Mother Nais is a young woman, age 21, with brown hair and hazel eyes. A priestess of the Lizard god, she is warm, generous, and quite resourceful in finding ways to help needy newcomers and escaped slaves, having lived in the undercity her whole life. Although she is young, she seems somehow older than her years. She worries about Altheo, and is suffering a crisis of faith, doubting whether the gods are powerful enough to stand against Vrag.
