The Change

The Change is the phenomenon which makes most of the landscapes of Arth, following the desperate bid if the last followers of magic during the world's ancient and forgotten conflict. Because of this conflict, Arth exists in constant state of flux between planes, times, and timelines, and as a result the environment can change in a moment's notice - usually, it's subtle a gradual, but it can be sudden and catastrophic. This phenomenon affects most of the world, with stable areas tending to be places where settlements are located.

The inhabitants of the world don't really know the full details - most modern scholars believe it has to do with how the gods won the Dawn War and locked away the Primordials, and are not aware of the full range of dimensions involved in the change.
