Summary

Session date: 2025-08-27

Dinner party at Fritz's house! Firrin picks up Paiza, and Siya comes with Mitula and Mhireen, picking up Trev and Euphrastus along the way. Once almost everyone arrives, they are met by Fritz and Galatea who welcome them inside for refreshments. Everyone admires the wedding portrait of Nik and Lamont, and Raveni gives Mol a moth they carved and painted.

Fritz and Galatea give a tour, before dinner, and a few people break away into smaller conversations:

  • Fritz and Saiya chat a little together and with Euphrastus
  • Euphrastus and Firrin chat about fashion
  • Trev waylays Firrin about his new circumstances, which Mol interrupts
  • Paiza and Firrin have a moment on a balcony
  • Mol tells Paiza about his and Firrin's falling out, and Paiza questions Firrin about it

Session

Session Close: Wed Aug 27 19:37:30 2025

Firrin picks up paiza and they travel to the dinner together

* Paiza will have obsessed a little over the casual to showy spectrum for this event, wanting to make a good impression but also not seem like she's trying too hard.
* Firrin always obsesses over clothes but his father is convinced that House Nykona wants to see someone eho iwn't too flashy, actually, so he will wind up lookign fairly somber and conservative in dove gray and deep purple
* Paiza will be waiting to greet him when he arrives, though she'll let the servants answer the door as is proper, letting Firrin be shown in.
* Firrin bows, apprehensive for all kinds of reasons, but will do his best to be polite
<Firrin> Good evening, my lady
* Paiza smiles politely.
<Paiza> Good evening, Mr. Malassar. I hope the trip up the mountain didn't prove too arduous.
<Firrin> Not at all. I, ah, have been looking forward to the evening.
<Firrin> I hope it will be a good opportunity.
<Paiza> I should hope so; it will be nice to socialize in a less, hmm, ostentatious environment. I'm glad to hear you've been looking forward to it.
<Paiza> Shall we get underway? I wouldn't want to be late.
<Firrin> Yes, of course.
* Firrin will offer his arm for an escort out to the carriage, and help her in
* Paiza will take his arm happily.
<Firrin> have you, ah, how have you been finding the season so far?
<Paiza> It's certainly a livelier time than back home, if you'll pardon the pun.
<Paiza> There's certainly opportunity for diversion in Thantopolis, but I am often busy with familial obligations.
* Firrin nods
<Firrin> I, well, I know very little about Thantopolis, really
<Paiza> Oh, it's lovely. More stone buildings, statuary...certainly flatter than Highmark. The views here are beautiful, but, hmm, precipitous. :)
<Firrin> Oh, I hadn't considered that.. do the heights bother you?
<Paiza> Only in the instantiation. So long as I avoid looking directly over the edge, I can appreciate the vistas.
* Firrin nods
<Paiza> The sea is very pretty; Thantopolis is inland, along the Cocytus.
<Firrin> right, yes. I look forward to seeing it, in time :)
<Paiza> I hope it won't be too much of a disappointment after the hustle and bustle of Highmark.
<Firrin> Oh, well, I did live for a few years in Shom where things are really very different from here.
<Firrin> so, I'm sure I can adjust.
<Paiza> Did you enjoy Shom?
<Firrin> It was a very interesting place, certainly... lots of room for explorers and scholars and such, but I found it could be very mercernary because of it.
<Paiza> It holds so much ancient knowledge. To think it would be sold to the highest bidder... :(
<Firrin> I think it was more... whoever could finance the biggest expeditions, and so on
<Firrin> make first claims, that sort of thing
* Paiza nods.
<Paiza> I suppose Highmark is not much different, with the guilds.
* Firrin nods
<Firrin> Yes, perhaps just a matter of perspective. There certainly were many opportunities to be had for the enterprising
<Paiza> What enterprise brought you to Shom?
<Firrin> ahh, well.
<Firrin> I'm not sure how much you know, from anyone, about my background...
* Firrin says with obvious nerves
<Paiza> They've been strangely reticent to share, but I also don't want to overstep. It is somewhat frustrating, however, as I would think my grandparents had learned we-I-should endeavor to know as much about my intended as possible.
<Paiza> I've had...poor experiences, prior.
<Firrin> oh no, have you?
<Firrin> I'm sorry to hear it.
<Paiza> I suppose they haven't told you much of my background then, either?
<Paiza> A clean slate for the both of us, then.
<Firrin> I suppose that's one way to approach it
<Firrin> Still. I would feel disengenuois to say nothing as.. well
<Paiza> I'm entirely willing to share if you prefer.
<Firrin> I would prefer what makes you comfortable.
<Firrin> For myself... Surely you must know, at least, that... My father has a wife that is not my mother, shall we say
<Paiza> Well, hmm. I don't want to put a damper on the evening. Perhaps we can discuss it on the way home?
<Paiza> Oh, yes, I was aware.
* Firrin nods
<Paiza> That is...less of a concern in Thantopolis, though not *not
* one.
<Firrin> Right, that's good to know, thank you.
<Firrin> My father only...recognized me after my mark expresssed itself, so I wasn't raised in society, is what I'd wanted to say.
<Firrin> (Society with a Capital S tho)
<Firrin> Which is all, ah, to answer your question, and say - I went to Shom because there were good opportunities in Service, with the new houses and all.
* Paiza nods.
<Paiza> I would imagine there would be a multitude of opportunities for such.
* Firrin seems a little relieved that at least you are being polite about it
* Firrin nods
<Firrin> Yes, though I was still pretty young, so it was by my mother's direction
<Paiza> Did you enjoy the work?
<Firrin> ahh.
<Firrin> Parts of it, yes, though I was still fairly junior in my position when I left.
* Firrin smiles awkwardly
<Firrin> I'm not sure that's an admission to be much proud of, but it is the truth.
* Paiza smiles.
<Paiza> You grew up here in Highmark, though, no?
<Firrin> Yes, until I was...eleven, I think?
* Paiza nods.
<Paiza> I imagine, then, growing up here, you assumed I would think less of you for having been in service?
<Firrin> Ah....
<Firrin> It, ah, did concern me...
<Firrin> It...it certainly concerns my father.
<Paiza> Thantopolis has a somewhat different view of such things. In the Eternal City, *everyone
* serves. Even those of us born to the Houses, with dragonmarks, serve the senate and people of Thantopolis.
<Paiza> Not that there aren't nobles and patricians and plebes, but it is less...stigmatized, as such.
<Paiza> The Houses came with the empires, but we have...older traditions.
<Paiza> So I, for one, am glad to hear you're no stranger to genuine labor and effort.
<Firrin> Then, I'm relieved. Thank you for that.
<Paiza> I am...happy to be of service. ;)
* Firrin smiles
<Paiza> Truly, such a background is more detriment in dealing with Highmarkers than my own people.
<Paiza> And, unfortunately, there will be at least some of that. My stirps has been focused upon our own matters for so long, we've neglected broader connections, and you and I will have to take some of that responsibility.
* Firrin frowns slightly btu turns it quickly to a :)
<Firrin> I will do my best.
<Paiza> I couldn't ask for any more.
<Paiza> And I'll try to keep it as painless as possible. It's still a bit of a learning experience for me as well.
<Paiza> :)

Saiya picks up some friends on the way to Fritz's place for Dinner

* Saiya will have arranged a carriage (read: borrowed one from her family) for her squad ;)
<Mhireen> (Rocking the Regency equivalent of a minivan for everyone :P )
* Trev clambers in when it arrives, wearing nice boots with a very unsubtle heel
<Saiya> Good evening! You're looking very well tonight :D
* Saiya is wearing a violet gown that leaves her shoulders bare, with a floofy skirt.
<Trev> Thank you! I *love
* your dress, by the way
<Saiya> Oh, thank you! It's a new style I'm trying :D
<Mhireen> You're being kind, but she doesn't need the encouragement. :)
<Saiya> Hmph.
<Saiya> I hope it will be a DELIGHTFUL evening and everyone gets along well!
* Mhireen smirks.
<Trev> Well, with such wonderful ladies as you present, I'm sure the night will be one to remember!
* Saiya preens at that
<Saiya> I think Lord Frederick was concerned there would not be enough ladies, but I think it shall be fine?
<Trev> Well, you can never have too many, in my opinion
<Trev> Whereas too many lads and you end up with a boarding school
* Trev makes a face
<Saiya> Oh, I'm sure THAT is not the atmosphere one wishes to cultivate
<Mhireen> Hopefully no one's getting rapped on the knuckles with a ruler tonight.
* Euphrastus is wearing an elaborate suit, of a sort not seen in the last two decades, but clearly made newly for someone of his size, a blue jacket with silver stripes that match the silver-tipped ebony walking stick he carries, and a chequered grey vest. His monocle sits on a chain around his neck.
<Saiya> Oh, how very dashing!
* Euphrastus smiles warmly.
<Mhireen> Hmm. Maybe I should consider a monacle...
<Euphrastus> Good evening to you all.
<Trev> Would two monocles be bionicles?
* Euphrastus laughs ,booming.
* Mhireen chuckles at that.
<Euphrastus> I have often been told I like to make a spectacle, which is, of course, the singular form of 'spectacles'.
* Saiya giggles
* Euphrastus mounts his spectacle on his eye.
<Saiya> Now everyone MUST be on good behaviour tonight!
* Saiya says sternly (ish)
<Euphrastus> I hope we shall not make too much of one this evening, or if we do, hopefully in the way that leads to marvellous stories, Lady Saiya.
<Mhireen> What makes you think we wouldn't be?
<Saiya> Oh, I don't know.... I only don't want Lord Frederick to think us a load of scoundrels!
<Trev> No, no, surely not. I believe scoundrels come in flocks, don't they?
<Saiya> oh, I should think they come anywhere they like!
<Trev> Well, anywhere they're invited, I would presume
* Trev winks
* Saiya giggles
* Vess (vess@pool-174-113-181-62.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com) has joined #awrr
* Vess is now known as Mitula
<Trev> Who else have we to pick up?
<Saiya> I believe this is all of us!
<Trev> Oh, fantastic, nobody I need to worry about impressing then
* Trev winks

Everyone arrives at Griffin's Crest and is welcomed in

<Mitula> How do these events usually play out? I've had diner before, but never as a party.
* Mitula asks innocently
<Saiya> Oh, well, I imagine we shall have food and drinks, and play cards or parlour games and have conversation!
<Saiya> And we shall get to see the house, which I believe is quite lovely - see, there it is, we're nearly there :D
* Saiya gestures out the window
<Trev> Ooh, I shall have to ask who did their windows
<Saiya> (do you want to describe the house, Heather?)
<Saiya> (like what we'd see from the outside)
* Mitula is wearing a blue raw silk scarf around her head, cinched with a silver cord with a small amethyst stone jewel. Her loose fitting robes are a similar colour with the occaisonal embroidery white starburst in a seemingly random pattern.
<Fritz> (Griffin's Crest is an old, clearly very old, and stately stone manor that is practically perched right on the edge of the overhang. there are are some gardens out front, though not extensive ones)
<Fritz> (Like this kind of think but imagien those bits on the left are literally hanging over the side of a cliff face: https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo/14th-century-norman-manor-house.html)
<Paiza> (Swanky!)
<Mitula> Quite the perch. The name feels appropriate.
* Trev nods
<Mhireen> Nice commanding view, I expect.
<Saiya> I hear that our host is VERY fond of architecture - I imagine this place suits him :D
<Trev> Oh, I should either make sure my father visits here, or that he *never* does - they'd end up talking architecture until everyone else's ears fell off
<Mitula> so I guess your mood after the party will make that decision?
* Mhireen will head up to the door.
* Raveni arrives riding a tall grey horse, accompanied by their chaperone, just as the group ahead are exiting their carriage. They are wearing a long shirt akin to a short dress with charcoal-grey breeches and waistcoat. Tall black riding boots complete the ensemble.
<Saiya> oh, good evening!
* Mhireen waves to the newcomers, and will knock.
<Raveni> Good evening, Saiya. It is good to see you again.
<Trev> Ravishing as usual!
* Raveni dismounts from their horse and passes it off to a servant with an affectionate pat to the animal’s neck
* Mitula nods a respectable greating to the new arrival
<Raveni> (Was that directed at Raveni, Trev?)
* Molgrin also arrives with Nezva, in a carriage (borrowed from Brenn). He wears a dark blue watered silk jacket, a neatly tied cravat, and a pair of very well-fitted trousers.
<Fritz> (servants take care of all ther horses and so on, and will see everyone inside to a parlour for the moment, but you do all get to walk past the portrait of two men, one a human with darker golden blonde curly hair than Fritz, and a very pale white haired elven man. It's a formal pose but they are holding hands and looking Softly at each other)
<Trev> (yep)
* Firrin and Paiza can pull up as well, as everyone is arriving and being seen inside
* Raveni blushes intensely at the compliment
<Fritz> (LMK when peopel make it to the parlour :D)
* Molgrin takes a moment to admire the painting
* Mhireen will follow the servants to the parlor.
* Molgrin won't linger tooo long though, but will follow the rest of the group
* Trev will offer his arm to any of the ladies who may want it
<Fritz> (I think the human is wearing standar Highmarkian dress, and the elf is wearing more classic thantopolitian elven style)
<Fritz> Hello, and welcome!
* Mitula will take any arm offered
<Fritz> I'm so glad that everyoe could make it :)
<Trev> Liralu you old scamp!
* Firrin freeezes as he walks in to *that
* address
<Firrin> Ahh.
<Firrin> Good evening... Mr. Maceador...
* Paiza is now known as Galatea
<Saiya> Good evening! Your house is so GORGEOUS!
<Fritz> Oh do you knw each other? How wonderful ^-^
* Saiya says excitedly to Fritz
* Galatea smiles at that.
<Mitula> Thank you very much for the invite. I look forward to the evening.
<Fritz> oh thank you! Of course it is really my brother's house but I will pass that along! It's been in the Allard family for a long time of course
<Saiya> It's simply MARVELLOUS
* Trev gestures at the painting
<Galatea> Perhaps you could share some of its history with our guests, once everyone is settled in.
<Saiya> All the ...wood and the stone and so on....
<Trev> Which one is the brother?
<Fritz> ha ha, Don't get me started I don't want to be a bore :V
<Galatea> (to Trev) The pretty one married in. ;)
<Fritz> But this is my brother here, maequess of Stillmarch, and his husband, Lord Evernor
* Firrin is very :) :) :) but Paiza can probably feel how tense he is, if they are still arm i arm
<Molgrin> It's a very handsome portrait
<Fritz> isn't it? I don't think I had ever seen my brother so happy as on his wedding day, truly the artist did a wonderful job to capture it
<Trev> May we all have as much joy on our own
* Mhireen is now known as Paiza
<Raveni> It’s a beautiful portrait
<Fritz> it's by (name of some person), a friend of our mother's, so possibly there was some pressure to get it right!
* Paiza gives Firrin's arm a squeeze and gives him an interrogative look.
* Firrin swallows
<Galatea> There's a fair amount of Fritz's mothers' work around here as well, here and there.
<Mitula> They look blessed with affection for eachother. It really is quite a good image.
* Trev wanders in deeper, looking at the art*
<Firrin> Thank you for your invitation, Lord Frederick, as I don't think we have met in person yet... I'm Mr. Malassar, and this is my Fiancé, Lady Paiza Dreatus Nykona
* Trev 's head whips around in surprise
<Fritz> Oh yes, we did meet I think, but it is good to have the introduction to your lovely lady! And please, I do prefer Fritz
<Trev> *he looks back and forth between Firrin and Paiza*
<Paiza> Salve. A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lord Frederick, and you are gracious to have invited us into your home.
<Fritz> Of course, you are most welcome!
<Trev> I say, if your good Lady Mother ever decides she wants to part with any of her work, do let us know. I daresay my father would love a piece or two.
* Raveni is captivated by the wedding portrait. There's a look of longing on his face that he can't quite disguise as he takes in the feeling of intense joy present in the image.
* Mitula looks down at her walking companion and whispers
<Fritz> Oh, she has work showing at some salons this season I believe!
<Mitula> Is everything alright? You seemd a little startled by something.
* Trev leads her a little ways away
<Fritz> Those are probably available!
<Trev> The, ah. Mr. Malassar, when I knew him he went by a different name, and it's just a bit surprising to see him in this... capacity, I suppose.
<Trev> I shall have to ask him about it later, likely it's nothing to worry about.
<Mitula> change and growth is natural. Is it surpising they would achieve such a name?
<Trev> Well, I was at the least surprised, myself. There must certainly be an interesting story behind it, I would think.
<Mitula> I guess that makes sense.
<Mitula> I am sure you will find an opportunity to discuss it sometime this evening.

Drinks befpre dinner!

* Galatea will make sure anyone who wants refreshments gets some (presumably they have some stuff set out)
<Mitula> You do seem very capable of navigating these events.
* Molgrin will help himself to some refreshments
<Trev> Your faith in me is inspriring. Shall we to the drinks?
<Fritz> (yeah, not a ton because dinner is going to be insane, but there's wine and fruit maybe)
* Raveni walks up to the refreshments table beside Molgrin
<Mitula> If that is the next step in these parties, then I am glad to have one.
<Raveni> Hello Molgrin, I hope you are doing well today
<Mitula> we should get Saiya drink as well.
<Molgrin> Oh, yes, thank you! It's a pleasure to see you here, Raveni :)
<Trev> Right you are, right you are.
<Raveni> I brought something for you
<Molgrin> You did? :o
<Mitula> Saiya... did you get a drink yet?
<Saiya> No, but I should!
<Fritz> (there is probably also cider but probably this is more Wine Time)
* Raveni pulls a small carving of a moth from his pocket. It is stained in light colours to represent variations on the wings and though it isn't a masterful creation it is quite pretty.
<Galatea> Wine, cider, lemonade?
<Mitula> Oh, what is most appropriate for this evening?
<Raveni> What you said about loving insects stayed with me for the last several days. Norn brought me some beautiful samples of carving blanks and I couldn't resist making it.
* Raveni offers it to Molgrin
<Molgrin> oh :o It's lovely! the colours make it look like a hawk moth :D
<Raveni> 3
* Molgrin accepts it with surprise and admiration
<Galatea> We have cider from Stillmarch and wine from Therma Alba. The lemons are from Nachtur, I think? ;)
<Raveni> (oops, cat attack)
<Molgrin> That's so thoughtful of you, thank you
* Molgrin tucks it into his inner pocket for safekeeping, after admiring it for a while longer
<Raveni> You're very welcome
<Mitula> Feels like the cider would be the most appropriate, to start then. Does that make sense?
* Mitula looks to her companions
<Saiya> That sounds good to me!
<Galatea> Monty would be pleased.
<Trev> No complaints on my end, certainly
* Firrin trying not to notice Mol and Raveni or how he is dressed too much like Trev, and chat politely
* Galatea will get cider for folks. She'll make sure to give Saiya a significant look, glance at Mhireen, and give an approving smile.
<Firrin> Would you care for a drink?
* Firrin asks Paiza
<Saiya> Thank you Tea! This is just DELECTABLE :D
<Paiza> That would be lovely, yes.
<Lanpc> oh good I'm glad you approve!
* Saiya sips the cider
<Galatea> I'm glad you like it. The Allards are quite proud of it.
<Fritz> oh good I'm glad you approve!
<Saiya> Is this from your own family estate?
<Mitula> It is very good.
<Saiya> Or, your brother's, I suppose it must be?
<Fritz> yes, apples from the family estate and all thsat - though this is from my brother's private reserves
<Firrin> what would you prefer?
<Saiya> Wonderful - thank him for us, then :D
<Mitula> he wont be upset with us drinking it, will he?
* Mitula holds the cup now worried she has crossed some line
<Fritz> He said that I must be sure to make my guests fell wholly welcome!
* Trev grins widely and takes a large sip
<Mitula> I'm glad to hear that. Thank him for us.
<Fritz> Besides, its not doing him any good here when he's off in... Yeshual, I think
* Fritz waves a hand, indicating that its ver far
* Raveni sips at first politely, then with great enthusiasm as he discovers a new favourite beverage
* Paiza is now known as Mhireen
* Trev looks impressed
<Trev> That far, is he?
<Mhireen> Oof, that's quite the posting.
<Fritz> he was in Ebemar until recently but they transferred him because of the gate!
<Trev> Lucky man, to be able to see it firsthand.
<Fritz> oh he's all Military, he probably can't appreciate it properly at all!
<Fritz> I'm hoping things will stabilize and I can visit :D
<Molgrin> Is his husband also with him? It would be sad to have a newly married couple sent far apart from one another.
<Fritz> I wasn't clear on that? They were together in Ebemar, at least
<Galatea> Certainly Monty wouldn't go without Nik.
<Galatea> It's so romantic, this big adventure for the two of them.
<Fritz> I suppose so!
<Fritz> I don't think he'd *want* to leave him but Sentinels, you know
* Galatea nods.
<Mhireen> Your brother in law isn't military, then?
<Fritz> No, his father is the head, or acting head, of House Camelia I believe
<Mitula> We can offer a prayer for both their safety and security so far away, at least.
<Fritz> I don't really know all ther politics, I admit!
<Fritz> and that's so very kind!
<Galatea> Indeed, thank you.
<Galatea> Perhaps we should show everyone around a little, Fritz? Then make our way in to dinner?
<Fritz> oh, yes!
* Mhireen is now known as Norn
* Norn will make his way inside, looking terribly sorry to be late.
* Fritz can show people around the 'public areas' of the house and tell some of its history, including that some Allard ancestor did in fact kill a Griffin that was nesting here and then claimed the spot for the house
* Saiya admires the house and asks various questions about it
* Raveni brightens upon seeing Norn arrive and join the tour, then shoots a nervous glance at their chaperone and tries to keep a neutral expression on their face

Saiya and Fritz chat a little during the tour, and are joined by Euphrastus

<Saiya> (when do we want to say this is, before/during/after dinner? before/after games?)
<Fritz> (lets say during the tour maybe, at a point where galatea has taken over?)
<Saiya> (ok)
<Saiya> (what room are we in? ;)
<Fritz> (Let's say we're in the Akhasic Room :V)
<Saiya> (cool)
<Saiya> Oh! This rug looks like the kind my grandmother has :D
<Fritz> oh wonderful - I did want to make sure you got to see this! This is mostly things my father collected when he was posted in Akhas!
<Fritz> I know he travelled all over, but Monty knows better where everything is from

)

<Saiya> It's lovely! I simply MUST go back to Ahkas someday :D
<Saiya> Was your father there for very long?
<Fritz> I'm not sure, I don't really know very much about him.
<Fritz> I think he was for several years? and then back and forth?
<Saiya> Oh... I'm sorry, I didn't realize.
<Fritz> I know my oldest brother was nearly born there, but I think mother insisted they come back beforehand
* Saiya nods
<Saiya> Well, it's a fascinating place - although I guess maybe if you are there in a war or something it's not as fun...
<Fritz> I think he was mostly there after the wars? To help with the peace treaties and things like that
<Saiya> Oh, that's not so bad then!
<Fritz> which is why he was able to travel so much and acquire so many beautiful things!
<Fritz> I think there are more in Stillmarch, probably in storage, unless Monty has them pulled out there too
* Euphrastus (~Forthrigh@d24-57-67-2.home.cgocable.net) has joined #awrr
<Saiya> Did your brother do the decorating here? Or was it like this when you were little too?
<Fritz> oh, he changed most of it here I think?
<Fritz> I didn't really spend much time here when I was little
<Fritz> this wasn't here, or not most of it.
* Fritz looks thoughtful
<Saiya> Oh, I see
<Fritz> maybe the vases? But not in this room
<Fritz> I'm not sure!
* Saiya picks up a little stone statue off a side table
<Saiya> This is interesting - it must be very old!
<Fritz> I think so?
<Fritz> Monty told me but I don't remember
<Saiya> Is it a little cat? or a fox? hnmmm...
<Fritz> whichever you like I suppose ^_^
<Saiya> well I choose to think it's a cat :3
* Saiya sets it back down carefully
<Saiya> a cat with a fluffy tail :3
* Euphrastus enters the room, looking at the patterns on the wall hangings and idly running his fingers along one.
<Fritz> perfect ^-^
<Fritz> Oh hello :)
<Euphrastus> Mm? Oh! Yes, hello, sorry, I was distracted.
* Saiya turns to see who it is, and smiles
<Saiya> Oh, perfect, an expert in antiques :D
<Euphrastus> There's so much here.
<Euphrastus> It's a fine collection.
<Saiya> Fritz was just saying how his father brought it back after his posting in Ahkas :)
<Saiya> The things in here, anyway
<Fritz> yes!
<Fritz> Most of the house furnishings are newer I think?
<Fritz> Maybe you can tell me ^-^
<Euphrastus> Well, I can try ... what do you want to know about?
<Fritz> ih well - Miss Harrowden was just looking at this little... animal?
<Saiya> Yes, I was admiring this statuette :)
<Euphrastus> Ah yes, the dog?
* Saiya smiles
<Saiya> Well, perhaps - but I BELIEVE it is a cat, myself :D
<Euphrastus> Oh! Well, far be it from me to contradict you, Lady Saiya.
<Euphrastus> We had so few small animals around when I was growing up, in Mag Tureah.
<Saiya> It could also be a fox but I'm not sure... I just thought it was cute :3
<Euphrastus> I'm afraid, despite what ever skills I may have, animal identification is a weak point. And may the stars forfend that I am ever asked to draw such a beast!
* Saiya giggles
<Fritz> well I will keep that in mind for the later entertainments >:)
* Euphrastus shudders.
<Euphrastus> Sorry, just a momentary premonition.
<Euphrastus> It happens to the Graeae.
<Fritz> dont worry, its all in fun, no one is judged on their artistic merits :D
<Fritz> I hope your premonition was not abput the games, though!
<Saiya> How do you know when it's a premonition?
<Euphrastus> How do you know when it's green, rather than blue? It's hard to describe to one who does not have it.
<Euphrastus> It's the experience.
<Saiya> Oooh.
<Fritz> oh yes I do know how that can be!
<Euphrastus> I will say that in terms of age, this animal - I shall concede the point - this cat - is around a century old. Not ancient, certainly, but hardly new.
<Saiya> Oh, I thought it might be older - it looks so ancient and worn, like it's been handled down from generations past. But I suppose maybe they made it to look older?
<Fritz> well its from before the wars so maybe there is some kind of story?
<Fritz> well the Akhasic wars, in anycase
<Fritz> or from right at the beginning!
<Euphrastus> Not unusual. But also, it's soapstone, so it wears more quickly than others.
<Fritz> that is true, it's very soft!
<Fritz> you could probably carve it with your nails!
* Fritz says to Saiya
* Saiya smiles
<Saiya> Oh, do you think so? I don't want to damage it though!
<Fritz> ... but please don't test it, manty would be very cross :x
<Fritz> (Monty)
<Euphrastus> Well, I've just had a manicure, so I won't test that.
* Saiya nods
<Fritz> oh good, thank you ^_^;
<Fritz> My cousin said you have a general interest in antiques?
<Fritz> or was that professional?
<Euphrastus> Both an interest and a vocation.
<Euphrastus> Jewelry and precious stones, particularly, but across the range of antiquities.
<Fritz> Oh hmmm, I'm sure there must be somethign in the house that would be of interest...
<Euphrastus> Well, I don't want to distract from whatever is planned ... although, I must confess, there is very little that gives me more pleasure than sharing my gifts with others who are interested.
<Fritz> Oh true!
<Fritz> Maybe we should catch up with the others then, *I*'m supposed to be giving the tour, after all, though I don't mind spending more time in here :)
* Saiya nods
<Saiya> Thank you for showing me around here, it was a treat :)
<Fritz> you're very welcome!

Firrin and Euphrastus chat about FASHION

* Firrin will have been eyeing Euphrastus, tryignto be surreptitious about it
* Euphrastus has terrible peripheral vision, so that won't be hard
* Euphrastus is looking at the various art on the walls, mostly, and trying not to bump into anything, as the place is not quite built for someone of his girth
* Firrin steps quickly out of your way as you move back
<Firrin> Oh, I'm sorry!
* Euphrastus steps back to look at a portrait and almost steps into you.
<Euphrastus> Oh dear!
<Euphrastus> Entirely my fault.
<Firrin> not at all, I was distracted, ah, just admiring your coat :)
<Euphrastus> Oh, ahh, thank you!
<Euphrastus> Are you having a good evening, Mr. Malassar?
<Firrin> :) Oh, ah, yes!
<Firrin> and you?
<Euphrastus> It's a lovely home. I am always a little anxious about sitting in the wrong place, though.
<Euphrastus> But that, I am accustomed to.
<Firrin> well, if our host invited you, hopefully he will have considered the issue...
<Euphrastus> I'm sure.
<Euphrastus> How is Lady Paiza, if I may ask?
<Firrin> She's well - we were both grateful for the invitation and the opportunity to socialize
<Euphrastus> As am I. It is a most genial event.
* Euphrastus smiles.
<Euphrastus> Your outfit is quite a jaunty piece.
<Firrin> is it?
<Firrin> It wasn't meant to be...
<Euphrastus> Well, if I might give a few insights ... when one wears a piece that matches one's skin tone, as a vest, or a cummerbund, or any such thing, it evokes the notion that one might see more.
<Euphrastus> The cut is just right to give a sense of mystery.
<Firrin> Oh, ah, of course.
<Firrin> is yours, was it made for you?
<Euphrastus> Yes, it is my fate to be a slave to the tailor. I am glad to have a good one, though.
<Firrin> the style is a bold choice...
<Euphrastus> Thank you - I hope it conveys the season's character, while still hearkening back to antecedents.
<Euphrastus> It's hardly comfortable, alas.
<Firrin> oh that's a shame
<Firrin> too tight?
* Firrin guesses, looking you over
* Euphrastus chuckles, then nods.
<Euphrastus> One's inseam gives so much away.
* Firrin smiles, amused, glad that his blushes don't really show
<Firrin> what do you take for the season's character?
<Euphrastus> Thin lines, narrow, slimming. Certainly, the gowns are extravagant, but when one looks back at portraits from years gone by, the difference is clear.
<Euphrastus> I have been thinking, too, about jewelry and accessories.
* Firrin nods
<Firrin> I do really like the lines, they can do so much for a gentleman's figure
<Firrin> I should give more thought to accessories, though
<Firrin> Your monacle is quite a statement piece
<Firrin> do you have different ones, or is it special?
* Euphrastus smiles.
<Euphrastus> I do have different ones, and they are each special in their own way. Session Time: Fri Aug 29 00:00:00 2025
<Firrin> oh, of course!
<Euphrastus> I began wearing the monocle as an affectation, a sort of habit, almost a joke. Now I think of it like a flourish in a signature.
<Firrin> I think it suits you. It's, hmmm... distinctive in manner?
<Euphrastus> Thank you!
<Euphrastus> I think there are those who would have me hide myself away, make myself what I am not. In response, I have always thought, rather, why not be *more
* of what I am?
<Euphrastus> You, too, do a fine job of not hiding yourself away.
<Firrin> Thank you. It's, ah, a new habit I'm practicing
<Firrin> ...perhaps we shoudl catch u with the others though?
<Euphrastus> Yes, you're quite right, we wouldn't want to miss the games!

Trev waylays Firrin to interrogate him about wtf he is doing there

* Trev waits near the rear of the group during the tour, and gives Firrin a Significant Look and a quick head jerk to another door as they go down the hall
* Firrin wants to pretend he didn't see, except that there was eye contact.... but still hesitates
* Trev waits by the door, expectantly
* Firrin will steel himself, then, and excuse himself for a moment before joining you in what seems to be some kind of study
* Trev closes the door behind them both
<Trev> What the devil is going on here, Liralu?
<Firrin> I'm not sure what you mean.
<Trev> What's all this business about changing your name, and marrying that good woman? What sort of trick are you trying to pull?
<Firrin> It's not a trick. Malassar is my father's name.
<Firrin> :)
<Trev> So, what, Liralu was your mother, then?
<Firrin> her family name, yes.
<Trev> So why not go by Malassar before?
<Trev> Had he not claimed you properly?
* Firrin stares at you for a moment
<Firrin> that's a personal matter :)
* Trev gives Firrin an unimpressed look
<Trev> Stop fucking around, Lir-- Malassar.
* Firrin crosses his arms, and his tail twitches
<Firrin> I'm not? :)
* Trev stares at him in silence for a bit
<Firrin> I'm sorry but - my private life is not any matter of yours.
<Firrin> :)
<Trev> After how you disappeared on me?
<Firrin> dis- what?
* Trev throws his hands up in frustration
* Firrin looks actually offended before tring to put the mask of :) back on
<Trev> What do you mean, 'what'? You just left! With no warning!
<Trev> Do you have any idea how long it took to find a suitable replacement?
<Trev> I went through SEVEN valets before I found Everett
* Firrin is flabberghast
<Trev> The very least you could have done is given notice so I could hae started the search earlier
<Firrin> your family *dismissed
* me! And my mother! We had to return to Highmark with *nothing*!
<Trev> What?
* Trev looks offended
<Trev> My father would never do that, why would he even--?
<Firrin> Oh he made it wquite clear! perhaps he didn't want to offend your overinflated ego >:|
<Trev> What the hell are you talking about?
<Trev> Why would he -- I mean *of course
* I would have given you a reference, you wouldn't be gone with *nothing*, you hadn't even done anything objectionable at that point
<Firrin> I never did any objectionable at all - he said it was inappropriate to continue in service, because of my mark.
* Firrin tries to calm himself down
<Firrin> I'm sorry - perhaps you really were never informed.
<Trev> Your *what?*
* Firrin doens't quite believe that though.... more like it didn't seem worth paying attention to at the timeyou were told and you forgot.
* Trev very likely was not XD
<Firrin> My dragonmark.
<Trev> You don't have a dragonmark.
* Nary is now known as Molgrin
* Trev says as though this is obvious
<Firrin> I do :)
<Trev> Why the fuck would you be a *valet
* if you had a *dragonmark*
<Trev> there's not like a-- a-- a Mark of, of.... ironing!
* Trev waves his hand around with clearly no real idea of what a valet does when out of sight
<Firrin> Well as it turns out, I couldn't :)
* Firrin 's tail is still twitching
* Trev is just standing there visibly confused
<Firrin> ... well I'm glad that's all cleared up then. excuse me. :)
* Firrin will turn to go
* Trev is so discombobulated that he doesn't even stop him leaving
* Molgrin opens the door, stepping in oblivious to the scene inside
<Firrin> !
<Molgrin> Oh, excuse me! I thought ...
<Firrin> :) I was :) Just leaving :) excuse me :)
<Molgrin> oh, uh, of course
* Molgrin steps aside to let you pass
<Molgrin>
are you all right?
<Trev> Fine, thank you
* Molgrin asks under his breath as Firrin goes by
* Trev responds in distraction
* Firrin actually doesn't reply because he is very NOT alright but need to continue to *act
* alright
* Molgrin is confused and worried
* Molgrin doesn't stop Firrin, but will watch as he leaves.
<Trev> ... blast, the *tour*
* Trev walks out to rejoin the group
<Molgrin> Oh, yes, that was what I was going to say - they're moving on to the next floor, so if folks don't want to be left behind, we ought to catch up!
* Molgrin says, a bit distracted still
* Molgrin wanders off after the group as well

Paiza notices Firrin's distress, and they talk out on the balcony

* Firrin spends the time it takes to return to the group to try and calm down, with medium success
* Paiza will have been following along with the group, admiring Griffon's Crest, eventually spotting Firrin as he returns.
<Paiza> Oh, there you are. I thought we'd lost you there for a bit. :)
<Firrin> Sorry :) about that :)
<Paiza> Something catch your attention?
<Firrin> Mr. Marceador wanted to speak to me, that's all :)
<Paiza> Oh? What about?
<Firrin> I...ah..
* Firrin looks aroudn to make sure no oen is paying attention and Mol isn't about to ambush him again
<Firrin> [quietly] I used to work for him...
<Firrin> he was,ah, surprised to see me:) In a social capacity :)
<Paiza> Oh? Oh! Hmm... [q] I can see how that might be awkward.
<Paiza> Did you...want to leave? Or step outside for a moment or something?
<Firrin> oh, I don't wish to be rude, or disappoint out host.... I'll be fine :)
<Paiza> If you're sure, I'm happy to stay, but if you need a moment, I don't think that would be rude.
<Paiza> [q] It's okay to take a second for yourself.
<Firrin> [q] ...maybe just a moment
* Paiza will look for a nearish doorway through which to duck, taking Firrin by the arm.
<Paiza> (For humor's sake, I'm thinking this should be a balcony. :) )
<Firrin> (ah ha, yes!)
<Paiza> Here, now you can get a breath of fresh...air...
* Paiza freezes, seeing the sheer drop from the balcony.
* Firrin will let himself be steered, and take a deep breath once we are outside before opening his eyes and realizing where we are
<Firrin> Oh no....
* Paiza steps back a little quickly, perhaps knocking Firrin a little off balance.
<Paiza> No, no, I'm all right.
<Paiza> I'll just...be all right over here, next to the door.
* Firrin manages not to seriously stumble at least
* Firrin takes another steadying breath
<Firrin> are you sure?
* Paiza nods, maybe a bit to quickly, but smiles gamely.
* Firrin frowns, but feels better to deal with someone else's concerns
<Firrin> ...If you want to feel more secure, or, or if you wanted to look more closely... I can ensure that you don't fall?
* Paiza will take a few small steps towards the railing/edge/what have you.
* Firrin will offer his hand
<Firrin> My mark can... fix people in place?
* Paiza will take his hand.
<Paiza> It does? Literal binding? ;)
<Firrin> it is a very direct presentation, I'm told...
<Paiza> But clearly useful.
<Firrin> but I could use it, if you like, and then you'd not be able to fall. Or move your feet, I suppose.
<Firrin> I'm sure it *could* be quite useful.
<Paiza> Have you experimented with it much? I feel like there could be many uses for being able to lock one person or another in place.
<Firrin> I haven't had much opportunity.
<Paiza> Well, you have plenty of time. :)
<Paiza> Can you remove the effect at will, or is it time sensitive or somesuch?
<Firrin> I can remove it, but it will wear off
* Paiza nods.
<Paiza> Okay, if you're sure...let's give it a try.
* Paiza will step falteringly to the edge.
<Paiza> You *are* sure, right?
<Firrin> Very sure.
* Firrin will make a gesture with his free hand
<Firrin> there.
* Firrin smiles
<Firrin> (she should be able to move except her feet at least, like standing in a glue trap :V)
* Paiza twists and turns to test it out.
<Paiza> Fascinating.
* Paiza peers over the edge, squeezing Firrin's hand hard.
* Paiza pulls back fairly quickly.
<Paiza> Okay, still very scary, but less so. Thank you. :)
<Paiza> It *is* a nice view.
<Firrin> it's spectacular...
<Firrin> do you want to go back in?
<Paiza> Do you? We came out here for you.
<Paiza> Was Mr. Marceador being rude?
<Firrin> Oh.
<Firrin> ahh...
<Firrin> It's fine.
<Paiza> Is it really fine, or do you think it has to be fine?
<Paiza> It's just us here.
<Firrin> oh.
<Firrin> He said some things that were quite upsetting but... perhaps it was not his fault.. I don't know.
<Paiza> I'm sorry he said those things.
<Firrin> (don't)
<Paiza> We can just take a moment out here.
<Firrin> Thank you. I think I will be alright. It's just one dinner.
* Paiza nods.
<Paiza> It shouldn't be all bad, I would think. Your friend Mr. Braalk is here, after all, and he seems nice.
* Firrin briefly considers flinging himself over the side of the balcony
<Firrin> Yes... isn't he? :)
* Paiza smiles obliviously.
<Paiza> So there's that to help fortify you. Everyone else seems quite welcoming as well. We'll just be sure to avoid Mr. Marceador and any further unpleasantness. Hmm?
<Firrin> yes, I think it should still be be a nice evening
* Paiza nods.
<Paiza> Are you feeling up to heading back inside?
<Firrin> Yes... and truly, thank you.
* Paiza smiles.
<Paiza> Thank you.
<Firrin> you've been very understanding about... everything.
<Paiza> Everyone has a backstory, Firrin. If you care about a person, it behooves you to understand what made them who they are, whatever the circumstances.
<Paiza> I know we don't know each other very well at all, but I would at least like to try to start on a good footing. :)
* Firrin nods
<Firrin> That's sensible...and kind. I'm glad for the chance to get to know hyou somewhat better this evening, if nothing else.
<Paiza> Likewise.
<Paiza> And for the chance to enjoy this view without fear. Or at least not as much. ;)
<Firrin> shall we return then?
* Paiza nods, and will take him by the arm again.

Mol talks to Paiza, and tells her he's had a falling out with Firrin

* Molgrin finds himself in a room with Paiza, waiting for the others to catch up/escape
<Molgrin> Oh, um, good evening :)
* Paiza smiles pleasantly.
<Paiza> Good evening to you as well, Mr. Braalk. How've you been?
<Molgrin> I suppose I am all right. The party is very congenial so far.
* Molgrin is a bit subdued
<Paiza> For the most part, I believe so, yes. It's a lovely home, and Lord Scrye is a gracious, if quite enthusiastic, host.
<Paiza> Is aught amiss? Perhaps you'd like something to drink?
<Molgrin> He certainly is very welcoming. And... yes, a drink might be nice, thank you.
<Paiza> Something cold, strong or both? :)
<Molgrin> oh... both, I suppose?
<Paiza> The cider it is, then.
* Paiza will head over in that direction to get drinks for the both of them.
* Molgrin realizes he's getting a noblewoman to wait on him and hastens after her
<Molgrin> oh, thank you, that's very kind, you don't need to get it for me....
<Paiza> It's not a problem. This *is
* a bit more informal a gathering, after all.
<Molgrin> Still, I feel like I ought to be the one waiting on you.
* Paiza smiles.
<Paiza> I won't protest if you insist, but I'm perfectly capable of pouring a drink or two.
<Molgrin> well, um... all right.
* Molgrin is torn between deciding which is ruder - letting her do it, or arguing about it ;)
* Paiza will pour drinks for them if Mol doesn't stop her.
* Molgrin will not stop her
<Paiza> So, *is
* something the matter. You seemed...pensive, perhaps?
* Molgrin looks momentarily panic-stricken at the prospect of having to answer that question, but hides it to the best of his ability.
<Molgrin> I don't really know. I suppose it's difficult for me to feel quite at ease here, for various reasons.
<Paiza> Aww, I'm quite sorry to hear that. Is there anything that would help you feel more at ease?
* Molgrin gives a somewhat nervous laugh at that
<Molgrin> Without going back and changing the previous week or so, or perhaps the previous nineteen years of my life, I don't believe so.
<Paiza> Oh, goodness, is it truly so terrible? Would you like to talk about it? I may be essentially a stranger, but sometimes that can help.
<Molgrin> have you ever felt like you made an unforgivable misjudgment, and lost a friend because of it? :/
<Paiza> Oh, hmm...well, not a friend, really, but I have made a terrible misjudgment that....cost me dearly.
<Paiza> I'm sorry to hear you're having such trouble.
<Molgrin> I'm sorry you've experienced something like that too.
<Paiza> Are you sure of your misjudgement? Perhaps it was just a miscommunication?
<Molgrin> No it was worse than that. I ... I doubt he will forgive me. So please, um, if you can, be good to him? I know he's nervous about marrying you, but you seem kind - I'm sure if you can work things out between you, it will be all right, and... and then I won't have to worry....
* Molgrin trails off awkwardly
<Paiza> Wait, did something happen between you and Firrin?
* Molgrin swallows approximately 80% of his cider.
* Paiza looks genuinely concerned.
<Molgrin> it was my fault, he didn't do anything wrong
<Paiza> Surely it wasn't anything that can't be fixed, no?
<Molgrin> No, I don't think so, I mean.... I don't know how.
<Molgrin> I'm sorry, I shouldn't bother you with this.
<Paiza> I don't necessarily want to insert myself into the middle of things, but Firrin *is* my fiance and you are, to my knowledge, at least among his oldest friends. Perhaps you could explain what happened and I can see if there's any way I can help?
<Molgrin> ...
<Molgrin> I can't. I'm afraid it wouldn't be appropriate. It's not my place to say, and ... and Firrin would be even more mad at me, I'm sure.
* Paiza frowns sympathetically.
<Molgrin> I wish you and Firrin well, Lady Paiza, and I hope you'll be happy together. Excuse me.
* Molgrin hurries away before he either says something stupid or starts crying or both.
* Paiza frowns sympathetically, about to try to stop Molgrin, but will ultimately let him go.
* Molgrin exits the room, promptly sees Firrin, and will turn around and go the opposite direction so he doesn't have to be faced with me.
* Paiza will take a sip of her drink, frowning after Mol.

Paiza presses Firrin about his falling out with Mol

* Firrin is kind of dazed from listening to Fritz go on about windows, but does get a little wide eyed when Mol turns to avoid him
* Firrin will return a bit warily to Paiza
<Firrin> ...Sorry about that.
<Firrin> who would have thought there was so much to say about arched windows @_@
<Paiza> I'm sure it's easy to get caught up in one's interests...
* Paiza says idly, still looking at the door.
<Paiza> What happened between you and Mr. Braalk?
* Paiza asks, her gaze jutting over to Firrin.
<Paiza> He seemed *very* upset and...sad, I think.
<Firrin> ahh...
<Firrin> that's...ahhh......what...did he say?
<Paiza> He said it was...inappropriate for him to say, and he thought you would be upset with him if he did so.
<Paiza> I was trying to help as best I could, but he wished us the best and, well, you saw him as he left, precipitously.
<Firrin> ...oh.
<Paiza> He also said something about an "unforgiveable misjudgment" that cost him a friendship.
<Paiza> Presumably yours?
* Firrin 's tail twitches and he crosses his arms, looking away, upset
<Firrin> Why must this evening be so trying
<Firrin> I'm sorry.
<Paiza> I'm not upset.
<Paiza> Or, rather, I'm not angry.
<Paiza> Just confused and concerned. Mr. Braalk seems so nice, I can't imagine what he could have done.
<Firrin> I.... He... Well.
* Firrin shakes his head.
<Firrin> I wish he hadn't said anythig to you.
<Paiza> You'd prefer to keep an upsetting secret?
* Paiza 's expression is softer than her words.
<Firrin> I.... I don't think this is the venue.
<Paiza> I did tell him I didn't want to pry, but...as I understand it, our match means a lot of change for you. I wouldn't want you to lose what comfort of your previous life you can hold onto.
* Paiza nods.
<Paiza> As you wish.
* Firrin looks very dejected for a moment
<Firrin> YOu are far too kind.
<Paiza> Experience has taught me it is often little more difficult than being unpleasant, and ultimately far more enjoyable.
<Paiza> Would you care for something to drink? A bit of "liquid Will save", if you will? ;)
<Paiza> Or is it Wisdom these days? I haven't kept up with the guild handbooks.
<Firrin> I'm not sure.... But I thank you for the offer but I think it's too likely to impair my actual save, whatever it is
<Firrin> But perhaps.... after dinner, we can make our excuses, sooner rather than later?
<Paiza> Of course, whatever you prefer. I'd hate for you to remain in any distress.
<Firrin> Thank you.
<Firrin> :)

Dinner, and GAMES!

* Fritz will lead everyone to the dining room for a full two course dinner with desert
<Fritz> (like, here is the soup and meat course, and then the fish and pies and game course, regency dinners were nuts)
<Galatea> (Nuts are a later course. Or earlier, I forget. ;) )
* Fritz will bring everyone in to the parlour after dinner and explain the drawing game :V
