Summary

Eyllia finds out that the situation with the Quom is more complex than it initially appeared. Laris sends Kraaz on a raid to free some orcish prisoners. Koriva consults with Laris and Sajun about where to find the people he was directed to by the spirits, and sets out to find Stormeye. Sahhiru and Induriel tell May about Induriel's dream conversaion with Damasuhu. May has an audience with Abratu and keeps him in check. When Kraaz's forced return pursued, Laris sends out forces to assist, basically starting the real war. Later, Kraaz reports what he saw at the enemy camp.

Session

Session date: 2020-04-12
In Game date:

Eyllia consults with the leader of the captured Quom and tried to find a way forward

<YOAW_Narrator> Eyllia, I believe you gathered some of the quom captains after the brief battle?
<Korivan> I was just fixing up the log -it shodul be all good now
* Eyllia nods
* Eyricia (webchat@199.38.187.252) has joined #gnomeland
* Eyricia will have the captains brought to the Suspire.
* Eyllia is pacing waiting
<YOAW_Narrator> The quom look fairly subdued.
* Eyricia looks them over.
<Eyricia> (quietly, to Eyllia) What do you think?
<Eyllia> (w) theses dont seem anything like the ones I fought before.
<Eyllia> (w) lets hear them out
<Eyllia> (w) but I worry how wise thier actions have been....
* Eyllia will go to the captains
* Eyricia nods.
<Eyllia> Do you know why you were attacked?
* Eyllia looks to see who steps up
* Quom (webchat@199.38.187.252) has joined #gnomeland
<YOAW_Narrator> One of them, another in robes with a large crystal pendant around their neck, steps forward.
<Quom> I am Tabbat. I will speak for us. You attacked us because our brethren attacked you.
* Induriel (Mibbit@mtrlpq4396w-70-53-212-89.dsl.bell.ca) has joined #gnomeland
* Eyllia nods
<Eyllia> You do not claim to follow your brethren's aggressive philosophy. Is this true?
* Quom is now known as Tabbat
* Tabbat shakes his head.
<Tabbat> We take a...longer view of our great work.
<Eyllia> and your short viewing brethern? will they leave you, leave us alone?
<Tabbat> I cannot say. We have little strength here. Less now...
<Tabbat> But we will fight them if they come. They dishonor our people and our god.
<Eyllia> That is good to hear, and may just save what strength you have.
<Eyllia> The Houses are not butchers. We came here to drive off the threat that is stealing our people.
* Tabbat nods.
<Tabbat> As is your right.
<Tabbat> What will you do with us?
<Eyllia> You claim not to be that threat, and so far your actions give you credit.
<Eyllia> but the threat still remains
<Eyllia> You know your brethern better than we do... their magics for portals, for example.
<Eyllia> Share your knowledge, so that we may defend ourselves. Prove that you are not the same cruel fanatics.
<Eyllia> If you do so, my Mother, the Wavemistress, will negotiate a means for you and your people to remain on this plane.
* Tabbat nods, then turns to confer with his compatriots.
* Eyllia looks to Eyricia
* Eyricia gives a small nod to Eyllia.
* Tabbat turns back.
<Tabbat> We can give you the knowledge of such things, but we do not know if our ways will work for you.
<Tabbat> If you wish, we can send some of our people to aid yours in repelling and preventing our brethren's raids.
<Eyllia> We'll start with the knowledge first and work out the details on the rest. Your ships will remain in harbour under watch until a formal agreement is made.
* Tabbat sighs and nods.
<Eyllia> Our trust in the Quom was shattered by your aggressive brethern.
<Tabbat> You've given us little enough reason to trust you, as well.
<Eyllia> It won't be rebuilt in an hour or a day. We will give you the chance to do so.
<Tabbat> As you say.
<Eyllia> We stayed our blades. Out intent was to route you completely.
<Eyllia> small steps and time... if we both hold true, we can both come out ahead.
<Tabbat> Yes. Your people were quite brave, attacking those who offered no return fire. Allow me to commend your marksmanship in striking down those signalling peaceable intentions.
<Eyllia> (that should be 'Our intent')
<Tabbat> I'm sure those were difficult shots.
<Eyllia> And you foolishly set up a fortification in unknown lands, presented an armed force, knowing that your brethern had attacked, and killed using strange and unknown magics.
<Eyllia> If others had been leading this attack, we would not be talking, your ships would be burning, and your people dead.
<Tabbat> There were no inhabitants of these islands. This was merely a precaution, and our 'force' is lightly armed at best.
<Tabbat> But, yes, thank you for your 'mercy.'
* Eyllia sighs
<Eyllia> We are strangers to eachother. Your ways are not our ways, as are ours not yours.
* Tabbat nods.
<Tabbat> This is true.
<Eyllia> Events brought us together aiming for tragedy.
<Eyllia> We cannot change the path that brought us together... that is done.
* Tabbat nods.
<Eyllia> all we can do is try and move on with a better understanding of eachother
* Tabbat sighs.
<Tabbat> Yes, you are right.
<Tabbat> We have endeavored to stop our brethren's raids when we can.
<Tabbat> We will do the same here.
<Tabbat> We share a goal, but little else.
<Eyllia> And your help in aiding us stop thier raids as well, will help you in achieving that endeavor.
* Tabbat will step forward, raising a hand with his palm facing Eyllia.
<Tabbat> It is a gesture of accord among my people.
<Tabbat> ...You touch palm to palm, to signal agreement.
* Eyllia will return the gesture
* Tabbat nods.
<Eyllia> This is the first step... its small but its down the better path.
<Tabbat> We will await your willworkers, to teach them how to detect and stop the raids.
* Eyllia nods
* Eyricia is now known as Sahhiru

Induriel and Sahhiru inform May of recent developments with Damasuhu

* May is, as usual, in her library.
<Sahhiru> Mamitu?
* May looks up.
* Induriel is standing with Sahhiru
* Sahhiru says from the doorway.
<May> Uncle... come in.
<Sahhiru> Induriel has some news for you.
* Sahhiru will step into the library.
* Induriel steps forward as well
* May raises an eyebrow to her former teacher.
<May> What news?
<Induriel> I'm afraid that I have had another encounter with Lady Morelos. She arranged a meeting in the Dreamlands between myself and Lord Damasuhu.
<Induriel> It seems he grows impatient to have you declare your allegiance to his Emperor...
* Induriel describes the meeting once more
<May> ...
<May> ...
<May> ...
<May> ...Fuckberries.
<Induriel> Ah, quite. :/
<Sahhiru> That's roughly the same sentiment I had.
* May puts down her quill and rubs her temples.
<May> This is... bad.
<Induriel> I think he is being completely unreasonable, of course... but I'm afraid no advice from me is likely to deter him.
<May> No, I understand. What did you tell them?
<Induriel> I tried, rather feebly I'm afraid, to persuade him that it would be foolish to waste resources fighting each other.
<May> I appreciate the effort... but I believe it's long past that point. The auguries are very clear. War will come.
<May> And now we face a double enemy.
<Induriel> Are you ready for it?
<Induriel> I keep trying to think of strategies you could use to delay the reckoning...
<May> I... don't know.
<May> Are any of us?
<Sahhiru> One is never 'ready.' Merely more or less prepared.
<Induriel> I do think we should consult Lord Gladius. He may have some insights to offer.
<Sahhiru> And our preparations continue apace.
<May> Has he returned from preperations in the south?
<Induriel> I don't know... Sahhiru?
<Sahhiru> I believe he is here at the moment. It is perhaps stretching his agreement with us, but he's given significant support to our efforts.
* May nods.
<Induriel> Surely he will offer *advice
* freely, at leasst.
<May> We can hope so.
<Induriel> Also, if it were possible to put something else at the top of Lord Damasuhu's list of concerns in some way...
<May> How so?
<Sahhiru> Present him with a larger target.
<Sahhiru> Or more pressing threat.
<Sahhiru> But I find myself lacking one at the moment.
<Induriel> If there were an alternative claimant to the title...
<Induriel> In normal realms, a family member would have first claim.
<Sahhiru> Turathi was not like other realms.
<Sahhiru> (Turath*)
<Induriel> I do not know who Ratha's broodmates were... if indeed there were any whom Ratha had not already slain.
<Induriel> But... hmmm....
<Sahhiru> Arkhos and Terus.
<Sahhiru> Her only known siblings.
<Induriel> And did they have descendants?
<Sahhiru> Arkhos, certainly, if any are left alive. Terus...no one knows.
<Sahhiru> But we have discussed this. Turath will not accept an Arkhosian heir.
<Sahhiru> And Turath had no law for succession.
<Sahhiru> There was no need.
<Induriel> But if there *were
* some possible heir whose claim was potentially stronger than Dananu's, that would be a priority. Or at least a distraction.
<Induriel> So would it be possible for us to find one? Or... if need be, to make up one?
<May> Is there a way to get between him and Lady Morelos? Pit them against each other?
<Sahhiru> For now, it seems Morelos hasn't taken a side.
<Sahhiru> Though she is clearly more friendly with Damasuhu than with us.
<May> She already took a side against us when she sent us that... thing... upstairs.
<Induriel> I do not see how... I don't see why she would want to get involved either way.
<Sahhiru> She's already involved.
<Sahhiru> But I don't know that the...object is a sign of disfavor.
<Induriel> And whatever you think of that thing... I do not think you want to count her as an enemy if she does not openly consider herself so.
<Sahhiru> It is a double-edged sword, to be certain, but...
<Induriel> Can you not use it here?
* Sahhiru sighs.
<Sahhiru> No.
<Sahhiru> It is too dangerous.
<May> Because of what it is or because of what it would attract?
<Sahhiru> Yes.
<Sahhiru> Donning the crown means making a claim to higher power.
<May> If it's that dangerous, let's send it to Damasuhu.
<Sahhiru> And all that comes with it.
<Sahhiru> That's as likely to doom us as him.
<Induriel> How so?
<Sahhiru> It is a gamble either way. There's always the possibility that whoever wears it can master it.
* Induriel absently rubs his eyes
* May sighs.
* Tabbat is now known as Other_Orc
<May> Then it is a last resort. If all else fails...
<Induriel> I'm not particularly in favour of the idea of your using it...
<May> Me neither. But there may come a time we don't have a choice.
<Sahhiru> We are not to that point just yet.
<Induriel> If it is the only way... Lady Morelos did say it was rightfully yours.
<May> No, not yet.
<May> We can still fight.
<Induriel> In any case: if they summon me to another dream meeting, what should I say?
<May> I... don't know yet. We need to consider this carefully.
<Induriel> I did ask Lady Morelos about her interest in all this.
<May> What did she say?
<Induriel> She indicated that she thought it was ridiculous for us to fight over scraps...
<Induriel> She does seem to have more of a relationship with Damasuhu and his master - she did arrange the meeting as a favour to them, after all - but I suspect she finds it an annoyance.
<May> Hmmm...
<Induriel> Perhaps she would be open to helping us, if it would spare trouble for her own realm.
<May> Maybe we can use that.
<Induriel> Perhaps.
<Induriel> I would not rely on it, of course. But we should keep all possibilities in mind.
<Sahhiru> She has seemed mostly to want her realm left out of events on this plane.
<May> Perhaps we should contact Lady Morelos ourselves.
* Induriel raises an eyebrow at that
<May> I have a new friend we could speak to who might be able to help. She also has an interest in dreams.
<Induriel> Oh?
* Sahhiru considers.
<Sahhiru> Opening negotiations directly with another local leader...it's worked for us in the past.
<May> If it fails we're exactly where we were before.
* Sahhiru nods.
<Induriel> It risks tipping your hand if she passes it on to Damasuhu... but it does sound like it could be worthwhile.
<Induriel> Lady Morelos will doubtless have a price, though.
<May> We'll burn that bridge when we come to it.
<Induriel> Er... interesting metaphor. :/
* May smirks.
<Induriel> In any case: by all means consult this friend of yours.
<Induriel> If you trust her discretion.
<May> Oh she's discrete, all right.
<May> Would you like to meet her? She loves ritualists.
<Induriel> Ah, certainly. Who is she?
<May> Lanwa, leader of the Rucina. Her people recently decided to help us.
<Induriel> (These are more Elduar? Or not?)
<YOAW_Narrator> (They're elves. ;) )
<YOAW_Narrator> (Though not Vanniloran.)
<May> They're elves. Do you think you can be civil?
<Induriel> (More *rebel
* elves, you mean. Sigh... :/ )
* Induriel looks at her scornfully
* May grins.
<Induriel> I am *always
* civil. As civil as they deserve.
<May> I'll hold you to that. Her help will be crucial in the coming days.
* Other_Orc is now known as Stormeye
<Induriel> Well, let us find out what she has to say.
<Induriel> As long as you're sure *she
* will be civil, that is...
* May rolls her eyes.
* Large_Orc (webchat@199.38.187.252) has joined #gnomeland
<May> I'll try to set up a meeting. In the meantime we should visit Lord Gladius if he is available. I would not send for him as if he were my servant.
<Induriel> Certainly not! :O
* Sahhiru is now known as Kraaz

Kraaz consults with Laris before his raid

* Kraaz will come to talk to Laris about the raid.
<Kraaz> Cousin.
* Kraaz says, grinning.
<Laris> Yes?
* Laris smiles in return
<Kraaz> I'm picking companions for the raid. I wanted to talk to you a bit more about our goals.
<Laris> Of course.
<Kraaz> Are soldiers the priority? Shamans? Everyone we can to cause as much chaos?
* Laris considers that for the moment
<Laris> Shamans are often leaders of their people - if you liberate them, they may be instrumental in bringing others to our side.
* Kraaz nods.
<Laris> So I would advise going for shamans first if you can, then soldiers, then anyone else you can manage. It is not simply about freeing those who are of most use to us - if we free only the strong, we risk appearing, hm.... mercenary.
* Kraaz nods.
<Kraaz> I agree, but we also need all the strength we can gather.
<Kraaz> I think your order or priority makes sense.
<Laris> But I will trust your judgment as well. If you see an opportunity, seize it. If you see that rescuing the shamans poses a greater risk, you can make that decision.
* Kraaz grins.
<Kraaz> I do not shy from risks.
<Laris> I know, cousin. I mean no slight to your bravery. But above all, my priority is to have as many of you return as possible. As you said, we need strength.
* Kraaz nods.
<Kraaz> I'm learning what risks are worth taking, and which are vanity. I'll will not fail our people.
<Laris> I know you will do what is best.
* Kraaz will reach out to shake Laris's hand.
* Laris will return the gesture and, a bit awkwardly, pull him closer to hug him.
* Kraaz pulls Laris into a big bear hug.
* Laris is squished but glad
<Laris> Go safely, and I look forward to hearing of your victories :)
<Kraaz> I'll see you when we return, with more allies.

Abratu makes an unsuccessful pitch to May

<YOAW_Narrator> May, you'll be informed that a Turathi representative has arrived with an escort from the southern fortifications. He's here to discuss trade.
* May will look extremely surprised at that.
* May will recieve them in the great hall with Sahirru there.
* Kraaz is now known as Abratu
* Abratu will be escorted in. He's wearing the armor and garb of a Turathi noble cavalryman.
* Abratu stops before May and makes a perfunctory bow.
* May nods.
<May> Welcome.
<Abratu> Siru Lalu, thank you for seeing me.
<Abratu> Your countrymen to the south seek to trade for supplies in your city. We were informed we you need to have your leave to do so.
* Abratu says this grudgingly.
<May> My countrymen?
<Abratu> Emperor Dananu and the Green Steel Legion.
<May> I see.
<May> Exactly what country are we men of, then?
<Abratu> The great empire of Bael Turath, Siru.
<May> Ah. And what do my countrymen wish to trade?
<Abratu> Furs, spices, and incense.
<May> And what do they ask in return?
<Abratu> Food and cloth.
<May> I see. I'm afraid that might be a bit of an issue. You offer luxury goods for staples and right now we have few to offer, what with all of the recent refugees asking for our aid.
<Abratu> That may be, but is it not for your merchants to make that decision? Surely they know they will starve if they trade away too much. We are looking merely to trade for what is available.
<May> Mmmm... it's strange. These refugees began showing up from the south not long ago, telling stories of pillaging and conquest. We aren't sure what to make of it.
<Abratu> I'm sure many have told such stories of Turath's might in the past. Many in this very region, when Turath conquered it over a century ago.
<May> Indeed. But that was, as you say, over a century ago. Things change.
<Abratu> Yet a scion of Turath still rules here.
<Abratu> By right of conquest.
* Eyllia (vess@CPEbc4dfb296af3-CMbc4dfb296af0.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com) Quit (Ping timeout: 204 seconds)
<May> A daughter of Turath rules here. That much is true.
<Abratu> Then Turathi should certainly be welcome here.
<May> All are welcome here... provided they come in peace and goodwill for all our inhabitants. But you must understand, I have viziers, counselors, nobles, merchant advisors. And with the run on necessity goods a trade decision like this will take some time to decide. Politics. I'm sure you understand.
* Abratu visibly restrains himself.
<Abratu> Of course, Siru. I will await your decision. I will let you know where I can be reached once I have secured accommodations.
<May> Oh, but of course you are welcome to stay here in the keep as our guest. I'll even provide you with a personal escort to see to your safety.
* May looks at Sahirru.
* Large_Orc is now known as Sahhiru
* Sahhiru gives the a tiny smile and nod.
<Abratu> I would be grateful for a place here, Siru, but I have no need of an escort. I am a soldier, and surely Nesu Abamatu is safe.
<May> Oh but I insist. I pride myself on securing the safety of all my guests. You never know where pockets of anti-imperialist sentiment will crop up these days.
* Abratu scowls, but nods.
* May smiles.
<May> Very well then. I'll have rooms prepared for you immediately.
<Abratu> Thank you, Siru Lalu.
* Abratu manages to get out.

Laris escalates the situation at the pass as Kraaz's raiders return

<YOAW_Narrator> Your scouts are deployed further out than usual, to keep watch for Kraaz's return. A message is relayed to you that they have been spotted, but are being pursued by a sizable contingent of Turathi.
* Laris will get the archers readied in case we need to defend
<Laris> (or get Varinia to get the archers ready, anyway ;)
<YOAW_Narrator> There's concern that they won't reach the fortifications before they are overtaken.
<Laris> (hm, okay. Let's send archers out along the mountainside to shoot down at the pursuers if they can, and dispatch undead troops to harry them as well...)
<Laris> (the veteran undead if I can?)
<YOAW_Narrator> (Okie doke. Can I get you to roll me a Warfare (Command) test?)
<Laris> yup
<Laris> !roll 8d6
* Korivan rolls for Laris: [ 8d6 ] getting [ 2 1 2 5 6 3 5 6 ] for a total of [ 30 ].
<Laris> (so, 27)
<YOAW_Narrator> (Are you accompanying them, or just sending out your subcommanders?)
<Laris> (I'll lead the undead, Varinia can lead the archers, Rufus and co can stay back to guard the walls)
<YOAW_Narrator> The commander of the Turathi contingent camped at the walls will try to ask what's going on.
<Laris> (yeah he doesn't get to know. how many of them are there?)
<YOAW_Narrator> (Thirty.)
<Laris> (I'll have them rounded up if possible. Not attacked, just contained, unless they fight back.)
<YOAW_Narrator> (Like, surrounded by soldiers?)
<Laris> (yeah.)
* Sahhiru is now known as Turathi_Sergeant
<Turathi_Sergeant> What is the meaning of this?
<Laris> Remain calm.
<Laris> This is for your own security.
<Turathi_Sergeant> From what?
<Turathi_Sergeant> Raiders? We'll fight.
<Laris> That's what I'm trying to avoid.
* Laris will turn most of his attention to the incoming forces but keep half an eye on this guy so he doesn't get stabbed in the back.
<Turathi_Sergeant> (Well, you'll have to move out and leave him for Rufus to guard if you're going out to meet them.)
<Laris> (that's legit, I'll leave him under the guard of those back at the wall, then.)
<Laris> (Varinia will also have instructions not to attack preemptively, but to hold fire unless we see the Turathi take offensive action)
<Turathi_Sergeant> (Okay, roll me Warfare (Tactics) please)
<Turathi_Sergeant> (ww)
<YOAW_Narrator> (But it stands. :p )
<Laris> !roll 8d6
* Korivan rolls for Laris: [ 8d6 ] getting [ 6 6 4 2 6 2 2 4 ] for a total of [ 32 ].
<Laris> (28)
<YOAW_Narrator> Laris' units are well-trained, and they are able to close with Kraaz's contingent before the Turathi overtake them. It looks as though the Turathi aren't stopping.
* Abratu is now known as Kraaz
* Kraaz has a large group, with some that look like warriors or casters, but also many children.
<Kraaz> Good to see you, cousin.
<Laris> (what shape are Kraaz and co in? injured/tired?)
<Laris> You as well. Get behind us, we'll cover you.
* Kraaz and his men look pretty tired, but you don't see any major wounds among them.
* Kraaz frowns.
<Kraaz> We can stand with you.
<Laris> All right. Get the children and elders behind us, and any injured. We do not want to engage full-scale here if we can avoid it. We retreat back to the walls.
* Kraaz nods.
* Kraaz will keep his men on the flanks, to make sure they Turathi can't maneuver around you.
* Laris will keep us backing up, then - the further we draw them in, the closer they get to the walls.
<YOAW_Narrator> The Turathi will begin firing arrows once they get in range, but it's scattered thanks to maintaining the speed of the advance.
<YOAW_Narrator> They'll be at you right about when your troops reach the gates.
<YOAW_Narrator> You can try to get through, but that might leave the gate vulnerable, or you can make your stand there, with cover from troops on the wall.
<Laris> (get the children/noncombattants through the gate, covering it, and make our stand there)
* ghost_bro sets mode: +ooo Induriel Korivan Kraaz
<Laris> (at least, that's what I'll try to do)
* ghost_bro sets mode: +oo Laris Zarantine
<YOAW_Narrator> (Okay, one more Warfare (Command) test, and a Fighting test)
* ghost_bro sets mode: +o YOAW_Narrator
* Korivan sets mode: +o May
* Laris changes topic to 'Everybody likes them Kraaz snugs'
* lan_phone (uid135102@id-135102.charlton.irccloud.com) Quit (Quit: Connection closed for inactivity)
<Laris> (okay, warfare first)
<Laris> !roll 8d6
* Korivan rolls for Laris: [ 8d6 ] getting [ 3 1 5 5 3 5 6 2 ] for a total of [ 30 ].
<Laris> (27)
<Laris> !roll 4d6
* Korivan rolls for Laris: [ 4d6 ] getting [ 4 3 4 4 ] for a total of [ 15 ].
<Laris> (only 12 on my fighting)
<YOAW_Narrator> Laris' troops turn to receive the charge, throwing pilae then setting shields and spears. The archers keep volleys going, dropping enemies. The cavalry crash upon the undead infantry, but are thrown back in disarray. The fight is brief and brutal, but the Turathi turn and retreat under fire, with few losses on the allied side.
<Laris> (okay - I don't want to pursue them, just drive them back enough to let us retreat behind our wall when we have the chance)
<YOAW_Narrator> (Your troops will have had to subdue the waiting 'trade caravan.' What do you want done with them?)
<Laris> (we don't really have the capacity to keep prisoners, I assume)
<Laris> (seeing as we're already low on food and supplies, plus space...)
<Laris> (can I have the opportunity to talk to their leader? or is it something where I have to make a snap decision?)
<YOAW_Narrator> (Yeah, I mean, you can hold them before deciding what to do.)
<Laris> (I'll do that, then.)
<Turathi_Sergeant> This was a mistake, Legatus.
<Laris> Your coming here? I agree.
* Turathi_Sergeant frowns and sighs.
<Turathi_Sergeant> You're only bringing fire and fury down upon your heads.
<Laris> We don't wish to war with you, but if you insist on it, we will defend ourselves.
<Turathi_Sergeant> What do you plan to do with me and my men?
<Laris> You can choose to join us, or we can execute you. Your choice. consider your options carefully.
<Turathi_Sergeant> I am no rebel.
<Laris> How about the soldiers under your command?
* Laris will raise his voice to address them
<Laris> Be it known that your commander elects to die, and give up your lives as well, rather than surrender and join us.
<YOAW_Narrator> (Roll me Persuasion)
<Laris> (plus intimidate, or no?)
<YOAW_Narrator> (Yes :) )
<Laris> !roll 4d6
* Korivan rolls for Laris: [ 4d6 ] getting [ 3 3 6 5 ] for a total of [ 17 ].
<Laris> (14)
<YOAW_Narrator> There's a pause, then one of the men says, "I'm not dying for him and a dead empire." He's echoed a moment later until most of the troupe seems to have acquiesced.
* Laris will direct his gaze back to the sergeant then.
<Laris> Do you still feel the same, commander? We have places for strong fighters and I would not kill you pointlessly.
* Turathi_Sergeant returns Laris' gaze steadily.
<Turathi_Sergeant> Were I the kind to sell my loyalty for my life, I would be of no use to you.
<Laris> Very well.
<Turathi_Sergeant> It is good that you will spare my men, but I will meet my ancestors gladly.
* Laris nods and will salute him before having him executed, then. No big public show or anything, just do it quietly out of the way.
* Laris will have the remaining soldiers divided up among our various troops, with instructions to make sure they are kept an eye on but otherwise to be treated as regular recruits.
* Laris will then make sure word is sent via our scroll back to May - that we have freed some prisoners and found some orcish allies, that our forces were pursued and engaged but we pushed them back, now waiting for the next move.
<Laris> (oh and that jackhole who I sent you, now has no men left, I stole them ;)

<May> Good. He'll make a great spell ingredient!

Korivan consults with Laris and Sajun about the message form the spirits

* Korivan will seekout his newest tribe member when he comes down off the mountain
* Laris can be found on the wall, where he's keeping an eye on things.
<Korivan> Lugal...
* Korivan has a cool new scar on his shoulder.... kinda like yours tbh :V
* Laris eyes that
<Laris> Are you all right?
<Korivan> Yes @_@
<Korivan> I have communed with the spirits.
<Laris> What happened?
<Korivan> The Lighnint has granted me its power.... though I must honour my word to it when I can @_@
<Korivan> (Lightning)
<Korivan> It, and the Moutain, direct em to seek allies among the orcs.
* Laris nods slowly
<Laris> That seems like a wise course of action.
<Korivan> Yes...
<Laris> Will you and Kraaz go out searching for these allies?
<Korivan> There are two in particular that I must seek
<Korivan> I will speak with him.
<Korivan> But... I know the battle will come soon
* Laris nods
<Laris> Who are the ones you must seek?
<Korivan> I can appease the lighting after.... if I cannot meet the demands of the mountain in time.... then so be it, we will fight without its strength @_@
<Korivan> Ahgrath Stonesleeper.... and the Stormeye @_@
<Laris> Perhaps we can ask Sajun for her advice on how best to make an approach to them.
<Korivan> Yes.
<Laris> I had hoped Kraaz might lead a raid on the prison camps. Would it be possible for you to make this venture alone, or do you need support? If we don't have time for both, we will need to prioritize.
* Induriel (Mibbit@mtrlpq4396w-70-53-212-89.dsl.bell.ca) has joined #YOAW
<Korivan> Kraaz's strength will seve you better. There are others who can attend me.... if needed @_@ But first - Sajun.
* Laris nods
<Laris> Very well.
<Laris> I can take you to her.
<Korivan> goood... @_@
* Laris will do so, then.
* Sajun (webchat@199.38.187.252) has joined #YOAW
<Laris> Good day, Sajun, may we speak with you?
<Sajun> Lugal, gaath. Of course.
<Sajun> How may I aid you?
* Laris looks to Korivan on that one.
<Korivan> I have spoken to the sprits of this place.... the mountain... the lightning...
* Korivan touches his shoulder
<Korivan> They have counciled us to seek allies among your people. And so... I mus seek them @_@
<Sajun> The mountain clans are not my people.
* Korivan nods
<Sajun> But I know a little of them.
<Sajun> What is your goal?
<Korivan> I seek Agrat Stonesleeper.... and Stormeye @_@
<Korivan> do you know of them?
* Sajun nods.
<Laris> Could you give advice on how best to approach them, if we wish them to join with us as allies? Or even where they might be found?
<Sajun> All the plainsfolk know of the Stormeye. He is a raider chief. He is beloved by his people and hated by his rivals.
<Sajun> He respects strength of arm and will.
* Korivan nods
<Sajun> Agrat Stonesleeper...the earth priestess. She dwells in a deep cavern, the better to commune with her patron.
<Sajun> It is said she is the mother of many of the mountain clans, but that is legend.
<Laris> Thank you, this is helpful.
<Laris> We also hope to have Hraal Kraaz lead a raid on the prison camps soon. Would there be perhaps one or more of your people who would be willing to accompany him?
<Sajun> My son, Urgot, would gladly accompany you.
<YOAW_Narrator> One of the nearby orcs, a young warrior, missing a hand, looks up and nods decisively.
<Laris> This is an honor, thank you.
<Sajun> It is a debt repaid. You saved my people. We will aid you in whatever way we can.
<Laris> I hope that we will be able to aid more of your people by so doing.
* Sajun nods.
<Sajun> I pray that is so.
* Laris looks over to Korivan to see if he has more questions/matters to discuss
* Korivan considers
* Korivan shakes his head.
<Korivan> Perhaps.... after the raid.... someone will have more knowledge of the Stonesleeper
* Sajun nods.
<Laris> Very well. if you find the Stormeye, then you can return to let us know, and perhaps by then we will have others here as well.
* Korivan nods
<Laris> Let's move as soon as possible on this.
<Laris> We don't want to keep the spirits waiting.
<YOAW_Narrator> (Okay, so, sending the raid while Korivan goes to the Stormeye?)
<Korivan> (f he can be found esaily, yes - gotta strike quickly, as the lightning said ;)
<Laris> (yeah I think that's the goal)
<YOAW_Narrator> Who all is Korivan taking with him?
<Korivan> (Hmmm.... I'm tryng to remember who all my options are :V)
<Korivan> (sec Hades)
<Korivan> (Erret and another warrior if Kraaz can spare them... And Apprentices)
<YOAW_Narrator> (That's workable, I'm sure.)
* Sajun can give a rough idea of the Stormeye's territory.
<Korivan> How best can he be approached?
<Sajun> Tell his people you were sent by the storm, but be prepared to prove it.
<Korivan> Hmm. Very well @_@
<Korivan> I will gather my people and go now.
* Sajun nods.

Korivan consults with the Stormeye

* Korivan will do so, checking in briefly with Kraaz to let him know what's up. If there is any chance along the way, I'd like to get a sense of what this power is that came with this scar @_@
<YOAW_Narrator> (Roll me Will.)
<Korivan> (any specialties apply?)
<YOAW_Narrator> (What do you have again?)
<Korivan> (dedications, rituals, and invoking)
<Korivan> (dedication, rather)
<YOAW_Narrator> (Invoking applies)
* Korivan rolls [ 6d6 ] getting [ 5 3 4 1 1 2 ] for a total of [ 16 ]
<Korivan> (15)
<YOAW_Narrator> With a little trial and error, Korivan discovers he can call lightning, though if he does it more than once every hour or so, it will hurt him. He has a little facility for lower-powered electricity magic, but that'll take some practice.
<Korivan> (nice)
<YOAW_Narrator> The trip to the Stormeye's territory is not far, but is a bit arduous in this terrain.
* Korivan knows they weill eventually eb challenged
* Sajun is now known as Orc
<Korivan> (though we will kee an eye out for ambushes or scots or whoever)
<Korivan> (scouts)
<YOAW_Narrator> As it happens, Korivan's group comes across a group of hunters, who will approach warily.
<Orc> (Goblin) What are goblins doing up this high?
<Korivan> We Seek The Stormeye @_@
<YOAW_Narrator> The trio of orcs look at each other, then back to Korivan incredulously.
<Orc> Why?
<Korivan> I follow the counsel of the spirits.... of the Sorm @_@
* Orc looks like he can't decide if you're crazy or lying, but nods.
<Korivan> (Storm)
<Orc> We'll take you to him.
* Korivan nods and will go with
* Orc leads Korivan and his party through the mountains, to a high valley with good tree cover and a small stream running through it. The orc camp sits alongside it, just at a small fall.
<YOAW_Narrator> Your arrival gets some attention from the orcs, who all mark your passing.
* Orc leads you to the largest structure, a woven-reed structure dwarfing all the others in the village.
<Orc> Wait here.
* Korivan will wait with his small group
* Korivan will take this time to listen to the ancestors, thiugh he himagines they are all grumbling about dealing with these orcs
<YOAW_Narrator> (More or less, yes)
* Orc is now known as Large_Orc
<Korivan> (if any of them have anything useful to say I'll pay more attention, even if it warning for speficif things to watch out for ;p)
* Large_Orc steps out from the doorway, accompanied by the the orc hunter and another, older, scarred orc.
* Large_Orc is huge even by orcish standards, supremely muscled and scowling.
<Large_Orc> Who seeks the Stormeye?
<Korivan> I do. I am Gaath Hrieffen Eryvet Korivan @_@
* Korivan looks up at the orc in his usually semi-focused way
<Large_Orc> Why have you come, Gaath Hrieffen?
* Korivan takes in the three of them, wondering which of the two new orcs is actaully Stormeye
<Korivan> You know of the Green Steel Legion? Mercenaies who push ther claim.... as heirs to a dead empire? @_@
* Large_Orc looks to his companion, then nods.
<Large_Orc> We know of them.
<Korivan> My tribe are part of an.... alliance, who seek to stand against them @_@
<Korivan> I have sought the favour of the spirits in the coming battle..... and the Stome has sent me here, in search of you @_@
* Large_Orc frowns.
* Korivan gesturs vaguely to the radial scar across his shoulder
* Tabbat (webchat@199.38.187.252) has joined #YOAW
* Tabbat is now known as Other_Orc
* Korivan says vaguely so it coudl be to any of them really
* Other_Orc raises the eyebrow over his eye not covered by an eyepatch.
<Other_Orc> Storm sent you here?
<Korivan> Yes.
* Large_Orc scowls.
<Other_Orc> What proof do you offer?
<Korivan> And has favoured me with its power.... but A bargain was made @_@ And so I have come
<Korivan> If your shamans cannot sense it..... I will demonstrate @_@
* Korivan looks around the clearin for an appropirtatley dramatic target that won't get us killed of it gets zapped by lightning ;)
<YOAW_Narrator> There's a large tree nearby that's visible from the whole village.
* Korivan will concentrate and call the lightning down from the otherwise clear sky to strike it
* Other_Orc steps forward.
<Other_Orc> There are others who can do the same, without Storm's favor.
<Korivan> Yes.
<Other_Orc> That scar was his doing?
<Korivan> Yes.
<Other_Orc> Are you willing to prove that as well?
* Korivan looks at him and considers.
<Korivan> How would you have me do so? @_@
<Other_Orc> (Roll me Awareness, please)
<Other_Orc> (Magical stuff applies)
* Korivan rolls [ 6d6 ] getting [ 4 6 5 1 4 6 ] for a total of [ 26 ]
<Korivan> (21)
<YOAW_Narrator> He gathers power quickly for some sort of working. Korivan has but a moment to respond, if he wishes.
* Korivan will brace himself to be tested, fortifying his will, and gather his energy (and faith) to respond if necessary @_@
<YOAW_Narrator> (Roll Will for me)
<Korivan> (any specialties?)
<YOAW_Narrator> (I don't think so.)
* Korivan rolls [ 5d6 ] getting [ 3 2 2 5 6 ] for a total of [ 18 ]
<YOAW_Narrator> A bolt streaks out from the orc's hand, streaking towards Korivan's chest. It curves at the last moment and seems to streak into the scar on Korivan's shoulder, now glowing brightly.
* Other_Orc grins and reaches to pull aside his eyepatch, revealing a glowing orb of crackling electricity in the socket.
* Other_Orc is now known as Stormeye
<Stormeye> Welcome, brother.
* Korivan will grin in return, toothily, and nod
<Stormeye> Please, come, let us offer you meat and drink, and we will discuss these Imperial fools.
<Korivan> Yes, let us @_@

Kraaz and Laris consult after the raid

* Kraaz will probably see to his folks and the rescuees, then seek out Laris.
<Kraaz> Salve cousin. That's the word, right?
* Kraaz says with a smile.
<Laris> That's correct. I'm glad to see you return safely.
* Laris says with a smile in return
<Laris> What happened?
<Kraaz> We accomplished our goal, more or less, thanks to you and the rest.
<Laris> That's good.
<Kraaz> There's more we could try to rescue, but I'm betting they'll up the number of guards after this.
* Laris nods
<Kraaz> Still, harassing them...that's something my -our- people can do.
<Laris> What kind of resistance did you meet with?
<Kraaz> Little enough where we were able to strike, but...
<Kraaz> I've never seen anything like it.
<Kraaz> Their camp...it was a city itself.
<Kraaz> It went for miles. I knew they were thousands, but...I didn't entirely believe it until I saw it.
* Laris listens, frowning
<Kraaz> I trust in our soldiers, and this is as good a position as any, but, when they come...well, may Bane favor us.
* Laris nods
<Kraaz> (Sorry, he would have said warriors rather than soldiers)
<Laris> Unless something unexpected happens, we won't be able to hold this place indefinitely. We hold for as long as we can, to give those behind us longer to gather allies and prepare, and then we draw back. We make it costly for them to advance, and lead them further from their supply lines.
* Kraaz nods.
<Kraaz> Something like a feint, but stronger for being set.
* Laris nods
<Kraaz> (This is in Laris's tent, right?)
<Laris> (yeah)
<Kraaz> (I'm assuming there's a table with maps...)
<Laris> (yeah, that seems likely)
* Kraaz will head to the table and trace a line on the map with his finger.
* Laris looks at what he's pointing to
<Kraaz> There are passes around here we'll need to secure, possibly help from our new orc allies, assuming Korivan has returned successfully?
<Laris> Yes, Gaath Korivan has been successful in gaining support from some of the orcs. Perhaps there might still be others who would join with us in this fight. What of the prisoners you brought with you, are there fighters or will-workers among them?
<Kraaz> Some. I freed all I was able to without risking *too
* much. ;)
<Laris> Good.
<Kraaz> So, as you saw, there are children and elders, other noncombatants, but those fighters and willworkers they have will gladly join us.
<Laris> I'll speak with some of their leaders in the morning. Let them rest for now, they've been through a lot.
<Kraaz> They've been through an ordeal, yes.
<Kraaz> But their spirit is strong.
* Laris nods
<Kraaz> I'm still a novice in your people's dealings. This battle, it means we are truly at war now?
<Laris> I think it does. It is always possible that they could step back from the precipice, but from what I know of them, I don't think they will.
* Kraaz nods.
<Laris> It would make them look weak - *feel
* weak - to have their prisoners taken from them, and to simply allow that to happen.
<Laris> I don't think they are liable to let it pass.
<Laris> Also, I did have one of their commanders executed, so if they hear about that, they might object.
<Kraaz> For our people, before, this would be just a raid, perhaps answered in kind, but these imperials seem...fragile in their strength.
* Laris says dryly.
* Kraaz laughs.
<Kraaz> What did they do?
<Laris> Decided not to join us. The soldiers - the ordinary folk - agreed to join us, but the commander refused, and I couldn't allow him to leave, nor keep him as a prisoner, so it was the only option.
* Kraaz nods.
<Kraaz> You think they'll stand with us?
<Laris> I had them split up as best as I could among the troops - not too many in one place - and told those alongside them to keep an eye on them. But I think they are mercenaries - they'll fight for who best treats them at any given time, and if we treat them as well as our own soldiers, then I believe they will.
* Kraaz nods.
<Kraaz> Makes sense.
<Laris> I hope so.
<Kraaz> Have you sent off to let Mamitu know
<Kraaz> ?
<Laris> Yes.
<Laris> (have I heard anything back yet, or no?)
<Kraaz> (No, because return messages take a couple days.)
<Laris> (ok)
<Laris> Hopefully we'll hear back in a few days.
* Kraaz nods.
<Kraaz> At least the uncertainty is over.
<Laris> We'll see what the morrow brings.
<Kraaz> I don't want to see our warriors die, but I prefer a real fight to this...posturing.
* Laris nods
<Laris> You did well, cousin.
<Kraaz> Do you think it likely more of their people will come over?
<Laris> I don't know. I think these ones did because they saw it as a better choice than dying.
<Laris> They didn't seem to have great loyalty to their cause.
<Kraaz> Well, I'm happy to give some more that second option, if it will make them choose the first. :)
* Laris smiles at that.
<Laris> Indeed.
<Laris> Thank you for what you did here, it was valuable. Get some rest tonight if you can.
* Kraaz smirks at Laris.
<Kraaz> I'll relax, certainly. As to rest...
* Kraaz shrugs.
<Laris> Yes, well :) Whatever suits you best.
* Kraaz grins.
<Kraaz> You as well, cousin.
* Laris will go back to worrying over his maps, and considering the other passes Kraaz pointed out.
<YOAW_Narrator> (In fairness, they're more like goat trails and the like, but small parties of the enemy could try to move through them.)
<Laris> (legit. worth keeping an eye on, then, but not like needing major fortifications or anything)
