Stillmarch: will be at the club a little in advance of when he is expecting Nik and Gueiris so he can comandee a slightly quieter place for them all.

 +
Stillmarch: will let the staff know to direct them to him, and also order a coffee >.>
 +
 +
Nik: will arrive and get directed to your table.  He is looking around curiously at everything.
 +
 +
Nik: Ah, good evening, Lord Stillmarch! How are you doing?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: stands and smiles
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Evenor - so good to see you.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Lord Kyrnon should be joining us soon
 +
 +
Nik: Wonderful, glad to hear it! What do you recommend to order here?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: What are you looking for?  the bar is quite extensive and the chef's are excellent.
 +
 +
Nik: Oh... maybe... some sort of alcohol?
 +
 +
Nik: says a bit bravely
 +
 +
Stillmarch: smiles.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: They have a number of Thantopolitan wines if you are interested in something more familiar...  Highmark is known for its rice beer, which can be quite refreshing
 +
 +
Nik: I will try a rice beer, then - I have had enough of familiar things and want to try something new 🙂
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I suspected as much.  Any of the ones they have on tap should be good.
 +
 +
Nik: Thank you.  Your guidance is much appreciated.
 +
 +
Guieris: arrives at the quiet table, directed by the staff, a bottle in hand
 +
 +
Guieris: Marquess.  Lord Evenor I assume?
 +
 +
Nik: Indeed.  You must be Lord Kyrnon? It's a pleasure to meet you!
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Kyrnon - yes, please join us
 +
 +
Guieris: Of course.
 +
 +
Guieris: Look what I have.  A bottle of the finest Mythragal brandy.  Should I call for some glasses?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: does seem pretty drawn still, but grins
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Well there you have it, Evenor.  Yes, some glasses
 +
 +
Nik: Oh, that sounds good 🙂
 +
 +
Stillmarch: we were just discussing drinks, so your timing is impeccable
 +
 +
Guieris: that's great...  this stuff is best served chilled.
 +
 +
Guieris: rubs his hands together and mutters a quick phrase under his breath
 +
 +
Guieris: touches the bottle and frost coats it
 +
 +
Nik: ooh!
 +
 +
Guieris: Thats a one time thing... dont expect it for every drink.
 +
 +
Guieris: snatches glasses from the server and pours for the group
 +
 +
Stillmarch: So, Kyrnon, Lord Evenor is an old friend I have kept up a correspondence with for the past few years, who has come to Highmark for the first time this season.  And Lord Kyrnon is a friend from my Academy days.  His family's work often brought him to Mythragal.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: will take a glass
 +
 +
Guieris: offers one to Nik
 +
 +
Guieris: Glad to meet you.
 +
 +
Nik: accepts it gratefully
 +
 +
 +
Nik: And you as well, sir.  Thank you for this!
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I promised him some introductions - and I thought your brad experience of the world may be of interest, as he has been quite sheltered from it.
 +
 +
Nik: takes a sip and coughs slightly
 +
 +
Guieris: Coming to Highmark for the season is a big step.  What finally brought you out, and why have you been 'sheltered' as our friend said you were?
 +
 +
Guieris: sips his brandy
 +
 +
Nik: Well, I was rather sickly in my youth, and my parents did not allow me to partake of many activities such as one might expect for a young man.  I think now they are endeavouring to make up for that lack.
 +
 +
Guieris: Was this your first stop, or did your folks push you off the cliff to see if you could flap?
 +
 +
Nik: chuckles slightly at that
 +
 +
Nik: This is the first place I've been, other than our family estate.  Well, I guess I was in Thantopolis but only for a day or so.
 +
 +
Guieris: You can barely trip over a skeleton in Thantopolis in a single day.  Well you've picked a good place to start.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: smiles at that
 +
 +
Guieris: You're happy he's here, right Stillmarch?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Yes, quite so.  It had been several years, as I said, but I was glad to recognize him at the ball
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I said I would be happy to show him the city, to the extent that I am qualified to do so
 +
 +
Nik: Much more qualified than I am, to be sure!
 +
 +
Nik: So far I have seen some of the shops, and the park that overlooks the lower part of the hill, and Lord Callais' mansion of course.  And Hersir Feigrsteinn's house, though that was due to her invitation rather than your guidance 🙂
 +
 +
Guieris: Hersir Feigresteinn's house?  So is that you that I heard about with Katherina?
 +
 +
Nik: Oh, what did you hear?
 +
 +
Nik: sips his drink as we talk
 +
 +
Stillmarch: raises his eyebrows in curiousity
 +
 +
Guieris: Just that there was someone new in Highmark, a young gentleman that had interests in her.
 +
 +
Guieris: I wouldnt have even made the connection until you mentioned visiting.
 +
 +
Nik: In truth I am more well acquainted with her elder sister, but I did speak with her at the party.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: How do you know her?
 +
 +
Guieris: So you've met Lavinia as well?
 +
 +
Nik: Well, I met her because she visited my family's hot springs a little while back, and then I continued to correspond with her.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: looks at Gueiris with a mildly shocked expression
 +
 +
Guieris: remains stoic
 +
 +
Nik: She was kind enough to invite me for tea at her family's house.
 +
 +
Nik: And you must know her better than I do, I trust, if you are on first name terms with her!
 +
 +
Guieris: Its good that you know them.  They are very good people.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Apparently so.  I'm glad to hear you have had some occasion to meet some other acquaintances in town, though.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: We shall work expand your circle further.
 +
 +
Guieris: swirls his drink and takes a sip
 +
 +
Nik: Yes, I was rather worried that I wouldn't know anyone, but fortunately it's proven not to be the case.  And it's been easy enough to make new acquaintances as well 🙂
 +
 +
Nik: says with a friendly smile and another sip of his drink
 +
 +
Guieris: Yes, we do need to discuss the plans for this evening.  Is it going to be sipping brandy and smoking pipes over good conversation, or are we planning to broaden the experience?
 +
 +
Nik: Well, I don't have a pipe, so I think... other options may be best?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I had not set a firm agenda...
 +
 +
Nik: What would you suggest, gentlemen? I defer to your greater experience 🙂
 +
 +
Stillmarch: well, perhaps not anything too overwhelming...
 +
 +
Guieris: The first step in any such journey is refilling of the glasses.
 +
 +
Guieris: will pick up the bottle to pour
 +
 +
Nik: thank you, sir
 +
 +
Stillmarch: lamont's drink is really barely touched so... not much to refill >.>
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Yes, thank you
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Before we get lost in the evening and forget however..
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Kyrnon, does your family have a training yard in the city?
 +
 +
Guieris: Well Highmark isnt as exotic as the edges of Aethrennari, but I'm sure there is some entertainment we can find.
 +
 +
Guieris: Well the Kyrnon's have a small one.  Maranue have several larger.  What are you looking for?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Honestly - motivation, above anything else, and the company to provide it.  I feel the lack of regular exercise since the start of my leave, but I also find it difficult to et myself to it under solely my own direction...
 +
 +
Nik: What sort of exercise?
 +
 +
Guieris: You had but ask.  I can get you out with plenty of opportunity to practice your skills.
 +
 +
Coifárë: What sorts of skills are we practicing, gentlemen?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I-
 +
 +
Coifárë: says playfully, walking up.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: turns to look at them
 +
 +
Coifárë: Marquess Stillmarch, Lord Evenor, Lord Kyrnon, sorry to interrupt.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Colmacil.  Good evening...
 +
 +
Nik: Oh, good evening! What a pleasure to see you here 🙂
 +
 +
Guieris: Its an unexpected surprise
 +
 +
Stillmarch: looks between the two of them
 +
 +
Coifárë: (to Nik) And you as well. What brings you all out this evening?
 +
 +
Guieris: Martial skills, is the answer to everyone's previous question.
 +
 +
Nik: Well, I think they hoped to show me a good time 🙂
 +
 +
Stillmarch: gestures for them to join us
 +
 +
Nik: says very sweetly
 +
 +
Coifárë: I don't want to impose...
 +
 +
Coifárë: Though I'm sure I could assist them in their efforts to show you a good time.
 +
 +
Nik: Oh, I'm sure you wouldn't be!
 +
 +
Nik: is blithely ignorant of (or else deliberately ignoring) any weird vibes
 +
 +
Coifárë: (to Gueiris) What's prompting the practicing of martial skills? I have heard we might get further involved in Moro...
 +
 +
Stillmarch: no...  Lord Kyrnon was just refilling our glasses....  I'm sure another can be easily procured.
 +
 +
Guieris: It seems a fourth was accidentally left behind.
 +
 +
Nik: Excuse me for a moment - I will be back shortly.
 +
 +
Guieris: passes the filled glass to Coifare
 +
 +
Coifárë: How serendipitous.
 +
 +
Coifárë: takes a sip and nods appreciatively.
 +
 +
Guieris: No nothing to do with Moro... Lord Stillmarch is looking to hone his skills, and I was offering aid.
 +
 +
Coifárë: That Manziat reserve you like?
 +
 +
Coifárë: says, re: the brandy.
 +
 +
Coifárë: (to Lamont) Have you been kept so idle in Highmark as to rust?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Idle enough.
 +
 +
Guieris: It's no issue at all.  He'll be back up to standard in no time.
 +
 +
Coifárë: I've no doubt.
 +
 +
Coifárë: So, what are your plans to entertain Lord Evenor this evening?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: We were just discussing such...
 +
 +
Stillmarch: He's not been out much, but is quite game
 +
 +
Guieris: which leaves it quite open.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: says, trying to muster some energy of his own
 +
 +
Guieris: Is there something you are interested in?
 +
 +
Coifárë: I had been thinking of attending the opera, and I'm fairly certain my family's box has empty seats if you'd like to accompany me. Truthfully, though, as good as I'm sure it will be, it's the gatherings afterwards that are drawing me.
 +
 +
Guieris: The opera?
 +
 +
Guieris: looks at Coifare
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I'm not sure I'm quite dressed for it...
 +
 +
Coifárë: Well, I suppose we could skip and just attend the afterparty. Less stringent dress code, of course.
 +
 +
Nik: returns to the table
 +
 +
Nik: What did I miss? 😄
 +
 +
Coifárë: We were just discussing our various plans for the evening.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: nods
 +
 +
Nik: I see - and had any conclusions been reached?
 +
 +
Guieris: None so far
 +
 +
Guieris: Although an opera after party was suggested.
 +
 +
Guieris: Which does have the advantage of appreciating the vocalists in a more personalized setting.
 +
 +
Nik: That sounds like it would be fun 🙂
 +
 +
Stillmarch: very well, then
 +
 +
Coifárë: A few more drinks then, gentlemen? A game of billiards, perhaps? We have some time yet to kill.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: looks to Nik
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Do you know the game?
 +
 +
Guieris: Sounds like you want to measure our stick game before the party... far be it from me to deny you.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: -_-
 +
 +
Guieris: Yes Lord Evenor, have you played?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I never did learn how the two of you are aquainted...
 +
 +
Stillmarch: says, looking between Coifare and Gueiris
 +
 +
Nik: I haven't played before, no.  I would be glad to receive your instruction 🙂
 +
 +
Coifárë: I've known Kyrnon since he was...what? Thirteen or something like that.
 +
 +
Coifárë: (to Nik) I'm sure we can teach you a few things.
 +
 +
Guieris: More like 15, but close enough.
 +
 +
Guieris: I'm sure I acted like I was 13, back then
 +
 +
Coifárë: His family did some work for mine, helping out with bandits. Standard work for them, of course, but it meant we got to know each other pretty well. Kyrnon is the younger brother I never asked for. 😉
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Ahh, interesting.  I should never be surprised to learn either of you already know someone of my acquaintance...
 +
 +
Guieris: We've both been through a bit already.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Same as with gerry, really...
 +
 +
Coifárë: frowns with concern at Lamont for a moment.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Well, we run in surprisingly small circles, really.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Shall we adjourn for a game?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: nods
 +
 +
Nik: will toss back the rest of his drink so we can move to the billiard table
 +
 +
Stillmarch: 's eye go slightly wide at that
 +
 +
Coifárë: smiles at that.
 +
 +
Guieris: Lets go Lord Evenor, I'll teach you to break the right way.
 +
 +
Nik: I look forward to it!
 +
 +
Stillmarch: ----------
 +
Stillmarch: will try and signal Coifare that he would like to talk to them, and see if they follow up, like "oh I just need to go catch some air" meaningful look
 +
 +
Coifárë: will do so, heading out to a balcony overlooking the harbor.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: is leaning against the railing and looks over as they step out.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: ...Thank you.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Hmm?
 +
 +
Coifárë: will step over to lean on the railing as well, looking out over the city and harbor, studiously none too close to Lamont.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Well.  I know I have been very rude.  I would not have blamed you if you didn't want to speak with me....  Though you did come out tonight so I though there could be a shot.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: has still be pretty quiet and withdrawn this evening, though trying to make a good show and certainly less overwhelmed than at the masquerade
 +
 +
Coifárë: I can't say I wasn't...annoyed, perhaps, but you certainly deserve some leeway, all things considered. I was most just...concerned.
 +
 +
Coifárë: I may have forgotten the extent to which large groups can be difficult, at the best of times.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: nods
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I keep thinking about how different everything was when I mat you... and the extent to which I may have given you a false impression, of myself, or my life...  I didn't intent to mislead you.
 +
 +
Coifárë: It was a different time, and, in many ways, you were a different person then. Grief changes people.
 +
 +
Coifárë: I don't want you to think I'm expecting you to be someone you're not.
 +
 +
Coifárë: I'm just trying to be a friend to the person you are. Please don't take this the wrong way, but you seem like you could use one.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: looks back out over the harbour
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I don't know if I can do that.
 +
 +
Coifárë: I'm not sure I understand.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I don't know if I do either.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Gerry was my closest friend...
 +
 +
Stillmarch: and you're right - it has been so hard to lose him.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: And I know....  it wasn't.... It wasn't me.  I didn't kill him. But I also know that I bear some of that.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: he still died because of me.
 +
 +
Coifárë: How do you mean?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: shakes his head and takes a deep breath to steady himself
 +
 +
Stillmarch: For one thing - it was meant to be my patrol.
 +
 +
Coifárë: bites back a response, trying to just listen.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I didn't think I could manage... Everything already seemed unbearable.  Just the stress...
 +
 +
Stillmarch: shakes his head again.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: It doesn't matter.  I just mean...  I don't want to hurt you.  I don't want to burden you with...anything you are not willing to bear. Nor do I think I could bear it if I should lose another friend
 +
 +
Coifárë: That is...considerate of you, but perhaps you should give me the opportunity. Whatever your burden, I worry bearing its weight alone is neither feasible nor necessary.
 +
 +
Coifárë: I should hate to lose a friend as well, and I am largely unburdened. What is the saying? A problem shared is a problem halved?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I fear the math off in this case.
 +
 +
Coifárë: How so?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: doubled perhaps...
 +
 +
Stillmarch: looks over at them
 +
 +
Stillmarch: How can you remain unburdened and care so for all your friends?
 +
 +
Coifárë: I don't consider my friends burdens.
 +
 +
Coifárë: shrugs.
 +
 +
Coifárë: I...have little enough to worry about myself. I can spare some worry for others.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I dnt want to be a source of concern for you. How do I fix fix that?
 +
 +
Coifárë: Well, things like this are somewhat reassuring.
 +
 +
Coifárë: You seem to have managed at least something of a good time this evening.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I'm trying.
 +
 +
Coifárë: I mean, it's also okay to be sad or upset.
 +
 +
Coifárë: No one is happy all the time.
 +
 +
Coifárë: But, at the masquerade, you looked...I don't know. Injured?
 +
 +
Coifárë: Hurting in a manner that was concerning.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: it was just a headache
 +
 +
Coifárë: And I would hate to see someone I care about like that if there was anything I could do to help.
 +
 +
Coifárë: gives you a "Sure, Jan" look.
 +
 +
Coifárë: I hope it wasn't too strange for you that Gueiris and I know each other. It seemed to put you a little out of sorts.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: It was just unexpected.  That's all.  It was a stressfull evening
 +
 +
Coifárë: To be sure.
 +
 +
Coifárë: I'm glad we got to give Evenor a night on the town. He seems nice.
 +
 +
Coifárë: says after a moment.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: He needs more friends
 +
 +
Coifárë: That was my impression.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Has he really not left his family's holdings before?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: No.  he was very ill and hardly met anyone - that I met him at all was more chance than anything, and only because of my family's standing that he was allowed to correspond with me after that.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Oh, the poor man.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Well, he's really only missed a few seasons, and I'm sure he can make up for lost time.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I believe he intends to.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I've tried to encourage some moderation but...
 +
 +
Stillmarch: looks back towards the party
 +
 +
Coifárë: I'm sure the three of us can keep him out of the worst trouble.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Then I believe we had best get back to work.
 +
 +
Nik: ---------------
 +
 +
Nik: (I guess this is probably a few hours later? where should we be?)
 +
 +
Narrator: (This is for drunk!Nik?)
 +
 +
Nik: (yeah)
 +
 +
Narrator: (Okay, double-checking. We could still be at the house party type shindig we were at, or have moved on to some other entertainment if we want to change venues)
 +
 +
Nik: (we can be at the opera singers' after party, that works for me 🙂
 +
 +
Narrator: (Okay, what're you thinking Nik's up to, and how drunk is he? 😉 )
 +
 +
Nik: (well, I don't think he knows how to pace himself at all so probably quite drunk.  As to what he's doing, if it's someone's house he's probably trying to look through their books 😉
 +
 +
Coifárë: will approach Nik as he's looking through their hosts' bookshelf.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Anything interesting?
 +
 +
Nik: Oh, well, there's a few intereshing... intersting... volumes of poetry...
 +
 +
Nik: pulls out one of them and leafs through it
 +
 +
Coifárë: Oh? What sort of poetry?
 +
 +
Coifárë: will look over his shoulder.
 +
 +
Nik: 's classic Vanilorran stuff... you know.  outdoorsy, nature, blah blah.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Not your cup of tea?
 +
 +
Nik: well... it just always made me sad
 +
 +
Nik: says a bit wistfully
 +
 +
Nik: there's nothing wrong with it really
 +
 +
Coifárë: Why sad?
 +
 +
Nik: b'cause... I was stuck inside.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Ah, right, of course. My apologies. That must have been difficult.
 +
 +
Nik: 'sokay.  nothing to aplologise for.
 +
 +
Nik: it was for my own good
 +
 +
Coifárë: A thing can be for our own good and still be unpleasant.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Much as I've found there are plenty of things that may not be the best for us, but are eminently pleasant at the time.
 +
 +
 +
Nik: oh... yes, those...
 +
 +
Nik: tries to take a drink from his glass but realizes it's empty
 +
 +
Coifárë: What're you drinking?
 +
 +
Nik: considers that question
 +
 +
Nik: It is... pink?
 +
 +
Coifárë: chuckles.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Care for a refill?
 +
 +
Nik: yes please!
 +
 +
Coifárë: I'll be right back.
 +
 +
Coifárë: takes Nik's cup and will go get him some more...wine, presumably?
 +
 +
Coifárë: returns shortly and offers Nik his cup back.
 +
 +
Nik: (yeah I assume it's some kind of rose wine or whatever 😉
 +
 +
Coifárë: I hope you're having a good time, at least, poetry notwithstanding.
 +
 +
Nik: nods
 +
 +
Nik: It's not what I thought it'd be like... but it's fun
 +
 +
Coifárë: Oh? What were you imagining?
 +
 +
Nik: I think I thought everything'd be more... organized.  like people would all know what to do except me.  but mostly they don't, so they just follow what other people are doing, or what the host says...
 +
 +
Coifárë: I think a good portion of an event like this is not needing to know what you're doing, so that you can do whatever you feel like.
 +
 +
Coifárë: gives Nik an encouraging smile.
 +
 +
Nik: smiles back
 +
 +
Nik: yeah it's good...
 +
 +
Coifárë: So...what do you want to do?
 +
 +
Nik: (sec, phone, sorry)
 +
 +
Narrator: (kk)
 +
 +
Nik: (back temporarily? I might get summoned again, but Steve is talking right now 😉
 +
 +
Narrator: (heh, okay)
 +
 +
Nik: ponders that question seriously
 +
 +
Nik: I want to see naked people.
 +
 +
Nik: says after a moment's consideration
 +
 +
Coifárë: cannot contain a laugh, but tries to convey they're not laughing at Nik specifically.
 +
 +
Coifárë: I applaud your honesty. Anyone in particular?
 +
 +
Nik: well it's just! I've seen ... statues and things.  but it's not the same.
 +
 +
Nik: shakes his head
 +
 +
Nik: I don't think so... it's probably not polite to ask?
 +
 +
Nik: (now phone again, sorry)
 +
 +
Coifárë: Well, I'd say that rather depends upon the person and the situation.
 +
 +
Narrator: (kk)
 +
 +
Nik: well... maybe if you were very in love with the person, you could ask?
 +
 +
Nik: ponders
 +
 +
Coifárë: That is...one instance, yes.
 +
 +
Nik: In romance novels, anyway... either that or they accidentally stumble into someone's dressing chamber to hide and there's a dramatic misunderstanding, you know that sort of thing?
 +
 +
Coifárë: You're a romance novel fan?
 +
 +
Nik: oh, yes! although I think not enough for SOME people...
 +
 +
Nik: says mysteriously
 +
 +
Coifárë: Whatever do you mean by that, I wonder?
 +
 +
Nik: well! I was having tea with Hersir Feirseinn ... Feigrnstin... her.  and her sister, who is quite outspoken! said that I couldn't possibly be a fan if I hadn't read At Last The Night...
 +
 +
Coifárë: Oh, you really should, though, if you get a chance. It's quite good. I could lend you a copy if you like.
 +
 +
Nik: grins
 +
 +
Coifárë: Not that not having read it should be held against you, of course.
 +
 +
Nik: oh, you think it's good?
 +
 +
Coifárë: It's delightful. There's a...longing to the prose that's practically infectious.
 +
 +
Nik: smiles more
 +
 +
Nik: well I'm sure you have excellent taste!
 +
 +
Coifárë: You're sweet to say so.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Speaking of tastes, you said you didn't have a specific interest regarding your previously stated desire. Do you have a general one? Men, women, otherwise, none of the above, etc.?
 +
 +
Nik: UMmmhmhmm.... I don't really think I have a preference? At least, I don't know of one 😮
 +
 +
Coifárë: smiles slyly.
 +
 +
Nik: But I know what men look like :p  obviously :p
 +
 +
Coifárë: So you'd prefer to broaden your horizons a bit, then?
 +
 +
Nik: nods enthusiastically enough to slightly unbalance himself and need to lean against the bookshelf for support.
 +
 +
Narrator: cowill reach out to help steady him.v
 +
 +
Coifárë: will reach out to help steady him.
 +
 +
Narrator: (Huh, wonder why the original stayed even though the tupper did it's thing)
 +
 +
Nik: thanks...
 +
 +
Coifárë: Are you all right?
 +
 +
Nik: just... a little wobbly
 +
 +
Nik: 's fine!
 +
 +
Coifárë: You should take care to pace yourself.
 +
 +
Coifárë: will continue to support Nik for the moment.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: will drift over, coming ut of a conversation with some other partygoer
 +
 +
Nik: mmhmm... pacing.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Everything alright?
 +
 +
Nik: 's very important
 +
 +
Nik: you can't have your lead couple get together in the first chapter.  unless they do and then there's a big misunderstanding so they break up and then get back together at the end...
 +
 +
Coifárë: Someone might have had a little much to drink a little too fast, but I think we've got it under control.
 +
 +
Coifárë: (to Nik) Ah, you are an aficionado. (to Lamont) We were discussing romance novels earlier.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Ahh.
 +
 +
Nik: or maybe they used to be together before the story started... but then there was an Obstacle to their love and ...
 +
 +
Coifárë: studiously avoids looking at Lamont for a moment.
 +
 +
Nik: oh Lamont! I mean Stillmarch! hello!
 +
 +
Nik: smiles happily and waves
 +
 +
Stillmarch: also studiously abvoids looking at them >.>
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Having a good time then?
 +
 +
Nik: Mmhmm!
 +
 +
Stillmarch: How's that wine?
 +
 +
Nik: but Coifárë said we could see naked people.  well.  maybe not exactly said that? I think?
 +
 +
Nik: furrows his brow adorably
 +
 +
Nik: it was implied
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Mmmm maybe not tonight
 +
 +
Coifárë: laughs again.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I think you'd want to remember.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: says dryly
 +
 +
Stillmarch: here, trade me.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: offers Nik his glass
 +
 +
Nik: will trade
 +
 +
Coifárë: There is that. It would be a shame to forget.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: confiscates wine for now
 +
 +
Stillmarch: drink up and you can have the wine back
 +
 +
Nik: will sip the new drink
 +
 +
Stillmarch: (It's water.)
 +
 +
Nik: hrm.  it's a bit watered down.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: yes, I know, how terrible
 +
 +
Coifárë: It's important to make sure you're drinking plenty of water alongside the rest. Trust me, you'll thank Stillmarch tomorrow.
 +
 +
Nik: uh huh
 +
 +
Nik: thank you Stillmarch :3
 +
 +
Stillmarch: You're welcome Evenor...
 +
 +
Stillmarch: smiles slightly
 +
 +
Coifárë: See? Perfectly under control.
 +
 +
Nik: you all take... slight sniffle such good care of me
 +
 +
Coifárë: Well, what are friends for?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: We just want you to have a good time
 +
 +
Coifárë: will give Nik a side-hug from where they were supporting him.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: ...and not regret it too much >.>
 +
 +
Nik: 'm not gonna regret it! I promise!
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Well then - drink your water.
 +
 +
Nik: does as he's told
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Very good.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: will trade him back
 +
 +
Nik: ooh 😄
 +
 +
Nik: why would I regret it tomorrow though?
 +
 +
Coifárë: Right. Do you know what a hangover is?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: winces slightly
 +
 +
Nik: like... hanging over something?
 +
 +
Coifárë: Not...exactly.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: it's when the effects of too much alcohol hangs over the next day..
 +
 +
Coifárë: nods to Lamont.
 +
 +
Nik: oooooh
 +
 +
Coifárë: Drinking water helps, hence...
 +
 +
Coifárë: points to the cup Lamont is holding.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Let us know if you feel ill, also...
 +
 +
Coifárë: Otherwise you'd be in for a bad time when you wake up tomorrow. Headache, nausea, all that.
 +
 +
Nik: oh, I see....
 +
 +
Nik: that sounds bad
 +
 +
Coifárë: It's manageable. The price of a good time, on occasion.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Something of a rite of passage, really
 +
 +
Coifárë: Though there's other things you can partake in that aren't so bad in that regard, of course.
 +
 +
Nik: like what?
 +
 +
Coifárë: And none of it is intrinsically necessary for a good time.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Various herbs and such. Might be best to stick with what you're drinking, though. Mixing can be unpredictable.
 +
 +
Nik: nods
 +
 +
Nik: I don't want things to be unprec... unpredictable.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: also nods
 +
 +
Nik: maybe I can take things easy tomorrow...
 +
 +
Coifárë: Did you have anything planned for tomorrow?
 +
 +
Nik: uhmm...  not sure?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: A vigorous ride through the countryside followed by a private orchestral performance, perhaps?
 +
 +
Nik: laughs at that
 +
 +
Coifárë: chuckles.
 +
 +
Nik: I've never even been riding, I wouldn't know what to do.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Well, once you get started, instinct tends to take over. 😉
 +
 +
Stillmarch: looks too shocked to process the innuendo, really
 +
 +
Stillmarch: what never?
 +
 +
Nik: oh, that's a relief! If I do get invited to go riding I wouldn't want to make a mess of things.
 +
 +
Nik: shakes his head
 +
 +
Coifárë: manages not to laugh at that.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: catches up and gives them a look, then refocuses on Nik
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Well we will have to fix that
 +
 +
Nik: no... because of my health, all that... I think they thought the ... horse fur? or straw, or whatever? would make my breathing bad.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Would it be terribly impolite to ask when your mark manifested?
 +
 +
Nik: oh, a few months ago?
 +
 +
Nik: thinks back
 +
 +
Nik: yes I guess about three or four months ago now.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Oh, so recent. You haven't had the opportunity to try nearly anything.
 +
 +
Nik: it took some convincing my parents that I was well enough to come on this trip!
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I'm glad you did
 +
 +
Coifárë: Well, luckily for us you proved persuasive.
 +
 +
Nik: I think it was my father's doing really.  He said I need to ... to get out in the world and see things, not just read books all the time.
 +
 +
Coifárë: I'm sure the season will afford you the opportunity to see all kinds of things.
 +
 +
Nik: I hope so! I've already seen some things, but there's so much more...
 +
 +
Nik: says, wideeyed
 +
 +
Coifárë: On that note, if you'll excuse me for a moment, gentlemen.
 +
 +
Coifárë: will take their leave to go talk to their host for a bit.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: nods to them
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Leid
 +
 +
Narrator: (not at all conspiring so that Nik can see a naked person, I'm sure >.> )
 +
 +
Coifárë: Your grace, my lord.
 +
 +
Nik: oh, uh, of course!
 +
 +
Nik: whispers to Lamont "did I offend them?"
 +
 +
Stillmarch: No, not at all.  Inspired perhaps...
 +
 +
Nik: oooh, all right
 +
 +
Stillmarch: sighs quietly to himself hoping this isn't too far beyond what your father might have had in mind >.>
 +
 +
Nik: when you said 'fix that' did you mean we can go riding sometime?
 +
 +
Nik: asks hopefully/nervously
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I insist that we shall.
 +
 +
Nik: nods, smiling
 +
 +
Stillmarch: But not tomorrow.
 +
 +
Nik: no... well... that's probably wise
 +
 +
Nik: do you have an extra horse I can use? do I have to make friends with the horse first and feed it an apple? do you think I need to put my hair in a braid?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: smiles
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I'll find a horse, and you can certainly give it an apple.
 +
 +
Nik: seems pleased at that
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I'm not qualified to advise on your hair though, I'm afraid.
 +
 +
Nik: well... I don't think I would go very fast.
 +
 +
Nik: but maybe that's more up to the horse than to me
 +
 +
Nik: idly plays with his hair
 +
 +
Stillmarch: A bit of both, but we can take things slow
 +
 +
Nik: nods
 +
 +
Nik: it sounds exciting 😄
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Well, it will be a chance to see more of the countryside, at least
 +
 +
Nik: uh huh
 +
 +
Nik: I think ... I need to sit down for a little bit.
 +
 +
Nik: sounds a little woozy
 +
 +
Stillmarch: here
 +
 +
Stillmarch: will steer you over somewhere you can sit down
 +
 +
Nik: takes a seat on a divan
 +
 +
Nik: thanks...
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Do you need more water?  Some fresh air perhaps?
 +
 +
Nik: ummm... maybe?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: well, let's just sit fir a moment first, and then maybe a spell out on the balcony.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: will sit with Nik
 +
 +
Nik: sprawls over a bit, resting his head on the arm of the couch.
 +
 +
Coifárë: will return with an entirely different drink than before.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Oh, are we feeling all right, gentlemen?
 +
 +
Nik: mm... a lil bit sleepy...
 +
 +
Coifárë: Ah, of course. I suppose it is a bit late at that. Perhaps it's time to be thinking about heading homeways?
 +
 +
Nik: tries to bestir himself and sit up again, but kind of flops over onto Lamont instead
 +
 +
Stillmarch: What do you think, Nik, should I send for the carriage?  Or do you want to see if some air might refresh you?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: oh...
 +
 +
Nik: mmfine.... yeah.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: pet's his arm
 +
 +
Nik: is basically half-passed out at this point
 +
 +
Stillmarch: well I suppose that's fair..
 +
 +
Coifárë: smiles at the two of them.
 +
 +
Coifárë: I can leave you two be, of course. I'd hate to intrude. 😉
 +
 +
Stillmarch: -_-
 +
 +
Coifárë: gives Lamont a look that is the soul of innocence.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: If it's not too much trouble, can you help me rouse him enough to take some air?  And then I shoudl call for the carriage, I think
 +
 +
Coifárë: takes pity and nods. They'll move over to gently jostle Nik's shoulder.
 +
 +
Nik: hmmff.
 +
 +
Coifárë: (quietly) Lord Evenor? Would you care for some air?
 +
 +
Nik: uh huh...
 +
 +
Stillmarch: <q> Up you get....
 +
 +
Stillmarch: will try and help him up, taking him by the arm
 +
 +
Coifárë: Okay, why don't we try sitting up, and, here, you can lean on us...
 +
 +
Nik: leans on you both - fortunately he's not very heavy and easily manipulated ;)
 +
 +
Coifárë: will help get Nik out to a balcony for some air.
 +
 +
Nik: rouses a bit in the cooler air
 +
 +
Stillmarch: is that a bit better?
 +
 +
Nik: oh... sorry
 +
 +
Coifárë: Nothing to apologize for.
 +
 +
Coifárë: How are you feeling?
 +
 +
Nik: everything's spinny...
 +
 +
Coifárë: That should pass, one way or another.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: yes, you can just lean on us, or the railing
 +
 +
Nik: that's good... this is good.
 +
 +
Nik: pats your shoulders clumsily
 +
 +
Coifárë: Maybe next time we take our time with the drinks, hmm?
 +
 +
Coifárë: Lets you enjoy more of the evening. Also remember it.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: he's not going to remember your advice, either
 +
 +
Nik: giggles at that
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Evenor, do you want to go home?
 +
 +
Nik: but.. I didn't see naked people 🥺
 +
 +
Stillmarch: pats your shoulder
 +
 +
Stillmarch: there will be other nights
 +
 +
Coifárë: Evenor, I promise you, we will make sure you get the opportunity.
 +
 +
Nik: okay... 'f you shay sho.
 +
 +
Nik: you promised.  'm not gonna forget.
 +
 +
Nik: says, probably going to forget
 +
 +
Coifárë: Oh, I seriously doubt that, but I'll remember.
 +
 +
Coifárë: (to Lamont) Should we send for a carriage, then?
 +
 +
Stillmarch: yes, I'll arrange it if you can take care of him for a moment
 +
 +
Coifárë: I think we'll manage. 🙂
 +
 +
Nik: can lean alternately against Coifárë and the balcony pillars
 +
 +
Coifárë: can probably support him fine. They're maybe not quite so elduar thin as Nik.
 +
 +
Nik: it's funny... Lamont fell asleep on me an' then I fell asleep on him.  an' you.  's okay though.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Perfectly fine, and significantly less insulting in this context.
 +
 +
Nik: did you know he smells nice? he smells nice.
 +
 +
Nik: you smell nice too, I mean...
 +
 +
Coifárë: You're very sweet to say so.
 +
 +
Nik: I don't wanna be rude
 +
 +
Coifárë: laughs pleasantly.
 +
 +
Coifárë: I think you'll find I have a higher tolerance for such things than most, but you're far from being rude.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Perhaps under other circumstances I would elaborate, but I think you're in no condition for such.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Still, you're doing just fine. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself.
 +
 +
Nik: oh yes
 +
 +
Nik: it's all so .... so...
 +
 +
Nik: goes (more) pale and launches himself forward to hurl over the balcony
 +
 +
Coifárë: makes sure to hold his hair back and rubs his shoulders comfortingly.
 +
 +
Nik: ugh...
 +
 +
Coifárë: Happens to the best of us, I'm afraid.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Just...ride it out. We'll get you some more water before you head out.
 +
 +
Nik: uh huh...
 +
 +
Coifárë: glances over the balcony to make sure he didn't hit any passersby.
 +
 +
Guieris: finally escapes from conversations he wish he wasn't having
 +
 +
Guieris: Gah... I didn't think he would ever let me get away...
 +
 +
Guieris: I guess I missed quite a bit
 +
 +
Coifárë: Just feeling a bit under the weather, or under the table perhaps.
 +
 +
Coifárë: I don't suppose you could fetch some water for our friend here, could you?
 +
 +
Guieris: Yeah, I can wave some down.
 +
 +
Guieris: does so
 +
 +
Guieris: What were the chances THE Lord Maranue was here... and he heard about the incident...
 +
 +
Coifárë: Oh gods!
 +
 +
Coifárë: How did he end up...?
 +
 +
Coifárë: shakes their head.
 +
 +
Coifárë: How much trouble are you in?
 +
 +
Coifárë: (to Nik) Take small sips.
 +
 +
Nik: does as he's told
 +
 +
Coifárë: will use prestidigitation to clean Nik up as necessary.
 +
 +
Guieris: It's not as bad as it could have been... I was just stuck listening to him advise me on when one should use their more physical interventions and when one should be more diplomatic.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Well, the other party to your intervention didn't seem particularly upset with its physical nature.
 +
 +
Guieris: Did you talk to her?
 +
 +
Coifárë: I went to one of her lectures yesterday.
 +
 +
Guieris: I hope it went better than her more public events
 +
 +
Guieris: How is Stillmarch holding up?
 +
 +
Guieris: You're gonna be fine Evenor.
 +
 +
Nik: I feel ... a little better...
 +
 +
Nik: says faintly
 +
 +
Coifárë: He seems to be doing a bit better. He went to go get a carriage to take Evenor home. Presumably himself as well.
 +
 +
Coifárë: (to Nik) That's good. I'm sure Stillmarch will be back soon.
 +
 +
Guieris: I feel like quite the ass for being cornered like that and ignoring everyone.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: will step out onto the balcony
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Oh, there you are Kyrnon
 +
 +
Coifárë: It's not a society party, so I don't think anyone will be too perturbed. I'm still flabbergasted that Duke Maranue is here.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I'm afraid I've just arranged to take Evenor home...
 +
 +
Stillmarch: Oh that was him, hmm.
 +
 +
Coifárë: (to Nik) Are you feeling well enough to walk down to the carriage?
 +
 +
Nik: I think so...
 +
 +
Coifárë: (to Lamont) Yes, bit of a bad stomach, but I think we're okay now.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Shall we, then?
 +
 +
Coifárë: will continue to help support Nik as they make their way through the party and down to the street.
 +
 +
Guieris: helps clear the path
 +
 +
Nik: wanders a bit but can be steered in the right direction
 +
 +
Stillmarch: will also help support Nik
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I think I can probably handle him from here....
 +
 +
]Stillmarch: Thank you, both, for coming out tonight
 +
 +
Coifárë: And you as well. It was nice to spend time with the both of you.
 +
 +
Guieris: Thank you for inviting us.  Are you certain you can manage?  Glad to help if I can.
 +
 +
Stillmarch: I've wrangled bigger drunks >.>
 +
 +
Stillmarch: you may recall >.>
 +
 +
Coifárë: laughs.
 +
 +
Guieris: nods
 +
 +
Coifárë: Have a good rest of your evening.
 +
 +
Coifárë: As a small consolation...
 +
 +
Coifárë: will lean over to give Nik a kiss on the cheek.
 +
 +
Coifárë: Be good, boys. Good night!
 +
 +
Guieris: Yes take care!
 +
 +
Nik: smiles adorably and a bit woozily
 +
 +
Nik: gnight!
 +
 +
Coifárë: heads back into the party.
 +
 +
Guieris: does so as well
 +
 +
Stillmarch: will take Nik home, then

AWRR Chapter logs
Previous Chapter 2 Next

Summary

Session date: 2023-02-19

Katherina checks in with her sister after the ball, and they talk about boys (of course!). Later, Nik stops by for tea as invited with the girls and their mother, and they discuss all manner of things, including books, Lavinia's food, dragonmarks, and Nik's experience of the city and season so far.

Leonora discusses her efforts at the ball with her husband, Magga, and the best approach to find someone who might accept their proposition. They discuss the Allards, and Leonora suggests that Magga should attend the next social occasion with her.

Coifárë stops to listen to one of Victorina's street lectures, and offers to help find her some more formal venues through their ecclesiastic contacts.

Gueiris and Coifárë meet up at tea shop and discuss the former's current circumstances and his invitation from Lamont and their mutual concern for him.

Lamont invites Nik and Gueiris out to a fancy club, where they meet up and make introductions and have a slightly tense moment over their mutual friendship with Lavinia. Coifárë crashes the party, and they later head out to an opera after party. Coifárë and Lamont have a private conversation, and Coifárë checks on on a very drunk Nik who reveals the deepest desire of his heart - to see naked people! He is later escorted home by Lamont, while Gueiris laments missing half the action after being chastised by the lord of his House.

Victorina stops in to meet with Chitara to discussed their shared cause, and seek some feedback on some new material she is working on.

Coifárë and Chitara meet up to visit a bookshop, and make future plans to meet up to try painting in the wilds.

Rosalie reminds her brother that they are expecting company for tea, and makes him promise not to push a courtship agenda. When Lamont arrives, they make friendly conversation and find they all have some interests in common. Lamont invites Rosalie to visit one of the city's museums. He does his best, with Rose's help, to politely decline an invitation to join Sebastien at a gabling house, but agrees to go riding with him instead.

Session

Boy Talk With Katherina and Lavinia

Katherina: shuffles into Lavinia's room once we're home and getting ready for bed

Lavinia: will be in her room undressing from the party and considering the evening.

Katherina: Oh that was just so much fun! I wish we had balls every day... though I am a little tired...

Katherina: How did you find it?

Lavinia: I'm sure you must be. You were running around like a blink dog all evening.

Lavinia: It was... interesting.

Katherina: perks up

Lavinia: begins removing her makeup in the mirror.

Katherina: Interesting how?

Katherina: grabs some things off your dresser and will start doing the same, peering over your shoulder

Lavinia: Well... I had some very nice conversations. And the gardens are always lovely.

Lavinia: What about you? How did you find the evening?

Katherina: smiles slyly

Lavinia: sighs and scoots over on her bench to give you room

Katherina: oh yes the gardens were *quite* the experience So many beautiful flowers... so many quiet little alcoves...

Katherina: plops down beside you

Lavinia: Yes, very good for reading or a picnic

Katherina: Of course I had a wonderful time ^-^

Katherina: Oh surely that's not what our host intended, not at a Sehanine Ball...

Lavinia: Katherina!

Katherina: What!? That is what it is, you know.

Lavinia: Yes, but you still shouldn't SAY so.

Katherina: laugh

Katherina: why ever not? Everyone knows trysts are half the reason for having a masquerade. I'd like to go to a proper one someday, where folks aren’t announced, even...

Katherina: speaking of ...such things.... did you recall your promise?

Lavinia: I don't recall PROMISING anything, dear sister.

Katherina: mmmhmm, that's not what I recall at all!

Katherina: but even so. DID you consider it?

Lavinia: How could I not, after all your badgering.

Katherina: oh wonderful! You know if you speak like that you will only give me encouragement. So - who is it?

Lavinia: blushes

Katherina: of course you can give me more than one. I saw you speaking with several handsome gentlemen...

Lavinia: Well...

Lavinia: I suppose...

Katherina: eyes gleam, but she waits impatiently for you to spill

Lavinia: ...Lord Kyrnon WAS very dashing...

Katherina: ooh! I was sure you were going to say lord Evenor - you gave me such a look when he was speaking with me! tell me more about Lord Kyrnon.

Lavinia: gives you another look at the mention of Lord Evenor.

Lavinia: I'm sure that Lord evenor is not interested in me. Not after you got hold of him.

Katherina: pouts Vinnie if you have the slightest interest in him I will give way to your interest. He was sweet but there were many sweet gentlemen, I thought.

Lavinia: He asked about you during our dance.

Katherina: :o

Katherina: blushes just a little, then waves her hand

Katherina: Well, how thoughtless of him.

Lavinia: I believe that may be the only reason he asked me.

Lavinia: I don't know.

Lavinia: He seemed so... sweet... until then.

Lavinia: But... men.

Katherina: smirks

Katherina: You sound so jaded! but yes, that is disappointing. I shall be extra cold to him on your account

Lavinia: Don't you dare!

Katherina: But you see, this is why you must tell me which ones are of interest, so that I can steer them towards you properly.

Katherina: I shall be! he was cruel to you and it is simply what he s=deserves

Lavinia: Lord Evenor is a good match. You would do well if he is interested in you.

Lavinia: Besides, we both know I cannot compete with you in physical appeal

Katherina: Vinnie, all you lack is confidence. It is the true secret to all charms. I am no more lovely than you. Just bolder, that's all, because I refuse to let mother or the world put me in a place I do not desire. No man who was rude to my sister is "good match", no matter his station.

Lavinia: Oh Kitty...

Katherina: now, about Lord kyrnon.... you say he was dashing?

Lavinia: That was not part of the deal, little sister. I have given you a name. Now, if I'm not mistaken, it is your turn.

Katherina: Oh if that's the way you wish to play it.... very well

Katherina: *tosses her hair and puts down the cloth, looking at her face to see how clean it is, and then glances at you impishly in the mirror

Lavinia: grins

Katherina: A boy I should like to kiss is... why - Councillor Callais of course ^-^

Lavinia: stares at you.

Katherina: What? he is very handsome, of course. And rich, and powerful. And he has been known to have dalliances, of course...

Lavinia: Kitty!!

Lavinia: He is old enough to be your... I don't even know! Great grandfather perhaps???

Katherina: Yes but he is an elf so it hardly matters. It just means he should know well the business of kissing!

Katherina: Giggles, clearly enjoying your reaction

Lavinia: Are you being serious or are you putting me on like last month with the custard recipe?

Katherina: Oh no I'm quite serious! I think it would be wonderful to kiss him. He's so formal all the time, imaging being the one to shake that up a little? But it is purely a fantasy, don't worry overly much. There are plenty of other boys.

Lavinia: sighs exasperatedly and rolls her eyes.

Lavinia: Hopefully some born in the same century as you.

Lavinia: Who don't already have grandchildren.

Katherina: Mmm, oh yes, his grandchildren... >.>

Lavinia: Now THAT would be a fine match for you.

Katherina: Well on that note - I am off to bed, sweet dreams, sister!

Katherina: May you dream of handsome men!

Lavinia: blushes again.

Lavinia: Kitty!

Katherina: skips off back towards her room

Lavinia: I swear sometimes...

Lavinia: She is a changeling. That's the explaination. I don't know where else she would get it from.

Nik Atends Tea with Lavinia and Her Family

Lavinia: will be waiting in the parlor with her mother and sister for Nik to arrive. She has made several different tea cakes and other snacks, including the aforementioned strawberry tart.

Nik: will present himself at the appointed time, carrying a few small wrapped packages. He wears a tailored suit of the most current style, with a teal blue coat.

Lavinia: will rise when the butler leads you into the drawing room.

Lavinia: Lord Evenor! It is a pleasure to see you again.

Katherina: rises also

Katherina: Yes, good afternoon

Nik: Good day, Lady Feigrsteinn, Hersir Feigrsteinn, Miss Katherina. Thank you very much for your invitation! If it pleases you, I have a few small gifts.

Nik: offers each of you a present, which feels like it is a small glass jar.

Katherina: Oh, how gracious!

Lavinia: Oh! That's very nice of you, Lord Evenor!

Lavinia: beams

Nik: It is the merest token of my affection. They are healing salts from my family's hot springs - if you add them to your bath, they can soothe aches and pains.

Lavinia: Thank you so much, My Lord. Your family's springs were very rejuvenating when I visited them during my... episode.

Maria Orsino: enters the parlor, dressed in a white morning dress from at least two seasons ago, but stylish nonetheless

Nik: I am glad to hear you found them comforting, in a time of difficulty.

Maria Orsino: Good morning, dears. Oh and I see that your guest has arrived. My, you're a tall one, aren't you?

Katherina: Oh mother, of course he is! but we should all go sit, shouldn't we, Vinnie has worked very hard on this tea and we must all appreciate it properly.

Lavinia: Oh, it was nothing, really.

Katherina: says with a slightly arch look at Nik

Nik: It's a pleasure to see you, Lady Feigrsteinn. I will endeavour to be more accommodating.

Maria Orsino: Thank you, young man. May I have the pleasure of your introduction, properly now I mean?

Nik: I am Nikession Amathalis, Lord Evenor, at your service, my lady.

Nik: bows politely

Lavinia: Mother, he is the one I have been corresponding with since my convalescence. His family owns the springs at Therma Alba

Maria Orsino: Pleased to make your acquaintance, Lord Evenor. And I as you know am Maria Orsino.

Maria Orsino: Yes, of course, dear.

Katherina: Now, shall we go into the parlour?

Nik: will go where you tell him

Katherina: It shall be much more pleasant not to have to crane my neck so to speak with out guest!

Katherina: will lead everyone to get more equitably seated around the tea table

Lavinia: will seat herself near Lord Evenor

Nik: Your home is very charming, my lady. Everything is so refined.

Maria Orsino: You're very kind and observant to say so, Lord Evenor.

Katherina: settles beside her sister

Lavinia: Much of the furnishings are from Grimfarr, My Lord.

Nik: Oh, how fascinating! I am not too familiar with Grimfarr, or indeed many places. I would love to learn more about it, when I have the opportunity.

Lavinia: Oh, I have spent many summers there. It is beautiful, but it does get very cold in the winters.

Katherina: Highmark is much more exciting.

Nik: Well, I have certainly been enjoying my time here! There is so much to see, I feel as though I have barely scratched the surface of its enjoyments.

Lavinia: is trying to nonchalantly observe where Nik is looking during the conversation, whether more at her or Katherina.

Maria Orsino: Of course, there are many distractions here in Highmark. But tell me of yourself, Lord Evenor. You were raised in Thantopolis? Or in Therma Alba? A little of both?

Nik: (probably mostly at your mother, tbh, trying to be polite to her! but otherwise about equally dividing his attention between you)

Nik: I was quite ill as a child, my lady, and spent my youth at Therma Alba in an effort to improve my health. My parents did not wish for me to be too subjected to the rigours of city life.

Katherina: Oh that must have been very dull!

Nik: Well, I read a great deal, and I have been fortunate enough to have most enjoyable correspondence with friends such as Hersir Feigrsteinn to liven the days.

Maria Orsino: Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your convalescence. But you're well now?

Nik: Yes, my lady, my health is much improved since I came of age.

Maria Orsino: I'm so glad to hear it.

Lavinia: I am sure the waters must have finally taken their effect then, My Lord.

Katherina: Yes, you look very well now! But what sorts of things do you read then? Anything that may be of interest to ladies such as ourselves? ^-^

Nik: Oh, I partake of many subjects... but as to what might be of interest to young ladies such as yourselves, I do enjoy a good romance novel.

Katherina: face lights up completely, and then glances at her sister and tries to tamp it down a bit

Lavinia: Oh! My sister does love her romance novels as well, my lord.

Nik: And what about yourself? You do not care for them?

Lavinia: Oh I... I'm not much of a reader generally. I stick to my cookbooks and correspondences for the most part.

Katherina: bites her lip to keep on behavious for her sister's sake

Katherina: Oh yes - you do always have your nose in there... but to such an end. You must try these tarts my lord, she has truly outdone herself, I think.

Nik: Ah, so it is your knowledge of cooking that created such delicacies?

Nik: says, sampling one of the aforementioned tarts.

Lavinia: Well, yes, I can create the food itself of course, but without the knowledge of its taste and ingredients it is never quite right.

Maria Orsino: Yes, Lavinia has quite a talent in that regard. Your tailor will be well-compensated, make no mistake.

Lavinia: blushes slightly

Katherina: Yes, that is a very dashing suit...

Lavinia: Indeed, very stylish

Nik: Oh, do you think so? Lord Stillmarch was kind enough to recommend his own tailor in town, so I must give credit to him.

Katherina: stuffs a tart in her mouth because she is supposed to be cold, not complimentary

Lavinia: Oh, are you and Lord Stillmarch acquainted, then?

Nik: Indeed, I have corresponded with him for some time as well.

Lavinia: I met him at the party. He seemed rather... melancholy. I do hope he is alright.

Katherina: I'm not sure I have had the pleasure - who is Lord Stillmarch?

Lavinia: He is... was... Algernon's cousin.

Katherina: Ahhh, I see.

Katherina: Well, I generally prefer the company of more genial gentlemen. melancholy has no place at a ball, of all places!

Lavinia: Kitty!

Lavinia: The poor man was grieving!

Katherina: Well a ball is no place for the grieving, that's all I mean.

Nik: I think he was rather weary, perhaps he had not rested well. I'm sure he was not intending any insult.

Maria Orsino: So you have a long friendship with the Marquess, then?

Nik: I first met him some four years ago, my lady. Since then we have corresponded as his schedule permits. His military service does of course keep him from always writing regularly.

Maria Orsino: Naturally.

Katherina: Oh, is he the one who gave you those letters, Vinnie?

Lavinia: Oh, yes...

Nik: looks a bit curious but doesn't want to pry

Lavinia: Ummm... His cousin Algernon Machel was... my betrothed. He brought me some letters that Lord Machel had written me.

Nik: Oh, I see, I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope his letters were able to give you some comfort.

Lavinia: Thank you, My Lord.

Katherina: That's very kind of you. I just want her to hurry up and read them so she can tell me what all they contained ^-^

Lavinia: Kitty...

Maria Orsino: Dears, let's turn the conversation to something less grim.

Lavinia: Yes, thank you, Mother.

Katherina: Oh, I'm sorry... hmm... Have you perhaps read Alas The Dawn by Melodie Fayre? It is such a sweet book and I must convince my sister to try it. Perhaps you can help me persuade her?

Lavinia: Kitty, you know how I feel about such nonsense.

Katherina: I told her it is not lewd at all, but she won't trust me!

Nik: Oh, yes, "At Last The Night"... so you enjoyed it? I have heard it's quite popular, I must read it one of these days.

Katherina: sigh

Katherina: You surely must, my lord.

Nik: Well, I will take your recommendation to heart.

Katherina: It is a piece of such passion to turn even the coldest heart.... I find it hard to believe anyone who enjoys the genre could have missed it

Nik: Perhaps by the next time we meet, I will be able to discuss it with you 🙂

Maria Orsino: While you are here in Highmark, will you be attending to any of your family's affairs or business?

Katherina: glances at Lavinia Well. Perhaps.

Lavinia: glances at Katherina and smiles very slightly.

Nik: Oh, well, my father is busy with council of course. I am merely here to partake in the season, although of course if there is anything he requires of me, I will assist. But I think for the moment, my parents will permit me to be... free of responsibilities. After all, I have never visited the city before.

Maria Orsino: Yes, of course, that makes perfect sense.

Lavinia: I do hope you are enjoying your stay so far, My Lord.

Nik: Very much so! Every day brings some new experience or sight to see, and I am gratified to be able to spend time with friends such as yourself.

Lavinia: smiles at that.

Nik: These tarts are truly remarkable, you made them yourself?

Katherina: Yes, with her magic!

Katherina: Everythign she creates is fantastic, though never up to her standards.

Lavinia: It's my gift, My Lord. Not as useful as some, perhaps, but I do love it.

Nik: Oh, but I think being able to make delicious food is quite useful, moreso than many. You can use your gift to bring joy to people every day 🙂

Lavinia: I do hope so. :3

Nik: My own gift is not so directly helpful to others, being only useful to myself at the present time.

Lavinia: Oh?

Lavinia: How so?

Nik: Well, I mentioned I had been unwell as a child. When my mark manifested, it helped alleviate my illness, so that I no longer had so much difficulty in exerting myself.

Lavinia: Oh!

Lavinia: So it makes you healthy?

Nik: In essence, yes. It helps me to breathe more easily.

Lavinia: I imagine that it will be very interesting to see where that leads when it grows in power.

Maria Orsino: That is a gift to be treasured. My dear aunt Helena had troubles with breathing for decades.

Katherina: Oh yes, I can imagine some interesting applications...

Lavinia: gives Kitty a wide-eyed stare

Katherina: returns an innocent look

Nik: In my family's line, there are those who have skill at healing - I hope that one day, perhaps I can share my gift with those who would benefit from it.

Lavinia: I... hope that is how it develops, then, My Lord.

Lavinia: kicks Katherina under the table.

Nik: We shall see, I suppose!

Nik: says in blissful ignorance

Katherina: I'm sure there are many who would benefit form your attentions... were that to be the case ^_^

Nik: There are certainly many who are not well - our hot springs are always busy with those who come seeking relief from cares and sickness.

Nik: Perhaps one day you can visit there again 🙂

Lavinia: Oh... that would be lovely, My Lord. It is such a lovely place. It was a very pleasant change from the city.

Nik: And this time, I would be more able to partake of the offerings with you!

Lavinia: blushes DEEP red

Lavinia: Oh, I... uh...

Nik: Um, I mean, of course, in a respectable fashion.

Katherina: smirks and sips her tea

Lavinia: Of... of course, My Lord...

Coifárë attends Victorina' Lecture

Gueiris and Coifárë Meet For Tea

A Night On The Town

Stillmarch: will be at the club a little in advance of when he is expecting Nik and Gueiris so he can comandee a slightly quieter place for them all.

Stillmarch: will let the staff know to direct them to him, and also order a coffee >.>

Nik: will arrive and get directed to your table. He is looking around curiously at everything.

Nik: Ah, good evening, Lord Stillmarch! How are you doing?

Stillmarch: stands and smiles

Stillmarch: Evenor - so good to see you.

Stillmarch: Lord Kyrnon should be joining us soon

Nik: Wonderful, glad to hear it! What do you recommend to order here?

Stillmarch: What are you looking for? the bar is quite extensive and the chef's are excellent.

Nik: Oh... maybe... some sort of alcohol?

Nik: says a bit bravely

Stillmarch: smiles.

Stillmarch: They have a number of Thantopolitan wines if you are interested in something more familiar... Highmark is known for its rice beer, which can be quite refreshing

Nik: I will try a rice beer, then - I have had enough of familiar things and want to try something new 🙂

Stillmarch: I suspected as much. Any of the ones they have on tap should be good.

Nik: Thank you. Your guidance is much appreciated.

Guieris: arrives at the quiet table, directed by the staff, a bottle in hand

Guieris: Marquess. Lord Evenor I assume?

Nik: Indeed. You must be Lord Kyrnon? It's a pleasure to meet you!

Stillmarch: Kyrnon - yes, please join us

Guieris: Of course.

Guieris: Look what I have. A bottle of the finest Mythragal brandy. Should I call for some glasses?

Stillmarch: does seem pretty drawn still, but grins

Stillmarch: Well there you have it, Evenor. Yes, some glasses

Nik: Oh, that sounds good 🙂

Stillmarch: we were just discussing drinks, so your timing is impeccable

Guieris: that's great... this stuff is best served chilled.

Guieris: rubs his hands together and mutters a quick phrase under his breath

Guieris: touches the bottle and frost coats it

Nik: ooh!

Guieris: Thats a one time thing... dont expect it for every drink.

Guieris: snatches glasses from the server and pours for the group

Stillmarch: So, Kyrnon, Lord Evenor is an old friend I have kept up a correspondence with for the past few years, who has come to Highmark for the first time this season. And Lord Kyrnon is a friend from my Academy days. His family's work often brought him to Mythragal.

Stillmarch: will take a glass

Guieris: offers one to Nik

Guieris: Glad to meet you.

Nik: accepts it gratefully

Nik: And you as well, sir. Thank you for this!

Stillmarch: I promised him some introductions - and I thought your brad experience of the world may be of interest, as he has been quite sheltered from it.

Nik: takes a sip and coughs slightly

Guieris: Coming to Highmark for the season is a big step. What finally brought you out, and why have you been 'sheltered' as our friend said you were?

Guieris: sips his brandy

Nik: Well, I was rather sickly in my youth, and my parents did not allow me to partake of many activities such as one might expect for a young man. I think now they are endeavouring to make up for that lack.

Guieris: Was this your first stop, or did your folks push you off the cliff to see if you could flap?

Nik: chuckles slightly at that

Nik: This is the first place I've been, other than our family estate. Well, I guess I was in Thantopolis but only for a day or so.

Guieris: You can barely trip over a skeleton in Thantopolis in a single day. Well you've picked a good place to start.

Stillmarch: smiles at that

Guieris: You're happy he's here, right Stillmarch?

Stillmarch: Yes, quite so. It had been several years, as I said, but I was glad to recognize him at the ball

Stillmarch: I said I would be happy to show him the city, to the extent that I am qualified to do so

Nik: Much more qualified than I am, to be sure!

Nik: So far I have seen some of the shops, and the park that overlooks the lower part of the hill, and Lord Callais' mansion of course. And Hersir Feigrsteinn's house, though that was due to her invitation rather than your guidance 🙂

Guieris: Hersir Feigresteinn's house? So is that you that I heard about with Katherina?

Nik: Oh, what did you hear?

Nik: sips his drink as we talk

Stillmarch: raises his eyebrows in curiousity

Guieris: Just that there was someone new in Highmark, a young gentleman that had interests in her.

Guieris: I wouldnt have even made the connection until you mentioned visiting.

Nik: In truth I am more well acquainted with her elder sister, but I did speak with her at the party.

Stillmarch: How do you know her?

Guieris: So you've met Lavinia as well?

Nik: Well, I met her because she visited my family's hot springs a little while back, and then I continued to correspond with her.

Stillmarch: looks at Gueiris with a mildly shocked expression

Guieris: remains stoic

Nik: She was kind enough to invite me for tea at her family's house.

Nik: And you must know her better than I do, I trust, if you are on first name terms with her!

Guieris: Its good that you know them. They are very good people.

Stillmarch: Apparently so. I'm glad to hear you have had some occasion to meet some other acquaintances in town, though.

Stillmarch: We shall work expand your circle further.

Guieris: swirls his drink and takes a sip

Nik: Yes, I was rather worried that I wouldn't know anyone, but fortunately it's proven not to be the case. And it's been easy enough to make new acquaintances as well 🙂

Nik: says with a friendly smile and another sip of his drink

Guieris: Yes, we do need to discuss the plans for this evening. Is it going to be sipping brandy and smoking pipes over good conversation, or are we planning to broaden the experience?

Nik: Well, I don't have a pipe, so I think... other options may be best?

Stillmarch: I had not set a firm agenda...

Nik: What would you suggest, gentlemen? I defer to your greater experience 🙂

Stillmarch: well, perhaps not anything too overwhelming...

Guieris: The first step in any such journey is refilling of the glasses.

Guieris: will pick up the bottle to pour

Nik: thank you, sir

Stillmarch: lamont's drink is really barely touched so... not much to refill >.>

Stillmarch: Yes, thank you

Stillmarch: Before we get lost in the evening and forget however..

Stillmarch: Kyrnon, does your family have a training yard in the city?

Guieris: Well Highmark isnt as exotic as the edges of Aethrennari, but I'm sure there is some entertainment we can find.

Guieris: Well the Kyrnon's have a small one. Maranue have several larger. What are you looking for?

Stillmarch: Honestly - motivation, above anything else, and the company to provide it. I feel the lack of regular exercise since the start of my leave, but I also find it difficult to et myself to it under solely my own direction...

Nik: What sort of exercise?

Guieris: You had but ask. I can get you out with plenty of opportunity to practice your skills.

Coifárë: What sorts of skills are we practicing, gentlemen?

Stillmarch: I-

Coifárë: says playfully, walking up.

Stillmarch: turns to look at them

Coifárë: Marquess Stillmarch, Lord Evenor, Lord Kyrnon, sorry to interrupt.

Stillmarch: Colmacil. Good evening...

Nik: Oh, good evening! What a pleasure to see you here 🙂

Guieris: Its an unexpected surprise

Stillmarch: looks between the two of them

Coifárë: (to Nik) And you as well. What brings you all out this evening?

Guieris: Martial skills, is the answer to everyone's previous question.

Nik: Well, I think they hoped to show me a good time 🙂

Stillmarch: gestures for them to join us

Nik: says very sweetly

Coifárë: I don't want to impose...

Coifárë: Though I'm sure I could assist them in their efforts to show you a good time.

Nik: Oh, I'm sure you wouldn't be!

Nik: is blithely ignorant of (or else deliberately ignoring) any weird vibes

Coifárë: (to Gueiris) What's prompting the practicing of martial skills? I have heard we might get further involved in Moro...

Stillmarch: no... Lord Kyrnon was just refilling our glasses.... I'm sure another can be easily procured.

Guieris: It seems a fourth was accidentally left behind.

Nik: Excuse me for a moment - I will be back shortly.

Guieris: passes the filled glass to Coifare

Coifárë: How serendipitous.

Coifárë: takes a sip and nods appreciatively.

Guieris: No nothing to do with Moro... Lord Stillmarch is looking to hone his skills, and I was offering aid.

Coifárë: That Manziat reserve you like?

Coifárë: says, re: the brandy.

Coifárë: (to Lamont) Have you been kept so idle in Highmark as to rust?

Stillmarch: Idle enough.

Guieris: It's no issue at all. He'll be back up to standard in no time.

Coifárë: I've no doubt.

Coifárë: So, what are your plans to entertain Lord Evenor this evening?

Stillmarch: We were just discussing such...

Stillmarch: He's not been out much, but is quite game

Guieris: which leaves it quite open.

Stillmarch: says, trying to muster some energy of his own

Guieris: Is there something you are interested in?

Coifárë: I had been thinking of attending the opera, and I'm fairly certain my family's box has empty seats if you'd like to accompany me. Truthfully, though, as good as I'm sure it will be, it's the gatherings afterwards that are drawing me.

Guieris: The opera?

Guieris: looks at Coifare

Stillmarch: I'm not sure I'm quite dressed for it...

Coifárë: Well, I suppose we could skip and just attend the afterparty. Less stringent dress code, of course.

Nik: returns to the table

Nik: What did I miss? 😄

Coifárë: We were just discussing our various plans for the evening.

Stillmarch: nods

Nik: I see - and had any conclusions been reached?

Guieris: None so far

Guieris: Although an opera after party was suggested.

Guieris: Which does have the advantage of appreciating the vocalists in a more personalized setting.

Nik: That sounds like it would be fun 🙂

Stillmarch: very well, then

Coifárë: A few more drinks then, gentlemen? A game of billiards, perhaps? We have some time yet to kill.

Stillmarch: looks to Nik

Stillmarch: Do you know the game?

Guieris: Sounds like you want to measure our stick game before the party... far be it from me to deny you.

Stillmarch: -_-

Guieris: Yes Lord Evenor, have you played?

Stillmarch: I never did learn how the two of you are aquainted...

Stillmarch: says, looking between Coifare and Gueiris

Nik: I haven't played before, no. I would be glad to receive your instruction 🙂

Coifárë: I've known Kyrnon since he was...what? Thirteen or something like that.

Coifárë: (to Nik) I'm sure we can teach you a few things.

Guieris: More like 15, but close enough.

Guieris: I'm sure I acted like I was 13, back then

Coifárë: His family did some work for mine, helping out with bandits. Standard work for them, of course, but it meant we got to know each other pretty well. Kyrnon is the younger brother I never asked for. 😉

Stillmarch: Ahh, interesting. I should never be surprised to learn either of you already know someone of my acquaintance...

Guieris: We've both been through a bit already.

Stillmarch: Same as with gerry, really...

Coifárë: frowns with concern at Lamont for a moment.

Coifárë: Well, we run in surprisingly small circles, really.

Coifárë: Shall we adjourn for a game?

Stillmarch: nods

Nik: will toss back the rest of his drink so we can move to the billiard table

Stillmarch: 's eye go slightly wide at that

Coifárë: smiles at that.

Guieris: Lets go Lord Evenor, I'll teach you to break the right way.

Nik: I look forward to it!

Stillmarch: ---------- Stillmarch: will try and signal Coifare that he would like to talk to them, and see if they follow up, like "oh I just need to go catch some air" meaningful look

Coifárë: will do so, heading out to a balcony overlooking the harbor.

Stillmarch: is leaning against the railing and looks over as they step out.

Stillmarch: ...Thank you.

Coifárë: Hmm?

Coifárë: will step over to lean on the railing as well, looking out over the city and harbor, studiously none too close to Lamont.

Stillmarch: Well. I know I have been very rude. I would not have blamed you if you didn't want to speak with me.... Though you did come out tonight so I though there could be a shot.

Stillmarch: has still be pretty quiet and withdrawn this evening, though trying to make a good show and certainly less overwhelmed than at the masquerade

Coifárë: I can't say I wasn't...annoyed, perhaps, but you certainly deserve some leeway, all things considered. I was most just...concerned.

Coifárë: I may have forgotten the extent to which large groups can be difficult, at the best of times.

Stillmarch: nods

Stillmarch: I keep thinking about how different everything was when I mat you... and the extent to which I may have given you a false impression, of myself, or my life... I didn't intent to mislead you.

Coifárë: It was a different time, and, in many ways, you were a different person then. Grief changes people.

Coifárë: I don't want you to think I'm expecting you to be someone you're not.

Coifárë: I'm just trying to be a friend to the person you are. Please don't take this the wrong way, but you seem like you could use one.

Stillmarch: looks back out over the harbour

Stillmarch: I don't know if I can do that.

Coifárë: I'm not sure I understand.

Stillmarch: I don't know if I do either.

Stillmarch: Gerry was my closest friend...

Stillmarch: and you're right - it has been so hard to lose him.

Stillmarch: And I know.... it wasn't.... It wasn't me. I didn't kill him. But I also know that I bear some of that.

Stillmarch: he still died because of me.

Coifárë: How do you mean?

Stillmarch: shakes his head and takes a deep breath to steady himself

Stillmarch: For one thing - it was meant to be my patrol.

Coifárë: bites back a response, trying to just listen.

Stillmarch: I didn't think I could manage... Everything already seemed unbearable. Just the stress...

Stillmarch: shakes his head again.

Stillmarch: It doesn't matter. I just mean... I don't want to hurt you. I don't want to burden you with...anything you are not willing to bear. Nor do I think I could bear it if I should lose another friend

Coifárë: That is...considerate of you, but perhaps you should give me the opportunity. Whatever your burden, I worry bearing its weight alone is neither feasible nor necessary.

Coifárë: I should hate to lose a friend as well, and I am largely unburdened. What is the saying? A problem shared is a problem halved?

Stillmarch: I fear the math off in this case.

Coifárë: How so?

Stillmarch: doubled perhaps...

Stillmarch: looks over at them

Stillmarch: How can you remain unburdened and care so for all your friends?

Coifárë: I don't consider my friends burdens.

Coifárë: shrugs.

Coifárë: I...have little enough to worry about myself. I can spare some worry for others.

Stillmarch: I dnt want to be a source of concern for you. How do I fix fix that?

Coifárë: Well, things like this are somewhat reassuring.

Coifárë: You seem to have managed at least something of a good time this evening.

Stillmarch: I'm trying.

Coifárë: I mean, it's also okay to be sad or upset.

Coifárë: No one is happy all the time.

Coifárë: But, at the masquerade, you looked...I don't know. Injured?

Coifárë: Hurting in a manner that was concerning.

Stillmarch: it was just a headache

Coifárë: And I would hate to see someone I care about like that if there was anything I could do to help.

Coifárë: gives you a "Sure, Jan" look.

Coifárë: I hope it wasn't too strange for you that Gueiris and I know each other. It seemed to put you a little out of sorts.

Stillmarch: It was just unexpected. That's all. It was a stressfull evening

Coifárë: To be sure.

Coifárë: I'm glad we got to give Evenor a night on the town. He seems nice.

Coifárë: says after a moment.

Stillmarch: He needs more friends

Coifárë: That was my impression.

Coifárë: Has he really not left his family's holdings before?

Stillmarch: No. he was very ill and hardly met anyone - that I met him at all was more chance than anything, and only because of my family's standing that he was allowed to correspond with me after that.

Coifárë: Oh, the poor man.

Coifárë: Well, he's really only missed a few seasons, and I'm sure he can make up for lost time.

Stillmarch: I believe he intends to.

Stillmarch: I've tried to encourage some moderation but...

Stillmarch: looks back towards the party

Coifárë: I'm sure the three of us can keep him out of the worst trouble.

Stillmarch: Then I believe we had best get back to work.

Nik: ---------------

Nik: (I guess this is probably a few hours later? where should we be?)

Narrator: (This is for drunk!Nik?)

Nik: (yeah)

Narrator: (Okay, double-checking. We could still be at the house party type shindig we were at, or have moved on to some other entertainment if we want to change venues)

Nik: (we can be at the opera singers' after party, that works for me 🙂

Narrator: (Okay, what're you thinking Nik's up to, and how drunk is he? 😉 )

Nik: (well, I don't think he knows how to pace himself at all so probably quite drunk. As to what he's doing, if it's someone's house he's probably trying to look through their books 😉

Coifárë: will approach Nik as he's looking through their hosts' bookshelf.

Coifárë: Anything interesting?

Nik: Oh, well, there's a few intereshing... intersting... volumes of poetry...

Nik: pulls out one of them and leafs through it

Coifárë: Oh? What sort of poetry?

Coifárë: will look over his shoulder.

Nik: 's classic Vanilorran stuff... you know. outdoorsy, nature, blah blah.

Coifárë: Not your cup of tea?

Nik: well... it just always made me sad

Nik: says a bit wistfully

Nik: there's nothing wrong with it really

Coifárë: Why sad?

Nik: b'cause... I was stuck inside.

Coifárë: Ah, right, of course. My apologies. That must have been difficult.

Nik: 'sokay. nothing to aplologise for.

Nik: it was for my own good

Coifárë: A thing can be for our own good and still be unpleasant.

Coifárë: Much as I've found there are plenty of things that may not be the best for us, but are eminently pleasant at the time.

Nik: oh... yes, those...

Nik: tries to take a drink from his glass but realizes it's empty

Coifárë: What're you drinking?

Nik: considers that question

Nik: It is... pink?

Coifárë: chuckles.

Coifárë: Care for a refill?

Nik: yes please!

Coifárë: I'll be right back.

Coifárë: takes Nik's cup and will go get him some more...wine, presumably?

Coifárë: returns shortly and offers Nik his cup back.

Nik: (yeah I assume it's some kind of rose wine or whatever 😉

Coifárë: I hope you're having a good time, at least, poetry notwithstanding.

Nik: nods

Nik: It's not what I thought it'd be like... but it's fun

Coifárë: Oh? What were you imagining?

Nik: I think I thought everything'd be more... organized. like people would all know what to do except me. but mostly they don't, so they just follow what other people are doing, or what the host says...

Coifárë: I think a good portion of an event like this is not needing to know what you're doing, so that you can do whatever you feel like.

Coifárë: gives Nik an encouraging smile.

Nik: smiles back

Nik: yeah it's good...

Coifárë: So...what do you want to do?

Nik: (sec, phone, sorry)

Narrator: (kk)

Nik: (back temporarily? I might get summoned again, but Steve is talking right now 😉

Narrator: (heh, okay)

Nik: ponders that question seriously

Nik: I want to see naked people.

Nik: says after a moment's consideration

Coifárë: cannot contain a laugh, but tries to convey they're not laughing at Nik specifically.

Coifárë: I applaud your honesty. Anyone in particular?

Nik: well it's just! I've seen ... statues and things. but it's not the same.

Nik: shakes his head

Nik: I don't think so... it's probably not polite to ask?

Nik: (now phone again, sorry)

Coifárë: Well, I'd say that rather depends upon the person and the situation.

Narrator: (kk)

Nik: well... maybe if you were very in love with the person, you could ask?

Nik: ponders

Coifárë: That is...one instance, yes.

Nik: In romance novels, anyway... either that or they accidentally stumble into someone's dressing chamber to hide and there's a dramatic misunderstanding, you know that sort of thing?

Coifárë: You're a romance novel fan?

Nik: oh, yes! although I think not enough for SOME people...

Nik: says mysteriously

Coifárë: Whatever do you mean by that, I wonder?

Nik: well! I was having tea with Hersir Feirseinn ... Feigrnstin... her. and her sister, who is quite outspoken! said that I couldn't possibly be a fan if I hadn't read At Last The Night...

Coifárë: Oh, you really should, though, if you get a chance. It's quite good. I could lend you a copy if you like.

Nik: grins

Coifárë: Not that not having read it should be held against you, of course.

Nik: oh, you think it's good?

Coifárë: It's delightful. There's a...longing to the prose that's practically infectious.

Nik: smiles more

Nik: well I'm sure you have excellent taste!

Coifárë: You're sweet to say so.

Coifárë: Speaking of tastes, you said you didn't have a specific interest regarding your previously stated desire. Do you have a general one? Men, women, otherwise, none of the above, etc.?

Nik: UMmmhmhmm.... I don't really think I have a preference? At least, I don't know of one 😮

Coifárë: smiles slyly.

Nik: But I know what men look like :p obviously :p

Coifárë: So you'd prefer to broaden your horizons a bit, then?

Nik: nods enthusiastically enough to slightly unbalance himself and need to lean against the bookshelf for support.

Narrator: cowill reach out to help steady him.v

Coifárë: will reach out to help steady him.

Narrator: (Huh, wonder why the original stayed even though the tupper did it's thing)

Nik: thanks...

Coifárë: Are you all right?

Nik: just... a little wobbly

Nik: 's fine!

Coifárë: You should take care to pace yourself.

Coifárë: will continue to support Nik for the moment.

Stillmarch: will drift over, coming ut of a conversation with some other partygoer

Nik: mmhmm... pacing.

Stillmarch: Everything alright?

Nik: 's very important

Nik: you can't have your lead couple get together in the first chapter. unless they do and then there's a big misunderstanding so they break up and then get back together at the end...

Coifárë: Someone might have had a little much to drink a little too fast, but I think we've got it under control.

Coifárë: (to Nik) Ah, you are an aficionado. (to Lamont) We were discussing romance novels earlier.

Stillmarch: Ahh.

Nik: or maybe they used to be together before the story started... but then there was an Obstacle to their love and ...

Coifárë: studiously avoids looking at Lamont for a moment.

Nik: oh Lamont! I mean Stillmarch! hello!

Nik: smiles happily and waves

Stillmarch: also studiously abvoids looking at them >.>

Stillmarch: Having a good time then?

Nik: Mmhmm!

Stillmarch: How's that wine?

Nik: but Coifárë said we could see naked people. well. maybe not exactly said that? I think?

Nik: furrows his brow adorably

Nik: it was implied

Stillmarch: Mmmm maybe not tonight

Coifárë: laughs again.

Stillmarch: I think you'd want to remember.

Stillmarch: says dryly

Stillmarch: here, trade me.

Stillmarch: offers Nik his glass

Nik: will trade

Coifárë: There is that. It would be a shame to forget.

Stillmarch: confiscates wine for now

Stillmarch: drink up and you can have the wine back

Nik: will sip the new drink

Stillmarch: (It's water.)

Nik: hrm. it's a bit watered down.

Stillmarch: yes, I know, how terrible

Coifárë: It's important to make sure you're drinking plenty of water alongside the rest. Trust me, you'll thank Stillmarch tomorrow.

Nik: uh huh

Nik: thank you Stillmarch :3

Stillmarch: You're welcome Evenor...

Stillmarch: smiles slightly

Coifárë: See? Perfectly under control.

Nik: you all take... slight sniffle such good care of me

Coifárë: Well, what are friends for?

Stillmarch: We just want you to have a good time

Coifárë: will give Nik a side-hug from where they were supporting him.

Stillmarch: ...and not regret it too much >.>

Nik: 'm not gonna regret it! I promise!

Stillmarch: Well then - drink your water.

Nik: does as he's told

Stillmarch: Very good.

Stillmarch: will trade him back

Nik: ooh 😄

Nik: why would I regret it tomorrow though?

Coifárë: Right. Do you know what a hangover is?

Stillmarch: winces slightly

Nik: like... hanging over something?

Coifárë: Not...exactly.

Stillmarch: it's when the effects of too much alcohol hangs over the next day..

Coifárë: nods to Lamont.

Nik: oooooh

Coifárë: Drinking water helps, hence...

Coifárë: points to the cup Lamont is holding.

Stillmarch: Let us know if you feel ill, also...

Coifárë: Otherwise you'd be in for a bad time when you wake up tomorrow. Headache, nausea, all that.

Nik: oh, I see....

Nik: that sounds bad

Coifárë: It's manageable. The price of a good time, on occasion.

Stillmarch: Something of a rite of passage, really

Coifárë: Though there's other things you can partake in that aren't so bad in that regard, of course.

Nik: like what?

Coifárë: And none of it is intrinsically necessary for a good time.

Coifárë: Various herbs and such. Might be best to stick with what you're drinking, though. Mixing can be unpredictable.

Nik: nods

Nik: I don't want things to be unprec... unpredictable.

Stillmarch: also nods

Nik: maybe I can take things easy tomorrow...

Coifárë: Did you have anything planned for tomorrow?

Nik: uhmm... not sure?

Stillmarch: A vigorous ride through the countryside followed by a private orchestral performance, perhaps?

Nik: laughs at that

Coifárë: chuckles.

Nik: I've never even been riding, I wouldn't know what to do.

Coifárë: Well, once you get started, instinct tends to take over. 😉

Stillmarch: looks too shocked to process the innuendo, really

Stillmarch: what never?

Nik: oh, that's a relief! If I do get invited to go riding I wouldn't want to make a mess of things.

Nik: shakes his head

Coifárë: manages not to laugh at that.

Stillmarch: catches up and gives them a look, then refocuses on Nik

Stillmarch: Well we will have to fix that

Nik: no... because of my health, all that... I think they thought the ... horse fur? or straw, or whatever? would make my breathing bad.

Coifárë: Would it be terribly impolite to ask when your mark manifested?

Nik: oh, a few months ago?

Nik: thinks back

Nik: yes I guess about three or four months ago now.

Coifárë: Oh, so recent. You haven't had the opportunity to try nearly anything.

Nik: it took some convincing my parents that I was well enough to come on this trip!

Stillmarch: I'm glad you did

Coifárë: Well, luckily for us you proved persuasive.

Nik: I think it was my father's doing really. He said I need to ... to get out in the world and see things, not just read books all the time.

Coifárë: I'm sure the season will afford you the opportunity to see all kinds of things.

Nik: I hope so! I've already seen some things, but there's so much more...

Nik: says, wideeyed

Coifárë: On that note, if you'll excuse me for a moment, gentlemen.

Coifárë: will take their leave to go talk to their host for a bit.

Stillmarch: nods to them

Stillmarch: Leid

Narrator: (not at all conspiring so that Nik can see a naked person, I'm sure >.> )

Coifárë: Your grace, my lord.

Nik: oh, uh, of course!

Nik: whispers to Lamont "did I offend them?"

Stillmarch: No, not at all. Inspired perhaps...

Nik: oooh, all right

Stillmarch: sighs quietly to himself hoping this isn't too far beyond what your father might have had in mind >.>

Nik: when you said 'fix that' did you mean we can go riding sometime?

Nik: asks hopefully/nervously

Stillmarch: I insist that we shall.

Nik: nods, smiling

Stillmarch: But not tomorrow.

Nik: no... well... that's probably wise

Nik: do you have an extra horse I can use? do I have to make friends with the horse first and feed it an apple? do you think I need to put my hair in a braid?

Stillmarch: smiles

Stillmarch: I'll find a horse, and you can certainly give it an apple.

Nik: seems pleased at that

Stillmarch: I'm not qualified to advise on your hair though, I'm afraid.

Nik: well... I don't think I would go very fast.

Nik: but maybe that's more up to the horse than to me

Nik: idly plays with his hair

Stillmarch: A bit of both, but we can take things slow

Nik: nods

Nik: it sounds exciting 😄

Stillmarch: Well, it will be a chance to see more of the countryside, at least

Nik: uh huh

Nik: I think ... I need to sit down for a little bit.

Nik: sounds a little woozy

Stillmarch: here

Stillmarch: will steer you over somewhere you can sit down

Nik: takes a seat on a divan

Nik: thanks...

Stillmarch: Do you need more water? Some fresh air perhaps?

Nik: ummm... maybe?

Stillmarch: well, let's just sit fir a moment first, and then maybe a spell out on the balcony.

Stillmarch: will sit with Nik

Nik: sprawls over a bit, resting his head on the arm of the couch.

Coifárë: will return with an entirely different drink than before.

Coifárë: Oh, are we feeling all right, gentlemen?

Nik: mm... a lil bit sleepy...

Coifárë: Ah, of course. I suppose it is a bit late at that. Perhaps it's time to be thinking about heading homeways?

Nik: tries to bestir himself and sit up again, but kind of flops over onto Lamont instead

Stillmarch: What do you think, Nik, should I send for the carriage? Or do you want to see if some air might refresh you?

Stillmarch: oh...

Nik: mmfine.... yeah.

Stillmarch: pet's his arm

Nik: is basically half-passed out at this point

Stillmarch: well I suppose that's fair..

Coifárë: smiles at the two of them.

Coifárë: I can leave you two be, of course. I'd hate to intrude. 😉

Stillmarch: -_-

Coifárë: gives Lamont a look that is the soul of innocence.

Stillmarch: If it's not too much trouble, can you help me rouse him enough to take some air? And then I shoudl call for the carriage, I think

Coifárë: takes pity and nods. They'll move over to gently jostle Nik's shoulder.

Nik: hmmff.

Coifárë: (quietly) Lord Evenor? Would you care for some air?

Nik: uh huh...

Stillmarch: Up you get....

Stillmarch: will try and help him up, taking him by the arm

Coifárë: Okay, why don't we try sitting up, and, here, you can lean on us...

Nik: leans on you both - fortunately he's not very heavy and easily manipulated ;)

Coifárë: will help get Nik out to a balcony for some air.

Nik: rouses a bit in the cooler air

Stillmarch: is that a bit better?

Nik: oh... sorry

Coifárë: Nothing to apologize for.

Coifárë: How are you feeling?

Nik: everything's spinny...

Coifárë: That should pass, one way or another.

Stillmarch: yes, you can just lean on us, or the railing

Nik: that's good... this is good.

Nik: pats your shoulders clumsily

Coifárë: Maybe next time we take our time with the drinks, hmm?

Coifárë: Lets you enjoy more of the evening. Also remember it.

Stillmarch: he's not going to remember your advice, either

Nik: giggles at that

Stillmarch: Evenor, do you want to go home?

Nik: but.. I didn't see naked people 🥺

Stillmarch: pats your shoulder

Stillmarch: there will be other nights

Coifárë: Evenor, I promise you, we will make sure you get the opportunity.

Nik: okay... 'f you shay sho.

Nik: you promised. 'm not gonna forget.

Nik: says, probably going to forget

Coifárë: Oh, I seriously doubt that, but I'll remember.

Coifárë: (to Lamont) Should we send for a carriage, then?

Stillmarch: yes, I'll arrange it if you can take care of him for a moment

Coifárë: I think we'll manage. 🙂

Nik: can lean alternately against Coifárë and the balcony pillars

Coifárë: can probably support him fine. They're maybe not quite so elduar thin as Nik.

Nik: it's funny... Lamont fell asleep on me an' then I fell asleep on him. an' you. 's okay though.

Coifárë: Perfectly fine, and significantly less insulting in this context.

Nik: did you know he smells nice? he smells nice.

Nik: you smell nice too, I mean...

Coifárë: You're very sweet to say so.

Nik: I don't wanna be rude

Coifárë: laughs pleasantly.

Coifárë: I think you'll find I have a higher tolerance for such things than most, but you're far from being rude.

Coifárë: Perhaps under other circumstances I would elaborate, but I think you're in no condition for such.

Coifárë: Still, you're doing just fine. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself.

Nik: oh yes

Nik: it's all so .... so...

Nik: goes (more) pale and launches himself forward to hurl over the balcony

Coifárë: makes sure to hold his hair back and rubs his shoulders comfortingly.

Nik: ugh...

Coifárë: Happens to the best of us, I'm afraid.

Coifárë: Just...ride it out. We'll get you some more water before you head out.

Nik: uh huh...

Coifárë: glances over the balcony to make sure he didn't hit any passersby.

Guieris: finally escapes from conversations he wish he wasn't having

Guieris: Gah... I didn't think he would ever let me get away...

Guieris: I guess I missed quite a bit

Coifárë: Just feeling a bit under the weather, or under the table perhaps.

Coifárë: I don't suppose you could fetch some water for our friend here, could you?

Guieris: Yeah, I can wave some down.

Guieris: does so

Guieris: What were the chances THE Lord Maranue was here... and he heard about the incident...

Coifárë: Oh gods!

Coifárë: How did he end up...?

Coifárë: shakes their head.

Coifárë: How much trouble are you in?

Coifárë: (to Nik) Take small sips.

Nik: does as he's told

Coifárë: will use prestidigitation to clean Nik up as necessary.

Guieris: It's not as bad as it could have been... I was just stuck listening to him advise me on when one should use their more physical interventions and when one should be more diplomatic.

Coifárë: Well, the other party to your intervention didn't seem particularly upset with its physical nature.

Guieris: Did you talk to her?

Coifárë: I went to one of her lectures yesterday.

Guieris: I hope it went better than her more public events

Guieris: How is Stillmarch holding up?

Guieris: You're gonna be fine Evenor.

Nik: I feel ... a little better...

Nik: says faintly

Coifárë: He seems to be doing a bit better. He went to go get a carriage to take Evenor home. Presumably himself as well.

Coifárë: (to Nik) That's good. I'm sure Stillmarch will be back soon.

Guieris: I feel like quite the ass for being cornered like that and ignoring everyone.

Stillmarch: will step out onto the balcony

Stillmarch: Oh, there you are Kyrnon

Coifárë: It's not a society party, so I don't think anyone will be too perturbed. I'm still flabbergasted that Duke Maranue is here.

Stillmarch: I'm afraid I've just arranged to take Evenor home...

Stillmarch: Oh that was him, hmm.

Coifárë: (to Nik) Are you feeling well enough to walk down to the carriage?

Nik: I think so...

Coifárë: (to Lamont) Yes, bit of a bad stomach, but I think we're okay now.

Coifárë: Shall we, then?

Coifárë: will continue to help support Nik as they make their way through the party and down to the street.

Guieris: helps clear the path

Nik: wanders a bit but can be steered in the right direction

Stillmarch: will also help support Nik

Stillmarch: I think I can probably handle him from here....

]Stillmarch: Thank you, both, for coming out tonight

Coifárë: And you as well. It was nice to spend time with the both of you.

Guieris: Thank you for inviting us. Are you certain you can manage? Glad to help if I can.

Stillmarch: I've wrangled bigger drunks >.>

Stillmarch: you may recall >.>

Coifárë: laughs.

Guieris: nods

Coifárë: Have a good rest of your evening.

Coifárë: As a small consolation...

Coifárë: will lean over to give Nik a kiss on the cheek.

Coifárë: Be good, boys. Good night!

Guieris: Yes take care!

Nik: smiles adorably and a bit woozily

Nik: gnight!

Coifárë: heads back into the party.

Guieris: does so as well

Stillmarch: will take Nik home, then
