Ozel Rarduzu

Ozel (708-760), known as Sweep or by a sweeping gesture of the arms, and to the Lady as Rutuna, was a prominent mystic and acolyte at Nemnosti. Born into the poor country lineage of goatherders in the village of Fuzuzh, Ozel was profoundly deaf, and had very few prospects until identified as exceptionally bright and fos-capable, and brought to Nemnosti as an acolyte. For her to learn the craft and Courses required some change and effort, and a sign language developed among her peers that to this day is known as 'sweeping', after her udul. But Nemnu Ula, communicating directly with her, had no difficulties. She was the wife of the sigillant Giri Hazh for many years, although their union had no children, and at various points, there were difficulties with Giri's twin sister Meze. At Nemnosti Ozel was a researcher into magical theory whose work, though unfinished, remains a vital source of material on magic relating to perception and illusion. Ozel died a few years ago despite efforts to revive her, and is still much missed by the acolytes of her generation, many of whom enjoy positions of great honour at the ulajeta.
