Afra is a younger daughter of the noble Sortusai clan, out of [[Naftusa]]. She came to [[Nemnosti]] as a youth to be an acolyte, and befriended many of the [[Nemni lineage]]. Her training was never intended to prepare her for life as either a Hand priestess or mystic, but rather, for a suitable marriage either within the Nemni clan or amongst the Khutuan nobility. So far, Afra has managed to avoid marriage, but for several years has been the mistress of [[Hojon Nemni]], who is definitely still married. She is currently expecting a baby with Hojon, much to the dismay of many at the cloister.
