This entry has been very poorly edited. I plan on going back and going over it a bit more later.

History:

Even in the oldest of stories the Proudfoot and the Ghostwise always existed, living closely but superately with eachother. Some elven lore claim they were once one people, but to the halflings there has been two peoples since creation. The Ghostwise have always been more serious, more militaristic, more mature. The Proudfoot have been social, gregarious and never seem to lose their youthful enthusiasm. Since their history is kept in an oral tradition their oldest lore is more parable and allegory than hard fact. The Ghostwise live in the Ghostwood for as long as even the Elves can Fathom, but unlike the Elf Wood they did not tame their home. It is still a wild and dangerous place. Ghostwinse do not live in the forest, they live as part of it. In more recent history the Proudfoot inhabited a great plane of Elven territory. Unconcerned of who actually owned the land, they farmed it, traded through it, and raised livestock. It was a good life. They had no enemies on their border, they had good land to farm and plenty of space. At the same time the Elves had more land then they could control. In a controversial decision, the Elven council gave the land to the proudfoot and charged them with protecting it.

Personality:

Ghostwise are serious and dedicated. They can be quite fierce despite their size and are used to danger. Personal freedom is very important to them and if an adult Ghostwise is unhappy with an Elder they simply move on to a new tribe within the Ghostwood. Proudfoot are a delight to be around. They live in large families and many are semi-nomadic. They can be a bit mischevious though and don’t always take things as seriously as they should. Proudfoot seldom seem to completely grow up. A part of them remains a kid forever.

Relations:

Ghostwise keep mainly to themselves and the Proudfoot. They fight viciously with the Goblins, but recently have formed some friendship with the Kenku and the Xeph. Proudfoot would like to be friends with everyone. Occasionally Orc or Goblin raiding parties have made it onto their lands, so they aren’t fond of them. Their largest trading partner is the Elves. They tend to trade food and basic items for more complex and luxury items.

Halfling Lands:

The Ghostwood is a vast dark forest. The southern parts are far more a jungle than woods. It is filled with monsters, dinosaurs, venomous plants and even a few naturally occurring undead. The Ghostwise defend it zealously, but truth be told, the Ghostwood can defend itself. The Proudfoot Plains are a vast plane of rolling hills and good farm land. During the spring it can have flooding but generally it has quite a long growing season. It is the only country on the continent that does not border an openly hostile territory.
