Background

Galatea Beatrice Klytotekhnes Hestion is the eldest child of Drystan and Irene Klytotekhnes Hestion. Irene is a respected arcane scholar, teaching at several prestigious academies across the Confederacy. Drystan is a cleric of Ioun with an interest in creating magical items, particularly warforged components. Galatea dotes on her younger siblings, Sophia and Owen, who are much younger than her.

Galatea’s mother was teaching in Highmark in 1014 when the Fomorian War broke out. In the chaos and destruction, six-year-old Galatea was severely injured in a building collapse. Her parents managed to get her to stabilizing treatment, and eventually escaped the city by airship. While Galatea survived, the extensive damage she endured and the lengthy time it took to get her to a higher-level healer cost each of her limbs to some degree.

Drystan and Irene, while still contributing to the war effort, spent what free time they had working on helping their injured daughter. Over the course of the war, drawing upon older designs from the Ahkasic conflicts of the prior century, they designed prosthetics which allowed Galatea more autonomy. The pair remained particularly protective of Galatea, whose care had consumed much of their attention for so long.

Given her difficulties, Galatea spent much of her childhood with little social outlet, occupying her time in her mother’s library and her father’s workshop. Private tutors saw to her education, and she proved to be a capable and astute student. She has followed in her father’s footsteps with an interest in artifice, particularly prosthetics like her own. She also harbors a mostly hidden love of dance of all kinds, ever since first seeing the Ballet Divin when she was a child.

Galatea is looking forward to her debut season, something she wasn’t sure she’d be able to have. She is self-effacing and somewhat shy, though eager to dive into this new experience.

Appearance

Galatea is a young human woman of average build and height, healthy but not athletic. She usually keeps her wavy, dark auburn hair up in a bun or tied back with a ribbon. Her eyes are hazel, and she has a generous sprinkling of freckles across her nose and cheekbones. Her dragonmark manifests as an intricate series of interconnected swirls and lines along her spine and shoulders. She dresses mostly conservatively, in cool neutral and gem tones. Due to her childhood injuries, she is missing her left arm and leg; her right arm ends just before her elbow and her right leg just before her knee. She has multiple prostheses for different occasions, but her most commonly-used ones in public have a (magically hardened) white porcelain veneer with a painted blue flower motif.
