Summary

Session I date: 2023-01-22
Session II date: 2022-02-05

It is the evening of the Sehanine Spring Masquerade being thrown by Highmark City Councilor Jesseryn Callais at his manor, the Arbor. Despite how precious space is in Highmark, the Arbor is several acres of gardens with plants from all over Nerath and beyond, including some that exist nowhere else. A particularly impressive piece is the newly-built greenhouse constructed with genuine Harrowden glass, at great expense.

Before the party, Lamont checks in with his uncle and guardian, while Katherina badgers her sister into promising to think about kissing boys. Leonora and her companion, Nenea Sparge, discuss her plans and prospects.

At the party, early arrivals Nik and Victorina are introduced by their publisher, Callisto Vallée. Victorina checks in with her chaperone, Eudora kan Vappoheimer. When Chitara arrives, Victorina introduces herself, and the two discuss their common political agenda. Nik and Lavinia get reacquainted and talk about the ball.

Coifárë and Gueiris meet up outside for hellos, and are joined briefly by Lamont before they all make their way inside and separate. Lavinia and Lamont are introduced by Lavinia's mother in an attempt to set them up. Lavinia is accosted by her sister afterwards to see if she is thinking about her promise before disappearing. Leonora meets up with Gueiris and give him some perhaps unwanted advice about courting. Lavinia and Gueirirs are introduced in person, and find that they hit it off better than expected. Coifárë and Nik meet while exploring the gardens, and agree to a dance later in the evening. Nik also runs into Chitara, and also promises them a dance.

Leonora approaches Lamont to try and feel out whether he might be a suitable candidate for her plants, and invites him to dinner with her husband. Afterwards, Coifárë comes across Lamont in the garden, and the two share a brief moment of intimacy before being interrupted by Chitara. Coifárë leaves with Chitara, and they get acquainted and dance.

Lamont recognizes Nik, and the two catch up briefly, before Lamont takes an unexpected nap on his shoulder. Coifárë checks in on them - Lamont decides he should leave the party, and Coifárë and Nik share a dance. Before he can manage this, Rosalie and her brother Sebastien arrive late and run into Lamont (literally). Sebastien bamboozles him into a few rounds of cards, and Rosalie relents.

As she continues her conversation with Gueiris, Lavinia feels out of her depth, and Gueiris offers to take her riding. Coifárë steps in to introduce themself, and the two go to check out the gardens. Katherina introduces herself to Nik, and Lavinia steps in to make sure nothing untowards is happening. Katherina pressures them to make more plans, but only successds in getting them to agree to a dance.

Leonora says hello to Nik, and advises him to take time and enjoy himself. Lavinia checks back in with Nik later for the promised dance. Leonora and Coifárë also catch up, and Coifárë offers her a few names of potential matches for her needs.

Lamont introduces himself to Chitara and lets her know about Gerry. Gueiris find him soon afterwards and helps him make an exit. They two make plans to catch up later.

Coifárë introduces themself to Victorina and they discuss politics. When Gueiris comes over and they determine that he and Victorina met at a protest. He offers to help her make a memorable scene that will get people talking about her cause, and is chastized by Councillor Callais for carrying it (and her) out.

Session

Intro: The Party of the Season

Narrator: As mentioned before, you've all been invited to attend the Sehanine Spring Masquerade being thrown by Highmark City Councilor Jesseryn Callais at his manor, the Arbor. Despite how precious space is in Highmark, the Arbor is several acres of gardens with plants from all over Nerath and beyond, including some that exist nowhere else. A particularly impressive piece is the newly-built greenhouse constructed with genuine Harrowden glass, at great expense.

Narrator: On a relative scale, what time were people thinking of arriving? Assume it begins early in the evening.

Nik: (I would probably arrive on time, having no sense of being fashionably late to anything 😉

Chitara: (Chitara is definitely arriving fashionably late but... only barely bc she's also very excited)

Stillmarch: (Lamont will be fashionably late for sure, like an hour or so, because he does know how these things work)

Leonora: (Leonora will also be fashionably late, having spent the afternoon with Magga)

Lavinia: will arrive late, but less due to fashion than to getting lost on the way.

Victorina: (Victorian will be on time, being completely unaware of things like being fashionably late)

Lamont Checks In With his Uncle

Chitara: Thurston expects Lamont to check in before leaving for the party. He's waiting in his study

Stillmarch: has taken his time getting ready, but will brace himself for this last hurdle

Stillmarch: will knock

Thurston Allard: Come in

Stillmarch: will step inside, leaving the door open behind him

Stillmarch: You wanted to see me, uncle?

Thurston Allard: Looks the boy over, seemingly neither pleased nor annoyed enough to critique his outfit Hm. I wanted to look you over before you get into your first proper Season. I suppose you'll have to do.

Stillmarch: 😒

Stillmarch: Is that all?

Thurston Allard: No. It is my responsibility to make sure you are adequately prepared to represent the family.

Stillmarch: . o O (Oh now you're concerned, hah)

Stillmarch: Very well...

Stillmarch: (I assume T is really just doing this to be shitty, please let me know if other motives ;p)

Thurston Allard: How are you planning on approaching this event?

Chitara: (half to be shitty, half for intel, with a dash of appearances)

Stillmarch: ...In what sense?

Thurston Allard: You are young and have not always kept the best company. You are not attending the ball for pleasure, you are doing so as the heir to your house. Anything you do tonight reflects on us and shapes your reputation for the rest of your life.

Stillmarch: mostly managed to look not too angry at that dig at his dead friend that YOU HAD MURDERED

Stillmarch: I understand my position.

Stillmarch: says, mostly cooly

Thurston Allard: Very well. Above all things, remember your honor. Make no promises you are not certain you can keep. You may go.

Stillmarch: Thank you.

Stillmarch: will get out then and be glad it wasn't worse :P

Katherina Badgers Her Sister

Katherina: will come bother her sister as they are finishing up getting dressed

Lavinia: looks up from finishing her makeup.

Katherina: Hey Vinnie...

Lavinia: smiles.

Lavinia: Are you almost ready, Kitty?

Katherina: oh you do have all the good rouge in here, I knew it!

Katherina: swipes it off your dresser and will start applying it

Katherina: probably mother's doing really

Lavinia: will start to say something and then stop herself.

Lavinia: She says I need all the help I can get.

Katherina: Are you excited?

Katherina: pfft, you don't need any of this!

Lavinia: I suppose... more nervous, really.

Katherina: Nerves about what?

Lavinia: sighs.

Lavinia: What if no one wants anything to do with me? Or worse... what if they do and then...

Lavinia: moves her finger across her throat.

Lavinia: You know...

Katherina: no - then what?

Lavinia: You know perfectly well what I mean. What if I really am... <w> ...cursed....<w>

Katherina: The only curse you suffer from is mother!

Katherina: you just had bad luck or really, if you think about it - maybe it was good luck.

Lavinia: Kitty! You shouldn't speak like that!

Katherina: Neither of them was a good match on anythig but paper and the second one barely even talked to you at all!

Lavinia: He was... busy.

Lavinia: Besides, they were perfectly fine matches. Their families were very influential.

Katherina: Vinnie, you can't let her push you into these things. It's just making yu miserale. That's the curse, I think.

Katherina: Will you do womerhign for me tonight though?

Lavinia: You don't understand. I don't have a choice.

Lavinia: What?

Katherina: Waves her hand dismissiely She can't actually make you, and you do have choices if you want to, Vinnie.

Katherina: but!

Katherina: Hmmm.... nyou do like boys, right?

Lavinia: considers.

Lavinia: In theory.

Katherina: Well. I want you to take a good look at them tonight, even if you aren't introduced to them and....

Katherina: smiles brightly

Lavinia: Kitty!

Katherina: I want you to pick out at least one that you might want to kiss!

Lavinia: blushes crimson

Lavinia: You are horrid!

Lavinia: Without even an introduction?

Katherina: I am not!

Katherina: I didn't say you have to kiss them...

Lavinia: You shouldn't even think such things!

Katherina: Just pick you you would like to kiss.

Katherina: laughs

Lavinia: You have been reading entirely too many Ballista Sinslinger novels.

Katherina: not thinking them is the problem, Vinie

Katherina: I'm just saying. You're supposed to marry one. You don't even know if you like them at all, or what to do with them, and I think it would be good to know what you're meant to be getting into.

Katherina: So!

Lavinia: What does liking them have to do with marrying them?

Katherina: Well, you don't have to marry a boy you know!

Katherina: But that's just one thing. Mosty I mean... I think it will be a little less scary if you know more what to expect.

Katherina: You;re the Heir! What you want shoudl matter and mother won't even let you think about what that might be!

Lavinia: I don't know that it would make much difference. At this point I need to take what I can get.

Lavinia: If I don't, then it falls on you. And I don't think either of us wants that.

Katherina: see? That is what I mean. You're not that old, VInnie, what's he rush?

Katherina: I'm not worried about me.

Lavinia: I am.

Lavinia: I worry about you dearly.

Katherina: Well, don't. I can take care of myself.

Katherina: I want you to think about you!

Katherina: Not to worry... but just... think what you want, okay?

Katherina: Because it shoudl matter.

Lavinia: sighs.

Lavinia: What about you? Is there anyone that you have thought about... kissing...

Katherina: smirks

Katherina: Vinnie, this is about you, don't trouble yourself about me at all!

Lavinia: smirks.

Katherina: How do I look?

Lavinia: There is!

Lavinia: Don't try to change the subject! Who is it?

Katherina: puts down the rouge pot and looks at you slyly

Katherina: I'll tell you what Vinnie. If you come back to me after this ball with even just one name.... I'll tell you then.

Lavinia: Oh, you horrible creature!

Lavinia: laughs

Katherina: smiles shamelessly

Katherina: Just one! One name!

Katherina: Or point him out to me if you don't know

Lavinia: We'll see.

Lavinia: I can never win with you, can I? It's really not fair at all that you got all the beauty AND all the brains.

Stillmarch: (I would like to offer you a resolve token to have Lavinia be actively be thinking about kissing boys during this masqurade)

Lavinia: (I will absolutely take that :3 )

Lavinia: (I marked it on the sheet)

Stillmarch: (fantastic :V)

Katherina: See, there you go, underestiating yourself again... Here

Katherina: rearranges Laviia's hair just slightly to make her look even prettier See?

Lavinia: smiles genuinely.

Lavinia: You are the most wonderful sister. Even if you ARE trouble.

Katherina: will give you a little hug I'm just the trouble you need. NOw I have to go and fetch my mask... I'll see you downstairs - and don't forget what we agree on!

Lavinia: rolls her eyes.

Lavinia: Hurry or we'll be late.

Katherina: laughs again as she dashed out the door Silly, we're supposed to be late! It's fashion!

Leonora and Nenea Discuss Plans

Nenea Sparge: will have arranged a carriage to take you both to the Arbor, though it's not too terribly far.

Leonora: seems unusually nervous for someone raised in high society and who has attended dozens of these things.

Nenea Sparge: Are you all right?

Leonora: Oh ... oh yes, thank you. It's just different when you're thirty-three than when you're eighteen. And the stakes are different.

Nenea Sparge: Well, this is just the first event of the season. It's...reconnaissance, not the battle itself.

Nenea Sparge: tries to be reassuring.

Leonora: Yes, exactly, reconnaissance. Making lists, and then, critically, crossing names off those lists.

Leonora: You have not been to so many of these yourself, have you, Nenea?

Nenea Sparge: This is only my second season, so I have a very little experience, but I know what's what and, importantly, who's who.

Leonora: Well, you will no doubt see many wonders and distractions, but have no worry, there will be time to get you arranged in the future.

Nenea Sparge: There should be a number of prospects for you as well. I'm told the Marquess of Stillmarch is attending, for instance.

Nenea Sparge: He meets your requirements, in theory.

Leonora: Yes, in theory.

Leonora: Do you know his uncle Thurston?

Nenea Sparge: I know of him.

Nenea Sparge: lists his holdings (or the ones he manages) and any other relevant info.

Nenea Sparge: Is he someone you're looking at as well?

Leonora: No, I wouldn't say that.

Leonora: He's someone who I once knew, years ago.

Leonora: As for Stillmarch himself, he may not be interested in what we have on offer, if he's looking for a marriage. But we'll have to see.

Leonora: Oh, remind me tomorrow to write Mother. She'll want to know how the first event of the Season went.

Nenea Sparge: nods decisively, a tic you recognize when she's specifically committing something to memory.

Nenea Sparge: Hopefully, you'll have something good to write about.

Leonora: She will not want me to make a decision too quickly.

Nenea Sparge: Oh, I didn't mean that. I just meant hopefully there will be some promising prospects.

Nenea Sparge: You have all season to make a decision.

Leonora: nods.

Leonora: I think Magga would like me to finish up sooner rather than later. He's uncomfortable here, I can tell.

Nenea Sparge: Is it Highmark in particular, or is he just anxious to get home?

Leonora: Not even Highmark the city. Just this sort of society, you know, not everyone cares for goblins.

Leonora: Plenty would see him as an interloper, or worse.

Nenea Sparge: nods.

Nenea Sparge: I understand his concern, but it might do some good to have him put in an appearance from time to time. Get more people used to seeing Nachtur's nobility taking part.

Leonora: Yes, I'll discuss that with him again.

Leonora: I think in this matter, you and I are in agreement, dear. But a marriage works under different terms. ... I'll try.

Nenea Spargo: I don't mean to push. I'm just trying to, well, assist as best I can.

Leonora: I know, and I appreciate it.

Leonora: And in his own way Magga appreciates it too.

Nik and Victorina are Introduced

Narrator: Julie, who would be accompanying Nik?

Nik: (That's an excellent question. I assume Agatha is there per usual, but idk if she's like... a guest, or just lurking and keeping an eye on him. If he has an actual plus one/friend/companion, it would be Callisto I guess, since she's one of the only people he knows here.)

Narrator: (Okay, Agatha is listed as his chaperone, so we can say she's with him.)

Nik: (ok, that works)

Narrator: Kate, I assume Victorina is accompanied by the kan Vappoheimers?

Victorina: at least one of them

Narrator: Okie doke

Narrator: Since only two of our pcs are there early, I figure lets find a way for them to interact. Is there a connection that could introduce them, perhaps, or we could have them bump into each other getting refreshments, maybe?

Nik: (bump into each other seems ok, since I don't know how they would connect via NPCs, unless it was like... Jesseryn introducing people to one another 🙂

Narrator: Okay, how about this? Nik, you've passed the gauntlet of being introduced to the host and his wife, and are in the party proper. Agatha has been fussing over you as is her wont, and you think you've managed to elude her for the moment (ghosts being notoriously difficult to lose).

Narrator: Victorina, Eudora has already pointed out several eligible matches for you, and your dance card is getting fuller than you'd like. You manage a moment to yourself as you retire for something to drink.

Narrator: How are Nik and Victorina presenting themselves this evening?

Victorina: Victorina is dressed as plainly as she can get away with without being rude. She's tempted to destroy the dance card but she's worried about getting another lecture about 'proper' behavior during events like these.

Nik: is wearing a flowing pale blue robe with tiny crystals embroidered in the fabric for a sparkling effect. The style is old-fashioned, like very old fashioned, not just a season or two out of date. His long white hair is tied up in a complex knot with a blue ribbon woven through it. He looks a bit awestruck and excited to be here.

Callisto Vallée: spots the both of you and makes her way over.

Narrator: (Now I'm blanking. How did we say Nik is referred to in polite society? Family's second-most prestigious holding?)

Nik: (yeah, I think that's right. Evenor)

Callisto Vallée: Lord Evenor! Miss Allement! What a pleasure to see you both here tonight.

Nik: Oh, hello! Good evening!

Nik: remembers to bow politely

Victorina: "Good evening." She tucks her dance card away; she'll deal with it another time.

Callisto Vallée: Have you two been introduced? I would imagine of my authors could find some way to fill a conversation.

Nik: No, we haven't! Oh, are you an author, Miss Allement? How wonderful!

Callisto Vallée: Lord Evenor, allow me to present Miss Victorina Allement. Miss Allement, Nikession Amathalis, Lord Evenor.

Victorina: "I author informational pamphlets to be handed out to the public. I don't profit from my work."

Nik: Ah, fascinating! What sort of informational pamphlets?

Victorina: Victorina's expressed brightens. What follows is a half hour rant/lecture about how the new settlements are suffering without recognition as city states even though they more the qualify for the designation. About how their prosperity can only continue if the government would recognize them for all their hard work.

Nik: will listen politely and ask occasional questions (which probably demonstrate that he doesn't know very much about the issue in question.)

Callisto Vallée: will listen politely for a little bit before making an excuse to go.

Victorina: Vicotrina has a captive audience (even if it's an audience of one) and will continue talking.

Nik: is trapped and doesn't really know how to extricate himself politely, so will just smile and nod and try to be interested.

Nik: Well, um, do you come to such events often, Miss Allement? I have never been to a ball so I don't quite know what to expect.

Nik: will try interjecting at some point.

Victorina: This sudden question not related to her passion project actually leaves her speechless for a moment. After thinking she responds, "This is my first one as well. I'm in town to help advocate for new city states. It was suggested that I attend these kind of events to garner more support."

Nik: Oh, that seems like a promising path forward for your goals. Do you know others who are also attending tonight?

Victorina: "I'm, afraid I didn't pay much attention to the guest list. Being so new in town most of the names meant nothing to me."

Nik: Oh? Where are you from originally?

Victorina: "Ebemar."

Nik: That's quite far! I think?

Nik: ponders matters of geography

Nik: As for myself, I am from Thantopolis. Which is also far, but less far?

Nik: Highmark is quite a fascinating city! Everything is so... lively.

Victorina: "True. I do wish the citizenry would take more interest in current events though. It's been hard drumming up enough interest."

Nik: Hmm. Well, perhaps you shall have more good fortune here this evening!

Victorina: "I sure hope so."

Chitara Arrives

Narrator: (Maybe that's a good segue into more people arriving? Perhaps Chitara can be introduced to Victorina?)

Chitara: (sounds perfect)

Eudora kan Vappoheimer: will find Victorina soon after.

Eudora kan Vappoheimer: I saw you talking to Lord Evenor for some time. Very well done.

Victorina: "Oh? He's that important?"

Eudora kan Vappoheimer: Heir to Therma Alba, House Amalthis. You could do much worse. How did he seem?

Victorina: "He...he listened to me. Nervous about being here..."

Eudora kan Vappoheimer: I can imagine, the poor lad. First season jitters and all.

Eudora kan Vappoheimer: Oh, hmm, I believe one of the Ahkasic delegations has arrived.

Eudora kan Vappoheimer: glances over to where Chitara and, presumably, their uncle are making their way inside.

Chitara: Chitara seems to be making a bit of a splash, in a frothy but semi-transparent dress heavily adorned with tropical spring flowers, and a mask seemingly made entirely of more flowers

Eudora kan Vappoheimer: Hmph. What these foreigners wear.

Eudora kan Vappoheimer: These are the people you want to bring into the Confederacy?

Victorina: "Of course. What's wrong with a little diversity and new ideas?"

Eudora kan Vappoheimer: I suppose that depends on the ideas.

Victorina: "You won't know until you hear them."

Narrator: (Seems like a good line for you to approach Chitara 😉 )

Victorina: Maintaining her pose Victorina will walk over to the delegates, focusing on the unusual lady in the fascinating dress. "Such a lovely gown! Where did you get the material?"

Chitara: Chitara grins. "I brought it from home, back in Ebemar. I wasn't sure if I'd have time to have my costumes ready for the first few events. I also brought the flowers from home, held in magical stasis."

Victorina: Victorina claps her hands together, "Oh I thought the style was familiar. I'm from Ebemar as well."

Chitara: "Oh, wonderful! I hadn't expected to meet someone from home here. What brings you so far from home?"

Victorina: "I'm hoping to gather more support for our home to be recognized as a city state."

Chitara: Her eyes go wide and her smile grows. "As am I! Would you like to grab a drink and discuss our goal further? I'm told Lord Jesseryn's wine cellar is very good."

Victorina: Victorina will thread her arm through Chitara's, "Sounds lovely!"

Chitara: Chitara leads her new friend off to retrieve wine from one of the wandering waiters. "So, not to be too eager, but will you tell me everything about your efforts?"

Victorina: Victorina nods and details the pamphlets she writes and the rallies she attends.

Chitara: Chitara listens intently and actually pulls out a notepad to take notes. Once Victorina is done, she nods. "This is my main goal here, I am delighted to hear so much work has been done already. "

Victorina: She sighs. "I just attendance was better though. I'm trying to get the local populace interested; this affects them too. I'm not sure if I'm making any headway."

Chitara: "That, I suspect, is where we come in." She grins. "I'm flashy and alluring, showing off all that we have to offer. My uncle is dealing with the Council, and you're out there on the street getting the word out."

Victorina: Victorina rubs her hands together. "Sounds lovely. What other wares have you brought to show off?"

Chitara: "Well, to start I've got three more outfits for tonight. One for each season, all carefully designed to show off the seasons back home."

Victorina: "Hmm...anything else? Like local produce or skins to entice business investors?"

Chitara: "Oh, definitely that too. We're having a ball halfway through the Season that will be catered and decorated entirely in the best Ebemari style. We're even bringing in musicians from back home for the dancing. The idea is to tackle this from every angle we can."

Victorina: "Are you also including local dancers as well? We need to show all aspects of our culture. Maybe have a separate event just for them."

Chitara: She bites her lip thoughtfully. "Maybe for dinner entertainment? We don't want to keep people off the dance floor but everyone loves to have something to watch as they eat."

Victorina: "True."

Chitara: "Please, call on us at home any time. We should work together as much as we can."

Victorina: "Of course! I should let you work the room, let everyone admire your gown. I'm sorry for monopolizing your time."

Chitara: "No, I am delighted to make your acquaintance. Hopefully this is the start of a beautiful friendship."

Victorina: Victorina clasps Chitara's hands and gently squeezes. "I hope the same thing. I'll let you know when the next rally happens. Where are you staying?"

Chitara: Chitara gives Victorina her address. "And yourself?"

Victorina: Victorina will also give her address. "My hosts are Baron kan Vappoheimer and his sister. They're business partners of my father and agreed to sponsor me for the season."

Nik and Lavinia Catch Up

Lavinia: will accidentally arrive fashionably late and make her way inside with her mother and sister

Nik: is admiring the sights and just pleasantly wandering around.

Lavinia: _will hang to the side at first and scan the crowd before spotting Nik and making her way towards him.

Nik: is happy to see a familiar face, and will head over in Lavinia's direction

Lavinia: Lord Evenor! It's good to see you again!

Lavinia: You seem much recovered since last we met!

Nik: Oh, Hersir Feigrsteinn, yes, thank you, I'm doing much better!

Lavinia: I knew from your last letter that you would be here in Highmark, but I did not expect to see you tonight.

Nik: Well, I am told this is one of the most impressive events of the social season, so I could not miss it!

Lavinia: Yes, Counsilor Callais always throws the most lovely balls. Have you seen the gardens?

Lavinia: Simply incredible!

Nik: Only what one can see from the entrance. It is truly impressive, though. I would enjoy seeing more of it.

Lavinia: Oh, you must! Would you like me to show you around? Are you well enough for a short walk?

Nik: Oh yes! I'm quite well now, thank you for asking.

Nik: But you don't need to entertain me, surely, you must have other people you would like to see here?

Lavinia: Oh, Ummm... of course. I'm sorry, I did not mean to impose.

Nik: Oh no! I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to get rid of you!

Lavinia: No no, it's fine. I understand.

Nik: I just thought, perhaps it's too forward to go off by ourselves? Is that a thing that people would think is unusual?

Lavinia: Oh!

Lavinia: considers this, then remembers what her sister had said about kissing boys, and then blushes deep red.

Lavinia: Yes, perhaps... perhaps you're right.

Nik: Besides, my chaperone is around here... somewhere...

Nik: looks around, not actually sure where she is right now

Lavinia: Oh? Who is here with you?

Nik: Oh, my ummmm.... well, she's my tutor, and my nurse, and lots of things really. She kind of raised me when my parents were otherwise occupied.

Nik: What about you, do you have companions with you?

Lavinia: Yes, my sister is here for her debut, and my mother is here also. When we arrived Katherina ran off somewhere and mother went to make sure she doesn't get in trouble.

Katherina: can be heard laughing joyfully for some ways away, hidden by the crowd

Nik: Oh, your younger sister? Is it her first time at a ball?

Nik: Do people often get in trouble at these sorts of things? 😮

Lavinia: Not generally, but Katherina is... special.

Lavinia: And yes, it is her first ball.

Lavinia: So tell me, My Lord, how are you finding Highmark?

Nik: Oh, it's wonderful! everything is so bright and cheerful. It's quite a change from home. At first it was a little overwhelming but I think I'm beginning to get accustomed to it.

Lavinia: Is this your first time away from home?

Nik: Yes, it is.

Nik: I've only been in the city for a week or so.

Lavinia: I imagine it would be quite overwhelming!

Lavinia: Are you here for the season?

Nik: Yes, well, I think so? My father is here for the council's session and so I assume we will stay for the entire time? But he's very busy of course.

Lavinia: Oh, I see. Well, then if you are free you must come to tea at our house sometime. I'm sure my mother and sister would love to meet you.

Nik: That would be very nice, thank you! I would be pleased to accept.

Lavinia: smiles

Lavinia: Excellent. I will look forward to it. I should probably go and find what's become of my sister, but please promise me you will tour the gardens.

Nik: Thank you, I shall. I'll look forward to seeing you again soon!

Lavinia: will curtsy and wish you a good evening.

Nik: bows politely

Lavinia: After ensuring that her sister is still Alive, Lavinia will head over to the desert bar and snack on profiteroles while trying to get the thought of kissing Lord Evenor out of her head.

Coifárë, Gueiris, and Eventually Lamont Meet Up Outside

Gueiris: is attired for the event in a forest green jacket with brown and red scrollwork. His mask has leaves and vines, and leaves and vines are woven in to his horns.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: is currently in a dress patterned after autumnal leaves, with a wreath of the same in their hair. They rush forward to greet Gueiris when they see him.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Kyrnon!

Coifárë | Vilyawén: gives him a hug.

Gueiris: hugs her back

Gueiris: Please, Gueiris is fine.

Gueiris: It is great to see you.

Gueiris: smiles

Gueiris: It is nice to see a friendly face before this night even begins

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Surely there will be more friendly faces inside, but it is nice to see yours.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: How are you?

Gueiris: I should say well enough, but Highmark can be... not the best fit for me at times.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: looks concerned.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: If you're not up for the party, we could head out on the town. There's good clubs down the mountain.

Gueiris: My presence here tonight is required, though I do appreciate the offer of egress. You seem well. You trip to Highmark was good?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Glorious. I took an airship, so it was slower going than a portal, but the views...fantastic. Stopped by Mythragal and Shom, finished up here in time to begin the season in style.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: And where are you coming from?

Gueiris: I've been back in the city for over a year now... I was in Nachtur for a bit before that. Been a bit since I was in Myhragal... still the same as always?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: More or less. You'd probably disapprove of the enchantment I had done for my outfit for tonight, but I have to make a good impression.

Gueiris: I am resigned to the fact there will be numerous frivolities here tonight. My choices are to be grumpy and hate the evening, or at least try to make the best of things. My goal is to do the later.... so you're outfit falls into that category, fear not.

Gueiris: And you make a good impression just walking into a room

Gueiris: winks

Coifárë | Vilyawén: grins.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Are you without a chaperone for the evening?

Gueiris: My cousin, or sister... still cannot get used to that, was going to join, but she had family issues... which I'm sure has made her oh so thrilled to be missing out again. Gueiris: Are you alone as well?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Well then, you can accompany me, and I'll watch out for you.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: My family knows better than to try to stick someone with me.

Narrator: (Heather, why don't you pop in now?)

Stillmarch: (where are you guys?)

Gueiris: (loitering outside having a smoke)

Stillmarch: (nice)

Stillmarch: will just be getting dropped off from his carriage then, which you both might recognize the heraldry for

Gueiris: I'm game if you are. The stir will be amusing.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Oh, well, here's a reason you need a chaperone right now.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will take Gueriris's arm and maneuver him over to Lamont.

Stillmarch: steps out and looks around

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Stillmarch!

Stillmarch: /me is wearing a mostly black brocade ensemble, with floral motifs, accentuated with diamond jewelry, and a glass? broach that is designed to look like apple twigs and buds trapped in ice, and a mask to match

Gueiris: Marquess

Stillmarch: looks over and his face probably does.... somethign interesting in the instance of seeing both of you together

Stillmarch: Vilyawén... Kyrnon . I didn't know you two were familiar

Stillmarch: Good evening

Coifárë | Vilyawén: How are you?

Gueiris: We've known each other for several years... from back in Aethrennari

Stillmarch: Well, enough, thank you.... yourselves?

Stillmarch: nods to Gueiris with a slight smile. "I shoudln't be surprised."

Gueiris: Yes, how are you holding up?

Gueiris: says with genuine concern

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Excellent. We were just headed inside. I wasn't sure we'd see you this season."

Stillmarch: seems somewhat thrown by that (Gueiris)

Narrator: (Well, that makes it look like a different response, but it's to Stillmarch)

Stillmarch: Thank you for your concern...

Stillmarch: You have heard, then.

Stillmarch: sounds lightly relieved maybe

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I'm sorry, I think I'm missing something. What's happened?

Stillmarch: Ahh. My cousin, Lord Algernon, was killed on one of our patrols...

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Gerry!

Coifárë | Vilyawén: gasps.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Oh, no, Lamont, I'm so sorry.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will reach out to touch his hand.

Stillmarch: is clearly struggling, but will pull back, straightening his frame even more, and with drawing his hand almost reflexively

Stillmarch: ....Thank you

Narrator: (Heather, would you be up for a little monologuing? 😉 )

Stillmarch: (oh man right off the start, sure! Gve me a sec and I'll write it out)

Stillmarch: (also I assume both are just acting out of genuine concern here, without other underlying intentions?)

Gueiris: (for sure)

Narrator: (yeah)

Stillmarch: Maybe I am… not ready to come to something like this – I thought I had these feelings under control, and suddenly I feel like I could crack in half. And they don’t know, and I can’t tell them, that I’m the cause, one way or another, for his death. And to see them here together was enough of a shock. And I have yet to step into this stupid party… Am I going to make it through the evening? Do I have any choice? I should have thought this through better.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: moves their hand back, trying not to look too hurt or concerned.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Should we go inside?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: tries to sound cheerful and encouraging.

Stillmarch: Perhaps that would be best

Gueiris: We can get a drink, at least.

Stillmarch: says with a somewhat sad attempt to match the tone

Gueiris: taps out his smoke

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will let Lamont lead the way, and share a concerned glance with Gueiris.

Stillmarch: will head inside to be announced, then

Gueiris: (to Coifare) I haven't spoken to him since Mythragaal. The three of us were together then. We need to keep an eye on him, or at least find something to lighten his mood.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Historically, I haven't had much trouble with that, but he seems...haunted. What happened to Algernon? He said it was on one of their patrols...

Gueiris: I know little more than what Lamont mentioned.

Gueiris: shakes his head

Gueiris: Loss isn't easy, even when it's blameless.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: stops to give Gueiris a look of familial concern, then forces a pleasant smile.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: You're not wrong, but you're entirely too young to talk like that. Come on, let's get some drinks into you and Stillmarch.

Gueiris: I need to make the rounds for a bit if you can keep the Marquess occupied. With luck it won't take too long and I can meet back with the two of you.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: nods and lets Gueiris go.

Lavinia and Lamont are Introduced

Stillmarch: bows again after your mother excuses herself, then

Lavinia: It's a pleasure to meet you, Your Grace.

Lavinia: I apologize for mother, she is... distracted.

Stillmarch: nods

Stillmarch: I understand, Hersir, no need to apologize

Stillmarch: . o O (Not the first mother to try and leave me alone with her eligible daughter in the past.... 20 minutes :p)

Stillmarch: I simply wished to make an introduction, and... I have something for you you, should you wish it. I will take no offense if you do not.

Lavinia: Something... for me?

Stillmarch: reaches into his inside coat packet

Stillmarch: They are letters that were addressed to you, form Lord Algernon's belongings.

Lavinia: puts a hand to her mouth in shock.

Lavinia: Oh... you knew my fiance?

Stillmarch: He was my cousin. We served together. I apologize for the shock, my lady.

Lavinia: No...thank you. I... it was just unexpected.

Lavinia: I am very sorry for your loss, Your Grace.

Stillmarch: I understand. I know you... did not have an opportunity to spend much time with him >.>

Lavinia: I met him only... briefly.

Stillmarch: Thank you

Stillmarch: nods

Lavinia: But he seemed a good man. An honorable soldier, as I understand.

Lavinia: will take the letters from Lamont gingerly.

Stillmarch: That's kind of you. He was a good man.

Stillmarch: . o ( In his way :/)

Lavinia: Thank you again for bringing me these. I didn't know he had even written me.

Stillmarch: smiles slightly

Stillmarch: He could be a better correspondent than most gave him credit for.

Stillmarch: I will leave you to your refreshments for now, Hersir, but perhaps later I will ask you for the honour of a dance.

Lavinia: Of course, I would be honored.

Stillmarch: will bow politely then and step away

Lavinia: will look at the letters in her hands and then at Lamont walking away and sigh.

Katherina: well sis? Any progress? ^_^

Lavinia: jumps at finding her sister suddenly at her elbow.

Lavinia: Kitty! Oh, sorry, you startled me.

Katherina: That one was pretty handsome.... does he make the cut?

Lavinia: stares daggers at her sister.

Katherina: Oh there's mother... I'll see you later! Remember to have fun!

Lavinia: Kitty wait! Leave that poor Jireh boy alone! You nearly had him in tears before!

Lavinia and Gueiris Hit it Off

Gueiris: will approach Lavinia at the refreshments

Lavinia: shakes her head and turns back to find Gueiris approaching.

Gueiris: Hersir of Feigrsteinn, it is an honor to finally meet you in person.

Gueiris: bows

Lavinia: Good evening, sir. Forgive me, have we met?

Lavinia: will curtsy.

Gueiris: Only in letters, Gueiris, Lord Kyrnon Maranue.

Lavinia: My memory is not the greatest.

Lavinia: Oh, Lord Kyrnon!

Lavinia: It's a pleasure to finally make your acquaintance in person!

Gueiris: I hope I am not being too forward in approaching you like this.

Gueiris: I just felt that if the opportunity presented itself, I should speak with you.

Lavinia: Oh, I'm sure with my sister around no one would even notice such a minor scandal as that.

Lavinia: laughs.

Gueiris: chuckles

Lavinia: When did you arrive in the city?

Gueiris: The Maranue estate is in the city where I've been staying last year and a bit. I did not venture to these events last year.

Lavinia: Oh, I see.

Lavinia: I imagine with your experiences in the field that you mentioned in your letters these sort of affairs must seem dull in comparison.

Gueiris: different. That doesn't mean dull.

Gueiris: I've had a chance to run into several old friends, and perhaps meet new one.

Lavinia: I'm glad to hear that! My evening has been similarly rewarding.

Gueiris: I do offer my sincere condolences over your Fiancé. I met Algernon while abroad.

Lavinia: Ah. Yes. Thank you.

Lavinia: Were you and Lord Falstaff well acquainted?

Gueiris: We had some memorable times in Mythragaal

Gueiris: smiles fondly at the memory

Lavinia: nods.

Gueiris: Seems so long ago

Lavinia: My condolensces to you as well, then.

Lavinia: It's beginning to seem as though I knew my fiance less than most of those here tonight.

Gueiris: It was my Aunt that recommended that I write to you. I don't think that she was aware I had known Lord Falstaff.

Lavinia: I am glad she did. I have enjoyed our correspondences.

Gueiris: I was worried they were a bother to you.

Lavinia: Oh, not at all! I admit, I was also forced to the pen by my mother, but it is interesting to me to hear about life outside the city, and I admit I have always been fascinated by those who can work real magic. Not just the sort of confectionary conjuration that my birthright gives me.

Lavinia: smiles.

Gueiris: nods

Gueiris: Do not discount the capacity to conjure food. It has many surprising uses.

Gueiris: smiles

Gueiris: So you want to travel?

Lavinia: Oh, I should like to, yes. I have travelled many times between here and our holdings in Grimfarr, but that is the extent of my worldliness, I am afraid. Perhaps one day I will be able to see the other great cities.

Lavinia: But I'm sure I would never catch up to you in terms of travel!

Gueiris: Oh I wouldn't be so sure, if its what you truly want.

Gueiris: I was blessed to start early with my parents. These days less so. If I can get back out there, in the future, I would do so.

Lavinia: Do you plan then to go back to the field life?

Gueiris: What I want and what will be are two different things.

Lavinia: I... understand that.

Lavinia: I'm sorry.

Gueiris: I appreciate the sentiment, but there is no need for you to be sorry.

Lavinia: Well... I sympathize, then.

Gueiris: So how am I doing so far? Sweeping you off your feet? I could literally if you want.

Gueiris: gives a sly wink

Lavinia: laughs

Lavinia: Don't you dare! You tall folks and your ideas!

Lavinia: tries hard not to stare up at Gueiris' mouth.

Gueiris: be thankful you have never had your tail stepped on.

Lavinia: Oh, I'm far more likely to simply be stepped on!

Lavinia: The contortions one has to go through to dance a Quadrille are simply astounding when you are my height.

Gueiris: If someone could be so foolish to not notice one as lovely as you, well they deserve the whatever viciousness their shins endure.

Gueiris: I for one, would not make that mistake.

Lavinia: blushes fiercely.

Lavinia: I... Oh... um....

Lavinia: That's... kind of you to say.

Gueiris: Now its my turn to blush... its hard to notice with the red skin.

Gueiris: I had no expectations with this meeting, now I am sorry I put it off.

Lavinia: Lord Kyrnon, you have me at quite a loss for words, I'm afraid...

Lavinia: looks up into his eyes.

Gueiris: looks down at hers

Gueiris: I have you at a disadvantage. Should we go sit somewhere?

Lavinia: continues staring for a long moment before realizing that he is speaking and shaking herself out of her trance.

Lavinia: Oh... ummm... yes, of course.

Gueiris: collects a couple of drinks and offers a hand

Lavinia: reaches up to accept it and allows herself to be lead.

Gueiris: finds a lounge were they can speak more eye to eye

Lavinia: will find a high stool or chair to put herself more level with Gueiris

Coifárë and Nik Meet in the Gardens

Narrator: (I was thinking Coifárë could chance upon Nik while both touring the gardens?)

Nik: (sure, that would be good - Nik could take Lavinia's suggestion to look around)

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will happen upon Nik while he's admiring a particular specimen. Their outfit has changed since they arrived, now sporting a winter theme complete with illusory snowflakes twinkling around them.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Oh! We match.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: smiles brightly.

Nik: Oh? Yes, I guess we do 🙂 I'm sorry, I don't think we've been introduced?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: No, I don't know you. First season?

Nik: Yes, um, well, yes it is! I'm Lord Evenor. And you are?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I am Otorn Coifárë Morinehtar Nónayúyo Brescia, Colmacil of Vilyawén.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will 100% go for taking Nik's hand and kissing it if he lets them.

Nik: will not stop them, but is clearly a bit flustered

Coifárë | Vilyawén: But that's of course a ridiculous thing to lug around. Vilyawén is fine. Coifárë's better.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Are you enjoying the party?

Nik: Oh, yes, it's very interesting! There are so many people, and the gardens are beautiful.

Nik: is basically wide-eyed and a bit overwhelmed

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Aren't they? It's always a treat to get to see Lord Jesseryn's masterpiece.

Nik: Did he do this all himself? I mean it's very nice, if he did!

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I'm sure he has help, but this is his work through and through.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Have you sampled his wine selection for the evening? I know you Thantopolitans have discerning palates.

Nik: I have not! Do you have a suggestion?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: The '11 Argeneau is particularly good. And, thematic.

Nik: Thematic?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: gestures to their outfit.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: White wine.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: winks.

Nik: oh I see! that sounds good 😄

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I really do suggest you try it.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Maybe you can favor me with a dance later and tell me if you enjoyed it.

Nik: Oh, certainly, that would be a pleasure!

Nik: I'll see you later, then, Coifárë - it was very nice to meet you!

Coifárë | Vilyawén: And you as well. I'll look forward to that dance.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will take their leave.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: And here I thought they’d locked up the Amalthis heir like a fairy tale. It’s good he’s getting out now. He’s cute, and seemed nice, and could really stand for someone to get him into some good trouble, I think… sigh I can’t believe Gerry’s gone. Lamont looked…well, maybe I can find him and raise his spirits. Old friends trump new acquaintances. I’ll get that dance later.

Nik Runs Into Chitara

Nik: is still wandering around the gardens and admiring the sights

Chitara: Chitara has also wandered out into the garden, having now switched into their summer outfit, a brown, green, and blue 'suit' that is definitely more showy than is standard in Highmark. They wander around a hedge and find themself face to face with Nik, clearly surprised to run into anyone.

"Oh, good evening."

Nik: Good evening!

Nik: bows politely

Chitara: "My apologies, I don't mean to intrude."

Pulls a move somewhere between a bow and a curtsey

Nik: Oh no, not at all! I was actually slightly lost.

Nik: I am Lord Evenor, it's lovely to meet you.

Nik: extends his hand, a bit warily after Coifárë

Chitara: smiles brightly and shakes his hand

"Oh, Lord Evenor! It's lovely to meet you in person. Chitara Kituss, at your service. I have enjoyed our correspondance."

Nik: Oh!! Oh, my apologies, I did not recognize you! What a lovely surprise to see you here!

Nik: have you been in Highmark long?

Chitara: "it's alright, I didn't recognize you either. It's so hard to keep an image in mind when all you've known of someone is letters on a page."

They gesture airily, implying that it's nothing worth apologizing over.

"We've only been settled in town a week. Barely made it in time for the start of the Season, really. What about you? It's good to see you out and about."

Nik: Yes, I have been here but a few days, really. It's been a veritable flurry of activity!

Chitara: "Oh, for certain. This Season is already shaping up to be so exciting!"

Nik: I have no real point of comparison, so it certainly seems that way to me!

Chitara: "Yes, I imagine so. We... well, we had a season back home but I had always been told it was a pale imitation of western Seasons. Apparently, they were not wrong."

Nik: Of course I imagine perhaps not all events will be quite this grand?

Nik: asks uncertainly

Chitara: "Oh, certainly. There will be breakfasts and garden parties and all manner of events. Unless Highmark is even more ridiculous than I think, balls like this are the grandest events on the docket."

Nik: That makes sense. It is exciting, to be sure, but a bit difficult to navigate!

Chitara: Oh, I imagine. You've really been thrown in headfirst, haven't you? I hope you're managing alright so far.

Nik: I think so? I don't believe I've given any grave offense at least.

Chitara: "Oh, I'm sure you haven't. But I more meant... I hope you're not too overwhelmed."

Nik: Well, I have found it a little quieter here in the gardens. But I imagine it would be rude to remain here all night. For one thing, I believe there is dancing later, and someone has requested that I partner them for that?

Nik: I hope I shan't make a total fool of myself.

Chitara: Mmm, yes, I'm afraid we'll both have to head back inside eventually. But it's not so bad. Who're you dancing with?

Nik: Oh, someone named Coifárë? I don't know them really, just someone I met here. But it seemed like it would be rude to refuse, and they were quite charming 🙂

Chitara: "Hm, I'm afraid I don't know them either. Charming is good though. Are they cute, too?"

Nik: I thought so!

Chitara: "Well, then hopefully you'll have a very good time dancing with them. Maybe you'll spare one for me, too?"

Nik: I would be delighted, of course!

Chitara: "Wonderful! I need to go dazzle some people, but I'll see you inside, then?"

Nik: Certainly, I shall look forward to it!

Leonora Gives Gueiris Dating Advice

Gueiris: is doing the rounds amongst the guests, and is surprised yet again

Gueiris: Lady Lenora Palatine?

Leonora: Lord Kyrnon? Is that you? I didn't know you were in Highmark.

Leonora: Last I heard you were ... abroad.

Gueiris: And yet you are the one abroad and I am home. How fairs Nachtur?

Leonora: Well enough. As always, there is work to be done. My dear husband and I are kept quite busy at the estates, for the most part.

Gueiris: Of course. I am happy to hear things are well. What brings you to Highmark? These parties cannot be the only draw.

Leonora: Lord Wengal and I have some contractual matters to arrange. And it has been so long since I have been here, or at least it feels that way. Every season the debutantes get younger and younger.

Gueiris: You do yourself a disservice with comments such as those.

Gueiris: I know a few legal clerks who can aid in the paperwork, having dealt with some challenges of my own of late.

Leonora: Dare I ask? Or would the answer be too scandalous for such a dignified event?

Gueiris: The only scandal would be the mundanity of it all. Having been recalled to Highmark, I had to dissolve my shares in the mercenary company.

Gueiris: shakes his head

Leonora: Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that. So what has your aunt got you doing now? Besides being here, in all your glory?

Gueiris: My obligation to ensure the legacy of the family. I do get hired out every now and then for various local maters.

Gueiris: That obligation has me parading here in my "glory" as you put it.

Leonora: Well, the Maranue house carries more than a little prestige. I'm sure you won't have any difficulty.

Gueiris: Aunt Alexeria wants to ensure that the match will meet the needs of Maranue.... I appreciate what my aunt and uncle has done for me, but I do bristle at some of their requirements.

Leonora: Well, if I may give you a word of advice, from someone who has done this all, too many times.

Gueiris: listens intently

Gueiris: please do

Leonora: Everyone here is lying. Me, you, everyone. Because it's what we've been trained to do.

Leonora: Here, if you want to succeed, you have to live as if the lie were the most important thing. There's nothing so unattractive as an ill-fleshed-out half-truth.

Leonora: Decide on your lie, and then make it yours.

Gueiris: I hear what you say, and I feel it is genuinely given, and I must concede that there is some reality to what you say.

Gueiris: It is not how I will choose to find who I will spend my life with. You may call me immature or foolish, I care not.

Leonora: I have gotten very far in this life, well, Lord Wengal and I have, together, precisely because we do not truck greatly in such frippery. It has its purposes, naturally. But we share a common pragmatism that has seen too many ill-cobbled unions put together by well-meaning aunties during the Season.

Gueiris: You see the edge that I walk. Avoiding the unskilled cobbler while seeking the best fitting shoes.

Gueiris: chuckles

Leonora: Speaking of which, do you see those tiny ones on the gentleman there in the green? Someone should tell him those will cut off the bloodflow.

Leonora: And of course you know what they say about a man with tiny shoes.

Gueiris: chuckles again

Gueiris: I have heard rumors, yes.

Leonora: Tiny feet.

Leonora: says, deadpan.

Gueiris: On that small note, I will take my leave of you. If you do need any aid in those dealings, if there is some assistance I can provide, please let me know. Otherwise, enjoy the evening and say hello to Lord Wengal for me.

Leonora: I will. Good luck!

Leonora Sizes Up Lamont

Leonora: is standing and sipping a cocktail, watching the youth and mentally making notes in a red gown.

Stillmarch: probably has reemerged and has been talking to various folks here and there, and has excused himself momentarily to get a drink

Leonora: sees you across the room, nods and smiles slyly.

Stillmarch: looks up and glances your way

Leonora: heads over to you.

Leonora: Your Grace. What a pleasure to see you hear this year.

Stillmarch: My Lady? I'm afraid you have me at a disadvantage. I must have missed when you were announced. My apologies.

Leonora: It has been a while. You were younger then. As were we all. Lady Leonora Palatine, now Lady Wengal.

Stillmarch: Ahh, I hope you can forgive my poor memory, but I'm pleased to reacquaint myself.

Leonora: Likewise. Is this your debut season?

Stillmarch: In a sense I suppose, though I have attended these events before... A matter of circumstances.

Leonora: Ah, of course.

Leonora: Is your beloved uncle well?

Stillmarch: (That probably gets a look that he can't quite cover)

Stillmarch: Lord Allard is quite well. Should I tell him you inquired?

Leonora: Ah, remind me, he never married, did he?

Leonora: asks, knowing perfectly well the answer.

Stillmarch: No, my lady.

Leonora: Ah, right. So he is not with you this evening?

Stillmarch: (So Steve, can I just ask why she is asking this stuff, like what is her intention here? I can spend a resolve token it if you think it would affect the story for him to know. If it was just to sus that out though were probably fine)

Stillmarch: smiles politely.

Stillmarch: He is not. He does not favour these events.

Leonora: (sure, she's trying to figure out what your family's interests are, why you are here, etc., since you are on The List)

Leonora: (but of course you don't know about The List yet)

Stillmarch: (okay, thakns!)'

Leonora: Of course, I remember.

Stillmarch: ...How do you know my uncle, may I ask?

Leonora: Ah, well, again you may have been too young to remember. It was, ahhh, perhaps eight years ago, that he and I spent some time together that season. It didn't work out for a variety of reasons.

Stillmarch: Ahh.

Leonora: But I'm sure everyone has forgotten about all of that.

Stillmarch: I would expect so... It seems like you found more suitable prospects elsewhere.

Leonora: Lord Wengal and I have a very committed, loving relationship. He may come to some of these, now and again, although the environment doesn't suit him well.

Stillmarch: Is that a Goblinod name?

Stillmarch: Is he from Nachtur?

Leonora: Yes, my husband is Grugalen Wengal Magga, of Nachtur.

Stillmarch: nods

Stillmarch: Is he in attendance as well?

Leonora: Not this evening, no.

Leonora: I will be pleased to introduce you to him, at some later time. The Palatines and Machels have always had friendly ties and I see no reason for that not to continue.

Stillmarch: Of course, my lady.

Stillmarch: Are there.... particular connections of interest?

Leonora: For you, or for me?

Leonora: smiles enigmatically.

Stillmarch: ahh, an excellent question, Lady Leonora, but you did approach me....

Leonora: Yes, I did. Tell me, Your Grace, is your presence here at court this season, is it serious in intention or frivolous?

Leonora: That is, are you here with a plan, or in the hope that one falls upon you?

Stillmarch: straightens up.

Stillmarch: My lady, I did hope to make clear by my actions that I do have serious intentions this season. I I have not managed that then... perhaps I do need a clearer plan.

Leonora: Not at all. I just notice that, as far as I can see, you are unaccompanied here this evening. Which is fine, of course. You are entitled to be avant-garde if you so choose, Your Grace.

Leonora: I would be happy to give what guidance I can, if you would be receptive to it.

Stillmarch: Guidance, my lady?

Leonora: Well, you see, there are many potential partners here. Some, I can see, are not serious, or would not be serious to you.

Stillmarch: That's very generous of you... I'm sure you have your matters to attend to - or is there some connection I am not seeig?

Leonora: Well, that is to be seen. Perhaps I could invite you to lunch with myself and Lord Wengal sometime soon?

Stillmarch: I'm sure it could be arranged

Leonora: In the meantime, do let me know if I can be of help to you in any way. We must look out for each other, naturally.

Stillmarch: Of course.

Stillmarch: Naturally.

Lamont, Coifárë, and Chitara In the Garden of Good and Evil

Stillmarch: has tried to find some place he can just get away and be alone for a few minutes, whether it's some quiet alcove in the gardens that's otherwise unused , or some empty or mostly empty side room in thr manor.

Stillmarch: has taken off his mask also, for the moment, holding it in one hand so he can rub his face with the other. Without it, he looks... very tired and drawn.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: has been looking for Lamont, and pauses in the archway when they happen to spot him along on one of the smaller cliffside alcoves.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: approaches quietly.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Lamont?

Stillmarch: still manages to look up and see you before you speak

Stillmarch: straightens up

Stillmarch: Fare...

Coifárë | Vilyawén: smiles wistfully.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: You look awful.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: says as sweetly as possible.

Stillmarch: Ah. Apologies?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: You never have to do that with me. I'm just worried about you.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: You look like you haven't slept in a week, and not in a good way.

Stillmarch: >.>

Stillmarch: Please.... don't trouble yourself with me.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: It's no trouble, and even if it was...

Coifárë | Vilyawén: places a steadying hand on Lamont's arm.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: What are old friends for?

Stillmarch: moves back from their touch. "I'm afraid I'm not a very good friend."

Coifárë | Vilyawén: How do you mean? Lamont, what's happened? Is this about Algernon?

Stillmarch: ...

Stillmarch: I'm sorry I'm very tired, I have a headache.... People are watching absolutely everything I do with great scrutiny... I probably should not be seen talking to you like this at all.

Stillmarch: seems to realize that true as he is saying it, and makes a toekn effort to push his hair back and replace his mask

Coifárë | Vilyawén: steps forward and places their hand on Lamont's to stop him from replacing the mask just yet, pauses a moment to look him in the eyes, then moves to give him a hug.

Stillmarch: /me resists at first, more frozen than anything, and then melts a little into the hug

Coifárë | Vilyawén: is content to hold Lamont for a long moment, trying to steady him. They'll eventually pull back to actually look at him.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Lamont...

Stillmarch: rubs his face (definitely not wet, no no >.>), and sheakes his head, taking a shaky breath

Stillmarch: I can't...

Stillmarch: I need you to leave me be. Please.

Chitara: made a wrong turn in the garden and stumbles into the alcove, where they proceed to dramatically misread the situation

"Um... I'm really sorry, but I seem to be lost. If you'll point me the way back to the house, I'll get out of your hair and leave you to your fun"

Coifárë | Vilyawén: steps decisively back from Lamont.

Stillmarch: looks over with a sort of shocked/horrifed expression

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Uh, no need, I was just about to go get something to drink and leave my friend to his thoughts. I'd be happy to show you the way.

Stillmarch: quickly replaces his mask though

Coifárë | Vilyawén: gives Lamont a hurt look and small bow.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Marquess Stillmarch.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: turns and offers their arm to Chitara.

Stillmarch: Colmacil.

Stillmarch: manages

Chitara: "Oh, Stillmarch? I think I know your cousin."

does another bow/curtsey

"I appreciate the escort..." Smiles and is clearly angling for their companion's name

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Coifárë Morinehtar Brescia, Colmacil of Vilyawén.

Stillmarch: probably looks a little pale under his mask, but bows as they go and will just.... stand here and become one with the all for a bit after they go

Coifárë | Vilyawén: And I am happy to be of service...

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will turn with Chitara and leave (assuming she's cool with that.

Coifárë and Chitara Dance

Chitara: Chitara is very happy to be escorted off, unaware of what she'd just walked into

Chitara: "Chitara Kituss, from Ebemar. Would you possibly take pity on a foreigner and tell me how I should address you? We don't have much nobility back home."

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Be careful who you set up like that.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: says with a smirk.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Formally, it's Colmacil Vilyawén, but Vilyawén in common practice.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: A little ponderous, but we do like our traditions.

Chitara: Laughs flirtatiously Vilyawen, then? If that's alright with you. I'd definitely like to get to know you better, at any rate."

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I'd be happy to accommodate you. What brings you to Highmark?

Chitara: "Oh, making alliances." Chitara replied casually "It's a beautiful city, I've enjoyed it immensely so far."

Coifárë | Vilyawén: It's good to hear you've been enjoying Nerathi hospitality. Make sure you get a chance to see the whole city if you can. It's beautiful up here, but there more to be found, certainly.

Chitara: "Do you have any particular recommendations?"

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Plenty. What sorts of things interest you?

Chitara: "Oh, hm. Normally I would ask about diversions, but this Season should have so many. Perhaps you'd be kind enough to point me toward a good bookshop?"

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Oh, well, there's Gallipers in Sheerside and Hanig & Co. in Midmarket, but, for me, the best book dealer in town is Keerk's in Magerun. It's a little hard to find, but he specializes in rarer texts that can be even harder to find.

Chitara: "Oh, wonderful. I'll have to check that one out, thank you."

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Perhaps I'll run into you there sometime.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: You mentioned alliances?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: says with a sly smile.

Chitara: "I would be delighted to see you there. Perhaps we could even make an outing of it."

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I would be happy to represent my people in such an endeavor.

Chitara: "Then you must call on me at your convenience." grins cheekily at him

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will lead Chitara back to the party in general and likely ask for a dance.

Chitara: Will happily dance

Lamont Talks to Nik

Nik: is back inside, having managed to find his way around the gardens and back to the main party.

Stillmarch: is defintely getting that drink now

Nik: will look for that wine that Coifarë recommended.

Stillmarch: looks up from pouring a glass and blinks

Nik: Oh, excuse me - is this the Argeneau? I actually am not sure how to tell them apart.

Nik: asks, perusing the different kinds of wine

Stillmarch: ...Lord Evenor?

Nik: Yes!

Nik: is surprised to be recognized

Nik: I'm afraid you have me at a disadvantage, as you know my name but I don't know yours.

Stillmarch: will pour you a glass of the wine you requested

Nik: oh, thank you, lovely 🙂

Stillmarch: Stillmarch....or Lamont if you prefer, though it has been quite some time...

Nik: I mean, the drink is lovely!

Nik: adds hastily

Nik: Oh, my, I should have known you, I'm sorry! Lord Stillmarch, it's so nice to see you here!

Stillmarch: gives a quick smile(?) of bemusement

Stillmarch: Well, it is a masquerade after all...

Nik: I suppose that's true. Most people aren't really in a disguise though, I'm just not accustomed to such large crowds.

Stillmarch: nods

Stillmarch: How are you finding it?

Nik: It's even more incredible than I imagined! The gardens are so pretty, and everyone has been very nice so far, at least that I've spoken to. It's quite a lot to take in all at once, though.

Stillmarch: I'm glad to hear it.

Nik: What about you? Are you having fun?

Stillmarch: Ahh. I think I am approaching my limits for enjoyment of the evening >.>

Nik: oh, that's too bad. Would you like to go sit down for a bit?

Nik: asks sincerely

Stillmarch: That's very kind of you.

Stillmarch: ...Maybe just briefly. There are some dances left for me to dance yet.

Nik: Of course. I know I'm not supposed to, what is it, monopolize anyone's time.

Nik: says, presumably quoting someone

Stillmarch: You are most welcome to my time.

Nik: smiles at that

Nik: I think there is a settee over this way, I saw it as I passed by, if you wish to sit for a little while.

Stillmarch: nods, and will go sit for a bit

Nik: will join you there

Stillmarch: 'm sure you must have been asked a hundred time already, but how are you finding the city?

Stillmarch: have you already spent your entire allowance in the bookshops the way you'd planned?

Nik: It's marvellous, truly. The sights and sounds are a delight.

Nik: grins a bit more at that

Nik: Well, so far I have only been to two, but ... yes, I did spend more than I should have, probably. There are just so many choices!

Nik: I shall have to have them shipped home in crates, I think.

Stillmarch: nods

1:03 AM]Stillmarch: what's next on your agenda, then? Will you be here for all of the season?

Stillmarch: I hear there are some interesting salons planned...

Nik: Yes, that's the plan at any rate, assuming nothing goes wrong... I have been invited to tea at Hersir Feigrsteinn's home, so perhaps that is what is next? I don't quite know what to expect.

Stillmarch: nods

Stillmarch: She seems quite sweet - I do still owe her a dance as well.

Nik: Oh, should I have asked her to dance? Maybe she thought I was being rude.

Stillmarch: I'm sure you still could

Stillmarch: there will be other chances. If she invited you for tea, then probably she didn't thikn you rude

Nik: People have asked me, but I did sort of forget I can ask them too...

Stillmarch: Unless it was her mother's doing >.>

Stillmarch: smiles

Stillmarch: I'm sure your attentions will be well sought after.

Nik: Oh, I can't imagine why, nobody really knows me here.

Stillmarch: no, but that alone will attract some interest

Stillmarch: and then when they learn who you are, certainly some will become more so

Nik: I am to dance with someone named Coifarë a little later, I think?

Stillmarch: Ahh...

Stillmarch: They are a wonderful dancer.

Nik: I'll need all the help I can get. I think the dances that are done here are rather different than what I learned at home...

Stillmarch: nods

Stillmarch: If you had caught me earlier in the evening I would have been quite happy to assist.

Nik: Oh, no, I can't impose on you. It's my own lack of experience showing.

Nik: I wouldn't want to embarrass you 🙂

Stillmarch: I'm sure somehow I could handle the embarrassment of showing the heir of house Amathalis how to dance .

Stillmarch: I wouldn't want to embarass you - I'm afraid I'm not at my best

Nik: Is something amiss?

Stillmarch: Oh, no... I'm just... very tired.

Nik: Oh, I'm sorry. Here I am, chattering to you when you probably just want a moment of quiet to rest.

Stillmarch: Not at all. I'm sitting in pleasant company, that's as restful as these events get, I've found.

Nik: Well, look, I shall shut my mouth and just sit here so that no one else sees you are free and comes to bother you. They'll have to wait until I'm through with you. That's clever, isn't it?

Nik: I will be your guardian for a few minutes anyway 🙂

Stillmarch: No, that would be cruel of me, to monopolize your time when you could be asking someone to dance

Nik: chuckles

Stillmarch: though it is very clever. And kind. Thank you for the offer.

Nik: I'm too nervous to ask anyone to dance. This is ... more relaxing. And it's only for a few minutes, anyhow 🙂

Nik: will determinedly sit there while you get a few minutes of a break, at least.

Stillmarch: maybe just... a few minutes....

Nik: ... ... .... And I'll be quiet. Although I suppose we have to look like we're chatting. But you don't have to say anything back.

Nik: That will be quite a good trick, I think 😄

Stillmarch: yes, very good... but please, you really don't have to...

Nik: The flowers over there are very pretty - the purple ones, you know? They would look nice in the gardens at home, I wonder if one could get a small sample of them....

Nik: will make idle chitchat that places no particular demands on you for a reply

Stillmarch: will absolutely pass the FUCK right out after like... a minute

Nik: oh... well. he did say he was tired.

Nik: will sit there and not move.

Stillmarch: probably did not start out leaning on Nik but... hey these things happen >.>

Stillmarch: is very warm, smells nice

Nik: has no idea of the proper etiquette of this situation (other than suspecting it's probably not this) but also... it's kind of nice.

Lamont Naps and Coifárë Interrupts

Coifárë | Vilyawén: will have taken a break from dancing for a moment to get a drink, when they spy Lamont falling asleep on Nik's shoulder. They watch for a moment, conflicted, then finish their drink in one go and head in that direction.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: approaches, trying to catch Nik's eye without alerting Lamont.

Nik: glances up and gives a 'shh' and a little wave

Coifárë | Vilyawén: mouths "Is he okay?"

Nik: nods

Coifárë | Vilyawén: then mouths "Areyou* okay?"

Narrator: (Well, I syntaxed that all to hell)

Nik: one-shoulder shrugs (trying not to disturb him)

Stillmarch: seems pretty out for the moment at least

Coifárë | Vilyawén: approaches as quietly as they can. Hopefully if Lamont can fall asleep amid the party, someone being quiet won't wake him.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: (quietly) I see you've met Marquess Stillmarch.

Nik: (whispers) yes... he's a little tired out, I think

Coifárë | Vilyawén: (whispers) He's...going through some stuff, I think. How long has he been out?

Nik: (whispers) maybe about five or ten minutes?

Coifárë | Vilyawén: is still a bit ticked at Lamont, but smiles despite themself.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: (whispers) Would you like a break? I believe I owe you a dance, and I promise he won't know you're gone.

Nik: (whispers) oh... well, if I move he'll probably wake up? but maybe I should... he'll probably be sad if I just let him sleep here all evening.

Nik: will try gently moving and see if Lamont stirs

Stillmarch: does a little

Nik: shh... hello, it's okay, don't worry...

Stillmarch: Hmm?

Nik: says quietly but a little louder than before

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Oh, well, I could have...

Stillmarch: sits up and looks around groggily

Nik: sorry

Stillmarch: what? Fare?

Nik: says to either of them

Stillmarch: looks back over to Nik

Nik: smiles

Stillmarch: Oh....

Nik: It's all right. You needed the rest, I can imagine.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you.

Stillmarch: covers his mouth

Stillmarch: I'm so sorry

Nik: don't worry about it!

Stillmarch: rubs his temples, and wipes the corner of his mouth with horrified embarassment

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Lord Evenor's right. You do seem like you needed the rest.

Stillmarch: this is.... hardly appropriate

Stillmarch: how long?

Nik: A few minutes, that's all.

Stillmarch: looks between the two of them

Coifárë | Vilyawén: I don't think you were noted. Most everyone's focused on the dancing at the moment.

Stillmarch: nods

Stillmarch: ....you noticed >.>

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Well, I'm not inclined to besmirch your reputation, now am I?

Nik: What's the worst anyone could say, in any case?

Stillmarch: winces

Stillmarch: nods to Coifare though

Coifárë | Vilyawén: La...Stillmarch, maybe you should head home? Try to get some rest?

Nik: Yes, if you want to make an exit, you could...

Stillmarch: You're probably right.

Stillmarch: I should go.

Stillmarch: will try and straighten himself out... fix hair, clothes, mask, etc

Coifárë | Vilyawén: tries to mask a concerned look.

Nik: It was very nice to have the chance to talk with you. I hope we can see one another again soon!

Stillmarch: It was good to meet you in person.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: watches Lamont quietly.

Stillmarch: looks to Coifare

Narrator: (Impassively? That would have been a better word 😛 )

Stillmarch: I...

Stillmarch: I hope you have a wonderful evening.

Stillmarch: will stand and bow to them both

Coifárë | Vilyawén: ...It was nice to see you, Marquess. I hope you feel better in the morning.

Stillmarch: Thank you. My Lord, my Leid... good night

Coifárë | Vilyawén: sighs and shakes their head after he turns to go.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: (to Nik, once Lamont is gone) I hope I wasn't imposing. I didn't mean to cut in if you two were...enjoying one another's company.

Nik: No, it's all right. I mean, I didn't MIND but I also wasn't quite sure what to do? I wasn't expecting him to fall asleep.

Nik: Perhaps I'm very boring to talk to!

Coifárë | Vilyawén: smiles sympathetically.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Don't take it personally. As I said, I think Marquess Stillmarch is just having a bad night. He quite lovely, usually.

Narrator: (He's. Stupid no correcting tuppers)

Nik: Oh, we know each other a bit! I mean by correspondence. But this was the first time I had met him in person. I wish it had gone a little better.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Well, in my experience people tend to fall asleep when they're having a bad time, or after having a really good time. Take it as a compliment.

Nik: smiles a little wider at that

Nik: I cannot speak from such experience, but I'll take your word that it's so.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: Care to have that dance now?

Nik: That would be lovely 🙂

Nik: will accompany you to the dance floor and try not to totally mess things up.

Coifárë | Vilyawén: is a skilled enough dancer they can help compensate, and will do their best to make sure Nik has a good time.

Nik: Lord Stillmarch seems so weary, I hope he isn't falling ill... Mother would surely be very upset if I got sick while I was so far away from home. Even though I haven't had a cold in months! She might even fuss enough to make me come back to Therma Alba, so I'm going to hope it isn't anything so serious as that. Perhaps he was just up late the night before, doing... whatever things noblemen do? I imagine Coifarë could tell me a few things about that, if I asked, but that seems rather too forward when we've barely met. It seems like everyone here is much wiser and more sophisticated than I am, but that's all right - I'm here to learn, after all, and maybe gather more material for another book! I'll be all right if I just keep my wits about me, I'm sure!

Lamont's Escape is Interrupted by Rosalee and Sebastien

Stillmarch: has been trying to somewhat gracefully angle his way towards the exit, and has made it across about 2/3 of the hall, occasionally getting detained by various acquaintances or hopeful matchmakers

Rosalie: will almost quite literally bump into him while tugging along her brother

Rosalie: I must introduce you to some people, you can't spend the whole night in the cards room, again, Seb, it's just not---oh, hello!

Stillmarch: oh, my apologies, my lady

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: Oh hello there, careful Rosie!

Stillmarch: (lol no)

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: grins

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: Pardon my sister there - have we met?

Stillmarch: steps back slightly to make more space and looks over the pair.

Stillmarch: I believe we have been introduced your grace, but it has been some time.

Rosalie: Seb, Marquess Stillmarch. Marquess Stillmarch, Sebastien, Duke Harcourt.

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: Oh Stillmarch, yes, of course! And this is my charming sister, Lady Rose!

Rosalie: laughs a little

Stillmarch: nods

Rosalie: He's the more charming of the two of us.

Stillmarch: smiles politely

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: How's the masque going? We've arrived a little unfashionably late I'm afraid, you know how it goes! Have you been to the card room? Anything good?

Rosalie: sighs and shakes her head

Rosalie: You spent too much time on your hair again.

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: Well, it's these masks themselves you see - its tricky to arrange! You must know exactly what I mean, marquess.

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: *gestures vaguely at Lamont's disarrayed curls with a genial grin

Rosalie: puts a hand on Sebastien's arm

Stillmarch: looks slightly embarassed despite the mask, and futiley tries to smooth them out

Stillmarch: Oh, yes, of course...

Rosalie: Should stick to compliments, Seb

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: Oh no, I'm sure the ladies love it, eh Stillmarch?

Rosalie: clears her throat How have you enjoyed the masque so far, your grace?

Stillmarch: nods to you gratefully

Stillmarch: Councillor Callais is a magnificent host, of course. Everything is exquisite, as expected.

Stillmarch: I have not had the pleasure of the card room this evening though.

Rosalie: smiles

Rosalie: I have heard it is enjoyable. Must be for how much time Sebastien spends in there. Unfortunately, I am making him actually meet people tonight.

Rosalie: Have you made many new introductions?

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: Well, now, Rose, let's not be too hasty.... Clearly the marquess just needs some proper company!

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: Gentleman to gentleman, eh :D

Stillmarch: Ahhh... I have made several, my lady....

Stillmarch: glances between the siblings

Rosalie: 's smile turns into a grimace as she tries to ignore her brother

Rosalie: Well, do let me know if you need any future introductions. I fancy myself quite good at them.

Stillmarch: I was acually... considering taking my leave...

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: See now, that settles it! You can't depart if you haven't even seen the card room! Not on the first night of the season!

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: Now I say - just few hands, hmm? That's not so bad Rose? And then you can leave with your evening comeplete and Rosie can have me at her mercy for the rest of the evening. I swear!

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: grins even more broadly, proud of himself

Rosalie: Sebastien, let's not pressure the poor man...

Stillmarch: (I will offer you a resolve token to let me go play 'just a few rounds of cards' :D)

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: Pressure? No no, I just want to make sure he's had a good time. How's that sound Stillmarch?

Rosalie: sighs and smiles faintly

Rosalie: Why don't you go ahead, Seb, I need to ask His Grace a question, then I shall endeavor to send him your way.

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: Oh, certainly then! Don't keep him too long though, we need to get a seat at the right table after all :D

Duke Harcourt | Sebastien: Claps Lamont on the shoulder genially, and smiles to his sister before heading off to the good part o the party

Stillmarch: ...

Rosalie: If I may beg a favor, your grace, my brother is a wonderful person, but he is....well, he's not the best judge of character.

Stillmarch: Ahh....

Stillmarch: I see.

Rosalie: I can normally stop it, but I have my own obligations tonight. If it wouldn't be too much trouble...

Stillmarch: . o O (Well this is what the sentinel houses are for isn't it? To save these other idiots from themselves, and each other >.>)

Stillmarch: Of course my lady. I understand.

Rosalie: sighs and smiles in appreciation

Stillmarch: I will endeavour to steer him to good company

Rosalie: Thank you. And I do hope your evening ends well. Seb is very good company. It's difficult to be anything but cheerful near him.

Stillmarch: nods, covering a dubious look.

Stillmarch: That's encouraging. I will endeavour to return him to you before too long so that you don't miss out too much on his cheer. Have a good evening, my lady.

Rosalie: And you as well, your grace!

Stillmarch: will bow politely and... go find the fuckin' head of House Doumens before he makes a total fool of himself at cards I guess?

Lavinia and Gueiris Continue Their Conversation

Gueiris: Has the evening been acceptable for you so far?

Lavinia: Oh, very much, My Lord. It has been much better than I had hoped so far.

Gueiris: I concur. Between running into old friends, and making new one, this has been better than I had hopped.

Lavinia: Do you have many friends in the city, then?

Gueiris: A few... and some that are visiting for the season.

Gueiris: I'm not much of a socialite.

Lavinia: I see. So then I will not... see you again at other events?

Gueiris: If there is a good reason to attend... well... I'm going to be at most of them this season.

Lavinia: smiles

Gueiris: I'm sure you know many more people here than me.

Lavinia: Oh I know quite a few people here. More than I expected to, actually.

Lavinia: But I am sure that a... fine gentleman such as yourself must make friends quickly.

Gueiris: now you are giving me too much credit.

Gueiris: smiles

Lavinia: smiles back.

Gueiris: You mentioned my travels. Do you have a desire to visit beyond Highmark?

Lavinia: Oh, I would very much love to. I would love to see the other great cities.

Gueiris: Is there anything stopping you from doing so now?

Lavinia: Well... I'm not yet married. My mother would not approve.

Gueiris: so marriage is the only barrier?

Lavinia: I suppose. But who knows if my eventual spouse will want to travel. I can only hope I suppose.

Gueiris: You should try and meet someone who already enjoys traveling, and would thrive on such a lifestyle. Just a suggestion.

Lavinia: ...yes... I suppose I should...

Lavinia: Do you enjoy travel, My Lord?

Gueiris: I enjoy seeing the world. I like Highmark, yes, and I've been blessed with a home here. There is just more than Highmark.

Lavinia: Exactly!

Gueiris: Unfortunately, my family has me rooted here, trying to find me a wife.

Lavinia: Oh, so... I suppose we have that in common.

Gueiris: True. I do fear what machinations my Aunt might tie me into once I do find someone.

Lavinia: What do you mean, My Lord?

Gueiris: Aunt Alexeria is engrossed in enriching the Kyrnon family name. She brought me back to Highmark, as is her will.

Lavinia: Surely tending to the family's name is not a bad thing?

Gueiris: No it is not... I just fear she is not as skilled as she thinks she is.

Lavinia: We all have our responsibilities we must suffer.

Gueiris: Why must we suffer? Why does it have to feel like such a burden?

Gueiris: This, us talking, this is not a burden.

Lavinia: Oh, I didn't mean to imply that it was! Talking with you is no burden at all, My Lord! Quite the... opposite, in fact.

Gueiris: please, just Gueiris. It's just the two of us.

Lavinia: Oh...

Lavinia: Is that... but it's not proper...

Gueiris: one does not have to be proper all the time.

Gueiris: when you do travel, proper will sometimes fall aside.

Lavinia: Oh...

Lavinia: I suppose that when one is on the road, so to speak... perhaps things are less formal.

Gueiris: nods

Gueiris: I can still call you Hersir, if that makes you feel more comfortable

Lavinia: Oh, I... no, it's... I mean if you want...

Gueiris: what do you want?

Lavinia: What do... I want?

Gueiris: looks her in the eyes

Lavinia: I...

Lavinia: looks up into his eyes as well.

Lavinia: I should go...

Gueiris: Yes, if that is what want. I have been rude in monopolizing your attention.

Gueiris: is still looking into her eyes

Lavinia: No, not at all. I'm so sorry. I'm just... this is wonderful I just...

Lavinia: I have no idea what I want.

Lavinia: My sister... she has always known exactly what she wants and she gets it every time. I just sort of... go with the flow, I guess.

Lavinia: My Lord, someone like me would never be of interest to someone like yourself.

Gueiris: I'll tell you a secret, if it is something you can keep to yourself.

Lavinia: nods.

Gueiris: leans forward and whispers

Gueiris: I'm looking for someone who I can share my love and life with. That could be you, I don't know you well enough to say. That is my interest.

Lavinia: blushes deep, deep red.

Gueiris: I do hope you find what you want, even if you don't know what that is just yet.

Lavinia: I... thank you... My Lord.

Gueiris: and I thank you for pleasure of spending time with me, Hersir. I do hope we have the opportunity again, if you so choose.

Lavinia: I think... I think I would like to see you again.

Lavinia: Gueiris.

Gueiris: The we shall make it happen. A ride, as a suggestion... not traveling, but once can envision it easer.

Lavinia: nods.

Lavinia: I would like that.

Gueiris: And we might encounter each other at some other point in the evening, who could say.

Gueiris: until then.

Lavinia: nods.

Lavinia: Until then.

Lavinia: will climb down off the stool and make her way to a quiet corner to calm herself and try to get the red out of her cheeks.

Katherina: omg Vinnie.... Who was that!

Katherina: thinks from across the room

Coifárë Introduces Themselves to Lavinia

Coifárë: saw the tail end of Lavinia and Gueiris's interaction, and just so happens to be near the quiet corner Lavinia retreated to.

Coifárë: Lord Kyrnon's quite dashing, isn't he?

Coifárë: says playfully.

Lavinia: is fanning herself and jumps slightly atCoifárë's words.

Lavinia: Oh! Um... yes... he's very... charming.

Lavinia: clears her throat and composes herself as best as possible.

Coifárë: grins.

Coifárë: Handsome, too.

Lavinia: Oh... is he? I um... I hadn't noticed...

Lavinia: I'm sorry, I don't believe I've had the pleasure of our acquaintance.

Coifárë: laughs lightly and bows to Lavinia.

Coifárë: Coifare Morinehtar, Colmacil Vilyawen, at your service.

Lavinia: will curtsy.

Lavinia: Lavinia Whitbottom Orsino, Hersir of Feigrsteinn. It's a pleasure, My Leid.

Coifárë: The pleasure is mine, I assure. And I suppose if we're being formal, it's Otorn Coifare Morinehtar Nonayuyo Brescia, Colmacil Vilyawen. But who wants to lug that around all the time? 😉

Lavinia: smiles.

Lavinia: I've recently been informed that perhaps it is ok to be slightly less than strictly formal at times.

Coifárë: Lord Kyrnon's influence, perhaps?

Lavinia: He is... persuasive.

Coifárë: He has many attractive qualities, yes.

Coifárë: will have a constant self-amused smile.

Lavinia: Are you... well acquainted with Lord Kyrnon?

Coifárë: Very much so.

Coifárë: will pause a moment, then laugh.

Coifárë: By which I mean I've known him since he was much younger. He's like a younger brother to me.

Lavinia: Oh! I see!

Lavinia: smiles

Lavinia: Were you with him on his adventures then?

Coifárë: Sadly, no. Gueiris's family did some work for mine, years ago, and we became friends then. We've corresponded regularly since, and socialized when we're in the same city.

Lavinia: Oh, I have been corresponding with him also for a while now. His stories of his travels have always been thrilling for me.

Lavinia: But I had not met him in person until this evening.

Coifárë: Well, I'm glad you both had the opportunity to meet in person. How did you come to be correspondents?

Lavinia: Oh, my mother and his aunt arranged it.

Lavinia: You say his family worked for yours?

Coifárë: Vilyawen is a border territory; they helped us with some bandit activity.

Lavinia: Oh, I see. My family is traditionally a border custodian family as well, in a sense. Feigrsteinn has an entrance to the underdark that we have guarded for many generations.

Coifárë: The Underdark? How fascinating. Have you ever been?

Lavinia: Oh gods no! My family doesn't enter it, they just prevent things leaving. My grandparents used to tell me such horrific stories about what is down there.

Coifárë: Given what came up, I'd be inclined to believe them.

Lavinia: Indeed.

Lavinia: I've spent many summers there and I've always felt uncomfortable being so close to that gateway. I never sleep well there.

Coifárë: I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you're finding Highmark more comfortable.

Lavinia: Oh, Highmark is wonderful. There really is so much to do and see in the city. Have you been here long?

Coifárë: Just a few days. I came by airship and stopped in Mythragal and Shom for some late additions to my wardrobe for the season. Oh, speaking of which...

Coifárë: speaks a quiet command word and their outfit changes from the floral spring-themed suit to a bright summer-themed suit, complete with a faint corona framing their head and a jacket that seems to slowly shimmer through the spectrum.

Lavinia: puts a hand to her mouth in surprise.

Lavinia: Oh! How wonderful! And how gorgeous an outfit!

Coifárë: Oh, thank you. A priest of Corellon has to keep up appearances, of course.

Lavinia: I dare say you'll be starting a trend here.

Coifárë: One can only hope. You looked a little flushed before. Can I get you something to drink?

Lavinia: Oh... um... no thank you, I'm quite alright. I was just a bit... warm. Perhaps I should get some air in the gardens for a bit.

Lavinia: Have you seen the gardens yet? They really are wonderful. Although, I suppose for one accustomed to such magical wonders they may be less amazing.

Coifárë: A wonder is no less so for a lack of magic, andLord Callais's gardens are particularly impressive. Would you care for some company?

Lavinia: Oh, certainly, I would be more than happy for the escort.

Lavinia: smiles.

Coifárë: returns the smile and will gesture politely for Lavinia to lead the way.

Lavinia: will happily do so, glad for the cool spring night air.

Katherina Talks to Nik and Meddles Between Him and Lavinia

Katherina: has just come off the dance floor and has headed over to refresh herself when she spies a cute elf

Katherina: sashays over to where Nik is looking a little lost and smiles up at him

Katherina: Oh Hello there!

Katherina: I think I saw you speaking with my sister earlier? ImKatherina Whitbottom Orsino

Nik: looks over and then down, smiling politely.

Nik: Good evening, Miss Orsino! It's a pleasure to meet you.

Katherina: extends her hand

Katherina: You as well, Lord,,,?

Nik: takes it and after a brief moment of uncertainty, kneels down so he can kiss it.

Katherina: oh, how gallant! ^-^

Nik: Lord Evenor, at your service.

Katherina: Oh, of course! I remember our trip to Therma Alba - what a lovely place. Now I see I shoudl have been a little more jealous of my sister getting to meet you!

Nik: Oh, there are many more interesting attractions there than myself. I can't blame you for preferring to spend your time bathing.

Nik: says modestly

Katherina: grins Oh, don't undersell yourself, my lord! But then this must be your first season?

Nik: Yes, it is! My first visit to Highmark, as well. Or actually, anywhere...

Katherina: Oh! Do you know anyone locally? There's so many fun things to do in the city, especially if it's your first time

Katherina: looks sly

Katherina: I'm sure my sister would love to show you around....

Nik: Well, a few people such as your sister, who have been kind enough to invite me places. I believe I'm to join your family for tea one day soon.

Katherina: Oh, that will be lovely I'm sure, but there's so many fun places where you can be a little less formal, you know? What kinds of entertainments interest you?

Nik: I have no idea, so I would have to say all of them! I have been to a bookstore or two, but beyond that, I've seen very little of the city.

Katherina: Oh well! You must go to see the market district, and the parks, of course, and there are some fine clubs in the lower levels, for cards and dancing and, you know, whatever else may catch your fancy.

Lavinia: And just how do you know about those sorts of places?

Nik: Well, that all sounds lovely...

Nik: turns to see Lavinia and smiles at her.

Katherina: rolls her eyes. Oh Vinnie, you could too if you'd just live a little - and what better excuse than touring the town with a friend? ^-^

Nik: Good evening, Hersir Feigrsteinn, how lovely to see you again 🙂

Lavinia: I am so sorry, Lord Evenor. My sister is quite... impulsive at times.

Nik: Oh, nothing to apologize for!

Nik: Her enthusiasm is most charming 🙂

Lavinia: sighs, exasperated but also relieved.

Katherina: See? Vinnie you need to make arrangements to take him somewhere fun, not just invite him for ~tea with mother~

Katherina: Or he might run away from Highmark and never look back ^-^

Katherina: smiles at Nik

Lavinia: Katherina, you are my sister and I love you, but if you ever speak of the miracle that is tea in such a tone again I will disown you, really I will.

Nik: smiles back, chuckling slightly

Nik: I believe I was inadvertently rude earlier, I'm afraid. I meant to ask if you would care to dance with me. Is it too late for such a request? For either of you?

Katherina: Oh oh! Now, Vinnie, there are plenty of charming tea shops i town, if it's a drink you're after. Maybe you should take your friend to one of them. Hyssops? Lovely little scones, though I know yours are better, sometimes it’s about the atmosphere.

Katherina: There you are - you can make plans over a dance ^-^

Lavinia: Oh, why of course, Lord Evenor! I would be honored.

Nik: Wonderful!

Katherina: How wonderful! I shall leave you two to it - I hope you have a most wonderful evening, my lord, and hope to see you again soon!

Lavinia:Katherina, where are you going this time?

Katherina: Oh, just to get a drink - don't worry about me, sis, go have fun!

Katherina: shoos you away

Lavinia: Don't you shoo me. I am still your ELDER sister.

Katherina: Yes, and Lord Evenor is waiting on you for that dance, don't be rude ;)

Nik: Ah, it was lovely to meet you, Miss Orsino! I look forward to seeing you again.

Katherina: Yes - maybe I shall you look you up for a dance later, in case my sister hasn't shown you a proper good time >:)

Lavinia: Kitty honestly!

Nik: I'll hold you to it!

Katherina: Fantastic! :D

Nik: will rise and offer his hand to escort Lavinia for a dance, then

Lavinia: /me will accept Nik's hand.

Lavinia: Kitty, please do try to behave...

Katherina: Always... ;)

Lavinia: rolls her eyes

Leonora Gives Nik Advice

Leonora: approaches Lord Evenor during a break in his dance schedule

Leonora: Pardon me, are you the Lord Evenor, by any chance?

Nik: Yes, that's correct. I beg your pardon, madam, and you are...?

Leonora: Ah, my apologies. Leonora Palatine, Lady Wengal.

Leonora: I had heard from my mother the Lady Palatine that you might be here this season.

Nik: Oh, Lady Wengal, I have heard your name before, from my parents. How nice to meet you!

Nik: You live in Nachtur, am I correct in that?

Leonora: Yes, that's right, though I'm originally from Thantopolis. My father, the Curiate Palatine, moved us to Nachtur once that was possible. Now I and my husband live there.

Nik: That sounds fascinating! I admit I have often thought it would be quite exciting to visit there. Is it still very... dangerous?

Nik: asks a bit cautiously

Leonora: It can be, if you're not attentive.

Leonora: But so can Highmark, of course.

Nik: So perhaps it would be advisable to have a local guide?

Leonora: Are you planning to visit?

Leonora: I could arrange for my husband's staff to ensure you were well cared for.

Nik: Well, it is always possible. My family have long had an interest there, and now that I'm more able to travel, it's certainly a temptation.

Nik: No specific plans, but perhaps a general hope to see it one day 🙂

Leonora: It's... well I would hesitate to call it beautiful, exactly. But it is a very alive place, if that makes any sense.

Nik: nods

Leonora: So this is your first season, is that right?

Nik: Yes, it is. It's been quite an introduction to the city, I must say.

Nik: What about yourself? Do you ... um, well, is it a social event for you, or are you attending as a chaperone to a younger relative perhaps?

Nik: tries to ask politely why you're here, when you're already old and married ;)

Leonora: Ah, well, that is a long story.

Nik: oh?

Leonora: The business of our estates sometimes brings us to Highmark, and it has been some years since I've been here.

Leonora: Beyond that, I am rekindling some ties with some of the human houses of good families.

Leonora: My husband, who is a bugbear, does not have the same access and facility with these sorts of settings.

Nik: Ah, how interesting! A marriage of diplomacy as well as love :3

Leonora: Yes, quite so. Magga should be here at some of the later events. But, you know, things are sometimes tense in Highmark when it comes to goblin races.

Nik: How closed-minded some can be! The Gaburrim are as noble and ancient a people as any, and with much to be proud of in their history. I have read some about their culture and find it quite interesting.

Leonora: You must be well-read, Lord Evenor. I did not think many elves were interested in my husband's people.

Nik: Ah, it's a hobby of mine, an interest in the past relations between our home city and the goblin folk, including the history of your current home. I am far from an expert by any means, but it is a matter of some fascination to me.

Leonora: Indeed? How interesting.

Leonora: And as for yourself - you are here for the usual reasons?

Nik: I suppose I am! It's my first social event of any kind, so at the moment I am mainly trying to find my footing and get to know people.

Nik: It's a lot to take in.

Leonora: It can be. If you would like some advice from someone who spent several seasons here, before finding a match through a different path? Take your time.

Nik: nods, listening attentively to the wisdom of his elder

Nik: I am in no great rush, I assure you, my lady. I think my parents would be very surprised and a bit alarmed if I came home with a match on my first night out 🙂

Leonora: Ah, let me be clearer then.

Leonora: I would not be upset if you do not find a match on your first year.

Leonora: Or even longer.

Leonora: There are some here who are so invested in the social season as a prize to be won. But what is won is a good marriage - or a bad one. And you will not know that in the winning, but only in what comes after.

Nik: Oh, I see. Yes, that is quite sensible. It is, after all, a decision where one will have many years to live with the results.

Leonora: I would, though, advise you to enjoy yourself. Particularly here, on your first time at the thing.

Nik: I have been, indeed! I trust that there will be many more such occasions to enjoy in the future as well. Shall I expect to see you at any of them? Or have you concluded your ... liaisons?

Leonora: Oh, well, as for that, I am trying to take my own advice and not rush into anything too hastily. My assistant will no doubt keep me busy enough, if I let her do her work.

Nik: Well, then I shall look forward to seeing you again in the future. I will be pleased to pass on your greetings to my parents, of course, Lady Wengal.

Leonora: Likewise, Lord Evenor.

Nik: bows politely

Lavinia and Nik Dance

Lavinia: After cooling down a bit, Lavinia will make her way back into the party to find Lord Evenor.

Nik: Ah, good evening once again, Hersir Feigrsteinn!

Nik: bows gracefully

Lavinia: My Lord. I believe you asked for a dance?

Lavinia: curtsies with a smile.

Nik: Oh, yes, certainly! I hope you will forgive any ignorance on my part of the proper forms, but I would be pleased to dance with you.

Lavinia: Oh, I'm sure it will be fine. I'm not the most skilled dancer either. Most of my coordination gets used in not being stepped on.

Nik: Hopefully I can avoid that much, at least!

Nik: offers his hand to lead you onto the dance floor

Lavinia: laughs and will accompany you to the dance floor.

Lavinia: I must apologize for my sister's behavior before. She means well but has no idea how to comport herself in polite society, or if she does, she pays it little attention.

Nik: No need to apologize on her behalf! She was quite sweet and there was nothing untoward in what she said. At least, I don't think there was...?

Lavinia: You're kind to say so.

Lavinia: Have you been enjoying your evening?

Nik: It's certainly been an eye-opening experience! So many people to talk with and things to see!

Lavinia: And food to try! I hope you managed to make your way to the dessert table also.

Nik: I did manage to sample a few of the delicacies, indeed. There was a strawberry tart that was quite delectable.

Lavinia: Oh yes! I have been trying to crack that one since last season. I have yet to get them quite right.

Nik: Well, if you make another try at it, I'd love to sample yours 🙂

Lavinia: I believe there is some ingredient unique to these gardens that I can't account for.

Lavinia: smiles

Lavinia: I will do so when you come for tea, then :3

Nik: I'll look forward to that. Is there anything that I could bring that would be to your liking?

Lavinia: Oh, that isn't necessary. Your company is perfectly enough. I just hope that mother doesn't go on as she is wont to do.

Nik: Well, if she does, perhaps we can find another occasion - as your sister suggested, perhaps a visit to one of the local parks or dining establishments?

Lavinia: Oh... that... that would be nice.

Nik: smiles

Lavinia: reurns the smile.

Nik: I will be pleased to meet your family, of course. If they are all as delightful as your sister, it will be no hardship 🙂

Lavinia: Oh...Katherina is... somewhat unique.

Nik: Is this also her first season?

Lavinia: Yes, tonight is her debut.

Nik: Well, I hope it's been as memorable an occasion for her as for me.

Lavinia: 's smile will flicker just a little.

Lavinia: I'm... sure she's had fun. She always does.

Nik: nods

Nik: But I shouldn't spend so much time making you think about her. I hope you've also enjoyed the evening?

Lavinia: Oh, it's quite alright, My Lord. It has been a most... enlightening evening. In many ways.

Nik: The gardens are especially lovely, I found. Did you have a chance to visit them?

Lavinia: Oh, yes, Leid Vilyawen and I toured them just before this dance.

Nik: Oh, how lovely 🙂

Lavinia: I've seen them several times now, but they are always enchanting

Nik: I did meet them earlier, very charming! You would always be in good company with them 🙂

Lavinia: Yes, they are a very interesting person. And have you seen their suit?

Nik: I did, it was quite remarkable. Everyone's costumes are so impressive, I feel I shall have to visit a tailor while I'm here to improve my own garb.

Lavinia: I'm considering asking mother if she can order me a dress from Mythragal. I want to be ahead of the fashion trend for once in my life.

Nik: Oh, you look very pretty, though 🙂 A new dress could merely enhance your charms.

Lavinia: You flatter me. I'm afraid that anything I wear is always going to have looked better on Katherina.

Nik: You are quite her equal, don't doubt yourself 🙂

Lavinia: smiles genuinely

Lavinia: It is good of you to say so.

Nik: As it was good of you to invite a newcomer to tea. I'll look forward to it, Hersir.

Nik: bows politely as the dance comes to an end

Lavinia: will curtsy politely in return.

Lavinia: I will as well, My Lord.

Leonora and Coifárë Catch Up

Narrator: (What is Leonora up to?)

Leonora: (mostly wandering around, meeting people, as she hasn't been here in a few years, and since she's already married, and known to be married, has a different profile than many of the young folks here)

Coifárë: approaches at some point between dances.

Coifárë: Lady Leonora, what a surprise to see you here.

Coifárë: Oh, forgive me, Lady Wengal. My apologies.

Leonora: (I don't think we have met before have we ?)

Narrator: (I would imagine you're passingly familiar, from previous seasons. It's fine if Leonora doesn't remember Coifare; she is like a half a decade older.)

Leonora: (ok and what is the proper way to refer to you?)

Narrator: (Leid Vilyawen, or Otorn Morinehtar, either one. The first is noble, the second ecclesiastic.)

Leonora: Ah, Leid Vilyawen! How nice to see a familiar face.

Leonora: After a few years away from here, it seems sometimes as if everyone is a stranger all of a sudden.

Coifárë: And stranger every season, I'm sure. What brings you back to Highmark after your years away?

Leonora: My husband and I are here on some business. Some strictly financial, and some more personal.

Leonora: Nachtur is an excellent place but some sorts of things can only best be done here in Highmark.

Coifárë: I'm sure. How is your husband? I don't think I've seen him this evening.

Leonora: He's well enough. You understand, of course ,that this isn't quite a setting he's comfortable with.

Leonora: Or rather, the stares are a bit much for him.

Leonora: I do expect him to come to some future events.

Coifárë: That's good to hear. I'm sorry for any discomfort he may experience, but I think it can only do people good to broaden their circles of acquaintance. And I recall Lord Wengal can be perfectly charming.

Leonora: Yes, quite charming indeed. He could teach some of these youths a thing or two.

Leonora: Were we all so hapless, when we were eighteen?

Leonora: looks around at the kids trying their best.

Coifárë: chuckles at that.

Coifárë: That observation would have devastated eighteen year old me, but I can't find fault in it. Hopefully time has improved things.

Leonora: So what brings you here this year?

Coifárë: The usual social obligations. And entertainment, of course. Speaking of which, I don't suppose you'd favor a dance?

Leonora: Naturally, it would be a pleasure.

Coifárë: will offer their hand to lead Leonora out to the dance floor.

Leonora: will allow herself to be led.

Coifárë: You mentioned personal reasons for returning to Highmark? Nothing to terrible, I hope.

Leonora: Ah, well, it is a bit complex, and I'm not quite sure how to raise the matter.

Leonora: My husband and I ... we are looking to start a family.

Coifárë: nods.

Coifárë: I believe that's a...concern for a match like yours, yes?

Leonora: Yes, quite. So we're here, both of us, to ensure that we can do so appropriately.

Leonora: Not everyone who is here would be open to such an arrangement, of course. Which makes it a delicate affair indeed.

Coifárë: I can imagine. That is quite the predicament.

Coifárë: Can I assume you're hoping for a Sentinel match if possible?

Leonora: Yes, and really even stronger than 'if possible'. It was a matter of some concern to my dear parents at the settling of my marriage contract with Lord Wengal.

Coifárë: nods.

Coifárë: Well, there are a few available Sentinel scions, at least. Though I suppose 'available' is slightly different in this context.

Leonora: My assistant will no doubt be making a list for me, but if you have any suggestions I would welcome them. Not having been to Highmark in some time, it makes it a little hard to know what might work.

Coifárë: Hmm. Pendragon Uthyr is here for his first season, so he's eligible, if young. Akar Nabari on the other end of the spectrum, but he's not currently attached. I'm sure your assistant knows all this, though.

Leonora: Yes, Nenea is very good. I'd like to help her find someone, but she's not of particularly high station, and it's probably better to find her a match back in Nachtur, or at least in Thantopolis where our families are from.

Coifárë: If you point her out to me, I'll make sure she gets introduced around, at least. She sounds less hapless than the rest. 😉

Leonora: Indeed.

Leonora: (not sure if Nenea is actually around the whole time, but if she is, then I'll point her out)

Coifárë: will note her and be sure to introduce her to some eligible people later.

Lamont Meets Chitara

Stillmarch: is returning from depositing Lord Harcourt with his sister, and will see Chitara

Chitara: is just coming out of the side room where she changed into her Fall dress. “Oh, Lord Stillmarch, right?”

Stillmarch: Yes - I do apologize for earlier

Stillmarch: But also I'm afraid you have me at a disadvantage... madam?

Stillmarch: takes a wild guess at gender

Chitara: grins and curtsey/bows Chitara Kituss, of Ebemar. Sir or Madam both work, really. I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself properly earlier, you seemed... distracted.

Stillmarch: >.>

Stillmarch: me nods, though

Stillmarch: I believe I have heard your name before, yes...

Stillmarch: You mentioned that you knew my cousin, Lord Algernon.

Chitara: Oh, yes. He was stationed in Ebemar for a while, we... formed a friendship.

Stillmarch: squares his shoulders a bit, preparig to do this bit probably not for the first time this evening

Stillmarch: I am sorry to inform you then - he was killed in action some months ago.

Chitara: eyes go wide

I am so sorry, I didn't know. I would never have brought him up. I am so sorry for your loss

Stillmarch: Of course - there was no way for you to know. There have been serval people who have missed his attendance tonight.

Chitara: I imagine there would be. He made friends easily and often. But... I am sorry that the Season is starting on such a note for you.

Stillmarch: Thank you. I feel it would be remiss, in his honour, not to offer you a dance.

Chitara: I would be delighted to dance, but...

Chitara: eyes him worriedly

Chitara: I don't mean to be rude, but are you up for it? There will be other balls, if you're too worn out tonight.

Stillmarch: >.>

Stillmarch: Ahh. Well... perhaps another night would be more fortuitous, then

Chitara: smiles

Chitara: I will look forward to it. I've heard a lot about you

Stillmarch: I admit I would be very interested to know what sort of portrait was painted.

Chitara: Mostly that you were once a man who loved to have a good time, but that grief and responsibility weighed you down. I imagine under the current circumstances, that's even more true than it was before.

Stillmarch: makes a pained face

Stillmarch: I... suppose that is fair enough

Stillmarch: But I am holding up, thank you for your concern

Chitara: I know I am a stranger, but if there's anything I can do... please do not hesitate to ask. Even if you just want to get away for an afternoon.

Chitara: considers for a moment

Chitara: Maybe especially if you just want to get away for a bit, really.

Stillmarch: I will consider that.

Stillmarch: (not that it would change his answer there but was that an honest answer or was there any other intent behind it?)

Chitara: (That was completely honest)

Chitara: I'm glad to hear it. And don't forget to save a dance for me at the next ball, alright?

Stillmarch: Of course. A pleasure to meet you.

Chitara: And it's been lovely to meet you as well. I hope you have a lovely night.

Stillmarch: You as well, madam

Stillmarch: will wait until Chitara is gone and then just depression binge on cheese until Gueiris help him escape

Gueiris Helps Lamont Out of the Party

Gueiris: looks around for anyone he knows and spots Lamont, and heads over

Stillmarch: meant to be leaving, but somehow has gotten hung up at the snack table

Gueiris: Marquess, still holding up?

Stillmarch: looks up in surprise from, and swallows

Stillmarch: Well enough.

Stillmarch: says, tiredly

Stillmarch: How are you finding the evening?

Gueiris: you survived Coifare's attention, so things can't be that bad.

Gueiris: The evening has been better than I expected.

Gueiris: Mind you I walked in with very low expectations.

Stillmarch: oh?

Gueiris: I am not one for such events really... but tonight has been filled with encounters with old friends and a chance to make a new one.

Gueiris: I wonder if I have been wrong avoiding these.

Stillmarch: Well, I'm not one to ask. These things always leave me with a terrible headache.

Stillmarch: I'm glad to hear it's turned out well for you, though.

Gueiris: It would be better if there was a way for you to avoid your headache. What would that take?

Stillmarch: shakes his head slightly

Stillmarch: At this stage, the only thing to be done is to leave... Which I'd intended on some time ago, its just been more of a challenge than anticipated.

Gueiris: If you are having that much trouble leaving, one might suspect that you less inclined to do so than you realize.

Stillmarch: makes a face at that suggestion

Gueiris: chuckles

Stillmarch: I think rather I just don't have the energy to be sufficiently forceful

Stillmarch: Trying not to cause any great offense

Stillmarch: looks out across the sea of people

Gueiris: If you want to leave, I can vanguard you a path to the exit. If you don't want to go home, I can rally Coifare and take thier earlier suggestion.

Stillmarch: Oh - let's... not trouble them further. But a vanguard would be appreciated.

Gueiris: So be it. Let me know when you are ready to go.

Stillmarch: straightens up.

Stillmarch: Oh, any time, honestly.

Gueiris: Lets do it then.

Stillmarch: nods

Gueiris: straightens up and takes on an intimidating, don't bother me look

Gueiris: Follow me.

Gueiris: makes way through the crowd, keeping Lamont close behind

Stillmarch: We should make plans though... meet somewhere less..busy, and catch up

Stillmarch: follows and will try not to get caught up.

Gueiris: For sure!

Gueiris: I know a few places we could go. Have wine or tea, play cards or throw darts.

Gueiris: I seem to recall being warned about playing cards with you.

Gueiris: chuckles quickly and returns to the no-nonsense look

Stillmarch: Yes, darts might be better... >.>

Gueiris: I'll send you a message.

Stillmarch: Perfect.

Gueiris: breaks through the crowd and makes it outside

Stillmarch: takes a deep breath

Stillmarch: There. Thank you. That went much more smoothly

Gueiris: you take care of yourself, Marquess. I'll be in touch in a few days. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need something.

Gueiris: waves a footman down

Stillmarch: I'll look forward to it. I think I can carry it from here.

Gueiris: nods

Gueiris: Back into the fray for me. Good night.

Stillmarch: Good night - I hope it continues well for you.

Gueiris: I will find out.

Gueiris THROWS Victorina Out of the Party

Victorina: Victorina has been circling the party, trying to engage in discussion with anyone who'd be willing to listen about her Cause. She'd been dragged into a few dances; but the partner never stayed long after the music ended.

Coifárë: will have spent a fair amount of time dancing and head to one of the refreshment tables for a drink and a break. Noticing Victorina, they'll approach.

Coifárë: Well hello there. I don't believe we've met; I'm sure I'd remember. Coifare Morinehtar, Colmacil Vilyawen.

Victorina: "Victorina Allement. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with your title."

Coifárë: It's Aethrennari, a minor holding. Allement...a Highmarker name?

Victorina: "We're merchants; imports and exports. I'm from Ebenmar actually."

Coifárë: Oh, fascinating. Welcome to our homeland. Are you here on business?

Victorina: She'll raises her eyebrows in surprise for a moment. "Business. I'm working to get my home greater recognition and rights as the other city states."

Coifárë: Ah, I see. You have your work cut out for you, then.

Victorina: "I'm aware. But I am determined to see it done."

Coifárë: Certainly Nerath owes the people of Ebemar a debt, but we have historically taken some time to repay such.

Victorina: "Truly? Is this debt completely paid off or may I offer an alternative method?"

Coifárë: There's a legitimate argument to be made we'll never pay off having meddled in your affairs and dragged you into our wars on your continent, but, I mean, look at what's happened with Nachtur. That was a crime more than three hundred years old and we're only just now remedying it.

Victorina: "So you intend to remedy all this one at a time? How long will that take you?"

Coifárë: Were it up to me? Sure. But not everyone acknowledges the debt. I know, for instance, that Queen Amaurëa believes it is you who owe us.

Victorina: She'll choke slightly on her drink. "What do we owe her?"

Coifárë: To hear her tell it, freedom, culture, so on and so forth. But she believes much the same of Nerath in general, so I wouldn't consider it quite as insulting as it may sound.

Victorina: Victorina mutters to herself.

Coifárë: The woman is older than the Confederacy, mind you, so please don't take her as indicative.

Victorina: "Who may I take as indicative as the current political mood?"

Coifárë: Now that's an interesting question. Nerath is hardly a monolith, but...I think our noble host may be a useful standard from which to judge.Lord Callais is certainly supportive of the expansion of the Confederacy, but definitely takes the long view of such things. We've been through a lot in the last few years, so many are reticent to embrace further change so soon.

Victorina: "Do you know why so many people are hesitant to recognize new city states?"

Coifárë: We've had three new ones in the last decade, when the Confederacy went the three prior centuries without one. It's a lot of change for some people.

Victorina: "But we shouldn't stop that wave; if we don't change it'll lead to stagnation. And it'll allow others antagonistic to the Confederacy to embrace that change, getting that power and strength instead."

Coifárë: I'm inclined to agree, Miss Allement, though I can do little for your cause, I'm sorry to say.

Victorina: Victorina swallows her frustration and takes a calming sip. "I understand. I also appreciate your candor."

Coifárë: Perhaps I could put you in touch with some of my family? His grace Haryon Vanda is around here somewhere, and he speaks for Aethrennar on the Nerathi Council at the moment.

Victorina: "That...would be helpful. Thank you."

Coifárë: I'll be sure to send him your way when I see him. It's been a pleasure, Miss Allement.

Gueiris: catches sight of the pair and comes over

Coifárë: spots Gueiris and smiles.

Coifárë: Ah, Kyrnon, have you met Miss Victorina Allement of Ebemar?

Gueiris: Oh, we have met before, although not formally.

Victorina: "Have we?"

Gueiris: Lord Gueiris Kyrnon Maranue

Gueiris: does a little bow

Victorina: She studies his face, trying to think of where they might have met..."You seem familiar, but I can't quite place it."

Gueiris: House Maranue has obligations in Highmark to provide securities in the city from time to time.

Victorina: "Security....you mean like militias and city guards?"

Gueiris: yes

Victorina: "So...."

Gueiris: Its not an obligation I particularly enjoy.

Coifárë: raises an eyebrow.

Victorina: She tilts her head to one side. "You've broken up peaceful protests, haven't you?"

Gueiris: you are... vigorous in presenting your interests.

Victorina: "Wait." She leans back and points a finger at him, "You've arrested me before, haven't you?"

Coifárë: barely stifles a laugh.

Narrator: coglances at Gueiris with a look of innocent curiosity.

Gueiris: And to my surprise, here you are at this masquerade .

Victorina: "Well, bail wasn't that hard to get."

Gueiris: Considering you are here, I would assume it was quite simple for you.

Gueiris: I am glad your confinement was minimal.

Victorina: "I wasn't too uncomfortable. The goalers were kind."

Coifárë: (to Gueiris) You do meet interesting people. And arrest them, apparently.

Gueiris: It was a family obligation, that I had to do. I did my best to make sure things we're as lenient as I could.

Gueiris: Not that you seemed incapable of handling worse.

Gueiris: to Victorina

Victorina: "Wait, were you one of the peace keepers I managed to hit? I hope you weren't hurt too badly. It was nothing personal, I assure you."

Coifárë: doesn't manage to completely contain the laughter at that.

Gueiris: I do hope your fist has recovered. I've been hit by worse.

Victorina: She shrugs. "It makes good press, you know."

Coifárë: Being arrested? Or hitting a security officer?

Victorina: "Both."

Gueiris: You do enjoy taking risks. Someone less sympathetic could have responded very differently.

Coifárë: nods to Victorina's statement, looking impressed.

Coifárë: Come now, Kyrnon, she was only standing up for her people and her beliefs.

Victorina: "If it helps people talking then it's worth it."

Coifárë: A sentiment I'm inclined to share.

Gueiris: Not everyone in Highmark has had the luxury of seeing the world like we've had.

Gueiris: Making friends from various places

Coifárë: nods, conceding that point.

Gueiris: I'm not saying what your are standing up for is wrong.

Victorina: "Then what are you saying?"

Gueiris: That you seem to like taking risks.

Victorina: "So? That's a bad thing?"

Coifárë: steps to the side to clearly side with Victorina, putting on a playfully questioning face.

Coifárë: Some might say there's a great deal to be learned in taking a risk now and then.

Gueiris: chuckles

Gueiris: I'm not the villain here. It makes you interesting, to say the least.

Victorina: "Oh. All right. Thank you for the compliment."

Gueiris: so nobody is going to burst in the door and drag you off?

Coifárë: It sounds like that was your job not long ago. Is she in danger from you?

Victorina: Victorina taps her chin as she thinks. "Not yet at any rate."

Gueiris: Please, in this outfit?

Coifárë: laughs.

Gueiris: I could throw you over my shoulder and haul you out if you want?

Victorina: "You want to embarrass our host that much?"

Coifárë: Lord Callais has dealt with worse, I assure you.

Victorina: "Hmmm....."

Coifárë: And the spectacle could be fun. It would get people talking, like you said.

Victorina: "But they would be talking about city state recognition or just the fact that you hauled me off like a sack of flour?"

Gueiris: depends on what you scream on the way out?

Victorina: She sets down her glass and straightens her clothes. "Try not to jostle me too much. I recall your bony shoulders knocking the breath out of me."

Coifárë: smiles at that and gives Gueiris a significant look.

Coifárë: mouths "She's great" where Victorina can't see.

Gueiris: Very well then... although I'm not sure what I'm getting out of this exchange.

Gueiris: sets his glass down as well

Victorina: "What? You offered."

Coifárë: Notoriety?

Gueiris: And you called me on it... I am obliged to comply.

Gueiris: A few shouts before I haul you off would add to the effect.

Victorina: She nods. "HOW DARE YOU! EBEMAR DESERVES TO HAVE A VOICE ON THE COUNCIL AS MUCH AS HIGHMARK!"

Gueiris: YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN LEFT IN THE GOAL!

Victorina: "YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN LEFT OUT IN THE WILDS!"

Gueiris: shoulders Victorina and starts to march her out

Coifárë: You brute!

Coifárë: is smiling wildly at all this.

Victorina: She pounds her fists on his back and continues shouting.

Narrator: (Did y'all have anything else? I have a quick addendum to this scene after Gueiris has taken Victorina outside.)

Victorina: (I can't think of anything else)

Gueiris: (go ahead)

Narrator: Gueiris can 'escort' Victorina outside, where she can make her exit. Gueiris, as you're returning to the party, you'll findLord Callais waiting for you.

Lord Callais: Lord Kyrnon.

Lord Callais: does not look pleased.

Gueiris:Lord Callais, my apologies for such a disturbance. I simply was obliged to act.

Lord Callais: In the future, please allow me to prune my guest list myself. I wouldn't want any further omittances.

Gueiris: I understand and agree. I will contain myself in the future.

Gueiris: smiles and thinks to himself "fun evening indeed"

Lord Callais: nods almost imperceptibly and turns back towards the party.
