Born into great wealth in the city of [[Onighus]], Zinar was the third son of an ancient noble lineage that had given ten conduits to Eluli over the generations. Zinar was raised to expect to take vows as a priest, and perhaps even to become a conduit in turn, as his own great-uncle had. In 734 he achieved this dream and quickly became a prominent, if somewhat quirky, presence at the [[Mausoleum]], specializing in genealogical investigations. All this came to an end in 749 when Zinar suddenly proclaimed that he was marrying for love, and below his station, to a common woman, Laspaina. By Voice rule enforced for centuries, this impermissible union would be grounds for discipline even for a novice, but for one of Eluli's own conduits, was an unthinkable transgression. Zinar was excommunicated from the Corps, forbidden from participating in any Voice sacraments, and indeed, risking his own future interment as an [[Ancestor]].
