New page

The Great Flood of 702 was a catastrophic flood in the city of Omba that resulted in over 1,400 deaths and the displacement of over 15,000 people. The Unuzi River, the lifeblood of the Omban economy, overflowed severely in spring, and the lack of maintenance of dams upriver led to massive flooding in the delta. Politically, the floods were disastrous for the Senate at the time, in particular because many families either had to rapidly move their Ancestors, or let them become waterlogged. Five of the forty-three senators were forced to resign their positions along with all nine of the city's magistrates. In the longer term, the floods further highlighted the weakened position of Omba and the Senate, paving the road for the Bone War a generation later.
