Summary
- Session date: 2022--6-11
Vaze welcomes everyone to the exhibition with an announcement of Sébastien and Chitara's wedding.
Gueiris's aunt tells him about an opportunity to go to Akhas with Lavinia instead of to Morro. He goes to find Lavinia, and helps her with her archery and then tells her the excellent news.
Inga talks to Rosalie about her plans for the future, and whether she might want to follow in her mother's footsteps as a spy. She agree, as long as they can make a space for Juno in her life.
Lamont talks with Captain Alcina Vern, who congratulates him on his marriage, and offers him guidance in managing his dragonmark in preparation or going to Akhas.
Zanne approaches Leonora to talk about the fallout from Therma Alba and the possibility of strengthening inter-house cooperation in intelligence and security.
Victorina meets Roscoe and Ioun, who tell her that they will lend their full support to her cause. Once she gets a break to find something to eat, she shares the good news with Chitara.
Lamont and Nik regroup and Lamont talks some about his father's time in Akhas. they go to get some refreshments and are joined by Rosalie. She wishes them well for their engagement and they talk about their plans for the future, with hopes to meet up again oversees. Afterwards, Rosalie runs into Juno, and tells her about her travel plans. Juno also discusses the possibility of heading overseas so that they won't have to be apart as much.
Leonora finds Akan and tells him that they have chosen someone else for their proposition, but hopes that they can be friendly and that he will come and visit them nonetheless. She then goes to find Nik and Lamont to make plans for them to come to Nachtur.
Nik runs in to Coifárë and Kitty, and they talk about the wedding. They reassure him about his publishing woes, and they talk about plans for Akhas.
Sebastien introduces Chitara to his mother. Chitara presses him about rumours he referenced, but they both agree that they're not of any major concern.
Chitara seeks out Nik to tell him that she may need his help continuing her work in Ahkas helping slaves escape
Lamont runs into Gueiris and they talk about their god fortunes. They discover that they will both be taking positions on Akhas and decide to celebrate. Swearing to have just *one* drink, the manage to summon Coifárë. Nik joins them shortly afterwards, and they toast to old friends in new places and make plans together for their futures.
Session
The Akhasic Expo Begins!
Chitara: The Akhasic delegation has mostly blended in with their neighbors up til now, preferring to save the politics and flash for more public settings. Other than the flags outside, they could have been anyone.
Today, however, their rented manor has become almost a fairground. Music fills the air (along with some animal noises from the drakes and other livestock), delicious smells seem to beckon all who come near, and the gardens are full of tempting booths and performers
Victorina: Victorina handles the smooth operation of the booths. Chitara is left with being the hostess for now.
Vaze: rises to the stage to greet the assembled guests and dignitaries
Vaze: A warm welcome to you, my Nerathi friends! We are honoured to have you as guests on this momentous day, which serves as a symbol of our peoples' culture and heritage. In a gesture of friendship, please partake of our food and enjoy the demonstrations of talent and skill of our artisans and performers! And further, as a gesture towards our continued close relationship, I am pleased today to announce the engagement of my beloved niece Chitara to his grace, Sébastien Doumens, Duke of Harcourt! May their union be as happy and as strong as the union of our peoples!
Chitara: smiles and politely takes Seb's hand, waving at the crowd
Sebastien: Grins widele and pat's Chitara's hand
Sebastien: waves at the crowds
Gueiris and Alexeria Discuss an Assignment in Akhas
Josh: (Did Gueiris come with his family, with Lavinia, or on his own?)
Gueiris: (I would want to meet up with Lavinia, but I dont see why I wouldnt come with family)
Alexeria Kyrnon: will try to keep the family together for a little bit at first, just to present the proper image socially.
Alexeria Kyrnon: What do you think of our allies?
Alexeria Kyrnon: asks Gueiris once the family has split up some.
Gueiris: The Akhasic? I haven't had an opportunity to work with them.
Alexeria Kyrnon: It's funny you should mention that...
Alexeria Kyrnon: I'm sure you've been following what's been going on in Morro?
Gueiris: I am aware, yes.
Alexeria Kyrnon: Then I don't think it will surprise you to learn we have the opportunity for some lucrative work in that conflict.
Gueiris: It doesn't. So more troops are being moved in. How did you imagine the Kyrnon getting involved?
Alexeria Kyrnon: Generally, we'll be reforming and regrouping some of our more veteran troops for assistance and training. In specific, I think you and I have some details to discuss.
Gueiris: Its been a while since I worked on logistical details, but I'm sure it will come back quickly. How soon are things moving? I do have other commitments.
Alexeria Kyrnon: smiles at that.
Alexeria Kyrnon: Those other committments are what I wanted to discuss. While I have no doubt your fiance would happily accompany you to Morro, I'm not sure a war zone is the best place for a pair of newlyweds to start their life together.
Gueiris: That really is between her and myself, don't you think? I confess, it may prove challenging. I'm fine with challenging.
Alexeria Kyrnon: Well, I may have an alternative, less immediately dangerous, but I would wager no less challenging.
Gueiris: You have my attention. I'm all ears.
Alexeria Kyrnon: gestures around you both at the exposition.
Alexeria Kyrnon: With our renewed alliance, both the Houses and the central government will be deploying assets to Ebemar.
Alexeria Kyrnon: Military advisors, especially, will be be valued, given the situation in eastern Ahkas.
Alexeria Kyrnon: It's a different sort of assignment, but one I believe you can handle. It would give you more command experience, a chance to operate more independently, which I think may appeal to you, and is, in the immediate sense, a safer posting for you and Hersir Feigrsteinn than going to Morro.
Gueiris: I cannot argue with much of those points. It does weaken the strength in Morro, but I guess it doesn't preclude going there if things become strained there.
Gueiris: I havent been to Ebemar. Have you?
Alexeria Kyrnon: Years ago, just after the treaty was signed. The land is beautiful, though I imagine the city has changed in the intervening years. I was just a child then.
Gueiris: well then. I best absorb as much as I can from this festival. I am sure Lavinia would be excited to travel, and less tentative than storming right into a war zone.
Alexeria Kyrnon: smiles and nods.
Alexeria Kyrnon: I shouldn't keep you then.
Gueiris: Thank you, Aunt.
Alexeria Kyrnon: I am doing nothing less than my duty. Now go, find your fiance, be young. 🙂
Rosalie Discusses Her Future Career Path With Inga
Josh: (What's Rosalie up to at the expo in general?)
Rosalie: (Wandering around looking at booths, definitely eating something. Fully taking advantage of not having to organize or being in charge)
Josh: Rosalie, you've probably had dinner with your mother a few times since you saw her at the museum, but she's still her usual self, seemingly always busy but never with anything specific.
Inga Doumens: will be attending the expo, however, and is currently walking along with Rose. She looks as though she might be a bit distracted, but it can be hard to tell.
Rosalie: Are you enjoying the festivities, Mother?
Inga Doumens: Hmm? Oh, yes, immensely. They're quite the spectacle, almost like being in Ebemar.
Inga Doumens: You really should see it someday, dear. Or anywhere else, now that Sebastien is settled.
Rosalie: brightens a little
I was thinking of that recently, actually. A little tour, perhaps.
Rosalie: Things have been stable enough with the business, I thought I'd use the excuse of exotic herb gathering to explore new places.
Inga Doumens: That sounds like an excellent idea, though I am curious. Is the family business where your interest lies in the long term?
Rosalie: is quiet for a moment, looking off into the distance
I suppose I enjoy the challenges it brings, but I fell into the role... it's not something I chose. I'm hoping now that things have settled more and the board is more receptive to my leadership, I can start taking a more advisory role and pursue my own interests.
Inga Doumens: What might those be?
Rosalie: laughs lightly
Sometimes, too many to count. I should like it to have some...meaning, I suppose. blushes a little Juno seems to find such purpose in her work, and I admire that, but I don't know that I am quite soldiering material.
Inga Doumens: There is other work that matters, certainly.
Inga Doumens: pauses a moment and looks past the crowd, as though she's recognized someone.
Inga Doumens: Rosie, dear, that drow man, just there, by the sweets booth. Can you tell me his name?
Josh: (His name is Maldwyn Hier.)
Rosalie: peers through the crowd
Maldwyn Hier. Do you know him?
Inga Doumens: smirks.
Inga Doumens: I do now. Thank you, dear.
Inga Doumens: Ostensibly, he's a merchant who deals with several of the Ahkasic embassies in Highmark. He is also, however, operating under a false name, which you've just confirmed for me.
Rosalie: raises her brows
Should we alert someone?
Inga Doumens: No need, it will be taken care of. Have you ever considered more direct service to our House and the Confederacy?
Rosalie: blinks a bit, catching up
Uh, yes, I suppose, though what form that would take was always a question.
Inga Doumens: Your dragonmark would lend itself well to certain clandestine pursuits, not to mention your poise and attention to detail.
Rosalie: I...I suppose it would, yes. That is certainly an advantage of my upbringing.
Rosalie: Is...is that what you have been doing while you've been away?
Inga Doumens: Why, Rosie, I don't know what you mean. I'm just a wandering dilettante.
Inga Doumens: smiles and winks.
Rosalie: laughs, startled
It would certainly explain a few things. To me, I mean. I don't think anyone else was wondering, but the puzzle never quite...fit.
Inga Doumens: smirks.
Inga Doumens: I was fairly sure you'd take to the work.
Inga Doumens: Thank goodness Sebastien is at least pretty.
Rosalie: laughs
Oh, Mother, he is quite kind, too.
Rosalie: And funny, though mostly without meaning to be.
Rosalie: There are, or well, there is a consideration I would need to make before I am able to pursue anything in earnest...
Inga Doumens: Oh?
Rosalie: looks a little sheepish
Well, it's just... I just found Juno, you know, and I don't really want to let her go.
Inga Doumens: That's perfectly understandable, though I'm told it may not be as much of an issue as you may be worried about.
Inga Doumens: Quite a few Confederacy resources will be deployed abroad in the coming months.
Inga Doumens: A traveling herbalist might happen to find herself in the same city as a House military necromancer, for instance.
Rosalie: smiles
That would be most advantageous.
Rosalie: I should like to discuss it with her, as well. I don't wish to keep it a secret from her. If that's allowed?
Inga Doumens: You might need to wait a bit, but I can see if she can be cleared to be read in.
Rosalie: nods
Very well. I suppose I could say I've been given the opportunity to travel to Ebemar, and the particulars can be discussed when it's allowed.
Inga Doumens: nods.
Inga Doumens: Do take some time to consider. This can be a...taxing vocation.
Rosalie: studies her mother a moment
How do I put this... considers
You've been gone some time, Mother. I've been here with Sébastien. I've taken over the company and the household, and pretty much anything else Sébastien doesn't think is fun. And I've felt at loose ends, trying to fill the litte time I have free with things that might be meaningful.
Rosalie: I don't think I need much time to consider.
Inga Doumens: I know. You've done so much, more than should have been asked of you. And you've done it so well! I'm sorry I haven't been there, but that's what I want you to consider. You'd be taking up the same sort of life, with the same sort of...isolation.
Rosalie: smiles a little
Juno would understand, and Sébastien has Chitara to keep him busy. I need a purpose more than just my family.
Inga Doumens: Well, that I can certainly offer.
Rosalie: nods
Then, if you get me that clearance to speak to Juno, I would be most interested to travel to Ebemar.
Inga Doumens: nods.
Inga Doumens: I'll see to it as soon as possible.
Rosalie: takes her mother's hands
I am happy to know this side of you, Mother. It makes me feel...closer to you. As if we are cut from the same cloth.
Inga Doumens: smiles, a touch wistfully.
Inga Doumens: I truly do not know what to say to that but thank you.
Rosalie: grins
Well, you were married to Father. You know what living with a Sébastien can be like.
Inga Doumens: laughs.
Lamont Talks to Alcina
Josh: (Did Lamont come with Nik?)
Lamont: (I think so - @Nik ?)
Nik: (sure)
Lamont: (i guess potentially he could have come with nik and his dad :x)
Josh: (:3)
Josh: We'll say Nik and his father have, for the moment, peeled off to watch an exhibition of some sort, leaving Lamont temporarily by himself.
Alcina Vern Machel: approaches quietly.
Alcina Vern Machel: Lieutenant.
Alcina Vern Machel: says with a smile.
Lamont: oh, hello captain.
Lamont: will salute is that woudl be an expected thing here
Alcina Vern Machel: returns the salute.
Alcina Vern Machel: I believe congratulations are in order.
Lamont: yes, thank you
Lamont: smiles genuinely
Alcina Vern Machel: On a number of fronts, even. I was...troubled to hear about your uncle. I'm sorry the rest of the House didn't...well, I'll just say I'm sorry.
Lamont: ...Thank you.
Lamont: says, more solemnly.
Lamont: I believe I have to accesp some responsibilty there.... if I had spoken up sooner... perhaps...
Alcina Vern Machel: It can be difficult to see past your most immediate authority.
Lamont: nods
Alcina Vern Machel: Zanne tells me the House wants you to take over your uncle's work?
Lamont: yes, We have discussedit somewhat.
Alcina Vern Machel: I think you have the skills for it, certainly, though I would hate to lose a promising young officer.
Lamont: considers
Lamont: I have been giving it a lot of thought. And considerint whether a position where I'm less... directly responsible for my subordinates might be... better suited to my temperment.
Alcina Vern Machel: nods.
Alcina Vern Machel: Then I can only wish you the best in your work, and offer whatever support this old soldier can.
Lamont: nods
Lamont: Thank you, I do appreciate it.
Alcina Vern Machel: I was going to ask how you've been handling your 'mark, but I imagine you've had plenty of practice with it for the season.
Lamont: Yes.... Everything feels a little more manageable at the moment, though I still prefer not to be the center of attention. My time at Therma Alba was quite beneficial, on a number of fronts.
Lamont: It can still be quite overwhelming
Lamont: ( suppose I shoud ask what her intentions here are, if they're not just as they appear ;)
Josh: (She's genuinely just checking in)
Alcina Vern Machel: nods.
Alcina Vern Machel: I'm glad to hear you're getting a handle on it. I would be happy to work with you more if you like. It's an ability that will serve you well in, well, truthfully, any number of contexts.
Lamont: That would be very helpful. I woudl appreciate it
Lamont: I understand its utility, but the expression is sometimes...counterproductive.
Lamont: And I am beginning to get a stronger grasp on the limitations, as well.
Alcina Vern Machel: The old dragons really handed us a double-edged sword, huh?
Lamont: nods sympathetically at that
Lamont: for certain. How long did it take you you to become comfortable with it?
Alcina Vern Machel: I will be sure to inform you when that becomes the case.
Alcina Vern Machel: shrugs.
Alcina Vern Machel: Honestly, it may always be a bit of a struggle, but it's...like a callus, I suppose, or developing a muscle.
Alcina Vern Machel: Time and effort will make it less of an issue.
Lamont: takes a moment to consider that as well, and nods
Lamont: then I definitely appreciate any advice and direction that can help make the process of development... somewhat less painful
Alcina Vern Machel: nods.
Alcina Vern Machel: We'll arrange some time for it, hmm? For now, why don't you introduce me to your fiance?
Zanne and Leonora Plan For Closer Inter-house Cooperation
Josh: (What's Leonora up to at the expo?)
Leonora: is wandering around, sampling the wares, being seen on the arm of her hunk of a husband, etc.
Leonora: (other than that, just enjoying herself, now that her business for the season is mainly concluded)
Zanne Machel: will be attending as well, her husband and children in tow, though she splits off from them to approach Leonora and Magga.
Zanne Machel: Lord and Lady Wengal, so nice to see you.
Leonora: Marquess Lownmont, good afternoon.
Leonora: It's lovely to see the Akhasic delegation putting on such a pleasant display.
Zanne Machel: nods.
Zanne Machel: I agree. I've never had the pleasure of visiting Ahkas, so it's nice to have a chance to experience it at least a little.
Leonora: You always hear about the nastiness, and never the good things. Which of course those of us from Nachtur can sympathize with quite a bit.
Zanne Machel: I would imagine. Lord Wengal, I wonder if you would be so kind as to let me borrow your dear wife for a moment to discuss some business?
Magga: Of course, be my guest.
Leonora: How can I be of assistance?
Zanne Machel: will step away from Magga and the crowd as much as possible.
Zanne Machel: I thought we managed good work in bringing Thurston Allard to justice, however late it may have been.
Leonora: I'm not sure if we'll ever know the full extent of his actions, although I'm sure your office will do its best.
Zanne Machel: nods.
Leonora: Whatever small role I may have played, I am glad to have done so.
Leonora: And especially for young Lamont, who has been most personally affected over many years.
Zanne Machel: I feel my House has a lot to make up for there.
Zanne Machel: But I, and my House, are grateful for your assistance. I was actually hoping to discuss a further partnership.
Leonora: Oh, how so?
Zanne Machel: What Thurston did, he was, in part, able to do because the Houses too often work to cross purposes or simply do not communicate effectively. I'm working on an initiative to mitigate that issue.
Zanne Machel: Specifically, I'm trying to recruit and organize a number of House intelligence assets to work specifically for the Council, for Nerath. I know House loyalties will always be present, and I don't want to put anyone in opposition to their family and interests, but I think it behooves us to have a unified information-gathering and operations cooperative.
Leonora: All right. That sounds like a fine principle.
Zanne Machel: nods and lets out a breath.
Zanne Machel: My primary experience is in criminal investigation and prosecution. I'm hoping you would be willing to sign on to help bolster our intelligence arm, particularly with regards to the primordial cults Nachtur deals with regularly. Not to mention you have family contacts with skills and knowledge to draw on.
Leonora: All of this is true. And I am interested. My concern is, how do you intend to ensure that you don't accidentally recruit another Thurston Allard into your circle?
Leonora: After all, before this season he was, at minimum, respected, if not liked.
Zanne Machel: Diversification and transparency. We'll answer to the Council, all activities documented, if still classified. And my hope is that by recruiting from across the Houses and the Confederacy, we'll limit how much power any one person can amass in the performance of our duties.
Leonora: nods.
Leonora: That's wise.
Leonora: And do you have any concerns about bias? There are those in Nachtur who know, all too well, that not all the Confederacy believes in or trusts goblinoids.
Zanne Machel: It's something to watch out for, certainly. I want this to serve all of the Confederacy, not just the elites. I'll be looking to recruit non-House and NPC assets as well.
Zanne Machel: And I'm hoping, if this succeeds, it will engender greater trust and cooperation in general.
Leonora: What specifically do you need from me at the moment, then?
Zanne Machel: At the moment, absolutely nothing. I just wanted to speak to you and gauge your interest. I'm going to try to put things together officially before the end of the season, and we'll go from there.
Leonora: Well. Then you can consider me interested.
Leonora: Details, of course, would follow in time.
Zanne Machel: nods.
Zanne Machel: I'll be in touch. And we should absolutely have you and Lord Wengal over for dinner sometime.
Leonora: We would be delighted.
Zanne Machel: smiles.
Zanne Machel: Splendid. This coming Windsday?
Leonora: Yes, that would work, I believe we're free. Wonderful!
Zanne Machel: Excellent. I'll send a note along to confirm, and I'll let you get back to Lord Wengal. I look forward to working with you.
Leonora: Likewise.
ROSCOE!!!!!!! and Ioun Meet Victorina
Josh: (What is Victorina up to?)
Victorina: She's working behind the scenes, managing runners and handling potential crises.
Josh: At some point while Victorina is between crises, she'll spot a tall, lanky warforged and a woman it takes a moment to realize is also a(n impossibly well-crafted) construct in fine Ebemari dress, both walking arm in arm towards her.
Victorina: She smiles and puts away the paperwork she's holding. When the couple are close enough she'll curtsy deeply.
Roscoe: Ms. Allement! Hi! I was really hoping we'd get to see you here.
Roscoe: Oh, right, I'm Roscoe! Roscoe Scrye! We corresponded?
Victorina: "At this moment there is no other place I wish to be."
Roscoe: Samesies! Oh, and this is Ioun.
Ioun: A pleasure to meet you, Ms. Allement.
Victorina: "Oh. I did get your letter. It means a great deal to me to receive it."
Ioun: I've been reading transcripts of your speeches. You've put forth an eloquent case for your people.
Victorina: "I endeavor to do so. I know getting accepted to the Confederacy requires a lot of support from both sides. I'm just doing my part on this end."
Ioun: We wanted to be sure to attend your exposition, and been seen doing so, as a show of our support. Nerath owes your people a great debt.
Roscoe: And also we got to see the drakes, and the dancers, and that weaving demonstration...
Roscoe: I really need to visit Ahkas again sometime.
Roscoe: But, yes, you have our support.
Victorina: "Thank you. I'm truly grateful." She doesn't hide the relief in her voice.
Ioun: I hope you're getting a chance to enjoy the fruit of your labors as well.
Victorina: "I will in a moment. First and foremost I want our guests to enjoy the exposition."
Ioun: Then we shouldn't take up any more of your time, but please, be sure to take time to savor your victories.
Roscoe: Oh, and feel free to write any time.
Victorina: "I will."
Josh: They'll both take their leave and, as they stroll away, you notice their feet don't quite touch the ground as they walk through the crowd, currently somehow unnoticed.
Victorina: She'll do her best to take it stride. Having a snack sounds like a good idea, maybe see if any of those dumplings are left...
