For centuries, since even before the Empire rose, mystics created and guarded the arcane knowledge of the use of fos to perform magic. Now, as fos has become much more scarce and the Empire is a distant memory, the mystics still control, or attempt to control, much of that knowledge. They have mastered the art of maximizing the potential of limited sources of fos and using it effectively, in contrast to their rival manifests, whom they see as reckless and uneducated.

Powers

st level: Reduced dose: The mystic less than the normal dose of fos when casting any spell. At 1st level the reduction is -1, increasing by 1 at every level divisible by 4, with a minimum of 1 dose. This does not affect the amount of fos added for metamagic feats. If the mystic has consumed any fos at all in a given day, she may cast as many 0-level spells as she wishes.

st level: Additionally, at this level the mystic is presumed to be fully literate both in Ombesh as well as in the mystical language in which the tablets of their order are written.

nd level: Arcane tablet: You are able to draw on your experience to make notes, written in the Mystic language on a clay tablet, in which you reflect on improvements to the spell. Select one of the following benefits that apply every time you cast that spell: +1 caster level; +1 save DC; reduce casting time from standard to move action. Every even level above 2nd, you can inscribe a new tablet that provides a benefit to a different spell. Alternately, you can study another mystic’s tablet in person for a full day, to learn a benefit they discovered. You may not apply multiple benefits to the same spell. You may spend a day making notes on a spell from your own prior casting, or studying another tablet, in order to master a new spell or replace an old one, but at no point may you have more spell benefits learned than one-half your level.

th level: Metamagic feat: Any free metamagic feat.

th level: Fos reserve: Any day in which you have consumed fos, you can call upon your reserves to generate a small additional amount of fos in your system, even if you do not have any more to consume. You can generate doses equal to one-half the amount you consumed most recently (round down), once per day, as a full-round action. If you have not consumed fos that day you cannot use this power.

th level: Create magic item: At this level the mystic can create permanent magical items. She receives the feat Craft Magic Item which is used to create any permanent item (rod, staff, wand, ring, weapon, armor, wondrous item). The process of creating a magic item requires large amounts of fos equal to the construction cost divided by 100 (e.g. a 2,000gp item requires 20 doses), in addition to any cost for the item’s construction itself. The mystic consumes 1/10 of the fos in the construction of the item and rolls a magic check as usual to determine any bad effects.

th level: Metamagic feat: Any free metamagic feat.

th level: Spell absorption: The mystic acquires the ability to absorb and hold within herself magical energies directed at her or the area she is in (i.e. she must be a valid target of the spell). Three times per day, as an immediate action, she may roll a magic check (DC 15 + caster’s level + spell level) and if successful, absorbs the spell’s energy so that it dissipates without effect. She absorbs fos equal to half the number of doses used to create the effect originally. This energy can be used or dissipated as desired.

th level: Tap the Universe: Your mastery of fos extends so far that you need not consume fos in order to acquire small amounts of it directly from the source of the universe. Once per day, you may spend a minute in quiet contemplation and energy equal to 5 doses of fos becomes available to you for your use.
