* Logging #changeling to 'logs\diablotin10' Session Start: Mon Jan 13 17:46:24 2003
(Curtana) It's going to be a group session tonight.
(Loch) And I will have to leave for about 15-20 min around 5 to eight to pick up my better half
(Curtana) Should not be a problem.
(Loch) Need to research strange language used by Rat Empress
(Curtana) *snick*
(Curtana) So noted.
(Curtana) If you have time for individual stuff at the end (not too likely, but always possible) you can do so. Otherwise, I'll assume you do that before the next game.
(Curtana) Anything else, anyone?
(Falke) Nope... not at the moment.
(Curtana) Alright, then, we'll start when Lan and Terry get back.
(Narrator_) Okay, we'll start, then.
(Narrator_) It is a rather cool day for the beginning of Fifth-month, and as you rise in the early hours of the morning, a light mist is drifting off the river.
(Narrator_) Since last time...
(Narrator_) Kalman, you have heard that Sekia Dizon is still alive, but hovers near death, being treated.
(Falke) (Oh, one question: how much time has passed since the pah-tay?)
(Narrator_) (about a week)
(Falke) (and have I noticed any symptoms fo STDs?  ;^D)
(Narrator_) (nope, you seem fine)
(Falke) (phew)
(Kalman) (I'm sure Althea can afford to keep herself clean ;p)
(Narrator_) Boden continues to stew...
* Kalman tosses in some taters and seasoning! ;)
(Narrator_) Belden finds herself thinking of her mentor, Brother Butler, in a new light.
(Narrator_) Loch is beginning to research the strange language spoken by the woman in the sewer.
(Narrator_) Other than that, things are mainly they were.
(Narrator_) Pearl City is fairly quiet this morning, the combination of the early hour and the bad weather serving to keep most people indoors.
(Narrator_) You have some time to talk as you patrol, as there's not much work right now ;)
(Kalman) ...
* Belden has been a little more quiet since Pavo's blowup.
(Boden) I'm thinking of getting a dog.
* Loch looks around at his companions, trying to guage their moods
(Belden) Oh really?
(Belden) Would you keep it at the barracks?
* Falke has been quiet as well, but that's not all that unusual.
* Boden looks more thoughtful than usual.
(Kalman) what breed?
(Boden) I don't think I could.
(Boden) I'm not sure yet. a big dog.
* Falke has taken to reading out of a little book at night in the barracks.
* Kalman nods
(Falke) (he doesn't turn pages often ^-^))
(Belden) I don't know; they might let you, as long as it didn't make a mess.
(Belden) That would be fun...
(Belden) Like a mascot.
(Boden) Maybe I'll ask.
(Belden) I miss having animals around.
(Boden) me too.
* Kalman nods
(Falke) We could adopt any number of strays...
* Boden looks around to make sure no one is listening in to our group.
* Falke eyes a mangy-looking beast as it passes by.
* Loch pats Willam reminding him not to get too upset at their comments
(Narrator_) The streets are quite deserted, Boden.
(Boden) (w)and with our ring, training will be easy.
* Belden nods.
(Falke) ...
* Kalman wonders how things are arranged in the barracks, for sleeping quarters, but doens't want to appear ignorant, so doesn't ask
(Falke) Is that really fair? Seems like... cheating.
(Belden) I like to think it just makes it easier for the animals to understand us.
(Boden) Well...I don't think the dog will mind. And I'm not going to put him in any shows.
(Kalman) cheating?
* Belden says with a shrug.
(Falke) Maybe you're right.
(Pav0) I understand what you mean Falke.
(Boden) If I was going to show him...then it would be cheating.
* Falke nods to Belden.
(Pavo) For a ... pet... it seems less respectful.
(Boden) hmmm?
* Boden looks confused at Pavo.
(Belden) Less respectful than a switch?
(Kalman) depends on what you mean by 'pet'
(Pavo) I mean... the ring seems more like a controlling device, than a communication device.
* Loch listens quietly
(Belden) That's what they get in the way of training, more often than not.
(Falke) Somehow... I just can't see our Boden with a lapdog...
(Falke) It will be a working dog, most like.
(Belden) Oh, he could help us track down felons!
(Kalman) . o O (Or a 'hunting' Dog...)
(Kalman) mmm
(Kalman) That's what I was thinking
(Belden) What a gret idea.
* Kalman eyes Boden
(Belden) If you mention that, Boden, I'm sure the captain will let you...
(Boden) yeah, and I actually have training in...er training animals.
(Boden) And pavo...Its not really a controlling device.
* Belden nods.
(Pavo) As do I...
(Boden) like...it doesn't really work that way.
(Pavo) I just went from how the dog behaved.
(Boden) Yeah, they will follow you around and stuff...but its more they think you are their friend. If you treat them bad then it breaks the...thingy.
* Boden waves his fingers in front of him like bad spell casting.
(Pavo) Oh?
(Falke) That's not so bad then, I guess.
(Pavo) Ok... that comforts me :)
* Loch chuckles quietly
* Kalman grins
(Falke) We can feed it that horrible stew they feed us on Fridays.
(Boden) Yeah, like if I used it on a deer I wanted to eat...it wouldn't work.
(Pavo) At least as far as "pets" go. I suppose a working animal is different.
(Boden) he he he
(Belden) . o O (We should be thankful for what we are given.)
* Boden laughs at falks joke.
(Kalman) that bad?
(Pavo) (*shuts up as he remembers he has Train Animal and probably knows better*)
(Falke) You can't even imagine...
(Pavo) (or handle or something)
(Belden) It's not so bad.
(Falke) The first time, I thought the cook spilled the whole pepper mill in by mistake.
(Belden) I'm sure it's very nutritious.
(Falke) But it seems to be the recipe.
(Falke) ...
(Kalman) hmm
(Falke) On second thought, we probably ought not to feed it to a dog.
(Boden) Well...I'll think about it, then when I'm sure I'll talk to Svoboda.
(Boden) I was worried I wouldn't have the time for it. You know, I want to treat it well. But if other people are interested in helping me with it, then that would be good.
(Belden) I'd help.
* Belden says with a smile.
* Boden smiles
(Boden) thanks.
* Kalman frowns the teensyest bit...
(Loch) I'd be glad to help you care for it, Boden
(Falke) I've never had a pet... it might be interesting. I'll help out if you tell me what to do...
(Kalman) . o O (Ahh, well... :/)
* Pavo might voice his preference for cats, if he lived in the quarters anymore.
(Pavo) (:P)
(Falke) It will be toilet trained... right?
(Narrator_) Yes, Pavo has moved out. He's got a nice little place in Rhenea for fairly cheap :)
* Belden gives Falke a strange look.
(Loch) If I was a dog, I wouldnt go anywhere near the latrines
(Falke) I mean, it will ask to go outside when it needs to, right?
(Boden) that tends to be the first thing you train them to do.
(Kalman) mmm
(Kalman) they don't generally come that way, no
(Falke) All right... see? Told you I have no clue about animals.
(Pavo) Maybe the ring will help with that one.
* Falke grins, mocking himself.
(Pavo) "Don't poop in the coop."
(Boden) he he
* Belden hides her hands in the folds of her cleric robes.
* Falke zones out, watching the streets and thinking.
(Loch) did anyone hear anything more about that house?
* Kalman shakes his head
(Boden) What house?
* Belden shakes her head absently.
(Loch) The one in the square
(Belden) In Pearl.
(Boden) No, sorry.
(Belden) (q) Where we saw Izzaguire.
* Loch nods at Belden's comment
* Boden nods as well.
(Kalman) apparently not then
* Kalman says lightly
(Loch) just wondering...
(Falke) ...
(Kalman) we could go by there, I suppose
(Falke) Why not?
(Kalman) there isn't likely to be much activity at this time of day, but maybe later on...
* Falke starts thinking about what Catiana mentioned.
(Narrator_) You head towards White Bear Square, then, and the house.
(Narrator_) You find that there are some workmen going in and out.
* Falke ponders the pros and cons of coming back some day off and staking the place out.
(Narrator_) Carrying ladders, containers of plaster, tools, that sort of thing.
(Loch) ...hard at work.
* Belden watches the steady trickle of workers.
(Belden) So it seems...
(Falke) (I'm going to look around for a vantage point that I might be able to linger in (mostly unnoticed) while we are in the area)
(Kalman) hmmm
(Narrator_) There's the statue of Empress Dorea in the square, which is fairly easy to hide behind.
(Falke) (Heh... someone would notice me sticking around there for a long time, though)
(Narrator_) Some workers are on the roof, replacing tiles.
(Narrator_) Yes, probably true.
(Falke)
(Any rooms for rent in the area?)
* Pavo leans against a far side of the statue.
(Narrator_) It's a fairly nice neighbourhood, as far as Pearl goes. Some fancier shops, decent houses.
(Belden) Doesn't seem to be much of interest going on right now, does there?
(Narrator_) There might be a room for let about a shop or something, but it would not be really cheap.
(Falke) (ok)
(Falke) (I'll have to think about it)
(Kalman) I didn't really think there would be...
(Kalman) we could ask the workmen about what's going on, though
(Falke) ...
(Boden) Yeah, thats the kind of thing we do.
(Falke) If they'll talk freely to a uniform.
(Belden) Let's go over, then.
(Kalman) worth trying
* Loch shruggs
(Falke) We don't all need to go.
* Kalman will wander over to where someone is doing something, like putting up a ladder, or what have you
(Falke) I'll stay here.
* Worker is replacing a broken pane of glass in the front window.
* Belden will go with Kalman.
(Kalman) Someone's finally moving in to this place, then?
* Worker turns to you as you approach
(Worker) Yep.
(Kalman) has it been sold?
* Worker turns back to his work. He sets the small pane of glass into place.
(Worker) I guess so.
* Worker says over his shoulder
* Boden will go with them.
* Kalman nods
* Kalman will be putting his gather info skills to the test here ;)
(Belden) (sense motive)
(Worker) (Belden, he seems quite honest, mostly just wants to get back to his work)
(Kalman) Any idea who to?
* Worker shakes his head
(Worker) Someone rich, I'd wager.
(Kalman) seems so
* Belden chuckles.
* Kalman glances around
(Kalman) Is it a big contract?
(Falke) (Odd neighborhood for it)
* Worker nods
(Worker) Lots of work still to be done, and not enough time to do it.
(Belden) When do they want it finished?
* Belden asks sympathetically.
* Worker sets the piece of glass he was working on and turns around, brushing off his hands
(Worker) End of the week.
(Kalman) reallly?
* Kalman sounds surprised
(Belden) Goodness...
(Kalman) I wonder what the rush is
(Worker) Well, we've been working here a week already.
* Worker shrugs to Kalman's question
(Kalman) mus be anxious to move in, I suppose
(Kalman) Maybe we should let you get back to it
* Belden nods.
* Worker nods agreeably
(Belden) Good luck.
(Worker) Thanks.
(Boden) Yeah, best of luck.
* Worker picks up his supplies and heads into the house.
* Kalman smiles as he heads away
(Kalman) (was he being shifty, or just ignorant?)
(Kalman) (SM)
(Narrator_) Probably just ignorant, you'd guess.
(Falke) What did he have to say?
(Kalman) ('k)
(Belden) The house is supposed to be ready by the end of the week...
* Kalman nods
(Belden) Beyond that, he didn't know anything, really.
(Narrator_) Or, a combination of ignorant and wanting to get back to work and stop answering silly questions ;)
(Boden) but why'd he need a new house?
(Kalman) why not?
(Boden) cuz its a lot of money
(Falke) If you've got the money, might as well spend it.
* Falke shrugs.
(Kalman) probably not to him...
(Loch) (need to go... be back soon)
* Loch is now known as Loch_away
* Boden looks dubiouse
* Falke frowns slightly as he says that.
(Narrator_) (okay)
(Boden) How often does your dad just up and bye a house?
(Kalman) granted... not very often.
(Kalman) But I don't think it will do us too much good to speculate
(Falke) How rich are the Kizers, compared to your family?
(Belden) Well, do we know for sure that someone actually *bought* it, though?
(Belden) The house already belonged to the Kizer family.
(Belden) They could just be fixing it up to move back in.
* Kalman blinks at Falke's question
(Kalman) ...Belden has a point
(Kalman) (Although, what is the answer to that? ;)
(Falke) Well... is that what he told you?
* Falke points his chin over towards the worker.
* Kalman shakes his head
(Kalman) he didn't know
(Narrator_) (They are probably about the same as you - moderately poor for nobles, frightfully rich for commoners ;)
* Belden nods to confirm Kalman's statement.
(Kalman) (we're moderately poor? :o Oh, the *shame*!)
(Kalman) ( ;)
(Narrator_) (heh - why do you think there's so much concern over who Ivona marries? ;)
(Falke) (heh)
(Narrator_) (And Rayce's family *are* filthy rich ;)
(Narrator_) (*cough*)
(Falke) Shall we move along, then?
(Kalman) (I see. And just.... filthy! pah! ;)
(Narrator_) (*grin*)
(Narrator_) So, are you guys moving along, or what?
(Boden) (yes, we move along.)
(Narrator_) Okay.
(Narrator_) You head along, then, continuing your patrol.
(Narrator_) Eventualy, you turn onto Thrawl Street, one of the oldest in the district.
(Narrator_) The houses here are largely made of stone, and probably were once lovely to look at, but most have fallen into disrepair.
* Belden keeps a watchful eye on the street.
(Narrator_) Some are now inhabited by squatters, others are just left vacant.
* Pavo yawns...
(Narrator_) A male voice calls to you as you pass by: "Hist, good sirs..."
(Narrator_) You turn to see a young man, perhaps sixteen or eighteen years of age, standing on the steps of a house to your left.
* Worker is now known as Young_man
* Young_man is dressed in the ragged and patched clothes common to this part of town. He has a head of rather greasy brown curls and a sore on his lip.
(Falke) (No one I recognize?)
* Kalman looks over
(Young_man) (nope)
(Young_man) If ye be guards, I prithee, a word with ye?
* Belden will move a little closer.
(Belden) How can we help you?
* Falke also glances over and smiles in a friendly fashion but lets the others do the talking.
* Kalman will as well
* Young_man is unusually well-spoken and polite.
(Belden) (sense motive)
(Young_man) I am clept Edmon Boscobel, of the House of the Lizard, and verily my troubles are manifold.
* Young_man is now known as Edmon
(Kalman) (ditto)
(Kalman) (and what is clept?)
(Falke) (me too)
(Falke) (re: sense motive)
(Belden) (called)
(Narrator_) (Belden, he seems just to want some help. Kalman - something is very weird about this guy. Falke - ditto what I said for Kalman)
(Falke) (ok)
* Falke pays more attention.
(Kalman) oh?
* Kalman asks with cautious interest
(Edmon) Mine house, which ye now see before ye, falleth into ruin.
* Edmon gestures at the house behind him, a once-fine dwelling, now slowly crumbling into dust.
* Belden looks the house over.
(Edmon) Forsooth, I am lost an ye do not succor me.
* Kalman glances around
(Narrator_) There is definitely something odd about this guy.
(Kalman) It seems to be a common problem around here
* Edmon sounds quite sad.
* Pavo furrows his brow.
* Boden mouths the word succor silently...trying to figure out what it means.
(Falke) What do you hope we might be able to do for you, Edmon?
* Belden looks a bit puzzled as well.
(Edmon) I shall tell ye what I can, an ye come hither.
(Kalman) (does he seem dangerous, or just odd?)
* Belden will take a step closer, since she didn't make her roll.
* Edmon takes a seat on the steps.
(Belden) Please, go ahead.
(Kalman) (and how out of date would his language seem to us?)
* Edmon seems odd. Something in the way he talks - it's very old-fashioned. You don't think he's threatening, though.
* Falke reaches out to put a hand on Belden's shoulder to keep her from getting to close, then quickly removes it. She probably doesn't want to be touched.
* Kalman gives Falke an odd look
* Belden just ignores Falke.
* Falke steps a bit closer with Belden in case the guy tries anything, but he isn't doing anything outwardly threatening.
* Kalman will also approach
(Edmon) Alack, mine home and that of my forefathers has stood vacant, lo these many years.
(Edmon) For a time, to my abiding shame and dishonour, it served as a ... refuge for women of ill-fame.
* Edmon practically spits the last words.
(Edmon) And when the trollops had fled, it became a den of thieves and foul murderers.
* Kalman raises his eyebrows, more at the guys vehemence than anything
* Belden gives him a sympathetic look.
(Belden) . o O (But where is this going?)
(Edmon) Now none remain save myself... and the spirits.
(Kalman) (City Lore... might I know when there was last a Brothel in this area?)
(Falke) (Me too... I grew up in this area)
(Narrator_) Kalman - you've never heard of there being one. Falke - certainly not in your lifetime, or any time you've ever heard about.
(Kalman) Spirits?
* Edmon nods sadly
(Kalman) . o O (This guy may as well be a spirit, the way he talks :o)
* Edmon 's expression darkens.
(Edmon) They torment me day and night, letting me rest nowise.
(Edmon) Mayhap ye can aid me?
* Edmon seems to brighten at the thought
(Kalman) How long have you lived here?
* Edmon thinks about it for a while
* Kalman asks, curious
(Boden) wait...why did it stay vacant if you were here?
(Edmon) What year ist now?
(Kalman) *Blah*
(Narrator_) (2196 ;)
(Edmon) Ah...
(Edmon) Hast been so long?
* Edmon looks dejected
(Falke) ...
(Kalman) pardon?
(Falke) What year were you thinking it might be?
(Edmon) I passed from my life in the tenth year of the reign of the Empress Celesse, first of that name. Mayhap there hath been another since then?
* Edmon says curiously
(Boden) ummm, I'm not up on my my Empress's...how long was that.
* Boden looks to Kalman for the answer.
(Narrator_) Kalman: that would be Empress Celesse Dizon. After a quick calculation, you determine that the tenth year of her reign would have been in the 1280s or so. More than 900 years ago, in fact.
(Kalman) ...
(Kalman) That was over 900 years ago
(Edmon) Aye.
* Kalman says slowly
(Boden) oh.
* Edmon seems unhappy again.
(Kalman) are you a spirit as well, then?
* Boden reaches out and lightly pokes the boy in a non threatening manner.
* Kalman asks cautiously?
(Narrator_) He is quite solid, and lets you touch him gently.
(Boden) nope Kalman, he's solid
(Edmon) Of a sort, methinks.
* Pavo blinks.
(Kalman) (damn it we need Loch!)
(Kalman) what do you mean?
(Edmon) This base lad will be unharmed, when I release him ere long.
(Belden) (what do I think he might be?)
(Kalman) ahh
(Belden) (Can I make some kind of appropriate knowledge roll?)
(Narrator_) (I'll roll)
* Falke is feeling seriously spooked but also quite curious.
(Narrator_) (Belden - you've heard stories about ghosts. You aren't sure if they are real or not, but if they are, one of the things they might be able to do is take over mortal bodies for a duration)
* Falke makes a quick religious sign (like the sign of the cross, you know, to ward away spirits... ;^D)
(Falke) (Just out of reflex)
* Belden is a bit taken aback at the whole possession thing...
(Narrator_) (Sign of the wheel :)
(Kalman) What is it that you want, then?
* Kalman is sounding cautious, but glances at Belden, since she is the religious expert
(Edmon) The sprites... the *other* spirits, gone.
(Belden) Are they.. malevolent spirits, then?
(Kalman) . o O (I thought that people were supposed to go back into the cycle when they died.... not stick around for 900 years....)
* Boden pokes his head into the house curiousely.
(Falke) . o O (Or are you the malevolent one...?)
(Kalman) what do they do?
(Boden) You want I should take a look around guys?
* Boden seems rather un-upset by this whole ghost thing.
(Kalman) I mean... why do you want them gone?
(Edmon) They are filthy creatures.
* Edmon says simply
(Belden) Hmm...
(Belden) I will see what I can detect.
* Belden will begin to cast Detect Evil.
(Falke) I'll come in with you, Belden, if you're going in.
(Narrator_) (okay)
(Kalman) (sense Motive on this bit.... does he mean that or is he being tricksy?)
(Narrator_) Belden, you don't detect any evil in the area.
* Kalman watches Belden, but asks Edmon
(Belden) I sense no evil...
(Kalman) How is it that you are stil.... here at all?
* Edmon sighs heavily
(Edmon) Afore, I was a poet. Peradventure ye have heard of me?
* Edmon asks hopefully
(Kalman) (have we?)
(Edmon) (No, none of you have)
(Falke) (Mot the book of poetry my sister gave me, I hope?  ;^D)
* Loch_away is now known as Loch
* Kalman shakes his head
(Narrator_) (Not that you know of ;)
(Kalman) sorry, no...
* Kalman wonders if this guy really is a spirit
* Edmon sighs heavily again.
(Pavo) (Anything from studying the arts at the Castalia?)
(Edmon) Aye, so I feared.
(Narrator_) (Nope, not that rings a bell)
(Pavo) Can you recite something? That might job memories as well as a name?
(Edmon) My fame has fled, these many ages...
* Edmon stands, upon being asked to recite ;)
(Kalman) It has been along time...
* Edmon assumes a dramatic posture
(Edmon) "Although the gods were bent,
(Edmon) With greedy mind to slay,
(Edmon) My corpse with cruel pangs of death,
(Edmon) And life to take away,
(Edmon) Yet should my faithful heart
(Edmon) At no time from thee fly;
(Edmon) Show love therefore for love again,
(Edmon) Or else for love I die."
* Edmon stands down again
(Edmon) 'Tis fine, do ye not think?
* Kalman nods
* Edmon looks at you eagerly
(Belden) It's very good.
* Kalman wonders if he write that before or after he was dead ;)
* Falke nods.
(Edmon) Grammery, good sirs, I am honoured by your praise.
* Edmon looks quite happy
(Kalman) ...when did you write that?
(Edmon) It was on the occasion of my love's departure.
(Kalman) ahh...
(Falke) How long do you remember being a spirit?
* Falke asks curiously. This is out of his depth...
(Edmon) Many, many ages.
* Kalman is too much a romantic ;)
* Belden steps closer to the house.
* Falke follows Belden.
(Kalman) ...
(Edmon) You shall help me, then?
* Edmon says hopefully
(Belden) Well, I don't sense any evil, ser...
(Kalman) Well, I don't really know what we can do...
(Belden) You haven't told us what these spirits are doing that is so terrible.
* Loch ponders everything quietly
(Edmon) Ah, but they may not be evil...
(Kalman) where are they now?
(Edmon) They are simply filthy.
(Falke) Belden, if there's a large number of spirits, perhaps we'd best just report this to a temple?
(Edmon) They pass as they wish within the walls of the house.
(Edmon) I have seen no more than three.
(Belden) Filth... isn't exactly cause for obliteration...
(Boden) Are the the spirits of whores and such?
(Belden) Could you be a little more specific?
(Edmon) Nay, I do not believe so, my towering friend.
(Boden) Then why do they come to your house?
* Edmon shrugs
* Kalman glances at Loch, The Quiet One, to see what the mage-y type makes of all this
(Edmon) Why am I tormented by the gods?
* Edmon asks rhetorically
(Belden) (over her shoulder, to Falke) There are only three.
* Falke nods. He heard. ^-^
* Loch makes a few quick gestures and mumbles a few words, casting detect magic.
(Edmon) I am no arcanist, but they seem not like spirits of the dead.
(Belden) No?
(Boden) Can we please check this out guys?
* Boden seems kinda excited.
* Belden glances at Loch again.
(Narrator_) (sorry, just looking something up... sec)
(Belden) (In Boden's direction) It might be a good idea.
* Falke waits for the people who might have a sweet clue what all this might be about.
(Narrator_) (Loch - you detect magic, of moderate strength, coming from this young man)
(Boden) (Is there much light getting into the house? How well lit is it?)
* Belden will step inside the doorframe
(but no further).
(Narrator_) The house is very dusty, and the windows are coated with grime. Probably not very well-lit.
(Narrator_) The door hangs loosely from its hinges. The entryway is covered with a thick layer of dust.
(Loch) (can I get anything more?)
* Belden peers inside.
(Kalman) (Do I think this guy is actually telling the truth about all of this?)
* Boden will see Belden go into the house and slip in past her and start carefully looking around.
(Narrator_) (It's a generalized aura, not a specific item, Loch)
* Falke also goes in.
(Belden) don't go too far...
(Boden) ok.
(Narrator_) (Kalman -that's up to you, I guess)
* Belden will begin to cast Detect Undead.
* Kalman glances in to where his squadmates are
(Narrator_) Inside, the dust is even thicker. Every step you take stirs up a cloud that obscures your vision and makes you hack and cough.
(Falke) I don't suppose my weapons would actually be any good, if we do start fighting with ghosts...
(Belden) (I'm just standing in the doorway)
(Kalman) (Fair enough... no sense motive-y help, then? ;)\
(Boden) (do we carry anything like a couple of torches or something?)
(Loch) Hmm... our friend here does have a magical aura to him.
* Falke observes, perhaps a bit late.
(Narrator_) (He seems weird, not malicious, Kalman)
(Kalman) what does that mean?
* Kalman asks Loch
(Loch) His tale could be true
(Kalman) ('k)
* Kalman nods
* Falke pulls out his morningstar and dagger, just in case.
(Narrator_) (Who is inside the house now?)
* Boden will try and open a window carefully.....
(Falke) (me)
(Belden) (I'm in the doorway, casting DE)
(Loch) I know only a small bit about ghosts, but there abilities vary. One of them is possessing people for short periods
* Pavo will follow inside.
(Boden) (I am, and I asked if we carry anything like torches or candles.)
(Pavo) (unless I'm blocked by Belden?)
(Belden) (I'm in the middle of casting, so I'm not going anywhere)
(Falke) I don't have any, Boden.
(Kalman) And that would give him a magical aura?
(Narrator_) (Boden - you carry Loch, who can cast light. You probably also have a torch for backup, but it's not *that
* dark in the house. It's like being in a house during daytime where the windows are really dirty, not like being in complete darkness)
(Kalman) (I probably have a torch, possibly a sunrod, 'cause alchemy is cool, right? )
(Narrator_) (Kalman - that would be fine, yes)
(Loch) That or some other enchantement I am not familiar with. Either way, he is more than he appears
* Kalman nods
(Loch) I say we join the others and check this out, at least for curiosity sake.
(Kalman) alright
(Narrator_) (Belden - you detect the aura of an undead creature, coming from Edmon. It is of moderate strength, you would say)
* Kalman waits for Belden to finish her spell
* Boden will try and carefully open some windows to get some air in the house.
* Belden looks back to Kalman and Loch.
(Belden) The only restless spirit I sense is him...
(Belden) So I'm not sure what we might be dealing with, here.
(Narrator_) Boden - some of the windows just don't open. Could be stuck.
(Kalman) well... We may as well look around
* Belden nods.
* Kalman turns back to Edmon
(Narrator_) You can get a few open, though.
(Kalman) I don't know if we'll be able to do anything though even if we do find them...
(Boden) at least we can breath a bit now.
(Falke) So... did anyone actually read their contract when they signed on to the guard, and did it mention anything about protecting the property of dead people?
* Falke asks lightly.
* Kalman will proceed into the house, cautiously
* Belden will go with Kalman, and presumably Loch.
(Edmon) All that matters is that ye try, good sirs, and I will be grateful.
(Kalman) it didn't but... I'm curious
* Loch follows Kalman in
(Loch) Same
* Falke also looks around.
(Kalman) Can you tell us anything more about them?
(Narrator_) It does not look like the dust here has been disturbed in many years.
* Edmon follows you in.
* Loch digs Willam out and sets him on his shoulder
(Belden) It's our duty to investigate something that could potentially be dangerous to the citizenry.
(Edmon) The fiends are cautious...
(Edmon) Be on your guard, they will strive to surprise ye, and they spread their filth wherere they go.
(Falke) . o O (Or you're trapping us...)
* Edmon kicks some of the dust aside.
(Belden) What sort of filth, exactly?
(Pavo) You'd think that curious children or squatters would have wandered in here from time to time.
(Belden) Dirt?
(Edmon) Why, what ye tread in.
(Loch) Like our friend here
(Belden) Ah-ha...
* Belden unclips her morningstar.
(Edmon) I shall not put this lad into danger...
* Belden looks around, paying special attention to particularly dusty and cobwebby corners.
* Edmon gestures to himself
(Kalman) they made all this dust?
* Pavo untucks his shirt...
(Edmon) ...but shall await ye wheresoever ye wish, as long as I may.
* Boden will continue to look around, a little more excited than some might think prudent.
* Edmon nods to Kalman
(Kalman) ....
(Loch) Outside would be good.
(Kalman) how long have *they* been here?
(Narrator_) A crumbling stone staircase curves up from the entry hall.
(Falke) Upstairs, then?
(Belden) And can they actually be *seen*?
(Falke) Who wants to come with me?
(Boden) I do!
(Edmon) I am uncertain... a score of years, mayhaps?
(Boden) is there a basement as well?
* Falke wonders if sweeping the place out with a broom might be all the spirit requires but decides not to mention it. ^-^
(Boden) or just the upstairs.
(Edmon) *I* can see them..
(Falke) What do they look like?
(Belden) How do they appear, to you?
(Edmon) Nay, no cellar.
(Pavo) PErhaps we should all find a cloth for our mouths.
(Falke) . o O (If he describes spiders or rats, I'll kick myself...)
(Pavo) Should they kick this dust up into the air, it might suffocate us or something.
(Boden) good idea Pavo.
(Edmon) They are of the height of a child, shrouded in dark and dust.
(Kalman) (Is there actually enough of it around for that?)
(Belden) (I'm sure most of us have a handkerchief or something)
* Boden will take the cloth he keeps for wipeing his sword off (its clean) and wrap it around his face.
(Pavo) (Yeah, makes sense, it's not as if we have kleenex)
(Narrator_) (Well, it *is* pretty thick)
* Pavo will keep a kerchief handy.
(Boden) (w)kobolds
* Belden will tie a cloth around her face.
(Falke) (I thought you'd say that, Rob... ;^D)
(Falke) Let's go, then, Boden.
(Loch) . o O (of course Boden would say that)
* Kalman will do so as well
* Falke heads towards the stairs.
(Kalman) . o O ( #%^#& )
(Edmon) I will await your return, kind sirs!
* Falke ties a cloth around his face at the foot of them.
* Boden will head up the stairs after Falke.
* Loch will hold a cloth over his mouth with his free hand
* Edmon will step back towards the door.
(Kalman) . o O ( #%^#& Kobolds... :p)
* Loch follows Kalman
* Belden will stick with Loch and Kalman for the moment.
(Pavo) (Sense motive the bastard again :D)
(Kalman) How solid is the upstairs?
* Kalman calls out after Falke and Boden are up there
* Kalman thinks the two of them may be heavy enough ;)
(Falke) I'm checking it out right now!
(Belden) Well, if it's solid enough for Boden...
* Belden winks at Kalman.
(Falke) Boden, stay on the stairs a moment, will you?
* Falke tests the floor... it's wood I assume?
(Boden) ok.
* Boden waits
(Narrator_) The house is built of stone, it's quite solid.
* Kalman looks around the downstairs... not leaving this room, but looking out any other exits
(Falke) Seems fine.
(Narrator_) It just looks crumbly ;)
* Falke calls down.
(Boden) Its all stone.
(Falke) Yup.
(Boden) We should all be able to go up.
(Kalman) (fair enough. I'm no architect ;)
(Belden) (Are there any other rooms downstairs besides where we are now?)
(Kalman) alright...
(Narrator_) There are a few other mostly empty rooms. One has the remains of a harpsichord in it, though. Very dusty, everywhere.
* Pavo will follow the two...
(Falke) (and what does the upstairs look like? A hall with rooms branching off?)
(Kalman) Alright.... Did we want to go up right away? Or should some of us check things out down here?
(Narrator_) Pretty much. It's a fairly wide hall.
(Belden) I think it would be wiser to clear this level before going up...
(Falke) Let's start searching at this end and then work our way along?
* Kalman glances at the poor dilapitated harpsichord ;)
* Falke suggests to Boden.
(Narrator_) It used to be red, Kalman ;)
* Pavo stops on the stairs at Belden's suggestion.
(Narrator_) Now it looks like someone jumped on it.
* Kalman winces
* Belden waits for a consensus.
(Kalman) well, lets take a quick look around, then
* Belden nods.
(Pavo) Might as well suffocate nearer to the ground, if need be :)
* Kalman says to Belden and Loch, since Pavo and Boden and Falke are all up
* Boden will nod to Falke and strat checking rooms upstairs.
(Pavo) (Does everyone have a cloth?)
* Falke and Boden check rooms in tandem.
(Falke) (Yup)
(Narrator_) THere are a few other things remaining downstairs - a couple of broken chairs, a rug somewhere under an inch of grime.
(Narrator_) So, Falke and Boden are upstairs, everyone else is downstairs?
(Belden) (I will cast Detect Magic)
(Belden) (yes)
(Falke) (And Pavo is somewhere in between... ^-^)
* Kalman will look around for any place these things could be hiding, in theory
(Narrator_) At the top of the stairs, light shines faintly through a window coated thickly with grime and dust. It might be stained glass, but it's hard to tell anymore.
(Narrator_) The light upstairs is practically grey from the dust that lies everywhere. Even the high ceilings are coated with thick grime.
(Falke) It's a fixer-upper.
(Boden) yep
(Narrator_) (Belden - magic, moderate, from upstairs)
(Belden) Guys, there's something upstairs.
(Kalman) maybe we should get up there, then...
(Belden) I think so, actually... I'm not getting anything down here.
* Loch will start to try and catch up with the upstairs pair
* Kalman will turnback that way
(Narrator_) Boden and Falke, you hear some faint rustling or whispering noise from down the hall somewhere.
* Belden will follow her magicy sense
(Boden) ooohhhh
(Boden) (w)its down the hall.
* Boden points
* Falke nods.
* Boden will sneak down the hall quietly.
* Falke 's weapons are already out, have been since he entered the building.
(Boden) (I actually have the skill...)
(Narrator_) Boden - you see, briefly, a dark shadow, perhaps about four feet tall, out of the corner of your eye. It darts into one of the rooms and out of sight. It looked like it had wings, you think.
(Boden) oh oh oh.
* Falke goes with Boden. I can move silently too. ^-^
(Boden) (w)flying kobolds.
(Boden) (do I think it saw me?)
(Narrator_) (You don't know)
* Falke gives Boden a sceptical glance, but since he's never seen a kobold, he doesn't know what they look like.
* Boden will sneak over to the room its in.
* Falke goes with Boden.
(Narrator_) The door to that room is slightly askew and ajar.
* Boden will sneakily glance inside.
* Falke lifts his foot as if to kick in the door, but doesn't - he 's asking Boden if they ought to.
* Pavo is probably right behind Falke then?
(Narrator_) It looks to have been twisted off its hinges at some point
(Kalman) (can we see them sneaking around ahead?)
(Narrator_) Who? Boden and Falke?
(Belden) (yeah)
(Kalman) (yeah)
(Narrator_) If you're upstairs now, then yes.
(Boden) (can I see inside the room?)
(Belden) (we came upstairs, following my detect magic )
* Pavo keeps an eye out on the other walls and doors. (The 'boy' said they could pass into any room of the house, right? Or implied going through walls?)
(Narrator_) Boden - you can see a bit into the room, yes. It's fairly dark, not really clear what's inside though.
(Belden) (He said they pass as they wish *within* the walls of the house...)
(Narrator_) It's even more dusty here, if possible.
(Pavo) (Ok)
(Narrator_) All of you see a faint movement in the dust which lies ankle-deep on the floor, as if a small breeze was blowing from somewhere.
(Boden) (can I tell if there is a window in this room?
* Kalman will sneak up to meet them, if they are being sneaky
(Narrator_) (No, you can't tell)
(Narrator_) (Maybe - it's not pitch black in there)
* Pavo pulls out his kerchief, and wishes he had eye coverings.
* Pavo slobbers the cloth a bit, incase the dust is extra fine.
(Pavo) (or wait)
(Pavo) (CAnteen :D)
* Boden will ease the door open slowly and look inside.
(Narrator_) Boden - there is a creature in the corner of the room, wispy-looking, dark, and imp-like. It is surrounded by a roiling cloud of dust, which makes its exact features difficult to see.
* Loch follows Kalman prowling
* Kalman will put a hand on his sword
(Narrator_) The rest of you are behind Boden, so you can't see it very well yet ;)
* Falke keeps watching Boden for his cue, unless he can see in around Boden's bulk.
(Falke) (As I suspected. ^-^)
* Kalman wonders what the range on Belden's detect Evil spell was....
* Boden will enter the room....
(Belden) (so do I :o)
(Belden) (These look like the kind of thing that ought to have shown up)
* Boden will try and use his animal empathy to keep it calm.
(Narrator_) (Okay.. sec, then)
(Belden) (I guess I didn't specify how long I was maintaining the spell; maybe that's whY)
(Narrator_) (You're not detecting any evil)
* Falke glides in after Boden.
(Narrator_) Boden, you're approaching it?
(Pavo) What about the ring?
(Belden) (w, to Loch and Kalman) Shouldn't we at least try to communicate with them? They aren't *evil*...
(Belden) (w, to Loch and Kalman) Shouldn't we at least try to communicate with them? They aren't *evil*...
(Boden) (well...I'm gaguing its reaction to me...)
(Narrator_) (It's just standing there, at the moment)
(Boden) (if it seems like it isn't going to attack then yes...I will approach.)
(Kalman) (w) That's what I was thinking... Or, maybe we could trap them somehow?
(Loch) (w) assuming it can understand us, it would be a good idea.
* Belden nods.
* Falke glances back towards the door, are the others there?
* Pavo is right behind.
* Belden will creep in a bit.
(Belden) (q) Try to communicate with it
(Falke) (w) Okay...
(Belden) (Can I get a better look at it now? Not that I think I have any chance of knowing what it is)
* Boden will slowly approach, I'm still making small noises and such too it, like when you are approaching an animal that you don't want to upset.
(Falke) (w) Boden, you heard Belden?
(Boden) (w)ok.
(Falke) (We're all whispering... so he might not have)
(Boden) Um...hi.
(Belden) (I wasn't)
(Narrator_) (Well, you can get a better look at it, sort of. It's surrounded by whirling dust, is black and winged, and about 4 feet tall)
(Boden) can you understand us.
(Belden) (just not being loud)
(Belden) (just not being loud)
(Falke) (right, n/m)
(Boden) (for the record, I still haven't drawn a sword.)
* Belden has her weapon unclipped, but not drawn or held up
* Falke has lowered his weapons to his side so it won't feel immediately threatened
* Creature opens what passes for a mouth
* Falke keeps his distance as well.
(Falke) (to keep it from feeling threatened, hopefully)
* Pavo holds up his cloth.
(Narrator_) A dark burst of thick dust flies at all of you. It itches and burns your exposed skin.
* Narrator_ will make a few rolls now ;)
* Pavo closes his eyes and steps back...
* Falke rubs at his face with an upper arm. You try to do something a favour... ;^)
* Belden throws an arm up over her eyes.
* Kalman will step back
(Belden) Well...
* Loch grunts
* Pavo will use his wet cloth to wipe the dust from his face...
(Narrator_) Boden, Belden, and Falke - you manage to avoid the worst of the blast. Belden and Boden take 2 points of damage each from the acidic dust, though.
(Narrator_) (Just wait, dudes - I'm rolling stuff here)
(Falke) ('k)
(Narrator_) Similarly, Pavo is out of the way of most of it. He takes 1 point only.
(Pavo) (Julie, you said Boden twice, was I one of them?)
(Narrator_) (No.)
(Pavo) (ok :D)
(Narrator_) (That was all for the first group of people, those who made their saves ;)
(Kalman) (d'oh...)
(Belden) That rules out negotiations...
(Falke) Yup.
(Narrator_) Kalman and Loch, you take the worst of it. You take 3 points of damage each, and you are at -4 AC and -2 attack due to itching, until I let you know otherwise ;)
(Kalman) (yay :p)
(Narrator_) (Shall I roll initiative, then?)
(Falke) (I think so)
(Belden) (yup)
(Narrator_) (sec, then)
(Belden) (MALE ITCH)
(Loch) grrr
(Kalman) gah!
(Falke) (lol)
(Pavo) (The dust billowed around him, smacking you :D)
(Boden) (actually it was a breath weapon of sorts...)
* Kalman will try not to let himself be distracted, since we were told there were more of these things around
(Narrator_) (Okay. Order for the combat will be Falke, Loch, Kalman, Boden, Pavo, Belden. With the creature going somewhere in there too, but I won't tell you when ;)
(Narrator_) So, Falke - go ahead.
* Falke raises his weapons and moves in to strike with the morningstar then.
(Narrator_) (So, are you going to be attacking with both weapons?)
(Falke) (No, just the morningstar for now)
(Narrator_) (Okay)
(Narrator_) Falke - you swing at it. You thought you hit, but it didn't seem to make contact somehow.
(Narrator_) Loch?
(Falke) (ok)
(Loch) (Magic missile)
(Narrator_) ('k)
(Narrator_) (Okay - a bolt of light flies from Loch's hand and strikes the creature, which recoils)
(Narrator_) Suddenly, two similar creatures drop down on you from near the high ceiling. They can fly, it would seem.
(Belden) (OK, so they don't like magic, but seem ok with physical attacks :o)
(Kalman) (Are we all in the room?)
(Narrator_) (I was assuming so)
* Creature2 attacks Pavo, swinging its little claws at him. It misses, though.
(Kalman) (alright, I hadn't realized we had all gone into the room yet, but that works :)
(Narrator_) THe room is plenty big enough for all of you to be in there.
* Creature3 attacks Loch, hitting him for 1 point of damage.
* Creature attacks Boden, since he's closest.
* Creature misses, though.
(Narrator_) Kalman, your turn.
* Kalman will draw his sword, and if I can do so, will atack whichever one is nearest to me, as best I can with the stupid itching ;)
(Narrator_) ('k)
(Narrator_) Kalman, you swing at Creature2, but miss.
(Narrator_) Boden.
* Boden will try and grapple creature.
(Boden) (as a pin maneuver.)
(Creature) Boden - you try and get a grip on it, but it flies up above your head. You don't get a hold on it- it's not very substantial.
(Creature) Pavo.
* Boden will say then..."Its barely there."
(Narrator_) Pavo.
(Pavo) (Sorry)
(Narrator_) Well, do something.
(Narrator_) Or else we'll go on.
* Pavo will take the canteen he has ready, and pop the top. *intends to put his thumb over the tip
(Pavo) (I'm typing!@)
* Pavo squeezes to spray at a dust thing.
(Narrator_) Okay, you spray water at the thing attacking you.
(Pavo) (Worth a shot :D)
(Narrator_) Belden.
(Belden) Boden!
(Belden) I'm going to enchant your weapon; it may help.
(Belden) Just hold on until I'm done.
* Belden lays her hands on the hilt of his sword and starts to cast.
(Narrator_) (OKay.)
(Narrator_) Falke -your turn
(Falke) (are any close enough for me to hit with my morningstar still?)
(Falke) (Or did it fly up out of reach wehen boden tried to grab?)
(Narrator_) They're all flying, but two are in melee - you could get to either of those.
(Falke) (Ok, I'll swing my morningstar at the closest, then throw my dagger at a flying one...?)
(Falke) (This is my plan, then)
(Narrator_) Falke - you miss the one you swing at with your morningstar. THe dagger, however, seemed to hit.
(Falke) (yay!)
(Narrator_) Loch, your turn.
(Loch) Combat cast a magic missile into the beasty in front of me
(Narrator_) 'k
(Narrator_) *zot*
* Creature3 swings back at Loch, and hits him. 2 points of damage.
* Creature2 continues to attack Pavo. It misses again, though. It hisses angrily.
(Pavo) (Angrier than any of the others? o_O)
(Narrator_) How should you know? THey're swirling clouds of dust - they all look angry to you.
* Creature breathes another cloud of dust down onto people.
(Pavo) (That's why I asked...)
(Belden) urk
(Kalman) (damnit ):|)
(Narrator_) (sec)
(Narrator_) This time, Boden and Belden were most in the way - they each take 4, while Kalman, Loch, and Pavo all take 1 each. Belden, you are now very itchy as well (-4 to AC, -2 to attack)
(Narrator_) Okay, it's Kalman's turn now.
(Kalman) (Is there still a creature not in melee combat/)
(Narrator_) (Yes, one flying, that just sprayed you with more dust)
(Kalman) (and could I draw and fire my bow this round, or just draw it?)
(Narrator_) As long as you're not moving, you can draw and fire.
(Kalman) (I will do so, then, at the flying one)
(Narrator_) 'k
(Narrator_) You hit it. THis is a crossbow, right?
(Narrator_) Right?
(Kalman) (yup, light)
(Narrator_) Okay.
(Narrator_) Loch, your turn.
(Boden) (what about me?)
(Narrator_) (Oops, my bad. Boden.)
(Narrator_) (silly narrator)
(Narrator_) Boden, then.
* Boden will draw his sword and *flank* the creature attacking Loch, then hit it using two hands on the sword.
(Narrator_) okay
(Narrator_) Boden - you swing and hit.
(Narrator_) How much damage is your sword doing now?
(Belden) (+1)
(Boden) (my sword is now magic and +1 so I do a total of +8 dmg)
(Narrator_) ('k)
(Narrator_) You smash the thing quite nicely. Dust goes flying.
(Falke) (woo-hoo!)
* Creature3 , who just got smashed, turns and breathes at Boden, right in his face. He takes 2 damage and now is at all the same penalties as above.
* Creature2 makes another attempt to hit Pavo and fails. It is disgruntled.
* Creature , flying around the ceiling area, swoops down to claw Falke, and hits him for 2. It is in melee with him now.
(Falke) (ok)
(Narrator_) Kalman's turn.
(Kalman) (they are all in melee now?)
(Narrator_) Yes.
(Kalman) (back to the sword, then.... if there are any I can hit. i'm willing to just drop the bow)
(Narrator_) Okay.
(Kalman) (or toss it out of the way, anyway ;)
(Kalman) (can i move?)
(Narrator_) you can take a 5 foot step.
(Narrator_) More, and you won't be able to draw and attack.
(Kalman) would that let me be flanking any of them?
(Narrator_) You could get close enoguh to the one attacking Pavo.
(Kalman) (if not, I'll just try and get somewhere I can attack one and not worry about that)
(Kalman) (well, flaking means sneak attack, which is keen, so I'll do that if I can)
(Narrator_) (Okay)
(Narrator_) You thought you hit it, but somehow you missed. Damn.
(Kalman) (indeed)
(Narrator_) Boden.
(Falke) (damn those mephits... ):^( )
(Boden) (again? so quick?)
(Pavo) (Hvave I been missed?)
(Belden) (K... did I miss my action?)
(Pavo) (Me and Belden were skipped)
(Narrator_) (oh. Oops. I need to organize my initiatives more clearly, just a sec, then. We'll go to Pavo and Belden now.)
(Narrator_) Pavo.
* Pavo isn't sure he has any other option than but to attack with his sickles.
(Narrator_) Okay.
(Narrator_) You swing, and again, you think you hit it, but it didn't seem to have any effect.
(Narrator_) Belden.
(Belden) (OK, I have no real spells left, so... which of these am I close enough to attack?)
(Narrator_) The one attacking Falke is closest to you.
* Belden will make a probably futile attempt to hit it with the morningstar.
(Boden) (what about the one that was attacking him?)
(Belden) (flank)
(Narrator_) (him who?)
(Boden) (sorry, my bad...ignore me.)
(Narrator_) You swing, and miraculously, you connect with it.
(Belden) (O_o)
(Falke) (woo-hoo!)
(Narrator_) *clunk*
(Belden) (rock out)
(Narrator_) Okay, now we'll got to Boden.
(Loch) (Dont Falke and I go before Boden?)
(Falke) (He held his initiative once)
(Narrator_) (Yes, but I screwed up initiative last time, and now I'm trying to fix it)
(Loch) (k)
* Boden will continue to attack the creature that he and Loch are flanking. two-handed, single attack.
(Narrator_) Okay
(Narrator_) You swing and miss.
(Boden) (crap.)
(Narrator_) Okay, now it will be Pavo again, then Belden again, and we'll be back to normal initiative.
(Narrator_) So, Pavo.
(Pavo) (Can I take off my cloak and put it on the little thing somehow? )
(Narrator_) Uh... if you want to try, sure.
(Narrator_) You take off your cloak and fling it over the thing as best as you can. It sort of hangs off it, now.
(Narrator_) Belden.
(Kalman) . o O (stylish ;p)
(Belden) (I will try to attack again, for what it's worth)
(Belden) (Flank)
(Narrator_) Okay.
(Narrator_) You swing and miss.
(Belden) (poop)
(Narrator_) Now, back to the start of Init, and I'll do it right this time ;)
(Narrator_) Falke.
* Falke will do the double attack thing: morningstar then dagger
(Falke) (On the one inf ront of me)
(Narrator_) Both on the same thing?
(Narrator_) 'k
(Falke) (Yes)
(Falke) (I might hit Loch or Boden if I tried to throw at the other. And I'm not throwing, btw. Just stabbing)
(Narrator_) (Crit. threat with the morningstar... just thought you'd like to know ;)
(Falke) (That's something good? )
(Narrator_) (You hit it with the morningstar, but not with the dagger)
(Falke) (ok)
(Narrator_) Loch.
(Loch) (combat cast magic missile again at the little thing in front of me)
(Narrator_) *zot*
* Creature3 swings at Loch, but misses.
* Creature2 swings at Pavo, wearing its stylish new cloak, and finally manages to hit him... for 1. :p
* Creature attacks Falke, and hits with its claws, raking across his shoulder for 3 points.
(Falke) (ow)_
(Narrator_) Kalman.
* Kalman will continue to flank the thing and try and hit it again, hopefully with better luck :)
(Narrator_) A swing and a miss.
(Kalman) ):|
(Narrator_) Boden.
* Boden continuse to attack this same one. (how hurt does it look?)
(Narrator_) (Hard to tell - it's made of dust ;)
(Narrator_) Boden, you swing and hit it, hard. *puff* It seems to collapse into a big pile of dust. *cough*
(Belden) (one down)
(Narrator_) Pavo, your turn.
* Pavo will slash with his sickles at the creature attacking Falke, if it is in reach.
(Pavo) (if not, Mr. Style)
(Narrator_) It's not in reach unless you leave melee, in which case mr. style gets a free attack on you.
(Pavo) (Mr. STyle it is)
(Narrator_) A swing and a miss.
(Narrator_) Belden.
(Belden) (I flank the one on Falke again)
(Narrator_) Okay.
(Belden) (swing away :/)
(Narrator_) You swing and hit it again. Belden is a smacking machine, considering she's itching like Rita McNeil on a hot day ;)
(Pavo) (ewww)
(Kalman) (eww?)
(Falke) (Poor Rita...)
(Belden) (sweet! ... um, not the Rita part.)
(Belden) (OX POWER! :D)
(Narrator_) Okay. Back to Falke.
* Falke does another double attack on the one in front of him
(Narrator_) Okay
(Falke) (It seemed to work last time... ^-^)
(Narrator_) You hit with the morningstar again, but not with the dagger.
(Falke) ('k)
(Narrator_) Loch.
(Loch) Magic missile on the one Belden has flanked
(Narrator_) You zot it. It collapses in a puff of dust.
(Narrator_) The last one remaining looks pretty pissed, as far as any of you can tell.
* Creature2 will continue to try and attack Pavo. It breathes on him for 4 points of damage, and if he wasn't itchy before, he sure as hell is now.
(Pavo) Bitch!
(Narrator_) Kalman's turn.
* Kalman will move to flank the remaining one if I can, and the try and hit the fucker >:|
(Narrator_) You swing and hit it.
(Falke) (woo-hoo!)
(Narrator_) Boden.
(Narrator_) Boden.
(Boden) (Is there still some flanking room on this last guy?)
(Kalman) (yay! finally! ;)
(Narrator_) (sure, why not...)
(Narrator_) You swing and hit it. It makes a pained hissing sound.
* Boden will flank it and attack two-handed. (BTW do you round up or down for the x1.5 str damage?)
(Narrator_) Pavo.
(Narrator_) (Up, I believe)
* Pavo attacks again....
(Belden) (So it *would* be worth my while to attack 2 handed then?)
(Narrator_) Pavo hits with one of his sickles.
(Narrator_) Belden's turn.
(Belden) (Any room left now?)
(Narrator_) Ah, why not? I'm generous ;)
(Belden) (I will swing two-handed at the last guy. Flank if I can.)
(Narrator_) A swing and a miss, sadly.
(Narrator_) Falke.
(Kalman) (I don't know how you could *not* flank, at this point ;)
(Belden) (I'm batting .5... not too shabby for a -1 penalty)
(Falke) (I'll flank if there's room)
(Falke) (and double-attack)
(Falke) (If not, what chance is there of hitting a guard if I throw my last dagger?)
(Narrator_) Two swings, two misses, though you could have sworn one of them hit.
* Falke frowns.
(Narrator_) Loch.
(Loch) Magic Missile
(Narrator_) ('k)
(Narrator_) (zot)
* Creature2 breathes on Falke, Kalman, and Loch. Each takes 2. Boden, Belden, and Pavo each take 1, from backspray of dust ;)
(Falke) ('k)
(Narrator_) Kalman's turn.
(Kalman) (flank hit grr!)
(Narrator_) A miss.
(Narrator_) Boden.
(Kalman) (of course :p)
(Kalman) Damnit.
* Boden will use a two-handed strike, and power attack for +1 making it a damage bonus of +10
(Narrator_) (omg. Crit threat... rolling)
(Kalman) (YAY!)
(Narrator_) (sorry, not a crit. But a hit, at least ;)
(Falke) (dare we hope?)
(Narrator_) Still, you hit it and with a puff of dust Pavo's cloak is all that remains.
(Boden) (thats still 11 to 18 points of damage.)
(Falke) Well, those were nasty pieces of work.
* Falke wipes his brow.
(Boden) wow.
(Boden) that was neat.
* Kalman stands up
* Boden looks impressed
(Loch) The ghost said three, right?
(Narrator_) The room is still.
(Boden) what were those things?
(Belden) Good job, everyone!
* Kalman wipes at his face
(Kalman) ...yes.
* Belden will cast detect Magic again, just in case.
(Falke) Yes indeed.
(Narrator_) Belden - moderate magic, coming from a corner of the room.
* Kalman will pour the contents of his canteen over his face, hoping that will take away the itching..... assuming we are still all itchy, yes?
(Belden) Hold on...
(Falke) (yay, treasure!)
(Kalman) what?
* Belden goes to investigate the magic source.
* Kalman looks over
* Boden will stay alert, in case there is more.
* Falke watches Belden, rubbing at his face.
* Pavo sighs and picks up his cloak
(Belden) I sense some magical energy, still in the room...
* Loch will follow Belden, another spell ready on his lips
(Narrator_) You are certainly still itchy, but it feels like it's going away.
(Kalman) (Does the water help any?)
* Pavo rubs his skin down with the damp kerchief.
(Narrator_) It's getting better.
(Narrator_) Now you're just very dirty ;)
(Kalman) (yay :p)
(Narrator_) Belden:
(Narrator_) Beneath the layer of dust, you find a grimy panel in the floor.
(Belden) something under here...
* Kalman watches belden
* Belden will try to pry it up, using her fingertips, or a dagger.
(Narrator_) It slides aside grudgingly.
* Boden will oogle is magic sword.
* Kalman goes over
(Narrator_) Inside is a secret compartment.
* Kalman will crouch down beside her
(Belden) (and inside that is..? :D)
(Narrator_) Within, you can see several rotting leather bags, one with silver coins spilling out of it. You can see a few other things in there as well, though it's dark.
* Falke wanders over as well.
* Falke peers over her shoulder.
* Belden will reach around and pull everything out.
* Falke sighs... it's the last he'll see of any of that.
(Narrator_) Pulling the items out, one of the fragile sacks breaks, spilling coins everywhere.
(Kalman) hmm
(Narrator_) You also pull out a small laquered box.
* Belden reaches (mentally) for the magical signature.
(Narrator_) Finally, near the back of the compartment, you find a scabbard containing a dagger. That's the magic thing.
(Belden) Oh, shoot, the bag broke...
* Falke will pick up coins. If I can palm some I will but I'll give most to Belden... ^-^
(Narrator_) I'm sure you can palm some ;)
* Belden sets the things down on the dusty floor and begins picking up the coins from inside the compartment.
* Loch will take the time to check on poor little Willam
(Falke) (How many? I have to split them with my fellow not-so-scrupulous guards)
* Kalman will help as well, but without stealing anything. i have a longer reach than Belden ;)
(Narrator_) (It's not a lot - most of this is in silver)
(Narrator_) (I mean, you can get a fair number of coins, but it's not worth a ton, compared to the several other, unbroken bags :)
(Falke) (Ah well, better than none. I'll split it evenly with the others when Belden's not around some time)
* Belden will scoop everything up.
(Falke) (Yeah... Belden knows how many of those there are, though...)
(Belden) Well, that's all it was. What a relief.
(Narrator_) Okay, eventually you gather the coins up.
(Falke) (Hard to steal a whole bag from under her nose. I'm not gonna try!)
(Boden) What did you find?
(Narrator_) After collecting the coins, you would judge there is something on the order of 450 Imperials in various denominations, some dating back a couple of hundred years.
(Narrator_) Also, of course, the dagger and the box.
(Belden) There's a lot of coinage... a dagger with some sort of enchantment, and a box...
* Belden opens the box carefully.
(Falke) May I see the dagger?
(Narrator_) Inside is a small, delicate necklace of irregular pink pearls.
* Falke likes daggers...
(Kalman) I wonder what our friend Edmon thinks of all this...
(Belden) We should find out what Edmon wants done with these.
(Belden) They should go to his family, if any remain.
* Falke reminds himself not to forget his own proper dagger.
* Kalman looks over at Belden
(Falke) Right.
* Falke looks for the dagger he threw. Do I find it?
* Kalman will go over and pick up his cross-bow
(Belden) Let's go downstairs and see if he's still there.
(Narrator_) Yep, you find it.
* Kalman 's face feels like burning :(
(Narrator_) You're all feeling better from the itching now. Now just very, very dirty.
* Loch tucks Willam away and heads down the stairs
(Willam) :meep:
* Falke tucks it back into its sheath and follows the others.
* Belden will take everything downstairs.
(Belden) Edmon?
(Loch) :You ok?:
(Narrator_) You head back down the staircase.
* Belden calls.
(Willam) :yep:
(Willam) :happyhappy:
* Boden will keep with the group.
(Loch) :good:
(Kalman) (yeah, but I did take 6hp in damage from acidic dust, so I assume it still feels like burning ;)
(Narrator_) (well, yeah, there's that ;)
(Falke) (Just in case he wants them back...)
(Narrator_) Though you expected to see Edmon waiting for you, he seems to be gone.
* Kalman looks around
(Belden) ...
(Kalman) Edmon?
* Kalman says curiously
* Belden will step aside and look around.
(Narrator_) A track of footprints in the dust out the door indicate that he left running at top speed.
(Belden) (outside)
(Kalman) maybe he couldn't, ah, stay any longer?
(Belden) ... He must have let the boy go.
(Narrator_) Written in the grime on the wall in a neat, formal, old-fashioned hand, are the following words:
(Narrator_) "Departure is my chiefest pain
(Narrator_) I trust right well of return again"
(Falke) I certainly hope he did.
(Narrator_) The house, though it is now empty, somehow does not feel uninhabited. Somehow the layer of dust already seems less thick.
(Belden) Goodness... his grammar has gotten a bit rusty. :/
(Falke) Indeed...
(Belden) But now what to do with all of this... ?
(Belden) I was really hoping he could tell us who it should go to.
(Boden) I don't think that would be his stuff.
(Boden) It probably belongs to people that used this place as a whore house.
(Belden) It might be his family's, though...
(Boden) or theives den.
(Belden) That's also possible.
(Belden) I guess we'll never know.
* Belden says, sounding disappointed.
(Boden) He said he'd be back...
(Falke) Maybe the flying things like shinies.
(Boden) I wonder how much this place would cost?
(Boden) Thats true too.
(Kalman) It isn't old enough to be his... check the dates on the coins
(Boden) kobolds often hord stuff like that.
(Belden) Some of them are pretty old... I don't know if they're *that* old.
* Belden checks a couple.
(Narrator_) Dates are mostly from about 200 to 100 years ago.
(Belden) Looks like you're right, Boden.
* Boden nods.
(Loch) Since there is no apparant owner of the coin, perhapse we should split it amongst the squad, as is custom.
(Falke) ...
(Kalman) (that was me ;p)
(Falke) If we do split, may I see the dagger?
(Boden) I just figured....if thieves lived here...they would have found it.
(Belden) We should take the items to the captain, though.
(Falke) All right, let's go to the captain then.
(Kalman) That makes sense, I suppose...
(Narrator_) As you watch, an unseen finger traces a word in the dirt under the poem: "Grammercy"
(Belden) Being magical... she may think someone else can make better use of it than some raw recruits.
(Pavo) ...
(Falke) True...
(Boden) um..
(Falke) But they didn't do the work for it.
(Belden) (m) You're welcome...
* Boden points to the writing.
(Boden) is that what it says?
(Belden) We all function as part of a whole, Falke.
(Falke) Speaking of which, we ought to check the other build-
* Falke glances at the writing on the wall.
* Boden rests a friendly hand on Falke's shoulder.
(Kalman) well... Maybe you could get it identified?
* Kalman says to Loch
(Boden) Don't worry Falke, Svaboda will do us right by it.
(Falke) I might be able to...
(Belden) Let's go.
* Boden nods to Belden and heads outside.
(Loch) It would be possible
(Falke) All right. But do you think there might be mroe of those creatures in the other buildings?
(Belden) We're in no shape to tangle with more of them right now.
(Kalman) it might be easier for her to know what to do with it if we know what it does
(Boden) We could have an infestation of those things....
(Falke) We should get someone to look into that...
(Narrator_) The day is still surprisingly early, and the sun seems too bright when you come outside, after the dim light within.
(Falke) People sleep in those.
(Belden) (I'm pretty sure the guard has people who can identify items)
(Narrator_) (yep)
(Kalman) (well, whatever)
(Narrator_) (Including the big S herself ;)
(Belden) We'll tell the captain; and I'm sure everything will be checked into...
(Falke) Yes, that's all I meant.
(Kalman) (Lieutenant)
(Belden) (right... I don't know why I keep saying Captain)
(Boden) um...
* Kalman nods
* Pavo shakes the dust from his clothes and from his hair... or at least tries to.
(Kalman) Alright, then...
(Boden) do we keep patroling untill the end of our shift.
* Falke can appraise things... and use magical devices... :^/
* Kalman does the same
(Boden) or whould we report right away?
* Belden has pulled her handkerchief down around her neck.
(Kalman) 9yeah, but you can't identify magic items ;)
(Falke) (true...)
(Narrator_) It's up to you what you choose to do.
(Kalman) I think we may as well report now on this...
(Belden) (how close is it to the end of our shift?)
(Pavo) I think we should report, and clean up. I can't imagine it would look good for us to be wandering around all disgusting like this.
(Loch) Maybe we should head back, report to her and get cleaned up
(Belden) I agree.
(Falke) I agree as well.
(Kalman) right then
(Belden) (So we head back to base)
(Narrator_) You're also carrying large bags of money ;)
(Narrator_) Might be another reason for going back ;)
(Narrator_) Okay.
* Falke hates being dirty. He is actually quite fastidious; you who live in the barracks would know.
(Pavo) (Pshaw, money is immaterial!)
(Narrator_) ('tis not, it's quite heavy, actually ;)
* Falke and the rest go back to HQ.
(Narrator_) You head back to the barracks.
(Narrator_) People give you some funny looks on the street, being so grimy and carrying big sacks, but hey, whatever man ;)
* Belden smiles at them. :)
(Kalman) ...
(Narrator_) You get back to the barracks without any trouble.
* Falke grins as well.
(Kalman) are we returning and reporting and *then* cleaning up?
* Kalman says, since he doesn't actually have anything at the barracks
(Belden) Yes... I don't feel comfortable having all this money around :o
(Boden) probably should.
(Falke) Probably we ought to report first.
* Pavo would assume we'd report first.
(Falke) So they can send out a detail to make sure the rest of the street is clear.
(Falke) And so we can give the money to the boss.
(Kalman) alright
* Svodoba gives you an amused grin as you enter
(Svodoba) Looking good.
(Falke) We try...
* Falke grins.
(Loch) Really, I thought it was an improvement
* Boden grins back
(Belden) We just had a run in with smoe very unpleasant creatures infesting a house in Pearl...
(Svodoba) Yeah?
* Kalman nods
(Svodoba) Tell me about it, but don't sit down.
(Belden) We took care of all the ones in that house...
(Kalman) Some sort of little... Dust Devils
(Svodoba) Otherwise, I'll just make you clean everything.
(Svodoba) Dust devils?
(Belden) Hopefully there aren't any more in that neighborhood...
* Svodoba thinks for a bit.
(Belden) It might bear looking into, though.
(Svodoba) Probably mephits. Nasty little buggers - like elementals, sort of.
(Belden) Ah...
(Kalman) hmm.
(Falke) It was on Thrawl Street.
* Belden files that information away.
* Falke adds quietly since no one mentioned that.
(Belden) The house they were infesting was abandoned.
(Svodoba) We'll have someone check into it, but most likely people would notice if there were mephits in their house. They aren't subtle.
(Falke) The buildings are mostly abandoned.
(Svodoba) As you may have noticed.
(Pavo) ...yet inhabited...
(Belden) That's comforting, in a way..
(Falke) They're used by squatters, on that street.
(Boden) Tell her about the ghost.
(Svodoba) Ghost?
* Belden nods to Boden.
* Boden says excitedly
(Kalman) yes, that was the interesting part
(Belden) We were alerted to the problem by a ghost, possessing a boy...
* Svodoba sounds intrigued despite herself
(Belden) It was... very odd
(Svodoba) Hm..
(Kalman) The person who approached us was a ghost, possessing someone else
(Svodoba) Interesting.
(Kalman) He said it had been his family home, 900 years ago
(Belden) He said that his family had owned the house, what was it... nine hundred years ago?
(Belden) During the reign of Empress Celesse Dizon.
(Svodoba) Well, it was good of you to help him, anyway. Ghosts can be hard to deal with if you piss them off.
(Pavo) (Echo... echo... cho... o...)
* Svodoba looks impressed
(Svodoba) That's a while ago.
(Belden) He seemed at peace, when we left.
* Belden says, with a little smile.
(Kalman) indeed
* Svodoba nods
(Svodoba) It sounds like you did some good work, then.
(Belden) We found some things, after the battle...
(Svodoba) You want I should divvy that stuff up, I imagine?
* Belden places the bags of gold, the box, and the dagger, in front of her.
(Belden) The knife is enchanted in some way.
* Svodoba examines the stuff a bit gingerly - it's all filthy ;)
(Svodoba) We'll have this stuff checked out.
(Svodoba) I won't keep you from your baths, though. Run along.
(Belden) Thank you sir!
* Svodoba smiles at you all
(Svodoba) Good work.
* Boden smiles back.
(Boden) (how good looking is Svodoba?)
* Loch nods and leaves
(Kalman) yes, thank you, sir.
* Kalman will leave
* Boden gives a smart salute.
* Belden will go back to the barracks, happily humming the tune to a hymn.
(Narrator_) She's a bit horsy-looking and 45 years old, Boden ;)
(Kalman) should we meet somewhere?
* Pavo will return to his humble abode and clean himself up.
* Kalman is assuming we aren;t done for the day, or are we?
(Belden) How about outside the barracks?
(Boden) (are the baths comunal?)
(Narrator_) No, you're not done (though the session is)
(Kalman) ('k)
(Narrator_) And yes, though they're divided into male and female.
(Pavo) (or not)
* Kalman will go home, clean, and change, meet back later at the barracks, yay
(Boden) (actually, this is a good time to ask this question...what about the barracks themselves. are they divided? Or do I get to watch belden change?
(Falke) (Do we share our room with people from other squadrons?)
(Falke) (Or are we on our own?)
* Loch just gets cleaned up
* Boden gets washed up.
(Narrator_) The barracks are several really big halls. It would be impractical to divide between male and female for sleeping, so they put you all together.
(Boden) (that means I've seen Belden naked!)
* Falke needs to find a place out of sight where he can move his stolen coin from his sleeves and put them in a less suspicious place.
(Belden) (not likely...)
(Falke) (Toilets are private?)
(Belden) (I'm very modest. I can get changed without showing skin)
(Belden) (and baths are not co-ed)
(Narrator_) There are latrines. THey're .. sort of private ;)
(Narrator_) Sort of the "long bench with holes" set up. But also divided into m/f
(Falke) (Ok)
* Loch will head to the meeting spot after he is clean
* Falke finds a long bench that is not being used by anyone else, sits down and transfers the coinc into a pocket.
* Falke then goes to clean up.
(Narrator_) Falke, I'll assume you can get your horde out cleanly. YOu have 10 gp in assorted coins
(Falke) (whee!)
* Falke will look for Boden once he's clean.
(Narrator_) And I'll assume you all manage to bathe and get back to your meeting place, probably an hour or so later.
* Pavo returns to continue his duty...
* Boden isn't shy...so Belden has probably seen him naked.
(Narrator_) Those of you at the barracks would have some time to goof off, though, before the others get back ;)
* Falke looks for Boden.
* Boden is sitting on his bed.
(Falke) (Anyone else around?)
* Belden will spend the time tending to the wounds of whosoever wishes it, and working on her medicines for her apothecary side business.
* Boden is writting in a slow block letters something in a book.
(Belden) I am.
* Loch will pass the time in the yard, whittling away at a piece of wood
(Belden) (I am, at my bunk)
(Falke) Hey Boden, what are you writing?
(Boden) just stuff on the monster.
* Falke sits down on his bed and laces up his clean civilian boots.
(Boden) I write it down or I forget it.
(Boden) How do you spell elemental?
(Falke) You keep a journal of the monsters you fight?
(Falke) ...
(Boden) Kind of.
* Falke hopes Belden will tell him.
(Boden) there aren't many in there.
(Falke) Yet.
* Falke grins.
(Boden) So far in the city, only the spider creature and the mephits.
(Boden) and back home I fought, Kobolds, orcs, goblins. And I've heard of ogres, but never seen one.
(Falke) ...
(Falke) I grew up thinking most of those were tales to scare bad children... ogres?
* Belden is quietly grinding something into powder with a mortar and pestle
(Boden) yep, there aren't a lot of them....I've only heard of one actually being around people once in my lifetime.
(Boden) basicly they are really big orcs
(Boden) kinda
(Boden) (Boden has "goblinoids" as his favored enemy as a ranger, so he knows this stuff.)
(Falke) That would tell me a lot if I knew what an orc looked like...
* Falke smiles sardonically.
(Falke) I'm a city boy, remember?
(Boden) well...they tell me there aren't any kobolds here...but they're tricky.
(Boden) so you never know.
* Falke nods.
(Falke) Well, maybe I'll see all those things yet.
(Falke) I guess I'll read for a while... when were the rest going to meet with us?
(Boden) whenever their done I guess.
(Boden) hmmm.
(Falke) Good answer...
(Boden) I guess I should have Belden check out my wounds.
* Boden will nod friendly like to Falke, then walk over to were Belden is.
* Falke gets off his bed and digs around in his trunk for his book. There's not any way he can get Boden away from Belden right now.
* Falke nods.
* Falke glances towards Belden.
(Falke) Is that for treating wounds?
(Boden) Belden...could you have a glance over my wounds?
* Belden nods.
* Falke glances at the mortar and pestle.
* Kalman gets bathed la la la...
(Boden) I cleaned them up good, but you know...
(Belden) (nods to Falke)
* Boden shrugs his shoulders.
(Belden) Sure, let me have a peek.
(Kalman) (Is the damge from that breath weapon somethign like a chemical burn, then?)
* Boden will strip to the waist so she can look him over.
(Belden) Come on over and sit down.
(Falke) Would you be able to look at mine when you're done with him?
* Belden pats the spot beside her on the bunk.
(Falke) My shoulder's pretty sore.
* Belden nods.
(Belden) I don't have much energy left... but I'll do what I can.
(Falke) Thanks.
(Falke) (Boden, I think... I'm down 7 points)
(Boden) (I'm down 8)
(Belden) (out of how many?)
(Falke) (7 out of 17 for me)
(Boden) (8 out of 21 for me.)
(Belden) (So Falke is more grievously injured...)
* Belden will roll a heal for Boden, then, and use her Cure Light on Falke.
(d8+3)
* Falke has settled down to reading his book.
* Falke has been reading the same book since his birthday.
* Belden will rub some salves and whatnot on Boden's rash...
(Falke) (slow reader...)
(Belden) I hope this helps. :)
* Belden will then go over to Falke.
(Falke) (I think it's been a month, on this small volume of poetry)
(Belden) The shoulder, was it?
(Falke) Oh?
* Falke looks up from his book.
(Falke) Yes...
* Belden will lay her hands lightly on Falke, and say a few words.
(Belden) (Cure light!)
(Narrator_) (Falke heals 6 points worth)
(Belden) (woo, I get cured :D)
(Falke) Thanks!
(Belden) That must be a good book...
(Falke) It is... my sister gave it to me.
(Belden) I see you with it all the time. how many times have you read it now?
(Falke) ...
* Belden smiles.
(Falke) I like to savour the words.
(Belden) I know what you mean.
* Falke looks down at his book, trying to hide embarrassment.
(Belden) I sometimes read the same passages over and over... you just find so many new levels.
* Belden sits back down on her bunk and picks up her apothecary stuff again.
* Falke nods and glances surreptitiously over towards Belden as she goes back to work.
* Belden hums happily as she mixes her medicines.
(Narrator_) (Okay, I think we'll call it there... I have to go eat now ;)
(Belden) (k)
(Falke) (ok)
(Loch) (ok night!)
(Belden) (I'm still wide awake though :/)
(Boden) (so am I)
(Falke) (and I)
(Narrator_) I'll be back in a bit - you can keep rping if you like, I guess :)
(Boden) (julie, befor you go...one question)
(Kalman) (I need to go home, aharr)
(Narrator_) ok
(
(Boden) (did you decide on my feat that I talked to you about?)
(Narrator_) Yes, you can have it. I'll email you with the details.
(Kalman) (Julie, I still have that huge list of things I want to do... expect lots of Solo time request when I get my internet ;)
(Narrator_) That's fine :)
(Kalman) (see you later, everyyone!)
* Kalman has quit IRC (Quit: )
(Narrator_) I'm off for food, but those of you who want to can keep playing. I'll be back in 20 minutes or so to see if you're still going ;)
(Boden) (Ok)
* Falke thinks Belden might not have figured out his shameful secret and relaxes.
* Falke goes back to trying to figure out a particularly long word.
(Belden) *grind grind grind
(Boden) so Belden...what kinda stuff do you have in your healers kit?
* Falke sets his book down.
* Boden is still sitting on her bed with his shirt off.
(Belden) Hm?
(Belden) Oh, all kinds of things...
(Falke) (Boden... trying to turn her on, eh?  ;^D)
(Boden) I know a little bit about healing, just battle field first aid.
(Falke) I don't know anything about it.
(Belden) Bandages, obviously... Some salves which will speed healing, and dull pain...
(Boden) and I was supose to learn all about nature and stuff....but I never was good at memorizing things.
* Belden will detail the items in her healer's kit, since I'm not entirely sure what they are.
* Boden listens.
* Boden nods.
* Falke listens as well.
* Falke often listens to conversations in the dorm room.
* Belden seems quite happy to talk about it.
(Falke) (Quite closely)
* Belden tucks one leg up underneath her.
(Belden) That's about it.
(Falke) It must have been fun learning about it all...
(Boden) yeah, that about what we had back home.
(Boden) but your bandages are a beter quality.
(Belden) It wasn't easy... but I wanted to be able to help people, even if I didn't have the energy to call upon the divine, you know, at the end of the day.
* Belden says sheepishly. :)
(Boden) I liked some of the stuff they tried to teach me...but there was so much I wasn't good at.
* Falke nods.
(Belden) I make some of my own medicines now, too.
(Falke) Really?
(Falke) How do you do that?
(Belden) I use them in the kit...
(Belden) I learned how to make some of them while I was in training.
(Belden) A lot of it I taught myself, once I knew the basics. :)
* Falke looks impressed.
(Belden) I give a lot of them out to people who need them...
(Falke) Of course...
* Falke smiles.
(Belden) If I ever get so that I can't be a guard... I think what I'd like to do is teach other people how to do what I do...
(Belden) Kids especially... kids like Maze and his sister.
(Falke) ...
(Boden) I might learn more about healing...but first I need to learn more about being a guard.
(Falke) Well, I don't know how many of them would be willing or able to take vows like you must have had to...
(Belden) Nono, not that...
(Belden) That's a big decision!
(Falke) But... teaching kids like that is a great idea.
(Belden) I mean the healing.
(Belden) The apothecary trade.
(Falke) Would you do it even if they didn't seem like they'd take vows?
(Belden) Nobody should be *forced* into a religious life.
(Belden) I'm just talking about lay healing, Falke, like this stuff here.
(Boden) I mean...I learned healing.
* Belden holds up her mortar and pestle, and smiles.
(Boden) and I don't think I'll ever be a cleric.
* Falke nods.
* Boden smiles.
(Boden) well...maybe of bear.
(Falke) It would be really nice if more kids could have opportunities like that.
(Belden) Yeah.
(Belden) :/
(Boden) (my computer is about to screw up on me....so I'll be right back.)
* Falke tugs on his collar and leans back against the head of his bed, and picks up his book again.
* Falke concentrates on figuring out that word.
(Falke) (Is Pavo gonna come hang out with us?)
(Pavo) (Is this after duty?)
(Falke) (yes)
(Belden) (I thought it wasn't; we were supposed to regroup and go back out to patrol)
* Falke puts his book down again, defeated by a word.
(Falke) Where *did* the rest go?
(Belden) I hope they don't think we're done for the day!
(Belden) (I'd be OK with skipping I suppose)
* Falke nods agreement with Belden.
(Boden) (what did I miss)
(Falke) (we are missing Kalman and Loch, though, so we prolly ought not go out on patrol without them)
(Falke) (anyway, IO'm getting sleepy now so I can't stay up much longer)
(Belden) (oh well... I guess we *are* about done then)
(Belden) (:/)
(Falke) (:^()
(Boden) (:/)
(Narrator_) (Unless Belden and Boden just want to talk to each other :)
(Narrator_) And Pavo too, I guess.
(Pavo) (Where are you all?)
(Belden) (barraks)
(Pavo) (And are we post-duty or before the last part of duty?)
* Pavo got lost when Falke looked for bedtime snacks :D
(Falke) (that was in ooc!  :^D)
(Pavo) (Ohh!)
* Boden will put his shirt on again once the salve soaks into his skin.
(Pavo) ?
* Boden will get back into his armour as well. Since he is suposed to be on duty.
* Falke gets geared up as well.
* Pavo walks down the aisle of bunks, his uniform looking much better.
(Boden) That was pretty cool eh?
(Belden) It was certainly exciting.
(Belden) And nice to be able to help someone... even if they are, um, dead.
(Falke) I hope there aren't anymore of those...
(Falke) Or that they didn't harm any of the street people.
(Boden) well...I think we'd have heard of monster attacks.
(Boden) I mean, street people probably won't report robberies, but monster attacks everyone reports.
(Falke) Unless they're dead.
* Pavo sighs.
(Boden) but then theird be corpses
(Pavo) I'd rather stick to people of flesh and blood, myself.
(Boden) nay, not me.
(Boden) If I gotta kill something, better its not human.
* Pavo eyes Boden. Unless they're eaten.
(Boden) Those were tiny little things, they coulnd't eat a whole person.
(Pavo) I suppose. I don't ... think in terms of killing some one from the start.
(Boden) really?
(Boden) Thats the first thing I think about.
(Boden) "Is there going to be a killing"
* Belden has gone back to concentrating on her medicines with the entrance of Pavo.
(Pavo) I just want to avoid it... that's why I keep my claws in my pack.
(Pavo) And then when I want them... I'm too busy to dig them out.
(Pavo) So I get stick with my whip and sickles
(Boden) man, I think I avoid more killings by having my sword ready to draw.
(Falke) I keep everything handy... when I'm on duty.
(Falke) And even sometimes when I'm not.
* Falke grins ruefully.
(Pavo) I need to find a better way to keep my claws handy. Away, but not AWAY.
(Boden) yeah, I keep my short sword with me pretty much all the time.
(Boden) maybe get somone from house wolf to rig them so they pop out?
(Falke) (Can we do that? o.O)
(Falke) (Or just use things that are already made?)
(Narrator_) (Well, that's what Wolves are known for - making crap and fixing crap :)
(Falke) (I have Use Technological device)
(Falke) (But I don't know about making any)
(Pavo) Ah... they're just a vanity of mine.
(Boden) They work better than your sicles.
* Belden bites her tongue.
(Boden) I don't get why you fight with gardening equipment.
* Belden bites harder to keep from giggling.
(Falke) They work, don;t they?
(Pavo) I keep them in much better shape than most gardening equiptment :)
* Falke comments.
(Pavo) Yeah, they work. But not as good as the claws.
(Pavo) Maybe I should look into a sheath of some kind for them.
(Boden) why not a sword? Just style?
(Pavo) Yes... and they were *expensive*, I'm not going to pack them away.
* Falke smiles and shakes his head.
(Falke) You're incorrigible, Pavo.
* Falke teases.
(Pavo) Am not!
* Boden laughs
* Pavo pouts along.
(Boden) maybe just ware one while on duty.
(Boden) like me.
(Falke) I just hope you never get promoted to chief uniform designer of the city guard... I'd be worried about what I'd have to wear...
* Falke teases more.
(Pavo) I have great taste in clothing.
* Belden tosses some other powder into her mixture.
(Boden) yeah, but I might have to fight with a rake or something.
(Pavo) I had a great outfit on to attend Loick's party.
(Boden) yeah, you did.
(Pavo) Hrmph.
* Belden wonders who Loick is.
* Pavo looks at Boden and thinks.
(Falke) Say...
(Boden) yeah?
(Falke) Does anyone know how to get grass stains out of velvet?
* Falke asks sheepishly.
* Boden laughs loudly and claps Falke on the back.
* Pavo tilts a brow and grins.
(Falke) Ooof...
(Boden) I try and wash my own cloths but on nancy cloths like velvet I need to pay someone to clean it.
* Falke jolts forward from Boden's clap.
* Belden sutdiously stares down at her work. :/
(Falke) Pay, huh?
(Pavo) I was surprised to see you there Boden... and with *Couramance*...
(Falke) :^/
(Pavo) Yeah, Falke, probably...
* Belden will pour the finished product into a small clay pot and stopper it carefully before putting it away.
(Boden) Yeah, well...its not like I could say no.
(Pavo) Well you could, but WHY?
(Pavo) The food was reason enough to go.
(Boden) true, true.
(Belden) . o O (Sometimes I think I connect, and then... it's like a whole different planet!)
(Boden) What was up with you there anyways Falke? That left me a little confused.
(Belden) . o O (Grass stains out of velvet... I wasn't born yesterday)
(Narrator_) (But hey, you might know how to get grass stains out of velvet ;)
(Belden) :/
(Falke) Oh...
* Belden carefully puts away all her apothecary implements.
(Falke) Well, I'm just a nonentity from Pearl City.
(Falke) We don't usually get invited to parties.
(Boden) thats what I mean.
* Belden will take out a little book and try to concentrate on reading it. :/
* Falke tries to think of how to change the subject.
(Pavo) You know, I think I might be slightly inspired...
(Falke) Oh?
(Falke) How so?
(Boden) (is Belden being obviouse that she doesn't like our conversation....or subtle?)
(Pavo) I've half a heart to go ask my mother if there are too many temple cats around lately.
(Pavo) I have no idea what they cost to feed... but it can't be more than I eat.
(Belden) (It's not that I look disapproving, just maybe uncomfortable)
(Pavo) Might make my dreary new place a bit warmer.
(Belden) (And no, I'm not trying to be obvious about it)
(Boden) How is your new place?
(Pavo) Adequate.
(Boden) are you going to throw a house warming?
(Pavo) I hadn't thought of it... actually.
(Pavo) But that might be a good idea.
(Boden) They are always fun. and you get gifts.
(Falke) ...
* Falke glances over at Belden.
* Pavo chuckles
(Pavo) I don't need gifts... I end up spending all my money on party clothes and expensive weapons...
* Belden is reading, or appears to be reading, a book called 'the Blade of Reason'
(Falke) (I probably can read that, at least. ^-^)
* Falke wonders what it's about.
(Falke) What is that book about, Belden? Looks a bit more serious than poetry...
(Belden) Hm?
(Belden) Oh... It's sort of a guide.
(Falke) A guide?
(Falke) To what?
(Belden) To guide one on the passage to the centre.
(Falke) Oh.
(Falke) To help you lead a good life, you mean.
* Boden seems to think about that.
* Belden smiles, and nods.
(Boden) what about that ghost?
(Boden) He didn't seem like he was upset or hurt...but isn't he off the path?
* Belden lays on her side, propping her head up on a hand.
(Belden) Yes...
(Belden) Ghosts are sometimes stranded here because they can't let go of their attachment to a former life...
(Belden) Sometimes they don't really know they're dead, you know?
(Boden) should we help him out? or just let him be?
(Belden) A lot of the time, they move on eventually... Edmon... seems like a pretty extreme case.
(Boden) I wonder how much it would cost to buy the house?
(Belden) I'm hoping that now that his house isn't inhabited by outlaws or monsters, he'll be able to let it go...
(Belden) You're thinking of leaving?
* Belden tries to hide her disappointment.
(Boden) not really.
(Boden) I like it here.
(Boden) I really do.
(Falke) You do?
(Boden) but it would be kinda neat to own a haunted house.
(Falke) Ha!
(Falke) I'd like my own house some day... but I'm not sure about it being haunted.
(Narrator_) (Maybe you should all move into the haunted house ;)
(Falke) But that's a long way off.
(Boden) but its in the middle of were we patrol.
(Belden) I don't need anything more than I have here...
(Boden) true.
(Falke) No... I mean buying a house is not something I can consider at this time.
(Falke) Well...
(Pavo) We could have a house-warming party THERE.
* Falke turns to Belden.
(Pavo) It sure needs the warmth *faux-shivers*
(Falke) Someday I'd like to find a wife and have a family. I don't think that would work so well in the barracks.
* Falke smiles.
(Boden) Its not that I need anything more than whats here.
(Belden) No... that would be different.
(Belden) But I'm all on my own.
* Falke nods.
(Belden) I don't have anyone to support.
(Boden) I guess I'm just a little sentimental about that old place. It really meant something to Edmon and the last people to live there were monsters and crimnals.
(Falke) Well, see how much it would cost, Boden.
(Falke) It might be pretty cheap...
(Pavo) The closest thing I have to a person to support is my mother... and that's just buying her trinkets and presents once in a while. I still live alone.
(Falke) The neighborhood's not the greatest.
(Pavo) Privacy is a nice thing...
(Belden) It might be good for the ghost, too, if he's still there, to have someone good living in it.
(Boden) but thats it too Falke.
(Boden) If we got a couple guards living int he neibourhood, maybe it would get better.
(Falke) Maybe...
(Boden) I'm just thinking out loud.
(Falke) I do that sometimes.
(Boden) I probably won't even look into it. but I feel bad for edmon
* Falke smiles.
(Belden) You have a big heart, Boden.
(Pavo) I think you do have a point about improving the neighbourhood. That could be a benefit.
(Falke) It goes with the rest of him...
* Falke grins.
(Pavo) Somehow though, I think it must be more complicated, or we'd have tried it already :)
* Falke smiles.
(Falke) There are a lot of problems in Pearl City...
(Falke) It *would* take more than a couple guards living on one little street... but at least that would be a start.
(Falke) Throw in Belden's school for street children, and you're building on it even more.
(Pavo) Haha
(Falke) But... the authorities aren't going to spend any money on schools, or more guard presence there.
* Belden smiles a little.
* Falke says sadly.
(Belden) Someday I'll do it, regardless of authorities.
(Pavo) (Voltaire!)
* Pavo chuckles
(Pavo) Maybe it should be Boden and Belden's school.
(Pavo) You'd have something to do with the money we earn
(Boden) yeah.
(Belden) I give pretty much all of mine away as it stands...
(Boden) If we keep busting places like the scarlet sign we would have tonnes of money for schools.
(Belden) Heh...
* Pavo shrugs
(Falke) Maybe you could start saving up to start a school, Belden.
(Falke) Wouldn't that be permissible?
(Boden) maybe you should start a school fund belden.
(Belden) Yes... I just don't know when I'm going to stop being in the guard...
(Boden) That reminds me.
(Belden) And in the meantime, I don't feel right just sitting on all that money like a dragon on its hoard, you know?
(Boden) Falke: You think you could find out if the scarlet sign, or a place like it started up again.
(Belden) There's this orphanage down in Rhenea, run by a cleric from the order of the Cat...
(Pavo) You're hardly a dragon.
(Belden) That's the idea
(Boden) Your thinking of teaching there?
(Falke) I can look into it, Boden...
(Belden) Well, I help them out now...
(Boden) Thanks. I just figure, those guys shot at us with crossbows, so we can't just let them get away.
* Falke chuckles.
(Belden) Whenever I end up leaving the guard, I'd like to start something like that... only I'd teach the kids as well.
(Boden) So we should find it again, cuz its always moving, and bust it again. Its no good if criminals thinks they can shoot at us and get away with it.
(Falke) Well, there's lots of children who could use it. I was pretty lucky: I had parents.
* Boden will nod in appreciation at Belden.
* Falke smiles.
(Boden) I dont' know what I'd do if I wasn't in the guard.
(Boden) I'm hoping to save money and send it home.
(Pavo) I'm tired of all the big criminal plots...
(Boden) I'm kinda scared of them to be honest.
(Belden) It is pretty daunting.
(Boden) but I feel like if we dont' keep at them then they'll come back to haunt us.
* Belden nods to Boden.
(Belden) I want to make a difference.
* Boden gets quiet.
(Boden) I was suposed to be a ranger.
(Boden) I was suposed to do all this stuff in gouge.
(Boden) but I wasn't good at it.
(Boden) I'm just glad I'm good at this.
(Belden) You're very good at it, Boden.
* Belden says warmly.
(Boden) thanks.
* Boden smiles broadly.
* Belden smiles.
(Boden) I'm good at some parts.
(Boden) others I need you guys for.
* Boden seems happy at that.
(Belden) That's why we're a team.
(Belden) :)
* Pavo looks down at his feet.
* Pavo forces a yawn and resumes looking around.
(Falke) I'm going to go take a walk about... anyone wish to come?
(Falke) (I need to crash)
(Belden) I'll go.
(Falke) Sure.
* Falke smiles.
(Belden) (ok... so that's the end then?)
* Belden gets up and stretches. She puts her book away then goes with Falke.
* Falke and Belden prolly talk a bit... maybe we can ic that some time. He has questions to ask about religion. ;^D
(Falke) (lates) Session Close: Mon Jan 13 23:49:05 2003

Solos

Session Start: Thu Jan 23 18:19:36 2003
* Logging #changeling to 'logs\solo9'
(Belden) I forget where we were supposed to be going.
(Belden) We were going somewhere.
* Falke and Belden were just going for a walk.
* Falke had asked if anyone wished to go, and she said yes.
* Falke and Belden walk. ^-^
(Belden) I thought there was a purpose
(Falke) (No, I was just getting out of the game because I had to go to bed, so I had him decide to go for a walk. Then when Belden came along it provided me with an opportunity to have Falek ask a few questions of Belden that I have been meaning to have him ask)
* Falke clears his throat when they are only a short distance from the barracks.
(Falke) Belden... if you don't mind my asking - it may be a very personal sort of thing - I was wondering what made you decide to become a cleric?
* Rumor is now known as Rum-away
(Falke) I've heard that people feel a calling for it... is that true?
(Belden) It is...
(Belden) IT is for me; I hope it is for others as well.
* Falke nods.
(Belden) I realized I'd been spending the coin of my life frivolously, perhaps...
* Falke glances at Belden and smiles. A mild rebuke in there? ;^)
(Falke) Well, I won't make you go into detail on your debaucherous early years...
* Falke teases.
(Belden) It was only nearly losing it that made me realize that the path I was walking couldn't lead to anything but sorrow.
(Belden) Debaucherous?
(Belden) O_o
(Falke) I'm teasing.
(Falke) I can't imagine you being debaucherous. Honestly.
(Belden) People always imagine priests having a past of one extreme or the other...
* Falke laughs lightly.
(Belden) I suspect my formative years were very much like yours.
* Belden shrugs.
(Falke) Well, I'd be a liar if I said I hadn't heard some rumours... but back on track.
(Falke) What does it feel like to be called? How do you *know* that's where you are being lead?
(Belden) You must be ready to hear, to begin with...
(Belden) But ... I don't know how to explain it. I guess it feels like home.
* Belden looks thoughtful.
(Falke) Like... home?
* Falke repeats curiously.
(Belden) Like coming home...
(Belden) Like someone had opened a door in front of you, and you knew that you belonged inside.
(Falke) ...
(Falke) That's really interesting. Do you think people can feel that way about other things, too? Not just religious callings, but callings to other ways they should lead their life?
(Falke) Or would that be something false?
(Belden) I cannot imagine that it's the same.
* Falke nods.
(Belden) The wheel turns at the heart of all things. Its way is the one true calling.
(Falke) ...
(Falke) Here's a question you must get asked often: if the wheel is at the heart of *all* things, does that mean it's also at the heart of the not-so-godd things in life? Say... a child losing its parents and having to eke out an existence on the street - like Maze and his sister.
(Belden) All roads lead to the centre... but some roads are rockier than others, it is true.
(Falke) Does the wheel plan out people's lives?
(Belden) Not as such...
(Belden) It simply is.
* Falke nods.
(Falke) So... if a person has a great talent for something, like my sister has for woodworking - like my father - that's not something the wheel did?
* Belden thinks for a moment.
(Falke) She just happened to be born with a talent...?
* Falke prompts.
(Belden) The gifts we are given are gifts indeed.
* Lemia has joined #changeling
(Belden) They are the blessings of the Six.
(Falke) ... From the wheel, then?
(Belden) And yet, it is up to us what we do with these gifts.
* Falke nods.
(Belden) Destiny, as the Blade of Reason tells us, is not a matter of chance.
(Belden) These gifts are meant to teach us something, within our lifetime.
(Falke) If a person is born with a gift given them by the wheel, and they fail to use it, then - would that be a sin?
(Belden) To deny that, yes... it would be to ignore the gift of the gods.
* Falke nods.
* Belden walks with her hands tucked into her sleeves, like a monk.
(Falke) What if the person uses the gift for wrongdoing?
(Belden) I would say that they are not using their gift as intended...
(Belden) Or perhaps, the lesson intended is for them to be caught and punished, and thus learn humility and repentance.
(Belden) you seem very curious about the Wheel/
* Falke smiles and turns to look at Belden.
(Falke) I'm very curious about most things.
(Belden) I have only been studying the Way for... well nearly seven years.
(Belden) But I am happy to answer that which I can.
(Belden) I can recommend some books to you, if you would like.
(Belden) There are several volumes which I find great sources of wisdom and insight!
(Falke) Seven years seems long enough to have developed a decent grasp on things...
(Belden) Oh, one can never hope to know all things.
(Belden) And of course, all things good to know are difficult to learn.
* Falke ducks his head in acknowledgement.
(Falke) Belden - one more question. If, as you say, destiny is not a matter of chance...
* Falke pauses to gather his thoughts.
(Belden) It is a matter of achievement.
(Falke) So - destiny is not prescribed by the wheel then? It is up to us, after all?
(Belden) It is.
(Belden) We are expected to make the most of our gifts, to use them to seek wisdom and grace.
(Falke) All right.
(Falke) And if a person uses her gifts for wrong because there seemed to be no other choice, she is guilty nonetheless.
* Belden smiles.
(Belden) There is always a choice.
(Belden) Every road has two directions.
(Falke) True. But if neither direction is pleasant, one must choose the lesser of two evils - isn't that so?
(Belden) One must look to the path of virtue.
(Belden) There is always another way, if one has the will to see it.
(Belden) One must trust that virtue will be rewarded - that struggle will be rewarded - with wisdom, and peace.
(Falke) Well... here's a situation for you: if an armed contingent of men came to your family's farm and swore they'd kill your family if you did not submit to rape - what is the better route? On the one hand, you prostitute yourself to save your family, on the other you sign their death warrants.
(Falke) An unlikely situation, true.
(Belden) A sacrifice I would make without a second thought.
(Belden) It would not be prostitution.
(Falke) Wouldn't it be? You sell your body to save your family.
* Belden shakes her head.
(Falke) It's the price for their lives.
(Belden) In that sense it becomes as serving the defense of the city.
* Falke smiles.
(Belden) And even if there were those - perhaps as yourself, who would name me a whore, still I would make that sacrifice, for the greater good.
* Elanya has joined #changeling
* ChanServ sets mode: +o Elanya
* Belden glances up at the sky.
(Belden) The sun is beginning to drop...
(Elanya) (arr, sorry if I'm late :( )
(Belden) Kalman should be back by now.
* Falke nods.
(Curtana) ('sokay)
(Falke) We should return.
* Belden nods.
(Falke) One last thing: if there is a chance to do great good after doing much that is not so good, would the ends justify the means?
(Falke) Thank you. You've been very helpful.
(Falke) (oh, wait... the nod probably wasn't an answer to his question)
(Belden) (it sure wasn't)
(Falke) (it was to his suggestion that they return home. Ok, n/m)
(Falke) One last thing: if there is a chance to do great good after doing much that is not so good, would the ends justify the means?
(Belden) Things are rarely so simple as the ends justifying the means.
* Belden says as they approach the barracks.
(Belden) Doing good is good... but if you must harm others to achieve your ends, then perhaps it is not good, after all.
(Belden) One must carefully weigh the consequences of one's actions.
* Falke nods.
(Falke) Something I wish our leaders would remember to do...
(Belden) As do I...
* Belden waves to Kalman.
(Falke) Well, maybe we can work on him.
* Falke nods towards Kalman, returning to his usual non-serious self.
* Falke grins.
* Elanya is now known as Kalman
(Belden) . o O (Kalman is hardly the big problem here...)
* Falke was joking.
* Kalman waves back
(Belden) Hello Kalman... Pavo and Boden are inside.
(Belden) (etc, etc.)
(Falke) Thanks for your time, Belden.
(Kalman) (yay)
* Falke heads in, etc. etc.
* Falke is now known as Debbie
(Curtana) arr
(Curtana) So Heather - remind me what the list of things Kalman wanted to do was? ;)
(Kalman) I was hoping you had it :o
(Kalman) It is somewhere in a eudora sent file on my computer ¬_¬
(Curtana) It's probably in an email... lemme check
(Kalman) 'k
(Curtana) not seeing it anywhere...
(Kalman) bugger
(Kalman) I think one of the things I wanted to do was talk to Dizon about her sister
(Curtana) I remember you wanted to take your sister out somewhere fun, too ;)
(Kalman) yes, that also :D
(Curtana) Can you remember anything else?
* Curtana must have deleted the email by accident or something. Grr
* Belden is now known as Longpig
(Kalman) ...
(Kalman) not off the top of my head...
(Kalman) I think I wanted to talk to franek about Boden, but I don't knwo how much there would really be to rp there...
(Curtana) Okay... for some reason I thought there was something with Eglorine too,but maybe I'm wrong
(Curtana) Yeah, I do remember that. Mostly it would be Franek agreeing with you ;)
(Kalman) mostly "I'm worried about Boden" "Me too" "What should we do?" *Shrug. "Dunno." "Me Neither." "Damnit."
(Curtana) "I know." "I told him that, he won't listen to me." "Yep."
(Curtana) That sort of thing...
(Kalman) so, like I said, not really a whoel lot to roleplay, but we could just say it happened
(Curtana) Sure, that works for me.
(Curtana) So, talking to Dizon, or something else?
(Kalman) lets do the Ivona thing first, so I can get more in character and figuire out exactly what I want to say to Dizon :o
(Curtana) Okay :)
* Curtana is now known as Ivona
(Ivona) (We'll say you have done the court formal thing by now. It was probably quite boring ;)
* Kalman has promised her a day out to do anything she wants, within reason ^-^
(Kalman) (bleh)
(Ivona) (but at least it's over ;)
* Ivona is excited about her day out.
(Ivona) But I don't know what to do!
* Kalman wonders what she is going to want to do..
(Kalman) ahh... hmmm
(Kalman) no idea at all?
(Ivona) Ah...
* Ivona seems to be trying to judge how much you'll let her get away with ;)
(Longpig) ((Ivona) Davilas!)
(Kalman) nothing out there that you've seen or heard about and always wondered what it would be like?
* Kalman grins
(Ivona) Well...
(Debbie) ((Ivona) there is one thing. Sex!)
* Kalman waits, expectantly
* Kalman is ind of excited, and maybe a bit apprehensive, but we sshall see
(Ivona) You know more about this sort of thing than I do...
(Longpig) ((Ivona) I want to bang your giant guard friend!)
(Kalman) what, the city?
(Ivona) About what would be fun...
(Longpig) (Can you hook me up?)
(Ivona) I don't really know. Maybe something where we would be outside, though. It's a nice day...
(Ivona) Are there outside taverns?
(Kalman) some of them have beer gardens
(Ivona) I like the sound of that.
(Ivona) We can start there, and maybe go somewhere else later, if that's okay?
(Kalman) of course :)
* Ivona bounces happily
* Kalman tries to think of a nice place with an outside spot
(Ivona) (The Dancing Dolphin is nice...)
* Kalman will take her there, then
(Kalman) We can go to the Dancing Dolphin..
(Kalman) 9Where is it?)
(Ivona) (It's in the Place D'Iena)
* Ivona looks around at everything, as if she has never seen it before.
* Ivona seems a bit nervous, though
* Kalman will try to get her to relax
(Kalman) it's only a tavern, not some sort of werid test ;)
(Ivona) (You get to the Dolphin, which is a nice outside beer garden sort of place)
(Ivona) I know...
(Ivona) But what if people look at me?
(Kalman) look at you?
(Ivona) Well, if they laugh at me. Or... I don't know, whistle or something.
(Ivona) I don't know what people do in this sort of place.
* Ivona says as you go to take your seats
(Kalman) Most people in the city have their own buisness to mind
(Ivona) Oh.
(Ivona) Okay.
(Ivona) What should I have to drink?
(Kalman) (what time is it?)
(Ivona) (Let's say late afternoon, after you got off from work)
(Kalman) (okay)
(Kalman) Well...
(Kalman) you could try some beer or cider, if you want...
(Ivona) Okay.. Cider sounds good.
(Ivona) You order it for me, though.
(Kalman) alright then, did you want to try one of the sweeter ones?
(Ivona) Um, yes, I think so.
(Ivona) Yes.
* Ivona decides
(Kalman) alright..
* Kalman will order her a sweet cider, and an ale for himself
* Ivona takes a sip of her cider
(Kalman) did you want to try any of the food?
(Ivona) Oh, it's nice!
(Ivona) Not yet... this is good enough.
(Kalman) alright
(Ivona) But if you're hungry, go ahead.
* Kalman shakes his head
* Ivona says, realizing you just got off work
(Kalman) I'll get somethign later, maybe
(Ivona) Alright.
* Ivona sips a bit more
(Kalman) so... How's it feel being fifteen?
(Ivona) Good, I guess. It's different than I thought it would be.
(Kalman) how so?
(Ivona) Well, I thought there would be more to it, I guess. It was all over so fast, and now I just feel... the same, mostly.
* Kalman nods
(Ivona) I could do things I couldn't before, but ... you know, not really.
* Ivona shrugs
(Kalman) I think that's the way it is for most people...
(Kalman) It's so arbitrary, I think
(Ivona) I would still get in big trouble from mother if I did anything she didn't like.
(Ivona) Even though I'm a grown up.
(Kalman) *I* still get in trouble when I do things they don't like
* Ivona smiles at that
(Ivona) I guess it never stops, then.
(Kalman) That's just parental nature, I expect
(Kalman) NOt as far as I'm aware of
* Kalman pauses for a moment, thinking
(Ivona) What have you gotten in trouble for lately, though?
(Ivona) I haven't noticed anything, at least.
(Kalman) ...
(Kalman) well, its harder for them to keep track of what I'm up to now that I've moved away :)
(Ivona) That makes sense.
(Ivona) Probably I won't get to move away unless it's to my husband's house.
* Ivona sounds resigned
(Kalman) :/
(Ivona) Oh well.
(Kalman) Do you want to get married?
(Ivona) Yes...
(Kalman) You probably know, mother is already drawing up a list...
* Ivona nods
(Ivona) She's talked to me about it...
(Kalman) I figured she would have
(Kalman) Have you met any of them?
(Ivona) I know who some of them are...
(Ivona) I've met them all, as far as I know, unless mother's added more without my knowledge
(Ivona) Most of them were at the party...
* Kalman nods
(Ivona) Except Davilas.
* Ivona watches your reaction to that
* Kalman makes a face
(Kalman) No loss there.
(Ivona) Mother said that she wasn't so sure about him, anymore.
(Kalman) well, good.
(Ivona) I wonder why.
(Kalman) (He was at the party, though, wasn't he?)
(Kalman) Well, I think you can trust her judgement there, in any case
(Ivona) (Yes, he was there. She meant that your mother hadn't talked to her about Davilas lately...)
(Ivona) I guess so...
(Ivona) Do you know who
(Ivona) mother and father are thinking of?
* Kalman nods
(Ivona) I mean seriously.
(Ivona) Because I can't tell who they're serious about, most of the time.
(Ivona) Mother gushes all over all of them the same way.
(Kalman) (Damn, I don't have my copy of The List....)
(Ivona) (I can cut and paste it to you in a window... sec)
(Ivona) And Father just goes all noble and dignified.
* Ivona makes a face
(Kalman) I think I've mostly been spared the gushing
* Kalman hasn;t actaully talked to his father in a while, except for at the party, I think?
(Ivona) (I'd say not)
(Kalman) I haven't spoken to Father about it at all
(Ivona) "Oh, you *must* tell me about your parents' house in the country!"
* Ivona imitates your mother quite well, actually
* Kalman grins
(Ivona) She's been having them round to tea... there've been three so far.
(Kalman) which ones?
(Ivona) Argantael Waring, and Methric Deluna, and Rayce Elzior.
(Ivona) Argantael kept coughing the whole time, and Methric could barely string two sentences together.
* Kalman nods
(Kalman) not much chemistry there, then?
* Ivona shakes her head
(Ivona) Rayce... was handsome, at least.
(Ivona) At least he didn't have an overbite like Methric's.
(Kalman) hmm.
(Ivona) He's kind of old, though.
(Kalman) Mother had mentioned that...
(Ivona) What, that he's old?
(Ivona) Or that he's handsome?
(Kalman) That he's somewhat older than you
(Ivona) I think he's about 24.
(Kalman) older than me, even...
* Ivona nods
(Kalman) I don't really know him.
(Ivona) He has pretty hair.
(Kalman) 9Would I know him to see him, even?)
(Ivona) (Yeah, you would know him to see him, certainly. Probably have talked to him a few times, even)
(Ivona) (He is some sort of cousin of yours, after all ;)
(Kalman) (True)
(Kalman) (seems nice enough, then?)
(Kalman) So he's the pick of the lot for now, is he?
(Ivona) (Yep. You know he's fairly outdoorsy, seems to like hunting and such)
(Ivona) I guess so.
(Ivona) Mother just kept asking him questions about how much money he has. She didn't say it quite like that, but I could tell what she was getting at.
* Kalman sighs
(Ivona) I think he's really rich.
(Ivona) That's probably why they like him.
(Kalman) Probably
* Kalman tries to think of other house bear boys around Ivona's age
(Ivona) (other than Boden? ;)
(Kalman) (yes, other than Boden ;)
(Kalman) (nobles ;)
(Ivona) (Boden's a noble ;)
(Longpig) (Boden's a noble)
(Ivona) (The mighty house of de Gouge :)
(Kalman) (bite me? ;D )
(Ivona) (heee)
(Longpig) (hey, she could do worse than Boden )
(Kalman) (Boden is Shagging Couramance ;)
(Longpig) (who isn't)
(Kalman) (exactly. Anyone who's been a paramour of the Whore of babylon is off the Ivona list ;)
(Ivona) (heheh)
(Ivona) Do you think I should marry him?
* Ivona asks abruptly
(Kalman) I don't know :o
(Kalman) I think you should be able to marry someone who you care about and cares about you, too.
(Ivona) Maybe I should... He has his own house, at least, which is more than can be said for some of the boys mother's suggested. I don't really want to move in with someone *else's* parents.
(Debbie) (Falke recommends she find a good commoner who has money. Not inbred, know how to work for a living (not using himself as an example...) and likely to treasure what they have, including her. ^-^)
(Kalman) (Falke doens't have money ;p)
(Kalman) Well...if that's what you want...
(Debbie) (That's why he's nt using himself as an example. Also, he is House Wolf. He wouldn't touch her.  ;^D )
(Ivona) I don't know... I don't know what I want.
* Ivona takes another drink
(Ivona) I do want what you said, someone who cares about *me*, not about my name, or my money, or my parents.
(Ivona) But I don't know if that's going to happen.
(Ivona) I mean, I've never met anyone like that.
(Ivona) I wish it could be like with mother and father, where they just fell in love and got married.
* Ivona says wistfully
(Kalman) . o O (I am very lucky to have found Eglorine the first time, and then have her come back... even luckier))
(Kalman) ...
(Kalman) Well, I don't know if it was really that simple for them or not, but, yes, it would be nice...
(Ivona) Well, I thought they just met at court. It's not like their parents set them up or something.
* Kalman nods
(Ivona) So they must have just fallen in love.
(Ivona) It's so romantic.
(Kalman) Maybe you could talk to mother about spending more time at court, so that you could have a chance to meet people in less contrived situations
(Kalman) ...
(Ivona) Maybe...
(Ivona) But I don't know if she would say yes. She always brings up my health when I say things like that.
(Ivona) About how delicate I am, and how I have to be careful, and blah blah blah.
(Longpig) (I bet your mom is secretly poisoning Ivona to keep her weak. Munchausen's syndrome)
(Kalman) well...
(Kalman) She does have a point, but I don't see why it would have to be an insurmountable obstacle
(Ivona) You think?
(Debbie) (I expect that if she does get married, she'll die in childbirth and not produce an heir. I doubt she's very valuable as a breeder, which is probably something most nobles would want.)
(Kalman) (hush you! take it ooc :p)
(Kalman) 9What is her healer type's name again?)
(Ivona) (I never made one up :)
(Ivona) (But I could, if you like :)
(Kalman) (oh.)
(Kalman) (sure :)
* Longpig has quit IRC
(Read error: Connection reset by peer)
(Ivona) (Sister Tova, then :)
(Kalman) You could get her to talk to Sister Tova. Or, you could talk to her yourself...
(Ivona) Maybe I could..
(Ivona) I've been feeling better lately. Not so tired all the time.
(Kalman) That's great :)
(Kalman) really great, even
* Ivona nods
(Kalman) Going to court more shouldn't be too much of a problem then, either
(Ivona) Maybe...
(Ivona) :)
(Kalman) well, I think you should talk to Sister Tova, at least
(Ivona) I will, I promise.
(Kalman) One thing about being an adult, technically, is that the more you act like one, the harder it is for people to treat you like a child, too.
(Ivona) That makes sense.
(Kalman) Well, I think so, anyway. If you always let people take responsability for you, then why should they ever let you do things on your own?
* Ivona nods, finishing the last of her cider
(Kalman) of course, that attitude does have to be somewhat tempered when dealing with parents...
* Kalman notices
(Kalman) Did you want to stay here?
(Ivona) Um..
* Ivona looks at her empty mug
(Ivona) I guess I'm done.
* Ivona looks a bit rueful
(Kalman) ...did you want another?
(Ivona) Maybe somewhere else.
(Ivona) I want to see as much as I can!
(Ivona) (brb, sorry)
(Kalman) alright, somewhere else, then :)
(Ivona) Okay!
* Ivona stands, ever so slightly wobbly
* Kalman grins
(Kalman) well, maybe one was enough anyway :)
(Ivona) Maybe :o
(Ivona) It was stronger than I thought it was...
(Ivona) Can we go to the theatre tonight?
(Kalman) the theatre?
(Kalman) If we can get tickets
(Ivona) I think that would be nice...
(Kalman) well, I'll see what I can do, then :)
(Ivona) (sec, sorry again)
(Kalman) (How hard would it be, in theory to get theatre tickets for tonight?)
(Ivona) (Not too hard, if you're willing to either settle for crappy seats or pay for really good ones)
(Kalman) (fair enough)
(Ivona) I heard about this play at the Imperial, called The Three Daggers.
(Kalman) (I'll go for option number two :)
(Kalman) oh?
(Ivona) (woo :)
(Kalman) What's it about?
* Ivona nods
(Ivona) About this woman whose lover betrays her, and then she gets her revenge on him.
(Kalman) interesting
(Ivona) I thought it might be.
(Kalman) well, lets go, then, I don't know what time it would be starting...
(Kalman) who did you hear about that from?
(Ivona) Probably not until sunset, anyway.
(Kalman) true
(Ivona) I think one of the people at the party was talking about it. I forget who.
(Kalman) ahh
(Kalman) well, we could get somethign to eat first, then, maybe, or just wander around for a while...
(Ivona) Eating sounds good.
(Ivona) You lead the way.
(Kalman) alright... any ideas about where you want to go? What kind of food?
* Ivona shakes her head
(Ivona) Somewhere...not so fancy ;)
(Kalman) not so fancy, eh?
* Ivona nods
(Kalman) how not so fancy?
(Ivona) Less like somewhere mother and father might go, and more like somewhere you might go. ;)
(Kalman) ahh, alright then :)
* Kalman will take her to someplace he knows that has good food, but is realtively low-key...
(Kalman) (Not the place when I dated the bar-wench, though. For the record. ;)
(Ivona) (You will have to cross the river to get to the Castalia, where the Imperial theatre is located. There's a nice-ish place near the university called Uncle Barm's Last Rest)
(Ivona) (Of course ;)
(Kalman) (That works :)
(Ivona) (Okay, you can go there for some food)
(Ivona) (Did you want to keep talking to Ivona, or were you pretty much done?)
(Kalman) (I was pretty much done, I just wanted to warn her that the slim potential of romance aside, court is pretty boring ;)
(Ivona) (heheh)
(Ivona) (Tell her that, then :)
(Kalman) (alright)
(Kalman) So, Ivona... I should probably warn you, since I was the one who brought it up in the first place...
(Ivona) hmm?
(Ivona) Yes?
(Kalman) While going to court more might be a good way to meet people your own age.... It is mostly just, ah, boring.
(Ivona) Oh.
(Ivona) Do you think it was more exciting in the olden days, when mother and father were young?
(Kalman) I don't really know...
(Kalman) you could ask them, I suppose
(Ivona) Mother makes it sound like the most exciting time of her life.
(Ivona) But I guess the rest of her life has been pretty boring.
* Kalman grins
(Kalman) Well, I found court boring, anyway
(Ivona) It must not have been *that* boring...
(Ivona) ;)
(Kalman) hmm?
(Ivona) Well...
(Ivona) (w) That was where you met her, right?
(Kalman) oh...
* Ivona says in an undertone
(Kalman) Well.. *cough* I suppose that did make it more bearable, yes.... :D
* Ivona smiles at that
(Ivona) Although...
* Ivona stops smiling
(Ivona) Maybe that would almost be worse.
(Ivona) To meet someone and fall in love, and then have mother and father tell me I can't marry them for some reason.
(Kalman) ...
* Ivona looks sort of sorry for you
(Kalman) Well...
(Ivona) And to not even know why, that would be the worst part.
* Kalman sighs
* Kalman shakes his head
* Ivona pats your hand
(Kalman) I don't think there is really anything they could do to stop me from marrying her.
(Ivona) You should do what you want.
* Ivona nods
(Ivona) But... I don't know if I could do that.
(Ivona) If it were me, I mean.
(Kalman) If anything similar happened to you, You know I'd be in your corner
(Ivona) Well, yes.
(Kalman) It's more her parents that I'm worried about, anyway...
* Kalman frowns
(Ivona) Why?
(Kalman) I gues... I'm confident that I could handle thinsg with Mother and father, but I don't want it to have to be hard for her, too, and I know her father doesn't like me...
(Ivona) Oh.
(Ivona) Why?
(Kalman) I'm... not *exactly* sure.
(Kalman) I think it's because he thinks I, ahh... was *cough* disrespectful to his daughter, when she was younger.
* Kalman goes a bit red.
(Ivona) :o
(Kalman) . o O 9Although I don't know if that's all of it)
(Ivona) Disrespectful?
* Ivona cocks her head to one side
(Ivona) Disrespectful how?
(Kalman) ..
(Ivona) :o
(Kalman) I think He was mostly just being an overprotective father in that sense...
(Ivona) :o
* Kalman coughs again
(Kalman) ... anyway
(Kalman) I think there is more to it than that.
(Ivona) Uh... would there *need* to be more? :o
(Kalman) ...
(Kalman) what? :o
(Ivona) How would father feel if someone did that to me?
(Ivona) Or, had done, last year.
(Kalman) ...
* Kalman sighs
(Kalman) Love is... complicated sometimes.
(Ivona) I guess so! :o
(Ivona) Was it worth it?
(Kalman) yes.
(Kalman) well...
(Kalman) Not when she was sent away, no.
(Kalman) But now... yes.
* Ivona smiles at that
(Ivona) That's good, then.
(Ivona) I'm glad.
* Rum-away is now known as Rumor
(Kalman) I do wish things were less complicated, though
(Ivona) Maybe I should just marry one of the people mother's got picked out. That would be less complicated than anything...
(Ivona) And you should just marry her. That would be complicated, but at least it would be settled...
(Ivona) If that's what you want, I mean.
(Kalman) It is...
(Kalman) I have been meaning to talk to her about it
(Ivona) Really? :o
* Ivona is all excited
(Kalman) Its hard to find a good time to bring up the subject, though
(Ivona) Would it be a secret wedding?
(Ivona) Could I come?
(Kalman) probably and maybe :)
(Ivona) Hee!
(Kalman) I do't know yet
(Kalman) It isn't just up to me, anyway
(Kalman) . o O (She wouldn't say no, though. Would she? :o)
(Ivona) Oh, no, I guess not.
* Ivona claps her hands
(Ivona) Oh, it's so exciting!
(Kalman) well, yes, it would be exciting...
* Kalman smiles happily
(Ivona) *Will* be!
(Kalman) well, hopefully :D
(Ivona) :)
(Kalman) As for your potential suitors...
(Kalman) If you wanted me to, I could maybe see if I can find anything more out about them, that mother might not know, or not tell you...
(Ivona) Ooh, like whether any of them have mistresses or anything like that?
(Ivona) Because I think I'd want to know that...
* Kalman nods
(Ivona) I mean, I don't expect them to have *never* done anything bad... boys are supposed to do *some* bad things ;)
* Kalman nods
(Ivona) They're just meant to stop them when they get married ;)
(Kalman) true
(Kalman) I suppose...
* Kalman frowns
(Ivona) What?
(Kalman) Oh, nothing, really...
* Kalman sighs
(Ivona) No, what?
(Ivona) You can tell me.
(Kalman) I was just wishing there was some nice young, handsome, perfect gentleman out there to come along and sweep you off your feet :)
* Ivona giggles
(Ivona) That's nice of you.
(Kalman) anyway, if you want me to look into all of them, I can do that, or if you have a short list, I can save some time ;)
(Ivona) Well, I do want to know more about Rayce...
(Kalman) alright
(Ivona) Neither of the other two who've been over, though.
(Ivona) Yuck.
* Kalman grins
(Kalman) alright then, if they were both really that repulsive :)
* Ivona nods
(Ivona) They were. Really.
(Kalman) alright then :)
(Kalman) what about the other ones?
(Kalman) I can tell you right now that regnier Marcoux has a reputation for unfaithfulness...
(Ivona) I guess Regnier Marcoux... he's the emperor's grand-nephew, after all...
(Ivona) Oh.
(Ivona) Never mind, then.
(Kalman) Kenelm Walther is kind of a jerk, too... not so much as Davilass, I expect. He's hard to top.
(Kalman) But I don't know anything about the last one... Ghismond Marcilien
(Ivona) Well, then, find out about him too.
* Ivona says decisively
(Kalman) alright, then, that should make things easier
(Ivona) :)
(Kalman) I can see how well my guard training can serve me in this ;)
(Ivona) hee!
(Ivona) Okay!
(Ivona) Rayce did have very pretty hair...
* Ivona says a bit wistfully
(Kalman) well, hopefully, he'll be clean, then ;)
* Ivona nods
(Kalman) (so, we eat? Go to the theatre?)
(Ivona) (indeed)
(Kalman) (I think I'm done with things I wanted to talk to her about, unless she has more to say)
(Ivona) (It's the show that Antenia has the female lead in. It's very good)
(Kalman) (yay ;)
(Ivona) (She's done, too :)
(Kalman) (grovy)
(Ivona) (so, you wanna talk to Dizon now?)
(Ivona) (Or is it getting too late?)
(Kalman) So, yes, I want to see what kinf of information I can gather about those two guys, in my off time, then.
(Ivona) Okay. I'll tell you... just a sec while I roll for you :)
(Kalman) I thought I was goign to have to leave with Joel, but he went home already because he was feeling ill
(Kalman) keen
(Kalman) so I can stay until whenever, basically
(Ivona) cool :)
(Ivona) Re. Ghismond. He's sort of pizza-faced, and not really a womanizing type. Fairly shy and good-natured, though, from anything you can find out. You hear he writes very bad poetry in his spare time ;)
(Kalman) wooh!
(Ivona) Re. Rayce. He's older, and like I said, quite outdoorsy. He keeps a house in the city and a hunting lodge in the country. (more coming)
* Kalman will relate that to Ivona.
(Kalman) (The stuff about ghismond)
(Ivona) You hear that he has some, shall we say, interesting friends. Like Loick Talavera, for one. But you don't hear anything about him being outrageously debaucherous.
(Ivona) He is quite good-looking, and he *does* have pretty hair ;)
(Ivona) And his family are very, very rich.
(Ivona) Very.
(Kalman) 'k
(Ivona) That's about it. :)
* Kalman will ask Pavo about him, then ;D
(Ivona) hee
(Kalman) before I relate to Ivona on him ;)
(Ivona) OKay :)
(Ivona) (/me will make a roll for Pavo, rather than having to wait for ages ;)
(Kalman) can you e-mail me that info?
(Kalman) (alright)
(Ivona) Pavo hasn't heard much about him. Maybe that's a good sign?
(Kalman) . o O (Well, apprently *our* father liked men. Before he was married. Yes. *before*....)
(Debbie) Too bad you wouldn't think to ask Boden... ^-^
(Kalman) indeed
(Kalman) why would I :o
(Ivona) indeed
(Ivona) So there you go.
(Kalman) ahh well
(Ivona) hee hee
(Kalman) I suppose if he likes men, he might not really be interested n marrying, and Ivona won't have to worry about it.
(Kalman) I will tell her what i found out, though
(Ivona) Okay :)
(Ivona) (she has a question:)
* Ivona asks you, once you finish telling her what you found out
(Kalman) (great)
(Ivona) If he's friends with Loick, then that must be good, right?
(Kalman) ahh...
(Kalman) Well, Loick has something of a reputation...
(Ivona) But he's our cousin. And the Talaveras are a good family...
(Ivona) A reputation for what?
(Kalman) (What exactly is his reputation? I don't knwo if I actually know he is gay or just sort of generally debaucherous ;)
(Ivona) (heheh - You've heard he definitely prefers the company of men, but sometimes isn't too picky ;)
(Kalman) well.... being a playboy, for one...
* Kalman coughs.
(Ivona) And for two?
(Kalman) I've also heard that he , ah, prefect the company of men, generally.
(Kalman) (prefers)
(Ivona) Oh. Ohhhh.
* Ivona gets it
(Ivona) Oh.
(Kalman) yes.
(Ivona) Does that mean that Rayce is..
(Kalman) I don't know, but it might...
(Ivona) :o
(Ivona) How can I tell?
(Kalman) ahh...
(Kalman) Well...
(Kalman) Look at it this way.
(Kalman) If you think you might be interested in marrying him, you're probnably goign to want to get to know him better first.
* Ivona nods to that
(Kalman) I don't know that any of these people mother has line up are, well, necessarily going to be interested in marriage themselves.
(Kalman) If it turns out that he is, welll... I suppose, you could ask him?
(Ivona) :o
(Ivona) Just ask him?
(Ivona) Just like that?
(Ivona) I wouldn't know what to say!
(Kalman) well, maybe not right off...
(Ivona) "Excuse me, but do you prefer the company of men?"
(Kalman) Like I said, it depends on how far things go
* Kalman grins
(Kalman) You might be able to get a sense of it without having to spend a lot of time around him...
(Kalman) You wouldn't have to be that blunt, I suppose.
(Ivona) You mean if he tries to look down my dress and things like that?
(Kalman) You could, say, tell him that you've heard he is a close friend of Loick's, and go from there
(Kalman) well, I guess so.
(Ivona) Oh, yes. I guess I could do that.
(Kalman) Even if he doens't prefer the company of men, though...
(Kalman) Some of the things I've heard about some of Loick's after-party-parties...
(Ivona) Like what?
* Ivona sounds curious
(Kalman) what's the most debaucherous thing you could think of?
(Ivona) Um...
(Ivona) Doing it someplace that's not the bedroom?
(Kalman) ...a lot more debaucherous than that
(Ivona) ...
(Ivona) A lot?
(Kalman) ...easily.\
(Ivona) But you won't tell me what?
* Ivona wheedles
* Kalman sighs
(Ivona) Have you been to any of these parties? :o
(Kalman) No, I've just heard rumours
(Ivona) Oh.
(Kalman) I know people who have, though
(Ivona) Oh?
(Ivona) And?
(Kalman) do you really want to know?
(Ivona) I'm a grown-up now. I think I can handle it.
* Ivona says in a haughty tone
(Kalman) I suppose...
(Kalman) (would we be at home?)
(Ivona) (probably. You can be wherever you like at home, though)
(Kalman) (Fair enough)
(Ivona) (i.e. you can be far away from your parents, if you like)
(Kalman) Well... 'swapping'.... trading partners that is...
(Kalman) (yeah, that's what i meant ;)
(Kalman) Ad orgies...
* Ivona will listen primly
(Kalman) that sort of thing
(Ivona) I understand.
(Ivona) . o O (I think...)
(Kalman) I hear he has whole suites of bedrooms furnished for different, ah, tastes
(Ivona) o_O
(Kalman) (I'm trying to expand from what I know to be true to more rumour-y things).
(Kalman) so...yes.
(Ivona) (sure ;)
* Kalman thinks that's enough of that ;0
(Ivona) (heheh)
* Ivona looks vaguely intrigued and disturbed at the same time
(Ivona) Ah.
(Ivona) Well, I still think I'll ask mother to invite him over again. And this time I'll make her let me talk to him myself.
(Ivona) Alone.
* Kalman nods
* Ivona sticks her chin out
(Ivona) And then I can ask him about ... all of this.
(Kalman) that's good, then
* Kalman wonders if he would tell the truth
* Ivona nods firmly
(Ivona) That's what I'll do.
(Kalman) alright
(Ivona) Thank you, Kalman.
* Ivona gives you a little hug
* Kalman hugs her back
(Kalman) I just want to make sure that you can be happy
* Ivona nods
(Ivona) I do too.
(Ivona) (we good? :)
(Kalman) (I think so)
(Ivona) ('k)
(Ivona) (you wanna talk to Dizon tonight too?)
(Kalman) (Could do, I'
(Kalman) (I'm not doing anything else, that is)
(Ivona) (okey dokey)
* Ivona is now known as Tristane
(Kalman) I mean, I could go home and hang around sickly Joel while he works on school projects ;p
(Tristane) (heheh)
* Tristane has not been around for a few days, strangely enough.
(Tristane) (But I'm sure you can track her down - you know where the Dizons live, for example)
(Kalman) (sure)
(Tristane) (You track her down, then ;)
(Kalman) (where?)
* Tristane is probably at her sister's house, actually, but if you go there, she'll just come with you to a tavern, rather than hang out there.
(Kalman) (alright)
* Tristane looks like she hasn't slept in a while
(Kalman) how are you doing?
(Tristane) I've been better.
* Kalman asks, then, concerned
* Kalman nods
(Kalman) How is Sekia?
* Tristane sort of shrugs
(Tristane) She's hanging on, though they don't really know how.
(Tristane) The arrow was poisoned.
* Kalman nods
(Kalman) I guessed that
(Tristane) She hasn't woken up at all..
(Tristane) They don't know if she ever will.
* Kalman frowns sympathetically
* Tristane drinks her beer
(Kalman) How is the investigation being handled?
(Tristane) Well, I guess it's going as well as can be expected, under the circumstances.
* Kalman nods
(Tristane) This Jux Maeda character is a hired gun. He would only work for someone who could pay well, is what I hear.
* Kalman nods
(Tristane) But lots of people we know could pay well.
(Tristane) So that's not too helpful.
* Tristane takes another drink
(Kalman) (what was the name of the other dead guy?)
(Tristane) (which guy?)
(Tristane) (you mean Orain Talavera?)
(Kalman) (yeah)
(Kalman) He is the same person who was used to kill Orain Talavera...
* Tristane nods
(Tristane) I heard that.
(Tristane) I wonder if it's connected.
(Tristane) But I don't know how likely that is.
(Kalman) I don't know either, but I'd like to...
* Tristane shrugs
(Tristane) Sekia was too caught up in the court for her own health, I guess.
(Tristane) But I don't know who she might have crossed.
(Tristane) I have been out of that scene for too long...
* Tristane sighs
(Kalman) I don't either...
(Tristane) And then I wonder...
(Kalman) I wonder, if there is a connection, if this attack is going to be the last or not
(Tristane) Sekia was going to make a run at the throne, you know.
(Tristane) She'd decided to try, anyway.
(Tristane) Maybe someone was just weeding out the competition.
* Tristane says bitterly
(Kalman) hmm
(Kalman) I didn't know that...
(Tristane) Well, some people did. In our House, anyway.
* Kalman nods
(Kalman) There are other people who are known to be potentails, though...
(Tristane) Yes, and better-known ones that my sister...
(Tristane) Jevain and Liuna...
(Tristane) But...
* Kalman waits
(Tristane) Well, there is possibly a problem there.
* Tristane says a bit reluctantly
(Tristane) They're in love.
(Kalman) oh...
(Tristane) And, like stupid fools, neither one wants to risk the other at the Arch.
(Tristane) So it could be that in the end, neither will even be a candidate.
* Kalman nods
(Tristane) Just so they can live their happy lives together...
* Tristane sounds fairly cynical
(Kalman) Not much of a romantic, are you?
* Tristane shrugs
(Tristane) It just seems a silly reason not to go through with it.
(Tristane) Being afraid for yourself is one thing, but being afraid for someone else?
(Tristane) It's their decision.
(Kalman) maybe..I think it would be terrible to see someone you love destroyed by the arch...
* Tristane nods
(Kalman) Certainl, if they both went, it would be guaranteed
(Kalman) (certainly)
* Kalman shrugs
(Tristane) Well, it's true that one would fail. It's not a guarantee they would be destroyed.
(Tristane) Some people go on to live normal lives...
(Tristane) I hear...
(Kalman) I hear some of them really don't, though...
(Tristane) No..
(Kalman) But I don't have any idea about how the arch works.
(Tristane) Some just die outright, and some go mad.
(Tristane) No one really knows how it works...
(Kalman) Maybe the less suitable you would be, the worse you turn out
(Tristane) I've heard that.
(Tristane) Well, probably *someone* knows how it works. But not me!
(Kalman) really? I was just guessing
* Tristane smiles for the first time.
* Kalman grins too then
(Tristane) I've also heard that the less pure of House you are, the worse you turn out.
(Tristane) But I don't know how true that is.
(Kalman) Hmm...
(Kalman) anyway.
(Kalman) I just wanted to see how thinsg were going with your sister, and the investigation...
* Tristane nods
(Tristane) Thanks.
(Kalman) Well, I feel bad that it happened at Ivona's party...
* Tristane shrugs
(Tristane) It wasn't your fault.
(Tristane) Could have happened anywhere.
(Tristane) If it had been somewhere else, there might not have been people around to help her.
(Kalman) that's true, also
(Kalman) that was why I assumed that some kind of poison had been used, actually
(Tristane) Oh?
(Tristane) How do you mean?
(Kalman) Well, otherwise, it would have been very poor planning...
(Kalman) There was bound to be someone there who was capable of healing.
(Tristane) Oh. Yes, I see.
(Kalman) It's hard to kill instantly with a crossbow
* Tristane nods
(Kalman) Is she being watched?
(Tristane) Right now, you mean?
* Kalman nods
(Tristane) Achilas is with her...
(Tristane) And there are other people around too.
(Tristane) Servants, and healers.
* Kalman nods
(Tristane) We make sure there's always someone with her, just in case...
(Kalman) Of course
* Tristane finishes her beer
(Kalman) The idea that there might be any ind of connection betweeen Sekia's attack and Orain's murder still bothers me, though
(Tristane) It bothers me too, of course.
* Kalman frowns
(Kalman) For a couple of reasons, too...
(Tristane) Tell me.
(Kalman) well, it means that the idea that Orain was killed because of the whole Scarlet Sign thing might not be so simple
(Tristane) ...
(Kalman) Did you not know about that?
(Tristane) No, I had heard...
* Kalman nods
(Tristane) But I guess I just assumed it couldn't be that simple ;)
(Kalman) well, exactly
(Kalman) Some people have assumed that, though.
* Tristane nods
(Kalman) I know that Patric Arguelles was pretty much ostracized from that little clique for it
* Tristane nods again
* Kalman frowns, thinking about how davilass blamed Boden for that
(Kalman) . o O (Simple minded Bastard)
(Tristane) What else?
(Tristane) You said there were a couple of reasons...
(Kalman) well, it's all related, really
* Tristane listens
(Kalman) I know that Sekia used to hang around with that group, though
(Julie correct me if I'm wrong?)
(Tristane) (you are not wrong)
* Tristane nods
(Tristane) She did more before she was married, but yes.
(Kalman) I don't know if there are any other connections there, I guess
(Tristane) What do you mean? You mean was she sleeping with any of them?
(Kalman) But, then again, I didn'txactly know that Orain was running sheen houses, either
(Kalman) No, just that it seems to be a pretty tenuous connection
(Tristane) Oh, I see.
* Tristane shrugs
(Kalman) (JUlie, how far apart were the two attacks? I have a hard time keeping track of time in this game, especially lately)
(Tristane) (I'll do up an updated timeline before Monday, I think)
(Tristane) (About a month between the 2)
(Tristane) (Orain was at the end of 3rd, Sekia at the end of 4th)
(Kalman) (okay, thanks)
(Kalman) They seemed to be relatively close together, too, though
* Tristane nods
(Tristane) Maybe there's no connection besides the choice of assassin, though.
(Rumor) (god, I just keep seeing "Tristan")
(Kalman) (*snick*)
(Kalman) mayeb
(Kalman) I wonder how hard he is to contact, though
(Tristane) Maybe whoever killed Orain recommended him to whoever tried to kill my sister.
(Tristane) "He does good work, you should try him"
* Tristane says sarcastically
(Kalman) maybe
(Kalman) I wonder how unreasonable it would be to have some of the other people in that group watched, though...
* Tristane sighs
(Tristane) The guards... they don't usually mess with people of that status.
(Kalman) I know
* Kalman frowns
(Kalman) So much for justice, I guess
* Tristane sighs
(Tristane) Justice comes to everyone... eventually.
(Tristane) Sometimes it's slow, though.
(Kalman) . o O (sometimes sooner is better than later)
(Kalman) True.
(Kalman) So much for the law, then.
* Tristane purses her lips
(Tristane) Some day...
(Kalman) hmm?
* Tristane shakes her head
(Tristane) Nothing.
(Tristane) I should be getting back...
(Tristane) Thanks for coming by, though.
* Kalman nods
(Kalman) Least I could do, really
(Kalman) I might see if there is any other way I can find anything out about this though...
* Tristane gives you a little smile
(Tristane) If you like.
(Kalman) On the very slim chance I find anything, I'll let you know
(Tristane) Thanks.
* Tristane stands to go
* Kalman stands as well, then
* Tristane sort of puts out her hand like she wants to shake, or hug you, or something, but isn't sure what to do.
(Tristane) Thanks
* Tristane says again
* Kalman will give her a little hug, then... brotherly
* Tristane feels tense, but she hugs you back quickly, then leaves
(Tristane) (there we go)
(Kalman) (That was cool)
(Tristane) (yay :)
* Kalman is now known as Elanya
* Tristane is now known as Curtana
