch showing visions of the past... Transitory beings from beyond seem less likely... [Ilphere] But not impossible of course... [Seth] When I speak to Rab, I will ask him about that as well, given his special knowledge of those who had such visions previously.

  • Ilphere nods...

[Ilphere] He may well be able to provide additional data...! [Seth] Well I will certainly speak to him before journeying into the under-Arch. [Seth] But probably not, at this rate, before your wedding! [Ilphere] Who would you consider taking with you...? [Seth] If we could find a way ... well, you would be the logical choice, given your Rademacher connections and your knowledge of such matters. [Seth] But perhaps I would go alone first, to ensure its safety. [Ilphere] I would relish the opportunity...! [Seth] And I would not deny it to you, if it proves feasible. First I must find a way to get there, which is no simple matter.

  • Ilphere nods again.

[Ilphere] I don't suppose the Society has any items of greater teleportation...! [Seth] I don't know - they might though! [Seth] Ahh ... if I am speaking to Menard about my planned trip ... should I or should I not mention you? [Ilphere] Well, he will undoubtedly notice my absence if we are married....! [Seth] Yes, of course. [Seth] Well, I would very much like to find a way to bring you along, if it is possible. [Ilphere] Well, we can always ask Mme. Belden, on the off chance there is such an item... otherwise, well, keep me informed...! [Seth] I shall do so! [Seth] Well, I should take my leave; I have used up quite enough of your time at a time when you have little. [Ilphere] It was not a problem... :) [Seth] It is, as always, a great pleasure, Ilphere. [Ilphere] Have a pleasant afternoon..! [Ilphere] :)

  • Seth departs.

  • Sanadhil waits for Guillame and waves him over

[Sanadhil] May I have a word, M. Rionet? [Guillame] Of course! [Sanadhil] its about the ring...

  • Guillame nods

[Sanadhil] while I am happy to let you keep it, I actually have it signed out from the society currently, and am just completing some personal research. [Guillame] Oh, it's not urgent

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] I just wanted to confer

  • Sanadhil smiles

[Guillame] Hopefully before our next excursion, whenever that may be. [Sanadhil] definitely well before then. [Guillame] Otherwise, I'll let you know if I find a use for it sooner.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Guillame] May I ask what you're researching about it? Or... with it? [Sanadhil] I've been furthering my investigations into the modern Shadar Kai, with the help of Mlle L'Averti.

  • Guillame listens

[Sanadhil] Clearly, it is quite helpful for blending in. [Guillame] Ah, of course. [Sanadhil] I am hoping that it won't be necessary in the long term, however - she is arranging a meeting with one of her local contacts. [Guillame] Well, let me know how it goes, and try not to get it confiscated! [Sanadhil] I will, and that shoudl not be an issue. [Sanadhil] Depending on how things proceed, however, I may ask to borow it again, if that would be alright [Sanadhil] as long as you aren't in need of it yourself, in any case. [Guillame] You are always welcome to ask, and if it's convenient, I'm liable to agree, M. Orecalo. [Sanadhil] Thank you, then, I appreciate it very much. [Sanadhil] oh, there is another matter I have been meaning to speak to you about.

  • Sanadhil says, suddenly remembering

[Guillame] Oh? [Sanadhil] Yes. I am quite interested in learning the Rat language. I am typically quite adept at the things, but I haven't found any good primers or dictionaries. [Sanadhil] or literature, for that matter - I find it makes the learning go quicker if I have something interesting to focus on. [Sanadhil] I was wondering if you might have any recommendations? [Guillame] (k: history?) [Sanadhil] or, for that matter, if you might be willing to suffer through some practice conversation at some point? [Curtana_] (there are certainly books that have been written since the exodus from the sewers... as for before that, not much) [Guillame] Well, there are definitely books written in the rat language, but I suspect that there isn't a lot of literature publicly available, and I don't know of any dictionaries. [Curtana_] (a few religious things etc.) [Guillame] I suppose I could endeavour to teach you, if I could find the time...? [Sanadhil] Oh?

  • Sanadhil thinks

[Sanadhil] I think I could make time, definitely. [Guillame] I'm not sure that I can, but I'll see what I can do, and whether we have any texts at home that we, or you, could use.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] That would be finem, thank you again. If there is anything you would like in exchange, also, I will do what i can. [Guillame] Well, if I think of anything, I'll let you know. [Sanadhil] Very well then. [Sanadhil] I'll let you know as soon as I am through with the ring. [Guillame] Thank you. [Sanadhil] Most welcome - good day, M. Rionet.

  • Sanadhil is at home the day of the wedding, getting things ready and wondering when/if Dozilva will arrive :o

[Sanadhil] . o O ( who knows if their sleeping patterns corespond at all to our days.... )

  • Dozilva spontaneously appears in your room quite early in the morning.

[Dozilva] Greetings.

  • Sanadhil is sitting at the table, about to take a sip of tea
  • Dozilva says in Aveyronnais.
  • Sanadhil smiles and sets down the cup

[Sanadhil] Good morning.

  • Dozilva blinks a bit in the sunlight, but doesn't seem totally blinded or anything.

[Dozilva] It is morning? [Sanadhil] (What is she wearing, and does she have anything with her?) [Sanadhil] it is, yes - fairly early, though you missed the sunrise

  • Dozilva is wearing a *very* close-fitting silver gown with some pearly-white embroidery that mirrors the patterns on her skin.

[Sanadhil] ...

  • Dozilva is wearing some jewelry, but doesn't have anything in her hands.

[Dozilva] This is 'fancy', yes? [Sanadhil] you look very lovely [Sanadhil] yes. [Dozilva] Thank you.

  • Dozilva 's white hair is caught up in a net decorated with little pearls.
  • Sanadhil imagines he will be peeling boys away from her and ignoring scandalized whispers for months :V

[Dozilva] What are you wearing? Men clothes are so boring here. [Sanadhil] My clothes are more interesting. [Sanadhil] I can show you...

  • Sanadhil looks at her again
  • Dozilva looks intrigued.

[Sanadhil] It is quite early, for that matter..... the wedding isnt for hours, still, and the party is after that. [Dozilva] Oh. I was not certain, so I thought I should leave some time.

  • Sanadhil smiles

[Sanadhil] I am not going to complain about seeing you longer, I'm just worried about your dress. [Dozilva] Why? [Sanadhil] I wasnt sure it was intended to be worn all day.... and its white. [Dozilva] Is it not good?

  • Dozilva smooths it down her thighs in a rather distracting way.

[Sanadhil] It's very good. [Sanadhil] But I you'll have to be careful not to get it dirty [Dozilva] Oh, well. [Dozilva] A little spell can fix it.

  • Sanadhil smiles

[Sanadhil] true enough. [Sanadhil] I picked up a little something for you... [Dozilva] What is it?

  • Sanadhil stands

[Sanadhil] A book. [Dozilva] oh :) [Sanadhil] Not as exciting as the one you lent me I'm afraid, though I do have some other volumes... [Dozilva] You liked it? [Sanadhil] I did. [Sanadhil] It is very....imaginative.

  • Dozilva smiles at that.
  • Sanadhil pulls a small wrapped package off of one of his bookshelves and pases it to her

[Dozilva] It is very traditional. Old.

  • Dozilva takes it eagerly.

[Sanadhil] There's a book like that in Cozovodë

  • Dozilva opens it to see what's inside.

[Dozilva] So beautiful... [Dozilva] Thank you.

  • Sanadhil smiles

[Sanadhil] I'm glad you like it. [Dozilva] All these names...

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] its an art book, so it is a little more detailed than most people use. [Dozilva] Crimson, scarlet, carmine, vermillion. [Sanadhil] but it talks about how the colours work together, and such...

  • Dozilva tries out the words.

[Sanadhil] . o O ( she would go for the reds.... ) [Sanadhil] do you want to go outside? [Sanadhil] or... have some tea? [Dozilva] ... someone could see me... [Sanadhil] we could go on the roof [Sanadhil] I have the ring for you, too. [Dozilva] Oh, yes, the ring. Can I try it? [Sanadhil] Its upstairs

  • Dozilva nods.
  • Sanadhil will head up to get it, then.
  • Dozilva follows.
  • Sanadhil smiles, though she can't see it
  • Sanadhil 's bedroom is upstairs, of course.

[Dozilva] (well, she's been there before ;) [Sanadhil] (indeed ^-^)

  • Sanadhil 's wedding clothes are laid out there -a dark blue knee-lenght robe type thing witha phoenix design

[Dozilva] That is nice. [Sanadhil] (and loose black trousers) [Sanadhil] thank you.... [Sanadhil] Much more comfortable than Aveyrone menswear, also.... [Dozilva] It looks it.

  • Sanadhil fetches the ring from a little chest of jewellery

[Sanadhil] it's silk, too... very soft.

  • Dozilva nods.
  • Sanadhil will give her the ring

[Dozilva] What should I look like, when I try the ring?

  • Dozilva takes it and puts it on.

[Sanadhil] I think you should look like yourself, as much as possible... [Sanadhil] I may be biased

  • Sanadhil smiles
  • Dozilva smiles too.

[Dozilva] A human? [Sanadhil] probably easiest.

  • Dozilva closes her eyes to concentrate.

[Sanadhil] There will be other Cozovodë there - it would be harder to pass inspection. Humans are much more variable...

  • Sanadhil watches
  • Dozilva 's skin becomes a very pale cream (no scars), her hair a ridiculously red red.
  • Dozilva 's eyes, when she opens them again, are the same colour as yours.

[Sanadhil] how flattering.

  • Dozilva looks around for a mirror, if there is one.
  • Sanadhil smiles, bemused.

[Sanadhil] . o O ( mmmm red-heads @_@ ) [Sanadhil] (there is definitely a mirror)

  • Dozilva 's hair is basically crimson, it doesn't look like it could have grown on a human head ;)
  • Dozilva admires herself.

[Sanadhil] I like your hair - but no one will believe it is natural. [Dozilva] Oh. Do humans here not change how they look? [Sanadhil] typically not so drastically

  • Dozilva nods.
  • Dozilva tones down the red a bit, until it's closer to auburn.

[Dozilva] More good? [Sanadhil] better, yes. [Sanadhil] I feel utterly outclassed. [Dozilva] What is 'outclassed'?

  • Sanadhil considers how to explain

[Sanadhil] Socially inferior? [Dozilva] You will feel better in your fancy clothing :) [Sanadhil] true :) [Dozilva] What will happen at this 'wedding'? [Sanadhil] Honestly, I only have a vague notion [Sanadhil] I've never been to one either. [Dozilva] Very well. [Sanadhil] music, a procession, vows in fromnt of a priest....

  • Dozilva nods.

[Sanadhil] this is a big event, though - three couples, and I have no idea how they are arranging it [Dozilva] They can all be married together? [Sanadhil] not to each other, just at the same time [Dozilva] Ah. [Dozilva] We do not have such things. [Sanadhil] no? [Dozilva] Not so public. [Sanadhil] I don't think they all are [Dozilva] Pepople may decide they wish to stay together, and so they do. They say words to each other only.

  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] I like that - its simple. [Sanadhil] what happens if they change their minds? [Dozilva] Simple beginning, simple ending.

  • Dozilva says with a shrug.
  • Sanadhil nods

[Sanadhil] ... [Sanadhil] so... [Dozilva] Yes? [Sanadhil] I was just thinking, about, what to do, between now and the wedding... [Dozilva] Ah. And what is your thinking? [Sanadhil] Honestly... I'm sure I had a list of things i wanted to show you, but I keep looking at you in that outfit and finding I've completely forgotten.

  • Dozilva laughs quietly.

[Dozilva] We should make up a story.

  • Sanadhil nods more seriously.

[Sanadhil] yes, I have been considering *that*.

  • Sanadhil moves his robs aside, and sits down on the bed, making sure there is enough room if she wanted to sit also.

[Sanadhil] Your name is blatantly Shadar Kai - there are people there who will know it

  • Dozilva nods.

[Sanadhil] But something similar.... [Sanadhil] Zilva, or Zilvia. baru on its own is probably fine, too. [Sanadhil] There are other family names that have a touch of Shadar kai to them, even among the nobility. [Dozilva] Zilvia Baru. That is good-sounding. [Sanadhil] it sounds good.

  • Sanadhil smiles

[Dozilva] Sounds good.

  • Dozilva lets you correct her ;)

[Sanadhil] As for your story.... [Sanadhil] I took a trip to the south a few months ago, after I was ill....

  • Sanadhil frowns slightly

[Sanadhil] But I could have met you then.

  • Dozilva nods.

[Dozilva] Where do I say I come from? [Dozilva] If someone should ask.

  • Sanadhil was trying to tihk of some of the more out of the way southern counties/baronies/ducdoms/whatever
  • Dozilva checks map :)

[Dozilva] (well, I do) [Dozilva] (see on the map there's a little island off the south coast near Colwyn Bay?) [Sanadhil] (In CB or between it and Sarande?) [Dozilva] (in CB) [Sanadhil] (well, I see three, then - the nost northern one?) [Sanadhil] (or the tiny tiny one at the south?) [Dozilva] (yeah, that was the one I was thinking of - nearest to the city you were in, so most likely to have been met :) [Sanadhil] (right :) [Dozilva] (it can be called.. Mirithene, sure.) [Sanadhil] Mirithene? [Sanadhil] It's an island in Colwyn Bay [Dozilva] All right. [Dozilva] I will hope no one will ask me about home. [Sanadhil] just tell hem you came to the city to get *away* for a bit. [Sanadhil] it is too dull to worry about

  • Dozilva smiles at that.

[Dozilva] So. Am I a nobleman's daughter? A rich merchant? A lady of ill-repute? [Sanadhil] I don't think I would dare take an admitted lady of illrepute to the imperial weddings! [Dozilva] Heh. [Sanadhil] and there are too many nobles around [Sanadhil] and they're all related.

  • Dozilva nods.

[Sanadhil] A merchant's daughter is probably best [Sanadhil] YOu can tell people that your father traded your dress from a merchant.... far to the south [Dozilva] Very well.

  • Sanadhil waves his hand dismissively

[Sanadhil] It is quite different from the fshions here, but much nicer, i think.

  • Dozilva smiles at that.

[Sanadhil] I swear, fasion here is run by a covert circle of masochists. [Dozilva] What is 'masochists'? [Sanadhil] hrm, sadists, I think I meant... [Sanadhil] Masochists are people who enjoy pain. [Sanadhil] A sadist is someone who enjoys inflicting it on others.

  • Dozilva laughs slightly at that.

[Sanadhil] ....Like p. 97. [Dozilva] Oh yes, I know of these things. You only have one word for each of these? [Sanadhil] ...yes?

  • Sanadhil mentally consults the Sendhel dictionary of kink, and 'hmms'

[Dozilva] How do you distinguish between one who enjoys physical pain from heat, from needles, from whips? ;) [Sanadhil] practice?

  • Dozilva laughs at that.

[Sanadhil] There may be more specialized words, I'm just not, ah, overly familiar....

  • Dozilva nods.

[Sanadhil] . o O ( is it warm in here? :x )

  • Dozilva idly strokes the silk of your wedding outfit, admiring it.

[Sanadhil] did you want me to put it on?

  • Sanadhil smirks

[Sanadhil] did *you* want to put it on? [Dozilva] Hmm. [Dozilva] Does it match with my new hair? ^-^ [Sanadhil] well enough, I think! [Sanadhil] The embroisery would go well [Sanadhil] And of course the blue goes lovely with you eyes.

  • Dozilva stands and starts unbuttoning the many tiny pearl buttons down the front of her gown.

[Dozilva] (this is a slow process ;) [Sanadhil] ... [Sanadhil] would you like any help with that? [Dozilva] All right. You start at the bottom.

  • Sanadhil raises his eyebrows

[Sanadhil] As you wish.

  • Sanadhil will kneel in front of her, and look up
  • Dozilva is occupied with her buttons, but takes a moment to glance at you.
  • Sanadhil lifts the hem of her skirt so that he can start on the tiny little buttons

[Sanadhil] how long did it take for you to get in to this? [Dozilva] Oh, some time? [Dozilva] Will there be time for me to get back into it? [Sanadhil] yes. [Dozilva] Good.

  • Dozilva is wearing very little underneath - presumably for the nice clean lines under such a tight gown ;)
  • Sanadhil wonders if she could prestidigitate into it :o

[Sanadhil] ... [Dozilva] Are you going to dress me again? [Sanadhil] I could... [Sanadhil] I was just wondering how you would look without the ring.

  • Sanadhil picks up the robe, though, and unfolds it.
  • Dozilva takes it off. Her hair becomes white once more, her skin darkens to grey, and you can see a fine network of scars in intricate swirls and patterns over her whole body.

[Sanadhil] Beautiful.

  • Dozilva smiles.

[Sanadhil] ...here.

  • Sanadhil holdes it open for her, so that she can slip her arms in to it
  • Dozilva will slip into it.
  • Sanadhil stays behind her for a moments, and will fold the front parts around her in the right way
  • Dozilva is not quite as skinny as you ;)

[Sanadhil] (hee, no, but it is meant o be quite loose. but she probably fils it out better ;) [Dozilva] (indeed) [Sanadhil] hold that.

  • Dozilva does as she's told.
  • Sanadhil steps around her

[Sanadhil] I think it looks better on you. [Dozilva] Oh, but we haven't seen it on you yet. [Sanadhil] *I* have :) [Dozilva] Heh.

  • Sanadhil steps close to fix the collar and mes with the belt
  • Dozilva kisses you.
  • Sanadhil kisses back!

[Dozilva] You dress me only so you can undress me again, I think. [Sanadhil] undress you, dress you, undress you again.... [Dozilva] Very busy. [Dozilva] I should do some of the work too... [Sanadhil] Well, you can't wear it all day, anyway - I don't have the figure for your dress

  • Dozilva will help undress you.
  • Sanadhil 's clothes are much less complicated than hers :V

[Dozilva] (heh)

  • Dozilva 's current clothes are just yours anyway ;)

[Sanadhil] (well her current ones, yes, but those are my fancy clothes ;) [Dozilva] (true ;) [Dozilva] (we will presume you can occupy yourselves until it's time to get dressed again for the wedding, then!) [Sanadhil] (indeed!) [Dozilva] (you have probably a good 4-5 hours at least ;) [Sanadhil] (Hopefully she won't think I'm boring ;p) [Dozilva] (hee)

  • Dozilva does not seem bored.

[Sanadhil] (good!)
