Pietro Deanda
Pietro was the third son of a fairly powerful noble family, but isn’t himself in-line for any titles. As was family tradition he was to join the church, but after studying with them for a time he got permission to leave. He simply wasn’t ready to be dedicated to the church. He planed on traveling, seeing the world, being a great bard. Unfortunately before he could really do much traveling he fell from his horse and hit the back of his head, striking him blind.
After that it wasn’t really feasible to travel, so he returned to life as a cleric. Pietro has always been very gifted with the insight of his house, and he often uses it to help make decisions. Both this decision to leave the church and the decision to return were made after particularly powerful insights. This made his transitions considerably smoother. As one cleric in his order put it, “You left because you were not ready, and now you are. I know you were not gone as long as you thought you would be, but that was the will of the gods.”
Pietro is very comfortable with his blindness…in fact, he is now so good at moving around and such it can be hard to tell he is blind at all. He is a little self conscious about his eyes though. Because of the damage they point off in opposite directions and he has very little control over were they move…for that reason he keeps them covered with a simple purple cloth, like a blindfold.
He uses a walking stick that is subtlety reinforced so he can use it as a quarter staff if he needs too. He also owns a very nice (MW) rapier which he doesn’t carry often but was meant to be his “signature weapon” back when he was to be a bard. It’s a little over decorated but of very good quality.
Even though he can now read by touch he still isn’t as well read as some clerics, but he tends to make up for it by being involved in the music of the church. He can play the organ, as well as sing quite powerfully. He isn’t above singing a bawdry tale from time to time and knows some very good battle songs, but he likes to revive a lot of the great hymns of the church. He seems to know a hymn for every occasion, and not the slow ponderous ones that some old priests use…a service performed by Pietro is always very lively and good for all ages. As such he is often asked to oversee services in churches with young parishioners, kids sit better through his services than others.
Pietro’s eldest brother tries to be everything a noble should be, he’s good with a sword, served as an officer in the army and dresses in spiffy clothing…but he’s not nearly as sure of himself as he pretends to be. He’s a pillow biter to be sure and sometimes confides in Pietro. He isn’t comfortable with anyone other than his brothers seeing any weakness in him.
His second brother is a mage, specializing in divination magic. Oddly enough he was never very good and his houses special ability, this may have led him to choose his specialization. He is by all accounts very accomplished, he likes to be meticulous about everything, and doesn’t like to leave anything to chance.
Pietro also has a younger sister and a very young brother, but since this is only going on for a couple of gaming sessions I’m not going to make you invent an assload of NPC’s for me so I’ll just leave it at that.
