Irenca Rheaume

Empress of House Lizard, r. 887-889. An orphan who grew up on the streets and eventually became a rich man's mistress. It was said that she put herself forward as a candidate for the throne after he set her aside for a younger woman; others claim she did it simply as a joke, not expecting to be chosen. She allegedly killed herself after only two years, driven to despair by the weight of her responsibilities (though other rumours suggest she was murdered by supporters of Maressa Dyess, Chana Dyess's daughter.) Many poems and dramatic works have been composed about her tragedy.
