+ | ==Summary== | ||
+ | Hildie and Skalla are placed under arrest, but Svald turns into a coyote to escape. Welumque advises the governor against this course of action, but she and Lucas agree to take her letter to the fort. They first take it to Mina so that they can read it in secret, and learn that she will let the people from the fort retreat to the mainland. Meanwhile, Skalla and Hildie discuss their plight, and Svald checks in on them. Skalla advises them to go to Thekla, which she does, and the two of them let Charlotta know and hide at the coffeehouse while Chartlotta goes to tell the Thing. Welumque and Lucas deliver the letter to Naqeeb Zahraoui and tell her what happened with the governor. Afterwards, Lucas contacts Skalla and Hildie using magic - at the end of the conversation, everyone hears the sound of gunfire.

+ | <br><Welumque> Governor Therasdottir, forbearance! I ask you to consider the impact of your actions.
+ | <br><Welumque> If you truly believe that these individuals have committed conspiracy and treason, then I question your judgement on many matters.

+ | <br><Narrator> One of the soldiers clocks Skalla across the face with the butt of her rifle.
+ | <br><Narrator> (Roll me Physique)
+ | <br>* Governor_Therasdottir frowns.

+ | <br><Narrator> (You're still up, but that definitely hurt *a lot*)
+ | <br>* Skalla spits in her (soldier's) face
+ | <br>* Governor_Therasdottir sighs and shakes her head.
+ | <br><Skalla> How can you have any idea what's best for Vinmark
+ | <br><Narrator> More guards will come in to subdue Skalla.
+ | <br><Governor_Therasdottir> I'm not going to argue with a child.
+ | <br><Narrator> The guards will bind Skalla's hands, though they will not do the same to Hildie unless it becomes necessary.
+ | <br><Hildie> I apologize for my cousin.
+ | <br><Hildie> She doesn't understand that one cannot reason with cowards or tyrants.
+ | <br><Governor_Therasdottir> As I recall your history, you managed a single engagement before conveniently being too injured to continue a military career. I would hesitate before levelling the charge of cowardice if I were you. Take them out of here.
+ | <br><Hildie> I saw more glory in ten minutes than you will in your life.
+ | <br><Narrator> The guards will move/drag you both out of the room, out the back of the meeting house.
+ | <br>* Hildie will go with the guards.
+ | <br><Narrator> (Roll me Stealth, Svald)
+ | <br><Svald> (can I add the +2 again?)
+ | <br><Governor_Therasdottir> (to Welumque (and presumably Lucas)) Apologies for that.
+ | <br><Welumque> Once again, Governor, I stand against this action. You mistake boldness for treason in an environment where your own people are drawn unwillingly into this conflict. You yourself sent me to Talat Kabira, knowing that was likely the case.
+ | <br><Welumque> I appreciate that your situation is grave right now.
+ | <br><Narrator> (Yes, that'll work)
+ | <br><Svald> !roll 4d3-4
+ | <br>* Lan-werk rolls for Svald: [ 4d3-4 ] getting [ 3 3 3 1 ] for a total of [ 10 ] which, after the modifier [ -4 ] totals [ 6 ].
+ | <br><Narrator> (Yes, you can shift out of sight of your pursuers and double back in another form.)
+ | <br><Welumque> You need loyalty, and expect it. But I suggest that loyalty's forms are different than you imagine, and holding those who would stand with you, will not ultimately serve your higher purpose.
+ | <br><Governor_Therasdottir> I appreciate your position, and I will take it under advisement, but this is an internal matter.
+ | <br><Governor_Therasdottir> Are you still willing to deliver my message to the naqeeb at Alhusan al-Aswad?
+ | <br><Welumque> Respectfully, Governor, it is no longer internal when your people are under attack.
+ | <br><Welumque> I will deliver the message, because I said that I would, and I am a woman of her word.
+ | <br><Governor_Therasdottir> Thank you.
+ | <br><Welumque> But understand this - I firmly believe that in everything I, and my friends, have been doing, we have been working *for<br>* your interests. Or at least, for the interests of the larger peace.
+ | <br><Welumque> When we escaped from Talat Kabira, we were expressly defying the laws of your ally, the emira. Is that also conspiracy? Is that treason?
+ | <br><Governor_Therasdottir> It was...a gray area. The issue becomes much more black and white once shots are fired, I fear.
+ | <br><Welumque> I am afraid, governor, that black and white have been overtaken by red in this land, and that those who fired the first shots must bear responsibility for what comes next.
+ | <br><Welumque> If you truly believe my friends were the first to shed blood in this matter, you are wrong.
+ | <br><Governor_Therasdottir> You are welcome to testify at their trial. For now, we are done here.
+ | <br><Welumque> I will pray for you to find some wisdom to guide you.
+ | <br>* Governor_Therasdottir looks like she might have an answer to that, but says nothing.
+ | <br><Welumque> (can I use my Five Minute Friends power here? The text is: "For a fate point, you can make a steadfast friend in a place you’ve never been, given a chance for five minutes of conversation. This stunt makes nearly impossible opportunities to make friends merely improbable, improbable opportunities probable, and probable opportunities outright certain.")
+ | <br><Welumque> (I'm not really sure whether this is a 'place I've never been', or what that actually entails)
+ | <br><Narrator> (Who are you trying to make a friend?)
+ | <br><Welumque> (the Governor)
+ | <br><Welumque> (it has to be the person I was actually talking to, that is clear. I mean, maybe she is already my friend? I don't think so though!)
+ | <br><Narrator> (I think that power is more for people you've never met before, and you have met the Governor. I'll still let you roll Rapport, though)
+ | <br><Welumque> (fair)
+ | <br><Welumque> !roll 4d3-5
+ | <br>* Lan-werk rolls for Welumque: [ 4d3-5 ] getting [ 1 1 3 1 ] for a total of [ 6 ] which, after the modifier [ -5 ] totals [ 1 ].
+ | <br><Welumque> (enh, it'll do I guess)
+ | <br><Narrator> (Any Aspects to invoke or anything?)
+ | <br><Welumque> (uhh, maybe Tolerates Different Strokes? )
+ | <br><Narrator> (Heh, okay, I'll allow it)
+ | <br><Welumque> (so that just gives me a +2 then?)
+ | <br><Narrator> (Yeah)
+ | <br><Narrator> You get the sense that the Governor is troubled, but she has a stubborn set to her jaw as you leave.
+ | |||
+ | ===Svald checks in with Skalla and Hildie in the brig===
+ | <br><Narrator> Hildie and Skalla will be taken out the back of the meeting hall and are currently being marched to the docks, escorted by a half dozen guards.
+ | <br><Svald> (the docks? D:)
+ | <br>* Svald will follow as best they can.
+ | <br><Narrator> (Fastning Irena (the fort, not the town you all live in) is on a small island offshore)
+ | <br><Svald> (oh ok right. for a sec I was afraid they were being sent back to Stordam D:)
+ | <br><Narrator> The guards will get Hildie and Skalla in a rowboat and head out to the fort.
+ | <br>* Hildie looks over at Skalla's bleeding face and sighs.
+ | <br><Svald> (are all 6 guards in the boat?)
+ | <br><Hildie> Skalla, there's a time for heroic stands. That was not it.
+ | <br><Narrator> (They are, yes)
+ | <br>* Svald hoots sadly
+ | <br>* Svald stays on the lookout for some kind of opportunity that is looking less and less likely :<br><
+ | <br><Narrator> It takes a little bit to row out to the fort. The soldiers are quiet, and look perhaps a bit nervous. They'll haul Skalla and Hildie up onto the dock when they arrive, and march them to the fort's brig.
+ | <br><Svald> (well... nuts)
+ | <br><Narrator> Said brig is a small wooden building with a guard stationed outside. It has two windows, high up, both barred.
+ | <br><Narrator> (Though Svald could definitely turn into something that could get through said bars.)
+ | <br><Svald> (I will perch up there and see what I can see)
+ | <br>* Hildie will go in without any problem.
+ | <br><Narrator> The brig has two pairs of bunk beds, a bucket, and that's about it.
+ | <br><Svald> (so do they just get shoved inside and left? with one guard outside?
+ | <br><Narrator> Yeah, though there's soldiers around in general, just one is tasked with watching them.
+ | <br><Svald> (and how far apart are these bars?)
+ | <br>* Soldier (webchat@68-235-164-162.gvec.net) has joined #thirteen02
+ | <br>* Svald hoots softly from the window
+ | <br><Soldier> Do I need to send for the doctor?
+ | <br>* Soldier says through the door.
+ | <br><Skalla> fuck off
+ | <br><Hildie> She's had worse.
+ | <br>* Soldier nods, shrugs, and steps back.
+ | <br><Narrator> (Not that y'all can see that)
+ | <br><Svald> (hoot) | ||
+ | <br>* Hildie looks up to the window.
+ | <br>* Svald is a barred owl, sitting in the window
+ | <br>* Skalla looks up also, wincing
+ | <br>* Svald ruffles their feathers and hoots again
+ | <br><Skalla> ...svald?
+ | <br>* Svald hoots again
+ | <br><Skalla> ...good
+ | <br><Svald> . o O ( Tell me what to dooo ;_; )
+ | <br>* Skalla will throw herself ont one of the lower bunks for a moment
+ | <br>* Hildie will sit on the other.
+ | <br><Skalla> let me think
+ | <br><Hildie> You do that. I'm gonna get some sleep. It has been one hell of a day.
+ | <br><Skalla> Svald can you tell my aunt that's happened? And Thekla?
+ | <br><Skalla> Thekla first - if we were see, she and the others may also be in danger
+ | <br><Skalla> (seen) | ||
+ | <br>* Svald hoots affirmatively
+ | <br><Skalla> thank you
+ | <br>* Svald tilts their head to one side, wondering if there is anything else?
+ | <br><Svald> (If not I will fly off to try and find Thekla)
+ | <br><Skalla> that's all for now
+ | <br>* Svald hoots again and takes off.
+ | <br>* Hildie lays back on the bed.
+ | <br><Narrator> (Where are you looking for Thekla?)
+ | <br><Svald> (uh... idk. her house? :x)
+ | <br><Narrator> (Okay, I'mma move over to gnomeland for Svald's stuff, so Skalla and Hildie can talk in here if they want)
+ | <br><Skalla> eugh | ||
+ | <br>* Skalla pokes at her face
+ | <br><Hildie> That's gonna hurt tomorrow.
+ | <br><Skalla> not great now. I'll live
+ | <br><Hildie> That kinda depends on our friends, doesn't it?
+ | <br><Skalla> I'm not worried yet.
+ | <br><Skalla> I'd rather be sure Thekla and the others are safe, nd figure out who told the governor
+ | <br><Hildie> It wasn't necessarily any of ours.
+ | <br><Skalla> I know | ||
+ | <br><Skalla> but its better to be sure
+ | <br><Hildie> Mmm. | ||
+ | <br><Skalla> I'm not going to admit to anything
+ | <br><Skalla> and you....
+ | <br>* Skalla looks at her cousin
+ | <br>* Hildie turns her head to look at her also.
+ | <br><Skalla> what are you going to do?
+ | <br><Hildie> We don't have to admit to anything. Welumque kind of did that already while we were leaving. But it doesn't really matter anyway.
+ | <br><Hildie> I'm going to keep my eyes open and my mouth shut.
+ | <br><Hildie> At least until the time comes.
+ | <br>* Soldier is now known as Thekla
+ | <br><Skalla> okay. | ||
+ | <br><Hildie> You know, if they don't kill us, your mom will.
+ | <br><Skalla> hah. I''ll deal with that
+ | <br><Skalla> she and Charlotta may be at least abt to get us out here temporarily
+ | <br><Hildie> I don't think even they can get us out of here if the Governor doesn't want us out.
+ | <br><Skalla> pfft | ||
+ | <br><Skalla> you've met my aunt
+ | <br><Hildie> If they can't and we do go to trial, it will probably be public.
+ | <br><Hildie> You're a pretty good talker. We'd at least have a forum.
+ | <br><Skalla> hah | ||
+ | <br><Skalla> we'll see. I'm not really planning to be here that long
+ | <br><Hildie> Might want to start Polishing your metaphors, just in case.
+ | <br><Skalla> mmm, maybe
+ | <br><Hildie> Get some sleep. Nothing else we can do right now unless you have a bag of gunpowder stashed somewhere I don't know about.
+ | <br><Skalla> sadly no.
+ | <br><Hildie> I wouldn't put it past you.
+ | <br><Skalla> hah | ||
+ | <br><Skalla> (did we get searched?)
+ | <br><Narrator> (Not really)
+ | <br><Narrator> (Kind of perfunctorily, but not thorough)
+ | <br><Skalla> (ysh. she might hav had like a powderhorn but not hidden. she might have a knife stashed though, yeah, I'll spend a fate point for that :V)
+ | <br><Skalla> no powder, but I do have this
+ | <br>* Hildie looks over.
+ | <br>* Skalla pull out a knife
+ | <br><Skalla> (from a leg sheaf say)
+ | <br><Hildie> You gonna take on the fort with a dagger?
+ | <br>* Skalla twirls it and then puts it away
+ | <br><Skalla> if I have to. Hopefully not.
+ | <br><Hildie> Ha | ||
+ | <br><Hildie> You really need to learn to pick your battles better.
+ | <br><Skalla> maybe you just need to have more faith in me :V
+ | <br><Hildie> Skalla, I do trust you. But of the two of us, I'm the one not bleeding.
+ | <br><Skalla> I'm fine. I'm just sick of behaving :p
+ | <br><Hildie> Oh, did you start doing that at some point?
+ | <br>* Hildie says with a grin.
+ | <br><Skalla> heh | ||
+ | <br><Hildie> You were right about the fight. It was the right thing to do. And... even if we end up swinging, I'll know that I did at least one useful thing.
+ | <br><Skalla> we won't
+ | <br><Skalla> people won't stand for it, and I'm not going to let them.
+ | <br>* Hildie looks at you again.
+ | <br><Skalla> Svald will get us out, if nothing else
+ | <br><Hildie> I believe you.
+ | <br><Skalla> good enough, then
+ | <br><Hildie> Now shut up and go to sleep.
+ | |||
+ | ===Welumque and Lucas take the letter to Mina before delivering it to Naqeeb Zahraoui===
+ | <br>* Welumque will head off and consult with Lucas on their way to, I guess, deliver this letter.
+ | <br><Welumque> Well, that was unexpected.
+ | <br><Lucas> Mm... | ||
+ | <br><Welumque> I do not know if there was anything I could have done for them.
+ | <br><Lucas> At least Svald got away.
+ | <br><Welumque> Yes. It would have been difficult, in any case - the governor doesn't even know who Svald is.
+ | <br><Welumque> Hildie and Skalla, though, are both known to her, with political and kin ties. I do not agree with her decision, but I can see how she sees value in showing to the Thing that this sort of action will not be tolerated.
+ | <br><Welumque> She risks the whole of her own garrison rising up.
+ | <br><Lucas> Won't Skalla's family be angry about it?
+ | <br><Welumque> Furious. And the governor knows that.
+ | <br><Welumque> For all we know, she doesn't intend to actually try them. Just ... hold them, until this matter is ended.
+ | <br>* NPC2 is now known as Soldier
+ | <br><Lucas> that might be longer than they expect...
+ | <br><Welumque> Yes, rather. Now the question I want to know is, do we have a good way to find out the contents of this letter before we take it to the naqeeb?
+ | <br><Lucas> (how is the letter sealed/closed?)
+ | <br><Narrator> (It has a wax seal)
+ | <br><Lucas> If we try to tamper with it, they'll probably know.
+ | <br><Welumque> Indeed.
+ | <br><Narrator> (You know, we can make use of a former PC here. Y'all do know someone who might be able to open this and reseal it with no one the wiser.)
+ | <br><Welumque> Perhaps best not to do so, then.
+ | <br><Lucas> well, someone else might be able to open it unobtrusively.
+ | <br><Welumque> How do you mean?
+ | <br><Lucas> someone with more... surreptitious skills >.>
+ | <br><Welumque> Hmm, someone like Mina? I don't even know where she would be found these days.
+ | <br><Narrator> (Roll Contacts?)
+ | <br><Welumque> !roll 4d3-4
+ | <br>* Lan-werk rolls for Welumque: [ 4d3-4 ] getting [ 3 1 1 2 ] for a total of [ 7 ] which, after the modifier [ -4 ] totals [ 3 ].
+ | <br><Narrator> There's a tavern/inn on the docks she usually stays at. It's not too far, and seems like a good place to look.
+ | <br><Welumque> (all right, a brief detour then)
+ | <br><Narrator> Y'all can find Mina relatively sober, and willing to help with the letter.
+ | <br><Welumque> Mina, we would not ask if it were not important, but we do, rather urgently, need to know what is in this letter before we deliver it, apparently undisturbed, to the recipient.
+ | <br>* NPC3 is now known as Mina
+ | <br><Mina> This have something to do with the battle this morning, or the big meeting?
+ | <br>* Welumque nods. | ||
+ | <br><Welumque> I'm afraid so. Both, really.
+ | <br>* Mina sighs. | ||
+ | <br><Mina> Bad business all around.
+ | <br><Mina> I can help you out, though.
+ | <br>* Mina will take the letter and can get to work on the seal. It shouldn't take her too long, even being particularly careful.
+ | <br><Narrator> The governor's proposal to the commander at Alhusan al-Aswad would allow for the Black Guard forces to evacuate the island and head to the mainland, with Vinmark's forces leaving the Guard and the Khalijani forces to themselves.
+ | <br><Welumque> Hmmm ... so basically, trying to maintain some sort of neutrality? I don't understand this.
+ | <br><Welumque> I wish Skalla were here, she understands the situation from Vinmark's perspective so much better than I do.
+ | <br><Lucas> so... we can take it to her?
+ | <br><Welumque> I mean, we really must do so. If we don't, the Governor will find out.
+ | <br>* Lucas nods | ||
+ | <br>* Soldier is now known as Thekla
+ | <br><Welumque> Thank you, Mina. Obviously, this meeting never happened.
+ | <br><Mina> Most of my meetings never do.
+ | <br><Lucas> yes, thank you.
+ | <br><Mina> Good luck with...whatever you're doing.
+ | <br><Welumque> Drop by the house if you ever need anything.
+ | <br>* Mina nods. | ||
+ | <br><Mina> Will do. And I'm usually here if, you know, same.
+ | <br>* Welumque takes Lucas and heads off to deliver the message, then.
+ | <br><Narrator> For the second time tonight, you can make your way over to Alhusan al-Aswad. They recognize you by this point, and they can take you in to see Naqeeb Zahraoui quickly.
+ | <br><Welumque> Naqeeb Zahraoui, once again we are honoured to be with you.
+ | <br><Welumque> I come directly from my meeting with Governor Therasdottir.
+ | <br>* Governor_Therasdottir is now known as Zahraoui
+ | <br><Zahraoui> Yes, we are honored to have you.
+ | <br>* Zahraoui says quickly.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> That was...fast.
+ | <br><Welumque> I come with a letter for you from the Governor.
+ | <br>* Welumque passes it over.
+ | <br>* Zahraoui will take the letter.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> Did she give you any indication how she was leaning?
+ | <br>* Zahraoui opens the letter.
+ | <br><Welumque> She is under a lot of stress, that is for certain.
+ | <br>* Welumque tries to judge the naqeeb's reaction.
+ | <br><Welumque> (to the contents of the letter)
+ | <br>* Zahraoui frowns, reading.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> This is...not unreasonable.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> But it would mean abandoning our stronghold here.
+ | <br><Welumque> What does it say?
+ | <br><Zahraoui> She wants us to leave Sisawinak, peacefully. That's the main thrust of it, other than she wouldn't interfere with us on the mainland.
+ | <br><Welumque> To try to maintain neutrality, while perhaps consolidating her own position here on Sisawinak?
+ | <br>* Zahraoui nods. | ||
+ | <br><Zahraoui> That would be my thought.
+ | <br><Welumque> Hmmm.
+ | <br><Welumque> It is worth considering. But it carries risks, on both sides.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> Yes, I have concerns.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> Not least is that we'd lose significant bargaining power abandoning Sisawinak.
+ | <br><Welumque> I can see that.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> Emira al-Amwad is...not much of a factor at the moment. Right now, it's what our 'allies' will do that most concerns me.
+ | <br><Welumque> And it says nothing about what she would do if you refuse?
+ | <br><Zahraoui> I think leaving that vague it meant to motivate us to take her offer.
+ | <br><Welumque> An astute observation.
+ | <br>* Mina is now known as Charlotta
+ | <br>* Zahraoui shakes her head.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> Why did the others not return with you?
+ | <br>* Welumque considers what to say.
+ | <br><Welumque> There has been a misunderstanding, I'm afraid.
+ | <br><Welumque> The Governor has seen fit to detain Skalla and Hildegard for the time being
+ | <br>* Zahraoui frowns deeply.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> Has she charged them with anything?
+ | <br><Welumque> I believe she indicated the charges would be conspiracy and treason. I don't know their legal system well enough to know what that means, but of course it is not good.
+ | <br>* Zahraoui nods. | ||
+ | <br><Zahraoui> I can't say for sure, but my assumption would be that either carries a death sentence.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> I...am once again put into a difficult position.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> I don't feel we can just abandon our *actual<br>* allies.
+ | <br><Welumque> To take any action to free them directly would be seen as a violation of whatever terms the Governor is proposing.
+ | <br><Welumque> But it might be possible to provide indirect support, something that would not be understood in those terms.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> Did you have something in mind?
+ | <br><Welumque> Not yet. I'm thinking out loud here.
+ | <br><Welumque> I do wonder whether this is just a show on the part of the governor, to hold them and charge them, just to prevent any further assistance from her people.
+ | <br><Welumque> Without any real effort to move this to trial right away, due to the very public nature of such a thing.
+ | <br><Welumque> But if I'm wrong, then our priority ought to be to get them out of prison.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> Unfortunately, we can't know if it's the former without simply waiting, and that may prove a poor choice in the long term.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> Is there any way to get word to them?
+ | <br>* Lucas looks to Welumque
+ | <br><Welumque> Yes, I think there is.
+ | <br><Welumque> What message would you have me convey?
+ | <br><Zahraoui> That they have the thanks and support of the Black Guard, and we will not abandon them.
+ | <br><Welumque> I will do so.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> Thank you. I don't know how we would have navigated all this without your help.
+ | <br><Welumque> You are in an impossible situation, naqeeb. But my people have been in many such situations, over the years, and still we are here.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> Hopefully we can follow your example.
+ | <br><Welumque> Thank you for your time, naqeeb.
+ | <br><Zahraoui> Thank you for yours, [elder].
+ | <br><Zahraoui> (Specifically the Lèxkweyok term of respect that I am blanking on at the moment)
+ | <br>* Welumque and Lucas depart.

+ | <br><Svald> (definitely wild shaped)
+ | <br><Svald> (I'm a fugitive!)
+ | <br><Narrator> The estate is mostly deserted; presumably most of its inhabitants are off at the Thing.

+ | <br><Svald> (is anyone around?)
+ | <br><Svald> (I guess you already said not really)
+ | <br>* Svald taps with their beak on the window of the room where Thekla is.
+ | <br><Narrator> (Just Thekla that you've seen. Maybe a guard or two on the grounds, but not nearby.)
+ | <br>* Thekla (webchat@68-235-164-162.gvec.net) has joined #gnomeland

+ | <br><Narrator> (Is Svald still an owl?)
+ | <br><Svald> (yes) | ||
+ | <br>* Thekla puts down her book and comes over to the window.
+ | <br>* Svald bobs their head up and down excitedly
+ | <br>* Thekla looks confused, but will open the window after a moment.
+ | <br>* Svald flaps into the room and turns into themself.
+ | <br><Svald> Skalla's been arrested!!!
+ | <br>* Svald blurts breathlessly (but not too loudly)
+ | <br><Thekla> Ah! | ||
+ | <br><Thekla> Sorry, I'm not...nevermind. What did you just say?
+ | <br><Svald> They arrested Skalla... and Hildie
+ | <br><Thekla> Who did?
+ | <br><Thekla> When? | ||
+ | <br><Svald> The governor... someone told them we were there, fighting. They got arrested for treason.
+ | <br><Svald> Just now!
+ | <br><Thekla> Wh...you know what, just tell me everything.
+ | <br><Thekla> Treason!?
+ | <br><Thekla> The hell?
+ | <br><Svald> Skalla wanted me to warn you, in case they might come for you too..
+ | <br><Thekla> Where is she right now?
+ | <br><Svald> In the brig, on the island.
+ | <br><Thekla> Fuck. | ||
+ | <br>* Welumque (~Forthrigh@d24-57-67-2.home.cgocable.net) has joined #gnomeland

+ | <br><Svald> ... What are you going to do? :o
+ | <br><Thekla> You said Skalla told you to warn me? Did she say anything else?
+ | <br><Svald> Just that... and to tell her aunt.
+ | <br>* Thekla nods. | ||
+ | <br>* Thekla sighs. | ||
+ | <br><Thekla> Does anyone else know?
+ | <br><Thekla> Maybe I should go to the Thing?
+ | <br><Svald> That's what Skalla did, so... I don't know about that. :x
+ | <br><Svald> I have to go find Charlotta.
+ | <br><Thekla> Isn't she there?
+ | <br><Svald> I... I don't know, maybe?
+ | <br>* Svald is pretty flustered
+ | <br><Svald> I guess she is... Yes, Skalla talked to her.
+ | <br>* Thekla nods. | ||
+ | <br><Thekla> So maybe we should go talk to her?
+ | <br><Svald> ... Yes but... They're after me, too. :x
+ | <br><Thekla> Ah, okay. Hmm. Maybe I can send someone to go get her?
+ | <br><Thekla> We could head to her coffee shop, and have her meet us there?
+ | <br><Svald> That would work...
+ | <br>* Svald nods. | ||
+ | <br><Thekla> It's not too far from the hall.
+ | <br><Svald> I will meet you there... I don't want to walk through town like this.
+ | <br>* Thekla nods. | ||
+ | <br><Thekla> I'll meet you there, then.
+ | <br>* Svald re-owls, hops up to the windowsill, and takes flight.
+ | <br>* Thekla grabs a coat, hat, and scarf and heads out after Svald.
+ | <br>* Thekla will head to Charlotta's, sending someone to retrieve the proprietor from the meeting hall.

+ | <br>* Svald keeps their hood up though. (assassin's Creed style :v)
+ | <br>* Charlotta will meet with Thekla and Svald in her office.
+ | <br><Charlotta> Not that I'm not grateful for the reprieve, but what's this all about?
+ | <br><Svald> So... how much have you heard?
+ | <br><Svald> Not much I guess, then
+ | <br><Svald> They arrested Skalla and Hildie. For treason ;_;
+ | <br><Charlotta> Quite a lot, but not any of what this is...what?!
+ | <br><Charlotta> When? Where are they?
+ | <br><Svald> Just tonight... they took them to the brig, on the island.
+ | <br><Svald> Someone told the Governor we were there, fighting the Emira's troops...
+ | <br><Charlotta> Any idea who?
+ | <br>* Svald shakes their head.
+ | <br><Charlotta> I suppose it doesn't matter just this moment...
+ | <br><Thekla> It matters to me.
+ | <br><Svald> And to Skalla and Hildie I'm sure
+ | <br><Charlotta> I didn't say it didn't matter, just not right now.
+ | <br><Svald> ... Right
+ | <br><Charlotta> Are they all right?
+ | <br><Thekla> They're in *jail*, of course they're not all right!
+ | <br><Svald> Skalla's face got a bit beat up but... mostly.
+ | <br><Svald> Mostly she's mad.
+ | <br><Thekla> ...fuckers.
+ | <br>* Thekla says, re: the beat up bit.
+ | <br><Charlotta> I would imagine she's furious, as am I.
+ | <br><Svald> Welumque and Lucas were with them, but they let them go.
+ | <br><Charlotta> Right. I suppose arresting Welumque would be a diplomatic incident.
+ | <br>* Svald nods. | ||
+ | <br><Svald> (m) I'm glad they didn't arrest Lucas ;_;
+ | <br><Charlotta> Well, *I'm* not under arrest, so I can take this to the Thing. People need to know.
+ | <br><Svald> Oh, thank you.

+ | <br><Charlotta> Svald, Thekla, you are welcome to stay here for the time being, just to be safe.

+ | <br><Charlotta> There will be time for action soon, I'm sure, but, for now, bide your time.

+ | <br><Svald> I'm glad I could be... useful. -_-
+ | <br><Charlotta> Svald, child, you've done quite a lot, and you have my thanks.
+ | <br>* Svald looks like they don't know how to respond to that.
+ | <br><Svald> It was... well. Um. You're welcome...?
+ | <br><Svald> I just want to get Skalla out ;_;
+ | <br><Charlotta> As do we all. Sit, I'll have some tea and food brought in.
+ | <br>* Charlotta nods to Svald and Thekla and heads out.

+ | <br>* Thekla says after a beat.
+ | <br><Thekla> I hate just sitting here.

+ | <br><Svald> Oh... yes.
+ | <br><Thekla> Sorry, I didn't mean to...sorry.
+ | <br><Thekla> I just...I got them into this mess, because I don't like doing nothing.
+ | <br><Svald> Oh no. | ||
+ | <br><Svald> Neither does Skalla.
+ | <br>* Thekla smiles. | ||
+ | <br><Thekla> I know. That's what I like about her.
+ | <br>* Svald smiles back.
+ | <br><Svald> (do you LIKE like her??)

+ | <br><Lucas> (well, I think I would like to try to manifest to them in jail. I'm not sure if like... trying to astral project there, or talk to them in a dream, or what, is most plausible.)
+ | <br><Narrator> (I think either is possible. Dream is easier but might be confusing or muddled, projecting is more difficult but clearer.)

+ | <br>* Hildie will open her eyes and sit up.

Summary
Hildie and Skalla are placed under arrest, but Svald turns into a coyote to escape.
Session
- Session date: 2023-04-09
- In Game date: following on directly from the previous session
Svald escapes, but Skalla and HIldie are taken into custody. Welumque advises the govenor against it
<Narrator> When last we left off, I believe several of our PCs were being arrested. ;)
<Svald> (so no chance I can book it as an animal of some kind?)
<Narrator> (Hmm. You can roll...Athletics, I guess?)
<Narrator> (Though I'm open to suggestions)
<Svald> (can I get a + 2 for aspect of the wild)
<Narrator> (Yeah, that works for me)
<Svald> !roll 4d3-5
* Lan-werk rolls for Svald: [ 4d3-5 ] getting [ 3 3 2 3 ] for a total of [ 11 ] which, after the modifier [ -5 ] totals [ 6 ].
<Narrator> (What are you turning into, Svald?)
<Svald> (I think coyote is my speediest most agile option, util I can get outside)
<Skalla> Hey - we're acting in the interest of keeping peace here
<Narrator> Svald turns into a coyote and books it out the door, into the hallway.
* Hildie will sigh and watch Coyote!Svald book it out the door.
* Governor_Therasdottir (webchat@68-235-164-162.gvec.net) has joined #thirteen
<Svald> yip! yip!
* Skalla frowns and glares at the guards
<Governor_Therasdottir> After them!
* Hildie holds out her wrists.
* Svald hopes that conveys "I will figure something out!"
<Narrator> Two of the guards rush out after Svald.
<Skalla> pfft
<Skalla> Hildie they shouldn't be arresting *you*. or Svald.
<Welumque> Governor Therasdottir, forbearance! I ask you to consider the impact of your actions.
<Welumque> If you truly believe that these individuals have committed conspiracy and treason, then I question your judgement on many matters.
<Governor_Therasdottir> I would have asked the same consideration before these three took it into their hands to declare war on our allies.
<Skalla> No one has declared anything here.
<Governor_Therasdottir> I have multiple witnesses placing you at the battle this morning, firing on Khalijani troops.
<Skalla> what?
<Narrator> The soldiers close to take Hildie and Skalla in custody.
<Skalla> Ridiculous >:|
* Hildie will stay silent and stare at the governor as they do.
* Skalla will not make that easy for them
<Skalla> Bunch of cowards
<Narrator> (Are you actually trying to fight them?)
* NPC2 (webchat@68-235-164-162.gvec.net) has joined #thirteen
<Hildie> Skalla... stop.
* NPC3 (webchat@68-235-164-162.gvec.net) has joined #thirteen
<Skalla> no!
<Skalla> (Yes, but I don't think I'm armed so idk how that is going to work out :V)
<Hildie> You are not helping.
* Hildie does not look away from the governor.
<Narrator> (They very much are, so...)
<Skalla> (Yeah that's fair, I'm nt expecting to win here ;)
<Narrator> One of the soldiers clocks Skalla across the face with the butt of her rifle.
<Narrator> (Roll me Physique)
* Governor_Therasdottir frowns.
* Skalla rolls [ 4d3-5 ] getting [ 2 2 3 3 ] for a total of [ 10 ] which, after the modifier [ -5 ] totals [ 5 ]
<Narrator> (You're still up, but that definitely hurt *a lot*)
* Skalla spits in her (soldier's) face
* Governor_Therasdottir sighs and shakes her head.
<Skalla> How can you have any idea what's best for Vinmark
<Narrator> More guards will come in to subdue Skalla.
<Governor_Therasdottir> I'm not going to argue with a child.
<Narrator> The guards will bind Skalla's hands, though they will not do the same to Hildie unless it becomes necessary.
<Hildie> I apologize for my cousin.
<Hildie> She doesn't understand that one cannot reason with cowards or tyrants.
<Governor_Therasdottir> As I recall your history, you managed a single engagement before conveniently being too injured to continue a military career. I would hesitate before levelling the charge of cowardice if I were you. Take them out of here.
<Hildie> I saw more glory in ten minutes than you will in your life.
<Narrator> The guards will move/drag you both out of the room, out the back of the meeting house.
* Hildie will go with the guards.
<Narrator> (Roll me Stealth, Svald)
<Svald> (can I add the +2 again?)
<Governor_Therasdottir> (to Welumque (and presumably Lucas)) Apologies for that.
<Welumque> Once again, Governor, I stand against this action. You mistake boldness for treason in an environment where your own people are drawn unwillingly into this conflict. You yourself sent me to Talat Kabira, knowing that was likely the case.
<Welumque> I appreciate that your situation is grave right now.
<Narrator> (Yes, that'll work)
<Svald> !roll 4d3-4
* Lan-werk rolls for Svald: [ 4d3-4 ] getting [ 3 3 3 1 ] for a total of [ 10 ] which, after the modifier [ -4 ] totals [ 6 ].
<Narrator> (Yes, you can shift out of sight of your pursuers and double back in another form.)
<Welumque> You need loyalty, and expect it. But I suggest that loyalty's forms are different than you imagine, and holding those who would stand with you, will not ultimately serve your higher purpose.
<Governor_Therasdottir> I appreciate your position, and I will take it under advisement, but this is an internal matter.
<Governor_Therasdottir> Are you still willing to deliver my message to the naqeeb at Alhusan al-Aswad?
<Welumque> Respectfully, Governor, it is no longer internal when your people are under attack.
<Welumque> I will deliver the message, because I said that I would, and I am a woman of her word.
<Governor_Therasdottir> Thank you.
<Welumque> But understand this - I firmly believe that in everything I, and my friends, have been doing, we have been working *for
* your interests. Or at least, for the interests of the larger peace.
<Welumque> When we escaped from Talat Kabira, we were expressly defying the laws of your ally, the emira. Is that also conspiracy? Is that treason?
<Governor_Therasdottir> It was...a gray area. The issue becomes much more black and white once shots are fired, I fear.
<Welumque> I am afraid, governor, that black and white have been overtaken by red in this land, and that those who fired the first shots must bear responsibility for what comes next.
<Welumque> If you truly believe my friends were the first to shed blood in this matter, you are wrong.
<Governor_Therasdottir> You are welcome to testify at their trial. For now, we are done here.
<Welumque> I will pray for you to find some wisdom to guide you.
* Governor_Therasdottir looks like she might have an answer to that, but says nothing.
<Welumque> (can I use my Five Minute Friends power here? The text is: "For a fate point, you can make a steadfast friend in a place you’ve never been, given a chance for five minutes of conversation. This stunt makes nearly impossible opportunities to make friends merely improbable, improbable opportunities probable, and probable opportunities outright certain.")
<Welumque> (I'm not really sure whether this is a 'place I've never been', or what that actually entails)
<Narrator> (Who are you trying to make a friend?)
<Welumque> (the Governor)
<Welumque> (it has to be the person I was actually talking to, that is clear. I mean, maybe she is already my friend? I don't think so though!)
<Narrator> (I think that power is more for people you've never met before, and you have met the Governor. I'll still let you roll Rapport, though)
<Welumque> (fair)
<Welumque> !roll 4d3-5
* Lan-werk rolls for Welumque: [ 4d3-5 ] getting [ 1 1 3 1 ] for a total of [ 6 ] which, after the modifier [ -5 ] totals [ 1 ].
<Welumque> (enh, it'll do I guess)
<Narrator> (Any Aspects to invoke or anything?)
<Welumque> (uhh, maybe Tolerates Different Strokes? )
<Narrator> (Heh, okay, I'll allow it)
<Welumque> (so that just gives me a +2 then?)
<Narrator> (Yeah)
<Narrator> You get the sense that the Governor is troubled, but she has a stubborn set to her jaw as you leave.
Svald checks in with Skalla and Hildie in the brig
<Narrator> Hildie and Skalla will be taken out the back of the meeting hall and are currently being marched to the docks, escorted by a half dozen guards.
<Svald> (the docks? D:)
* Svald will follow as best they can.
<Narrator> (Fastning Irena (the fort, not the town you all live in) is on a small island offshore)
<Svald> (oh ok right. for a sec I was afraid they were being sent back to Stordam D:)
<Narrator> The guards will get Hildie and Skalla in a rowboat and head out to the fort.
* Hildie looks over at Skalla's bleeding face and sighs.
<Svald> (are all 6 guards in the boat?)
<Hildie> Skalla, there's a time for heroic stands. That was not it.
<Narrator> (They are, yes)
* Svald hoots sadly
* Svald stays on the lookout for some kind of opportunity that is looking less and less likely :
<
<Narrator> It takes a little bit to row out to the fort. The soldiers are quiet, and look perhaps a bit nervous. They'll haul Skalla and Hildie up onto the dock when they arrive, and march them to the fort's brig.
<Svald> (well... nuts)
<Narrator> Said brig is a small wooden building with a guard stationed outside. It has two windows, high up, both barred.
<Narrator> (Though Svald could definitely turn into something that could get through said bars.)
<Svald> (I will perch up there and see what I can see)
* Hildie will go in without any problem.
<Narrator> The brig has two pairs of bunk beds, a bucket, and that's about it.
<Svald> (so do they just get shoved inside and left? with one guard outside?
<Narrator> Yeah, though there's soldiers around in general, just one is tasked with watching them.
<Svald> (and how far apart are these bars?)
* Soldier (webchat@68-235-164-162.gvec.net) has joined #thirteen02
* Svald hoots softly from the window
<Soldier> Do I need to send for the doctor?
* Soldier says through the door.
<Skalla> fuck off
<Hildie> She's had worse.
* Soldier nods, shrugs, and steps back.
<Narrator> (Not that y'all can see that)
<Svald> (hoot)
* Hildie looks up to the window.
* Svald is a barred owl, sitting in the window
* Skalla looks up also, wincing
* Svald ruffles their feathers and hoots again
<Skalla> ...svald?
* Svald hoots again
<Skalla> ...good
<Svald> . o O ( Tell me what to dooo ;_; )
* Skalla will throw herself ont one of the lower bunks for a moment
* Hildie will sit on the other.
<Skalla> let me think
<Hildie> You do that. I'm gonna get some sleep. It has been one hell of a day.
<Skalla> Svald can you tell my aunt that's happened? And Thekla?
<Skalla> Thekla first - if we were see, she and the others may also be in danger
<Skalla> (seen)
* Svald hoots affirmatively
<Skalla> thank you
* Svald tilts their head to one side, wondering if there is anything else?
<Svald> (If not I will fly off to try and find Thekla)
<Skalla> that's all for now
* Svald hoots again and takes off.
* Hildie lays back on the bed.
<Narrator> (Where are you looking for Thekla?)
<Svald> (uh... idk. her house? :x)
<Narrator> (Okay, I'mma move over to gnomeland for Svald's stuff, so Skalla and Hildie can talk in here if they want)
<Skalla> eugh
* Skalla pokes at her face
<Hildie> That's gonna hurt tomorrow.
<Skalla> not great now. I'll live
<Hildie> That kinda depends on our friends, doesn't it?
<Skalla> I'm not worried yet.
<Skalla> I'd rather be sure Thekla and the others are safe, nd figure out who told the governor
<Hildie> It wasn't necessarily any of ours.
<Skalla> I know
<Skalla> but its better to be sure
<Hildie> Mmm.
<Skalla> I'm not going to admit to anything
<Skalla> and you....
* Skalla looks at her cousin
* Hildie turns her head to look at her also.
<Skalla> what are you going to do?
<Hildie> We don't have to admit to anything. Welumque kind of did that already while we were leaving. But it doesn't really matter anyway.
<Hildie> I'm going to keep my eyes open and my mouth shut.
<Hildie> At least until the time comes.
* Soldier is now known as Thekla
<Skalla> okay.
<Hildie> You know, if they don't kill us, your mom will.
<Skalla> hah. Ill deal with that
<Skalla> she and Charlotta may be at least abt to get us out here temporarily
<Hildie> I don't think even they can get us out of here if the Governor doesn't want us out.
<Skalla> pfft
<Skalla> you've met my aunt
<Hildie> If they can't and we do go to trial, it will probably be public.
<Hildie> You're a pretty good talker. We'd at least have a forum.
<Skalla> hah
<Skalla> we'll see. I'm not really planning to be here that long
<Hildie> Might want to start Polishing your metaphors, just in case.
<Skalla> mmm, maybe
<Hildie> Get some sleep. Nothing else we can do right now unless you have a bag of gunpowder stashed somewhere I don't know about.
<Skalla> sadly no.
<Hildie> I wouldn't put it past you.
<Skalla> hah
<Skalla> (did we get searched?)
<Narrator> (Not really)
<Narrator> (Kind of perfunctorily, but not thorough)
<Skalla> (ysh. she might hav had like a powderhorn but not hidden. she might have a knife stashed though, yeah, I'll spend a fate point for that :V)
<Skalla> no powder, but I do have this
* Hildie looks over.
* Skalla pull out a knife
<Skalla> (from a leg sheaf say)
<Hildie> You gonna take on the fort with a dagger?
* Skalla twirls it and then puts it away
<Skalla> if I have to. Hopefully not.
<Hildie> Ha
<Hildie> You really need to learn to pick your battles better.
<Skalla> maybe you just need to have more faith in me :V
<Hildie> Skalla, I do trust you. But of the two of us, I'm the one not bleeding.
<Skalla> I'm fine. I'm just sick of behaving :p
<Hildie> Oh, did you start doing that at some point?
* Hildie says with a grin.
<Skalla> heh
<Hildie> You were right about the fight. It was the right thing to do. And... even if we end up swinging, I'll know that I did at least one useful thing.
<Skalla> we won't
<Skalla> people won't stand for it, and I'm not going to let them.
* Hildie looks at you again.
<Skalla> Svald will get us out, if nothing else
<Hildie> I believe you.
<Skalla> good enough, then
<Hildie> Now shut up and go to sleep.
Welumque and Lucas take the letter to Mina before delivering it to Naqeeb Zahraoui
* Welumque will head off and consult with Lucas on their way to, I guess, deliver this letter.
<Welumque> Well, that was unexpected.
<Lucas> Mm...
<Welumque> I do not know if there was anything I could have done for them.
<Lucas> At least Svald got away.
<Welumque> Yes. It would have been difficult, in any case - the governor doesn't even know who Svald is.
<Welumque> Hildie and Skalla, though, are both known to her, with political and kin ties. I do not agree with her decision, but I can see how she sees value in showing to the Thing that this sort of action will not be tolerated.
<Welumque> She risks the whole of her own garrison rising up.
<Lucas> Won't Skalla's family be angry about it?
<Welumque> Furious. And the governor knows that.
<Welumque> For all we know, she doesn't intend to actually try them. Just ... hold them, until this matter is ended.
* NPC2 is now known as Soldier
<Lucas> that might be longer than they expect...
<Welumque> Yes, rather. Now the question I want to know is, do we have a good way to find out the contents of this letter before we take it to the naqeeb?
<Lucas> (how is the letter sealed/closed?)
<Narrator> (It has a wax seal)
<Lucas> If we try to tamper with it, they'll probably know.
<Welumque> Indeed.
<Narrator> (You know, we can make use of a former PC here. Y'all do know someone who might be able to open this and reseal it with no one the wiser.)
<Welumque> Perhaps best not to do so, then.
<Lucas> well, someone else might be able to open it unobtrusively.
<Welumque> How do you mean?
<Lucas> someone with more... surreptitious skills >.>
<Welumque> Hmm, someone like Mina? I don't even know where she would be found these days.
<Narrator> (Roll Contacts?)
<Welumque> !roll 4d3-4
* Lan-werk rolls for Welumque: [ 4d3-4 ] getting [ 3 1 1 2 ] for a total of [ 7 ] which, after the modifier [ -4 ] totals [ 3 ].
<Narrator> There's a tavern/inn on the docks she usually stays at. It's not too far, and seems like a good place to look.
<Welumque> (all right, a brief detour then)
<Narrator> Y'all can find Mina relatively sober, and willing to help with the letter.
<Welumque> Mina, we would not ask if it were not important, but we do, rather urgently, need to know what is in this letter before we deliver it, apparently undisturbed, to the recipient.
* NPC3 is now known as Mina
<Mina> This have something to do with the battle this morning, or the big meeting?
* Welumque nods.
<Welumque> I'm afraid so. Both, really.
* Mina sighs.
<Mina> Bad business all around.
<Mina> I can help you out, though.
* Mina will take the letter and can get to work on the seal. It shouldn't take her too long, even being particularly careful.
<Narrator> The governor's proposal to the commander at Alhusan al-Aswad would allow for the Black Guard forces to evacuate the island and head to the mainland, with Vinmark's forces leaving the Guard and the Khalijani forces to themselves.
<Welumque> Hmmm ... so basically, trying to maintain some sort of neutrality? I don't understand this.
<Welumque> I wish Skalla were here, she understands the situation from Vinmark's perspective so much better than I do.
<Lucas> so... we can take it to her?
<Welumque> I mean, we really must do so. If we don't, the Governor will find out.
* Lucas nods
* Soldier is now known as Thekla
<Welumque> Thank you, Mina. Obviously, this meeting never happened.
<Mina> Most of my meetings never do.
<Lucas> yes, thank you.
<Mina> Good luck with...whatever you're doing.
<Welumque> Drop by the house if you ever need anything.
* Mina nods.
<Mina> Will do. And I'm usually here if, you know, same.
* Welumque takes Lucas and heads off to deliver the message, then.
<Narrator> For the second time tonight, you can make your way over to Alhusan al-Aswad. They recognize you by this point, and they can take you in to see Naqeeb Zahraoui quickly.
<Welumque> Naqeeb Zahraoui, once again we are honoured to be with you.
<Welumque> I come directly from my meeting with Governor Therasdottir.
* Governor_Therasdottir is now known as Zahraoui
<Zahraoui> Yes, we are honored to have you.
* Zahraoui says quickly.
<Zahraoui> That was...fast.
<Welumque> I come with a letter for you from the Governor.
* Welumque passes it over.
* Zahraoui will take the letter.
<Zahraoui> Did she give you any indication how she was leaning?
* Zahraoui opens the letter.
<Welumque> She is under a lot of stress, that is for certain.
* Welumque tries to judge the naqeeb's reaction.
<Welumque> (to the contents of the letter)
* Zahraoui frowns, reading.
<Zahraoui> This is...not unreasonable.
<Zahraoui> But it would mean abandoning our stronghold here.
<Welumque> What does it say?
<Zahraoui> She wants us to leave Sisawinak, peacefully. That's the main thrust of it, other than she wouldn't interfere with us on the mainland.
<Welumque> To try to maintain neutrality, while perhaps consolidating her own position here on Sisawinak?
* Zahraoui nods.
<Zahraoui> That would be my thought.
<Welumque> Hmmm.
<Welumque> It is worth considering. But it carries risks, on both sides.
<Zahraoui> Yes, I have concerns.
<Zahraoui> Not least is that we'd lose significant bargaining power abandoning Sisawinak.
<Welumque> I can see that.
<Zahraoui> Emira al-Amwad is...not much of a factor at the moment. Right now, it's what our 'allies' will do that most concerns me.
<Welumque> And it says nothing about what she would do if you refuse?
<Zahraoui> I think leaving that vague it meant to motivate us to take her offer.
<Welumque> An astute observation.
* Mina is now known as Charlotta
* Zahraoui shakes her head.
<Zahraoui> Why did the others not return with you?
* Welumque considers what to say.
<Welumque> There has been a misunderstanding, I'm afraid.
<Welumque> The Governor has seen fit to detain Skalla and Hildegard for the time being
* Zahraoui frowns deeply.
<Zahraoui> Has she charged them with anything?
<Welumque> I believe she indicated the charges would be conspiracy and treason. I don't know their legal system well enough to know what that means, but of course it is not good.
* Zahraoui nods.
<Zahraoui> I can't say for sure, but my assumption would be that either carries a death sentence.
<Zahraoui> I...am once again put into a difficult position.
<Zahraoui> I don't feel we can just abandon our *actual
* allies.
<Welumque> To take any action to free them directly would be seen as a violation of whatever terms the Governor is proposing.
<Welumque> But it might be possible to provide indirect support, something that would not be understood in those terms.
<Zahraoui> Did you have something in mind?
<Welumque> Not yet. I'm thinking out loud here.
<Welumque> I do wonder whether this is just a show on the part of the governor, to hold them and charge them, just to prevent any further assistance from her people.
<Welumque> Without any real effort to move this to trial right away, due to the very public nature of such a thing.
<Welumque> But if I'm wrong, then our priority ought to be to get them out of prison.
<Zahraoui> Unfortunately, we can't know if it's the former without simply waiting, and that may prove a poor choice in the long term.
<Zahraoui> Is there any way to get word to them?
* Lucas looks to Welumque
<Welumque> Yes, I think there is.
<Welumque> What message would you have me convey?
<Zahraoui> That they have the thanks and support of the Black Guard, and we will not abandon them.
<Welumque> I will do so.
<Zahraoui> Thank you. I don't know how we would have navigated all this without your help.
<Welumque> You are in an impossible situation, naqeeb. But my people have been in many such situations, over the years, and still we are here.
<Zahraoui> Hopefully we can follow your example.
<Welumque> Thank you for your time, naqeeb.
<Zahraoui> Thank you for yours, [elder].
<Zahraoui> (Specifically the Lèxkweyok term of respect that I am blanking on at the moment)
* Welumque and Lucas depart.
Svald goes to Thekla, and the pair of them go to Charlotta's
* Svald heads for Thekla's house.
<Narrator> (How are you wanting to approach? Wild shaped, or in your regular form?)
<Svald> (definitely wild shaped)
<Svald> (I'm a fugitive!)
<Narrator> The estate is mostly deserted; presumably most of its inhabitants are off at the Thing.
<Svald> (Well if Thekla isn't home, I will try to get into her house )
<Narrator> (Roll me Notice)
<Svald> !roll 4d3-5
* Lan-werk rolls for Svald: [ 4d3-5 ] getting [ 2 3 3 1 ] for a total of [ 9 ] which, after the modifier [ -5 ] totals [ 4 ].
<Narrator> Checking around the outside, you can spot Thekla sitting in a chair by the fire in the parlor, reading.
<Svald> (any open windows by any chance?)
<Narrator> (Not that you've seen)
<Svald> (is anyone around?)
<Svald> (I guess you already said not really)
* Svald taps with their beak on the window of the room where Thekla is.
<Narrator> (Just Thekla that you've seen. Maybe a guard or two on the grounds, but not nearby.)
* Thekla (webchat@68-235-164-162.gvec.net) has joined #gnomeland
* Thekla looks up at the tapping.
* Svald makes eye contact and taps again
<Narrator> (Is Svald still an owl?)
<Svald> (yes)
* Thekla puts down her book and comes over to the window.
* Svald bobs their head up and down excitedly
* Thekla looks confused, but will open the window after a moment.
* Svald flaps into the room and turns into themself.
<Svald> Skalla's been arrested!!!
* Svald blurts breathlessly (but not too loudly)
<Thekla> Ah!
<Thekla> Sorry, I'm not...nevermind. What did you just say?
<Svald> They arrested Skalla... and Hildie
<Thekla> Who did?
<Thekla> When?
<Svald> The governor... someone told them we were there, fighting. They got arrested for treason.
<Svald> Just now!
<Thekla> Wh...you know what, just tell me everything.
<Thekla> Treason!?
<Thekla> The hell?
<Svald> Skalla wanted me to warn you, in case they might come for you too..
<Thekla> Where is she right now?
<Svald> In the brig, on the island.
<Thekla> Fuck.
* Welumque (~Forthrigh@d24-57-67-2.home.cgocable.net) has joined #gnomeland
<Thekla> Okay. I've been to the fort, I know where that is...
<Svald> ... What are you going to do? :o
<Thekla> You said Skalla told you to warn me? Did she say anything else?
<Svald> Just that... and to tell her aunt.
* Thekla nods.
* Thekla sighs.
<Thekla> Does anyone else know?
<Thekla> Maybe I should go to the Thing?
<Svald> That's what Skalla did, so... I don't know about that. :x
<Svald> I have to go find Charlotta.
<Thekla> Isn't she there?
<Svald> I... I don't know, maybe?
* Svald is pretty flustered
<Svald> I guess she is... Yes, Skalla talked to her.
* Thekla nods.
<Thekla> So maybe we should go talk to her?
<Svald> ... Yes but... They're after me, too. :x
<Thekla> Ah, okay. Hmm. Maybe I can send someone to go get her?
<Thekla> We could head to her coffee shop, and have her meet us there?
<Svald> That would work...
* Svald nods.
<Thekla> It's not too far from the hall.
<Svald> I will meet you there... I don't want to walk through town like this.
* Thekla nods.
<Thekla> I'll meet you there, then.
* Svald re-owls, hops up to the windowsill, and takes flight.
* Thekla grabs a coat, hat, and scarf and heads out after Svald.
* Thekla will head to Charlotta's, sending someone to retrieve the proprietor from the meeting hall.
* Mina (webchat@68-235-164-162.gvec.net) has joined #gnomeland
* Mina is now known as Charlotta
* Charlotta will arrive a short time later.
* Svald will come in through the back door of Charlotta's, somewhat less worried about getting rumbled here.
* Svald keeps their hood up though. (assassin's Creed style :v)
* Charlotta will meet with Thekla and Svald in her office.
<Charlotta> Not that I'm not grateful for the reprieve, but what's this all about?
<Svald> So... how much have you heard?
<Svald> Not much I guess, then
<Svald> They arrested Skalla and Hildie. For treason ;_;
<Charlotta> Quite a lot, but not any of what this is...what?!
<Charlotta> When? Where are they?
<Svald> Just tonight... they took them to the brig, on the island.
<Svald> Someone told the Governor we were there, fighting the Emira's troops...
<Charlotta> Any idea who?
* Svald shakes their head.
<Charlotta> I suppose it doesn't matter just this moment...
<Thekla> It matters to me.
<Svald> And to Skalla and Hildie I'm sure
<Charlotta> I didn't say it didn't matter, just not right now.
<Svald> ... Right
<Charlotta> Are they all right?
<Thekla> They're in *jail*, of course they're not all right!
<Svald> Skalla's face got a bit beat up but... mostly.
<Svald> Mostly she's mad.
<Thekla> ...fuckers.
* Thekla says, re: the beat up bit.
<Charlotta> I would imagine she's furious, as am I.
<Svald> Welumque and Lucas were with them, but they let them go.
<Charlotta> Right. I suppose arresting Welumque would be a diplomatic incident.
* Svald nods.
<Svald> (m) I'm glad they didn't arrest Lucas ;_;
<Charlotta> Well, *I'm* not under arrest, so I can take this to the Thing. People need to know.
<Svald> Oh, thank you.
* Svald says with great relief.
<Charlotta> Svald, Thekla, you are welcome to stay here for the time being, just to be safe.
<Svald> You are very kind...
* Thekla frowns, and looks like she's going to argue.
<Svald> I would be grateful.
* Charlotta smiles at Svald and holds up a placating hand towards Thekla.
<Charlotta> There will be time for action soon, I'm sure, but, for now, bide your time.
<Charlotta> There are other fronts of this battle; let others handle them.
* Thekla grumbles but nods.
<Svald> I'm glad I could be... useful. -_-
<Charlotta> Svald, child, you've done quite a lot, and you have my thanks.
* Svald looks like they don't know how to respond to that.
<Svald> It was... well. Um. You're welcome...?
<Svald> I just want to get Skalla out ;_;
<Charlotta> As do we all. Sit, I'll have some tea and food brought in.
* Charlotta nods to Svald and Thekla and heads out.
* Thekla watches her go.
<Thekla> Augh!
* Thekla says after a beat.
<Thekla> I hate just sitting here.
* Svald startles a bit.
<Svald> Oh... yes.
<Thekla> Sorry, I didn't mean to...sorry.
<Thekla> I just...I got them into this mess, because I don't like doing nothing.
<Svald> Oh no.
<Svald> Neither does Skalla.
* Thekla smiles.
<Thekla> I know. That's what I like about her.
* Svald smiles back.
<Svald> (do you LIKE like her??)
<Thekla> Now we just need to make sure it doesn't get her hurt, or worse.
<Svald> (my empathy sucks but I'mma roll anyway)
<Svald> !roll 4d3-8
* Lan-werk rolls for Svald: [ 4d3-8 ] getting [ 1 3 1 1 ] for a total of [ 6 ] which, after the modifier [ -8 ] totals [ -2 ].
<Svald> (NO IDEA)
* Svald nods.
Lucas contacts the Stormsvallvag cousins
<Narrator> (Where are y'all headed now?)
<Lucas> do you need me to try to get a message to them?
* Lucas will ask once we're out of there
<Welumque> Can you do so? I had hoped it would be possible.
<Lucas> Maybe. I can attempt it, anyway.
<Narrator> (Okay, what are you wanting to do?)
<Lucas> (well, I think I would like to try to manifest to them in jail. I'm not sure if like... trying to astral project there, or talk to them in a dream, or what, is most plausible.)
<Narrator> (I think either is possible. Dream is easier but might be confusing or muddled, projecting is more difficult but clearer.)
<Lucas> (I'll try projecting then.)
<Lucas> I'll need to go someplace more quiet.
<Narrator> (Okie doke, roll Lore when you're where you want to be to do the working)
<Lucas> !roll 4d3-4
* Lan-werk rolls for Lucas: [ 4d3-4 ] getting [ 2 3 2 2 ] for a total of [ 9 ] which, after the modifier [ -4 ] totals [ 5 ].
<Narrator> The spirits are still pretty agitated, but you're familiar with navigating turbulent spiritual terrain. You travel the spirit roads to the fort, which looms larger and more ominous in the spirit realms. You can find Skalla and Hildie easily enough.
* Lucas will try to get their attention
* Hildie will open her eyes and sit up.
<Hildie> Lucas?
* Skalla is not sleeping, just lying there thinking, so her attention is probably pretty easy to get
* Skalla sits up also
<Skalla> what is this?
<Lucas> I can't stay long.
<Lucas> The governor sent a message to the naqeeb asking her to leave peacefully and she will not interfere. But I don't think she will do that. She learned of your arrest and said she would not abandon you, that you have her gratitude. Is there anyone I can take a message to, to help you?
<Hildie> Is Svald ok?
<Hildie> And Thekla?
<Lucas> I don't know.
<Skalla> I sent Svald to Thekla and my aunt
<Skalla> if they are okay then we are probably in goood hands
<Skalla> see if you can find any of them?
<Lucas> I'll try.
<Skalla> The Naqeeb shoudln't have to wory about us.
<Hildie> She has bigger issues right now.
<Skalla> yeah.
<Skalla> We can probably try and get out of here, we'd just need to know more about what's hppening outside
<Lucas> I can probably tell you that...
<Skalla> how many guards, how busy, those sorts of things.
<Lucas> (can I get an idea of that?)
<Skalla> I'm jut not sure if that's our best course - or if we wait for news to spread and see what happens in the colony :p
<Narrator> (Roll Notice)
<Lucas> !roll 4d3-5
* Lan-werk rolls for Lucas: [ 4d3-5 ] getting [ 2 1 1 3 ] for a total of [ 7 ] which, after the modifier [ -5 ] totals [ 2 ].
<Narrator> (There's the one guard outside the brig, plus several on patrol around the ramparts nearby)
* Lucas will relay this information to them
<Hildie> Hmmm
<Lucas> I could try to distract them if you want
<Hildie> I think we should wait. At least for a little while. See where things go first. Lucas, can you keep us up to date on what's going on?

<Lucas> better?
<Skalla> oh, wow, thank you...
<Skalla> and I'm never going to learn anyway :p
<Lucas> Take care. I'll talk to you again soon.
